Ectoparasites have been investigated on gills of the ruff, perch, white bream, roach, bream, ide, and European cisco from the Pleshcheevo lake. 13 parasite species were found: Dactylogyrus falcatus, D. distinguendus, D. cornoides, D. cornu, D. sphyrna, D. robustus, D. amphibothrium, Ancyrocephalus paradoxus, Argulus foliaceus, Ergasilus sieboldi, Achtheres percarum, Ancyrocephalus percae, and Rhipidocotyle companula. A reliable negative correlation between the number of monogeneans An. paradoxus and the copepods Ac. percarum on the perch. D. falcatus, the specific monogenean of the bream, was found on the roach. The comparison of the obtained data with those of 1939 has shown the decrease of oxyphilic copepods E. seiboldi, that prove the increasing eutrophication.  相似文献

Perch Perca fluviatilis and roach Rutilus rutilus were caught at various locations around Lake Constance (Bodensee). Infection of perch and roach with the eyeflukes Diplostomum spathaceum and Tylodelphis clavata was greatest in the western location (Bottighofen). The varied occurrence of parasite species at different locations indicated that maximum interchange between fish populations was slight. Whitefish Coregonus lavaretus migrating up the River Rhine were less infected with both the tapeworm Proteocephalus exiguus and the copepod Ergasilus sieboldi than whitefish from the middle of the lake. Some of the parasites had already left their hosts. Newly established infections were not found in migrating whitefish.  相似文献

An analysis of the diet of 0+ perch, smelt and roach caught at night of the pelagial of a mesotrophic lake showed that their food was composed mainly of herbivorous and predatory cladocerans, copepods and Chaoborus larvae during summer, and of herbivorous cladocerans and copepods during October. An analysis of habitat use by juveniles revealed separation among the species: roach occurred in the upper, perch and smelt in the deeper water layers. Food and habitat were alternatively partitioned among the juveniles. In early summer the lowest food overlap between perch and smelt coincided with high habitat overlap. In October high food overlap between perch and smelt corresponded with low habitat overlap. Smelt and roach fry used common food resources throughout the season, but they were segregated in habitat.  相似文献

The forage base and the food selectivity of 0+ representatives of six abundant freshwater fish species were studied in a shallow, eutrophic Dutch lake. Most species relied on the zooplankton; the size-selective predation in early summer was directed to the smaller copepods and in late summer to larger cladocerans and copepods than concurrently present in the lake. Daphnia spp. and cyclopoid copepods were the main zooplankton taxa for smelt, perch and pikeperch. Energetically, the large cladoceran, Leptodora kindtii, was especially important for pikeperch. Bream and roach preyed upon smaller zooplankton than the other fish species. The influence of the zooplankton predation by abundant 0+ fish was clear from a small mean Daphnia size in September; this size is to be used as an indicator in fishery management. Neomysis integer, the most important macrofauna species, was consumed by perch, pikeperch and ruffe; pikeperch was most size-selective in this respect. The 0+ ruffe was à typically benthivorous fish. Only the 0+ pikeperch became piscivorous, especially in years when smelt was abundant.  相似文献

The biology of pike, Esox lucius L., in a southern productive lowland lake is described. Scales and opercular bones were difficult to read and interpret, and growth estimated had perforce to be based on scale readings. Growth of Slapton pike is average and intermediate between recorded extremes. Both male and female pike reached maximum condition in February, just prior to spawning. The population of pike of over 450 mm fork length in the lake was estimated at 870·6 ± 389·3 in 1975, and 950·4 ± 143.3 in 1976/77. This leads to the conclusion that the pike population has one of the highest biomasses per surface area of water ever recorded. Number of pike per unit area of surface was also high, despite the fact that a significant proportion of the population (fish under 450 mm) could not be adequately sampled. Mean instantaneous mortality rate was 0·53, and mean instantaneous survival rate was 0·59. The roach provided the main item of diet of the pike, with perch taken less readily. Immature pike ate a significant proportion of invertebrates, but roach was again a common feature of the diet of even small fish. Two spawning migrations were identified; at other times of the year, pike were non territorial. The majority of pike spawned in March. Fecundity of a sample of females was assessed. Overall sex ratio was 1:1.  相似文献

