Water splitting is a promising technology for sustainable conversion of hydrogen energy. The rational design of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) bifunctional electrocatalysts with superior activity and stability in the same electrolyte is the key to promoting their large‐scale applications. Herein, an ultralow Ru (1.08 wt%) transition metal phosphide on nickel foam (Ru–MnFeP/NF) derived from Prussian blue analogue, that effectively drivies both the OER and the HER in 1 m KOH, is reported. To reach 20 mA cm?2 for OER and 10 mA cm?2 for HER, the Ru–MnFeP/NF electrode only requires overpotentials of 191 and 35 mV, respectively. Such high electrocatalytic activity exceeds most transition metal phosphides for the OER and the HER, and even reaches Pt‐like HER electrocatalytic levels. Accordingly, it significantly accelerates full water splitting at 10 mA cm?2 with 1.470 V, which outperforms that of the integrated RuO2 and Pt/C couple electrode (1.560 V). In addition, the extremely long operational stability (50 h) and the successful demonstration of a solar‐to‐hydrogen generation system through full water splitting provide more flexibility for large‐scale applications of Ru–MnFeP/NF catalysts.  相似文献

Scalable and robust electrocatalysts are required for the implementation of water splitting technologies as a globally applicable means of producing affordable renewable hydrogen. It is demonstrated that iron‐only electrode materials prove to be active for catalyzing both proton reduction and water oxidation in alkaline electrolyte solution with superior activity to that of previously established bi‐functional catalysts containing less abundant elements. The reported bi‐functionality of the iron electrodes is reversible upon switching of the applied bias through electrochemical interconversion of catalytic species at the electrode surface. Cycling of the applied bias results in in‐situ electrochemical regeneration of the catalytic surfaces and thereby extends the catalyst stability and lifetime of the water electrolyzer. Full water splitting at a current density of I = 10 mA cm?2 is achieved at a bias of ≈2 V, which is stable over at least 3 d (72 one hour switching cycles). Thus, potential‐switching is established as a possible strategy of stabilizing electrode materials against degradation in symmetrical water splitting systems.  相似文献

By employing in situ reduction of metal precursor and metal‐assisted carbon etching process, this study achieves a series of ultrafine transition metal‐based nanoparticles (Ni–Fe, Ni–Mo) embedded in N‐doped carbon, which are found efficient catalysts for electrolytic water splitting. The as‐prepared hybrid materials demonstrate outstanding catalytic activities as non‐noble metal electrodes rendered by the synergistic effect of bimetal elements and N‐dopants, the improved electrical conductivity, and hydrophilism. Ni/Mo2C@N‐doped porous carbon (NiMo‐polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)) and NiFe@N‐doped carbon (NiFe‐PVP) produce low overpotentials of 130 and 297 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm?2 as catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction, respectively. In addition, these binder‐free electrodes show long‐term stability. Overall water splitting is also demonstrated based on the couple of NiMo‐PVP||NiFe‐PVP catalyzer. This represents a simple and effective synthesis method toward a new type of nanometal–carbon hybrid electrodes.  相似文献

Herein, a facile, one‐step hydrothermal route to synthesize novel all‐carbon‐based composites composed of B‐doped graphene quantum dots anchored on a graphene hydrogel (GH‐BGQD) is demonstrated. The obtained GH‐BGQD material has a unique 3D architecture with high porosity and large specific surface area, exhibiting abundant catalytic active sites of B‐GQDs as well as enhanced electrolyte mass transport and ion diffusion. Therefore, the prepared GH‐BGQD composites exhibit a superior trifunctional electrocatalytic activity toward the oxygen reduction reaction, oxygen evolution reaction, and hydrogen evolution reaction with excellent long‐term stability and durability comparable to those of commercial Pt/C and Ir/C catalysts. A flexible solid‐state Zn–air battery using a GH‐BGQD air electrode achieves an open‐circuit voltage of 1.40 V, a stable discharge voltage of 1.23 V for 100 h, a specific capacity of 687 mAh g?1, and a peak power density of 112 mW cm?2. Also, a water electrolysis cell using GH‐BGQD electrodes delivers a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at cell voltage of 1.61 V, with remarkable stability during 70 h of operation. Finally, the trifunctional GH‐BGQD catalyst is employed for water electrolysis cell powered by the prepared Zn–air batteries, providing a new strategy for the carbon‐based multifunctional electrocatalysts for electrochemical energy devices.  相似文献

