描述了中国石豆兰属Bulbophyllum一新种——天贵卷瓣兰(Bulbophyllum tianguii K.Y.Lang & D.Luo),并提供墨线图。该种产于广西乐业县,与富宁卷瓣兰B.funingense Z.H.Tsi & S.C.Chen外貌颇相似,但中萼片先端渐尖并具3 mm长的芒,侧萼片宽4~4.5 mm,花瓣先端渐尖并具1.5 mm长的芒,唇盘具2条肉质、具缘毛的纵脊,可与后者明显区别。     

陕西鸟巢兰属一新种--太白山鸟巢兰

对中国陕西产的兰科新种太白山鸟巢兰Neottia taibaishanensis P H．Yang ＆ K．Y．Lang作了描述和绘图。本新种与尖唇鸟巢兰N acuminata相似,但整个植株为灰黑色,花序轴被贴伏银灰色长柔毛,萼片、花瓣和唇瓣灰黑色而边缘为灰白色,唇瓣宽倒卵形或近圆形,先端具短尖而不同。     

Myocardial function during hypoxia: Effects of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and different buffers

Stimulated rabbit left atria in various buffer solutions [bicarbonate, Tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (Tris), or both] in the presence or absence of 0.84 (6%) dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) were subjected to mild or severe hypoxia. Contractile strength and baseline tone changes were measured and analyzed. Oxygen consumption of right and left atria was measured before and after hypoxia in the above mentioned solutions. Results indicate (1) that DMSO allows cardiac muscle to maintain contractility during hypoxia, (2) that the absence of bicarbonate during hypoxia compromises tissue function, and (3) that Tris can exhibit toxic effects which are increased in the presence of DMSO.     

Paeonia cathayana D. Y. Hong & K. Y. Pan,a new tree peony,with revision of P. suffruticosa ssp. yinpingmudan

Molecular data and new additional morphological data suggest that the two tree peonies, based on which Paeonia suffruticosa ssp. yinpingmudan was described as new, belong to two entities, the one from Anhui (K. Y. Pan and Z. W. Xie 9701, the type) being a member of P. ostii, while the other from Song Xian, Henan Province (D. Y. Hong et al. H97010) being a new taxon. P. suffruticosa ssp. yinpingmudan is here reduced as a synonym of P. ostii, and P. cathayana D. Y. Hong & K. Y. Pan is described as new based on the specimen from Henan. The new species is closely related to P. ostii and P. jishanensis, but it differs from the former in having lower leaves with 9 leaflets and petals rose, while from the latter in having leaflets glabrous, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, less lobed, sepals all caudate at the apex and petals rose. 牡丹一新种——中原牡丹,及银屏牡丹的订正

分子证据和新增加的形态证据显示,银屏牡丹Paeonia suffruticosa ssp．yinpingmudan作为新亚种发表时所依据的两份标本实为两个实体,产自安徽巢湖的（潘开玉和谢中稳9701,模式）实为凤丹户P.ostii的成员,而产自河南嵩县的（洪德元等H97010）实为一个新分类群。本文把P.suffruticosa ssp．yinpingmudan处理为P．ostii的异名,并依据河南的标本描述了一个新种——中原牡丹P.cathayana D．Y Hong＆K．Y.Pan。中原牡丹与风丹和矮牡丹P.jishanensis近缘,区别在于前者下部叶有ll-15片小叶,花白色：后者小叶背面有毛,裂片多,萼片顶端圆钝,花白色。     

In vitro activation of yeast pro-carboxypeptidase Y expressed as inclusion bodies in Escherichia coli

The genes encoding pro-carboxypeptidase Ys (pro-CPYs) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Hansenula polymorpha were cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. Most of the expressed pro-CPY was present in the form of inclusion bodies, accounting for about 35% of the total cellular protein. The inclusion bodies solubilized in 6 M guanidinum chloride were renatured by dilution 1:60 into renaturation buffer. Further refolding and activation were followed by the addition of 60 g ml_–1 proteinase K into the diluted solution. The specific activities of in vitro activated S. cerevisiae and H. polymorpha CPYs were found to be similar, representing about 25% of that of native S. cerevisiae CPY.     

