Ninety-five nonresident girls of a private school volunteered for the study with the teachers' help as well as parental consent. Ages were approximately 8, 9, and 10 years. They were synchronized with diurnal activity from 0730 to 2100 h and nocturnal rest. Fatigue, drowsiness, and attention were self-rated using visual analogue scales; oral temperature was self-measured and a letter cancellation test was performed. Each of these variables was measured at school at 0900, 1100, 1400, and 1600 h on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for two consecutive weeks in 1987 (March 30-April 11) and again in 1989 (March 13-25) when the youngest group had become 10 years old. According to conventional teacher evaluation of learning (learning performance) within each group, three subgroups were formed: top third, middle third, and bottom third. Time series (more than 50,000 data) were analyzed according to several statistical methods, but mainly chronograms with ANOVA. Similar diurnal changes in oral temperature were validated for each group and subgroups. The occurrence of a diurnal change in self-rated variables (fatigue and drowsiness) and score in letter cancellation was age related: no detection in the 8-year-old group (and subgroups) and validation (p less than 0.002) in 9- and 10-year-old groups (and respective subgroups). A good learning performance was associated with a reduced drowsiness in school girls of 9 and 10 years. Age-related, time-of-day differences in drowsiness (when detected) as well as learning performance effect were not associated with observed duration of sleep. Validated changes in self-rated fatigue were close to that of drowsiness. At 0900 h, girls of 9 and 10 years were more tired when belonging to the bottom third than top third subgroup. Whatever the time of day, self-rated attention was greater in the top than in the bottom third for these girls. Differences related to learning performance were validated in each grade. However, best scores were recorded for the bottom third in the 8-year-old group, while best scores were provided by top third subgroups in 10-year-old girls. It seems that in girls around 8 years of age, critical changes can be detected with regard to the (ontogenic?) occurrence of time-of-day differences in a set of psychophysiologic variables as well as influential effects of learning performance on the same variables. Reported finding are compatible with the hypothesis of circadian oscillators working at the level of the cortex of the human brain.  相似文献

Lengths within the cranial base and vault were measured in cephalometric radiographs of 220 boys and 177 girls ranging in age from 0 to 15 years; all these children are participants in The Fels Longitudinal Growth Study. The present study is based on mixed longitudinal data derived from 1640 radiographs for boys and 1260 radiographs for girls. Factor analysis was applied separately for boys and girls for each age group; i.e., 0–3, 4–6, 7–9, 10–12, and 13–15 years. For the 0–3 year age group, two factors were extracted in each sex, whereas four factors were extracted in the rest of the age groups. The factor structures are similar in the three older age groups of boys (7–9, 10–12, and 13–15 years). The first four factors for these groups are labelled, respectively: cranial vault size, posterior cranial base length, presphenoid length, and basisphenoid length. The order of the third and fourth factors is reversed in the 7–9 year olds. For girls, the factors extracted were also the same in both the 7–9 and 10–12 year age groups, even though the order of factors was different between age groups; i.e., anterior cranial base length, cranial vault size, basisphenoid length, and basioccipital length. Differential growth rates among cranial base dimensions probably cause changes in factor patterns. Obliteration of the spheno-occipital synchondrosis is suggested as the mechanism responsible for the change of factor pattern in the girls. Closure of this synchondrosis would have occurred too late to affect the patterns in boys.  相似文献

