Aim. The purpose of this study was to determine the neuromuscular fatigue profiles during 100 s isometric (ISO), concentric (CON), and eccentric (ECC) activity.

Methods. Twelve subjects (age 25.1±3.7 years, mass 70.1±8.2 kg, mean±SD) performed ISO, CON and ECC maximal voluntary contractions and 100 s endurance trials on an isokinetic dynamometer. Raw EMG data were recorded throughout each trial from the rectus femoris of the right limb. Corresponding data for integrated electromyography (IEMG), percentile frequency shifts (MPFS) and peak torque output were divided into five 5 s epochs and subsequently normalised with the first epoch being the reference point, in order to assess changes over time.

Results. There were no significant differences between ECC, CON and ISO peak torque output (211±63 vs 169±41 vs 177±61 Nm; ECC, CON, ISO) and IEMG activity (280±143 vs 305±146 vs 287±143 mV; ECC, CON, ISO) during maximal contractions. Serial reductions in torque output were greatest in ISO in which torque output during the final epoch was 31±13% of initial values, similar to the final torque values in CON (58±15%), but significantly less than ECC (108.6±38.6%; P<0.001) values. In CON and ECC, IEMG was maintained (95±27% and 93±21%; CON and ECC), whereas IEMG for ISO decreased to 38±13% of initial values. The greatest reduction in MPFS occurred in CON (69±10%) compared to ISO (78±9%; P<0.05) and ECC (93±6%; P<0.001).

Conclusion. These data demonstrate distinct neuromuscular fatigue profiles for the different types of muscle contraction. Whereas eccentric activity was largely fatigue resistant, isometric and concentric contractions displayed different neuromuscular fatigue profiles.  相似文献

The aim of this investigation was to study the relationships among movement velocity, torque output and electromyographic (EMG) activity of the knee extensor muscles under eccentric and concentric loading. Fourteen male subjects performed maximal voluntary eccentric and concentric constant-velocity knee extensions at 45, 90, 180 and 360 degrees.s-1. Myoelectric signals were recorded, using surface electrodes, from the vastus medialis, vastus lateralis and rectus femoris muscles. For comparison, torque and full-wave rectified EMG signals were amplitude-averaged through the central half (30 degrees-70 degrees) of the range of motion. For each test velocity, eccentric torque was greater than concentric torque (range of mean differences: 20%-146%, P less than 0.05). In contrast, EMG activity for all muscles was lower under eccentric loading than velocity-matched concentric loading (7%-31%, P less than 0.05). Neither torque output nor EMG activity for the three muscles changed across eccentric test velocities (P greater than 0.05). While concentric torque increased with decreasing velocity, EMG activity for all muscles decreased with decreasing velocity (P less than 0.05). These data suggest that under certain high-tension loading conditions (especially during eccentric muscle actions), the neural drive to the agonist muscles was reduced, despite maximal voluntary effort. This may protect the musculoskeletal system from an injury that could result if the muscle was to become fully activated under these conditions.  相似文献

