Variance of Neutral Genetic Variances within and between Populations for a Quantitative Character 下载免费PDF全文
The variances of genetic variances within and between finite populations were systematically studied using a general multiple allele model with mutation in terms of identity by descent measures. We partitioned the genetic variances into components corresponding to genetic variances and covariances within and between loci. We also analyzed the sampling variance. Both transient and equilibrium results were derived exactly and the results can be used in diverse applications. For the genetic variance within populations, sigma 2 omega, the coefficient of variation can be very well approximated as [formula: see text] for a normal distribution of allelic effects, ignoring recurrent mutation in the absence of linkage, where m is the number of loci, N is the effective population size, theta 1(0) is the initial identity by descent measure of two genes within populations and t is the generation number. The first term is due to genic variance, the second due to linkage disequilibrium, and third due to sampling. In the short term, the variation is predominantly due to linkage disequilibrium and sampling; but in the long term it can be largely due to genic variance. At equilibrium with mutation [formula: see text] where u is the mutation rate. The genetic variance between populations is a parameter. Variance arises only among sample estimates due to finite sampling of populations and individuals. Background
The Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis Capitata (DIPTERA: Tephritidae) is a major agricultural pest in Argentina. One main cause for the success of non-contaminant control programs based on genetic strategies is compatibility between natural and laboratory germplasms.A comprehensive characterization of the fruit fly based on genetic studies and compatibility analysis was undertaken on two founder populations from the provinces of Buenos Aires and Mendoza, used in pioneering sterile male technique control programmes in our country. The locations are 1,000 km apart from each other.Methodology/Principal Findings
We compared the genetic composition of both populations based on cytological, physiological and morphological characterization. Compatibility studies were performed in order to determine the presence of isolation barriers. Results indicate that the Buenos Aires germplasm described previously is partially different from that of the Mendoza population. Both laboratory colonies are a reservoir of mutational and cytological polymorphisms. Some sexual chromosome variants such as the XL and the YL resulting from attachment of a B-chromosome to the X-chromosome or Y-chromosome behave as a lethal sex-linked factor. Our results also show incompatibility between both germplasms and pre-zygotic isolation barriers between them. Our evidence is consistent with the fact that polymorphisms are responsible for the lack of compatibility.Conclusions
The genetic control mechanism should be directly produced in the germplasm of the target population in order to favour mating conditions. This is an additional requirement for the biological as well as economic success of control programs based on genetic strategies such as the sterile insect technique. The analysis of representative samples also revealed natural auto-control mechanisms which could be used in modifying pest population dynamics. 相似文献4.
The Mexican Sheartail (Doricha eliza), an endangered hummingbird, is endemic to Mexico where two populations have a disjunct distribution. One population is distributed along the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula whereas the other is mostly restricted to central Veracruz. Despite their disjunct distribution, previous work has failed to detect morphological or behavioral differences between these populations. Here we use variation in morphology, mtDNA and nuDNA sequences to determine the degree of morphological and molecular divergence between populations, their divergence time, and historical demography. We use species distribution modeling and niche divergence tests to infer the relative roles of vicariance and dispersal in driving divergence in the genus. Our Bayesian and maximum likelihood phylogenetic analyses revealed that Doricha eliza populations form a monophyletic clade and support their sister relationship with D. enicura. We found marked genetic differentiation, with reciprocal monophyly of haplotypes and highly restricted gene flow, supporting a history of isolation over the last 120,000 years. Genetic divergence between populations is consistent with the lack of overlap in environmental space and slight morphological differences between males. Our findings indicate that the divergence of the Veracruz and Yucatan populations is best explained by a combination of a short period of isolation exacerbated by subsequent divergence in climate conditions, and that rather than vicariance, the two isolated ranges of D. eliza are the product of recent colonization and divergence in isolation. 相似文献

the relationship between these Japanese populations and indigenous South American populations was examined. Phylogenetic trees
constructed by maximum parsimony and neighbor joining methods indicated four major groups: Group A: Trinidadian populations;
Group B: the northernmost Okinawa populations; Group C: the northern Okinawa populations; Group D: Shimoda populations and
the remainder of Trinidadian, Venezuelan, and southern Okinawa populations. Considerable genetic differences were observed
among the haplotypes within each Okinawa population similar to that found among haplotypes of different native populations,
but not within the Shimoda population, because each Okinawa population included haplotypes belonging to different groups.
Genetic differences between Groups B, C, and D might reflect those of the introduced lineages; however, these differences
might not result from the divergence after introduction events. These results suggested that multiple introductions of different

