The morphology and ontogenesis of two new hypotrich ciliates, Hemiholosticha solitaria and Hemiholosticha germanica, were studied using live observation, protargol impregnation, and scanning electron microscopy. Both species share a medium-sized, almost globular body with a short anterior projection; two macronuclear nodules with a single micronucleus in between; a central contractile vacuole; three or four ventral, one postoral, one right and one left marginal cirral row; and three dorsal kineties extending along ribs. However, H. germanica is distinguished from congeners by a higher number of cirri in ventral rows R1 and R2 (3–6 vs. 2 cirri in each row). Hemiholosticha solitaria differs from congeners by having four (vs. three) ventral cirral rows and by the lack (vs. presence) of intracellular green algae. The ontogenesis of H. solitaria follows the H. pantanalensis mode in that (i) the oral primordium develops in a deep pouch and generates the first two cirral streaks in addition to adoral membranelles and undulating membranes, (ii) the undulating membrane anlage does not produce any cirri, and (iii) the longitudinal ventral cirral row R3 originates from two anlagen. The ontogenetic peculiarities along with the 18S rRNA gene phylogenies suggest classification of Hemiholosticha, Psilotrichides, and Urospinula into a new family, Hemiholostichidae. 相似文献

During a research project aimed at the study of the Culicinae fauna of Gabon and
carried out in the National Park of La Lopé, we captured an unknown sandfly male
specimen (genus Phlebotomus) by CDC miniature light trap
belonging to a new species for Science. Furthermore, the originality of his
genitalia does not allow us to include this species in one of the existing
subgenus, thus in this paper we propose the creation of a new subgenus, as
Phlebotomus (Legeromyia) multihamatus sp. nov., subg. nov.
described from the National Park of La Lopé, through one male captured with CDC
miniature light trap. A new species and a new subgenus of sandfly is
characterised by a short style with three spines, a paramere wearing a basal
hook as well as a basal pouch and the absence of basal lobe on the coxite. The
originality of the genitalia of the male gives way to discussion about potential
primary homologies between P. multihamatus sp. nov. and
Phlebotomus (Abonnencius) fortunatarum, Phlebotomus
(Anaphlebotomus) stantoni and Phlebotomus (Euphlebotomus)
argentipes, which should be verified for future studies. The
discovery of this new species in Gabon must encourage the study of sandflies in
this country. 相似文献

Methanotrophic Verrucomicrobia have been found in geothermal environments characterized by high temperatures and low pH values. However, it has recently been hypothesized that methanotrophic Verrucomicrobia could be present under a broader range of environmental conditions. Here we describe the isolation and characterization of three new species of mesophilic acidophilic verrucomicrobial methanotrophs from a volcanic soil in Italy. The three new species showed 97% to 98% 16S rRNA gene identity to each other but were related only distantly (89% to 90% on the 16S rRNA level) to the thermophilic genus Methylacidiphilum. We propose the new genus Methylacidimicrobium, including the novel species Methylacidimicrobium
fagopyrum, Methylacidimicrobium
tartarophylax, and Methylacidimicrobium
cyclopophantes. These mesophilic Methylacidimicrobium spp. were more acid tolerant than their thermophilic relatives; the most tolerant species, M. tartarophylax, still grew at pH 0.5. The variation in growth temperature optima (35 to 44°C) and maximum growth rates (µmax; 0.013 to 0.040 h−1) suggested that all species were adapted to a specific niche within the geothermal environment. All three species grew autotrophically using the Calvin cycle. The cells of all species contained glycogen particles and electron-dense particles in their cytoplasm as visualized by electron microscopy. In addition, the cells of one of the species (M. fagopyrum) contained intracytoplasmic membrane stacks. The discovery of these three new species and their growth characteristics expands the known diversity of verrucomicrobial methanotrophs and shows that they are present in many more ecosystems than previously assumed. 相似文献

A total of 2,868 individuals of 47 species of chaetodontids were examined for faustulids at seven major localities in the Tropical Indo-West Pacific (TIWP). Combined morphological and molecular analyses allowed us to describe Paradiscogaster oxleyi n. sp. from three localities in the TIWP and in three host species, Chaetodon lunulatus Quoy & Gaimard (type-host), C. ornatissimus Cuvier and C. meyeri Bloch & Schneider. Molecular analysis of the ITS2 region of rDNA from two host species and three localities supports the morphology-based conclusion that P. oxleyi n. sp. is the same species at the three localities. Paradiscogaster flindersi Bray, Cribb & Barker, 1994 is reported from three new localities in the TIWP and is now known from 13 chaetodontid species. Sequences from samples consistent with P. flindersi differed from those from P. oxleyi n. sp. in 11–12 base pairs. The host ranges of the two species overlap broadly. Neither species was found in French Polynesia but both were found at Swain Reefs on the Great Barrier Reef. Only one of the two species was found at each of the five other sites. Both species occur almost exclusively in specialist corallivores allowing the inference that the metacercariae occur in corals. Finally, a key to the species of Paradiscogaster is provided. 相似文献

