The effects of salinity on the growth rate and survival of juvenile Littorina saxatilis gastropods reared in the laboratory from the young of progenic females collected in estuarine, intermediate, and marine habitats were studied. The optimum growth conditions of juveniles were dependent on the salinity regime in their original habitat. The progeny of females from the marine site showed maximum survival at a salinity of 23, the value corresponding to the normal salinity in their native habitat during the breeding period, while at 14, the growth of juveniles from this population was strongly suppressed. Juveniles originating from the estuarine habitat were able to maintain equally high growth rates at 23 and 14; however, at 14, they grew significantly faster than juveniles from the marine site. The progeny of females from the intermediate habitat showed intermediate growth rates at 14. Fluctuating salinity (23–8–23) had an adverse effect on the growth of juvenile Littorina, irrespective of the parental habitat. The differences in survival, size, and growth rates of the progeny of L. saxatilis in habitats with different salinity regimes are discussed in relation to their potential adaptive significance to life in estuaries. 相似文献

A Rhizobium strain nodulating cowpeas did not decline in abundance after it was added to sterile soils at pH 6.9 and 4.4, and the numbers fell slowly in nonsterile soils at pH 5.5 and 4.1. A strain of R. phaseoli grew when added to sterile soils at pH 6.7 and 6.9; it maintained large, stable populations in soils of pH 4.4, 5.5, and 6.0, but the numbers fell markedly and then reached a stable population size in sterile soils at pH 4.3 and 4.4. The abundance of R. phaseoli added to nonsterile soils with pH values of 4.3 to 6.7 decreased similarly with time regardless of soil acidity, and the final numbers were less than in the comparable sterile soils. The minimum pH values for the growth of strains of R. meliloti in liquid media ranged from 5.3 to 5.9. Two R. meliloti strains, which differed in acid tolerance for growth in culture, did not differ in numbers or decline when added to sterile soils at pH 4.8, 5.2, and 6.3. The population size of these two strains was reduced after they were introduced into nonsterile soils at pH 4.8, 5.4, and 6.4, and the number of survivors was related to the soil pH. The R. meliloti strain that was more acid sensitive in culture declined more readily in sterile soil at pH 4.6 than did the less sensitive strain, and only the former strain was eliminated from nonsterile soil at pH 4.8; however, the less sensitive strain also survived better in limed soil. The cell density of the two R. meliloti strains was increased in pH 6.4 soil in the presence of growing alfalfa. The decline and elimination of the tolerant, but not the sensitive, strain was delayed in soil at pH 4.6 by roots of growing alfalfa. 相似文献

The growth and survival of Acanthamoeba
castellanii in the presence of Gram-negative bacteria such as
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Serratia
marcescens, and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia varied with the
densities and species of bacteria. All species of bacteria suspended in a
buffered saline at densities of 105 to 106/ml supported
the growth and survival of 106/ml trophozoites of Acanthamoeba
castellanii in a buffered saline solution. At densities of bacteria to
amoebae of 100:1 or greater, growth and survival of A. castellanii
were suppressed, particularly by P. aeruginosa. In an enrichment
medium, the rapid growth of most co-inoculated bacteria inhibited the growth
and survival of the amoeba.