The splitting of muscle phosphocreatine (PCr) plays an integral role in the regulation of muscle O2 utilization during a "step" change in metabolic rate. This study tested the hypothesis that the kinetics of muscle PCr would be faster in children compared with adults both at the onset and offset of moderate-intensity exercise, in concert with the previous demonstration of faster phase II pulmonary O2 uptake kinetics in children. Eighteen peri-pubertal children (8 boys, 10 girls) and 16 adults (8 men, 8 women) completed repeated constant work-rate exercise transitions corresponding to 80% of the Pi/PCr intracellular threshold. The changes in quadriceps [PCr], [Pi], [ADP], and pH were determined every 6 s using 31P-magnetic resonance spectroscopy. No significant (P>0.05) age- or sex-related differences were found in the PCr kinetic time constant at the onset (boys, 21+/-4 s; girls, 24+/-5 s; men, 26+/-9 s; women, 24+/-7 s) or offset (boys, 26+/-5 s; girls, 29+/-7 s; men, 23+/-9 s; women 29+/-7 s) of exercise. Likewise, the estimated theoretical maximal rate of oxidative phosphorylation (Qmax) was independent of age and sex (boys, 1.39+/-0.20 mM/s; girls, 1.32+/-0.32 mM/s; men, 2.36+/-1.18 mM/s; women, 1.51+/-0.53 mM/s). These results are consistent with the notion that the putative phosphate-linked regulation of muscle O2 utilization is fully mature in peri-pubertal children, which may be attributable to a comparable capacity for mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in child and adult muscle.  相似文献

We established a highly specific enzyme immunoassay (EIA) for 5 alpha-androstane-3 alpha, 17 beta-diol 17-glucuronide (androstanediol-17G). Rabbit antisera raised against 5 alpha-androstane-3 alpha, 11 alpha, 17 beta-triol 17-glucuronide 11-glutaryl bovine serum albumin and a heterologous tracer of androstanediol-17G conjugated with horseradish peroxidase at the glucuronic acid group were used. The EIA showed excellent specificity: there were no remarkable cross-reactivities with related androgens. The assay range for urine samples was 0.3-30 ng/ml. Recoveries of standards added to samples were 100-108%. Intra-assay and inter-assay coefficients of variation were 2.9-4.4% and 5.7-7.9%, respectively. The EIA was applied to urine samples of 407 males and 322 females to determine developmental patterns and normal ranges of androstanediol-17G excretions in 11 age groups (0 y, 1 y, 2-3 y, 4-5 y, 6-7 y, 8-9 y, 10-11 y, 12-13 y, 14-15 y, 16-17 y, and over 18 y). Urinary androstanediol-17G/creatinine (androstanediol-17G/Cre) ratios in both sexes were high in infancy, tended to decrease during childhood, and began to increase near adolescence. While androstanediol-17G/Cre ratio in girls increased at 8-9 y and reached a plateau during adolescence, that in boys increased at 10-11 y and continued to increase throughout adolescence. Androstanediol-17G/Cre ratios in girls were higher than those in boys at 6-7 y (P < 0.05) and at 8-9 y (P < 0.01). Androstanediol-17G/Cre ratios in boys were higher than those in girls at 12-13 y and at older ages (P < 0.01). These developmental patterns are parallel to age-related changes in androgenicity and serum androstanediol-17G, suggesting that urinary androstanediol-17G/Cre ratio could be a good marker for androgenicity in childhood.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine cognitive and motor status factors in female and male children aged 10-14, as well as developmental and/or integration functions according to gender. The study included 162 girls and 134 boys aged 10-14, divided into four groups: 84 girls aged 10-12 (mean age 11.26, SD 0.68), 84 boys aged 10-12 (mean age 11.41, SD 0.50), 78 girls aged 13-14 (mean age 13.52, SD 0.63) and 50 boys aged 13-14 (mean age 13.21, SD 0.53). The significance of quantitative differences between boys and girls in the overall system of variables was defined based on the results of canonic discriminant analysis of variance, and within each variable based on the results on univariate analysis of variance (ANOVA). In the younger age group (10-12 years), girls were superior to boys in a test assessing flexibility (Seated straddle stretch), whereas, compared to girls, boys had greater strength of the trunk (Crossed-arm sit-ups), greater explosive strength ofjump and sprint type (Standing broad jump and 20 m dash), and coordination (Obstacle course backwards and Steps laterally). In the older age group (13-14 years) differences in flexibility were even more prominent in favor of girls, whereas the differences in explosive strength increased in favor of boys, especially of the throwing type with better agility (Steps laterally), balance (Board balance) and greater static strength of arms and shoulders (Bent-arm hang). In order to determine qualitative differences between pubertal and prepubertal girls and boys, the matrix of variable inter-correlations was factorized by the procedure of principal components procedure, that were then transformed to promax solution. The results showed that cognitive functioning had a significant role in the motor efficacy of girls and boys aged 10 to 14. In the age group of 10-12 years, in females, cognitive functioning is related to the motor system which integrates the regulation of muscle tone with agility/coordination, whereas in males there is a relation between cognitive abilities and the regulator of speed of upper extremities movement frequency. In the age group of 13-14 years, in females, cognitive functioning is involved in forming the factors for regulation of coordination and the intensity of energy mobilization in lower extremities, and to some degree, in the factor for regulation of intensity of energy mobilization in upper extremities and strength of the trunk, whereas in males the integration of synergetic regulation of movement in terms of balance and agility in terms of speed of direction change is carried out with significant involvement of cognitive abilities.  相似文献

