The nomenclatural status, ontogeny and morphology of Pholidoteuthis massyae (Pfeffer, 1912) new comb (Cephalopoda: Pholidoteuthidae)

Pholidoteuthis is unusual amongst genera of squid in that the mantle is beset with close-packed dermal cushions (scales). Despite frequent reference to species in this genus, considerable systematic confusion surrounds usage of the generic name, erected prematurely given that the same systematic characters apply for the earlier Tetronychoteuthis Pfeffer, 1900, and species attributed to it. The synonymy and ontogenetic morphology of Pholidoteuthis massyae (Pfeffer 1912) new comb., the senior synonym of P. boschmai Adam, 1950, is reported. The relationship between this species and others referred to Tetronychoteuthis, Lepidoteuthis, the Pholidoteuthidae Adam, 1950, Lepidoteuthidae Pfeffer, 1912 and Octopoteuthidae Berry, 1912, is discussed. A conjectural account of the mechanics of mating in P. massyae is provided based on the nature of spermatophore insertion in the female mantle, and modification to the terminal region of the male’s genital apparatus.     

Annotated type catalogue of the Orthalicoidea (Mollusca, Gastropoda) in the Royal Belgian Institute of Sciences, Brussels, with descriptions of two new species

The type status is described of 57 taxa from the superfamily Orthalicoidea in the collection of the Brussels museum. Two new species are described: Stenostylus perturbatussp. n., and Suniellus adrianisp. n. New lectotypes are designated for Bulimulus (Naesiotus) amastroides Ancey, 1887; Bulimulus blanfordianus Ancey, 1903; Bulimulus montivagus chacoensis Ancey, 1897; Bulimus coloratus Nyst, 1845; Plecochilus dalmasi Dautzenberg, 1900; Placostylus porphyrostomus elata Dautzenberg, 1923; Bulimulus ephippium Ancey, 1904; Bulimus fulminans Nyst, 1843; Bulimus funckii Nyst, 1843; Orphnus thompsoni lutea Cousin, 1887; Bulimus melanocheilus Nyst, 1845; Orphnus thompsoni nigricans Cousin, 1887; Orphnus thompsoni olivacea Cousin, 1887; Bulimulus pollonerae Ancey, 1897; Orphnus thompsoni zebra Cousin, 1887. New combinations are: Bostryx borellii (Ancey, 1897); Bostryx carandaitiensis (Preston, 1907); Protoglyptus mazei (Crosse, 1874); Kuschelenia (Vermiculatus) sanborni (Haas, 1947). New synonymies are established for the following nominal taxa: Orphnus thompsoni var. lutea Cousin, 1887 = Kara thompsonii (Pfeiffer, 1845); Orphnus thompsoni var. nigricans Cousin, 1887 = Kara thompsonii (Pfeiffer, 1845); Thaumastus nystianus var. nigricans Cousin, 1887 = Drymaeus (Drymaeus) nystianus (Pfeiffer, 1853); Orphnus thompsoni var. olivacea Cousin, 1887 = Kara thompsonii (Pfeiffer, 1845); Orphnus thompsoni var. zebra Cousin, 1887 = Kara thompsonii (Pfeiffer, 1845).     

Vespidae of Viet Nam (Insecta: Hymenoptera) 2. Taxonomic notes on Vespinae

The taxonomy of the Vietnamese species of the social wasp subfamily Vespinae is revised. Vespa auraria Smith, 1852, is synonymized under V. velutina Lepeletier, 1836. Vespula koreensis (Radoszkowski, 1887) is recorded as new for Viet Nam, and its color characters are described. A key to vespine species of Viet Nam based on morphological characters is provided.     

The morphology and taxonomy of the Antarctic species of Tritonia Cuvier, 1797 (Nudibranchia: Dendronotoidea)

The external morphology and anatomy of the Antarctic nudibranchs Tritonia vorax Odhner, 1926, and Tritonia antarctica Pfeffer in Martens & Pfeffer, 1886, is redescribed in detail and compared with other nominal tritoniids from the Antarctic and Subantarctic waters. Tritonia appendiculata Eliot, 1905, T. challengeriana Eliot, 1907a, non Bergh, 1884, T. chalkngeriana Odhner 1926, non Bergh, 1884, and Marionia cmullata Vicente & Arnaud 1974, non (Couthouy, in Gould 1852), are shown to be synonymous with T. antarctica. Only Tritonia antarctica is a true High Antarctic species, with a distribution around the continental shelf, Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia. T. vorax is confined to South Georgia and Subantarctic waters.     

