Salvia officinalis L. is a medicinal plant extensively used in foods, traditional medicine, and the pharmacological industry. In the current study, the effects of different irrigation regimes [irrigation after 70 ± 5 (regular), 105 ± 5 (moderate drought stress), and 140 ± 5 (severe drought stress) mm evaporation] and nutrient sources (control, NPK, farmyard manure, foliar fertilizer, and hydrogel) were investigated on the growth parameters and essential oil (EO) components of S. officinalis in the greenhouse. The plants were harvested two times. The regular irrigation treatment had the most significant effect on plant height (51 cm), fresh and dry herb weight (51.5 and 18.1 g plant−1), and fresh and dry leaf weight (40.1 and 13.1 g plant−1). The highest amount of EO was observed after moderate drought stress (1.48%). The NPK treatment had the greatest effect on plant height (40 cm), branch number (19 per plant), fresh and dry herb weight (53.4 and 18.9 g plant−1), fresh and dry leaf weight (41.2 and 13.6 g plant−1), and EO content (1.67%). The 1st cutting was superior in EO amount, while the 2nd cutting had a high agronomic yield. α-Thujone (from 21.6 to 34.2%) was identified as the predominant compound. Additionally, the content of α-thujone in the 2nd cutting was higher after moderate drought stress, NPK, and hydrogel treatments. Moreover, 1,8-cineole, β-thujone, camphene, α-pinene, α-humulene, viridiflorol, borneol, and bornyl acetate were the other main compounds. As a general result, regular irrigation and NPK treatments improved the agronomic yield of S. officinalis. The plants under drought stress produced high amounts of EO. The farmyard manure also improved plant yield by providing a part of the plant's nutritional needs. Therefore, it could be concluded that it is crucial to determine the effects of limited water availability and various nutrient sources on yield and chemical compositions for medicinal and aromatic plant growth.  相似文献

One of the most destructive beetles attacking stored grain products in the tropics is red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum Herbst (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). The ecological problems associated with using synthetic chemical insecticides have strongly necessitated the need to search for biorational alternatives. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the chemical composition and the insecticidal potentials of rough lemon (Citrus jambhiri Lush.) fruit rind essential oil (EO) against the pest. The EO obtained via hydrodistillation was assayed against T. castaneum at 27, 53, 80 and 107 mL/L air. Chlorpyrifos was used as a positive control. The EO was subjected to Gas chromatography-Mass spectrometry. A total of 51 compounds, predominated by oxygenated monoterpenes, were identified. The predominant ones included α-Terpineol (8.03%), Lemonol (7.67%) Citral (7.00%), 4-Terpineol (6.52%), n-hexadecanoic acid (4.70%), Caryophellene (4.58%), Citronellol (4.38%) and β-Bisabolene (4.01%), α-Bergamotene (3.74%), and Precocene I (3.33%). Application of the EO at 80–107 mL/L air evoked toxicity (53.75–100.00%) which compared with what was observed in insects treated with Chlorpyrifos (70.00–100.00%). The median lethal time (LT50) observed when the EO was applied at the rate of 80 μL/L air [1.11 (0.00–2.48 h)] was not significantly different from 0.70 (0.16–1.12) h observed when the EO was applied at 107 μL/L air and 0.62 (0.39–1.39) h observed when Chlorpyrifos was applied. The results of this study indicate the potential of the EO as an alternative to over-dependence on synthetic pesticides in the management of red flour beetle.  相似文献

In the present study, six monoterpenes [(?)-citronellal, p-cymene, (?)-menthone, α-pinene, α-terpinene, and (?)-terpinen-4-ol] and two phenylpropenes [trans-cinnamaldehyde and eugenol] were evaluated for their contact and fumigant toxicities against Sitophilus oryzae adults. The effects of these compounds on the mortality of S. oryzae adults in stored wheat and their inhibitory effects on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and adenosine triphosphatases (ATPases) were examined. The tested compounds showed varying degrees of contact toxicity, with trans-cinnamaldehyde (LC50 = 0.01 mg/cm2) being the most potent compound, followed by (?)-menthone (LC50 = 0.013 mg/cm2) and eugenol (LC50 = 0.015 mg/cm2). In a fumigant toxicity assay, the monoterpenes α-terpinene, p-cymene, and (?)-menthone showed the highest toxicities (LC50 = 50.79, 52.37, and 54.08 μl/L air, respectively). Trans-cinnamaldehyde, (?)-citronellal, and eugenol were the least toxic (LC50 > 100 μl/L air). In general, the oxygenated compounds exhibited high contact toxicities while the hydrocarbon compounds exhibited high fumigant toxicities. When tested for their insecticidal activities against S. oryzae in stored wheat, trans-cinnamaldehyde was found to be the most potent compound, with 73.9% mortality at an application rate of 0.5 g/kg and complete mortality (100%) at 1 and 5 g/kg after 1 week of treatment. All of the tested compounds showed AChE inhibition, although (?)-citronellal and trans-cinnamaldehyde presented the strongest enzyme inhibition, with IC50 values of 18.40 and 18.93 mM, respectively. On the other hand, (?)-terpinene-4-ol exhibited the highest inhibition of ATPases, followed by α-pinene and α-terpinene.  相似文献