Salinity is one of the environmental factors that has a criticalinfluence on the germination of halophyte seeds and plant establishment.Salinity affects imbibition, germination and root elongation.However, the way in which NaCl exerts its influence on thesevital processes, whether it is through an osmotic effect ora specific ion toxicity, is still not resolved. Dimorphic seedsof the halophytesAtriplex prostrataandA. patulawere treatedwith various iso-osmotic solutions of NaCl and polyethyleneglycol (PEG). For each treatment, imbibition, germination rate,percent germination, germination recovery and nuclear area ofroot tip cells were compared. Higher concentrations of NaCl(-1.0 MPa) were more inhibitory to imbibition, germination andseedling root elongation than iso-osmotic PEG solutions. Allseeds recovered from a pre-treatment with -2.0 MPa NaCl andPEG solutions, except large seeds ofA. prostratawhich failedto germinate following transfer from -2.0 MPa NaCl. 为了解外来物种红耳龟在不同盐度水域中的生存状况,本研究选用体重67.28 g±19.39 g的红耳龟进行为期70 d的不同盐度胁迫实验,分别测定红耳龟在对照组以及盐度为10‰组和20‰组(以下简写为10组和20组)的体重特定增长率和血液生化指标变化.结果表明,盐度10组的体重特定增长率极显著高于对照组和盐度20组(P<0.01),而盐度20组的体重特定增长率略大于对照组,但差异不显著(P>0.05);盐度10组的肌酸激酶(CK)、谷草转氨酶(AST)、乳酸脱氢酶(LDH)、碱性磷酸酶(ALP)的活性显著高于对照组(P<0.05);盐度10组和20组的血糖(Glu)含量显著高于对照组(P<o.05);各盐度组血清渗透压(Osmp)、Na+、C1、K+、Mg2+、血清尿素氮(BUN)、尿酸(UA)含量差异显著(P<0.05);盐度20组Ca2+显著高于对照组(P<0.05).说明红耳龟可通过提高血液中血糖含量及代谢所需的酶活性使得其代谢水平升高,从而为抵抗胁迫提供所需能量;还可以通过提高血液渗透压及无机离子的浓度来适应外界渗透压的升高,从而使其能够在不同盐度水域中生存.本研究为红耳龟对盐度的耐受生理及入侵机理研究提供生理学方面的依据. 相似文献

The maximum growth temperature, the optimal growth temperature, and the estimated normal physiological range for growth of Shewanella gelidimarina are functions of water activity (aw), which can be manipulated by changing the concentration of sodium chloride. The growth temperatures at the boundaries of the normal physiological range for growth were characterized by increased variability in fatty acid composition. Under hyper- and hypoosmotic stress conditions at an aw of 0.993 (1.0% [wt/vol] NaCl) and at an aw of 0.977 (4.0% [wt/vol] NaCl) the proportion of certain fatty acids (monounsaturated and branched-chain fatty acids) was highly regulated and was inversely related to the growth rate over the entire temperature range. The physical states of lipids extracted from samples grown at stressful aw values at the boundaries of the normal physiological range exhibited no abrupt gel-liquid phase transitions when the lipids were analyzed as liposomes. Lipid packing and adaptational fatty acid composition responses are clearly influenced by differences in the temperature-salinity regime, which are reflected in overall cell function characteristics, such as the growth rate and the normal physiological range for growth. 相似文献

Exposure to NaC1, KCI, and CaCl₂ affected the entomopathogenic nematodes Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and Steinernema glaseri differently. Survival, virulence, and penetration efficiency of S. glaseri were not affected by these salts. At high concentrations, however, all three salts inhibited its ability to move through a soil column and locate and infect a susceptible host. Calcium chloride and KCl had no effect on H. bacteriophora survival, penetration efficiency, or movement through a soil column, but moderate concentrations of these salts enhanced H. bacteriophora virulence. NaCl, however, adversely affected each of these parameters at high salinities (>16 dS/m). Salt effects on S. glaseri are attributed solely to interference with nematode host-finding ability, whereas the NaCl effects on H. bacteriophora are attributed to its toxicity and possibly to interference with host-finding behavior. 相似文献

The long-term survival of Rhizobium phaseoli strains 127K17, 127K26, and 127K35 in legume inoculants prepared with eight different coals (one strain and one coal per inoculant) was studied. The coals used were Pennsylvania anthracite, bituminous coals from Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Utah, lignite from North Dakota and Texas, and subbituminous coals from New Mexico and Wyoming; they ranged in pH from 4.7 to 7.5 All coals, with the exceptions of Illinois bituminous coal and Texas lignite (pH's of 5.0 and 4.7, respectively), supported the growth and survival of all R. phaseoli strains. All coal-based inoculants in which rhizobial viability was maintained had more than 106 rhizobia per g for at least 7 months, and most contained more than 107 rhizobia per g after 12 months. It appears that most coals, regardless of grade or source, may be acceptable carriers for R. phaseoli inoculants. 相似文献