The presence of and mechanisms behind density-dependent growth and resource limitation in larval and juvenile stages of organisms with high mortality such as fish are much debated. We compare observed consumption and growth rates with maximum consumption and growth rates to study the extent of resource limitation in young-of-the-year (YOY) roach (Rutilus rutilus) and perch (Perca fluviatilis). Diet, habitat use, consumption rate and growth rate were measured under varying YOY fish densities over 2 years in four lakes. In the first year, YOY roach and perch were studied under allopatric conditions. Experimental addition of perch roe in the second year also allowed study of YOY of the two species under sympatric conditions in two of the lakes. The diet of YOY roach was dominated by cladoceran zooplankton and YOY roach habitat use was restricted to the shore region in both years. This restricted habitat use did not involve any cost in foraging gain in the first year as consumption and growth rates were very close to maximum rates. During the second year, when the two species coexisted, resources were limited in late season, more so in the littoral than in the pelagic habitat in one lake while the reverse was the case in the other lake. The diet of YOY perch was also dominated by zooplankton, and with increasing perch size the proportion of macroinvertebrate prey in the diet increased. After hatching, YOY perch first utilized the pelagic habitat restricting their habitat use to the shore after 1 to several weeks in the pelagic zone. During the larval period, perch were not resource limited whereas juvenile perch were resource limited in both years. The fact that YOY perch were more resource limited than YOY roach was related to the higher handling capacity and lower attack rate of perch relative to roach, rendering perch more prone to resource limitation. Estimates of resource limitation based on consumption rates and growth rates yielded similar results. This supports the adequacy of our approach to measure resource limitation and suggests that this method is useful for studying resource limitation in organisms with indeterminate growth. Our results support the view that density-dependent growth is rare in larval stages. We suggest that density-dependent growth was absent because larval perch and roach were feeding at maximum levels over a wide range of larvae densities. The distribution and diet of age 0+ fish were studied in the deep canyon‐shaped Římov Reservoir (Czech Republic), which is characterized by a longitudinal trophic gradient. During late summer of two years, 0+ fish were sampled from inshore and offshore habitats along the longitudinal reservoir axis. Offshore catches of 0+ fish from the surface layer were dominated by roach (Rutilus rutilus ), bream (Abramis brama ) and perch (Perca fluviatilis ), whereas in the deeper open water perch predominated. Inshore catches of 0+ fish were constituted mainly by perch and roach. The proportions of roach in the inshore catches were highest at the upper and most eutrophic part of the reservoir, whereas the proportions of perch in the inshore catches were higher at the downstream areas. Total catches of both inshore and offshore 0+ fish increased upstream in the reservoir. Offshore 0+ perch were of consistently smaller size than inshore 0+ perch. Inshore 0+ perch had significantly smaller size at the upstream reservoir part than at the downstream, more lacustrine regions. The diet of both inshore and offshore 0+ fish consisted predominantly of crustacean zooplankton. Perch diet was generally dominated both by cladocerans and copepods, whereas roach diet consisted chiefly of cladocerans. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Feeding selectivity and efficiency of young-of-the-year European perch and roach were compared under field and laboratory conditions. In laboratory experiments, the importance of prey evasiveness versus prey movement conspicuousness for fish selectivity was evaluated with respect to changing Cladocera/Copepoda prey ratio. Feeding efficiency was additionally investigated in relation to feeding time (5, 10, 20 min) and prey density (approx. 50, 200, 700 ind. L−1). In Říov Reservoir, the diet of both fish species was nearly exclusively composed of crustacean zooplankton. In roach, diet shifted from rotifers and bosminids in May, towards Daphnia sp. and Leptodora kindtii in June and July. Daphnia contributed almost exclusively to the roach diet since June, composing on average more than 94% of total prey. Cyclopoid copepods, occurred in the roach’s diet only on the first sampling date; later on both cyclopoid and calanoid copepods were completely absent. On the other hand, copepods played an important role in the diet of perch. In early and mid-June when their share in the zooplankton was particularly high, copepods contributed by more than 50% to the diet of perch. Although their contribution dropped with their decline in zooplankton in June/July, by the end of July they again comprised about one third of perch’s diet. In both fish species, the increase in numbers of cladocerans in their diet was related to increase in SL. In roach, the numbers of consumed prey were doubled every twenty days during the investigated period. In perch the increase was not so consistent, but significantly higher efficiency of perch was reported on three out of six sampling dates. In laboratory experiments, roach showed a distinct avoidance for copepods and a preference for cladocerans. Both prey categories were only fed non-selectively when they dominated the prey mixture. Perch selectivity was more diversified. Contrary to roach, perch were fed copepods non-selectively on a balanced prey ratio. Further, with an increasing share of Cladocera, a situation resembling that of roach and Copepoda was avoided. However, when the share of copepods in the prey mixture dropped below ten percent, they were consumed non-selectively and with their ongoing decline in the prey mixture their preference even increased. Feeding efficiency differed significantly between perch and roach when foraging on copepods exclusively or on a prey mixture where copepods predominated. In the short time feeding experiment (5 min) with copepods, perch consumed on average 5.9 times more prey than roach. Although roach increased their success with increasing time it was still 1.7 times greater than for perch in the long time feeding experiment (20 min). Total numbers of prey consumed were positively affected by prey density and feeding time. With increasing feeding time, the consumption rate generally declined. With a fourfold increase in feeding time, the numbers of consumed prey increased on average only two times. Only in roach feeding on copepods did the numbers of prey consumed per minute of feeding increase with increasing feeding time. However, the overall numbers were low. Differences in feeding selectivity and efficiency between perch and roach juveniles were found to be significant both in the field and laboratory experiments. In roach, selectivity was determined solely by prey evasiveness. By contrast, perch’s selectivity was influenced by prey movement conspicuousness; prey escape abilities did not play an important role. Perch were more efficient foragers on evasive prey, but its feeding efficiency for non-evasive prey was not lower than that of roach. According to our observations, we suggest feeding behaviour to be responsible for the roach’s inefficiency in capturing evasive copepods.  相似文献