Many studies have reported strength gains in older adults following high-intensity resistance training. However, the muscle contraction types examined have been primarily isometric (static) or concentric (CONC; shortening). Less is known about how eccentric (ECC) strength in older adults responds to training or about the efficacy of ECC contractions as training stimuli in these subjects, even though muscle contractions of this type are performed in most training regimens and daily physical activities. In this study, 15 physically active, healthy older women [68 (5) years; mean (SD)] completed an 8-week resistance training program of two sessions per week. Training consisted of three sets of eight repetitions of CONC ankle plantar flexion (PF) and ECC dorsiflexion (DF), at greater than 80% of the initial peak torque, in a standing position only. Subjects were tested in standing and supine positions for: (1) strength over a range of 10° DF to 20° PF for both CONC and ECC; DF and PF (2) passive resistive torque of the plantar flexors at 6°/s; and (3) DF and PF rate of torque development. All strength testing and training was done at 30°/s. Significant increases (P < 0.01) were found for both CONC DF (↑30%) and ECC DF (↑17%) peak torque in the standing position. No significant changes occurred for DF strength as measured with the subjects in the supine position, PF strength in either position, passive resistive torque, or rate of torque development. In summary, strength gains occurred only in the dorsiflexors, which were trained using ECC contractions. Improvements in DF strength were specific to the position of training, which has implications for the transferability of strength gains to functional tasks such as maintaining gait. This study investigated biceps brachii oxygenation and myoelectrical activity during and following maximal eccentric exercise to better understand the repeated-bout effect. Ten men performed two bouts of eccentric exercise (ECC1, ECC2), consisting of 10 sets of 6 maximal lengthening contractions of the elbow flexors separated by 4 wk. Tissue oxygenation index minimum amplitude (TOI(min)), mean and maximum total hemoglobin volume by near-infrared spectroscopy, torque, and surface electromyography root mean square (EMG(RMS)) during exercise were compared between ECC1 and ECC2. Changes in maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) torque, range of motion, plasma creatine kinase activity, muscle soreness, TOI(min), and EMG(RMS) during sustained (10-s) and 30-repeated isometric contraction tasks at 30% (same absolute force) and 100% MVC (same relative force) for 4 days postexercise were compared between ECC1 and ECC2. No significant differences between ECC1 and ECC2 were evident for changes in torque, TOI(min), mean total hemoglobin volume, maximum total hemoglobin volume, and EMG(RMS) during exercise. Smaller (P < 0.05) changes and faster recovery of muscle damage markers were evident following ECC2 than ECC1. During 30% MVC tasks, TOI(min) did not change, but EMG(RMS) increased 1-4 days following ECC1 and ECC2. During 100% MVC tasks, EMG(RMS) did not change, but torque and TOI(min) decreased 1-4 days following ECC1 and ECC2. TOI(min) during 100% MVC tasks and EMG(RMS) during 30% MVC tasks recovered faster (P < 0.05) following ECC2 than ECC1. We conclude that the repeated-bout effect cannot be explained by altered muscle activation or metabolic/hemodynamic changes, and the faster recovery in muscle oxygenation and activation was mainly due to faster recovery of force.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the acute effects of maximal concentric vs. eccentric exercise on the isometric strength of the elbow flexor, as well as the biceps brachii muscle electromyographic (EMG) responses in resistance-trained (RT) vs. untrained (UT) men. Thirteen RT men (age: 24 ± 4 years; height: 180.2 ± 7.7 cm; body weight: 92.2 ± 16.9 kg) and twelve UT men (age: 23 ± 4 years; height: 179.2 ± 5.0 cm; body weight: 81.5 ± 8.6 kg) performed six sets of ten maximal concentric isokinetic (CON) or eccentric isokinetic (ECC) elbow flexion exercise in two separate visits. Before and after the exercise interventions, maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs) were performed for testing isometric strength. In addition, bipolar surface EMG signals were detected from the biceps brachii muscle during the strength testing. Both CON and ECC caused isometric strength to decrease, regardless of the training status. However, ECC caused greater isometric strength decline than CON did for the UT group (p = 0.006), but not for the RT group. Both EMG amplitude and mean frequency significantly decreased and increased, respectively, regardless of the training status and exercise intervention. Resistance-trained men are less susceptible to eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage, but this advantage is not likely linked to the chronic resistance training-induced neural adaptations.  相似文献

Nine men, 78-84 yr of age, participated in a dynamometer training program 2-3 times/wk, totaling 25 sessions, using voluntary maximal isometric, concentric, and eccentric right knee-extension actions (30 and 180 degrees/s). Measurements of muscle strength with a Kin-Com dynamometer and simultaneous electromyograms (EMG) were performed of both sides before and after the training period. Muscle biopsies were taken from the right vastus lateralis muscle. The total quadriceps cross-sectional area was measured with computerized tomography. Training led to an increase in maximal torque for concentric (10% at 30 degrees/s) and eccentric (13-19%) actions in the trained leg. The EMG activity increased at maximal eccentric activities. The total cross-sectional quadriceps area of the trained leg increased by 3%, but no changes were recorded in muscle fiber areas in these subjects, who already had large mean fiber areas (5.15 microns 2 x 10(3)). The fatigue index measured from 50 consecutive concentric contractions at 180 degrees/s decreased and the citrate synthase activity increased in all but one subject. The results demonstrate that increased neural activation accompanies an increase in muscle strength at least during eccentric action in already rather active elderly men and that muscle endurance may also be improved with training.  相似文献