新疆地区蚱类昆虫物种多样性及种类修订（直翅目：蚱科）

对新疆维吾尔自治区的蚱类昆虫物种多样性进行了修订和澄清.该地区共记录3种蚱:钻形蚱Tetrix subulata (Linnaeus,1758),隆背蚱Tetrix tartara (Saussure,1887)和土氏蚱Tetrix tuerki (Krauss,1876).同物异名修订如下:1)钻形蚱Tetrix subulata (Linnaeus,1758)=拟钻形蚱Tetrix subulatoides Zheng,Zhang,Yang&Wang,2006,syn.nov.;2)隆背蚱Tetrix tartara (Saussure,1887)=福海蚱Tetrix fuhaiensis Zheng,Zhang,Yang&Wang,2006,syn.nov.,=精河蚱Tetrixjingheensis Liang&Zheng,1998,syn.nov.,=亚锐隆背蚱Tetrix tartara subacuta Bey-Bienko,1951,syn.nov.,=新疆蚱Tetrix xinjiangensis Zheng,1996,syn.nov.;3)土氏蚱Tetrix tuerki (Krauss,1876)=瘤股蚱Tetrix torulosifemura Deng,2016,nomen nudum.本文更新了3种蚱的分布信息,排除了波氏蚱Tetrix bolivari Saulcy,1901在中国、以及暂时排除日本蚱Tetrixjaponica (Bolívar,1887)在新疆的分布.     

Genus Microsternus Lewis (1887) from China,with description of a new genus Neosternus from Asia (Coleoptera,Erotylidae, Dacnini)

This work treats species of the genus Microsternus Lewis, 1887 from Asia and North America. A new genus is described: Neosternus (type species Microsternus higonius Lewis, 1887). A new species is described: Microsternus pengzhongi. A new synonym is provided: Microsternus tricolor taiwanicus Nakane (=Microsternus tricolor Lewis). Three species previously placed in Microsternus Lewis, 1887 are transferred to Neosternus resulting in the following three new combinations: Neosternus higonius (Lewis, 1887), Neosternus taiwanus (Chûjô, 1976), and Neosternus hisamatsui (Nakane, 1981).     

The ant-lions of southern Africa: genus Pamexis Hagen (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae: Palparinae: Palparini)

Abstract. Pamexis Hagen, 1866, is revised. Myrmeleon luteum Thunberg is designated as type species. A key is provided for the five species comprising the genus. Pamexis luteus (Thunberg, 1784), P.bifasciatus (Olivier, 1811) and P.contaminatus (Hagen, 1887) are redescribed: P.karoo and P.namaqua are new species. All are endemic to the Cape Province of South Africa.     

Planorbidae, Lymnaeidae and Physidae of Ecuador (Mollusca: Basommatophora)

In the course of a trip to Ecuador I had the opportunity of collecting topotypic specimens of the following nominal species of pulmonate molluscs: Biomphalaria cousini Paraense, 1966; Planorbis equatorius Cousin, 1887; P. canonicus Cousin, 1887; Lymnaea cousini Jousseaume, 1887 and P. boetzkesi Miller, 1879. Additional findings were: Helisoma trivolvis (Say, 1817), Biomphalaria peregrina (Orbigny 1835), Drepanotrema anatinum (Orbigny, 1835), D. kermatoides (Orbigny, 1835), D. lucidum (Pfeiffer, 1839), D. surinamense (Clessin, 1884), Lymnaea columella Say, 1817 and Physa acuta Draparnaud, 1805. P. boetzkesi and P. canonicus are considered junior synonyms of Gyraulus hindsianus (Dunker, 1848) and Biomphalaria peregrina (Orbigny, 1835), respectively.

Taxonomic study of the genus Prorophora Ragonot, 1887 (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae, Phycitinae) in China, with description of a new species

The genus Prorophora Ragonot, 1887 is newly recorded for China. Of the three species treated here, Prorophora (Reisserempista) binacanthasp. n. is described as new; Prorophora (Prorophora) albidogilvella Roesler, 1970 and Prorophora (Reisserempista) mongolica Roesler, 1970 are diagnosed and newly recorded for China. Images of adults and illustrations of genital structures are provided, along with a key to the known species.

Taxonomic Notes on Myllocerus malignus Faust (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Entiminae)

ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Myllocerus malignus Faust was described new to science from Korea in 1887. Since then, the species collected from Korea and Far-east Russia has been misidentified as Eumyllocerus gratiosus Sharp, E. filicornis (Reitter), or E. longulus Egorov et Zherikhin. A taxonomic review of Myllocerus malignus Faust (1887) with its synonymy and the clarification of sexual dimorphism is presented. As a results, Myllocerus viridiaureus Suvorov (1915) and Eumyllocerus longulus Egorov et Zherikhin (1990) are synonymized with Myllocerus malignus.