Ergasilus megaceros (Copepoda: Ergasilidae) was recovered from the nasal fossae (lamellae) of the olfactory sac in 1 (1.8%) of 56 sea lampreys, Petromyzon marinus Linne, 1758, collected in May 2002 from the Cheboygan River, Michigan. Although the sea lamprey is a new host record for E. megaceros, this fish species may not be a preferred host because of its low prevalence. Ergasilus megaceros is the second ergasilid species reported from the sea lamprey in North America. This is the third report of an ergasilid species infecting the nasal fossae of fishes in North America, with E. rhinos being the only other species reported from this site.  相似文献

Horizontal and vertical heterogeneity as a result of size‐structured processes are important factors influencing indirect effects in food webs. In a whole‐lake experiment covering 5 years, we added the intermediate consumer roach (Rutilus rutilus) to two out of four lakes previously inhabited by the omnivorous top predator perch (Perca fluviatilis). We focused our study on the direct consumption effect of roach presence on zooplankton (and indirectly phytoplankton) versus the indirect effect of roach on zooplankton (and phytoplankton) mediated via effects on perch reproductive performance. The patterns in zooplankton and phytoplankton abundances were examined in relation to population density of roach and perch including young‐of‐the‐year (YOY) perch in the light of non‐equilibrium dynamics. The presence of roach resulted in changed seasonal dynamics of zooplankton with generally lower biomasses in May–June and higher biomasses in July–August in roach lakes compared to control lakes. Roach presence affected perch recruitment negatively and densities of YOY perch were on average higher in control lakes than in treatment lakes. In years when perch recruitment did not differ between lakes as a result of experimental addition of perch eggs, total zooplankton biomass was lower in treatment lakes than in control lakes. Phytoplankton biomass showed a tendency to increase in roach lakes compared to control lakes. Within treatment variation in response variables was related to differences in lake morphometry in treatment lakes. Analyses of the trophic dynamics of each lake separately showed strong cascading effects of both roach and YOY perch abundance on zooplankton and phytoplankton dynamics. Consideration of the long transients in the dynamics of top predators (fish) in aquatic systems that are related to their long life span involving ontogenetic niche shifts is essential for making relevant interpretations of experimental perturbations. This conclusion is further reinforced by the circumstance that the intrinsic dynamics of fish populations may in many cases involve high amplitude dynamics with long time lags.  相似文献

