In a recent entomopathogenic nematode (EPN) survey in the North West province of South Africa, Oscheius safricana was isolated from soil samples using the Galleria mellonella bait method. Morphological studies using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, molecular analysis of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), D2\D3 expansion segments of the large subunit rDNA gene (LSU) and concise small subunit rDNA gene (SSU), revealed that it was a new species, described herein as Oscheius safricana n. sp. Oscheius safricana n. sp. was characterised by unique ribosomal DNA sequences, amphidelphic reproduction, six separate lips each two bristle-like sensillae, narrow pharynx, valvated basal bulb, lateral field with four lines, leptoderan and closed bursa and fused spicules. This EPN belongs to the group Insectivorus and is morphologically closest to O. necromenus, O. chongmingensis and O. carolinensis. Oscheius safricana n. sp. is symbiotically associated with Serratia marcescens strain MCB.

Spirocamallanus cricotus sp. n. (= S. pereirai, in part) and S. halitrophus sp. n. are described from marine fishes of the northern Gulf of Mexico. Spirocamallanus cricotus has a ledge anterior to the basal ring in the buccal capsule, similar spicules with a ratio of 1:1.4 to 2.1, 3 pre- and 5 postcloacal papillae, and 8 rectal glands in the female; S. halitrophus lacks the ledge and possesses dissimilar spicules with a ratio of 1:1.3 to 1.8, 3 pre- and 6 postcloacal papillae, and 4 rectal glands in the female.  相似文献

Two new nematode species, Beaninema nayaritense n. gen., n. sp. and Rhabdochona xiphophori n. sp., are described on the basis of the specimens recovered from the gall bladder and intestine of 2 fishes, Cichlasoma beani (Jordan) (Cichlidae, Perciformes) and Xiphophorus sp. (Poeciliidae, Cyprinodontiformes), respectively, from Mexico. The monotypic genus Beaninema differs from other rhabdochonid genera mainly in the presence of large conical teeth in the middle of the prostom. Rhabdochona xiphophori is characterized mainly by a unique structure of the prostom (presence of 6 anterior teeth; dorsal and ventral teeth unusually broad, with 2 lateral horns) and the shape of the deirids (bifurcated, with markedly long base).  相似文献

In this study, we describe 2 new species of Ascarophis van Beneden, 1871 (Nematoda: Cystidicolidae), found in fishes from southern Chile. Ascarophis carvajali n. sp. was found in Austrolycus depressiceps and Patagonotothen cornucola, whereas Ascarophis draconi n. sp. was taken from Champsocephalus gunnari. These new Ascarophis species differ from other species in a combination of several morphometric and morphological characteristics. Although A. carvajali n. sp. was morphologically close to Ascarophis minuta, the new species has a larger ratio between glandular and muscular esophagus, filaments on both egg poles, and a shorter right spicule than A. minuta. Ascarophis draconi n. sp. was morphologically similar to Ascarophis adioryx and Ascarophisfiliformis. However, A. adioryx has eggs without filaments, a smaller ratio between glandular and muscular esophagus length, and a smaller ratio between left and right spicule lengths in contrast to A. draconi n. sp., whereas A. filiformis has a shorter glandular esophagus and left spicule length than A. draconi n. sp. Only 1 Ascarophis species has been recorded in a single fish from Chile (i.e., Ascarophis sebastodis in Sebastes capensis). Consequently, this study constitutes not only new species and records of Ascarophis in fishes from Chile, but also new records for the Pacific coast of South America.  相似文献

