The sex pheromones of two species of hawk moth, Deilephila elpenor lewisii (Butler) and Theretra oldenlandiae oldenlandiae (Fabricius), were analyzed using gas chromatography–electroantennographic detection (GC–EAD) and GC–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Two and three EAD-active components were found in D. elpenor lewisii and T. oldenlandiae oldenlandiae, respectively. GC–MS analyses using authentic compounds and extracts derivatized by dimethyl disulfide and 4-methyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione identified the two components in D. elpenor lewisii as (E)-11-hexadecenal (E11–16:Ald) and (10E,12E)-10,12-hexadecadienal (E10,E12–16:Ald), and the three in T. oldenlandiae oldenlandiae as E11–16:Ald, E10,E12–16:Ald, and (10E,12Z)-10,12-hexadecadienal (E10,Z12–16:Ald). In field-trap tests, no males of either species were attracted to any single components. Male moths of D. elpenor lewisii were specifically attracted to a binary blend of E11–16:Ald and E10,E12–16:Ald at a ratio of 85:15, whereas males of T. oldenlandiae oldenlandiae were attracted to a ternary blend of E11–16:Ald, E10,Z12–16:Ald and E10,E12–16:Ald at a ratio of 30:40:30. We therefore conclude that the sex pheromone of D. elpenor lewisii is a mixture of E11–16:Ald and E10,E12–16:Ald and that of T. oldenlandiae oldenlandiae is E11–16:Ald, E10,Z12–16:Ald and E10,E12–16:Ald.  相似文献

The predation potential of the indigenous leech Glossiphonia weberi on the snail Pomacea bridgesii, introduced in India, was evaluated in the laboratory. Snails used belonged to the size-classes ≤‰3.0, 3.1–5.0, 5.1–7.0 and 7.1–9.0 mm in shell height, using them both separately and together (mixed) in combinations. In each experiment lasting 24 h a single leech belonging to the size-classes 2.0–3.9, 4.0–5.9, 6.0–7.9, 8.0–9.9 and 10.0–11.9 mm in length was used. Except the 4.0–5.9 mm size-class, leeches were able to capture and kill P. bridgesii irrespective of latter’s size; the predation, however, was confined to snails ≤3.0 mm. The rate of predation varied with the size of the predator and the prey, and a leech was able to kill a maximum of three snails per day. In India, in nature G. weberi feeds mostly on the pulmonate snail, Lymnaea (Radix) luteola. Experimental studies, however, revealed that G. weberi prefers the snails P. bridgesii and L. (R) luteola at the same rate from amongst the many other either less or not-preferred native operculate and non-operculate snails.  相似文献

Stolephorus teguhi sp. nov. is described from the holotype and 14 paratypes, 49–77 mm in standard length, collected from North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The species is characterized by having numerous gill rakers (31–35 + 41–46 = 72–82) and a short upper jaw, its posterior tip reaching to or extending slightly beyond the anterior margin of the preopercle. Stolephorus pacificus and S. multibranchus also have relatively numerous gill rakers for species of this genus (21–27 + 29–36 = 53–61 and 21–28 + 30–35 = 54–60, respectively), but counts for S. teguhi exceed those for the two species. Although S. advenus also has a short upper jaw similar to that of S. teguhi, the former has far fewer gill rakers (19 + 24 = 43) than the latter.  相似文献

The composition of the essential oil from the wormwood sage (Artemisia frigida Willd., Asteraceae) of populations growing in the Altai Territory, the Altai Republic, the Khakass Republic, the Tuva Republic, and the East-Kazakhstan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the representative species of the silver-leaved wormwood Artemisia argyrophylla Ledeb. growing in the Republic Altai has been studied by chromato-mass spectrometry. An analysis of 15 samples of the essential oil from A. frigida obtained over a period from 1999 to 2007 indicates that samples from different populations have similar sets of the main components: α-pinene (0.2–7.8%), camphene (1.9–5.8%), 1,8-cineole (8.9–33.8%), camphor (6.7–40.0%), borneol (3.9–12.3%), terpine-4-ol (1.5–6.5%), bornyl acetate (1.4–22.0%), and germacrene D (1.4–14.6%). Some samples contain substantial amounts of α- and β-thujones (in total up to 19.1%), which are completely absent in other samples. Some samples contain santolina alcohol (up to 13.8%) and its acetate (up to 4.8%). As differentiated from A. frigida, the essential oil of A. argyrophylla contains yomogi alcohol (1.2%), artemisia ketone (12.9%), artemisia alcohol (3.1%), artemisia alcohol acetate (3.9%), and small amounts of camphor (3.2%), borneol (0.3%), and bornyl acetate (0.2%).  相似文献