Epistasis and the Genetic Divergence of Photoperiodism between Populations of the Pitcher-Plant Mosquito, Wyeomyia Smithii 下载免费PDF全文
Parallel crosses between each of two southern (ancestral) and one northern (derived) population of the pitcher-plant mosquito, Wyeomyia smithii, were made to determine the genetic components of population divergence in critical photoperiod, a phenological trait that measures adaptation to seasonality along a climatic gradient. Joint scaling tests were used to analyze means and variances of first- and second-generation hybrids in order to determine whether nonadditive genetic variance, especially epistatic variance, contributed to divergence in critical photoperiod. In both crosses, digenic epistatic effects were highly significant, indicating that genetic divergence cannot have resulted solely from differences in additively acting loci. For one cross that could be tested directly for such effects, higher order epistasis and/or linkage did not contribute to the divergence of critical photoperiod between the constituent populations. 相似文献

无锡水蜜桃品种群体是典型的南方桃优势群体,为研究比较该群体的遗传多样性,以41个无锡水蜜桃品种和91个其他桃品种为试材,利用25对位于不同连锁群上的SSR引物评价群体特征,并分析了群体内外的亲缘关系.群体遗传多样性比较结果表明:无锡水蜜桃具有较高的多态性位点百分率(71.74%),仅次于华北品种群(74.64%);该品种群体具有中等程度的遗传多样性,Nei′s遗传多样性指数(He)和Shannon信息指数(H0)分别为0.2068和0.3165,两个指数值均不及华北、西南、华南以及西方国家群体.群体内聚类结果表明:无锡水蜜桃群体内并不存在明显的遗传分化,但在相似系数为0.83时,无锡水蜜桃的主栽品种聚于同一组.群体间聚类结果表明:无锡水蜜桃与上海水蜜桃群体间亲缘关系最近,相似系数为0.994,其次是日本桃群体(0.985)和浙江桃群体(0.971),这4个类群在聚类图中较早的聚为一类,这与无锡水蜜桃的地理起源和演化相符. 相似文献

