Cytochromeb gene of marine mammals: Phylogeny and evolution   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The DNA sequences of the mitochondrial cytochromeb gene of marine mammals (Cetacea, Pinnipedia, Sirenia) were compared with cytochromeb genes of terrestrial mammals including the semiaquatic hippopotamus. The comparison included 28 sequences, representing 22 families and 10 orders. The dugong (order Sirenia) sequence associated with that of the elephant, supporting the Tethytheria clade. The fin whale and dolphin (order Cetacea) sequences are more closely related to those of the artiodactyls, and the comparison suggests that the hippopotamus may be the extant artiodactyl species that is most closely related to the cetaceans. The seal sequence may be more closely related to those of artiodactyls, cetaceans, and perissodactyls than to tethytheres, rodents, lagomorphs, or primates. The cytochromeb proteins of mammals do not evolve at a uniform rate. Human and elephant cytochromeb amino acid sequences were found to evolve the most rapidly, while those of myomorph rodents evolved slowest. The cytochromeb of marine mammals evolves at an intermediate rate. The pattern of amino acid substitutions in marine mammals is similar to that of terrestrial mammals.  相似文献

A phylogenetic analysis of 25 species, representing eight genera of theRubieae tribe (Rubiaceae), has been made using the DNA sequence of the chloroplastatp B-rbc L intergene region. Six tropical genera from other tribes ofRubiaceae have been used as outgroups. Whatever the method of analysis (distance, parsimony or maximum likelihood), five groups are clearly separated and described as informal clades. Their relative relationships are not clearly resolved by the parsimony analysis, resulting in eight equally parsimonious trees, 327 steps long, with a consistency index (CI) of 0.749 (excluding uninformative sites). TheRubieae tribe appears monophyletic from the data available. Some new and partly unexpected phylogenetic relationships are suggested. The genusRubia forms a separate clade and appears to be the relatively advanced sister group of the remaining taxa. TheSherardia clade also includes the generaCrucianella andPhuopsis. Galium sect.Aparinoides appears closely attached to theAsperula sect.Glabella clade. The remaining taxa ofGalium are paraphyletic:Galium sect.Platygalium (in theCruciata clade) is linked to the advanced generaCruciata andValantia; the more apomorphic groups ofGalium form theGalium sect.Galium clade, including the perennial sectionsGalium, Leiogalium, andLeptogalium as well as the annual (and possibly polyphyletic) sect.Kolgyda.  相似文献

The new scleractinian coral genusHexasmiliopsis is described on the basis of material from the Early Aptian (Early Cretaceous) of Murcia (Spain). The new genus of the Heterocoeniidae family is characterised by its solitary growth form, a very strong main septum and the presence of apophysal septa. It is closely related to the generaHexasmilia (phaceloid growth form),Rodinosmilia andTiarasmilia (both without main septum). The genus is monospecific and represents only the type species,Hexasmiliopsis saldanai.   相似文献

A molecular phylogenetic study of selected species of three sub-genera of the genusCordyceps was undertaken, along with representatives of the generaAkanthomyces, Aschersonia, Gibellula, Hymenostilbe, Hypocrella, Nomuraea andTorrubiella, to examine their inter-relationship. Phylogenetic analyses of the data indicated that the Clavicipitaceae form a monophyletic group within the Hypocreales, while the monophyly ofCordyceps was not supported. Four clades were identified:Cor. militaris/Cor. pseudomilitaris; Cor. iranginesis/Cor. sphecocephala; Cor. intermedia/Cor. capitata; andCor. cylindrica/Nom. atypicola. The sub-genusNeocordyceps was shown to be monophyletic while the sub-generaEucordyceps andOphiocordyceps do not form monophyletic groups. The genusHypocrella appeared monophyletic, and radiated after the formation of the generaCordyceps, andTorrubiella. Akanthomyces arachnophilus andGi. pulchra, anamorphs ofTorrubiella species, formed a distinct clade that was separate from one formed by the scale insect pathogens,To. luteorostrata andPaecilomyces cinnamomeus, suggesting that this genus may be polyphyletic.  相似文献