In an attempt to obtain bacteria growing on 1,2-dimethylbenzene as sole carbon and energy source two different strains were isolated. One was identified as an Arthrobacter strain, the other as a Corynebacterium strain. Corynebacterium strain C125 was further investigated. The organism was not capable to grow on 1,3- and 1,4-dimethylbenzene. cis-1,2-Dihydroxycyclohexa-3,5-diene oxidoreductase and 3,4-dimethylcatechol-2,3-dioxygenase activity was found in cell extracts. When 3,4-dimethylcatechol was added to cell extract of 1,2-dimethylbenzene-grown cells, first a compound with the spectral properties of 2-hydroxy-5-methyl-6-oxo-2,4-heptadienoate was formed and subsequently acetate was produced. It is proposed that dioxygenases are involved in the initial steps of 1,2-dimethylbenzene degradation, and ring opening proceeds via meta-cleavage.  相似文献

Atherinomorus aetholepis sp. nov. is described from the holotype and 51 paratypes, 44–72 mm in standard length, collected from Indonesian and Philippine waters. The species is similar to other congeners in general body appearance, especially A. duodecimalis and A. regina, in having a slender body, a tubercle on the posterior end of the dentary, and a narrow midlateral band, but clearly differing from them in having a long spatular outgrowth on the posterior margins of most of the predorsal and interdorsal scales. Additionally, the species differs from A. duodecimalis in having a more slender body [body depth 17–22 (mean 19) % SL vs. 19–25 (mean 22) % SL], more midlateral scales [37–40 (mean 38.4) vs. 35–38 (mean 36.6)], more total vertebrae [38–42 (mean 39.9) vs. 36–40 (mean 38.0)], and fewer lower gill rakers [18–22 (mean 20.2) vs. 20–25 (mean 22.3)], and from A. regina in having more anal fin soft rays (12–14 vs. 9–10). A new species of Hirsutella, H. proturicola, isolated from a subterranean proturan (Baculentulus densus; Protura, Hexapoda), is described and illustrated. Hirsutella proturicola is characterized by producing monoblastic phialides of 24–51.5 × 2.5–5 μm with a slightly roughened neck, fusiform and curved conidia of 9–18 × 2.5–4 μm that have a truncate base and a papillate projection often capped with sheath-like mucilage, and pluricellular, globose to subglobose chlamydospores of 21–48 × 21–41.5 μm. This species is morphologically and phylogenetically close to H. rostrata, an acaropathogenic species, but can be distinguished from the size of the phialides and the size and shape of the conidia.  相似文献

Summary An efficient and rapid micropropagation system was developed for a food and medicinally important endangered shrub, Decalepis hamiltonii (‘swallow root’), through shoot multiplication. The influence of 2.5–7.5 μM isopentenyladenine (2iP), 4.4–17.7 μM 6-benzyladenine, 2.3–4.7 μM kinetin, 2.8–6.8 μM thidiazuron, and 2.3–11.4 μM zeatin alone and in combination with 0.3–0.9 μM indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) on in vitro multiple shoot production was studied. The maximum number of multiple shoots (6.5±0.4) was induced from shoot tips cultured on agar-based Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing 4.9 μM 2iP. But, both zeatin (9.1 μM) and kinetin (4.7 μM) in combination with IAA (0.6 μM) were able to produce a maximum of 5.0±0.4 and 5.1±0.4 multiple shoots, respectively. Further elongation of shoots and adventitious shoot formation was obtained on medium containing 2.5 μM 2iP and 0.3 μM gibberellic acid. Elongated shoots were separated and rooted on MS medium supplemented with 9.8μM indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and various phenolic compounds within 5–6 wk. Phloroglucinol and salicylic acid interaction with IBA stimulated in vitro rooting of shoots. Successful field transfer was achieved in rooted plantlets.  相似文献

