Penstemon ammophilus, an endemic to Canaan Moutain in Washington Co., Utah, is described and illustrated. On the basis of anther characteristics it is placed in sectionGlabri, seriesVirgati, where it nearly links the group to sectionCristati. It is distinct from all the species of both sections with its peculiar papillose-glandular pubescence.  相似文献

Utelli, A.-B., Huber, W. & Zopfi, H.-J. 1995. Phenotypic plasticity in alpine Erigeron species (Asteraceae). — Nord. J. Bot. 15: 483–492. Copenhagen. ISSN 0107–055X.
Twelve morphological characters were analysed in 67 E. alpinus, E. neglectus and E. uniflorus plants which had been transplanted from their natural habitat to the greenhouse. Mean values and standard deviations were compared for each species. The phenotypic plasticity of the characters resp. their genetic basis was estimated from the correlation of morphological data recorded on single individuals, each grown under both ecological conditions.
A considerable phenotypic plasticity was found in all species and for most characters. E. unijlorus was the most constant species regarding taxonomically relevant characters such as pubescence of the basal leaves, number of flowering heads and number of filiform flowers. In all three species the same highly significant directional variation in plant height and involucre length was found which suggests that these characters have some genetic basis in Erigeron .  相似文献

Erigeron salmonensis, a diploid (n=9) species known only from one location in the Salmon River canyon of Idaho, is described and illustrated. The species appears to be most closely related toE. arenarioides, an endemic of northern Utah.Erigeron salmonensis differs in its long, naked, eglandular peduncles; longer leaves; smaller heads with fewer phyllaries; and longer, fewer ray florets. Federal Endangered or Threatened status may be warranted if additional populations are not discovered.  相似文献

A new species,Erigeron astranthioides, apparently endemic to the Sierra Madre of central Durango, is described and illustrated. It is contrasted withE. forreri (Greene) Greene andAstranthium, both of which are similar, though apparently through convergence. The new species is part of a lineage that includes six other primarily epapposeErigeron species mostly from the western Sierra Madre; within this group its closest relative appears to beE. mimus (S. F. Blake) Nesom, with which it is compared.  相似文献

Erigeron parryi was described in 1890 from a single collection from southwest Montana. No additional collections were made during the following 90 years. Recent floristic treatments have synonomized E. parryi under E. ochroleucus. I used principal components and discriminant analyses of morphological characters to examine the relationship of E. parryi to its presumed closest relatives, E. ochroleucus, E. radicatus, and E. scribneri, in light of several populations discovered in the past 20 years. Erigeron parryi should be considered a distinct species. It can be readily distinguished from closely related species based on indument and caudex morphology. It is allopatric with E. ochroleucus and E. scribneri and ecologically separated from E. radicatus. Erigeron scribneri is intermediate between E. ochroleucus and E. radicatus and is probably best treated as a variety of one or the other of these species.  相似文献

The new species Kleinia caespitosa, from crevices in limestone rocks at 1850–1900 m in northern Somalia, is described and illustrated. It is compared to the widespread and sympatric K. grantii, as well as to K. saginata in Oman.  相似文献

A new species of Centaurea, Centaurea sicana , endemic to Sicily, is described. This new taxon is close to Centaurea parlatoris and Centaurea giardinae (Sect. Dissectae), the former occurring at Palermo and in the Madonie Mountains, while the latter occurs on the Etna volcano. The new species has so far been found only on the Sicani Mountains, a limestone mountain range in western Sicily, while the related species occur in the surrounding mountains. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2008, 157 , 785–788.  相似文献

Few integrative analyses of the structure of agamospermous plant populations have been conducted. Erigeron compositus occurs in montane western North America and comprises both sexual and agamospermous populations. Sexual E. compositus has previously been characterized as outcrossing and predominantly diploid (2n = 18). Agamic E. compositus is usually hexaploid (2n = 54), though counts herein range from 2n = 36 to 2n = 80. Starch-gel electrophoresis, cytology, and analysis of pollen production were used to evaluate variation within and among agamospermous populations. Fifteen enzyme loci were used to identify 24 unique multilocus genotypes in seven populations, an average of 3.4 genotypes per population. Proportion of distinct genotypes per population sample size (GIN) and measures of genetic diversity (D) and evenness (E) are 0.10, 0.48, and 0.61, respectively, which indicate that E. compositus maintains levels of diversity similar to other agamospermous taxa. Most agamospermous populations are mosaics comprising groups of genetically distinct individuals that are frequently distinguished by cytotype and capacity for pollen production. The geographical and ecological separation of sexual and agamospermous populations make it unlikely that gene flow from sexual populations is a direct source of genetic variation in agamospermous populations. Instead, crossing between genetically distinct facultative agamosperms probably accounts for most variation. Genetic and morphological evidence document one such putative crossing event. Agamospermous E. compositus is very similar genetically to sexual E. compositus. Allozyme analysis further shows that genetic variation in agamospermous populations is partitioned among a few highly heterozygous genotypes, whereas sexual populations maintain numerous genotypes of relatively low heterozygosity.  相似文献

A new species,Boechera glareosa, is described and a key is provided to separate it from its apparent closest relative,B. gunnisoniana (Rollins) W. A. Weber. Twelve transfers are made fromArabis toBoechera to bring the nomenclature of Rocky Mountain region taxa in line with current DNA data.  相似文献

Eupatorium leonardii, presently known only from Mt. Mingan in the border region between Aurora and Nueva Ecija Provinces in Luzon, Philippines, is described and illustrated. The new species is remarkable because it is the only woody representative of the genus with a peculiar spiral phyllotaxy. Previously, Eupatorium s. str. consisted of herbs with opposite or verticillate phyllotaxy.  相似文献

Brickellia nesomii, a new species from northeastern Mexico, is described. It belongs to the subgenus Phanerostylis, which Gray originally placed in Eupatorium; King and Robinson elevated the taxon to generic rank; it is herein kept at the subgeneric level but transferred to Brickellia. Reasons for this transfer are given. Barroetea glutinosa, positioned by King and Robinson in Phanerostylis, is excluded.  相似文献

Leontodon palisiae sp. nov. occurring in the Iberian Peninsula, Morocco and the Canary Islands is described and illustrated. Cytological data as well as some preliminary results of self-incompatibility tests in L. palisiae are presented. A comparative carpological study of L. muelleri, L. palisiae and L. salzmannii using the SEM is made, and an identification key of these three species is provided. Two new combinations, L. muelleri ssp. trivialis comb. nov., from Morocco, and L. kralikii comb. nov., from Libya and Tunisia, are proposed. All taxa belong to the series Annui of sect. Kalbfussia in subgenus Oporinia. The basic chromosome number x=5 is here reported for the first time within the genus.  相似文献
