Hard carbons (HCs) are promising anodes of sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) due to their high capacity, abundance, and low cost. However, the sodium storage mechanism of HCs remains unclear with no consensus in the literature. Here, based on the correlation between the microstructure and Na storage behavior of HCs synthesized over a wide pyrolysis temperature range of 600–2500 °C, an extended “adsorption–insertion” sodium storage mechanism is proposed. The microstructure of HCs can be divided into three types with different sodium storage mechanisms. The highly disordered carbon, with d002 (above 0.40 nm) large enough for sodium ions to freely transfer in, has a “pseudo‐adsorption” sodium storage mechanism, contributing to sloping capacity above 0.1 V, together with other conventional “defects” (pores, edges, heteroatoms, etc.). The pseudo‐graphitic carbon (d‐spacing in 0.36–0.40 nm) contributes to the low‐potential (<0.1 V) plateau capacity through “interlayer insertion” mechanism, with a theoretical capacity of 279 mAh g?1 for NaC8 formation. The graphite‐like carbon with d002 below 0.36 nm is inaccessible for sodium ion insertion. The extended “adsorption–insertion” model can accurately explain the dependence of the sodium storage behavior of HCs with different microstructures on the pyrolysis temperature and provides new insight into the design of HC anodes for SIBs.  相似文献

Hard carbon is the most promising anode material for sodium‐ion batteries and potassium‐ion batteries owing to its high stability, widespread availability, low‐cost, and excellent performance. Understanding the carrier‐ion storage mechanism is a prerequisite for developing high‐performance electrode materials; however, the underlying ion storage mechanism in hard carbon has been a topic of debate because of its complex structure. Herein, it is demonstrated that the Li+‐, Na+‐, and K+‐ion storage mechanisms in hard carbon are based on the adsorption of ions on the surface of active sites (e.g., defects, edges, and residual heteroatoms) in the sloping voltage region, followed by intercalation into the graphitic layers in the low‐voltage plateau region. At a low current density of 3 mA g–1, the graphitic layers of hard carbon are unlocked to permit Li+‐ion intercalation, resulting in a plateau region in the lithium‐ion batteries. To gain insights into the ion storage mechanism, experimental observations including various ex situ techniques, a constant‐current constant‐voltage method, and diffusivity measurements are correlated with the theoretical estimation of changes in carbon structures and insertion voltages during ion insertion obtained using the density functional theory.  相似文献

Sodium ion batteries (NIBs) have become attractive promising alternatives to lithium ion batteries in a broad field of future energy storage applications. The development of high‐performance anode materials has become an essential factor and a great challenge toward satisfying the requirements for NIBs, advancement. This work is the first report on GeS2 nanocomposites uniformly distributed on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as promising anode materials for NIBs prepared via a facile hydrothermal synthesis and a unique carbo‐thermal annealing. The results show that the GeS2/rGO hybrid anode yields a high reversible specific capacity of 805 mA h g?1 beyond the theoretical capacity, an excellent rate capability of 616 mA h g?1 at 5 A g?1, and a cycle retention of 89.4% after 100 cycles. A combined ex situ characterization study reveals that the electrochemically driven amorphization plays a key role in achieving efficient sodium storage by accommodating excess sodium ions in the electrode materials. Understanding the sequential conversion‐alloying reaction mechanism for GeS2/rGO hybrid anodes provides a new approach for developing high‐performance energy storage applications.  相似文献

The pursuit of more efficient carbon‐based anodes for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) prepared from facile and economical methods is a very important endeavor. Based on the crystallinity difference within carbon materials, herein, a low‐temperature selective burning method is developed for preparing oxygen and nitrogen codoped holey graphene aerogel as additive‐free anode for SIBs. By selective burning of a mixture of graphene and low‐crystallinity carbon at 450 °C in air, an elastic porous graphene monolith with abundant holes on graphene sheets and optimized crystallinity is obtained. These structural characteristics lead to an additive‐free electrode with fast charge (ions and electrons) transfer and more abundant Na+ storage active sites. Moreover, the heteroatom oxygen/nitrogen doping favors large interlayer distance for rapid Na+ insertion/extraction and provides more active sites for high capacitive contribution. The optimized sample exhibits superior sodium‐ion storage capability, i.e., high specific capacity (446 mAh g?1 at 0.1 A g?1), ultrahigh rate capability (189 mAh g?1 at 10 A g?1), and long cycle life (81.0% capacity retention after 2000 cycles at 5 A g?1). This facile and economic strategy might be extended to fabricating other superior carbon‐based energy storage materials.  相似文献

