Age and growth of the Black Sea turbot, Psetta maxima, were determined from a total of 1445 individuals collected along the eastern Black Sea coast between 1990 and 1996. Age was estimated by interpreting growth rings in whole and broken sagittal otoliths. The former method underestimated the age over 5 years, and a maximum age of 11 years was observed by the latter. Marginal increment analysis clearly showed that a single annulus is formed in early summer each year. Growth in length differed between sexes, and females attained a larger size than males at the same age. No significant difference was found between the mean observed total length (TL), the back‐calculated TL derived from radius measurements and the TL estimated from otolith size–fish size relationship. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated by the length‐at‐age data were: L = 96.24 cm; K = 0.119 year?1; t0 = ?0.01 year for the entire population.  相似文献

The garfish Belone belone euxini (Günther, 1866) is a commercially important pelagic fish species in Sinop artisanal fishery, which is showing a decreasing trend in catch results. As a basis for fisheries management a sampling program was carried out between October 2000 and September 2001 along the Turkish coast of the Black Sea, to study the population structure, growth, and reproduction cycle of garfish in the area, and to achieve a rough estimate of exploitation. The length–weight relationship and von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated as W = 0.00076 L3.137, L = 74.64 cm, K = 0.13 year?1, to = ?3.67, respectively. First sexual maturity was estimated at age 2 and at a total length of 38.8 cm for females. The spawning period was from May to September. The total fecundity–length relationship was estimated as F = 0.0041 L4.1086 (r2 = 0.92). Mortality rates were Z = 1.24 year?1, M = 0.23 year?1and F = 1.01 year?1 for total, natural, and fishing mortality, respectively. The exploitation ratio E = 0.81 indicates that the population is heavily exploited.  相似文献

The growth and mortality of brushtooth lizardfish Saurida undosquamis (Richardson, 1848) in Iskenderun Bay (eastern Mediterranean Sea) were investigated based on length frequency data using the fisat software. Total length of the sampled 4711 fish ranged from 6.0 to 39.0 cm. The von Bertalanffy growth function estimates were L = 42.00 cm, k = 0.51 year‐1, t0 = −0.29 years. Total mortality rate (Z) was computed as 1.76 year‐1 and the exploitation ratio was 0.51, indicating that the brushtooth lizardfish stock is on the verge being overfished.  相似文献

Age, growth, spawning period and maturity of the solenette (Buglossidium luteum Risso, 1810) were studied in the central Aegean Sea to provide fisheries managers with essential data for science‐based management. A total of 1220 samples were collected by trawl hauls from July 2004 to June 2007 in ?zmir Bay (Turkey). Sample sizes ranging from 5.3 to 11.6 cm total length were composed of 46% females, 32% males and 22% immature individuals, with a female to male ratio of 1 : 0.7. Age composition stages of the females were from I to IV, and males between I and III. The length–weight relationship was calculated as W = 0.0101L3.008 for all samples. Estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L = 13.30 cm, to = ?0.440 year and k = 0.481 year?1, with a growth performance index of 1.93 (?’). The spawning period began in April and continued until July. Lengths at first maturity of females and males were 8.1 and 7.9 cm total length, respectively. Both sexes matured at the age of 2 years.  相似文献

It is recognized by the FAO that management of fish resources in the western Indian Ocean is complicated by the lack of data on the basic biology and landing statistics for exploited fish species. In this paper data are presented on the population biology of kingsoldier bream, Argyrops spinifer (Forsskål 1775), in the Arabian Sea with a view to contributing towards the development of management plans for its sustainable exploitation. Samples were obtained from the Omani artisanal hand‐line fishery catch, January 2001–December 2002. Total length (LT) of fish sampled ranged from 20 to 68 cm (males) and 25 to 70 cm (females). The male : female ratio was similar up to 55 cm LT but the larger size‐classes were composed predominately of male fish. LT/carcass weight (WC) relations for male and female fish were similar and the combined data produced an equation WC = 0.00005 × LT2.67. Marginal increment analysis indicated an annual cycle of opaque and translucent ring formation in otoliths that was related to the change in surface water temperature during the annual monsoon period. The opaque zone was completed in May and the translucent zone began to form in June. Female and male fish age ranged between 2 and 25 years. Both males and females exhibited similar asymptotic growth patterns; the combined von Bertalanffy growth function was Lt = 64.6(1 ? e[?0.142(t + 0.489)]). Gonadosomatic indices and gonad condition of male and female fish indicated that the spawning season occurred between September and January. Size (L50) and age at first maturity (A50) were estimated to be 36.5 cm LT and 5.0 years for males and 37.2 cm LT and 5.6 years females, respectively. The results of this study provide fundamental information on the biology and population dynamics of A. spinifer in the Arabian Sea that can be used in management models for the continued sustainable exploitation of this species in the Omani demersal coastal fisheries.  相似文献