As a result of the study of both the acetylcholine (10(-10) M; 10(-6) M) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (10(-9) M; 10(-5) M) effects on active K+ transport in rat brain cortex slices using any selective antagonists of cholinoreceptors (ChR) and GABA-receptors (GABA-R) it had been shown that after whole-body 25 cGy irradiation (1.75 mGy/min) metabotropic muscarinic ChR and GABAB-R were involved into processes of neurotransmitter modulation, whereas under the normal conditions they were mediated via ionotropic nicotinic ChR and GABAA-R. Observed changes were supposed to be an adaptive reaction. Perhaps, postirradiation structure-functional disorders in receptors were pointed as one of the reasons leading to essential changes in the interneuronal metabolic communication processes in CNS.  相似文献

Scaling peak VO2 to body mass in young male and female distance runners.   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This study examined age- and sex-associated variation in peak oxygen consumption (VO2) of young male and female distance runners from an allometric scaling perspective. Subjects were from two separate studies of 9- to 19-yr-old distance runners from the mid-Michigan area, one conducted between 1982 and 1986 (Young Runners Study I, YRS I) and the other in 1999-2000 (Young Runners Study II, YRS II). Data from 27 boys and 27 girls from YRS I and 48 boys and 22 girls from the YRS II were included, and a total of 139 and 108 measurements of body size and peak VO2 in boys and girls, respectively, were available. Subjects were divided into whole year age groups. A 2 x 9 (sex x age group) ANOVA was used to examine differences in peak VO2. Intraindividual ontogenetic allometric scaling was determined in 20 boys and 17 girls measured annually for 3-5 yr. Allometric scaling factors were calculated using linear regression of log-transformed data. Results indicated that 1) absolute peak VO2 increases with age in boys and girls, 2) relative peak VO2 (ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) remains relatively stable in boys and in girls, 3) relative peak VO2 (ml x kg(-0.75) x min(-1)) increases throughout the age range in boys and increases in girls until age 15 yr, and 4) peak VO2 adjusted for body mass (ml/min) increases with age in boys and girls. The overall mean cross-sectional scaling factor was 1.01 +/- 0.03 (SE) in boys and 0.85 +/- 0.05 (SE) in girls. Significant age x sex interactions and significant scaling factors between sexes identify the progressive divergence of peak VO2 between adolescent male and female distance runners. Mean ontogenetic allometric scaling factors were 0.81 [0.71-0.92, 95% confidence interval (CI)] and 0.61 (0.50-0.72, 95% CI) in boys and girls, respectively (P = 0.002). There was considerable variation in individual scaling factors (0.51-1.31 and 0.28-0.90 in boys and girls, respectively). The results suggest that the interpretation of growth-related changes in peak VO2 of young distance runners is dependent upon the manner of expressing peak VO2 relative to body size and/or the statistical technique employed.  相似文献