The influence of an eccentric training on torque/angular velocity relationships and coactivation level during maximal voluntary isokinetic elbow flexion was examined. Seventeen subjects divided into two groups (Eccentric Group EG, n = 9 Control Group CG, n = 8) performed on an isokinetic dynamometer, before and after training, maximal isokinetic elbow flexions at eight angular velocities (from - 120 degrees s(-1) under eccentric conditions to 240 degrees s(-1) under concentric conditions), and held maximal and submaximal isometric actions. Under all conditions, the myoelectric activities (EMG) of the biceps and the triceps brachii muscles were recorded and quantified as the RMS value. Eccentric training of the EG consisted of 5x6 eccentric muscle actions at 100 and 120% of one maximal repetition (IRM) for 21 sessions and lasted 7 weeks. In the EG after training, torque was significantly increased at all angular velocities tested (ranging from 11.4% at 30 degrees (s-1) to 45.5% at - 120 degrees s(-1)) (p < 0.05). These changes were accompanied by an increase in the RMS activities of the BB muscle under eccentric conditions (from - 120 to - 30 degrees (s-1)) and at the highest concentric angular velocities (180 and 24 degrees s(-1)) (p < 0.05). The RMS activity of the TB muscle was not affected by the angular velocity in either group for all action modes. The influence of eccentric training on the torque gains under eccentric conditions and for the highest velocities was attributed essentially to neural adaptations.  相似文献

Maximal torque during the concentric phase of a movement has been shown to be enhanced by prior eccentric muscle actions, a movement strategy referred to as the stretch-shortening cycle. Although the mechanical basis for this enhancement is well established, the neural component is not. We hypothesized that brief high-frequency bursts of spindle afferent discharge during the eccentric phase of the stretch-shortening cycle could be one mechanism for facilitating the volitional drive. To test this hypothesis, three sets of experiments were done. In the first (N=15), we demonstrated that both the peak and mean EMG of the soleus (S) and lateral gastrocnemius (LG) muscles were considerably greater during a reciprocal hopping (RHOP) task than for maximum isometric contractions (MIVCs). In the second experiment, we tested whether the dynamic nature of the RHOP or the eccentric phase of the RHOP contributed to the EMG potentiation. Peak and mean EMG produced with a concentric hop (CHOP), in which the lengthening phase of the hop was eliminated, were compared with that produced with the RHOP and MIVCs conditions (N=7). The RHOP produced greater peak EMG than either the CHOP or the MIVCs while the mean EMG for both hopping conditions was considerably more than the MIVCs. In the final experiment, we attempted to mimic the brief high-frequency burst of spindle afferent activity during the lengthening phase of the stretch-shortening cycle in the absence of muscle length changes. High-frequency (100 Hz) afferent stimulation (HFS) was delivered during MIVCs. At rest, the HFS produced negligible EMG activity but when superimposed over MIVCs produced a marked potentiation of the S EMG over values obtained during MIVCs alone. Evidence that HFS synchronizes the EMG associated with volitional activation is also provided. We conclude that a substantial but brief facilitation and possible synchronization of the neural drive is provided by the spindle afferents during the eccentric phase of the stretch-shortening cycle.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the strength, electromyographic (EMG), and mechanomyographic (MMG) responses after workouts designed to elicit fatigue and muscle damage vs. only fatigue. Thirteen men (mean ± SD age = 23.7 ± 2.2 years) performed 6 sets of 10 maximal concentric isokinetic (CONexercise) or eccentric isokinetic (ECCexercise) muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors on 2 separate days. Before (PRE) and after (POST) these workouts, peak torque (PT), surface EMG, and MMG signals were measured during maximal concentric isokinetic, eccentric isokinetic, and isometric muscle actions of the forearm flexors. The subjects also visited the laboratory for a control (CTL) visit with quiet resting between the PRE and POST measurements, rather than performing the CONexercise or ECCexercise. The results showed that there were significant 26 and 25% decreases in PT after the CONexercise and ECCexercise, respectively, and these decreases were statistically equivalent for the concentric, eccentric, and isometric muscle actions. There were also 19 and 23% reductions in normalized EMG amplitude after the CONexercise and ECCexercise, respectively, but no changes in EMG mean frequency (MNF), MMG amplitude, or MMG MNF. These findings demonstrated a neural component(s) to the strength decrement after CONexercise and ECCexercise. It is possible that after these 2 types of exercise, activation of free nerve endings that are sensitive to muscle damage and pH changes resulted in inhibition of alpha motor neurons, causing decreased muscle activation and torque. These findings suggest that training programs designed to minimize strength loss during competition should consider the fact that at least some of this loss is because of neural factors.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the repeated bout effect depends on intraindividual variability during a second bout of eccentric exercise. Eleven healthy men performed 2 resistance training bouts consisting of maximal eccentric exercise (EE1 and EE2) using the knee extensor muscles. The interval between the exercise bouts was 2 weeks and consisted of 10 sets of 12 repetitions at 160° · s(-1). Maximal isokinetic concentric torque at 30° · s(-1) was measured before the bouts and 2 minutes and 24 hours thereafter. Muscle soreness score and creatine kinase activity were determined before and after exercise. Intraindividual variability in torque during each eccentric repetition was measured during exercise. Repeated bout effect manifested after EE2: Muscle soreness was less, the shift in optimal knee joint angle to a longer muscle length was less, and the decrease in isokinetic concentric torque 2 minutes after exercise was less for EE2 compared with that for EE1. During concentric (isokinetic) contraction, length-dependent changes in isokinetic torque (IT) occurred after both EE1 and EE2: The shorter the muscle length, the greater the change in IT. There was a significant relationship between the decrease in maximal isokinetic knee extension torque 24 hours after EE1 and intraindividual variability of EE1 (R2 = 0.71, p < 0.05), but this relationship was not significant for EE2 (R2 = 0.18). It seems that intraindividual variability during eccentric exercise protects against muscle fatigue and damage during the first exercise bout but not during a repeat bout. These findings may be useful to coaches who wish to improve muscle function in resistance training with less depression in muscle function and discomfort of their athletes, specifically, when muscle is most sensitive to muscle-damaging exercise.  相似文献