Advances in genetic technologies raise a multitude of ethical issues, some of which give rise to novel dilemmas for medical practice. One of the most controversial problems arising in clinical genetics is that of confidentiality and who may disclose genetic health information. This paper considers the question of when it is appropriate for health professionals to disclose clinically significant genetic information without patient consent. Existing ethical principles offer little guidance in relation to this issue. We build on suggestions that genetic information may be viewed as collective or shared information, and we introduce the concept of ‘familial comity’ as a fresh way to consider the issues.Competing Interests: None declared. This case study examines the pollen dispersal distance, pollen dispersal patterns and intra‐family genetic structure for isolated trees in pastures of the bat‐pollinated Neotropical tree species Hymenaea stigonocarpa using six microsatellite loci and parentage analysis. The sampling included 28 grouped trees (referred to as the population) and six isolated trees in pastureland along a highway in Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. From the population, we sampled 137 seeds from 12 seed‐trees, and from the isolated trees, we sampled 34 seeds from two seed‐trees. The results showed that pollen was dispersed over long distances (reaching 7353 m) and therefore the spatially isolated trees were not reproductively isolated. The pollen immigration rate in the population was also high (31%). Isolated trees presented a higher selfing rate (s=26%) than trees in the population (s=12%), suggesting that the spatial isolation of the trees increased selfing. However, selfing was responsible for only 30 percent of the inbreeding in offspring and mating among relatives was 70 percent. In the population, excluding selfing, ca 72 percent of the pollen was dispersed over distances <1000 m (average: 860 m). For the two isolated seed‐trees, excluding selfing, the average pollen dispersal distance was 5229 m. The results demonstrate that although pollen can be dispersed over long distances for H. stigonocarpa isolated trees, a high percentage of pollen comes from the same tree (selfing) and mating was correlated. Most of the genetic divergence that currently separates populations of Homo sapiens must have arisen during that long period when the local village (or band) was the basic unit of biological evolution. Studies of tribally intact Amerindian groups exhibiting such small-group organization have demonstrated marked genetic divergence between nearby villages. Some of this genetic radiation can be attributed to the effects of random genetic drift over time within these small demes. Some of it, however, might be better ascribed to the consequences of nonrandom genetic assortment at the time of village fission, a recurring event for such groups. Even random genetic assortment at the time of fission would lead to some genetic divergence, due to the finite size of the parent gene pool. We term the genetic consequences of random assortment the random fission effect. Routinely, village fission occurs along family lines, leading to even greater genetic divergence between the daughter villages. We use the term lineal fission effect to describe the genetic consequences of nonrandom assortment and contrast these results with those derived from random assortment.——A formal treatment of random and lineal fission effects is developed, first for the single-locus case, then for the multiple-locus extension. Using this formulation, three Yanomama fission events were examined. Fission in the Yanomama often involves a great deal of mutual hostility between the two factions, so that subsequent gene flow between the two daughter villages is minimal. The first two examples are typical of the Yanomama behavior norm, and are accompanied by a minimum of subsequent gene flow between the daughter villages. In these two cases, the observed divergence values are very large and are also very unlikely under random fission. The lineal fission effect is pronounced. The net impact of lineal fission is to reduce the effective size of the village at the time of fission by a factor of four, relative to expectation from random fission. The third example, however, involved an unusually amicable split of a village, followed by free genetic exchange between the fission products. This "friendly fission" yields an observed divergence value not much in excess of the expectation from random fission.—The long-term consequences of such fission bottlenecks in effective population size are discussed for both intra- and inter-tribal genetic diversity. It appears that the rate of genetic divergence for tribal and subtribal groups may have been somewhat greater than would be expected from classical drift arguments. 相似文献

Aim We investigate spatial and temporal patterns of diversification within the Neotropical avifauna using the phylogenetic history of parrots traditionally belonging to the genus Pionopsitta Bonaparte 1854. This genus has long been of interest for those studying Neotropical biogeography and diversity, as it encompasses species that occur in most Neotropical forest areas of endemism. Location The Neotropical lowland forests in South and Central America. Methods Phylogenetic relationships were investigated for all species of the genus Pionopsitta and five other short‐tailed parrot genera using complete sequences of the mitochondrial genes cyt b and ND2 as well as 26 plumage characters. The resulting phylogeny was used to test the monophyly of the genus, investigate species limits, and as a framework for reconstructing their historical biogeography and patterns of diversification. Results We found that the genus Pionopsitta, as previously defined, is not monophyletic and thus the Chocó, Central American and Amazonian species will now have to be placed in the genus Gypopsitta. The molecular and morphological phylogenies are largely congruent, but disagree on the position of one of the Amazon basin taxa. Using molecular sequence data, we estimate that species within Gypopsitta diversified between 8.7 and 0.6 Ma, with the main divergences occurring between 3.3 and 6.4 Ma. These temporal results are compared to other taxa showing similar vicariance patterns. Main conclusions The results suggest that diversification in Gypopsitta was influenced mainly by geotectonic events, marine transgressions and river dynamics, whereas Quaternary glacial cycles of forest change seem to have played a minor role in the origination of the currently recognized species. 相似文献