The relationships between somatic growth and otolith dimensions, otolith size to estimated age and growth parameters of the tigertooth croaker (Otolithes ruber) were investigated in 100 specimens (size range: 19.1–52.0 cm, total length) from the Oman Sea area, September 2014. All 100 otoliths were sectioned and determined by age. The oldest specimen was a 4.5‐year‐old female with a total length of 40.6 cm; the youngest specimen was also a female estimated at 1 year of age with a total length of 19.1 cm. The von Bertalanffy growth equation was estimated as Lt = 54.70 (1 ? exp (?0.37 (t + 0.21))). Concluded was that there is a significant relationship between body size, otolith dimensions and estimated age of Otolithes ruber.  相似文献

The age and growth parameters of Dipturus chilensis were estimated by counting growth rings from thin sections of vertebral centra from 400 fish (246 females and 154 males), ranging from 23 to 124 cm total length (LT), and backcalculating fish lengths at previous ages. Marginal increment analysis lent support to the hypothesis of annual deposition of band‐pairs, which formed during the winter months. The oldest female D. chilensis aged in this study was 21 years and 117 cm LT, whereas the oldest male was 18 years and 93 cm LT. A 4·7% index of average per cent error (IAPE) suggested that this is a precise method for calculating the age of D. chilensis. Observed LT were lower than backcalculated LT, which implies the influence of Lee's phenomenon. The von Bertalanffy growth equations, based on mean length‐at‐age data, were estimated as Lt = 128·3 (1 ? e?0·112 (t + 0·514)) for females and Lt = 107·8 (1 ? e?0·134 (t + 0·862)) for males where t is age (years). Growth was significantly different between sexes: females reached a larger adult size. Ages and lengths at 50% maturity were estimated at 14 years of age and 106 cm LT for females and 11 years of age and 86 cm LT for males. At c. 14 years, there was a decline in growth rates in females. The factor most likely responsible for this was sexual maturity, which caused a discontinuity in growth of female fish. These results show that this species is slow‐growing, long‐lived, relatively large and of delayed maturity, characteristics that make it vulnerable to exploitation.  相似文献

Age and growth were studied for Gerres oyena (Forsskål, 1775) on Okinawa Island, southern Japan from November 2002 to November 2005. A total of 408 samples was collected ranging from 5.85 to 19.65 cm standard length (LSL). Male fish age was estimated at up to 6+ years, whereas females reached 8+ years as estimated by sectioned otoliths. The length–weight relationships and the von Bertalanffy growth curve were described for all individuals as: and Lt = 20.54{1 − e−0.1807(t+2.8462)}, respectively. Opaque rings were formed from April to August during the spring–summer seasons.  相似文献

