After inoculation of mycoplasmas via ductus deferens in male dogs with a vas deferens fistula the influence on gonads and general state of health was investigated using clinical, andrological, spermatological, microbiological and histological methods.On day 23 and 29 respectively after inoculation two animals showed local reactions within the fistulated gonads which were identified as orchitis and epididymitis. Clinical abnormalities correlated well with the decrease of sperm motility and significant increase (p < 0,05) of aberrant spermatozoa.The microbiological and histological findings are discussed in the light of the incidence of clinical symptoms and the influence of a mycoplasmal infection.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to analyze the clinical prevalence and pathohistological correlation of dysplastic nevi. In the period between 2000 and 2009, in the Outpatient Clinic of Referral Centre for Melanoma of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Croatia, 12,344 patients were examined, and 35.07% of them were surgically removed in the same institution. Among the patients, 69.16% had clinically diagnosed melanocytic tumor. Out of them, 28.39% were dysplastic. Dysplastic nevus was pathohistologically diagnosed in 20.02% of pathohistologically diagnosed melanocytic tumors. There was women predominace among patients with clinically diagnosed dysplastic nevi (65.22%). The most frequent localization was the trunk in both sexes, women 78.18%, men 76.75%. The coincidence of clinical and pathohistological diagnosis of dysplastic nevus was 30.70%. The results of this study, based on a large number of patients could be a significant contribution in understanding characteristics of dysplastic nevus, its clinical and pathohistological complexity. We hope that the data will contribute to the creation of general accepted protocols in the diagnostics of dysplastic nevus.  相似文献

Congenital myasthenic syndrome (CMS) encompasses a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders affecting nerve transmission across the neuromuscular junction. The aim of this study was to characterize the clinical, physiological, pathohistological and genetic features of nine unrelated Chinese patients with CMS from a single neuromuscular centre. A total of nine patients aged from neonates to 34 years were enrolled who exhibited initial symptoms. Physical examinations revealed that all patients exhibited muscle weakness. Muscle biopsies demonstrated multiple myopathological changes, including increased fibre size variation, myofibrillar network disarray, necrosis, myofiber grouping, regeneration, fibre atrophy and angular fibres. Genetic testing revealed six different mutated genes, including AGRN (2/9), CHRNE (1/9), GFPT1 (1/9), GMPPB (1/9), PLEC (3/9) and SCN4A (1/9). In addition, patients exhibited differential responses to pharmacological treatment. Prompt utilization of genetic testing will identify novel variants and expand our understanding of the phenotype of this rare syndrome. Our findings contribute to the clinical, pathohistological and genetic spectrum of congenital myasthenic syndrome in China.  相似文献

Primary osteogenic sarcoma of the breast is a rare neoplasm, diagnosed mainly by pathohistological and immunohistochemical analysis.We hereby present a case of primary osteogenic sarcoma in the right breast of a 62-year-old woman with synchronous appearance of an invasive ductal carcinoma. Clinical findings are manifested with two separate painless formations 2.5 cm/2 cm and 1.5 cm/1 cm in size, located on the border of the upper and lower lateral quadrant of the right breast. No axillary lymphadenopathy was diagnosed. The pathohistological and immunohistochemistry findings of both tumors revealed a synchronous manifestation of two distinct neoplasms – epithelial and non-epithelial. Multimodality treatment consisted of Patey''s radical mastectomy; 3 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy; postoperative 50 Gy radiotherapy to the chest wall followed by additional 3 cycles of chemotherapy and anti-estrogen hormonotherapy.Due to the rarity of osteogenic mammary sarcoma, even more so in a combination with epithelial breast tumors, its clinical features are unclear and optimal treatment remains controversial. Considering the poor prognosis of the combination of both malignomas, we discuss a number of diagnostic and therapeutic issues.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to examine a perfusion and integrity of small bowel in 60 subsequent patients during the major open abdominal surgery which lasted from 2 to 7 hours. Two samples of the intestinal mucosa were removed: at the beginning, and at the end of the surgical procedure in general anaesthesia. A mucosal injury was classified into 4 grades. pH, PCO2 and lactate level were measured in the blood samples from the arterial and mesenteric vein in one hour time intervals. The changes of intestinal mucosa were found in 31 patients (51.7%): in 19 patients (31.7%) grade 1 changes were recorded, in 10 patients (16.7%) grade 2, and in 2 patients (3.3%) grade 3. Grade 4 lesions were not recorded. There was a statistically significant correlation between grades of the mucosal damage and the surgery duration (p = 0.001). Analysis during the one hour intervals showed that there was no exact time point when the significant aggravation of the pathohistological changes in intestinal mucosa occurred. However, when patients were allocated into two subgroups with surgical procedures lasting less than 4 hours and more than 4 hours, there was a statistically significant difference in the grades of mucosal damage between subgroups (p < 0.05). More biopsies without pathohistological changes were observed in the patients whose procedure duration was < 4 hours. A significantly higher lactate concentrations in arterial and mesenteric venous blood were observed in the patients with pathohistological changes at 6 hours time point as compared to 2 hour time point in the patients without pathohistological changes (p < 0.05). During the open abdominal surgery in general anaesthesia, the length of the procedure influences the grade of the intestinal mucosa injury. Deterioration of the pathohistological findings in the intestinal mucosa correlates with high lactate blood level, suggesting that the cause of these changes may result from tissue hypoxia.  相似文献

