An elementary theory of the cathode region at the high-voltage stage of an arc discharge is proposed. The theory is based on the balance equations for the particles in an active plasma layer, the power balance at the cathode, and the equation for the Richardson-Dushman electron emission with allowance for the Schottky effect. The most characteristic features of this type of discharge are considered. A non-Langmuir cathode sheath model is proposed for a low-voltage arc on a tungsten electrode.  相似文献

Results of experiments on the detection of suprathermal electron beams in the plasma of a highcurrent low-inductance vacuum spark by means of space-resolved spectral X-ray polarimetry are presented. It is shown that the observed polarization of bremsstrahlung may be caused by an ~100-keV electron beam propagating along the discharge axis from the pinching region toward the anode. The influence of the discharge initiation conditions on the parameters of the generated electron beams is analyzed.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of X-ray source spatial distribution measurements of a low-inductance vacuum spark discharge based on the analysis of helium-like ions spectral lines structure. The intensities of spectral lines of FeXXV ions and dielectronic satellites with spatial resolution were measured. The polarization of satellite line 1s2p 2 2 D 5/2-1s 22p 2 P 3/2 was found. The obtained dependence of maximum plasma parameters during micropinch events from initial plasma line density in discharge corresponds to the radiative collapse model.  相似文献

Bacterial numbers, putrescine and cadaverine concentrations and pH were measured at regular intervals during the chill storage of vacuum packed beef. Odours on opening the packs were also assessed. Cadaverine concentration increased more rapidly than that of putrescine and measurable increases were evident before maximum bacterial numbers were attained and before any permanent off-odours were detected. Diamine concentrations correlated better with total viable count (TVC) than with counts of Gram negative organisms.  相似文献

Structure formation and dimerization are concerted processes in the refolding of Arc repressor. The integrity of secondary structure in the transition state of Arc refolding has been investigated here by determining the changes in equilibrium stability and refolding/unfolding kinetics for a set of Ala --> Gly mutations at residues that are solvent-exposed in the native Arc dimer. At some sites, reduced stability was caused primarily by faster unfolding, indicating that secondary structure at these positions is largely absent in the transition state. However, most of the Ala --> Gly substitutions in the alpha-helices of Arc and a triple mutant in the beta-sheet also resulted in decreased refolding rates, in some cases, accounting for the major fraction of thermodynamic destabilization. Overall, these results suggest that some regions of native secondary structure are present but incompletely formed in the transition state of Arc refolding and dimerization. Consolidation of this secondary structure, like close packing of the hydrophobic core, seems to occur later in the folding process. On average, Phi(F) values for the Ala --> Gly mutations were significantly larger than Phi(F) values previously determined for alanine-substitution mutants, suggesting that backbone interactions in the transition state may be stronger than side chain interactions. Mutations causing significant reductions in the Arc refolding rate were found to cluster in the central turn of alpha-helix A and in the first two turns of alpha-helix B. In the Arc dimer, these elements pack together in a compact structure, which might serve as nucleus for further folding.  相似文献

The breaking ability of a vacuum arc interrupter with a uniform transverse magnetic field formed by a system of permanent magnets was investigated experimentally. The vacuum interrupter with a 0.5-μF shunting capacitor switched off a dc current of up to 150 A at magnetic fields of 100–180 mT. At magnetic fields of 120–160 mT, the breaking ability of the vacuum interrupter was increased to 300 A by introducing a nonuniformity in the magnetic field distribution near the contact surface.  相似文献

The thermal-ionizational instability that gives rise to axial and azimuthal inhomogeneities in the electron temperature and electron density in the form of striations and filaments in a multicharged plasma of a Z-pinch is studied in the linear approximation. Background

Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals play a critical role in the diagnosis of epilepsy. Multichannel EEGs contain more information than do single-channel EEGs. Automatic detection algorithms for spikes or seizures have traditionally been implemented on single-channel EEG, and algorithms for multichannel EEG are unavailable.

