Blood groups of Peruvian mummies of known origin were determined by three different methods: agglutination-inhibition, induction of antibody production and mixed cell agglutination. The three techniques gave identical results, but the last two were useful in establishing the presence of H (O) antigen, while the first technique would not. The results indicate the presence of A, B, AB and O blood groups in America prior to known European contact. This suggests the need for a revision of concepts of blood groups in the American Indian.  相似文献

The results of ABO typing in Chilean mummies, a review of published South American paleoserological studies and a systematic discrepancy of admixture estimates based on ABO and Gm genes support the hypothesis that Andean pre-Columbian populations possessed the A (and perhaps the B) gene in small frequencies.  相似文献

Two cases of gallbladder disease found in Chilean mummies are presented. The cholesterol gallstones in these cases produced in one individual a localized peritonitis and in the other a probable duct obstruction. No cases of this disease have been seen in Peruvian mummies while in Chile it seems quite common, suggesting some environmental factor in the etiology.  相似文献

The problem of blood-grouping Peruvian mummies involves the theories on the origin of ABO polymorphism and current hypotheses concerning the peopling of the New World. Some attempts to perform these determinations were made by several research-workers. Owing to different results, especially for what concerns the presence or absence of A and B antigens, some of the results seemed neither reproductive nor reliable and suggested the hypothesis for the presence of contaminating substances.Since a purification method suitable for mummified material had been set-up in our laboratory and applied with successful results to Egyptian specimens, we thought it worthwhile to try its application to ancient Peruvian material.A sample of cancellous bone was ground-up, washed with pure melted phenol and with ethanol and extracted by 5% E.D.T.A. The extract was filtered through Sephadex G 25 columns and tested with H.I. reaction using anti-A and anti-B human sera and anti-H lectin prepared, purified and controlled for its specificity in our Laboratory.Grouping with this technique 33 Inca or pre-Inca Peruvian specimens, mostly coming from Ancon and Cuzco, 28 group O were found, while 5 samples were not diagnosed.  相似文献

Both in England and Chile the A blood group is found more frequently in the higher socioeconomic strata. The O group behaves inversely. This seems to be true, at least, for blood donors in England and for the general population in Chile. This sociogenetic cline interacts with sex, being less evident in women. In Chile the Rh system shows a cline with a higher frequency of the Rh(-) or d allele in higher socioeconomic strata. The Chilean population originated from the admixture of Europeans (mostly Spaniards) and Chilean aborigines (since 1541). Spaniards had high frequencies of the A and d alleles and an appreciable frequency of the B alleles. Chilean aborigines had very low frequencies or totally lacked these alleles. Spaniards maintained the higher socioeconomic strata and manual labor was performed by mestizos or aborigines. Thus the Chilean sociogenetic cline was explained by ethnic admixture, socioeconomic discrimination, and socioeconomic assortative mating. The present results show that the exclusive historical and cultural explanation of the cline is not sufficient and a genetic factor should be added to the former ones. The distribution of the ABO groups in England and Chile were found to be similar only in stratum I, the other strata being strikingly different. The AB and B groups did not reflect the cline in either population. The Chilean stratum I showed higher d and lower O gene frequencies than present Spaniards populations, a result that cannot be explained by cultural factors. The distribution of ABO groups in a sample of Chilean medical students and in children from public schools showed a strong interaction with sex. No genetic mechanism can be proposed to fit these results, however psychological heterosis seems a good approximation.  相似文献

