A dc cylindrical coaxial glow discharge with an inner grid anode has been studied. The region between the two electrodes is seen dark, while a brightly glowing region forms inside the grid anode up to the center. The current-voltage characteristic of a dc cylindrical glow discharge in nitrogen is similar to that of a normal glow discharge, while the normal glow discharge voltage decreases with increasing pressure. The minimum plasma potentials are observed in the hollow cathode region due to the accumulation of electrons at the back of the grid anode. At the center, some of the passed electrons are converged, so their potential is decreased. These electrons have a sufficient time to be redistributed to form one group with a Maxwellian electron energy distribution function. The electron temperature measured by electric probes varies from 1.6 to 3.6 eV, while the plasma density varies from 3.9 × 1016 to 7 × 1013 m−3, depending on the discharge current and probe position. The plasma density increases as the electrons move radially from the grid toward the central region, while their temperature decreases.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental studies of electron vortex bunches in a cold ion-beam plasma consisting of strongly magnetized electrons and a beam of almost free positive ions. The existence of electron vortex bunches was detected from local minima of the electric potential on surfaces perpendicular to the magnetic field lines. It is found that the vortices have the form of magnetic-field-aligned filaments, in which electrons rotate with a velocity significantly exceeding both the velocity of the vortex as a whole and the electron velocity in the ambient plasma. It is shown that, in a sufficiently strong magnetic field, the accumulation of electrons in the vortices terminates when the condition for the longitudinal confinement of electrons by the electric field fails to hold.  相似文献

The influence of a transverse magnetic field on the characteristics of the positive column of a planar low-pressure discharge is studied theoretically. The motion of magnetized electrons is described in the framework of a continuous-medium model, while the ion motion in the ambipolar electric field is described by means of a kinetic equation. Using mathematical transformations, the problem is reduced to a secondorder ordinary differential equation, from which the spatial distribution of the potential is found in an analytic form. The spatial distributions of the plasma density, mean plasma velocity, and electric potential are calculated, the ion velocity distribution function at the plasma boundary is found, and the electron energy as a function of the magnetic field is determined. It is shown that, as the magnetic field rises, the electron energy increases, the distributions of the plasma density and mean plasma velocity become asymmetric, the maximum of the plasma density is displaced in the direction of the Ampère force, and the ion flux in this direction becomes substantially larger than the counter-directed ion flux.  相似文献

Three-dimensional images of the undercoat structure on the cytoplasmic surface of the upper cell membrane of normal rat kidney fibroblast (NRK) cells and fetal rat skin keratinocytes were reconstructed by electron tomography, with 0.85-nm-thick consecutive sections made approximately 100 nm from the cytoplasmic surface using rapidly frozen, deeply etched, platinum-replicated plasma membranes. The membrane skeleton (MSK) primarily consists of actin filaments and associated proteins. The MSK covers the entire cytoplasmic surface and is closely linked to clathrin-coated pits and caveolae. The actin filaments that are closely apposed to the cytoplasmic surface of the plasma membrane (within 10.2 nm) are likely to form the boundaries of the membrane compartments responsible for the temporary confinement of membrane molecules, thus partitioning the plasma membrane with regard to their lateral diffusion. The distribution of the MSK mesh size as determined by electron tomography and that of the compartment size as determined from high speed single-particle tracking of phospholipid diffusion agree well in both cell types, supporting the MSK fence and MSK-anchored protein picket models.  相似文献

Localization and organization of actin in melanophores   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1       下载免费PDF全文
Melanophores of the angelfish, Pterophyllum scalare, were studied in an attempt to demonstrate the existence of actin in these cells although microfilaments had previously not been found. By use of a variety of procedures, including immunofluorescence microscopy of intact and detergent-extracted cells, transmission electron microscopy, high voltage electron microscopy of whole-mount preparations, and labeling with heavy meromyosin-subfragment 1, the presence of a loose cortical mesh of actin filaments is demonstrated. In addition, a more parallel array of filaments is detected in microspike- and microvillus-like surface projections. There seem to be no changes in the arrangement of these filaments as a function of the state of pigment distribution. No actin filaments could be found in association with pigment granules or microtubules in more central cell portions. For reasons presently unknown, the preservation of the cortical filament network in lysed cell preparations depends strongly on the presence of an intact microtubular system. The involvement of this subplasmalemmal actin filament network in pigment granule transport remains unclear.  相似文献