Large‐scale industrial application of solar‐driven water splitting has called for the development of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts that deliver high catalytic activity and stability. Here it is shown that an efficient OER catalytic substrate can be developed by roll‐to‐roll fabrication of electrodeposited Ni‐Fe foils, followed by anodization. An amorphous oxyhydroxide layer directly formed on Ni‐Fe foils exhibits high catalytic activity toward water oxidation in 1 m KOH solution, which requires an overpotential of 0.251 V to reach current density of 10 mA cm–2. The developed catalytic electrode shows the best OER activity among catalysts with film structure. The catalyst also shows prolonged stability at vigorous gas evolution condition for 36 h. To demonstrate the monolithic photoassisted water splitting device, an amorphous silicon solar cell is fabricated on Ni‐Fe catalytic substrate, resulting in lowering OER overpotential under light illumination. This monolithic device is the first demonstration that the OER catalytic substrates and the solar cells are integrated and can be easily applied for industrial scale solar‐driven water electrolysis.  相似文献

In this work, a simple lignin‐based laser lithography technique is developed and used to fabricate on‐chip microsupercapacitors (MSCs) using 3D graphene electrodes. Specifically, lignin films are transformed directly into 3D laser‐scribed graphene (LSG) electrodes by a simple one‐step CO2 laser irradiation. This step is followed by a water lift‐off process to remove unexposed lignin, resulting in 3D graphene with the designed electrode patterns. The resulting LSG electrodes are hierarchically porous, electrically conductive (conductivity is up to 66.2 S cm?1), and have a high specific surface area (338.3 m2 g?1). These characteristics mean that such electrodes can be used directly as MSC electrodes without the need for binders and current collectors. The MSCs fabricated using lignin laser lithography exhibit good electrochemical performances, namely, high areal capacitance (25.1 mF cm?2), high volumetric energy density (≈1 mWh cm?3), and high volumetric power density (≈2 W cm?3). The versatility of lignin laser lithography opens up the opportunity in applications such as on‐chip microsupercapacitors, sensors, and flexible electronics at large‐scale production.  相似文献

Controlling active sites of metal‐free catalysts is an important strategy to enhance activity of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Many attempts have been made to develop metal‐free catalysts, but the lack of understanding of active‐sites at the atomic‐level has slowed the design of highly active and stable metal‐free catalysts. A sequential two‐step strategy to dope sulfur into carbon nanotube–graphene nanolobes is developed. This bidoping strategy introduces stable sulfur–carbon active‐sites. Fluorescence emission of the sulfur K‐edge by X‐ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (XANES) and scanning transmission electron microscopy electron energy loss spectroscopy (STEM‐EELS) mapping and spectra confirm that increasing the incorporation of heterocyclic sulfur into the carbon ring of CNTs not only enhances OER activity with an overpotential of 350 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm?2, but also retains 100% of stability after 75 h. The bidoped sulfur carbon nanotube–graphene nanolobes behave like the state‐of‐the‐art catalysts for OER but outperform those systems in terms of turnover frequency (TOF) which is two orders of magnitude greater than (20% Ir/C) at 400 mV overpotential with very high mass activity 1000 mA cm?2 at 570 mV. Moreover, the sulfur bidoping strategy shows high catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Stable bifunctional (ORR and OER) catalysts are low cost, and light‐weight bidoped sulfur carbon nanotubes are potential candidates for next‐generation metal‐free regenerative fuel cells.  相似文献

Poor quality and insufficient productivity are two main obstacles for the practical application of graphene in electrochemical energy storage. Here, high‐quality crumpled graphene microflower (GmF) for high‐performance electrodes is designed. The GmF possesses four advantages simultaneously: highly crystallized defect‐free graphene layers, low stacking degree, sub‐millimeter continuous surface, and large productivity with low cost. When utilized as carbon host for sulfur cathode, the GmF‐sulfur hybrid delivers decent areal capacities of 5.2 mAh cm?2 at 0.1 C and 3.8 mAh cm?2 at 0.5 C. When utilized as cathode of Al‐ion battery, the GmF affords a high capacity of 100 mAh g?1 with 100% capacity retention after 5000 cycles and excellent rate capability from 0.1 to 20 A g?1. This facile and large‐scale producible GmF represents a meaningful high‐quality graphene powder for practical energy storage technology. Meanwhile, this unique high‐quality graphene design provides an effective route to improve electrochemical properties of graphene‐based electrodes.  相似文献