This study examines the age-related deficit in force of the ankle dorsiflexors during isometric (Iso), concentric (Con), and eccentric (Ecc) contractions. More specifically, the contribution of neural and muscular mechanisms to the loss of voluntary force was investigated in men and women. The torque produced by the dorsiflexors and the surface electromyogram (EMG) from the tibialis anterior and the soleus were recorded during maximal Iso contractions and during Con and Ecc contractions performed at constant angular velocities (5-100 degrees/s). Central activation was tested by the superimposed electrical stimulation method during maximal voluntary contraction and by computing the ratio between voluntary average EMG and compound muscle action potential (M wave) induced by electrical stimulation (average EMG/M wave). Contractile properties of the dorsiflexor muscles were investigated by recording the mechanical responses to single and paired maximal stimuli. The results showed that the age-related deficit in force (collapsed across genders and velocities) was greater for Iso (20.5%; P < 0.05) and Con (38.6%; P < 0.001) contractions compared with Ecc contractions (6.5%; P > 0.05). When the torque produced during Con and Ecc contractions was expressed relative to the maximal Iso torque, it was significantly reduced in Con contractions and increased in Ecc contractions with aging, with the latter effect being more pronounced for women. In both genders, voluntary activation was not significantly impaired in elderly adults and did not differ from young subjects. Similarly, coactivation was not changed with aging. In contrast, the mechanical responses to single and paired stimuli showed a general slowing of the muscle contractile kinetics with a slightly greater effect in women. It is concluded that the force deficit during Con and Iso contractions of the ankle dorsiflexors in advanced age cannot be explained by impaired voluntary activation or changes in coactivation. Instead, this age-related adaptation and the mechanisms that preserve force in Ecc contractions appeared to be located at the muscular level.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to establish test–retest reliability of isokinetic hip torque and prime mover electromyogram (EMG) through the three cardinal planes of motion. Thirteen healthy young adults participated in two experimental sessions, separated by approximately one week. During each session, isokinetic hip torque was evaluated on the Biodex Isokinetic Dynamometer at a velocity of 60 deg/s. Subjects performed three maximal-effort concentric and eccentric contractions, separately, for right and left hip abduction/adduction, flexion/extension, and internal/external rotation. Surface EMGs were sampled from the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, adductor, medial and lateral hamstring, and rectus femoris muscles during all contractions. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC – 2,1) and standard errors of measurement (SEM) were calculated for peak torque for each movement direction and contraction mode, while ICCs were only computed for the EMG data. Motions that demonstrated high torque reliability included concentric hip abduction (right and left), flexion (right and left), extension (right) and internal rotation (right and left), and eccentric hip abduction (left), adduction (left), flexion (right), and extension (right and left) (ICC range = 0.81–0.91). Motions with moderate torque reliability included concentric hip adduction (right), extension (left), internal rotation (left), and external rotation (right), and eccentric hip abduction and adduction (right), flexion (left), internal rotation (right and left), and external rotation (right and left) (ICC range = 0.49–0.79). The majority of the EMG sampled muscles (n = 12 and n = 11 for concentric and eccentric contractions, respectively) demonstrated high reliability (ICC = 0.81–0.95). Instances of low, or unacceptable, EMG reliability values occurred for the medial hamstring muscle of the left leg (both contraction modes) and the adductor muscle of the right leg during eccentric internal rotation. The major finding revealed high and moderate levels of between-day reliability of isokinetic hip peak torque and prime mover EMG. It is recommended that the day-to-day variability estimates concomitant with acceptable levels of reliability be considered when attempting to objectify intervention effects on hip muscle performance.  相似文献