Fast neutral atom and molecule beams have been studied, the beams being produced in a vacuum chamber at nitrogen, argon, or helium pressure of 0.1–10 Pa due to charge-exchange collisions of ions accelerated in the sheath between the glow discharge plasma and a negative grid immersed therein. From a flat grid, two broad beams of molecules with continuous distribution of their energy from zero up to e(U + U c ) (where U is voltage between the grid and the vacuum chamber and U c is cathode fall of the discharge) are propagating in opposite directions. The beam propagating from the concave surface of a 0.2-m-diameter grid is focused within a 10-mm-diameter spot on the target surface. When a 0.2-m-diameter 0.2-m-high cylindrical grid covered by end disks and composed of parallel 1.5-mm-diameter knitting needles spaced by 4.5 mm is immersed in the plasma, the accelerated ions pass through the gaps between the needles, turn inside the grid into fast atoms or molecules, and escape from the grid through the gaps on its opposite side. The Doppler shift of spectral lines allows for measuring the fast atom energy, which corresponds to the potential difference between the plasma inside the chamber and the plasma produced as a result of charge-exchange collisions inside the cylindrical grid.  相似文献

Results are presented from numerical simulations of the dynamics of beam instability in a finite plasma volume (plasma-filled cavity) in a weak magnetic field. It is shown that, in such a system, the low group velocity of the plasma waves excited by an electron beam can result in the generation and amplification of an electric field; strong electron heating in the axial region; and, as a consequence, the generation of a high potential at the axis. The quasistatic radial electric field so produced accelerates ions toward the periphery of the plasma column, forming a directed ion beam with an energy much higher than the thermal energy of the bulk plasma electrons.  相似文献

It is shown that plasma parameters, such as the electron density, electron temperature, and plasma potential, in multidipole discharge plasma can be controlled by a negatively biased movable metal plate. Here, plasma is produced in the target region by a flux of energetic electrons coming from the source region of a double plasma device. Further, the thickness of the ion sheath formed in front of the biased metal plate varies depending on its axial position inside the cage.  相似文献

An exact solution is derived to the equations of vortex electron anisotropic hydrodynamics for a plasma that is unstable against the Weibel instability driven by the electron temperature anisotropy. This solution describes saturation of the Weibel instability in the single-mode regime with an arbitrary wavelength and corresponds to a standing helical wave of magnetic perturbations in which the amplitude of the generated magnetic field varies periodically over time. The longitudinal and transverse (with respect to the rotating anisotropy axis) plasma temperatures are subject to the same periodic variations. In this case, the maximum magnetic field energy can be on the order of the plasma thermal energy.

Results are presented from experiments on the injection of solid pellets into a plasma heated by an electron beam in the GOL-3 device. For this purpose, two pellet injectors were installed in the device. The target plasma with a density of ~1015 cm?3 was produced in a solenoid with a field of 4.8 T and was heated by a highpower electron beam with an electron energy of ~1 MeV, a duration of ~7 s, and a total energy of 120–150 kJ. Before heating, the pellet was injected into the center of the plasma column transversely to the magnetic field. The injection point was located at a distance of 6.5 or 2 m from the input magnetic mirror. Polyethylene pellets with a mass of 0.1–1 mg and lithium-deuteride pellets with a mass of 0.02–0.5 mg were used. A few microseconds after the electron beam starts to be injected into the plasma, a dense plasma bunch is formed. In the initial stage of expansion, the plasma bunch remains spherically symmetric. The plasma at the periphery of the bunch is then heated and becomes magnetized. Next, the dense plasma expands along the magnetic field with a velocity on the order of 300 km/s. A comparison of the measured parameters with calculations by a hydrodynamic model shows that, in order to provide such a high expansion velocity, the total energy density deposited in the pellet must be ~1 kJ/cm2. This value substantially exceeds the energy density yielded by the target plasma; i.e., the energy is concentrated across the magnetic field onto a dense plasma bunch produced from the evaporated particle.  相似文献