A sample of 346 Uranoscopus scaber (L., 1758) was collected from the southeastern Black Sea between January 2002 and May 2005 in order to provide information on age, growth, length–weight relationship, and stomach contents of this species. Total length and total weight of sampled fish ranged from 5.2 to 21.9 cm and from 2.0 to 182.5 g, respectively. The sex ratio (1 : 1.98) was biased toward females (P < 0.05). Isometric growth was determined in the population. Length–weight relationships for all individuals were described by the parameters: a = 0.0167, b = 3.00, with the r2 = 0.99. The population was composed of five age‐classes (I–V years). The von Bertalanffy growth parameters (±SE) and confidence limit (CL, 95%) for the entire population were: L = 26.31 ± 0.838 cm (CL: 24.66–27.96), k = 0.339 ± 0.023 1/year (CL: 0.294–0.385), and to = 0.087 ± 0.0346 year (CL: 0.019–0.155) (r2 = 0.96). Growth performance index (Φ) was 2.37. The diet was composed of Gobius sp. (2.2%),Trachurus trachurus (2.1%), Merlangius merlangus euxinus (4.3%) and unidentified fish species (17.4%); 39.1% were unidentified remains.  相似文献

The age, growth, reproduction, sexual maturity and stomach content of John Dory (Zeus faber), caught in the Bay of Saros (North Aegean Sea) between September 2006 and September 2008, were investigated. The female‐male ratio was 1.6 : 1. The total length of females ranged from 13.8 cm to 52.8 cm, and of males from 12.2 cm to 42.9 cm. The length‐weight relationship was W = 0.0174*L2.936. Age data derived from vertebral centra readings were used to estimate the growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy equation. Growth parameters for females were L = 58.50 cm K = 0.11 year?1, t0 = ?0.99 year and for males L = 45.01 cm, K = 0.13 year?1, t0 = ?1.17 year. Maximum age was 18 years for females and 17 years for males. Length at first maturity for both females and males was 25.4 cm. Monthly values of the gonadosomatic index indicated that spawning occurred mainly in two peaks: one between January and June, and the other from August to September. Stomach content analysis showed the most‐preferred prey to be Pisces (IRI% 97.3).  相似文献

The growth and mortality of Mullus barbatus from Izmir Bay (Aegean Sea) was investigated based on length frequency data using the fisat software. Total length of the sampled 110 891 fish ranged from 5.0 to 23.0 cm. The seasonalized von Bertalanffy growth resulted in parameter values of L = 24.26 cm, k = 0.565, t0 = ?0.305, C = 0.27 and WP = 0.45. Potential lifespan was estimated to be 5.3 years. Total mortality (Z) based on the length converted catch curve was 3.70 (seasonal data) and 3.85 (non‐seasonal data). Natural mortality (M) was 1.07 and the exploitation ratio (0.71–0.72) revealed an overfished stock.  相似文献

Age and growth of the nototheniid fishTrematomus bernacchii Boulenger 1902 were estimated by reading the sagittal otoliths of 457 adult specimens caught off Terra Nova Bay (Ross Sea) in the austral summer 1990–1991. Annuli in ground and polished otoliths were examined using a dissecting microscope under reflected light. The Von Bertalanffy growth equation was Lt=273.5 [1 − e−0.109(t+2.10)] for males (n=122) and Lt=422.2 [1 − e−0.055(t+1.92)] for females (n=211) where L is total length in millimetres. Maximum estimated age was 21 years for females and 16 years for males. This is in agreement with the hypothesis that considers slow growth and old age as a typical feature of Antarctic fishes.  相似文献