In this work, a methodology is demonstrated to engineer gas diffusion electrodes for nonprecious metal catalysts. Highly active transition metal phosphides are prepared on carbon‐based gas diffusion electrodes with low catalyst loadings by modifying the O/C ratio at the surface of the electrode. These nonprecious metal catalysts yield extraordinary performance as measured by low overpotentials (51 mV at ?10 mA cm?2), unprecedented mass activities (>800 A g?1 at 100 mV overpotential), high turnover frequencies (6.96 H2 s?1 at 100 mV overpotential), and high durability for a precious metal‐free catalyst in acidic media. It is found that a high O/C ratio induces a more hydrophilic surface directly impacting the morphology of the CoP catalyst. The improved hydrophilicity, stemming from introduced oxyl groups on the carbon electrode, creates an electrode surface that yields a well‐distributed growth of cobalt electrodeposits and thus a well‐dispersed catalyst layer with high surface area upon phosphidation. This report demonstrates the high‐performance achievable by CoP at low loadings which facilitates further cost reduction, an important part of enabling the large‐scale commercialization of non‐platinum group metal catalysts. The fabrication strategies described herein offer a pathway to lower catalyst loading while achieving high efficiency and promising stability on a 3D electrode.  相似文献

The integration of surface metal catalysts with semiconductor absorbers to produce photocatalytic devices is an attractive method for achieving high‐efficiency solar‐induced water splitting. However, once combined with a photoanode, detailed discussions of the light‐induced processes on metal/semiconductor junction remain largely inadequate. Here, by employing in situ X‐ray scattering/diffraction and absorption spectroscopy, the generation of a photoinduced adaptive structure is discovered at the interfacial metal–semiconductor (M–S) junction between a state‐of‐the‐art porous silicon wire and nickel electrocatalyst, where oxygen evolution occurs under illumination. The adaptive layer in M–S junction through the light‐induced activation can enhance the voltage by 247 mV (to reach a photocurrent density of 10 mA cm?2) with regard to the fresh photoanode, and increase the photocurrent density by six times at the potential of 1.23 V versus reversible reference electrode (RHE). This photoinduced adaptive layer offers a new perspective regarding the catalytic behavior of catalysts, especially for the photocatalytic water splitting of the system, and acting as a key aspect in the development of highly efficient photoelectrodes.  相似文献

Exploring highly‐efficient and low‐cost electrodes for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction (HER and OER) is of primary importance to economical water splitting. Herein, a series of novel and robust bifunctional boride‐based electrodes are successfully fabricated using a versatile Et2NHBH3‐involved electroless plating (EP) approach via deposition of nonprecious boride‐based catalysts on various substrates. Owing to the unique binder‐free porous nodule structure induced by the hydrogen release EP reaction, most of the nonprecious boride‐based electrodes are highly efficient for overall water splitting. As a distinctive example, the Co‐B/Ni electrode can afford 10 mA cm?2 at overpotentials of only 70 mV for HER and 140 mV for OER, and can also survive at large current density of 1000 mA cm?2 for over 20 h without performance degradation in 1.0 m KOH. Several boride‐based two‐electrode electrolyzers can achieve 10 mA cm?2 at low voltages of around 1.4 V. Moreover, the facile EP approach is economically viable for flexible and large size electrode production.  相似文献

A flexible air electrode (FAE) with both high oxygen electrocatalytic activity and excellent flexibility is the key to the performance of various flexible devices, such as Zn–air batteries. A facile two‐step method, mild acid oxidation followed by air calcination that directly activates commercial carbon cloth (CC) to generate uniform nanoporous and super hydrophilic surface structures with optimized oxygen‐rich functional groups and an enhanced surface area, is presented here. Impressively, this two‐step activated CC (CC‐AC) exhibits superior oxygen electrocatalytic activity and durability, outperforming the oxygen‐doped carbon materials reported to date. Especially, CC‐AC delivers an oxygen evolution reaction (OER) overpotential of 360 mV at 10 mA cm?2 in 1 m KOH, which is among the best performances of metal‐free OER electrocatalysts. The practical application of CC‐AC is presented via its use as an FAE in a flexible rechargeable Zn–air battery. The bendable battery achieves a high open circuit voltage of 1.37 V, a remarkable peak power density of 52.3 mW cm?3 at 77.5 mA cm?3, good cycling performance with a small charge–discharge voltage gap of 0.98 V and high flexibility. This study provides a new approach to the design and construction of high‐performance self‐supported metal‐free electrodes.  相似文献