A new Steinernema species was isolated from three different sandy soil samples along the Platamona Beach, in the north-west coast of Sardinia Island (Italy). This new species is characterized by the following morphological characters: infective third-stage juvenile with a body length of 866 ± 61 (767-969) μm, distance from head to excretory pore of 63 ± 2.7 (59-68) μm, tail length of 81 ± 3.2 (76-89) μm, ratio E (%) 77 ± 3.4 (68-83); male tail with a mucron only in the second generation, spicule length of 66 ± 1.4 (64-67) μm and gubernaculum length of 44 ± 1.4 (43-46) μm in the first generation male; female of first generation with a slight vulval protrusion and ratio D (%) of 53 ± 4.0 (47-63). The new species differs distinctly from the related species (S. feltiae, S. kraussei, S. litorale, S. oregonense and S. cholashanense) in some morphometric values such as percentage of hyaline portion, ratios of gubernaculum/spicule length, spicule head length/width. The DNA analyses of the internal transcribed spacers and D2D3 regions show that the studied nematode isolates are a new species. Cross hybridisation tests with S. feltiae, S. kraussei, S. litorale, S. weiseri and S. oregonense showed that these species were reproductively isolated.  相似文献

A new species of entomopathogenic nematode, Steinernema aciari sp. n. was described. It was recovered from a soil sample collected from Haimen town, Shantou district in the eastern coast of Guangdong province, the People's Republic of China during a survey for entomopathogenic nematodes. S. aciari sp. n. belongs to the Steinernema glaseri group. It can be separated from all described Steinernema species by the combined morphological and morphometrical characters of various stages of the nematodes. For male, the new species can be recognized by spicule length (86+/-6.3 microm); spicule tip blunt with a hook-like structure; gubernaculum with a short and Y-shaped cuneus and corpus well-separated posteriorly. For infective juvenile, the combination of the following characters: body length (1113+/-68 microm), distance from anterior end to excretory pore (95+/-3.7 microm), tail length (78+/-5.2 microm), and E % (123+/-7) can be used to differentiate the new species from other nematodes. For female, the tail (conoid with a long mamillate terminus and a distinct postanal swelling) and vulva (slightly protruding from body surface with conspicuous double flapped epiptygma) shapes can be used as diagnostic characters for the new species. The new species can also be distinguished from other Steinernema species by DNA sequences of either a partial 28S rDNA or the internal transcribed spacer regions of rDNA, and from the close related species S. glaseri, Steinernema longicaudum CWL05, and Steinernema guangdongense by cross-breeding test.  相似文献

Steinernema ceratophorum n. sp. was isolated from soil in Liaoning and Jining Provinces of China. Morphological, cross-breeding and DNA studies support the distinctiveness of S. ceratophorum n. sp. in comparison with four morphologically similar Steinernema species: S. affine, S. intermedium, S. riobrave and S. bicornutum. Diagnostic characters include: body length of infective juvenile, juvenile lip region with two horn-like structures and lateral field with six or eight longitudinal ridges; tail tip of first and second generation males lacking mucron; spicules of first generation male curved, dark yellow in colour and 71 µm long; tail tip of first generation female with small mucronate projection; and second generation female with fine mucronate process about 5.5 µm long. In addition, the restriction fragment length pattern (RFLP) of the ITS region of the ribosomal DNA repeat unit is different from other Steinernema spp., and S. ceratophorum n. sp. did not hybridise with S. riobrave, the species with the most similar RFLP.  相似文献

Mesocriconema ornicauda n. sp. and Ogma floridense n. sp. are described from two native habitats of central and northwestern Florida. Mesocriconema ornicauda is closest to M. annulatiforme (De Grisse &Loof, 1967) Loof &De Grisse, 1989, but differs by the shorter stylet of the female (43-50 vs. 54-65 μm) and the moderately conoid tail of the male, which is pointed in M. annulatiforme. Ogma floridense is closest to O. hungaricum (Andrassy, 1972) Siddiqi, 1986. Females differ from those of O. hungaricum by the first of two labial annuli being wider, whereas they are subequal in O. hungaricum. Ogma floridense females differ also by entire or bifid cuticular scales, which are consistently divided into two or four projections in O. hungaricum, the shorter body (360-471 vs. 480-550 μm), the shorter stylet (87-98 vs. 95-100 μm), and the more anteriorly located excretory pore (Rex = 17-19 vs. 21-23).  相似文献