A recurrent topic in phylogenomics is the combination of various sequence alignments to reconstruct a tree that describes the evolutionary relationships within a group of species. However, such approach has been criticized for not being able to properly represent the topological diversity found among gene trees. To evaluate the representativeness of species trees based on concatenated alignments, we reconstruct several fungal species trees and compare them with the complete collection of phylogenies of genes encoded in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae genome. We found that, despite high levels of among-gene topological variation, the species trees do represent widely supported phylogenetic relationships. Most topological discrepancies between gene and species trees are concentrated in certain conflicting nodes. We propose to map such information on the species tree so that it accounts for the levels of congruence across the genome. We identified the lack of sufficient accuracy of current alignment and phylogenetic methods as an important source for the topological diversity encountered among gene trees. Finally, we discuss the implications of the high levels of topological variation for phylogeny-based orthology prediction strategies. 相似文献

为阐明小尺度范围内濒危物种孑遗植物中华桫椤种群的遗传多样性,保护和恢复种质资源,本文采用ISSR分子标记技术对云南屏边大围山的大围山红旗水库和大围山山谷2个中华桫椤种群的遗传多样性进行分析。结果表明用从100个随机引物中筛选出的20个能高产稳定扩增的ISSR引物对2个群体共57个样品进行扩增,共获得132个可分析位点,其中大围山红旗水库的多态性位点83个,占62.87%,而大围山山谷的多态性位点97个,多态位点百分率(P)为73.48%,两者Nei's基因多样性分别为0.2614和0.2832,Shannon's信息指数分别为0.3762和0.4135,两个种群的遗传分化系数Gst为0.0701,分析结果表明中华桫椤种群内的遗传多样性较高,但两种群间的遗传分化不明显。本研究结果将对中华桫椤自然群体的保育和管理具有重要意义。 相似文献

Background and Aims
Solving relationships of recently diverged taxa, poses a challenge due to shared polymorphism and weak reproductive barriers. Multiple lines of evidence are needed to identify independently evolving lineages. This is especially true of long-lived species with large effective population sizes, and slow rates of lineage sorting. North American pines are an interesting group to test this multiple approach. Our aim is to combine cytoplasmic genetic markers with environmental information to clarify species boundaries and relationships of the species complex of Pinus flexilis, Pinus ayacahuite, and Pinus strobiformis.Methods
Mitochondrial and chloroplast sequences were combined with previously obtained microsatellite data and contrasted with environmental information to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships of the species complex. Ecological niche models were compared to test if ecological divergence is significant among species.Key Results and Conclusion
Separately, both genetic and ecological evidence support a clear differentiation of all three species but with different topology, but also reveal an ancestral contact zone between P. strobiformis and P. ayacahuite. The marked ecological differentiation of P. flexilis suggests that ecological speciation has occurred in this lineage, but this is not reflected in neutral markers. The inclusion of environmental traits in phylogenetic reconstruction improved the resolution of internal branches. We suggest that combining environmental and genetic information would be useful for species delimitation and phylogenetic studies in other recently diverged species complexes. 相似文献15.

An electrophoretic survey was conducted for the Southeast and East Asian populations of Rana limnocharis. Results indicated that specimens from a single locality in Java derived from two genodemes showing complete allelic displacement at eight out of 25 presumptive loci examined. Within each of these genodemes, genotype frequencies at all polymorphic loci were well concordant with the Hardy-Weinberg expectation. These results strongly suggest that those specimens actually represent two biological species. Comprehensive distance analyses suggested that one of the two species from Java is genetically most divergent among all samples examined, whereas the other is most similar to the Laos sample and then to a group consisting of samples from Hongkong, western China, and the southern Ryukyus. Large values of genetic distances obtained for each combination of allopatric samples imply the presence of additional cryptic species in this nominal species. 相似文献