Number of researches dealing with the influence of the ABO blood group antigens on the development of the oral cancer have hypothesized that people who do not secrete these substances in the saliva are more prone to suffer from this disease. The objective of this research is to examine this hypothesis. In total 114 subjects were examined, half of which suffered from oral cancer, while the other half was the healthy control group. All examinees were subjected to clinical examinations and the experimental group to pathohistological examination. An analysis of the secretor status was carried out using the Wiener agglutination test. The experimental group consisted of 78.95% of secretors, while the control group consisted of 82.46% of secretors. This difference is not statistically significant. The starting hypothesis that non-secretors are more prone to the development of oral cancer was not confirmed.  相似文献

Cytokines are the main mediators of inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Thus, Th2 cytokines--such as IL-4 and IL-10--have protective properties to this disease. In opposite, the Th1 cytokines--such as IL-2 and IFN-gamma--are supporting proinflammatory microenvironment in joints from patients with RA. The imbalance of Th1/Th2 cytokine steady state may play an important role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis. The evaluation of this imbalance leads up to the possibility of pathohistological discrimination in this disease. In this context, we investigated Th1- (IFN-gamma, IL-2) and Th2 (IL-10, IL-4)-cell-derived cytokine mRNA expression in two novel pathohistological main-types of RA synovial membrane (SM). These main-types are characterized by different tissue-infiltrating inflammatory cells and different extent of SM destruction. Our findings showed that expression of IL-10 mRNA was an outcome of histological main-type I (p<0.001), whereas expression of IFN-gamma and IL-2 were mainly associated with pathohistological main-type II (p<0.005, p<0.05). Surprisingly, IL4 was not differential expressed and could be associated with another special T cell subset in this disease. These results suggest that Th1/Th2 balance is biased to Th2 cytokines within main-type I and Th1 cytokines in main-type II.  相似文献

Azole antifungals are used to treat a myriad of fungal infections in diverse patient populations. As a result, it becomes clear that use of one size fits all azole dosing regimens is illogical. Three general variable categories are essential to consider when developing an approach the management of fungal infections with the azoles. These categories are the pharmacological, microbiological, and host. In the clinical setting information regarding microbiological variables if often lacking; however, host and pharmacological data are abundant. Unfortunately, these available data are not always used to construct individualized dosing strategies. In this review, host and pharmacological factors that can influence azole activity will be presented. Additionally, recommendations will be provided to help the clinician optimize azole dosing regimens based on these variables.  相似文献

Trifluoperazine, a calmodulin antagonist, inhibited the A23187-induced increase in outputs of prostaglandin (PG) F-2 alpha and 6-oxo-PGF-1 alpha from the Day 7 and Day 15 guinea-pig uterus superfused in vitro. The basal outputs of, and the arachidonic acid-induced increase in outputs of PGF-2 alpha, PGE-2 and 6-oxo-PGF-1 alpha from the guinea-pig uterus were not inhibited by trifluoperazine. In contrast, indomethacin inhibited A23187-stimulated, arachidonic acid-stimulated and the basal outputs of PGs from the guinea-pig uterus, indicating that trifluoperazine was not inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase. Since the action of A23187 is dependent upon extracellular Ca2+, the present findings provide evidence that calmodulin is involved in Ca2+-induced increases in uterine PG output from the guinea-pig uterus. Trifluoperazine, but not indomethacin, inhibited A23187-induced contraction of the guinea-pig uterus, which is consistent with calmodulin being involved in smooth muscle contraction. Arachidonic acid treatment did not contract the guinea-pig uterus. These findings indicate that PGs are not involved in the contraction induced by A23187. Other findings of interest were (i) trifluoperazine caused a small, sometimes significant (P less than 0.05), increase in uterine PG output, (ii) exogenous arachidonic acid failed to increase PGF-2 alpha output from the Day 15 uterus in contrast to the stimulant action of A23187, and (iii) exogenous arachidonic acid caused a fairly large increase in uterine PGE-2 output in contrast to the small effect with A23187.  相似文献