【目的】了解不同盐分配比和不同浓度梯度复合盐碱胁迫对‘赤霞珠’葡萄(Vitis vinfera ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’)幼苗生长和抗逆生理指标的影响,确认其耐盐碱性范围及其耐盐碱能力。【方法】 以1年生‘赤霞珠’自根苗为试材,用NaCl、Na2SO4、NaHCO3、Na2CO3按不同比例混合配置中性盐、弱碱性盐、强碱性盐3组复合盐溶液,每组各设置50、100、150 mmol/L3个浓度梯度,以不做处理的溶液作为对照,于幼苗生长期间进行定期浇灌处理,通过室内盆栽试验来模拟不同类型、不同程度盐碱胁迫,在处理后不同时期测定幼苗生长形态、生理及光合指标。【结果】(1)茎粗和叶面积随盐胁迫浓度增大,呈现先增大后减小的趋势, 而‘赤霞珠’幼苗的株高基本呈现下降趋势。其中,中性、弱碱性、强碱性盐胁迫组间相比,‘赤霞珠’幼苗株高在强碱性盐胁迫组150 mmol/L处理10 d、150 mmol/L处理40 d都较同期中性、弱碱性组相应浓度显著降低;(2)随着盐浓度的增大,SOD活性及MDA含量呈先增大后减小的趋势,而‘赤霞珠’幼苗叶片的POD活性呈现缓慢增加的趋势,强碱性盐胁迫组叶片POD活性在处理30-50d时均高于相同浓度的中性、弱碱性盐胁迫处理组,但随着时间处理延长,到处理60 d后逐渐低于同浓度其他两处理组,其中150 mmol/L浓度表现得更明显。;(3)‘赤霞珠’葡萄幼苗胞间CO2浓度、净光合速率、蒸腾速率随着盐碱浓度的增加主要呈下降趋势,其胞间CO2浓度与净光合速率均为50 mmol/L浓度处理时较高。在同期相同盐浓度处理下,叶片净光合速率在强碱性盐胁迫150 mmol/L浓度处理75 d时显著低于同期中性、弱碱性处理组。(4)在相同浓度条件下,强碱性盐胁迫处理的幼苗株高及最大叶面积都显著低于中性盐和弱碱性盐处理组;叶片SOD活性在50 mmol/L中性盐胁迫处理下较CK显著提高了27%;叶片MDA含量在150 mmol/L强碱性盐胁迫下随着时间延长显著逐渐增加。【结论】‘赤霞珠’幼苗生长在盐碱胁迫下受到一定限制,但其株高、叶面积、胞间CO2浓度、净光合速率、蒸腾速率在50 mmol/L浓度处理下均呈现较好的增长趋势,而其株高及茎粗在强碱性盐胁迫150 mmol/L盐碱溶液处理下均增长最不明显;在一定低浓度浓度范围内50 mmol/L盐碱处理有利于赤霞珠葡萄幼苗生长。 相似文献

This paper reports the changes which occurred in the concentrationof ions, organic acids, sugars and polyhydric alcohols whenplants of Phaseolus vulgaris were grown in culture solutioncontaining 48 m mol l1 sodium chloride. Attention wasfocused particularly on the changes in the primary and firsttrifoliate leaves. In the latter leaves of salt-treated plantsthere were initially very high concentrations of sodium andmuch higher concentrations of glucose and inositol than in controlleaves. Subsequently concentrations of these solutes declined,the decline of sodium being due to retranslocation out of theleaf. There were no striking differences between the concentrationof organic solutes of the primary leaves of salt-treated plantsand those of control plants. There were greater concentrationsof ions in the salt-treated primary leaves, particularly a greaterconcentration of potassium (though that in the medium was thesame in both treatments). While the calcium concentrations inboth sets of primary leaves were very similar, it appeared thatin the leaves of salt-treated plants much of the ion is solublewithin the cells while in the leaves of the control plants,most of the ion is thought to be associated with the cell wall.There was a greater concentration of organic acids in the leavesof the control plants but in both treatments, primary and trifoliateleaves each had a similar composition of acids. Sodium ionswere restrained from entering the leaves by selection againstthe ion in favour of potassium in the root and possibly by retentionof sodium in the stem. The data on solute concentrations togetherwith calculated values of cellular osmotic potentials are discussedin relation to the development of the first trifoliate leaves. 相似文献