A new species of opisthoproctid, Dolichopteryx pseudolongipes, is described on the basis of three specimens (48.7–79.9 mm in standard length: SL) collected from the eastern Pacific Ocean. This species is characterized by small tubular eyes (diameter 2.7–3.9% SL), presence of an adipose fin, anal fin base originating under the dorsal fin base, relatively short predorsal (73.3–73.8% SL), prepelvic (64.3–67.9% SL), preanal (77.4–80.1% SL), and preanus (71.5–75.7% SL) lengths; 31–33 (=9–10 + 22–24) gill rakers and 43–45 vertebrae. Although D. pseudolongipes had previously been confused with Dolichopteryx longipes, many differences between the species are apparent [e.g., adipose fin absent, anal fin base origin just behind dorsal fin base, greater prepelvic length (70.3–72.7% SL), 25 gill rakers, and 46–47 vertebrae in D. longipes].  相似文献

The tetrasporophyte of Asparagopsis armata has been previously established as a novel seaweed biofilter for integrated land-based mariculture. The species growth and biofiltration rates were much higher than the values described in the literature for Ulva spp., the most common seaweed biofilter. However, a validation of the advantage of one species over the other requires a study of the performances of these two species in the same system at the same time. In this work, we compared the biofiltration performance and biomass yield of A. armata and Ulva rigida cultivated in the effluents of a fish farm in southern Portugal. Comparisons were performed at different water renewal rates and in two seasons of the year. The maximum total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) removal rates were similar for both species in December (2.7 and 2.8 g TAN m–2 day–1 for U. rigida and A. armata, respectively) and higher for A. armata (6.5 g TAN m–2 day–1) than for U. rigida (5.1 g TAN m–2 day–1) in May. Higher differences were observed when estimating the nitrogen biofiltration through the organic nitrogen yield (N yield) of the biomass produced, particularly in May. This estimate is directly related with the biomass yield and the N content in the tissue which were always higher for A. armata than for U. rigida. In December, the maximum biomass yields were 71 g dry weight (DW) m–2 day–1 for A. armata and 44 g DW m–2 day–1 for U. rigida, while in May, the yield of A. armata was 125 g DW m–2 day–1 and of U. rigida was 73 g DW m–2 day–1. This study confirmed that A. armata is indeed a more efficient biofilter than U. rigida. To the best of our knowledge, the production rates reported here are the highest ever reported for macroalgae cultivated in tanks.  相似文献

Summary Callus of Phalaenopsis Nebula was induced from seed-derived protocorms on 1/2 Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium plus 0–1.0 mg l−1 (0–4.52 μM) N-phenyl-N′-1,2,3,-thiadiazol-5-yl urea (TDZ) and/or 0–10 mg l−1 (0–45.24 μ M) 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Protocorms 2 mo. old performed better than 1-mo.-old protocorms for callus induction. More calluses formed on 1/2 MS basal medium supplemented with 0.1–1.0 mg l−1 (0.45–4.52 μM) TDZ. These calluses could be maintained by subculturing every month with basal medium supplemented with 0.5 mg l−1 (2.27 μM) TDZ and 0.5 mg l−1 (2.26 μM) 2,4-D. Protocorm-like bodies were formed, and plants regenerated from these calluses on 1/2 MS basal medium alone or supplemented with 0.1–1.0 mg l−1 (0.45–4.52 μM) TDZ. Plantlets were then potted on sphagnum moss in the greenhouse and grew well. No chromosomal abnormalities were found among the root-tip samples of 21 of the regenerated plantlets that were successfully acclimatized.  相似文献

Forests with nitrogen-fixing trees (N–fixers) typically accumulate more carbon (C) in soils than similar forests without N–fixing trees. This difference may develop from fundamentally different processes, with either greater accumulation of recently fixed C or reduced decomposition of older soil C. We compared the soil C pools under N–fixers with Eucalyptus (non–N–fixers) at four tropical sites: two sites on Andisol soils in Hawaii and two sites on Vertisol and Entisol soils in Puerto Rico. Using stable carbon isotope techniques, we tracked the loss of the old soil organic C from the previous C4 land use (SOC4) and the gain of new soil organic C from the C3, N–fixer, and non–N–fixer plantations (SOC3). Soils beneath N–fixing trees sequestered 0.11 ± 0.07 kg m−2 y−1 (mean ± one standard error) of total soil organic carbon (SOCT) compared with no change under Eucalyptus (0.00 ± 0.07 kg m−2 y−1; P = 0.02). About 55% of the greater SOCT sequestration under the N–fixers resulted from greater retention of old SOC4, and 45% resulted from greater accretion of new SOC3. Soil N accretion under the N–fixers explained 62% of the variability of the greater retention of old SOC4 under the N–fixers. The greater retention of older soil C under N–fixing trees is a novel finding and may be important for strategies that use reforestation or afforestation to offset C emissions. A new species of Dipcadi (Hyacinthaceae) that is allied to D. concanense (Dalzell) Baker but differs in its small flowers (13 – 18 mm long vs 35 – 47 mm long) and funnel shaped perianth tube (5 – 6  ×  5 – 6 mm vs 18 – 27  ×  4 – 5.5 mm) is described as D. goaense. The new species is apparently endemic, because it is known only from the type locality in Goa state of India. The type locality is at the foothills of Western Ghats and the habitat is a soil covered, lateritic, open area.  相似文献