The tribe Massonieae Baker (Hyacinthaceae-Hyacinthoideae) presently consists of about 19 genera and 230 species distributed from Africa (south of the Sahara) to Madagascar and India. Based on atpB and trnL-F DNA sequences the tribe is monophyletic only when the genus Pseudoprospero is excluded from Massonieae. In most trnL-F trees, this genus occupies a basal position within subfamily Hyacinthoideae and is sister to the rest of the subfamily. Molecular data suggest that the remaining genera of Massonieae do not share common ancestry with the Eurasian/North-African tribe Hyacintheae Dumort. (Scilla, Hyacinthus and allies), and thus a narrow concept of the essentially Eurasian genus Scilla is supported. Members of well-supported clades in Massonieae usually show similarities in seed characteristics as determined by scanning electron microscopy. Phylogenetic position and seed morphology indicate that Massonia angustifolia and M. zeyheri do not belong to the genus Massonia but fall into a clade together with Daubenya, Androsiphon and Amphisiphon. The genus Whiteheadia appears paraphyletic in the 50% majority rule trnL-F tree and occupies a basal position next to Massonia. However, in the strict consensus tree neither monophyly nor polyphyly can be excluded for this genus. Seed appendages are documented for members of the genera Ledebouria and Lachenalia. Within the genera of Massonieae there is a tendency towards bending of the seed axis. This phenomenon is most obvious within the genus Lachenalia. Delimitation of genera based on seed morphology largely agrees with the results of molecular studies. Correlation between number, size and color of seeds, geographical distribution and phylogenetic position of the genera are discussed. Electronic Publication  相似文献

A cladistic analysis of 44 species of the generaCladina andCladonia is presented.Pycnothelia papillaria, Cladia aggregata andC. retipora were used as outgroup taxa. The consensus of all equally parsimonious trees suggests a common ancestral origin for species inCladonia andCladina while the generaPycnothelia andCladia cluster outside this group. The results do not support distinction ofCladina at genus level although it is distinguished as a monophyletic group but within the genusCladonia. The current sectional division ofCladonia is not supported. SectionsCocciferae andHelopodium are best supported but even these groups as currently delimited seem to in include elements that are more closely related to species of the other sections, e.g.C. carneola of sect.Cocciferae andC. pityrophylla of sect.Helopodium. Sections such asUnciales andPerviae seem to be artificial assemblages. In general the evolutionary scheme of the genus seems to be more complicated than revealed by the current sectional division.  相似文献

Two cytochromeb pseudogenes were isolated from PCR amplified products ofCebuella pygmaea DNA. These sequences showed insertions and deletions when compared to paralogous mitochondrial sequence regions of several primates. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that an ancestral pseudogene originated sometime before the divergence ofCebuella andCallithrix and that this sequence was later duplicated some 5.6 million years ago. Parsimony and distance analyses indicated thatCebuella pygmaea andCallithrix species of theargentata group were more closely related to one another than any of them was toCallithrix species of thejacchus group, in agreement with previous analyses based on nuclear genes and karyotypic data. These findings also indicated thatCallithrix is a paraphyletic genus, in agreement with previous propositions thatCebuella should be included within the genusCallithrix.  相似文献

A small, loose lying, unbranched, filamentous alga from the Ross Sea, Antarctica, is described as a new species, Lola irregularis. The genus Lola is closely related to the genera Hormiscia, Rhizoclonium, and Chaetomorpha in the family Cladophoraceae. A key to all known species of Lola is included. This is the first record of a species of Lola south of the Antarctic convergence.  相似文献

Sequences of the nrDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and the cpDNAtrnL/trnF intergenic spacer (IGS) region were analysed for 41 Mediterranean and Eurasian representatives of the Anthemideae (Compositae) to ascertain the systematic position of the unispecific genusCastrilanthemum Vogt & Oberprieler and to study the phylogeny of the Anthemideae in the Mediterranean region. Both markers consistently point to the close relationship ofCastrilanthemum with the W Mediterranean generaLeucanthemopsis (Giroux) Heywood andProlongoa Boiss., forming a strongly supported monophyletic group (theLeucanthemopsis-group which also comprises the unispecific genusHymenostemma (Kunze) Willk.). Results also demonstrate that subtribes Achilleinae, Leucantheminae, and Matricariinae sensu Bremer & Humphries are non-monophyletic. Besides results from sequence variation, a marked 5bp-deletion intrnL/trnF IGS divides all these subtribes into more basal subgroups which are related to each other and to the large Eurasian generaTanacetum L. andAnthemis L., and a monophyletic group of closely related and more advanced subgroups which also contain the monophyletic Chrysantheminae sensu Bremer & Humphries. For this second group a W Mediterranean centre of diversification is suggested, however, its sister-group relationships within the basal grade of generic groups remain unclear.  相似文献