Many countries operate regional trapping programs for the detection of exotic tephritid fruit flies, which because of their polyphagous habits pose a serious threat to fruit and vegetable crops. Detection of the Mediterranean fruit fly (medfly), Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), relies primarily on trimedlure (TML), a synthetic male-specific lure, yet few studies have measured the relationship between distance from TML-baited traps and the probability of male capture, and consequently the detection sensitivity of medfly trapping programs is largely unknown. The present study measured distance-dependent capture probabilities for male C. capitata in TML-baited traps using mark–release–recapture procedures. Releases were performed at distances of 25, 50, 100, and 200 m at 4 sites in Hawaii, and the resulting capture rates were used to estimate the minimum detectable population size (detection probability > 99.9%) for a trapping density of 5 TML traps per 2.59 km2 (= 1 mi2, the density used in California, USA). Capture rates were similar for 3 of the sites (6.5%, 3.8%, 1.1%, and 0.1% for the 4 distances, respectively) and yielded an estimated minimum detectable population of ≈ 2300 males, a value similar to that obtained in a comparable study conducted in California. For unknown reasons, capture rates were significantly lower at the remaining site (1.8%, 0.6%, 0.1%, 0.04%) and the estimated minimum detectable population was correspondingly much larger (≈ 10,000 males). Implications of these results for medfly detection programs are discussed.  相似文献

Medicinal plants largely serve as a source of bioactive compounds in traditional medicines to cure various diseases. The present study was aimed at chemical composition, antioxidant, antimicrobial, cytotoxic and antihemolytic potential of five different extracts of G. hispida and H. crispum (Boraginaceae). G. hispida methanolic extract displayed highest number (eleven) of polyphenolic compounds by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Functional groups were identified by Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and elements (Si, Fe, Ba, Mg, Ti, Ca, Mg and Cr) were observed by using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) which were also highly expressed in G. hispida as compared to H. crispum. Antioxidant activity was determined via six assays and antibacterial activity was observed in decreasing order of methanol > ethanol > chloroform > ethyl acetate > n-Hexane in both species. Cytotoxic potential was investigated against brine shrimps and then liver (HepG2) and skin (HT144) cancer cell lines which was detected highest in the G. hispida ethanolic extract (50.76 % and 72.95 %). However, H. crispum chloroform extract revealed highest (31.869 μg/mL) antihemolytic activity and its methanolic extract indicated highest (13.5 %) alpha-amylase inhibitory potential. Altogether, results suggested that both species could be used effectively in food and drug industries owing to the presence of vital bioactive compounds and elements. In future, we recommend to isolate active compounds and to perform in vivo biological assays to further validate their potential biological applications.  相似文献

Essential oil (EO) was hydrodistilled from Achillea biebersteinii and analyzed using gas chromatography–flame ionization detection (GC–FID) and (GC–MS). Three monoterpenes, α-terpinene, p-cymene, and camphor were isolated as the main terpenes in the EO. Oil-in-water nanoemulsion (particle size 52.7 ± 4.4 nm) was prepared and characterized from EO through a hydrothermal approach. The EO products caused insecticidal effects and altered F1 progeny of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) in a dose and exposure time-dependent manner. The nanoemulsion was superior in bioactivity, followed EO. At 12.5 µl/cm2, nanoemulsion and EO caused 100% mortality of the second larvae after 4 days of exposure with reduction of F1 progeny of 100.0 and 89.2%, respectively. At 50.0 µl/cm2, percentage mortality and reduction in progeny of EO products ranged between (61.4–100%) and (53.0–100%), respectively. Upon fumigation, nanoemulsion at 10 µl/L air caused 100% mortality of the second larvae after 4 days of exposure. At 20 µl/L air and 4 days after treatment, percentage mortality with the remainder botanicals ranging between 64.7 and 100. LC50′s of products after 48 h exposure ranging between 6.7 and 58.1 µg/cm2 in insecticidal bioassay, and between 3.6 and 26.3 µl/L upon fumigation. Botanicals caused a remarkable inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity (AChE), where nanoemulsion (IC50 = 14.22 mM), EO (IC50 = 35.12 mM) and camphor (IC50 = 23.93 mM) were superior as AChE inhibitors. There is a potential for using of A. biebersteinii EO, its nanoemulsion and monoterpenes as natural grain protectants after the required toxicological investigations.  相似文献