Studies on Nipponnemertes Friedrich (Nemertini, Hoplonemertini). II. Taxonomy of Nipponnemertes pulcher (Johnston) and Some Other Species

The synonymity of some Amphiporus species is discussed. Amphiporus falklandicus Wheeler, 1934, A. pusillus Punnett, 1903, Nipponnemertes bergendali (Gering, 1912), N. danae (Friedrich, 1957) and Wheeler's specimens of A. gerlachei Burger, 1904 and A. lecointei Burger, 1904 are found to be synonymous with N. pulcher , while A. mesosorus Verrill, 1892, A. arcticus Punnett, 1901 and A. thompsoni Punnett, 1901 are separated from the discussion of synonymity with this species. A summary of the knowledge of the geographical distribution of N. pulcher is given. The species A. africanus Wheeler, 1940, A. magnus Punnett, 1903, A. marioni Hubrecht, 1887, A. schollaerti Wheeler, 1934 and A. scoresbyi Wheeler, 1934 are transferred to the genus Nipponnemertes Friedrich, 1968.     

A Review Of Two De Koninck Retzioid Brachiopod Species, And Description Of A New Genus From The Carboniferous Of Europe

A new neoretziid brachiopod genus, Coveenia , from the Lower Carboniferous of western Europe is erected; the type species is Coveenia ulothrix (de Koninck, 1843), and C. buchiana (de Koninck, 1843, sensu 1887) and C. tilsleia sp. nov. are included, diagnosed and described. Neotypes are selected and illustrated for C. ulothrix C. buchiana .     

The tangled core at the heart of the bryozoan suborder Phylloporinina

Abstract: The family Phylloporinidae was introduced in the late 19th century to accommodate a small number of Palaeozoic bryozoan genera characterized by irregularly fenestrated colonies generated by anastomosis of unilaminate branches. Among the first named of these genera were Chasmatopora Eichwald, 1855 and Phylloporina Ulrich in Foerste, 1887. The two names have been variously in fashion, and there has been confusion about whether they are subjective synonyms or are distinct genera. This taxonomic confusion has been due in large part to whether the single species (Retepora angulata Hall, 1847) assigned to Phylloporina in Foerste (1887) or the species that Ulrich intended (Retepora trentonensis Nicholson, 1875) is the type species and also because of lack of sufficient information about Foerste’s material to characterize it well. We here redescribe the pertinent species, erect the new species Chasmatopora foerstei for the species that Foerste incorrectly assigned to Phylloporina angulata (Hall), and suggest that Retepora trentonensis Nicholson be retained as type species of Phylloporina based on prevailing usage, until the issue is settled by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature.

记述采自云南省普洱市南屏镇的直翅目Orthoptera、短翼蚱科Metrodoridae、狭蚱属Xistra Bolivar2新种:小叶狭蚱Xistra foliolata Liang,sp.nov.及小狭蚱Xistra parvula Liang,sp.nov.。模式标本保存于中山大学生物博物馆。     

ZWEI HOMOEOMORPHE ARTEN DER BRYOZOENGATTUNG COLUMNOTHECA MARSSON

The study of moulds of Columnotheca cribrosa Marsson 1887 (Bryozoa Cheilostomata) revealed the internal structures of Columnotheca. In the type species C. cribrosa two spiramina in each zooecium were found, in contrast to the diagnosis of Bassler 1953 who supposed an inconspicuous ascopore. The genus is allied to Spiroporina Stohczka 1865 and is therefore included in the family Spiroporinidae Harmer 1957. Another result is the finding of a new homoeomorph species (Columnotheca monopora n.sp.), distinguished by no other characteristic than the presence of only one spiramen and apparently restricted to the Danian.
An Hand natürlicher Kieselsteinkerne von Columnotheca cribrosa Marsson 1887 (Bryozoa Cheilostomata) konnte der innere Bau des Genus Columnotheca Marsson 1887 aufgeklärt werden. Es ergab sich bei der Typusart das Vorhandensein von einem Paar von Spiramina entgegen der Annahme eines Ascoporus bei Bassler 1953, weshalb die Gattung nunmehr in die Familie Spiroporinidae Harmer 1957 eingereiht wird. (Enge Beziehungen bestehen zu Spiroporina Stoliczka 1865).
Zugleich stellte sich die Existenz einer homoeomorphen zweiten Art von Columnothfca , C. monopora n.sp. heraus, die sich von C. cribrosa nur durch den Besitz eines einzigen Spiramens unterscheidet und anscheinend auf das Danien beschränkt ist.