This study quantified the interaction of electromyography (EMG) obtained from the vastus lateralis and metabolic energy cost of running (C(r); mL·[mass+load](-1)·meter(-1)), an index of running economy, during submaximal treadmill running. Experiments were conducted with and without load on the back on a motor-driven treadmill on the downhill, level and uphill slopes. The obtained EMG was full-wave rectified and integrated (iEMG). The iEMG was divided into eccentric (ECC) and concentric (CON) phases with a foot sensor and a knee-joint goniometer. The ratio of ECC to CON (ECC/CON ratio) was regarded as the muscle elastic capacity during running on each slope. The C(r) was determined as the ratio of the 2-min steady-state VO(2) to the running speed. We found a significant decrease in the C(r) when carrying the load at all slopes. The ECC/CON ratio was significantly higher in the load condition at the downhill and level slopes, but not at the uphill slope. A significant gradient difference was observed in the C(r) (downuphill). Thus, an alteration of Cr by the gradient and load was almost consistent with that of the ECC/CON ratio. The ECC/CON ratio, but not the rotative torque (T) functioning around the center of body mass, significantly correlated with C(r) (r=-0.41, p<0.05). These results indicated that the ECC/CON ratio, rather than T, contributed to one of the energy-saving mechanisms during running with load.  相似文献