A challenge still remains to develop high‐performance and cost‐effective air electrode for Li‐O2 batteries with high capacity, enhanced rate capability and long cycle life (100 times or above) despite recent advances in this field. In this work, a new design of binder‐free air electrode composed of three‐dimensional (3D) graphene (G) and flower‐like δ‐MnO2 (3D‐G‐MnO2) has been proposed. In this design, graphene and δ‐MnO2 grow directly on the skeleton of Ni foam that inherits the interconnected 3D scaffold of Ni foam. Li‐O2 batteries with 3D‐G‐MnO2 electrode can yield a high discharge capacity of 3660 mAh g?1 at 0.083 mA cm?2. The battery can sustain 132 cycles at a capacity of 492 mAh g?1 (1000 mAh gcarbon ?1) with low overpotentials under a high current density of 0.333 mA cm?2. A high average energy density of 1350 Wh Kg?1 is maintained over 110 cycles at this high current density. The excellent catalytic activity of 3D‐G‐MnO2 makes it an attractive air electrode for high‐performance Li‐O2 batteries.  相似文献

Facile design of low‐cost and highly active catalysts from earth‐abundant elements is favorable for the industrial application of water splitting. Here, a simple strategy to synthesize an ultrathin molybdenum disulfide/nitrogen‐doped reduced graphene oxide (MoS2/N‐RGO‐180) nanocomposite with the enlarged interlayer spacing of 9.5 Å by a one‐step hydrothermal method is reported. The synergistic effects between the layered MoS2 nanosheets and N‐doped RGO films contribute to the high activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). MoS2/N‐RGO‐180 exhibits the excellent catalytic activity with a low onset potential of ?5 mV versus reversible hydrogen elelctrode (RHE), a small Tafel slope of 41.3 mV dec?1, a high exchange current density of 7.4 × 10?4 A cm?2, and good stability over 5 000 cycles under acidic conditions. The HER performance of MoS2/N‐RGO‐180 nanocomposite is superior to the most reported MoS2‐based catalysts, especially its onset potential and exchange current density. In this work, a novel and simple method to the preparation of low‐cost MoS2‐based electrocatalysts with the extraordinary HER performance is presented.  相似文献

The controllable synthesis of single‐crystallized iron‐cobalt carbonate hydroxide nanosheets array on 3D conductive Ni foam (FCCH/NF) as a monolithic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) bifunctional electrocatalyst for full water splitting is described. The results demonstrate that the incorporation of Fe can effectively tune the morphology, composition, electronic structure, and electrochemical active surface area of the electrocatalysts, thus greatly enhancing the intrinsic electrocatalytic activity. The optimal electrocatalyst (F0.25C1CH/NF) can deliver 10 and 1000 mA cm?2 at very small overpotentials of 77 and 256 mV for HER and 228 and 308 mV for OER in 1.0 m KOH without significant interference from gas evolution. The F0.25C1CH‐based two‐electrode alkaline water electrolyzer only requires cell voltages of 1.45 and 1.52 V to achieve current densities of 10 and 500 mA cm?2. The results demonstrate that such fascinating electrocatalytic activity can be ascribed to the increase in the catalytic active surface area, facilitated electron and mass transport properties, and the synergistic interactions because of the incorporation of Fe.  相似文献

The development of efficient and abundant water oxidation catalysts is essential for the large‐scale storage of renewable energy in the form of hydrogen fuel via electrolytic water splitting, but still remains challenging. Based upon eutectic reaction and dealloying inheritance effect, herein, novel Ni‐Fe‐O‐based composite with a unique mesoporous nanowire network structure is designed and synthesized. The composite exhibits exceptionally low overpotential (10 mA cm?2 at an overpotential of 244 mV), low Tafel slope (39 mV dec?1), and superior long‐term stability (remains 10 mA cm?2 for over 60 h without degradation) toward oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in 1 m KOH. Moreover, an alkaline water electrolyzer is constructed with the Ni‐Fe‐O composite as catalyst for both anode and cathode. This electrolyzer displays superior electrolysis performance (affording 10 mA cm?2 at 1.64 V) and long‐term durability. The remarkable features of the catalyst lie in its unique mesoporous nanowire network architecture and the synergistic effect of the metal core and the active metal oxide, giving rise to the strikingly enhanced active surface area, accelerated electron/ion transport, and further promoted reaction kinetics of OER.  相似文献