Shortleaf pine (n = 93) and loblolly pine (n = 112) trees representing 22 seed sources or 16 physiographic populations were sampled from Southwide Southern Pine Seed
Source Study plantings located in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi. The sampled trees were grown from shortleaf pine and
loblolly pine seeds formed in 1951 and 1952, prior to the start of intensive forest management across their native ranges.
Amplification fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers were developed and used to study genetic diversity and its structure
in these pine species. After screening 48 primer pairs, 17 and 21 pairs were selected that produced 794 and 647 AFLPs in shortleaf
pine and loblolly pine, respectively. High-AFLP-based genetic diversity exists within shortleaf pine and loblolly pine, and
most (84.73% in shortleaf pine; 87.69% in loblolly pine) of this diversity is maintained within physiographic populations.
The high value of unbiased measures of genetic identity and low value of genetic distance for all pairwise comparisons indicates
that the populations have similar genetic structures. For shortleaf pine, there was no significant correlation between geographic
distance and genetic distance (r = 0.28), while for loblolly pine there was a weak but significant correlation (r = 0.51). 相似文献

Potential factors were analyzed that affected the formation of gene pools of two introduced beaver populations founded in the 1940s–1950s by releasing beavers from Voronezh oblast and Belarus into rivers of the Kirov and Novosibirsk oblasts. The populations from these two regions were shown to differ in four allozyme loci (Ahd-2, Gpi, Es-5, and Dia-2). Within Kirov oblast, the samples from three tributaries of the Vyatka River differed in three other loci (Ck-1, Gp-9, and Trf). It is suggested that these features of the allele distribution at these loci are explained by the history of the introduced populations, hybridization between beavers from Voronezh oblast and Belarus, and founder effect during the subsequent artificial and spontaneous migration. Generally, genetic differences between the populations in all studied loci were very small: D = 0.02 between populations from different regions and D = 0.01 between populations from the tributaries of third-order rivers of the Kirov oblast. At the same time, disequilibrium was detected for ten polymorphic loci in the combined sample from the populations of Kirov oblast, which indicates the existence of interpopulation heterogeneity at the level of local populations of fourth- and fifth-order rivers. The unexpected finding of a genetic similarity between one studied individual of Tuvinian beaver subspecies (Castor fiber tuvinicus) and C. f. orientoeuropeas was recorded. 相似文献

Male Polistes canadensis and P. carnifex aggregate along crests of prominent ridges in Santa Rosa National Park, Costa Rica. At these sites males of both species defend territories (trees and shrubs) by chasing conspecific rivals. Territories do not contain nests or resources that are collected by females. Chasing by territorial males reduces the amount of time spent by intruders in a territory. I describe and contrast male territorial behavior of both species. Some male P. canadensis are territorial while others in the same area exhibit patrolling behavior, flying from one occupied territory to another. Males of P. carnifex exhibit territoriality only. Patrolling in P. canadensis is an outcome of relatively high male density along the ridge, rendering territories in short supply, as shown by the observation that experimentally vacated territories are seized rapidly by formerly patrolling males. Due to a high intraspecific intrusion rate, territorial male P. canadensis spend less time perching and more time flying and chasing intruders from their territories than do male P. carnifex. Males of these two species also differ in the placement of their territories along the ridgeline; P. canadensis occupy territories in saddles while P. carnifex occupy those at peaktops. I show that this divergent spatial pattern is not maintained by competitive exclusion of either species by the other, and I discuss alternative explanations for their separate spatial distributions. Comparative data suggest that males are territorial because females restrict matings to within territories, and I discuss alternative hypotheses to explain this bias in female behavior. 相似文献

The Corsican red deer (Cervus elaphus corsicanus) is endemic to the Tyrrhenian islands of Corsica and Sardinia. It has been regarded as an introduced species and has allegedly been present on the islands since the beginning of the Neolithic culture some 8,000 years ago. In this review, we present the results of relevant genetic analyses and discuss their implications for the origin of C. e. corsicanus. Different genetic studies hypothesize that the most probable ancestral populations for Sardianian red deer were alternatively, the Near East, North Africa, or mainland Italy. These respective scenarios are evaluated and it is concluded that geneticists have not yet been unable to definitively solve the problem. However, a natural colonization of the Tyrrhenian islands from mainland Italy via the Tuscan archipelago is not only in accordance with palaeontological findings but also with at least some of the genetic data. 相似文献