Analysis of functional movements using surface electromyography (EMG) often involves recording both eccentric and concentric muscle activity during a stretch-shorten cycle (SSC). The techniques used for amplitude normalization are varied and are independent of the type of muscle activity involved. The purpose of this study was: (i) to determine the effect of 11 amplitude normalization techniques on the coefficient of variation (CV) during the eccentric and concentric phases of the SSC; and (ii) to establish the effect of the normalization techniques on the EMG signal under variable load and velocity. The EMG signal of the biceps brachii of eight normal subjects was recorded under four SSC conditions and three levels of isometric contraction. The 11 derived normalization values were total rms, mean rms and peak rms (100 ms time constant) for the isometric contractions and the mean rms and peak rms values of the ensemble values for each set of isotonic contractions. Normalization using maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVIC), irrespective of rms processing (total, mean or peak), demonstrated greater CV above the raw data for both muscle actions. Mean ensemble values and submaximal isometric recordings reduced the CV of concentric data. No amplitude normalization technique reduced the CV for eccentric data under loaded conditions. An ANOVA demonstrated significant (P < 0.01) main effects for load and velocity on concentric raw data and an interaction (P < 0.05) for raw eccentric data. No significant effects were demonstrated for changes in velocity when the data were normalized using mean rms values. The reduction of the CV should not be at the expense of true biological variance and current normalization techniques poorly serve the analysis of eccentric muscle activity during the SSC.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare four different methods of normalising electromyograms (EMGs) recorded during normal gait. Comparisons were made between the amplitude, intra-individual variability and inter-individual variability of EMGs. Surface EMGs were recorded from the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, vastus lateralis and vastus medialis of ten males and two females while they walked on a treadmill at a self-selected speed. EMGs from the same muscles were subsequently recorded during isometric maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs) and concentric, isokinetic MVCs that were performed between 0.52 and 7.85 rad·s−1 on a BIODEX dynamometer. EMGs were also recorded during eccentric, isokinetic MVCs between 0.52 and 2.62 rad·s−1. Gait EMGs were then normalised at 2% intervals of the gait cycle by expressing them as a percentage of the following reference values: the mean (mean dynamic method) and the peak (peak dynamic method) EMG from the intra-individual ensemble average; the EMG from an isometric MVC (isometric MVC method); and the EMG from an isokinetic MVC that occurred with the same muscle action, length and velocity of musculotendinous unit as the gait EMGs (isokinetic MVC method). The isokinetic MVC method produced significantly greater (P<0.05) intra-individual variability compared to the other methods when it was measured using the variance ratio. Inter-individual variability of gait EMGs, again measured using the variance ratio, was also greatest when they were normalised using the isokinetic MVC method. The pattern and amplitude of EMGs normalised using the isometric MVC method and the isokinetic MVC method were very similar (root mean square difference and absolute difference both less than 3%). It was concluded that the isokinetic MVC method should not be adopted by gait researchers or clinicians as it does not reduce intra- or inter-individual variability anymore than existing normalisation methods, nor does it provide a more representative measure of muscle activation during gait than the isometric MVC method.  相似文献

Electromyographic (EMG) amplitude and mechanical tension are directly related during isometric contraction. Maximal voluntary isometric contractions are typically elicited through two different procedures; resisting a load, which is eccentric in nature, and contracting against an immovable object, which is concentric in nature. A wealth of literature exists indicating that EMG amplitude during concentric contractions is greater than that of eccentric contractions of the same magnitude. However, the effects of different methods to elicit isometric contraction on EMG amplitude have yet to be investigated. The purpose of this study was to compare EMG amplitudes under different loading configurations designed to elicit isometric muscle contraction. Twenty healthy volunteers (10 males and 10 females, age = 23 ± 2 yrs, height = 1.7 ± 0.09 m, mass = 69.9 + 16.8 kg) performed a maximal voluntary plantarflexion effort for which the vertical ground reaction force (GRFv) sampled from a force plate and surface EMG of the soleus were recorded. Participants then performed isometric plantarflexion at 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% GRFvmax in a seated position, from a neutral ankle position, under two different counterbalanced isometric loading conditions (concentric and eccentric). For concentric loading conditions, the subject contracted against an immovable resistance to the specified %GRFv identified via visual and auditory feedback. For eccentric loading conditions, subjects contracted against an applied load placed on the distal anterior thigh that produced the specified %GRFv. This applied load had the tendency to force the ankle into dorsiflexion. Therefore, plantarflexion force, in an attempt to maintain the ankle in a neutral position, resisted lengthening of the plantarflexor musculature, thus representing eccentric loading during an isometric contraction. Mean EMG amplitude was compared across loading levels and types using a 2 (loading type: concentric, eccentric) × 4 (loading level: 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% GRFv) repeated-measures ANOVA. The main effect for loading level was significant (p = 0.007). However, the main effect for loading type, and the loading type × loading level interaction were non-significant (p > 0.05). The present findings provide evidence that isometric muscle contractions loaded in either concentric or eccentric manners elicit similar EMG amplitudes, and are therefore comparable in research settings.  相似文献