Between February 1989 and August 1990, the upper Thames estuary contained 23 species of fish. Fish numbers were higher and relatively constant in the uppermost part of the estuary. Number of species was augmented in summer from fresh water and from downstream, coinciding with high temperature, low flow and high salinity. The eight most abundant species contributed to 98·5% of the total number. Flounder Pleuronectes flesus , dace Leuciscus leuciscus and perch Perca fluviatilis , recruited from May to August, and common goby Pomatoschistus microps , roach Rutilus rutilus and chub Leuciscus cephalus , from August to November. The upper estuary (salinity 0·34–2·96 p.s.u.) formed a species transition area between the freshwater but salinity-resistant roach, chub, and gudgeon Gobio gobio upstream, and the estuarine eurhyhaline common goby and flounder downstream. The three-spined stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus and cyprinids were more abundant at upstream while perch was more abundant at downstream sites. High abundances of gudgeon, chub and roach were associated with high transparency and dissolved oxygen and low salinity, while high abundances of perch were associated with high salinity and low transparency. Dace and three-spined stickleback were associated with high dissolved oxygen and low pH, and common goby with high pH. Flounder showed no clear preferences.  相似文献

Achtheres percarum infection on the gills of perch Perca fluviatilis was studied from four lakes in central Finland in monthly or bimonthly samples of fish during a 3-year period. The highest prevalence and intensity of infection (30%, 0.7 copepods/fish) were found in the oligotrophic, unpolluted Lake Peurunka and the lowest (6%, 0.1 copepods/fish) in the eutrophic and polluted Lake Vatia. According to hierarchical loglinear models the prevalence of A. percarum infection was related to the lake, but not to the year. However, when logit models were constructed such that two 'seasons' ('cold' and 'warm' periods) were included, it was apparent that the year also influenced the prevalence of A. percarum , but only during the 'warm' period of the year. Achtheres percarum had an age dependent relationship only in Lake Peurunka, where the infection increased with increasing age of the fish. Some developmental stages of A. percarum parasitizing the gills of perch are described. Data on the seasonal occurrence of A. percarum developmental stages are given and it is suggested that at least two generations are produced annually.  相似文献

SUMMARY. Age and growth rates of the coarse fish of thirty-nine gravel-pit lakes in south-east England are compared. Species composition was very variable, the commonest species being roach ( Rutilus rutilus ), bream ( Abramis brama ), tench ( Tinca tinca ), perch ( Perca fluviatilis ) and pike ( Esox lucius ). Two main kinds of fish community were identifiable from the survey: (1) those consisting of a mixture of cyprinids, usually roach and bream; and (2) those in which cyprinids were rare or absent and the fish community was composed of perch and pike. The majority of the lakes fell into the first category. Comparison of growth curves derived by back-calculation showed that, in all species, variation occurred from lake to lake and from year to year. The majority of gravel-pit lake fishes had 'medium' growth rates when compared with published data by other workers on different waters. Seasonal growth of roach infected with plerocercoids of Ligula intestinalis was observed at monthly intervals. Annulus formation on the scales of these fish occurred at the onset of growth in May. The heavy Ligula burden in 89% of these fish had not caused the formation of any additional or false rings.  相似文献

In the Enonselkä and Laitialanselkä basins of Lake Vesijärvi, perch Perca fluviatilis and roach Rutilus rutilus were abundant in the littoral and in the pelagic zones throughout the summer. In the littoral zone, roach was always more numerous than perch, while perch dominated in the open water. Intraspecific diet overlap values were higher than interspecific values. In the pelagic zone, perch <155 mm fed mainly on the cladoceran Leptodora kindtii , while small bosminids were most important food items for roach. Large perch were piscivorous, feeding mainly on smelt Osmerus eperlanus . In the littoral zone small perch foraged on zooplankton and chironomid larvae and large perch on chironomids and fish (small perch). Small roach fed mainly on bosminids and detritus, while for roach <185 mm macrophytes ( Elodea Canadensis, Lemna trisulca ) were also of importance. Detritus was more common in the food of roach in Laitialanselkä than in Enonselkä. The slower growth rate of roach in Laitialanselkä compared with Enonselkä was probably connected with this. However, considering the latitude of the lake, the growth rate of both roach and perch was relatively fast in both basins. The results indicated that in a large lake both perch and roach are able to utilize effectively the different habitats and diverse food resources. By segregation in food resource utilization they are able to co-exist in large quantities, at the same time maintaining a relatively fast growth rate.  相似文献