Nonquasineutral electron current filaments with the azimuthal magnetic field are considered that arise due to the generation of electron vorticity in the initial (dissipative) stage of evolution of a current-carrying plasma, when the Hall number is small (σB/en e c ? 1) because of the low values of the plasma conductivity and magnetic field strength. Equilibrium filamentary structures with both zero and nonzero net currents are considered. Structures with a zero net current type form on time scales of t < t sk = (r 0ω pe /c)2 t st, where t sk is the skin time, t st is the typical time of electron-ion collisions, and r 0 is the radius of the filament. It is shown that, in nonquasineutral filaments in which the current is carried by electrons drifting in the crossed electric (E r ) and magnetic (B θ) fields, ultrarelativistic electron beams on the typical charge-separation scale r B = B/(4πen e ) (the so-called magnetic Debye radius) can be generated. It is found that, for comparable electron currents, the characteristic electron energy in filaments with a nonzero net current is significantly lower than that in zero-net-current filaments that form on typical time scales of t < t sk. This is because, in the latter type of filaments, the oppositely directed electron currents repel one another; as a result, both the density and velocity of electrons increase near the filament axis, where the velocities of relativistic electrons are maximum. Filaments with a zero net current can emit X rays with photon energies ? ω up to 10 MeV. The electron velocity distributions in filaments, the X-ray emission spectra, and the total X-ray yield per unit filament length are calculated as functions of the current and the electron number density in the filament. Analytical estimates of the characteristic lifetime of a radiating filament and the typical size of the radiating region as functions of the plasma density are obtained. The results of calculations are compared with the available experimental data.  相似文献

A nonisothermal model of the positive column allowing for electron energy balance is analyzed. The influence of the axial magnetic field on the characteristics of the cylindrical positive column of a low-pressure discharge is investigated in the hydrodynamic approximation. It is shown that the magnetic field affects the plasma density distribution, plasma velocity, and electron energies. The radial dependences of the plasma density, electron energy, and plasma velocity, as well as the azimuthal velocities of electrons and ions, are calculated for helium at different values of the magnetic field strength. It is established that inertia should be taken into account in the equations for the azimuthal motion of electrons and ions. The results obtained in the hydrodynamic approximation differ significantly from those obtained in the framework of the common diffusion model of the positive column in the axial magnetic field. It is shown that the distributions of the plasma density and radial plasma velocity in the greater part of the positive column tend to those obtained in the diffusion approximation at higher values of the axial magnetic field and gas density, although substantial differences remain in the near-wall region.  相似文献

Depending on the angle θ between the wave vector and the magnetic field, helicons are conventionally divided into two branches: proper helicons (H mode), propagating at small θ, and Trivelpiece–Gould waves (TG mode), propagating at large θ. The latter are close to potential waves and have a significant electric component along the external magnetic field. It is believed that it is these waves that provide electron heating in helicon discharges. There is also commonly believed that current antennas, widely used to ignite helicon discharges, excite essentially nonpotential Н modes, which then transform into TG modes due to plasma inhomogeneity. In this work, it is demonstrated that electromagnetic energy can also be efficiently introduced in plasma by means of TG modes.  相似文献

Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) preparation techniques have been successfully adapted for visualization of the internal and external ultrastructure of Mougeotia filaments and protoplasts. FESEM of the innermost layer of cell wall in Mougeotia filaments revealed that microfibrils are deposited parallel to each other in an interconnected mesh and are oriented perpendicular to the direction of elongation. For the first time, the surface of protoplasts at different stages of regeneration has been observed using FESEM. Nascent microfibril deposition occurs between 1 and 2 h after isolation and arrangement of these microfibrils is random for at least 8 h. Observation of the inner surface of the plasma membrane in burst protoplasts showed that microtubules are not strongly attached for at least 3 h after protoplast isolation.  相似文献