Neuromuscular adaptations of the plantar flexor muscles were assessed before and subsequent to short-term electromyostimulation (EMS) training. Eight subjects underwent 16 sessions of isometric EMS training over 4 wk. Surface electromyographic (EMG) activity and torque obtained under maximal voluntary and electrically evoked contractions were analyzed to distinguish neural adaptations from contractile changes. After training, plantar flexor voluntary torque significantly increased under isometric conditions at the training angle (+8.1%, P < 0.05) and at the two eccentric velocities considered (+10.8 and +13.1%, P < 0.05). Torque gains were accompanied by higher normalized soleus EMG activity and, in the case of eccentric contractions, also by higher gastrocnemii EMG (P < 0.05). There was an 11.9% significant increase in both plantar flexor maximal voluntary activation (P < 0.01) and postactivation potentiation (P < 0.05), whereas contractile properties did not change after training. In the absence of a change in the control group, it was concluded that an increase in neural activation likely mediates the voluntary torque gains observed after short-term EMS training.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to compare children and adults of both genders with respect to torque-velocity, electromyogram (EMG)-velocity and torque-EMG relationships during maximal voluntary knee extensor muscle actions. Four groups of ten subjects each were studied comprising 11-year-old girls and boys and female and male physical education students (22–35 years). Maximal voluntary eccentric (lengthening) and concentric (shortening) actions of the knee extensors were performed at the constant velocities of 45, 90 and 180° · s–1. Average values for torque and EMG activity, recorded by surface electrodes from the quadriceps muscle, were taken for the mid 40° of the 80° range of motion. The overall shapes of the torque- and EMG-velocity relationships were similar for all four groups, showing effects of velocity under concentric (torque decrease and EMG increase) but not under eccentric conditions. Eccentric torques were always greater than velocity-matched concentric ones, whereas the eccentric EMG values were lower than the concentric ones at corresponding velocities. Torque output per unit EMG activity was clearly higher for eccentric than for concentric conditions and the difference was of similar magnitude for all groups. Thus, the torque-EMG-velocity relationships would appear to have been largely independent of gender and to be fully developed at a prepubertal age.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the Kin-Com II dynamometer in the study of the stretch-shortening cycle (a concentric muscle action preceded by an eccentric muscle action). Measurements were made of plantar flexion at different angular velocities (120 degrees.s-1 and 240 degrees.s-1) with the knee at two different angles (0 degree and 90 degrees). Ten healthy women ranging in age from 22 to 41 years were studied. Torque values were recorded simultaneously with surface electromyograms (EMG): maximal voluntary concentric torque values were recorded and, after a short rest, the torque values of the concentric action which followed immediately after an eccentric action of the same velocity, both with maximal effort. Mean values were taken at different ankle positions and also averaged over different ranges. A concentric action preceded by an eccentric action generated a torque value on an average about 100% larger than a concentric action alone. The EMG activity was lower or unchanged. It was concluded that the present method could be useful in the study of the stretch-shortening cycle in plantar flexion and in the testing of the behaviour of the elastic components in people with disabilities in the lower limbs.  相似文献

The speed-torque relationship of the right knee extensor muscle group was investigated in eight untrained subjects (28 +/- 2 yr old). Torque was measured at a specific knee angle during isokinetic concentric or eccentric actions at nine angular velocities (0.17-3.66 rad/s) and during isometric actions. Activation was by "maximal" voluntary effort or by transcutaneous tetanic electrical stimulation that induced an isometric torque equal to 60% (STIM 1) or 45% (STIM 2) of the voluntary isometric value. Torque increased (P less than 0.05) to 1.4 times isometric as the speed of eccentric actions increased to 1.57 rad/s for STIM 1 and STIM 2. Thereafter, increases in eccentric speed did not further increase torque. Torque did not increase (P greater than 0.05) above isometric for voluntary eccentric actions. As the speed of concentric actions increased from 0.00 to 3.66 rad/s, torque decreased (P less than 0.05) more (P less than 0.05) for both STIM 1 and STIM 2 (two-thirds) than for voluntary activation (one-half). As a result of these responses, torque changed three times as much (P less than 0.05) across speeds of concentric and eccentric actions with artificial (3.4-fold) than voluntary (1.1-fold) activation. The results indicate that with artificial activation the normalized speed-torque relationship of the knee extensors in situ is remarkably similar to that of isolated muscle. The relationship for voluntary activation, in contrast, suggests that the ability of the central nervous system to activate the knee extensors during maximal efforts depends on the speed and type of muscle action performed.  相似文献