A new haploporid trematode, Culuwiya cichlidorum n. sp., is described from the intestine of the black-belt cichlid Vieja maculicauda (=Cichlasoma maculicauda (Regan)) from the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua. It differs from congeneric species from freshwater and estuarine mugilid, cichlid, and gobiid fishes, previously placed to Saccocoelioides Szidat, 1954, and Carassotrema Park, 1938, in possessing the intestinal ceca reaching up to the posterior half of the testis and a bipartite, swollen external seminal vesicle. The new species also is characterized by a small, pyriform body, a well-developed prepharynx, a large pharynx, extensive vitelline follicles, confluent posterior to the testis that is situated near the posterior extremity, a uterus limited to the pretesticular and postacetabular region, and few, but relatively large, eggs (67-81 x 36-47 microm, i.e., about 12-14% of the body length) and miracidia without eye-spots. Culuwiya cichlidorum is also reported from Tomocichla tuba (Meek) in Nicaragua and species of Cichlasoma, Herichthys, Oreochromis, Parachromis, Petenia, Theraps, and Vieja from Mexico.  相似文献

Atractis marquezi n. sp. from the large intestine of the tortoise Geochelone nigrita is described and illustrated. Atractis Dujardin, 1845, sensu Baker, 1987, is revised to contain only those atractids having a lagonoid spicule. The remaining species of Atractis sensu Baker, 1987, are assigned to Cyrtosomum, Pseudatractis, and Klossinemella. A. marquezi represents the 12th species to be assigned to this genus and is distinguished from other Neotropical species by the distribution pattern of caudal papillae of the male: 2 pairs precloacal, 2 pairs adcloacal, and 6 pairs postcloacal.  相似文献

A new Heterorhabditis species of entomopathogenic nematode was isolated from soil of the Atacama Desert in Chile. The new species is characterized by morphometrics of the infective juvenile (IJ) with length (L)?=?611 (578-666)?μm, head to excretory pore length (EP)?=?115 (101-126)?μm, tail?=?69 (62-79)?μm long, (EP/tail)?×?100 (E%)?=?165 (149-182) and L/maximum body diameter (ratio a)?=?28 (25-31). The male has spicules 45 (40-49)?μm long, gubernaculum 20 (17-22)?μm long and (spicule length/anal body diameter)?×?100 (SW%)?=?205 (179-249). The hermaphroditic adult has shallow cuticular folds immediately anterior and posterior to the vulva, a slight post-anal swelling and a finely rounded tail terminus. Morphologically, H. atacamensis n. sp. resembles H. safricana, H. marelatus, H. downesi and H. amazonensis, but can be distinguished by characters of adult and IJ stages. In particular, for adult males, H. atacamensis n. sp. differs from H. amazonensis by the number and orientation of the genital papillae and from H. downesi by the position of the excretory pore; by the shape of the female tail terminus from H. downesi and by the position of the IJ hemizonid from H. marelatus. Heterorhabditis atacamensis n. sp. is further characterized by internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and D2D3 rDNA sequences, the closest species, H. safricana, being separated by 13?bp across 730?bp of the ITS (incorporating ITS1 (partial sequence), 5.8S (complete sequence), ITS2 (complete sequence)) and 5?bp across 592?bp of the partial 28S (incorporating D2D3) sequence. Helminthological examination of specimens of the freshwater fishes Bryconamericus iheringi Boulenger, 1887 (Characidae) and Jenynsia multidentata (Jenyns, 1842) (Anablepidae), collected from Medina River, Province of Tucuman, Argentina, revealed the presence of 2 species of parasitic nematodes, Rhabdochona fabianae n. sp. and Rhabdochona acuminata (Molin, 1860) (Rhabdochonidae). Rhabdochona fabianae n. sp. was characterized by the presence of 16 anterior teeth in the prostom and filamented eggs in females.