Methodology

This study proposes a physiology-based detection system for epileptic seizures that uses multichannel EEG signals. The proposed technique was tested on two EEG data sets acquired from 18 patients. Both unipolar and bipolar EEG signals were analyzed. We employed sample entropy (SampEn), statistical values, and concepts used in clinical neurophysiology (e.g., phase reversals and potential fields of a bipolar EEG) to extract the features. We further tested the performance of a genetic algorithm cascaded with a support vector machine and post-classification spike matching.

Principal Findings

We obtained 86.69% spike detection and 99.77% seizure detection for Data Set I. The detection system was further validated using the model trained by Data Set I on Data Set II. The system again showed high performance, with 91.18% detection of spikes and 99.22% seizure detection.

Conclusion

We report a de novo EEG classification system for seizure and spike detection on multichannel EEG that includes physiology-based knowledge to enhance the performance of this type of system.  相似文献

It is currently not possible to record electromyographic (EMG) signals from many locations concurrently inside the muscle in a single wire electrode system. We developed a thin-film wire electrode system for multichannel intramuscular EMG recordings. The system was fabricated using a micromachining process, with a silicon wafer as production platform for polyimide-based electrodes. In the current prototype, the flexible polymer structure is 220 microm wide, 10 microm thick, and 1.5 cm long, and it has eight circular platinum-platinum chloride recording sites of 40-microm diameter distributed along the front and back surfaces with 1,500-microm intersite spacing. The system prototype was tested in six experiments where the electrode was implanted into the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle of rabbits, perpendicular to the pennation angle of the muscle fibers. Asynchronous motor unit activity was induced by eliciting the withdrawal reflex or sequential crushes of the sciatic nerve using a pair of forceps. Sixty-seven motor units were identified from these recordings. In the bandwidth 200 Hz to 5 kHz, the peak-to-peak amplitude of the action potentials of the detected motor units was 75 +/- 12 muV and the root mean square of the noise was 1.6 +/- 0.4 muV. The noise level and amplitude of the action potentials were similar for measures separated by up to 40 min. The experimental tests demonstrated that thin film is a promising technology for a new type of flexible-wire intramuscular EMG recording system with multiple detection sites.  相似文献

The spatial structure and dynamics of the plasma of a high-current vacuum spark is investigated using pulsed shadowgraphy. Anisotropy of the plasma outflow from a micropinch region has been revealed. The existence of cavities in the sausage-type instability in the final stage of pinching has been recorded. A study of the process of implosion of a cylindrical tungsten wire array by electrical and optical methods shows that it involves two phases. In the first phase, the plasma is produced from the dense wire cores under the action of the heat flux from the current-carrying plasma. This plasma then fills the internal space of the liner array. The measured inductance of the liner and its visible diameter vary only slightly in this phase. During the second phase, the total material of the liner is compressed toward the axis and the inductance of the discharge gap increases. The process of the implosion of wire arrays is studied by analyzing the electric parameters (current and voltage) of the load in the Angara-5-1 facility. The time behavior of the load inductance, the average current radius, and the start time of the liner compression are determined. The compression start time determined from the visible size of the liner is found to coincide with that determined from electric measurements. The compression ratio of the liner in terms of the average current radius turns out to be lower than that measured by optical and X-ray diagnostics. The reason is that, by the instant of maximum compression, only a portion of the current flows at the periphery of the initial wire array.  相似文献