The sterile insect technique (SIT) is used to control fruit fly pests, such as the Mediterranean fruit fly (medfly), Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae). Enhancing sexual competitiveness of mass-reared sterile males can contribute to making this technique more effective. It has been shown that exposure to volatiles from essential oils (EOs), such as ginger root oil (GRO) and those from host fruits, increases male mating success. We evaluated the effect of EOs from non-host species native to Argentina, Schinus polygama (Cav.) Cabrera (Anacardiaceae) and Baccharis spartioides (Hook. & Arn.) Remy (Asteraceae), on the sexual competitiveness of sterile C. capitata males. In field cage experiments, sterile males exposed to S. polygama EO increased their mating success. In addition, sterile males exposed to this EO achieved more matings on trees than non-exposed males, thus suggesting the former are more prone to locate and defend the pheromone-calling territory. Deprivation of water and/or food significantly reduced males' life span, but exposure to S. polygama EO and GRO did not affect their survival. Schinus polygama EO is composed of mono- and sesquiterpenes with behavioral and electroantennographic responses in medflies, indicating that semiochemicals that boost medfly sexual competitiveness combine in this EO.  相似文献

This randomized double-blind placebo controlled study assessed the vaginal colonization of lactic acid bacteria and clinical outcome. Vaginal capsules containing L gasseri LN40, Lactobacillus fermentum LN99, L. casei subsp. rhamnosus LN113 and P. acidilactici LN23, or placebos were administered for five days to 95 women after conventional treatment of bacterial vaginosis and/or vulvovaginal candidiasis. Vulvovaginal examinations and vaginal samplings were performed before and after administration, after the first and second menstruation, and after six months. Presence of LN strains was assessed using RAPD analysis. LN strains were present 2–3 days after administration in 89% of the women receiving LN strains (placebo: 0%, p < 0.0001). After one menstruation 53% were colonized by at least one LN strain. Nine percent were still colonized six months after administration. Ninety-three percent of the women receiving LN strains were cured 2–3 days after administration (placebo: 83%), and 78% after one menstruation (placebo: 71%) (ns). The intervention group experienced less malodorous discharge 2–3 days after administration (p = 0.03) and after the second menstruation (p = 0.04), compared with placebo. In summary, five days of vaginal administration of LN strains after conventional treatment of bacterial vaginosis and/or vulvovaginal candidiasis lead to vaginal colonization, somewhat fewer recurrences and less malodorous discharge.  相似文献

Essential oil (EO) properties of six L. angustifolia (LA) and two L. x intermedia (LI) cultivars were evaluated during summer harvest periods of 2017 and 2018, The cultivars were grown in Dörgicse, Hungary. According to our results, the essential oil (EO) content was highly dependent on the varieties in both experimental years (2017: p < 0.0001 and 2018: p < 0.0001). In 2017, the EO content values of LI accessions were all higher than those of the LA cultivars. However, in 2018, the mean EO content value of ‘Budakalászi’ (LA) (8.2 mL/100g) exceeded that of ‘Grosso’ (LI) (7.7 mL/100g). The EO of ‘Mailette’ (LA) and ‘Budakalászi’ (LA) contained the highest linalool proportions (52.9% and 47.0%) while ‘Beate’ (LA) showed the lowest (18.1%); and this latter variety was richest in linalyl-acetate (58.9%). LI varieties produced lower linalyl acetate and total ester ratios in comparison to the LA cultivars. Concerning EO composition, only the UK varieties ‘Hidcote Blue’ (LA) and ‘Munstead’ (LA) met the requirements of the Ph. Eur.This study provided evidence that the effect of growth year on the EO content was significant only in two varieties out of the eight. However, in the more rainy year 2018, the accumulation of linalool and linalyl acetate was significantly affected in several cases, where linalool proportions decreased and linalyl acetate ratios increased.  相似文献