Effectively active oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts are highly desired for water splitting. Herein, the design and fabrication of nanometer‐sized Fe‐modulated CoOOH nanoparticles by a novel conversion tailoring strategy is reported for the first time and these nanoparticles are assembled on graphene matrix to construct 2D nanohybrids (Fe? CoOOH/G) with ultrasmall particles and finely modulated local electronic structure of Co cations. The Fe components are capable of tailoring and converting the micrometer‐sized sheets into nanometer‐sized particles, indicative of ultrasensitive Fe‐triggered behavior. The as‐made Fe? CoOOH/G features highly exposed edge active sites, well‐defined porous structure, and finely modulated electron structure, together with effectively interconnected conducting networks endowed by graphene. Density functional theory calculations have revealed that the Fe dopants in the Fe? CoOOH nanoparticles have an enhanced adsorption capability toward the oxygenated intermediates involved in OER process, thus facilitating the whole catalytic reactions. Benefiting from these integrated characteristics, the as‐made Fe? CoOOH/G nanohybrids as an oxygen evolution electrocatalyst can deliver a low overpotential of 330 mV at 10 mA cm?2 and excellent electrochemical durability in alkaline medium. This strategy provides an effective, durable, and nonprecious‐metal electrocatalyst for water splitting.  相似文献

It is of great significance to develop highly efficient and superior stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts for upcoming electrochemical conversion technologies and clean energy systems. Here, an assembled 3D electrode is synthesized by a one‐step solvothermal process using such an original OER electrocatalyst. During the solvothermal process, Ni ions released from Ni foam in acidic solution and Fe ions added exogenously act as metal centers and coordinate with terephthalic acid (TPA) organic molecules by robust coordinate bonds, and finally, NiFe‐based metal–organic framework (MOF) nanosheets in situ grown on Ni foam, i.e., MIL‐53(FeNi)/NF, are prepared. This binder‐free 3D electrode shows superior OER activity with high current density (50 mA cm?2) at an overpotential of 233 mV, a Tafel slope of 31.3 mV dec?1, and excellent stability in alkaline aqueous solution (1 m KOH). It is discovered that introduction of Fe into MIL‐53 structure increases electrochemically‐active areas as well as reaction sites, accelerated electron transport capability, and modulated electronic structure to enhance catalytic performance. Besides, first principles calculations show that MIL‐53(FeNi) is more favorable for foreign atoms' adsorption and has increased 3d orbital electron density boosting intrinsic activity. This work elucidates a promising electrode for electrocatalysts and enriches direct application of MOF materials.  相似文献

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a bottleneck process for water splitting and finding highly efficient, durable, low‐cost, and earth‐abundant electrocatalysts is still a major challenge. Here a sulfur‐treated Fe‐based metal–organic‐framework is reported as a promising electrocatalyst for the OER, which shows a low overpotential of 218 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm?2 and exhibits a very low Tafel slope of 36.2 mV dec?1 at room temperature. It can work on high current densities of 500 and 1000 mA cm?2 at low overpotentials of 298 and 330 mV, respectively, by keeping 97% of its initial activity after 100 h. Notably, it can achieve 1000 mA cm?2 at 296 mV with a good stability at 50 °C, fully fitting the requirements for large‐scale industrial water electrolysis. The high catalytic performance can be attributed to the thermocatalytic processes of H+ capture by –SO3 groups from *OH or *OOH species, which cascades to the electrocatalytic pathway and then significantly reduces the OER overpotentials.  相似文献

High‐performance, breathable, conductive, and flexible polypyrrole (PPy) coated paper electrodes are prepared by an interfacial polymerization method using air‐laid paper as a substrate. Owing to the synergistic effect of superior electrical conductivity, high wettability, and the porous architecture, the prepared electrode not only shows an outstanding specific capacitance and rate abilities (3100 and 2579 mF cm?2 at 1 and 20 mA cm?2 for a PPy coated paper electrode), but also exhibits excellent flexibility, wearability, and breathability. Based on these superior features, an all‐solid‐state supercapacitor assembled with the PPy coated paper electrodes shows an outstanding energy density of 62.4 µW h cm?2, remarkable air permeability and excellent flexibility to sustain various deformations. Furthermore, large‐scale fabrication of conductive flexible paper electrode can be easily achieved through this method. Therefore, this work offers a new vision for flexible energy storage.  相似文献