A marine fungus was isolated from the black tiger prawn Penaeus monodon at Nha Trang, Vietnam, on March 20, 2001 and named isolate NJM 0131. The fungus was identified as Haliphthoros milfordensis from the characteristics of asexual reproduction, and its physiological characteristics were investigated. Although the optimum temperature for growth of the isolate was 25°–30°C, the fungus grew at a wide range of temperatures (15°–40°C). H. milfordensis grew well in 50%–100% seawater, but poorly in PYG agar containing 1.0%–5.0% NaCl and KCl. The fungus grew at a wide range of pH (4.0–11.0) with the optimum pH value of 7.0–9.0. The isolate also showed pathogenicity to swimming crab larvae (Portunus trituberculatus) by artificial infection, but mortality was not high. This is the first report of disease in the black tiger prawn P. monodon in Vietnam caused by H. milfordensis. Received: July 22, 2002 / Accepted: January 21, 2003 Correspondence to:K. Hatai  相似文献

Molecular genetic fingerprints of nine Curcuma species from Northeast India were developed using PCR-based markers. The aim involves elucidating there intra- and inter-specific genetic diversity important for utilization, management, and conservation. Twelve random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), 19 Inter simple sequence repeats (ISSRs), and four amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) primers produced 266 polymorphic fragments. ISSR confirmed maximum polymorphism of 98.55% whereas RAPD and AFLP showed 93.22 and 97.27%, respectively. Marker index and polymorphic information content varied in the range of 8.64–48.1, 19.75–48.14, and 25–28 and 0.17–0.48, 0.19–0.48, and 0.25–0.29 for RAPD, ISSR, and AFLP markers, respectively. The average value of number of observed alleles, number of effective alleles, mean Nei’s gene diversity, and Shannon’s information index were 1.93–1.98, 1.37–1.62, 0.23–0.36, and 0.38–0.50, respectively, for three DNA markers used. Dendrograms based on three molecular data using unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) was congruent and classified the Curcuma species into two major clusters. Cophenetic correlation coefficient between dendrogram and original similarity matrix were significant for RAPD (r = 0.96), ISSR (r = 0.94), and AFLP (r = 0.97). Clustering was further supported by principle coordinate analysis. High genetic polymorphism documented is significant for conservation and further improvement of Curcuma species.  相似文献

In this work, the variability of spo0A gene in the genus Geobacillus and applicability of this gene for the taxonomy within this genus were evaluated. The protein Spo0A is the master regulator of the endospore-forming process in the all endospore-forming bacteria. Geobacillus genus-specific primers GEOSPO were designed based on the sequences of Geobacillus spo0A gene available through the public databases. Inter and intraspecific variability of Geobacillus spo0A gene was determined after sequencing of the GEOSPO-PCR products. Geobacillus spo0A sequence analysis showed that three species—Geobacillus thermodenitrificans, G. stearothermophilus, and G. jurassicus—could be easily identified. Similarity between the sequences of these species and the other species were in the range of 83.3%–92.0%. In contrast, intraspecific similarity of G. thermodenitrificans and G. stearothermophilus was high—above 99.0%. Similarity of spo0A sequences of G. subterraneus–G. uzenensis species cluster also matched this interval. Intercluster similarity between G. lituanicus–G. thermoleovorans–G. kaustophilus–G. vulcani and G. thermocatenulatus–G. gargensisG. caldoxylosilyticus–G. toebii–G. thermoglucosidasius species clusters, as well as interspecific similarity within these two clusters was in the range of the intraspecific similarity determined for G. thermodenitrificans and G. stearothermophilus. It was also determined that spo0A cannot be used as the phylogenetic marker for the genus Geobacillus.  相似文献