Two commercialized essential oils and their constituent compounds were investigated for fumigant and contact activities against two grain storage insects, adults of the maize weevil (Sitophilus zeamais) and the red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum). The two commercialized basil and orange oils showed strong fumigant and contact activities against S. zeamais and T. castaneum. The constituents of the basil oil were linalool (21.83%), estragole (74.29%), and α-humulene (2.17%), and those of the orange oil were α-pinene (0.54%), sabinene (0.38%), β-myrcene (1.98%), limonene (96.5%), and linalool (0.6%). As a toxic fumigant, the basil oil was more effective (24-h LC50 = 0.014 and 0.020 mg cm 3) than the orange oil (24-h LC50 = 0.106 and 0.130 mg cm 3) against S. zeamais and T. castaneum adults, respectively. Among the constituents of the two essential oils, the toxicity of estragole was the highest (0.004 and 0.013), followed by linalool (0.016 and 0.023), limonene (0.122 and 0.171), α-pinene (0.264 and 0.273), and β-myrcene (0.274 and 0.275) based on 24-h LC50 values (mg cm 3). Similar results were obtained in a contact toxicity test. The contact activity of basil oil was more toxic than orange oil, and estragole and linalool showed pronounced contact toxicity against S. zeamais and T. castaneum adults. Alpha-humulene had no activity as a fumigant at the tested doses, but it did have an effect as a contact poison, having 24-h LD50 values of 0.040 and 0.045 mg adult 1 to S. zeamais and T. castaneum, respectively. Although basil oil, orange oil, and their components displayed both contact and fumigant toxicities, their effects were mainly exerted by fumigant action via the vapor phase. Thus, basil oil, orange oil, and their components could be potential candidates as new fumigants for the control of S. zeamais and T. castaneum adults.  相似文献

Aurein 2.1, aurein 2.6 and aurein 3.1 are amphibian host defence peptides that kill bacteria via the use of lytic amphiphilic α-helical structures. The C-terminal PEGylation of these peptides led to decreased antibacterial activity (Minimum Lethal Concentration (MLCs) ↓ circa one and a half to threefold), reduced levels of amphiphilic α-helical structure in solvents (α-helicity ↓ circa 15.0%) and lower surface activity (Δπ ↓ > 1.5 mN m?1). This PEGylation of aureins also led to decreased levels of amphiphilic α-helical structure in the presence of anionic membranes and zwitterionic membranes (α-helicity↓ > 10.0%) as well as reduced levels of penetration (Δπ ↓ > 3.0 mN m?1) and lysis (lysis ↓ > 10.0%) of these membranes. Based on these data, it was proposed that the antibacterial action of PEGylated aureins involved the adoption of α-helical structures that promote the lysis of bacterial membranes, but with lower efficacy than their native counterparts. However, PEGylation also reduced the haemolytic activity of native aureins to negligible levels (haemolysis ↓ from circa 10% to 3% or less) and improved their relative therapeutic indices (RTIs ↑ circa three to sixfold). Based on these data, it is proposed that PEGylated aureins possess the potential for therapeutic development; for example, to combat infections due to multi-drug resistant strains of S. aureus, designated as high priority by the World Health Organization.  相似文献