Sodium‐ion batteries (NIBs) have attracted more and more attention as economic alternatives for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). Sodium super ionic conductor (NASICON) structure materials, known for high conductivity and chemical diffusion coefficient of Na+ (≈10?14 cm2 s?1), are promising electrode materials for NIBs. However, NASICON structure materials often suffer from low electrical conductivity (<10?4 S cm?1), which hinders their electrochemical performance. Here high performance sodium storage performance in Na3V2(PO4)3 (NVP) is realized by optimizing nanostructure and rational surface engineering. A N, B codoped carbon coated three‐dimensional (3D) flower‐like Na3V2(PO4)3 composite (NVP@C‐BN) is designed to enable fast ions/electrons transport, high‐surface controlled energy storage, long‐term structural integrity, and high‐rate cycling. The conductive 3D interconnected porous structure of NVP@C‐BN greatly releases mechanical stress from Na+ extraction/insertion. In addition, extrinsic defects and active sites introduced by the codoping heteroatoms (N, B) both enhance Na+ and e? diffusion. The NVP@C‐BN displays excellent electrochemical performance as the cathode, delivering reversible capacity of 70% theoretical capacity at 100 C after 2000 cycles. When used as anode, the NVP@C‐BN also shows super long cycle life (38 mA h g?1 at 20 C after 5000 cycles). The design provides a novel approach to open up possibilities for designing high‐power NIBs.  相似文献

The current Na+ storage performance of carbon‐based materials is still hindered by the sluggish Na+ ion transfer kinetics and low capacity. Graphene and its derivatives have been widely investigated as electrode materials in energy storage and conversion systems. However, as anode materials for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs), the severe π–π restacking of graphene sheets usually results in compact structure with a small interlayer distance and a long ion transfer distance, thus leading to low capacity and poor rate capability. Herein, partially reduced holey graphene oxide is prepared by simple H2O2 treatment and subsequent low temperature reduction of graphene oxide, leading to large interlayer distance (0.434 nm), fast ion transport, and larger Na+ storage space. The partially remaining oxygenous groups can also contribute to the capacity by redox reaction. As anode material for SIBs, the optimized electrode delivers high reversible capacity, high rate capability (365 and 131 mAh g?1 at 0.1 and 10 A g?1, respectively), and good cycling performance (163 mAh g?1 after 3000 cycles at a current density of 2 A g?1), which is among the best reported performances for carbon‐based SIB anodes.  相似文献

Due to their high conductivity and low cost, carbon materials have attracted great attention in the field of energy storage, especially as anode material for sodium ion batteries. Current research focuses on introducing external defects through heteroatom engineering to improve the sodium storage performance of carbon materials. However, there is still a lack of systematic investigation of the effects of intrinsic defects prevalent in carbon materials on sodium storage performance. Herein, template‐assisted method was used to design carbon materials with different degrees of intrinsic defects and explore their sodium storage properties. The experimental results show that the intrinsic defects in the carbon materials facilitates the adsorption behavior of Na+ during the surface induction capacitance process. Among them, the best carbon anode material exhibits high reversible capacity (221 mAh g?1 at 1 A g?1) and excellent rate performance. In addition, the density functional theory calculations also show that the existence of intrinsic defects can optimize the distribution of electron density, thereby increasing the Na‐adsorption capacity. This work makes an important contribution to understanding the role of intrinsic defects in the sodium storage performance of carbon materials.  相似文献

Sodium storage in both solid–liquid and solid–solid interfaces is expected to extend the horizon of sodium‐ion batteries, leading to a new strategy for developing high‐performance energy‐storage materials. Here, a novel composite aerogel with porous Li4Ti5O12 (PLTO) nanofibers confined in a highly conductive 3D‐interconnected graphene framework (G‐PLTO) is designed and fabricated for Na storage. A high capacity of 195 mA h g?1 at 0.2 C and super‐long cycle life up to 12 000 cycles are attained. Electrochemical analysis shows that the intercalation‐based and interfacial Na storage behaviors take effect simultaneously in the G‐PLTO composite aerogel. An integrated Na storage mechanism is proposed. This study ascribes the excellent performance to the unique structure, which not only offers short pathways for Na+ diffusion and conductive networks for electron transport, but also guarantees plenty of PLTO–electrolyte and PLTO–graphene interfacial sites for Na+ adsorption.  相似文献

