Context: Stomach ulcers are the common gastrointestinal disorders worldwide.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic impact of Pulicaria crispa aerial parts ethanol extract against gastric ulcer in rats.

Materials and methods: Ulcer was induced by one oral dose of ethanol (0.5?ml/100g body weight) on 24?hours empty stomach, then the plant extract (500?mg/kg b.wt.) was orally administered daily for one week. Ranitidine (100?mg/kg b.wt.); as a reference drug was evaluated. Stomach acidity and volume, as well as lesion counts were measured. Levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were estimated. Assay of different marker enzymes; succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), glucose-6-phosphatase (G-6-Pase), acid phosphatase (AP) and 5′-nucleotidase (5′NT) were determined. Interlukin-10 (IL-10), intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) were also determined. Stomach histopathological assessment was detected.

Results: Gastric ulcer showed drastic changes in oxidative stress, cell organelles and inflammatory markers. These biomarkers served as good tools to identify the presence of gastric ulcer. Treatment with P. crispa recorded amelioration in most parameters exceeding the auto healing effect.

Conclusion: Healing potency of P. crispa is possibly related to its content of glycosides, coumarins, flavonoids, tannins, sterols and triterpenes.  相似文献

The common pistachio psylla, Agonoscena pistaciae (Hemiptera: Aphalaridae) is one of the most detrimental pests to pistachio trees. Nowadays various pesticides are used to control the common pistachio psylla, but extensive pesticide spraying against this pest over a period of several years has overpowered its natural enemies. The plant’s byproducts come as an alternative ecologically more compatible in substitution to the synthetic insecticides. This work aims to evaluate the insecticidal potential of herbal extracts of fruit peels of Citrus sinensis and Citrus reticulata, seeds of C. sinensis and Rubia tinctorum, and leaves of Lawsonia inermis against common pistachio psylla. Five concentration 40, 47, 56, 67 and 80 µl/ml, of these plant extracts were sprayed on the fifth instar nymphs of common pistachio psylla by Potter Spray Tower under laboratory conditions (26?±?2?°C, 60–70% RH and a photoperiod of 16L: 8D h). Results showed significant differences among the treatments of the plant extracts and between the concentrations. The LC50 values of C. sinensis peels, C. reticulata peels, C. sinensis seeds, R. tinctorum seeds and L. inermis leaves were 62.04, 38.84, 43.60, 59.01 and 33.99 µl/ml, respectively. Also, all extracts showed the greatest mortality effect in 80 µl/ml concentration. According to these results, these plant extracts may use as herbal pesticides chemical control programme of common pistachio psylla.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Depressive disorders are partly caused by chronic inflammation through the kynurenine (KYN) pathway. Preventive intervention using anti-inflammatory reagents may be beneficial for alleviating the risk of depression. In this study, we focused on the Japanese local citrus plant, Citrus tumida hort. ex Tanaka (C. tumida; CT), which contains flavonoids such as hesperidin that have anti-inflammatory actions. The dietary intake of 5% immature peels of CT fruits slightly increased stress resilience in a subchronic and mild social defeat (sCSDS) model in mice. Moreover, the dietary intake of 0.1% hesperidin significantly increased stress resilience and suppressed KYN levels in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex in these mice. In addition, KYN levels in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex were significantly correlated with the susceptibility to stress. In conclusion, these results suggest that dietary hesperidin increases stress resilience by suppressing the augmentation of KYN signaling under sCSDS.  相似文献

Antibacterial and antifungal properties of wax and hexane extracts of Citrus spp. peels were tested using bioautographic and microdilution techniques against three plant pathogenic fungi (Penicillium digitatum, Curvularia sp., and Colletotrichum sp.), two human pathogens (Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Microsporum canis), and two opportunistic bacteria (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus). Two polymethoxylated flavonoids and a coumarin derivative, were isolated and identified from peel extracts, which presented antimicrobial activity especially against M. canis and T. mentagrophytes: 4',5,6,7,8-pentamethoxyflavone (tangeritin) and 3',4',5,6,7,8-hexamethoxyflavone (nobiletin) from C. reticulata; and 6,7-dimethoxycoumarin (also known as escoparone, scoparone or scoparin) from C. limon.  相似文献

Abstract

Synthesis of nanoparticles using biodegradable source is safer and echo-friendly. Here, we describe the synthesis of polycrystalline silver nanocrystals using Citrus sinensis acting as both reducing and capping agents. After exposing the silver ions to orange extract, rapid reduction of silver ions led to the formation of stable silver nanocrystals due to the reducing and stabilizing properties of orange fruit juice. The synthesized silver nanocrystals were characterized using various analytical techniques like UV–vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The biochemical activity of the synthesized nanocrystals was studied in the light of affinity to bovine serum albumin using several biophysical methods like absorbance, fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy. Cytotoxic activity of these nanocrystals was also studied against Hep-2 cell line using fluorescence microscopy. It was also found that the synthesized nanocrystals can sense mercuric ion down to 50?µM in the presence of a number of cations. Furthermore, we established that the silver nanoparticles can effectively catalyse the reduction of methylene blue by ascorbic acid. The present study will enrich our knowledge on the chemical and biochemical activities of green-synthesized silver nanocrystals.  相似文献