The effect of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) on the non-pregnant human uterus was a evaluated in 35 patients. The compound was administered both by intra-uterine and intra-venous routes. Two groups of volunteers were studeid; fifteen cases who were under oral contraceptive and twenty women with normal ovulatory cycles. The uterus under the influence of oral contraceptives showed a reduced response to local and systemic administration fo PGF2α at all phases of the menstrual cycle. The implications of these findings in certain physiological and pathological conditions related to reproduction are discussed.  相似文献

Recent point source microbiological studies, using radial grid sampling stations, have indicated the potential of using bacterial populations to delineate mixing zones and identify the plumes. The discharge from the Niagara River into Lake Ontario was studied and microbiological data from the main plume area (impact zone), zone of minor influence of the plume, and the non-plume lake waters are presented. The microbiological observations were found to agree with thermal observations of the plume area made by remote sensing scanning techniques.  相似文献

Tamoxifen has more or less strong estrogen influence according to the targets : a light one on the uterus (1 mg being much less strong than 0.25 microgram of estradiol), a dynamic one on the vagina (50 microgram of tamoxifen make the vagina open in as short a time as 0.25 microgram of estradiol do but the keratinisation is still not completed even with 1 mg of tamoxifen). We can still see this influence four days after the end of the treatment. This influence is weak on the uterus until the 11 th day and it is much stronger on the vagina until about the 8 th day. Tamoxifen has an antiestrogenic action when opposed to 20 microgram of estradiol : this action is limited as soon as you give a dosis of 50 microgram on the uterus and it is nearly total with a dose of 1 mg ; we can notice it on the vaginal only from 200 microgram on.  相似文献

Thyroid hormones are known to influence various processes of cell differentiation. Recently, it was reported that hypothyroidism reduces the sensitivity to Ca2+-channel antagonists in the rat uterus. We examined the sensitivity to dihydropyridines of the uterus from mice that had reduced thyroid hormone levels. Isradipine relaxed with the same potency precontracted uterine muscle strips from control and hypothyroid mice, independently from a pseudo-pregnant state. These results demonstrate that hypothyroidism does not change dihydropyridine sensitivity (i.e., the pattern of Ca2+-channel expression) in the murine uterus.  相似文献

The physiological role of lactoferrin (LF), the major estrogen-inducible protein in the murine uterus, is unclear; however, LF may be a useful marker for the study of estrogen action in the uterus. Thus, the expression of LF mRNA and the localization of the protein in genital tract tissues and secretions of female mice (6-8 wk old) at different stages of the estrous cycle were investigated. Uterine luminal fluid (ULF) was analyzed for LF by means of gel electrophoresis and Western blot techniques; LF mRNA and protein were identified in reproductive tract tissues through in situ hybridization and immunocytochemistry. At diestrus, the level of LF mRNA was low, and staining for the protein was very light in uterine epithelial cells; LF was undetectable in ULF. At proestrus, LF mRNA and protein increased in the uterine epithelium and LF was readily detectable in ULF. LF mRNA and protein reached the highest levels at estrus. At early metestrus as compared to estrus, LF mRNA and protein were detected in decreasing amounts in uterine epithelial cells; the protein was undetected in ULF. By late metestrus and diestrus, LF mRNA and protein returned to a low level, and the protein was undetectable in ULF. LF protein was also demonstrated by immunocytochemistry in the epithelium of the oviduct, cervix, and vagina. LF protein fluctuation similar to that observed in the uterus was seen in these tissues; however, the uterus demonstrated the most dramatic changes in the number of epithelial cells involved in LF production during the estrous cycle. In summary, LF mRNA and its expression in uterine epithelial cells of the mouse varied with the stage of the estrous cycle. These results, combined with previously reported findings that LF is a major constituent of mouse ULF under the influence of estrogen, suggest that LF may play an important role in normal reproductive processes.  相似文献

Background

Mast cells (MCs) have long been suspected as important players for implantation based on the fact that their degranulation causes the release of pivotal factors, e.g., histamine, MMPs, tryptase and VEGF, which are known to be involved in the attachment and posterior invasion of the embryo into the uterus. Moreover, MC degranulation correlates with angiogenesis during pregnancy. The number of MCs in the uterus has been shown to fluctuate during menstrual cycle in human and estrus cycle in rat and mouse indicating a hormonal influence on their recruitment from the periphery to the uterus. However, the mechanisms behind MC migration to the uterus are still unknown.