Measurement of isotope ratios in 1α,2α,3β-trihydroxy-p-menthane, which has been biosynthesized in Fusicoccum amygdali from 3H- and 14C-labelled mevalonate and in its degradation product diosphenol indicates that: (a) four tritium atoms arising from [5-3H2, 2-14C]MVA are retained, one more than suggested from the hydroxylation pattern, (b) menth-2-ene-1-ol is generated from an α-terpinyl cation through a 1,3-hydride shift and (c) trans-cleavage of an α-epoxide by hydrolysis gives 1α,2α,3β-trihydroxy-p-menthane.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of different concentrations of three organic infusions as an oviposition attractancy agents of gravid Ae. aegypti mosquito under laboratory condition. Three organic infusions namely, Costus igneus Nak (Insulin plant leaf), Psidium guajava Linn (Guava tree leaf), and Cicer arietinum Linn (Black chickpea) were prepared by fermentation process and bioassays such as choice bioassay and comparison bioassay were performed to assess its oviposition attractiveness. In the choice bioassay, four different concentrations namely, 5%, 10%, 15%, 50% of each infusion was tested with gravid female Ae. aegypti and the oviposition results were compared to the water control. The results showed that the oviposition attractiveness was significantly differed among the different concentrations of three infusions. The highest mean oviposition was observed to be 457.3 ± 22.9 in 15% insulin plant leave infusion and it was 192.6 ± 11.5 in water control (F = 49.64; P = <0.001; OAI = +0.40). The best resulted concentration of the infusions in the choice bioassay was further studied and compared to the positive control (10% hay infusion). The highest mean oviposition was recorded in comparison bioassay was 475.3 ± 10.7 in 15% insulin plant leaf infusion and it was 235.3 ± 9.9 in 10% hay infusion (F = 18.71; P = <0.001; OAI = +0.38). These findings suggest that the insulin plant leaf infusion could be used in ovitraps as an effective organic oviposition attractant in Ae. aegypti mosquito surveillance and control program.  相似文献

Combinatory effect of ethyl formate (EF) and phosphine (PH3) fumigation against Pseudococcus longispinus and P. orchidicola was evaluated on 13 foliage nursery plants. Treatment with the combination of EF at 16 mg/L and PH3 at 0.1 mg/L for 4 h resulted in 100% fumigant activity against both adults and nymphs of P. longispinus and P. orchidicola in a 12 L desiccator. The combination treatment showed higher efficacy towards adults than towards nymphs for both mealybug species, although it was reversed for P. orchidicola when EF was treated alone. The combination treatment showed higher fumigant activity than the single EF or PH3 treatment. In larger fumigation chambers (0.65 m3 and 10 m3), 100% fumigant activity was observed with the combination of EF at 20 g/m3 and PH3 at 1 g/m3 against both mealybug species regardless of location inside chambers. The highest sorption rates for each fumigant were 24.4% for PH3-treated Hoya carnosa and 75.4% for EF-treated Philodendron selloum. Except P. selloum, all other species tested exhibited significant leaf damage one week after the combination treatment. Two species, Echeveria 'Perle von Nürnberg' and Heteropanax fragrans showed 100% leaf damage and died 5 months later without any new leaf formation. However, other 10 species were able to recover the treatment damage after 5 months. Treatment of these two plants with EF seems unfeasible. This study suggests that the combination of EF and PH3 can be used for controlling P. longispinus and P. orchidicola in some foliage nursery plants.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo provide normative postural stability data in young subjects.MethodsNinety-six healthy participants (58 W, 28 ± 6y) stood on a force plate during 60 s. We measured effects of support width (feet apart, FA; feet together, FT), vision (eyes open, EO; closed, EC), and cognitive load (single task, ST; dual tasking, DT) on anteroposterior (AP) and medio-lateral (ML) ranges, area and planar velocity of center of pressure (COP) trajectory.ResultsAll variables increased with FT (AP range, +15%; ML, +185%; area, +242%; velocity, +50%, p < 0.0002 for all, MANOVA). Visual deprivation increased COP ranges with added constraints (FT or DT, p = 0.002) and increased velocity in all conditions (FA/ST, +16%; DT, +18%; FT/ST, +29%; DT, +23%, p < 0.0002 for all). Dual tasking reduced COP displacements with FT (AP range, EO, −15%; EC, −11%; ML range, EO, −19%; EC, −13%; area, EO, −40%; EC, −28%, p < 0.0002 for all) and increased velocity in most conditions (FA/EO, +15%; FA/EC, +16%; FT/EO, +7%, p < 0.0002 for all).ConclusionIn young healthy adults, base of support reduction increases COP displacements. Vision particularly affects postural stability with feet together or dual tasking. Dual tasking increases velocity but decreases COP displacements in challenging postural tasks, potentially by enhanced lower limb stiffness.  相似文献