Corpora lutea and ovarian stromal tissue were analysed for prostaglandin (PG) concentrations and activities of enzymes involved in PG metabolism at 8, 10, 12, 13 and 15 days after induction of ovulation. In CL of pseudopregnant rabbits, the PGE-2-9-ketoreductase (PGE-2-9-KR) was highly active on Days 10, 12 and 15 when compared with Day 8 (P less than 0.01; P less than 0.001; P less than 0.05). In pregnant animals PGE-2-9-KR activity was only increased on Day 12 (P less than 0.05) but declined to basal levels on Days 13 and 15. Comparing PGE-2-9-KR activity of pseudopregnant and pregnant animals, a significant elevation was found on Day 15 of pseudopregnancy (P less than 0.025). Activities of PG-15-hydroxydehydrogenase did not exhibit any significant changes with time in pseudopregnant or pregnant rabbits. PGE-2 concentrations were increased on Days 12, 13 and 15 (P less than 0.025) when compared with Day 8. Changes in PGF-2 alpha concentrations paralleled those of PGE-2-9-KR. The concentrations of PG metabolites 13,14-dihydro-15-keto-PGE-2 and -PGF-2 alpha were lower than those of the primary PGs and did not show stage-specific changes in pseudopregnant and pregnant animals. These results demonstrate that the rabbit CL possesses enzymes to convert PGE-2 to PGF-2 alpha and to metabolize both PGs. PGE-2-9-KR may be involved in regulating the PGF-2 alpha/PGE-2 ratio and possibly in controlling the life-span of the corpus luteum.  相似文献

Objective:

The purpose of this study was to determine if time spent watching television is associated with changes in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors from age 9 to 19.

Design and Methods:

Participants were girls enrolled in the NHLBI Growth and Health Study (n = 1,702), and CVD risk factors were measured at ages 10, 12, 14, 16, and 19. Longitudinal quantile regression was used to determine if television viewing was associated with changes in CVD risk factors over time at the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th percentiles of the CVD risk factors.

Results:

In black girls, television viewing (h/wk) was positively associated with sum of skinfolds (mm) at the 75th (0.22, 99% CI, 0.06‐0.38) and 90th percentiles (0.21, 99% CI, 0.05‐0.36), but not at the 10th, 25th, or 50th percentiles. In white girls, television viewing (h/wk) was positively associated with sum of skinfolds (mm) with the strength of the associations progressively stronger toward the upper tail of the skinfold distribution, adjusting for physical activity and other covariates (10th percentile: 0.08, 99% CI, 0.03‐0.13; 90th percentile: 0.42, 99% CI, 0.24‐0.59). All associations were adjusted for physical activity, dietary factors, sleep, and maturation. No associations were observed between television viewing and changes in systolic blood pressure, triglycerides, or cholesterol levels in black or white girls.

Conclusion:

Girls who spent more time watching television had greater increases in sum of skinfolds from age 9 to 19, independent of physical activity levels and other covariates. The associations observed were stronger at the upper tail of the skinfold distribution.  相似文献