Trogtalite CoSe2 nanobuds encapsulated into boron and nitrogen codoped graphene (BCN) nanotubes (CoSe2@BCN‐750) are synthesized via a concurrent thermal decomposition and selenization processes. The CoSe2@BCN‐750 nanotubes deliver an excellent storage capacity of 580 mA h g?1 at current density of 100 mA g?1 at 100th cycle, as the anode of a sodium ion battery. The CoSe2@BCN‐750 nanotubes exhibit a significant rate capability (100–2000 mA g?1 current density) and high stability (almost 98% storage retention after 4000 cycles at large current density of 8000 mA g?1). The reasons for these excellent storage properties are illuminated by theoretical calculations of the relevant models, and various possible Na+ ion storage sites are identified through first‐principles calculations. These results demonstrate that the insertion of heteroatoms, B–C, N–C as well as CoSe2, into BCN tubes, enables the observed excellent adsorption energy of Na+ ions in high energy storage devices, which supports the experimental results.  相似文献

Hard carbon has long been considered the leading candidate for anode materials of Na‐ion batteries. Intensive research efforts have been carried out in the search of suitable carbon structure for an improved storage capability. Herein, an anode based on multishelled hollow carbon nanospheres, which are able to deliver an outstanding electrochemical performance with an extraordinary reversible capacity of 360 mAh g?1 at 30 mA g?1, is designed. An interesting dependence of the electrochemical properties on the multishelled structural features is identified: with an increase in the shell number of the model carbon materials, the sloping capacity in the charge/discharge curve remains almost unchanged while the plateau capacity continuously increases, suggesting an adsorption‐filling Na‐storage mechanism for the multishelled hollow hard carbon materials. The findings not only provide new perspective in the structural design of high‐performance anode materials, but also shed light on the complicated mechanism behind Na‐storage by hard carbon.  相似文献

A great concern exists about the lifetime, cost, low-temperature performance, and safety of Li-ion batteries. Na-ion batteries (NIB) are an alternative to the Li-ion batteries due to the wide availability of sodium, its low cost, and nontoxicity. Here, we examined the Na and Na+ adsorption on nanosheets of carbon (graphene), AlN, BN, and SiC to explore their potential use as an anode in NIBs. The interaction of atomic Na was found to play the main role in producing different nanosheet cell voltages. Unlike the graphene and SiC nanosheets, the lone pairs on the surface of the AlN and BN nanosheets hinder the Na adsorption and significantly increase the cell voltage. The order of magnitude of the nanosheet cell voltage as an anode in NIBs is as follows: AlN (1.49 V)?>?BN (1.46 V) >?>?C (0.69 V)?>?SiC (0.61 V). The AlN and BN nanosheets may be appropriate compounds for NIBs and their cell voltages are comparable with carbon nanotubes.  相似文献

Porous structure design is generally considered to be a reliable strategy to boost ion transport and provide active sites for disordered carbon anodes of Na‐ion batteries (NIBs). Herein, a type of waste cork‐derived hard carbon material (CC) is reported for efficient Na storage via tuning the pore species. Benefiting from the natural holey texture of this renewable precursor, CCs deliver a novel hierarchical porous structure. The effective skeletal density test combined with small angle X‐ray scattering analysis (SAXS) is used to obtain the closed pore information. Based on a detailed correlation analysis between pore information and the electrochemical performance of CCs, improving pyrolysis temperature to reduce open pores (related to initial capacity loss) and increase closed pores (related to plateau capacity) endows an optimal CC with a high specific capacity of ≈360 mAh g?1 in half‐cells and a high energy density of 230 Wh kg?1 in full‐cells with a capacity retention of 71% after 2000 cycles at 2C rate. The bioinspired high temperature pore‐closing strategy and the new insights about the pore structure–performance relationship provide a rational guide for designing porous carbon anode of NIBs with tailored pore species and high Na storage capacity.  相似文献