In order to determine the nearly complete 16S rRNA gene sequences of cyanobacteria originating from nonaxenic cultures, a cyanobacterium-specific oligonucleotide probe was developed to distinguish polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products of the cyanobacterial rRNA operons from those resulting from amplification of contaminating bacteria. Using this screening method the 16S rRNA genes of four nonaxenic filamentous cyanobacterial strains belonging to the generaLeptolyngbya andOscillatoria were cloned and sequenced. For the genusLeptolyngbya, the 16S rRNA sequence of the axenic strain PCC 73110 was also determined. Phylogenetic trees were constructed based on complete and partial sequences. The results show that the strainsLeptolyngbya foveolarum Komárek 1964/112,Leptolyngbya sp. VRUC 135 Albertano 1985/1, andLeptolyngbya boryanum PCC 73110 belong to the same cluster. StrainOscillatoria cf.corallinae SAG 8.92, which contains the rare photosynthetic pigment CU-phycoerythrin, is not closely related to other CU-phycoerythrin-containing cyanobacteria.Oscillatoria agardhii CYA 18, which is a representative of planktonicOscillatoria species that form toxic blooms in Norwegian inland waters, has no close relatives in the tree.  相似文献

The majority of Middle American cichlids are placed in the informal assemblage ‘Cichlasoma.’ The group is divided into eight sections which appear to be based primarily on trophic morphology. Although several members of ‘Cichlasoma’ have been used in ecomorphological, behavioral, and biogeographic studies, no phylogenetic hypotheses for the group exist. In an attempt to develop a better understanding of the phylogenetic relationships of ‘cichlasomine’ cichlids, we examined the evolution of the trophic specialization, substratum-sifting, in two sections, ‘Cichlasoma(Thorichthys)’ and ‘C.(Amphilophus),’ to determine whether the trait reflects common ancestry. We sequenced the complete mitochondrial cytochromebgene for 19 cichlids representing six sections of ‘Cichlasoma,’ and representatives of other Neotropical Cichlidae. Additional cichlid, and noncichlid outgroup sequences were included for a total of 22 taxa. The molecular phylogeny supports the recognition of the section ‘C.(Thoricthys)’ as a natural group, and we place those cichlids in the genusThorichthys.The phylogeny also depicts ‘C.(Amphilophus)’ as paraphyletic, with substratum-sifters and generalized predators forming separate nonsister clades. We recommend that the substratum-sifting clade of the section ‘C.(Amphilophus)’ be placed in the resurrected genusAstatheros.The generalized predator clade of ‘C.(Amphilophus)’ contains only two species, ‘C. (A.) citrinellum’ and ‘C. (A.) labiatum,’ which we place in the genusAmphilophus.The phylogenetic hypotheses generated indicate that the substratum-sifting generaThorichthysandAmphilophusdo not share a common ancestor. Reconstruction of the evolution of substratum-sifting is equivocal, requiring either the independent evolution of the trait on two separate occasions or its presence in a more inclusive clade and subsequent loss in nonsubstratum sifting species.  相似文献

The fine structure of the dental enamel was intensively examined in the Family Callitrichidae.Leontopithecus rosalia has the nonserial pattern, butCallimico goeldii andSaguinus midas appear more or less modified from the typical nonserial pattern asSaimiri sciureus has (see Figs. 1 & 5). On the other hand,Callithrix jacchus andCebuella pygmaea attain to the primitive stage of the multiserial pattern (see Figs. 4 & 6). So far as the structural patterns of the dental enamel are concerned, a serial trend is confirmed in the Callitrichidae; extending from the genusLeontopithecus through the generaCallimico andSaguinus to the generaCallithrix andCebuella. The genusSaguinus shows extremely wide interspecific variation in the fine structure of the dental enamel, ranging fromS. leucopus with the most primitive features toS. bicolor with the most advanced (see Figs. 2 & 3). The rows of enamel prisms are slightly twisted mesiodistally in the former species, but strongly folded in the latter. This reflects transitional stages from the nonserial pattern to the multiserial. As a whole, however, the genusSaguinus is still regarded as nonserial. Thus, there is a slight, but important gap between the genusSaguinus andCallithrix, as shown by the decussation of clusters (see Fig. 5), as well as by other characters.  相似文献