Methodology/Principal Findings

We first utilized migration assays to show that MCs are able to migrate to the uterus and to the fetal-maternal interface upon up-regulation of the expression of chemokine receptors by hormonal changes. By using a model of ovariectomized animals, we provide clear evidences that also in vivo, estradiol and progesterone attract MC to the uterus and further provoke their maturation and degranulation.

Conclusion/Significance

We propose that estradiol and progesterone modulate the migration of MCs from the periphery to the uterus and their degranulation, which may prepare the uterus for implantation.  相似文献

Hydrocortisone (10 micrograms/ml) had no effect on the basal outputs and A23187-stimulated outputs of PGF2 alpha, PGE2 and 6-keto-PGF1 alpha from the Day 15 guinea-pig uterus superfused in vitro. These findings indicate that the high output of PGF2 alpha from the guinea-pig uterus during the last one-third of the oestrous cycle is not modulated by the adrenal glucocorticoid hormones. Progesterone (10 micrograms/ml) had no effect on the A23187-induced increases in PG output from the Day 15 guinea-pig uterus. However, oestradiol (10 micrograms/ml but not 1 microgram/ml) significantly reduced the increases in outputs of PGF2 alpha, PGE2 and 6-keto-PGF1 alpha induced by A23187 from the Day 15 guinea-pig uterus, without affecting basal PG outputs. The increase in uterine tone induced by A23187 in the Day 15 guinea-pig uterus was reduced by 20-50% by oestradiol (10 micrograms/ml). The addition of oestradiol (10 micrograms/ml) and progesterone together (10 micrograms/ml) produced the same effects on the Day 15 guinea-pig uterus as oestradiol alone. Oestradiol (10 micrograms/ml) also reduced the A23187-induced increases in PG output from the Day 7 guinea-pig uterus, but did not reduce the increase in uterine tone. Oestradiol (10 micrograms/ml) reduced the increases in outputs of PGF2 alpha, PGE2 and 6-keto-PGF1 alpha induced by exogenous arachidonic acid from the Day 7 and Day 15 guinea-pig uterus. Previous studies have shown that oestradiol is not a cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor. The present findings suggest that oestradiol, at a relatively high concentration, may interfere with the access of arachidonic acid to the cyclo-oxygenase enzyme. This action of oestradiol may explain its anti-luteolytic action when administered to guinea-pigs in large doses after Day 9 of the cycle.  相似文献

The influence of deciduoma-induced differentiation on the lipid peroxidation in the rat uterus was investigated. The wet weight of uterus and its protein content increased during deciduoma progression. Content of the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) as well as lipid peroxidation induced by ascorbate and cumene hydroperoxide showed significant decreases during deciduoma growth. Restoration of normalcy was observed during regression. The activity of superoxide dismutase, an inhibitor of lipid peroxidation showed an opposite pattern namely increase during deciduoma development and decline during the regressive phase. We conclude that cell differentiation during deciduoma induction is accompanied by a temporary and reversible decrease in the peroxidative potential of the rat uterus.  相似文献

Ameloblastoma, especially maxillary, is a rare benign neoplasm of odontogenic origin. Diagnosis of significant number of lesions is usually established postoperatively, because ameloblastoma, especially the unicystic form, mimics wide range of more frequent jaw lesions. From January 1993 to December 2005, three cases of the maxillary ameloblastoma were surgically treated at our Department. The authors present clinical, radiological and pathohistological features of the ameloblastomas in this rare localization with special attention to need of accurate preoperative diagnostics.  相似文献

In this study we sought to determine the contribution of microbial translocation to febrile episodes with no attributable microbiological cause (Fever of Unknown Origin, FUO) in an adult febrile neutropaenic cohort. Endotoxin concentrations were measured with the chromogenic Limulus Amoebocyte Assay and used as a direct measure of bacterial products whilst soluble CD14 (sCD14), measured with ELISA was selected as an indicator of the early host response to endotoxins. Endotoxin concentrations in this cohort were generally elevated but did not differ with the presentation of fever. Further stratification of the febrile episodes based on the microbiological findings revealed significantly (p = 0.0077) elevated endotoxin concentrations in FUO episodes compared with episodes with documented bacterial and viral findings. sCD14 concentrations were however, elevated in febrile episodes (p = 0.0066) and no association was observed between sCD14 concentration and microbiological findings. However, FUO episodes and episodes with Gram-negative bacteraemia were associated with higher median sCD14 concentrations than episodes with Gram-positive bacteraemia (p = 0.030). In conclusion, our findings suggest that in the absence of microbiological findings, microbial translocation could contribute to febrile episodes in an adult neutropaenic cohort. We further observed an association between prophylactic antibiotic use and increased plasma endotoxin concentrations (p = 0.0212).  相似文献