During our screening program for agrochemicals from Chinese medicinal herbs and wild plants, the essential oil of Litsea cubeba fruits was found to possess strong contact toxicity against the cigarette beetle Lasioderma serricorne adults and the booklouse Liposcelis bostrychophila, with LD50 values of 27.33 μg/adult and 71.56 μg/cm2, respectively, and also showed strong fumigant toxicity against the two stored product insects with LC50 values of 22.97 and 0.73 mg/L, respectively. The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation was investigated by GC MS. The main components of the essential oil were identified to be E-citral (geranial) (27.49%), Z-citral (neral) (23.57%) and d-limonene (18.82%) followed by β-thujene (3.34%), β-pinene (2.85%), α-pinene (2.57%), 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one (2.40%) and linalool (2.36%). Citral (Z/E-citral), d-limonene, β-pinene, α-pinene and linalool were separated and purified by silica gel column chromatography and preparative thin layer chromatography, and further identified by means of physicochemical and spectrometric analysis. Citral and linalool showed strong contact toxicity against L. serricorne and L. bostrychophila (LD50 = 11.76, 12.74 μg/adult and 20.15, 99.97 μg/cm2, respectively) and fumigant toxicity against L. serricorne and L. bostrychophila (16.54, 18.04 mg/L air and 0.14, 0.71 mg/L air, respectively). Otherwise, citral, d-limonene and linalool were strongly repellent against the cigarette beetle L. serricorne as the essential oil whereas β-pinene and α-pinene exhibited weaker repellency against the cigarette beetle compared with the positive control, DEET. Moreover, except α-pinene and linalool, the other three compounds as well as the essential oil exhibited comparable repellency against the booklouse relative to DEET.  相似文献

When purified subcellular fractions were prepared from rat liver and assayed for dolichol kinase activity using pig liver dolichol as a substrate, the microsomes were found to contain the highest specific activity and greater than 75% of the total actvity. With regard to substrate specificity, the microsomal enzyme showed a marked preference for saturation of the α-isoprene: dolichol-16 and -19 were 2.5-fold more active than the corresponding polyprenols. For a given class of prenol, the 16 and 19 isoprenologs exhibited similar activity, whereas the 11 isoprenolog appeared less active. The enzyme was twice as active against the naturally occurring polyprenol-16 (α-cis-isoprene) compared to synthetic α-trans-polyprenol-16. Taken together, the data indicate that the α-isoprene specificity follows the order: saturated>cis>trans. In addition, all-trans-2,3-dihydrosolanesol was not a substrate, suggesting that at least one cis isoprene residue is required.  相似文献

The series of imidazoldine-2-thiones 2 and tetrahydropyrimidine-2-thiones 3 were discovered as inhibitor of α-MSH-induced melanin production in melanoma B16 cells. The primary bioassay showed that 1-(4-ethylbenzyl)-tetrahydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thione 3e (>100% inhibition at 10 μM, IC50 = 1.2 μM) and 1-(4-tert-butylbenzyl)-tetrahydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thione 3f (>100% inhibition at 10 μM, IC50 = 0.76 μM) exhibited potent inhibitory effect against α-MSH-induced melanin production. Compounds 3 inhibit the biosynthesis of tyrosinase without affecting its catalytic activity in melanogenesis.  相似文献

Biological control of larval mosquitoes is in great demand due to the development of resistance against synthetic insecticides, environmental toxicity and the inability to protect habitats from further oviposition. In the present study, three botanical essential oils (BEOs) – citronella, eucalyptus, and pine oils – were formulated for the assessment of larvicidal and oviposition repellent efficacies against Culex quinquefasciatus Say, the filaria vector. The GC–MS profiling of BEOs showed the presence of 16 – 19 compounds covering 87.7–93% of oil composition. The resistance status of Culex quinquefasciatus population was evaluated with temephos (LC50 = 0.001 ppm, LC90 = 0.01 ppm). Larval bioassay of emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulations prepared from eucalyptus and pine oils showed promising efficacy (LC50 = 22.7 and 23.2 ppm) and LC90 (63.8 and 62.4 ppm) compared to citronella oil EC (LC50 = 43.4 ppm and LC90 = 199.0 ppm). The field trials of eucalyptus + pine (1:1 ratio) EC showed 100% larval mortality for 3 weeks at 300 ppm compared to 2 weeks of individual oils. Further, the oviposition attraction index (OAI) for ECs of eucalyptus, pine, and their combination showed complete protection of breeding habitats from oviposition at 1st week and ?0.9 to ?1.0 OAI at 2nd week with slight reduction to ?0.5 at 3rd week. Citronella EC provided shortest larvicidal and oviposition repellent efficacy under the field conditions. The promising mosquitocidal activities of EC formulations of eucalyptus and pine or their combination suggest them as potential biocontrol vector control candidates over citronella oil.  相似文献