Fog oases in western South America (locally named lomas) are distributed in a kind of fragmented or patchy way into the coastal desert. Their origin, as well as their current ecological connections in terms of species' dispersal capability, remains an open question. We analyzed the latitudinal pattern in plant species and phylogenetic similarities of 13 lomas, which cover the latitudinal extent of these habitats, from 7°58′ to 26°15′ S. A data-set of 1004 species from available checklists was considered. Plant species composition and phylogenetic relationships among lomas were analyzed by non-metric multidimensional scaling. Our results show three main groups of lomas (northern Peruvian, southern Peruvian, and North-Central Chilean lomas) that are aligned along a complex, nonlinear north–south gradient in ordination space. The weak species overlap between Peruvian and Chilean lomas, together with the higher content in endemic species of the Chilean communities, supports the hypothesis that, at least recently, species composition of the three main groups of lomas has been shaped by desert barriers limiting plant dispersal.  相似文献

With the aid of Eldon cards the distribution of the ABO blood groups and of the Rh factor (D) was investigated in different native ethnic groups (Kafirs, Kalash, Chitrali) in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan and Pakistan. All studied groups are characterized by a relatively high frequency of blood group gene A and extremely low frequencies of B and O. This distribution differs appreciably from that of the rest of the Indian subcontinent as well as that of the adjacent Central Asiatic areas. The possible causes of the exceptional position of the native Hindu Kush groups in the ABO blood group system are discussed. It may be assumed that selection as a result of mother-child compatibility played a role as will be shown in a later paper. Concerning the studied traits of the Rhesus system, all investigated groups fit in the range of variation of the South Asian area.  相似文献

Improving commercial utilization of perennial Medicago collections requires developing approaches that can rapidly and accurately characterize genetic diversity among large numbers of populations. This study evaluated the potential of using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) DNA markers, in combination with DNA bulking over multiple genotypes, as a strategy for high-throughput characterization of genetic distances (D) among alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) accessions. Bulked DNA templates from 30 genotypes within each of nine well-recognized germplasms (African, Chilean, Flemish, Indian, Ladak, Medicago sativa subsp. falcata, Medicago sativa subsp. varia, Peruvian, and Turkistan) were evaluated using 34 primer combinations. A total of 3754 fragments were identified, of which 1541 were polymorphic. The number of polymorphic fragments detected per primer combination ranged from 20 to 85. Pairwise D estimates among the nine germplasms ranged from 0.52 to 1.46 with M. sativa subsp. falcata being the most genetically dissimilar. Unweighted pair-group method arithmetic average (UPGMA) analysis of the marker data produced two main clusters, (i) M. sativa subsp. sativa and M. sativa subsp. varia, and (ii) M. sativa subsp. falcata. Cluster-analysis results and D estimates among the Chilean, Peruvian, Flemish, and M. sativa subsp. varia germplasms supported the hypothesis that Peruvian was more similar to original Spanish introductions into Central and South America than Chilean. Hierarchical arrangement of the nine germplasms was supported by their respective geographic, subspecific, and intersubspecific hybrid origins. Subsets of as few as seven highly informative primer pairs were identified that produced comparable D estimates and similar heirarchical arrangements compared with the complete dataset. The results indicate that use of primer-pair subsets for AFLP analysis of bulk DNA templates could serve as a high-throughput system for accurately characterizing genetic diversity among large numbers of alfalfa populations.  相似文献

Sex ratio of 17,273 blood donors born during the period between 1925 and 1935 was examined according to their month of birth and ABO blood groups in comparison with 5,810 healthy non-blood donors born in the 1900s to 1930s. The sex ratio of the blood donors and the non-blood donors varied similarly according to their month of birth with a prominent peak in summer births and a trough in winter births. This birth season with a high sex ratio was different from that of the general births during the period between 1921 and 1935, in which a maximum sex ratio was found in November. A possible explanation for the difference is the different rate of male and female infant deaths according to birth month. Variation of the sex ratio according to season of birth was not similar among the four ABO blood groups. Sex ratio of the donors with blood group B showed no elevation among the summer births. Non-blood donors with blood group B, on the contrary, showed a higher sex ratio than the others in the summer births. This difference can not be explained by infant or juvenile deaths. A possibility is that a tendency to become a blood donor is modified by the season of one's birth differently according to gender and ABO blood groups.  相似文献