Using the cluster analysis of objects in the space of physique factors the objective classification of peripubertal stage of ontogenesis in girls has been constructed. The factors were obtained by factor analysis of 26 anthropometric traits from a joint sample of girls aged 7 to 17 years. Four age groups (7-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-17 years) distinguished by the factors and by the informative criteria of physique in total have been picked out. The diagnostic ability of the linear discriminant functions constructed by the stepwise discriminant analysis averages 80.0%. This level is in the limits determined in resolving problems of classification by using the anthropometric traits.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to document time of day-related changes in performances in sprint (a 20-m run) with standing and flying start as well as in eye-hand skill (ball-and-cup game) in school children. Sixty-three boys and 56 girls 9–11 years of age and considered to be healthy volunteered for the study. They were synchronized with a diurnal activity from 07: 00 to 21: 00 h and a nocturnal rest. Tests were performed at school at fixed clock hours; 08: 30, 10: 30, 13: 30, and 15: 30 h (10 min). Five different classes were involved: two of the same age participated in the sprint and three of different ages participated in the skill test. Analysis of variance was used for statistical analyses. For sprint with standing start, the best performances (higher speed) occurred at 10: 30 h (p < 0.002) and had a gender-related difference, boys performing better than girls (p < 0.001 to p < 0.00001). For sprint with flying start, a U-shaped curve pattern was obtained, with the highest performance at 08: 30 h (91% of all cases) and the lowest at 13: 30 h (p < 0.0004 and p < 0.0001); boys performed better than girls (p < 0.00004). For skill at the ball-and-cup game, the best performance occurred at 15: 40 h and the lowest at 08: 40 h (p < 0.001 to p < 0.00001); no gender-related difference was validated. Performance rates were lower for children 9.6 years of age than for children 10.6 years of age (p < 0.0001), but no sex differences were found. Thus, predictable diurnal changes in physical and skill performances were detected in studied children. However, differences between children of this age and adults are likely to exist with regard to peak time location and curve pattern. A class effect, presumably due to masking, was observed as well.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in anthropometrical characteristics during the last year (autumn-spring) in preschool and first year (autumn-spring) in school. Changes in anthropometrical characteristics during summer months were also studied (spring-autumn). The subjects were 130 boys and 122 girls, 6 years of age at the beginning of the investigation. The body height and mass were measured and the BMI (kg/m2) was calculated. In total, eight skinfolds, 10 girths and two bone widths were measured. In boys, the body height and mass were higher than in girls, while the skinfold thicknesses were thicker in girls. There were only very few significant differences between sexes in girth parameters. The width parameters were higher in boys. Our results indicated that there were more significant changes in skinfold thickness, girths and width parameters during winter in preschool in comparison with first year in school in boys, while there were only a very few significant changes during summer months in boys. In contrast, there were more significant changes in school in girls. The Spearman correlations between baseline and after 6, 12 and 18 months of study indicated that the tracking of body height was high in boys and girls. Body mass tracking was high in girls and moderate in boys, while BMI tracking was moderate in both groups. The tracking coefficients of skinfold thicknesses were relatively stable during the two years of study and mostly at the moderate level (r = 0.3-0.6). Tracking coefficients of girths measures were at moderate level, but lower in boys in comparison with girls. It was concluded that social changes and probably changes in the physical activity during transition from preschool to school slightly influenced the measured anthropometrical parameters.  相似文献

Problem of the present work was studying age features circadian rhythm of temperature of a skin with application of a method "Termochron iButton". Day-night rhythm of a skin temperature at two age-grades was investigated: boys and girls of 8-9 years and young men and girls of 20-22 years. For this purpose monitoring temperature during 48 hours with an interval of registration 10 minutes has been lead. Are revealed authentic chronobiological differences: mesor temperatures above at girls, than at boys, and at young men, above, than at girls. Amplitude of a circadian rhythm is above at boys and at girls. Researches chronobiological parameters in the different terms of day have shown, that an average level of temperature at night below at all examinees. The amplitude at adult people in the different terms of day does not differ, while at children it above in the night term.  相似文献

We studied the age- and sex-related functional characteristics of the central nervous system (CNS), cardiovascular system (CVS), lability of the visual sensory system, and mental capacity before and after a continuous computer work for 15 min in children aged 7, 8, 9, and 10 years. The results of the research showed that the resistance of the physiological systems of the body to loads associated with computer work increases in primary school children with age. We also observed sex-related differences: many parameters of functional performance during computer work at the age of 8 years were better in girls than in boys, which was due to a higher rate of development; at the age of 10 years, girls had a larger number of adverse changes in the functional state of the body compared with boys, which is possibly due to the onset of puberty.  相似文献

Intracellular recordings were made from immature, growing oocytes of the crayfish Pacifastacus leniusciulus. Oocytes had a relatively negative resting potential of -74.7+/-2.2 mV (n=26; range -53 to -90) and a mean input resistance of 0.86+/-0.19 MOmega (n=22; range 0.17-3.3). Octopamine induced a long-lasting response involving biphasic changes in input resistance, together with bi- or multiphasic changes in membrane potential. The resistance-decreasing phase involved (in different oocytes) membrane hyperpolarization, depolarization or both. The resistance-increasing phase was usually a depolarization. The hyperpolarizing form of the resistance-decreasing response, and the depolarizing resistance-increasing response reversed in polarity at membrane potentials of (respectively) -90 and -92 mV, suggesting increases and decreases in K(+) conductance underly the biphasic changes in input resistance. The threshold concentration for the response was remarkably low (>10(-12) M) and showed little or no dose-dependence over the concentration range 10(-12)-10(-6) M. Similar responses were evoked by dopamine and serotonin (at 10(-9) M), although a higher proportion of oocytes responded to octopamine and/or dopamine than to serotonin.  相似文献