Three new compounds, 1 – 3 , and 20 known compounds were isolated from the AcOEt and BuOH extract of edible Opuntia Milpa Alta. The petroleum ether extract was examined by GC and MS. A total of 26 compounds were identified, representing 95.6% of the total extract, phytosterol (36.03%) being the most abundant component, and polyunsaturated fatty acids (18.57%) represented the second largest group, followed by phytol (12.28%), palmitic acid, palmitate (13.54%), vitamin E (4.51%), and other compounds (7.47%). The effects of various extracts from edible Opuntia Milpa Alta (petroleum ether extract, AcOEt extract, BuOH extract, aqueous extract, H2O parts) and the positive control (received dimethylbiguanide) were tested on streptozotocin (STZ)‐induced diabetic mice. The results indicated that all the treatment groups could significantly decrease blood glucose levels in STZ‐induced diabetic mice compared to the model control group (P<0.01), except the aqueous extract group (P<0.05). Especially, the petroleum ether extract group and the positive control group showed remarkable decrease of blood glucose levels. Taken together, the results indicate that the petroleum ether extract is the major hypoglycemic part in edible Opuntia Milpa Alta, which may be developed to a potential natural hypoglycemic functional ingredient.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study examined the physiological effects of different amounts of nitrogen (N) supplementation (0 to 2.72 kg/year) on the citrus cultivar Huangguogan (Citrus reticulata × Citrus sinensis). Root activity, chlorophyll content, and fruit quality were measured, and the activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT), and the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and soluble protein in root, leaf, and fruit tissues were examined at different developmental stages. Root activity, chlorophyll content, fruit quality, antioxidant enzyme activity, MDA content, and soluble protein content increased in plants treated with an appropriate amount of N. Both excessive N and N deficiency decreased the content of MDA and the activities of antioxidant enzymes. Application of 1.36–1.81 kg N/year is suggested for citrus fertilization and the lower end of this range is recommended for minimizing environmental impact and production cost.  相似文献

Nucellar embryogenesis in undeveloped ovules in some navel orange cultivars. - Nucellar embryogenesis has been studied in some cultivars of navel orange, Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck. Histological observations have been carried out in undeveloped ovules excised 2, 4, 6, 8 months after anthesis. Ovules under study derived a) from flowers naturally pollinated or hand-pollinated with pollen of Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.; b) from emasculated flowers, and c) from flowers deprived of stigma. In absence of pollination, as well as in absence of fertilization, the nucellar embryos reached the globular stage.  相似文献

Background: Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) is a valuable herb in Asian countries that is used as a crude substance to inhibit inflammation and to enhance vitality, longevity and immunity. The protective effects of KRG against the toxicity of 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+) were investigated in vitro in the present study.

Methods: PC12 cells were pretreated with the water extract of KRG for 24?h, then incubated with MPP+ for 24?h. The growth of the cells was assessed using a live cell viability assay, the ratio of apoptotic cells was measured using flow cytometry and morphology of the apoptotic cells was detected using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick-end labeling (TUNEL) staining. The expressions of caspase-3 and -9 were measured by quantitative real-time PCR.

Results: Pretreatment of the KRG extract increased cell viability significantly when compared with that of only MPP+-treated cells (p?p?p?p?Conclusion: These results indicate that KRG treatment suppresses MPP+-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells by regulating caspase cascades, suggesting a possible role for KRG in the prevention and treatment of Parkinson’s disease.  相似文献

Cheese wood, Alstonia boonei De Wild stem bark was extracted with five different solvents namely: methanol, ethanol, acetone, petroleum ether and n-hexane. The extracts were tested for insecticidal activity on cowpea bruchid, Callosobruchus maculatus (Fab.). Adult mortality and adult emergence of the insects were investigated. Oviposition deterrences using dual-choice and multiple-choice tests were also investigated as well as percentage damage and weight loss at temperature of 28?±?2?°C and 75?±?5% relative humidity. Results showed that at the rate of 2% extract per 20?g of cowpea seeds, methanol, petroleum ether and n-hexane extracts caused 100% mortality of adult cowpea bruchid after four?days of post treatment. When the bruchid had choice of oviposition substrate, they laid significantly (p?<?0.05) fewer eggs on cowpea seeds treated with extracts compared to untreated seeds. There was no adult emergence in seeds treated with methanol, ethanol, petroleum ether and n-hexane extracts and 100% reduction in F1 progeny was recorded compared with untreated that had 81.86% adults emergence and 0% reduction in F1 progeny. The results obtained from this study revealed that methanol, ethanol, acetone, petroleum ether and n-hexane extracts of A. boonei stem bark were effective in controlling C. maculatus and could serve as an alternative to synthetic insecticides for the protection of stored cowpeas against bruchids.  相似文献