This study aims to determine the incidence of serological ABO subgroups from a large-scale database, along with the features of blood samples with serological ABO discrepancies. The serological ABO results of one million individuals were randomly sampled from a blood donor database in Beijing between 2009 and 2010. All samples were diagnosed by serological reverse and forward ABO typing using an automatic analyzer. The proportions of the normal ABO types were 27.28%, 31.57%, 30.56%, and 10.16% for blood types A, B, O, and AB, respectively. In samples in which ABO discrepancies or obvious weak agglutinin were identified in the forward or reverse typing, further tests to analyze the ABO subgroup were conducted. The overall incidence of ABO subgroups was 0.047%, with 14 ABO subgroups observed: A2, A3, Ax, Am, Aint, Aend, B2, B3, Bx, Bm, Bel, B(A), cisAB, and ABh. In conclusion, this study revealed the exact normal ABO and subgroup distributions in the general, healthy population of Beijing using samples from a blood donor database.  相似文献

Identification of heterotic groups and patterns among breeding populations provides fundamental information to help plant breeders more knowledgeably manipulate heterosis. A diallel analysis was conducted among nine alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) germplasms, commonly referred to as African, Chilean, Flemish, Indian, Ladak, M. falcata, M. varia, Peruvian, and Turkistan, which represent a significant proportion of the genetic diversity present in US cultivars. Heterotic responses were determined by evaluating forage yield of the germplasms and their 36 half-diallel hybrids in seeded plots that were harvested five times in each of 2 years. Commercially acceptable yields were obtained from some hybrids of unimproved parents, where at least one parent was adapted to the study environment. Variation among crosses was attributed primarily to general combining ability (GCA) effects; however, specific combining ability effects were also significant. GCA estimates for African, Chilean and Peruvian were positive, while those for Ladak, M. falcata, and M. varia were negative. Estimates for variety heterosis effects were positive for Peruvian and M. falcata and negative for Indian and M. varia. Significant mid-parent heterosis [(MPH) range of –21% to 55%] and high-parent heterosis [(HPH) range of –33% to 23%] was detected. M. falcata hybrids exhibited the highest MPH values. However, this likely reflects the poor yield of M. falcata per se in the study environment and consequently, low MPH values. Peruvian hybrids demonstrated the highest cross mean performance, significant positive MPH in all crosses, and positive HPH in five out of eight crosses. The results indicate that Peruvian should be recognized as a heterotic group. Alfalfa breeders may wish to explore opportunities for heterotic yield gains that are likely to exist in hybrids between the Peruvian germplasm and elite breeding populations, in particular, those adapted to the southwestern United States. MPH results suggest that alfalfa breeders may have capitalized on the heterotic response between Flemish and M. varia during past development of alfalfa synthetics adapted to the central and northern latitudes of the United States.  相似文献

Blood samples from 2,232 individuals of a Bengalee Caste Hindu population were investigated in an attempt to confirm the association between the ABO and haptoglobin (HP) systems previously found in populations of European origin. Indians differ from Europeans in having lower HP*1 and higher ABO*B frequencies. In spite of this, as in previous studies, a weak HP/ABO association was found with a significantly lower HP*1 allele frequency in blood group O versus other ABO groups.  相似文献

The accuracy of regular serum methods to detect ABO blood groups can be negatively affected by some factors, such as irregular antibodies, autoantibodies or effects of diseases leading to false or weak agglutination. This study aimed to accurately identify ambiguous ABO blood groups by serological and gene detection methods. The samples were collected in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from December 2018 to December 2019. ABO genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific primer (PCR-SSP) method in 20 samples, and ABO exons 6 and 7 or FUT1 and FUT2 genes were sequenced in 5 samples. The genes detected in the 21 specimens included 4 cases of A/B, 2 cases of A205/O01, 3 cases of A/O01, 3 cases of A/O02, 1 case of O01/O01, 1 case of O01/O02, 1 case of B/O01, 1 case of B/O02, 1 case of Bel/O01, 1 case of Cisab01/O01, 1 case of rare B/O04, 1 case of Bombay-like Bmh, 1 case of new gene showing c.261del G of exon 6, c.579 T > C of exon 7 and B new/O01. This study suggests that ABO blood group genotyping technology combined with serological typing can be used for accurately typing ambiguous blood groups.  相似文献