Water quality in 16 Finnish lakes did not affect directly densely gill-rakered whitefish growth, except possibly in an acid (pH 4·9) lake, Iso Lehmaälampi, where acidity may have retarded the growth of whitefish. The density of roach affected whitefish growth in the second year of life: highest growth rates were in lakes without a roach population and lowest growth rates in lakes having strong roach populations. Competition by vendace also retarded the growth of young whitefish. The efficient mass removal of roach from a eutrophic lake was considered to have increased the growth rate of young whitefish. It is suggested that an examination of the fish species composition and relative abundance, as well as the growth of whitefish, can be used as an aid in predicting the success of stocking with whitefish.  相似文献

Four species of ergasilid copepods were collected from gill filaments of three species of fishes from Khor al-Zubair Lagoon, Iraq. The mugilid Liza subviridis hosted the new species Ergasilus iraquensis and Ergasilus pararostralis. Ergasilus synanceienis sp. n. was found on the synanceiid Leptosynanceia melanostigma(Day). The fourth species, Dermoergasilus varicoleus Ho, Jayarajan & Radhakrishnan, 1992 was found parasitizing the mugilid Liza abu, and is a new record for Iraq.  相似文献

The effect of time of stocking on the extent and source of mortality in 0+ year pike Esox lucius was investigated in a lake (20 ha) and a drainable pond (0·5 ha) using pike with alizarin marked otoliths. The results indicated that pike stocked late relative to the recruitment of native 0+ year pike fell victim to cannibalism from these larger individuals. This resulted in very low survival through the first growing season (<2%). Pike stocked early in the season exhibited significantly higher survival (>12%). Analyses of the size distribution of the alizarin marks from these fish revealed that the largest 0+ year pike exhibited by a factor of 3·3, higher survival than the average 0+ year pike in the lake. In order for large 0+ year pike to exhibit such high relative fitness a minimum of 69·7% of the original population must suffer size dependent mortality. In the pond the survival of the largest pike was by a factor of 4·2 higher than the average pike, and the corresponding size dependent mortality was 76·4%. The substantial size‐dependent mortality was most probably due to intra‐cohort cannibalism or habitat segregation between large and small 0+ year pike that exposes the small pike to predatory fishes in the open lake. Cannibalism exerts a major influence on the survival of 0+ year pike post‐stocking although the magnitude and origin differ in relation to stocking time.  相似文献

Feeding of fish in Lake Glubokoe   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
O. S. Boikova 《Hydrobiologia》1986,141(1-2):95-111
Lake Glubokoe is inhabited by 13 species of fish. The commonest are roach, bream, perch and ruff. Comparison of seine catches for 1950 and 1984 revealed a considerable decrease in the share of perch (from 31% to 2%) and ruff (from 18.5 to less than 0.1%) in 1984. The richest food resource in the lake is crustacean plankton. In summer, it is mostly consumed by roach. Estimation of the electivity shows that, unlike perch, roach selectively consumes small crustaceans (Bosmina and Polyphemus). Poor growth rate of all common species of fish points to their food limitation. In summer the diets of common species of fish are differentiated to a considerable extent. Of 36 pairs of combinations a high food overlap was found only in 2 cases: 1) O + perch and Leucaspius delineatus, 2) yearlings and adult roach. Low diet overlap in fish during intensive feeding in summer probably reflects a feedback between the volume and intensity of food competition. The populations of bream and ruff probably compete for chironomid larvae which inhabit the sublittoral, as perch, roach and Leucaspius delineatus probably do for large littoral insects. However, intraspecific competition appears to be more important than interspecific for the roach and bream populations (the two most numerous species in the lake).  相似文献