Processes occurring in the low-temperature plasma of extended quasi-stationary arc discharges in air between graphite electrodes are investigated. Along with the conventional (constricted) discharge geometry, other discharge modes—diffuse (distributed) and diffuse-constricted—are studied. Contraction, stratification, and shunting processes are considered. The structure of the anode space charge sheath of a vacuum arc is studied with allowance for the dependence of the negative anode fall on the ratio of the directed electron velocity v 0 to the electron thermal velocity v T for different values of the flux density of atoms evaporated from the anode. Poisson’s equation for the sheath potential is solved taking into account the electron space charge, fast cathode ions, and slow ions produced due to the ionization of atoms evaporated from the anode. The kinetic equation for atoms and slow anode ions is solved with allowance for ionization in the collision integral. Analytic solutions for the velocity distribution functions of atoms and slow ions and the density of slow ions are obtained. It is shown that the flux of slow ions substantially affects the spatial distribution of the electric field E(z) in the sheath. As the flux density increases, the nonmonotonic dependence E(z) transforms into a monotonic one and the sheath narrows. For a given flux of evaporated atoms Πa, the increase in the ratio of the directed electron velocity to the electron thermal velocity leads again to a nonmonotonic dependence E(z). As z increases, the electric field first increases, passes through the maximum, decreases, passes through the minimum E min, and then again increases toward the anode. There is a limiting value of the ratio (v 0/v T )* at which E min(z) vanishes. At v 0/v T > (v 0/V T )*, the condition for the existence of a steady-state sheath is violated and the profiles of the field and potential in the sheath become oscillating. The dependence of (v 0/v T )* on the flux density of evaporated atoms Π a is obtained. It is shown that the domain of existence of steady-state solutions in the sheath broadens with increasing Π a .  相似文献

Experimental study of a glow discharge with electrostatic confinement of electrons is carried out in the vacuum chamber volume V ≈ 0.12 m3 of a technological system “Bulat-6” in argon pressure range 0.005–5 Pa. The chamber is used as a hollow cathode of the discharge with the inner surface area S ≈ 1.5 m2. It is equipped with two feedthroughs, which make it possible to immerse in the discharge plasma interchangeable anodes with surface area S a ranging from ∼0.001 to ∼0.1 m2, as well as floating electrodes isolated from both the chamber and the anode. Dependences of the cathode fall U c = 0.4−3 kV on the pressure p at a constant discharge current in the range I = 0.2−2 A proved that aperture of the electron escape out of the electrostatic trap is equal to the sum S o = S a + S f of the anode surface S a and the floating electrode surface S f . The sum S o defines the lower limit p o of the pressure range, in which U c is independent of p. At p < p o the cathode fall U c grows up dramatically, when the pressure decreases, and the pressure p tends to the limit p ex, which is in fact the discharge extinction pressure. At pp ex electrons emitted by the cathode and the first generation of fast electrons produced in the cathode sheath spend almost all their energy up to 3 keV on heating the anode and the floating electrode up to 600–800°C and higher. In this case the gas in the chamber is being ionized by the next generations of electrons produced in the cathode sheath, their energy being one order of magnitude lower. When S a < (2m/M)1/2 S, where m is the electron mass and M is the ion mass, the anode may be additionally heated by plasma electrons accelerated by the anode fall of potential U a up to 0.5 kV.  相似文献

A multi-reception strategy with extended GRAPPA is proposed in this work to improve MR imaging performance at ultra-high field MR systems with limited receiver channels. In this method, coil elements are separated to two or more groups under appropriate grouping criteria. Those groups are enabled in sequence for imaging first, and then parallel acquisition is performed to compensate for the redundant scan time caused by the multiple receptions. To efficiently reconstruct the data acquired from elements of each group, a specific extended GRAPPA was developed. This approach was evaluated by using a 16-element head array on a 7 Tesla whole-body MRI scanner with 8 receive channels. The in-vivo experiments demonstrate that with the same scan time, the 16-element array with twice receptions and acceleration rate of 2 can achieve significant SNR gain in the periphery area of the brain and keep nearly the same SNR in the center area over an eight-element array, which indicates the proposed multi-reception strategy and extended GRAPPA are feasible to improve image quality for MRI systems with limited receive channels. This study also suggests that it is advantageous for a MR system with N receiver channels to utilize a coil array with more than N elements if an appropriate acquisition strategy is applied.  相似文献

The processes of ion flux formation in the plasma of a high-current vacuum spark were investigated experimentally. It is shown that multicharged ions are generated in the neck formed in the erosion products of the inner electrode. The plasma escaping from the neck region plays a role of a piston dragging particles of the cold peripheral plasma into ambient space. As the discharge current increases, the flux of the evaporated electrode material grows, the degree of ionization of the plasma produced decreases, and the efficiency of plasma heating caused by the pinching effect is reduced.  相似文献