Sodium‐based energy storage technologies are potential candidates for large‐scale grid applications owing to the earth abundance and low cost of sodium resources. Transition metal phosphides, e.g. MoP, are promising anode materials for sodium‐ion storage, while their detailed reaction mechanisms remain largely unexplored. Herein, the sodium‐ion storage mechanism of hexagonal MoP is systematically investigated through experimental characterizations, density functional theory calculations, and kinetics analysis. Briefly, it is found that the naturally covered surface amorphous molybdenum oxides layers on the MoP grains undergo a faradaic redox reaction during sodiation and desodiation, while the inner crystalline MoP remains unchanged. Remarkably, the MoP anode exhibits a pseudocapacitive‐dominated behavior, enabling the high‐rate sodium storage performance. By coupling the pseudocapacitive anode with a high‐rate‐battery‐type Na3V2O2(PO4)2F@rGO cathode, a novel sodium‐ion full cell delivers a high energy density of 157 Wh kg?1 at 97 W kg?1 and even 52 Wh kg?1 at 9316 W kg?1. These findings present the deep understanding of the sodium‐ion storage mechanism in hexagonal MoP and offer a potential route for the design of high‐rate sodium‐ion storage materials and devices.  相似文献

Tuning heterointerfaces between hybrid phases is a very promising strategy for designing advanced energy storage materials. Herein, a low‐cost, high‐yield, and scalable two‐step approach is reported to prepare a new type of hybrid material containing MoS2/graphene nanosheets prepared from ball‐milling and exfoliation of commercial bulky MoS2 and graphite. When tested as an anode material for a sodium‐ion battery, the as‐prepared MoS2/graphene nanosheets exhibit remarkably high rate capability (284 mA h g?1 at 20 A g?1 (≈30C) and 201 mA h g?1 at 50 A g?1 (≈75C)) and excellent cycling stability (capacity retention of 95% after 250 cycles at 0.3 A g?1). Detailed experimental measurements and density functional theory calculation reveal that the functional groups in 2D MoS2/graphene heterostructures can be well tuned. The impressive rate capacity of the as‐prepared MoS2/graphene hybrids should be attributed to the heterostructures with a low degree of defects and residual oxygen containing groups in graphene, which subsequently improve the electronic conductivity of graphene and decrease the Na+ diffusion barrier at the MoS2/graphene interfaces in comparison with the acid treated one.  相似文献

Sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) are considered to be promising energy storage devices for large‐scale grid storage application due to the vast earth‐abundance and low cost of sodium‐containing precursors. Designing and fabricating a highly efficient anode is one of the keys to improve the electrochemical performance of SIBs. Recently, fluoride‐based materials are found to show an exceptional anode function with high theoretical specific capacity, based on open‐framework structure enabling Na insertion and also exhibiting improved safety. However, fluoride‐based materials suffer from sluggish kinetics and poor capacity retention essentially due to low electric conductivity. Here, an efficient mixed‐conducting network offering fast pathways is proposed to address these issues. This network relies on titanium fluoride?carbon (TiF3?C) core/sheath nanofibers that are prepared via electrospinning. Such highly interconnected electrodes exhibit an enhanced and faster sodium storage performance. Carbon sheath nanofibers are key to an efficient ion‐ and electron‐conducting network that enable Na+/e? transfer to reach the nanosized TiF3. In addition, in‐situ‐converted Ti and NaF particles embedded in the carbon matrix allow high reversible interfacial storage. As a result, the TiF3?C core/sheath electrode exhibits a high capacity of 161 mAh g?1 at a high current density of 1000 mA g?1 over 2000 cycles.  相似文献

Hard carbon is a standard anode material for Na‐ion batteries. However, its low crystallinity and diverse microstructures make obtaining a full understanding of the sodium storage mechanism challenging. Here, the results of a systematic ex situ small and wide angle X‐ray scattering study of a series of nanostructured hard carbons, which reveal clear evidence of sodium storage in the graphene–graphene interlayers and nanopores, are presented. Particularly, an emergence of a broad peak around q ≈ 2.0–2.1 Å?1 in the low voltage region is suggested to be an indicator that sodium is densely confined in the nanopores. Thus, classical X‐ray scattering techniques are demonstrated to be effective in elucidating the overall reaction scheme of Na insertion into hard carbon.  相似文献