The changes in cytokines and hormones involved in hematopoiesis were studied in the serum of 7 girls with anorexia nervosa, 15-24 yr old, on admission and after 5% and 10% weight gain. Hematopoiesis was studied by in-vitro culturing of circulating granulocyte-macrophage colony forming cells and erythroid burst forming cells. Nutritional status was studied by anthropometric measurements and resting energy expenditure. On admission, granulocyte-macrophage colony forming cells and erythroid burst forming cells were significantly lower than in age-matched controls and increased significantly along weight gain. Blood leptin and erythropoietin levels increased significantly with weight gain. TNF-alpha levels tended to decrease while IL-1beta levels were lower than in the controls on admission (p <0.05) and did not change significantly during weight gain. IL-3, GM-CSF and IL-6 were undetected on admission or along weight gain. The changes in granulocyte-macrophage colony forming cells and erythroid burst forming cells positively correlated with changes in resting energy expenditure and fat free mass. These results may suggest that undernutrition affects hematopoiesis as indicated by the reduction of hematopoietic progenitor cells before treatment and the significant increase with weight gain. The changes in the levels of hormones and cytokines known to be involved in hematopoiesis along refeeding may suggest a role for these factors in anorexia nervosa.  相似文献

Inotropic activity induced by carbamazepine-alkyne derivative in an isolated heart model and perfused to constant flow Introduction. Few data exist with respect to the effects of carbamazepine and its derivatives at cardiovascular level; furthermore, the molecular mechanisms and cellular site of action are still unclear. Objective. The effects induced by carbamazepine-alquine derivative on perfusion pressure, vascular resistance and left ventricular pressure were evaluated. Materials and methods. The effects of carbamazepine and carbamazepine-alquine on the perfusion pressure, vascular resistance and left ventricular pressure were examined in isolated rat hearts (Langendorff model). Results. Four results were obtained: (1) The carbamazepine-alquine derivative 10-9 mM increased the perfusion pressure and vascular resistance in comparison with the carbamazepine 10-9 mM; (2) the effect of carbamazepine-alquine derivative 10-9-10-4 mM on left ventricular pressure not was inhibited by metoprolol or prazosin at a dose of 10-6 mM; (3) nifedipine 10-6 mM blocked the effects exerted by the carbamazepine-alquine derivative 10-9-10--4 mM on left ventricular pressure, and (4) the carbamazepine-alquine derivative at dose of 10-9 mM increased the concentration of intracellular calcium over a time period of 3-18 min; nevertheless, in presence of nifedipine 10-6 mM this effect was inhibited significantly (p=0.005). Conclusions. The activity exerted by carbamazepine-alquine derivative on perfusion pressure, vascular resistance and left ventricular pressure involved activation of calcium channel type-L, brought indirectly changes in the intracellular calcium levels and subsequently induced a positive inotropic effect.  相似文献

This article investigates social and cultural aspects of "teenage life" among south Asian girls in Britain, particularly their experiences of relationships with boys and the extent to which they become involved in sexual activities. In-depth interviews were carried out with teenage girls and young women from Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi backgrounds and a comparative group of white British girls, in four schools and one college in the South and West Health Authority Region. Asian teenage girls conformed to different behavioural norms than their white peers. They were influenced by cultural traditions, religious obligations, family loyalties and community expectations. Few Asian girls became involved in relationships or sexual activities. However, once removed from the parental home, the influence of parents and their Asian community, their social and sexual behaviour changes; they experience an independence which often involves relationships and sexual activities. In contrast, white teenage girls experienced a different set of pressures which came from peers and boyfriends and accepted involvement with boys and sexual activity.  相似文献