This study examines age and growth of Brauer's lanternfish Gymnoscopelus braueri and rhombic lanternfish Krefftichthys anderssoni from the Scotia Sea in the Southern Ocean, through the analysis of annual growth increments deposited on sagittal otoliths. Otolith pairs from 177 G. braueri and 118 K. anderssoni were collected in different seasons from the region between 2004 and 2009. Otolith-edge analysis suggested a seasonal change in opaque and hyaline depositions, indicative of an annual growth pattern, although variation within the populations of both species was apparent. Age estimates varied from 1 to 6 years for G. braueri (40 to 139 mm standard length; LS) and from 0 to 2 years for K. anderssoni (26 to 70 mm LS). Length-at-age data were broadly consistent with population cohort parameters identified in concurrent length-frequency data from the region for both species. The estimated values of von Bertalanffy growth curves for G. braueri were L = 133.22 mm, k = 0.29 year−1 and t0 = −0.21 year and the values for K. anderssoni were L = 68.60 mm, k = 0.71 year−1 and t0 = −0.49 year. There were no significant (P > 0.05) differences in growth between sexes for either species, suggesting that males and females have similar growth and development trajectories in the Scotia Sea. A positive allometric relationship between LS and wet mass was found for each species, as well as a significant (P < 0.0001) linear relationship between otolith size and LS. Growth performance (Ф′) was similar between the two species and congruent with other myctophid species across the Southern Ocean. This study provides important parameters for future Southern Ocean ecosystem studies in a resource management context.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to investigate boxlip mullet, Oedalechilus labeo (Cuvier, 1829), a species that lives in open, oligotrophic and stenohaline waters, exhibits slower growth rates and has a longer life span than other mugilids. A total of 1662 specimens ranging from 2.2 to 24.4 cm TL were obtained by beach seine in the eastern Adriatic Sea. The overall sex ratio was unbalanced in favour of females (1.0 : 1.3) and differed statistically from the expected 1 : 1. The reproductive season extended through summer and autumn. All specimens above 15 cm TL were sexually mature. Length‐weight relationship for males was TW (g) = 0.010 × TL (cm)2.975 and TW (g) = 0.009 × TL (cm)3.014 for females. The age study comprised 150 (38.5%) males, 192 (49.4%) females, and 47 (12.1%) immature O. labeo, for a total of 389 individuals. Age of the fish was determined by scale readings, with the maximum age of 10+ observed for both sexes. A predominance of age classes 1+ and 2+ (71.0%) in the total catch was noted. Parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation for combined samples were: L = 25.93 cm, k = 0.192 year?1 and t0 = ?1.427 year. The growth parameters showed that males grew at a slightly lower rate than females. The size and age frequency distributions of both sexes were not significantly different. When compared to other mugilids, O. labeo reaches the lowest maximum body length and has a relatively slower growth and a longer life span.  相似文献

Growth parameters in pikeperch may be affected by several factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the growth and length–weight of pikeperch in a reservoir in south‐western Spain and compare the results with previous published data. Age and growth are described for Sander lucioperca from the Alcántara Reservoir (south‐western Spain) from March to October 2009. A total of 285 fish were examined; the ratio of males to females was estimated as 0.78:1 and age ranges as 1–5 years. Total lengths ranged from 16.1 to 52.5 cm. The length–weight relationships were described as W = 0.00 462 TL3.09 (r = 0.9865) for males and W = 0.00279 TL3.16 (r = 0.9921) for females. Growth was expressed in length and the von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated as L∞ = 92.14 cm, k = 0.09, t0 = ?1.05 for males and L∞ = 107.72 cm, k = 0.08, t0 = ?1.16 for females. Growth performance indexes were also estimated as Φ’ = 2.88 for males and Φ’ = 2.96 for females. Differences in growth and length–weight relationships between sexes were not found.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to investigate the population structure, length–weight relationship (LWR) and growth of white seabream, Diplodus sargus sargus (L., 1758) in Beymelek Lagoon, Turkey. Samples were collected by gill‐ and trammel nets of various mesh sizes, February 2006 to January 2007. A total of 355 specimens (51 males; 34 females; 270 unidentified) were collected. Male to female ratio was 1.50 : 1. Ages ranged from 0 to 3 years; about 70% were juveniles. Most fish were between 13 and 16 cm in total length and below 90 g in weight. The LWR of all individuals was W = 0.0140 × L3.1028. The von Bertalanffy growth equation was calculated as Lt = 39.9 × [1 – exp(?0.268 × (t + 1.753)] and the growth performance index (Φ′) was 6.056.  相似文献

This study investigated the age and growth of damselfish, Chromis notate, from Jeju Island in Korea. Samples were collected monthly by lift net from September 2013 to August 2014. Total lengths of the damselfish ranged from 6.4 to 15.3 cm. The relationship between total length and wet weight was WW = 0.0125TL3.1631 for females, and WW = 0.0091TL3.2769 for males. The slopes in the relationship between length and weight were not significantly different between sexes, but were significantly different in the intercepts. There were more female than male specimens (1.3:1). Age determination was conducted using the otoliths. Marginal increment (MI) declined in summer and winter, which suggests that two rings are formed each year. Ages of sampled individuals ranged from 1 to 5 years. Length‐at‐age data were fitted using the von Bertalanffy growth model. The estimated growth functions were Lt = 19.93 [1 ? exp?0.21 (t + 0.811)] total length and wet weight was females, and Lt = 16.47 [1 ? exp?0.32 (t + 0.499)] for males.  相似文献