This study was designed to identify the rare type ABO blood groups, B(A) 02, from Eastern China. Three samples with discordant serological results during routine blood type identification and four samples from one sample’ family were selected. All of them were detected by serological method. The exon 6 and 7 of the ABO genes were amplified by PCR and sequenced. They were typed as AsubB by serology and as BO by genotype. In AsubB samples, nt 700C>G mutation was detected in B gene, which was previously defined as B(A)02 alleles. In these seven samples, six showed B(A)02/O01 and one showed B(A)02/O02.B(A)02 allele was found to be more common in this study than B(A)04 which is considered to be more frequent than B(A)02. The careful identification of rare blood types is important for the safety of clinical blood transfusion.  相似文献

We have established a new simian-type blood group system (M blood groups) in the African green monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops), using a haemagglutinating antibody which was developed by alloimmunization. The M blood groups consisted of two phenotypes, type-M and type-m. We have also determined the mode of inheritance as well as the distribution of both simian-type M and human-type ABO blood groups, employing 113 families including 160 animals. The family analysis revealed that (1) the simian-type M blood groups were governed by the two alleles, dominant M and recessive m, and (2) the human-type ABO blood groups were governed by 3 alleles, codominant A and B and silent O, although no monkey of phenotype-O was found in our breeding colony. Differences in the phenotypic distribution and gene frequency of respective M and ABO blood groups were observed among 3 populations imported at different times. The genetic management of the African green monkey breeding colony was discussed in relation to the difference in distribution of phenotypes of M and ABO blood groups between the parental (wild-originated) and the first filial (colony-born) populations.  相似文献

Blood group systems are determined early in intrauterine life, specific to the individual and therefore significant in management and identification. Seven hundred and ninety five volunteer students of the Abraka campus of Delta State University were analyzed in this 4-year retrospective study. Amongst ABO system, blood group O was most common followed by A, B and AB respectively. Rhesus positive was more common than Rhesus negative in the rhesus system. Gender had no significant effect on both blood group systems studied. In the combined ABO and Rhesus blood groups, O positive was most common followed by A positive, B positive, AB positive O negative and A negative respectively. This study documents ABO and Rhesus blood group distribution patterns amongst south southern Nigerians. Findings will be useful in maintaining a register of possible donors, for effective management of medical emergencies.  相似文献

We investigated the possible differential effects of A and B blood group materno-fetal incompatibility on human fertility through a comparative analysis of couples with recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) and healthy mothers. ABO phenotype was determined in 5180 healthy mothers and their newborn babies from the population of Sassari (Sardinia) and in 1359 healthy puerperae (women who have just given birth) from the population of Rome. Mother-newborn joint ABO distribution in healthy mothers was compared with wife-husband joint ABO distribution in RSA couples. Distortions from expected distribution were evaluated by symmetry analysis. In both RSA couples and healthy mothers significant deviation from expected symmetry patterns were observed. Deviations in RSA are in the opposite direction to those observed in healthy puerperae. The most important difference observed concerned the symmetric joint phenotypes mother (women) A/infant (husband) B (B incompatible) and mother (women) B/infant (husband) A (A incompatible). A low number of B incompatible in RSA couples and a high number of B incompatible in healthy mothers was observed. The phenomenon is much more evident in women aged 24-28 years, a period of maximum fecundity. It is possible that the presence of anti-B immunoglobulin in the mother might have a protective effect against fetal loss in some cases of mother-infant ABO incompatibility.  相似文献