The propagation of a nonlinear right-hand polarized wave along an external magnetic field in subcritical plasma in the electron cyclotron resonance region is studied using numerical simulations. It is shown that a small-amplitude plasma wave excited in low-density plasma is unstable against modulation instability with a modulation period equal to the wavelength of the excited wave. The modulation amplitude in this case increases with decreasing detuning from the resonance frequency. The simulations have shown that, for large-amplitude waves of the laser frequency range propagating in plasma in a superstrong magnetic field, the maximum amplitude of the excited longitudinal electric field increases with the increasing external magnetic field and can reach 30% of the initial amplitude of the electric field in the laser wave. In this case, the energy of plasma electrons begins to substantially increase already at magnetic fields significantly lower than the resonance value. The laser energy transferred to plasma electrons in a strong external magnetic field is found to increase severalfold compared to that in isotropic plasma. It is shown that this mechanism of laser radiation absorption depends only slightly on the electron temperature.  相似文献

Two-dimensional spatial distributions of the electric field and current density in a non-self-sustained discharge controlled by a fast electron beam were calculated in the quasineutral plasma approximation. The calculations were carried out for a gas-discharge chamber with an antistreamer electrode grid placed in parallel to the output window of the ionizer. The voltage drop near the grid surface that appears due to the inhomogeneity of the spatial distribution of the current density was calculated. The fraction of the discharge current that passes the grid and flows onto the foil separating the vacuum volume of the ionizer from the gas-discharge chamber was estimated. The dependence of the calculated values on the geometric parameters of the electrode grid and its position with respect to the output of the ionizer was analyzed.  相似文献

Cilia on the ventral surface of the hypotrich ciliate Euplotes are clustered into polykinetids or compound ciliary organelles, such as cirri or oral membranelles, used in locomotion and prey capture. A single polykinetid may contain more than 150 individual cilia; these emerge from basal bodies held in a closely spaced array within a scaffold or framework structure that has been referred to as a basal‐body “cage”. Cage structures were isolated free of cilia and basal bodies; the predominant component of such cages was found on polyacrylamide gels to be a 45‐kDa polypeptide. Antisera were raised against this protein band and used for immunolocalizations at the light and electron microscope levels. Indirect immunofluorescence revealed the 45‐kDa polypeptide to be localized exclusively to the bases of the ventral polykinetids. Immunogold staining of thin sections of intact cells further localized this reactivity to filaments of a double‐layered dense lattice that appears to link adjoining basal bodies into ordered arrays within each polykinetid. Scanning electron microscopy of isolated cages reveals the lower or “basal” cage layer to be a fine lacey meshwork supporting the basal bodies at their proximal ends; adjoining basal bodies are held at their characteristic spacing by filaments of an upper or “medial” cage layer. The isolated cage thus resembles a miniature test‐tube rack, able to accommodate varying arrangements of basal‐body rows, depending on the particular type of polykinetid. Because of its clear and specific localization to the basal‐body cages in Euplotes, we have termed this novel 45‐kDa protein “cagein”.  相似文献

A mechanism is proposed that can lead to radial ion acceleration in a plasma discharge excited by an electron beam in a relatively weak longitudinal magnetic field. The mechanism operates as follows. The beam generates an azimuthally asymmetric slow potential wave, which traps electrons. Trapped magnetized electrons drift radially with a fairly high velocity under the combined action of the azimuthal wave field (which is constant for them) and a relatively weak external longitudinal magnetic field. The radial electron flux generates a radial charge-separation electric field, which accelerates unmagnetized plasma ions in the radial direction. The ion flux densities and energies achievable in experiments with kiloelectronvolt electron beams in magnetic fields of up to 100 G are estimated.  相似文献