Summary Species of the generaAshbya, Eremothecium, Holleya, andNematospora were compared from extent of divergence in a 580-nucleotide region near the 5 end of the large subunit (26S) ribosomal DNA gene. The four genera are closely related and comprise a subclade of the hemiascomycetes. Because the taxa show little divergence, it is proposed that all be placed in the genusEremothecium. This paper investigates interspecies relationships within the genusAcomys(spiny mice) by analyzing entire mitochondrial cytochromebgene (1141 bp). This gene provides strong phylogenetic signal, as shown by high support of the topology obtained (bootstrap value and RNA support number). The phylogeny is congruent with inferences from allozymes for the species considered. Controversial taxonomy ofAcomys cahirinus, dimidiatus, airensis,andignitusis clarified, with their specific ranks confirmed on the basis of tree topology and nucleotide distances. We report DNA sequence variation in 861 bp of the mitochondrial cytochromeb gene from 10 species of the dasyurid marsupial subfamily Phascogalinae (including the New Guinean genusMurexia) and an outgroup planigale (Planigale ingrami). Phylogenetic analyses of these sequences indicate that (1) the subfamily consists of three major clades corresponding to (a)Phascogale, (b) AustralianAntechinus, and (c) New Guinean Antechinus andMurexia; (2) Antechinus habbema constitutes the earliest branch of the New Guinean clade; and (3); Antechinus melanurus and A. naso are sister species within the New Guinean clade. Among Australian antechnuses,A. stuartii andA. swainsonii are more closely related to each other than either is toA. flavipes, a result that is seemingly at odds with all previous systematic studies. Although resolution is limited, it appears thatAntechnius andMurexia species form a clade to the exclusion ofPhascogale. This relationship suggests that male semelparity is not a strong synapomorphy for Australian antechinuses and phascogales, despite its apparent physiological similarity in the two groups.To whom correspondence should be addressed.  相似文献

Nucleotide sequences of the small-subunit (SSU) ribosomal DNA were determined forPelvetia babingtonii, P. canaliculate, Pelvetiopsis limitata, andAscophyllum nodosum in the family Fucaceae. A total of 1755 positions were aligned for the whole sequence. The positional differences in the primary structure among the taxa ranged from 16 to 30 nucleotide changes in pairwise comparisons. There was a minimum divergence betweenPs. limitata andP. babingtonii while a maximum betweenPs. limitata andP. canaliculata. The SSU rDNA trees showed that the genusPelvetia was not monophyletic and the genusPelvetiopsis was not closely related toPelvetia. Our results suggest that the taxonomic revision of the genusPelvetia as well as the family Fucaceae is needed based on detailed morphological observations.  相似文献

16S rDNA sequences of strains ofRhodoferax fermentans were analyzed and compared with those of species of the generaRubrivivax andRhodocyclus. Approximately 1.5-kb fragments of 16S rDNA from crude cell lysates were amplified by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequenced directly by usingTth DNA polymerase with the linear PCR sequencing protocol, followed by on-line detection with an automated laser fluorescent DNA sequencer. Pairwise sequence comparisons and distance matrix tree analysis showed thatRhodoferax fermentans, Rubrivivax gelatinosus, andRhodocyclus species belong to three separate lineages within the beta subclass of theProteobacteria, thereby confirming the phylogenetic validity of the genusRhodoferax, as well as of the generaRubrivivax andRhodocyclus.  相似文献

We have analyzed the phylogenetic relationships of 52 species representing all defined species groups (J. J. Scheel, 1990, Atlas of Killifishes of the Old World, 448 pp.) of the African aplocheiloid fish generaAphyosemionandFundulopanchaxin order to examine their interrelationships and to reveal trends of karyotypic evolution. The data set comprised 785 total nucleotides from the mitochondrial 12S rRNA and cytochromebgenes. The molecular-based topologies analyzed by both maximum parsimony and neighbor-joining support the monophyly of most previously defined species groups within these two killifish genera. The genusAphyosemionis monophyletic except for the nested position ofFundulopanchax kunzi(batesigroup; subgenusRaddaella) within this clade, suggesting that this taxon was improperly assigned toFundulopanchax.The remainingFundulopanchaxspecies sampled were supported as being monophyletic in most analyses. Relationships among the species groups in both genera were not as strongly supported, suggesting that further data will be required to resolve these relationships. Additional sampling from the 16S rRNA gene allowed further resolution of relationships withinFundulopanchax,more specifically identifying the nonannualscheeligroup as the basal lineage of this otherwise annual genus. Chromosomal evolution withinAphyosemionhas been episodic, with the evolution of a reducedn= 9–10 metacentric complement having occurred in multiple, independent lineages. Polarity of chromosomal reductions within theelegansspecies group appears to support previous hypotheses concerning mechanisms of karyotypic change within the genusAphyosemion.  相似文献