四川西部川赤芍野生居群的表型多样性分析

为揭示四川西部川赤芍〔Paeonia anomala subsp.veitchii(Lynch)D.Y.Hong et K.Y.Pan〕表型性状的变异规律,对川赤芍6个野生居群的株高、茎基粗、叶片和花部性状等15个表型性状进行了比较;并在此基础上,对各表型性状进行了方差分析、变异系数(CV)分析、离散系数(R′)分析、Shannon-Weaver遗传多样性指数(H′)分析、主成分分析和聚类分析.结果表明:川赤芍15个表型性状在居群间均存在极显著差异;除顶小叶长宽比外,其他14个表型性状在居群内均存在极显著或显著差异.15个表型性状在居群内的F值均明显小于居群间.15个表型性状中,每枝着花量的CV平均值最大(33.68%),花瓣数的CV平均值最小(11.26%);6个居群中,阿坝州小金县两河乡(P1)和阿坝州小金县四姑娘山镇(P2)居群的CV平均值较大,阿坝州金川县万林乡(P4)和阿坝州马尔康县卓克基乡(P5)居群的CV平均值居中,阿坝州汶川县卧龙自然保护区(P3)和甘孜州炉霍县充古乡(P6)居群的CV平均值最小.15个表型性状中,株高的R′平均值最大(64.48%),萼片数和苞片数的R′平均值均最小(37.50%);6个居群中,P2居群的R′平均值最大(56.66%),P3居群的R′平均值最小(43.65%).川赤芍6个居群15个表型性状的CV值和R′值的平均值分别为18.70%和49.80%.川赤芍15个表型性状和6个居群的H′平均值均较高,分别为1.6475和1.4510.主成分分析结果显示:叶片形态和花部特征是川赤芍表型变异的主要因子.聚类分析结果显示:在欧氏距离7.12处,川赤芍6个居群被分成2支,其中,P6居群单独聚为一支,其他5个居群聚为另一支,表明生境相似的居群更早地聚在一起.研究结果显示:四川西部川赤芍表型性状在居群间变异丰富,这与其叶片形态、花部特征及生境关系密切.     

元宝山冷杉群落种内与种间竞争的数量关系

元宝山冷杉 (AbiesyuanbaoshanensisY .J .LuetL .K .Fu)特产广西 ,是种群数量极少的濒危物种。根据调查资料 ,采用Hegyi提出的单木竞争指数模型CI=∑Nj=1 (Dj/Di)·1Lij对元宝山冷杉群落的种间、种内竞争强度进行定量分析。结果表明 :元宝山冷杉种内竞争较之与其伴生树种间的竞争剧烈 ;竞争木对对象木的竞争强度与对象木的胸高直径服从幂函数关系CI=ADB,竞争强度随对象木个体的增大而减小。当元宝山冷杉胸高直径达到 35～ 40cm后 ,竞争强度变化不明显。利用模型预测了元宝山冷杉种内和种间的竞争强度

Thomas Jefferson's Y chromosome belongs to a rare European lineage

We have characterized the Y chromosome carried by President Thomas Jefferson, the general rarity of which supported the idea that he, or a patrilineal relative, fathered the last son of his slave Sally Hemings. It belongs to haplogroup K2, a lineage representing only approximately 1% of chromosomes worldwide, and most common in East Africa and the Middle East. Phylogenetic network analysis of its Y-STR (short tandem repeat) haplotype shows that it is most closely related to an Egyptian K2 haplotype, but the presence of scattered and diverse European haplotypes within the network is nonetheless consistent with Jefferson's patrilineage belonging to an ancient and rare indigenous European type. This is supported by the observation that two of 85 unrelated British men sharing the surname Jefferson also share the President's Y-STR haplotype within haplogroup K2. Our findings represent a cautionary tale in showing the difficulty of assigning individual ancestry based on a Y-chromosome haplotype, particularly for rare lineages where population data are scarce.