Hard carbon is one of the most promising anode materials for sodium‐ion batteries, but the low Coulombic efficiency is still a key barrier. In this paper, a series of nanostructured hard carbon materials with controlled architectures is synthesized. Using a combination of in situ X‐ray diffraction mapping, ex situ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), electron paramagnetic resonance, electrochemical techniques, and simulations, an “adsorption–intercalation” mechanism is established for Na ion storage. During the initial stages of Na insertion, Na ions adsorb on the defect sites of hard carbon with a wide adsorption energy distribution, producing a sloping voltage profile. In the second stage, Na ions intercalate into graphitic layers with suitable spacing to form NaC x compounds similar to the Li ion intercalation process in graphite, producing a flat low voltage plateau. The cation intercalation with a flat voltage plateau should be enhanced and the sloping region should be avoided. Guided by this knowledge, nonporous hard carbon material has been developed which has achieved high reversible capacity and Coulombic efficiency to fulfill practical application.  相似文献

Disordered carbons have captured extensive interest as anode materials for Na‐ion batteries (NIBs) due to the abundant resources, competitive specific capacity, and low cost. Here, a facile strategy of pre‐oxidation is successfully adopted to tune the microstructure of carbon anode to facilitate sodium storage. Pitch is selected as the low‐cost and high carbon yield precursor. An easy pre‐oxidation treatment in air can enable pitch to realize an effective structural conversion from ordered to disordered at further carbonization processes. Compared with the carbonized pristine pitch, the carbonized pre‐oxidation pitch increases the carbon yield from 54 to 67%, the sodium storage capacity from 94.0 to 300.6 mAh g?1, and the initial Coulombic efficiency from 64.2 to 88.6%. Experiment results reveal that the introduction of oxygen based functional groups is the key to achieve the highly disordered structure, not only ensuring the cross‐linkage during low‐temperature pre‐oxidation process but also suppressing the carbon structure from melting and rearranging in the high‐temperature carbonization process. Most importantly, this facile pre‐oxidation strategy can also be extended to other carbon precursors to facilitate the low‐cost and high‐performance disordered carbon anodes for NIBs and beyond.  相似文献

Thanks to low costs and the abundance of the resources, sodium‐ion (SIBs) and potassium‐ion batteries (PIBs) have emerged as leading candidates for next‐generation energy storage devices. So far, only few materials can serve as the host for both Na+ and K+ ions. Herein, a cubic phase CuSe with crystal‐pillar‐like morphology (CPL‐CuSe) assembled by the nanosheets are synthesized and its dual functionality in SIBs and PIBs is comprehensively studied. The electrochemical measurements demonstrate that CPL‐CuSe enables fast Na+ and K+ storage as well as the sufficiently long duration. Specifically, the anode delivers a specific capacity of 295 mA h g?1 at current density of 10 A g?1 in SIBs, while 280 mA h g?1 at 5 A g?1 in PIBs, as well as the high capacity retention of nearly 100% over 1200 cycles and 340 cycles, respectively. Remarkably, CPL‐CuSe exhibits a high initial coulombic efficiency of 91.0% (SIBs) and 92.4% (PIBs), superior to most existing selenide anodes. A combination of in situ X‐ray diffraction and ex situ transmission electron microscopy tests fundamentally reveal the structural transition and phase evolution of CuSe, which shows a reversible conversion reaction for both cells, while the intermediate products are different due to the sluggish K+ insertion reaction.  相似文献

Inspired by the great success of graphite in lithium‐ion batteries, anode materials that undergo an intercalation mechanism are considered to provide stable and reversible electrochemical sodium‐ion storage for sodium‐ion battery (SIB) applications. Though MoS2 is a promising 2D material for SIBs, it suffers from deformation of its layered structure during repeated intercalation of Na+, resulting in undesirable electrochemical behaviors. In this study, vertically oriented MoS2 on nitrogenous reduced graphene oxide sheets (VO‐MoS2/N‐RGO) is presented with designed spatial geometries, including sheet density and height, which can deliver a remarkably high reversible capacity of 255 mA h g?1 at a current density of 0.2 A g?1 and 245 mA h g?1 at a current density of 1 A g?1, with a total fluctuation of 5.35% over 1300 cycles. These results are superior to those obtained with well‐developed hard carbon structures. Furthermore, a SIB full cell composed of the optimized VO‐MoS2/N‐RGO anode and a Na2V3(PO4)3 cathode reaches a specific capacity of 262 mA h g?1 (based on the anode mass) during 50 cycles, with an operated voltage range of 2.4 V, demonstrating the potentially rewarding SIB performance, which is useful for further battery development.  相似文献