Abstract

Imbalance of free radicals over antioxidants in human body may result in oxidative damage to biomolecules (lipids, proteins, DNA) that causes severe chronic diseases. The aim of this proposed research was to examine the hypoglycemic and oxidative stress potential of fava bean (Vicia faba L.) seed extract. Acetone extract showed a significant effect on glucose uptake rate (77.28?±?2.42%) in yeast cells at 25?mM glucose concentration. Minimum glucose uptake rate was found to be 52.36?±?2.06% % by chloroform seed extract. Atomic force microscopy revealed that 3% hydrogen peroxide concentration results in roughness was found to be maximum (441?±?6.7?nm) and along with extract treatment showed a significant reduction in roughness (251?±?6.2?nm). Propidium iodide and DAPI staining showed apoptotic ratio as 0.40 (40?±?1.18%,) and 0.42 (42?±?1.16%) in hydrogen peroxide treated cell only as compared to other treatments. MTT assay showed that acetone extract had maximum survival rate (82.067%) and least survival rate was found in chloroform extract (70.48%). Hypoglycaemic potential and oxidative stress might be polyphenols (phenolics, flavonoids) present in seed extract or synergistic effect.  相似文献

Background: In Chinese folk medicine, Corni fructus (C. fructus) has traditionally been used to improve liver function, although the mechanism underlying its activity remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the protective effects of wild C. fructus methanolic extract against acute alcoholic liver injury.

Methods: Alcohol was administered to mice for three consecutive days, either alone or in combination with C. fructus methanolic extract (50, 100, or 200?mg/kg body weight/d). Serum and liver tissue were collected from the animals and subjected to biochemical and histopathological analyses.

Results: C. fructus signi?cantly alleviated alcohol-induced liver injury by reducing serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and thiobarbituric acid reactive species, inhibiting hydroxyl radicals (?OH), and increasing total superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione in the liver (P?C. fructus treatment inhibited the expression and activity of cytochrome P450 2E1 (P?Conclusions: C. fructus could be a promising natural substance for ameliorating acute alcohol-induced oxidative stress and hepatic injury.  相似文献

Abstract

In an in vitro screening for human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) inhibiting agents from higher plants, the petroleum ether and ethyl acetate extracts of Magydaris pastinacea seeds selectively inhibited hCA IX and hCA XII isoforms. The phytochemical investigation of the extracts led to the isolation of ten linear furocoumarins (110), four simple coumarins (1215) and a new angular dihydrofurocoumarin (11). The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated based on 1?D and 2?D NMR, MS, and ECD data analysis. All isolated compounds were inactive towards the ubiquitous cytosolic isoform hCA I and II (K i?>?10,000?nM) while they were significantly active against the tumour-associated isoforms hCA IX and XII. Umbelliprenin was the most potent coumarin inhibiting hCA XII isoform with a K i of 5.7?nM. The cytotoxicity of the most interesting compounds on HeLa cancer cells was also investigated.  相似文献

The development of different approaches to use agricultural residues as a source of high value-added products, become a must, especially after the problems emerged due to their accumulation. This contribution demonstrates the potential of agricultural residues, Linuim usitatissium (flax seed) and Nigella sativa (black seed) peels, as raw materials for the production of bioactive products, botanical insecticides, against Cx. pipiens, with deep analysis to their chemical constituents by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, the larvicidal efficacies of the three crude extracts (methylene chloride, petroleum ether and methanol 70%) from the two plant waste peels were evaluated for the first time against the late third instar larvae of Cx. pipiens. Results indicated different lethal doses in larvae depending on the efficacy of organic solvent used. For both compounds methanol 70% extracts produced the highest dry yield. The most efficient solvent is petroleum ether in case of both flax and Black seed peels. Petroleum ether extract exhibited the highest toxicity against Cx. pipiens with an LC50 of 69.6383 ppm. The same results for black seed indicated that petroleum ether was the most efficient against Cx. pipiens with an LC50 of 40.7748 ppm. The study revealed for the first time the type of phytochemical constituents presents in peels of flax and black seeds using GC–MS analysis which revealed twenty-eight constituents among extracts of flax and black seed peels ranging from to 58.8711% to 99.99% of the total extracts. GC–MS profiling showed that a five constituents, 9-2-Methyl-Z, Z-3, 13 octadecadienol (terpenoid), 9,17-Octadecadienal, (Z)-, Nonanoic acid, 9-oxo-, methyl ester, 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid Z,Z and Octasiloxane, 1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7,9,9,11,11,13,13,15,15-hexadecamethyl- have insecticidal activity beside many other biological activities as recorded from a variety of botanical extracts. Abstract

Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. has been used in the traditional medicine of Brazil for centuries to treat a wide range of conditions, including infections, wounds and inflammation. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of C. langsdorffii bark oleoresin and a methanolic extract of the fruit for their anti-Helicobacter pylori (HP) activity and gastroprotective effects. We analyzed the in vitro anti-HP activity against three HP strains: CCUG 39500 (cagA+) and two clinical isolates, G21 and 10?K (cagA?+?and cagA–, respectively). The effect of C. langsdorffii products on IL-6 release in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells was also evaluated. Finally, the toxicity of the samples was evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Both the samples showed an interesting anti-HP activity, acting on different virulence strains, with the oleoresin reaching a minimum bactericidal concentration of 98?μg/ml against cagA– strain. Moreover, an interesting reduction in IL-6 release was observed, which could be helpful for reducing HP-induced inflammation, thus, preventing complications such as ulcer and irritation of the gastric mucosa. Toxicity was not observed up to 2000?µg/ml. Even if more studies must be conducted, this work supports the use of C. langsdorffii in the management of HP-related gastric disorders.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this study, we investigated the effects of dietary supplementation of Citrus tumida hort. ex Tanaka on food intake, body and fat tissue weights, and metabolic profiles of plasma and liver in mice. Supplementation with 5% (w/w) of peels of immature C. tumida (PIC) for 4 weeks significantly suppressed body weight gain and decreased adipose tissue weight in epididymal, perirenal, and subcutaneous fats. Metabolome analyses showed that 2-hydroxyvaleric acid levels were reduced in the blood plasma of mice fed with PIC. PIC supplementation significantly elevated dipeptide (Thr-Asp, Ser-Glu, and Ala-Ala), glucuronic acid, and S-methylglutathione levels, and significantly reduced betaine aldehyde levels in the liver. In conclusion, PIC supplementation affects the metabolism of fatty acids, pectin, glutathione, and choline, showing potential beneficial effects for metabolic syndrome and obesity. PIC may be developed as a functional food and used in the treatment of these diseases.  相似文献

Low temperature during the reproductive stage causes sterility of pollen grains and reduces yield. Phenolic compounds function as stress indicators because they accumulate to high levels in many plant tissues in response to a wide range of biotic and abiotic signals. Branches with unopened flowers were collected from trees of three Citrus species (C. reticulata, C. sinensis and C. paradisi) and exposed to different temperatures (5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 °C) for six hours. The highest amount of polyphenol and flavonoids was observed at 5 °C and then their content reduced with increasing temperature in all species. Total phenols and flavonoids content in control temperature as well as all treatments showed that C. paradisi has lower amounts of these compounds than the two other species. HPLC analysis demonstrated that low temperatures, particularly 5 °C, induce flavonoids accumulation as both peak number and flavonoid levels for retention times in pollen grains of all species. The comparison of the HPLC patterns of the three species showed that flavonoid extracts in pollen of C. paradisi decrease in peak number and flavonoids levels for retention times in both control and treatments. Citrus reticulata showed an increase of eight- and two-fold in peaks of one and four, respectively, at 5 °C. Peaks of one and six in C. sinensis increased about four- and three-fold, respectively, at 5 °C compared to the control. In C. paradisi, the levels of peaks two to four were near to the baseline in control samples. With temperature reduction, peak two showed no significant increase but the levels of peaks one, three and four in samples exposed to 5 °C increased approximately three-, three- and four-fold, respectively. ?  相似文献

研究菹草提取物的有效成分,测定其总黄酮含量及总酚酸含量,并确定它的乙酸乙酯和石油醚部位的抗氧化活性成分。采用紫外可见分光光度法,以芦丁和没食子酸作为控制材料,测定菹草的石油醚部位及乙酸乙酯部位中总黄酮和总酚酸含量;采用清除DPPH自由基能力测定法、测定总还原能力铁氰化钾法和水杨酸捕捉羟基自由基法来对菹草各组分提取物的抗氧化能力进行研究。菹草中有一定量的黄酮类化合物和酚酸类化合物存在,不同溶剂提取的部位所含有的总黄酮和总酚酸含量是有差异的,石油醚部位的总黄酮含量要高于乙酸乙酯部位的总黄酮含量,并且总酚酸的含量亦是如此;石油醚部位和乙酸乙酯部位的提取物具有清除DPPH、羟基自由基和还原Fe^3+的能力,各部位清除DPPH、羟基自由基的能力和还原Fe^3+的能力随着样品浓度的增大而增大,且乙酸乙酯部位的测定结果均低于石油醚部位。  相似文献