Age structure and growth parameters were determined for a population of small spotted grunt, Pomadasys commersonnii in the Arabian Sea. Small spotted grunt samples were collected monthly between September 2007 and August 2008 by beam trawl [40 mm cod‐end mesh size] surveys conducted along the Arabian Sea coast of Oman from Ras Al‐Had in the north to the Oman‐Yemen border in the south west of Salalah between latitudes 16o 33′N and 22o 21′N and longitude 53o 09′ and 59o 55′ E and from depths of 20 to 250 m respectively. Marginal increment analysis of the sagittal otolith confirmed the deposition of annual increments on transverse sections, validating this technique for age and growth studies. Fish size (Fork Length, FL) ranged between 33–78 cm and age of fish ranged between 2 and 14 years with 5–9 years old fish comprising the majority of the catch. Both males and female exhibited asymptotic patterns of growth and the combined growth curve for both sexes provided von Bertalanffy growth (VBG) parameters of L = 77.2 cm FL (≡83.8 cm Total Length), = 0.232/y and t0 = ?0.058 y. VBG parameters, derived from Length‐Frequency Distribution Analysis (LFA) using ELEFAN1, PROJMAT and SLCA, obtained similar values (average values for the 3 methods: L = 78.8 cm FL,= 0.35/y and t0 = ?0.64 y) to those obtained from otolith analysis. A strong linear relationship was observed between otolith weight and age, and although age residuals ±4 years was observed between sagittal otolith age and estimated age (depending on sex and otolith weight), the results indicated that otolith weight could be used as a rapid proxy to estimate age and derive VBG parameters. In conclusion, both otolith ageing and LFA methods provided similar L and k values and the average values derived from all 4 methods lies within the auximetric plot for the species providing confidence in the VBG parameters obtained for small spotted grunt in the Arabian Sea.  相似文献

In order to update existing life history parameters, age and growth patterns were determined for Giant Kelpfish, Heterostichus rostratus sampled from nearshore kelp forest and estuary habitats in southern California (USA) from April 2012 through June 2015. Fish were collected by pole spear, beach seine, beam trawl, purse seine, and square enclosure. Using age‐at‐length data derived from otolith readings, Giant Kelpfish were found to have a relatively short life span with the largest examined fish reaching a maximum total length of 413 mm at an age of 5 years. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated for this species were: L = 45.1 cm, = 0.25, t0 = ?0.66. Standard length (SL, cm)‐total length (TL, cm) and total length (TL, cm)‐weight (W, g) relationships were described by the equations: SL = 0.90 TL – 1 and = 2.21 × 10?3 TL3.39, respectively. Wild juvenile Giant Kelpfish collected for this study had a higher growth rate than laboratory‐reared fish from a previous study.  相似文献

Samples of Paralonchurus brasiliensis Steindachner, 1875 (627 females; no males) were taken monthly from June 1997 to May 1998 at the fishing pier of Cidreira – Rio Grande do Sul (30°08′S; 50°11′W) in southern Brazil. The fish were captured by sport fishermen using different sizes of hook‐and‐line. The reproductive period of P. brasiliensis extends from August to March, presenting greater activity from October to February. Females reach first maturation at 15.4 cm total length (TL). Of the 466 scales analyzed, one to six annuli were found. Growth annuli are formed between June and August, corresponding to the winter period (southern hemisphere), with the first visible annulus being formed when the fish are 1.5 years old. The length growth curve for P. brasiliensis females is described as: Lt = 20.0 (1 ? e?0.564×t), TL in centimeters and age in years. The undersize asymptotic length may be a result of excessive fishing mortality on the studied population.  相似文献