Species composition and distribution of intestinal ciliates excreted in the feces of three Asian elephants living in Sasalı National Park, Izmir, Turkey, were investigated. Seven ciliate genera consisting of 36 species were identified. This is the first report on intestinal ciliates in elephants living in Turkey; one new species, T. izmirae n. sp., was described. This new species has a special macronucleus shape, skeletal rod plates with two wings and posterior contractile vacuole lying beneath the dorsal left base of the tail flap. The buccal infraciliary bands of T. izmirae are similar to those of T. selenica and T. suwako known from elephants. Triplumaria ovina and Raabena bella occurred in highest percentages in two elephants, whereas Latteuria polyfaria was highest in the third one. Ciliate densities in the three fecal samples were 3.5, 1.5 and 5.0 × 104/mL. 相似文献

Diplogasteroides asiaticus n. sp. is described and illustrated, and its molecular profile and phylogenetic status within the family Diplogastridae are inferred. Morphologically, the new species is characterized by its stomatal structure, a tube-like stoma with three small, rod-like dorsal teeth and two subventral ridges; a spicule clearly ventrally bent at 1/3 from the anterior end; a gubernaculum with a rounded anterior end and sharply pointed distal end in lateral view; nine pairs of genital papillae with an arrangement of <v1, (v2, v3d), C, v4, ad, ph, (v5, v6, v7), pd>; a short tail spike in males; and a well-developed receptaculum seminis, i.e., the antiparallel blind sacs of the uteri beyond the vulva region and elongated conical tail in females. This new species is morphologically similar to D. haslacheri, but it can be distinguished by the morphology of the somewhat shorter tail in females. D. asiaticus n. sp. shares high sequence conservation with D. andrassyi as there is only one base pair difference in the nearly full-length 18S rDNA and seven base pair differences in the D2-D3 expansion segments of the 28S rDNA. Despite this sequence conservation, the species status of D. asiaticus n. sp. was confirmed using the biological species concept, as D. asiaticus n. sp. and D. andrassyi failed to generate viable F2 progeny in hybridization tests. 相似文献

A marine hypotrich ciliate, Heterotachysoma multinucleatum (Gong and Choi, 2007) n. comb., found in coastal waters near Qingdao, China, was investigated. Heterotachysoma multinucleatum is characterized by its dorsal ciliature arranged in Gonostomum-pattern. Additionally, a new genus, Heterotachysoma n. gen., is established which is mainly characterized by: 18-cirri pattern; flexible body; three dorsal kineties with no dorsomarginal kineties nor kinety fragmentation; one right and one left row of marginal cirri; caudal cirri absent. The genus Tachysoma is redefined, and three new combinations, T. multinucleatum, T. ovatum and T. dragescoi, are proposed. The morphogenesis of Hemigastrostyla enigmatica (Dragesco and Dragesco-Kernéis, 1986) Song and Wilbert, 1997, is also described. Compared with that of its congeners, the differences are mainly in the dorsal ciliature: (1) the dorsal kinety anlagen are formed de novo in H. enigmatica (vs. intrakinetally in H. paraenigmatica and H. elongata); (2) the dorsal kineties anlagen develop in secondary mode in H. enigmatica (vs. primary mode in H. paraenigmatica); (3) the kinetal fragment anterior to the right marginal row in both filial product is absent in both H. enigmatica and H. elongata (vs. present in H. paraenigmatica). These findings suggest that morphogenesis is not uniform among members of the genus Hemigastrostyla. 相似文献

A new species of Pseudascarophis (Nematoda:
Cystidicolidae) found in the stomach of Kyphosus sectatrix
(Linnaeus) (Kyphosidae), off Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is described. The new
species can be differentiated from the other congeners by the presence of
lateral alae, distinct but inconspicuous cephalic papillae at the anterior end,
three pairs of precloacal and one pair of adcloacal papillae in males, egg
morphology and morphometry of glandular oesophagus and spicules.
Pseudascarophis tropica is transferred to
Ascarophis as Ascarophis tropica
(Solov''eva) comb. n. due to its ambiguous diagnosis. 相似文献

Chelimazocraes liaoi n. g., n. sp. and Chelimazocraes ascidiformis n. sp. (Monogenea: Mazocraeidae) are described from the gills of Clupanodon punctatus (Temminck & Schlegel) in Daya Bay (South China Sea). The new genus is characterised by the following features: (i) the haptor is distinctly separated from the body proper, and the arrangement of the clamps is bilaterally symmetrical but longitudinally heteromorphic; (ii) the anterior three pairs of clamps are of the mazocraeid-type, whereas the fourth pair is of a non-mazocraeid type with three sclerites; (iii) all three pairs of clamps are similar in shape but their size gradually becomes smaller from the anterior to the posterior; (iv) the inner spines of the copulatory organ have a similar shape; and (v) the testes are numerous and arranged longitudinally posterior to the ovary. The two new species are easily distinguished from other members of the Mazocraeidae by the unique structure of the fourth pair of clamps; however, there are some noticeable differences between the two species. The major differences are as follows: (i) the body of C. liaoi n. sp. is significantly larger than that of C. ascidiformis n. sp.; (ii) the anterior three pairs of clamps consist of different sclerites in the two species; and (iii) the copulatory organ has one pair of outer spines and 15–16 pieces of inner spines in C. liaoi n. sp. (vs two pairs of outer spines and 22–26 pieces of inner spines in C. ascidiformis n. sp.). 相似文献

Our aim is to model the Salmo trutta population dynamics (three age-classes) in an arborescent river network (four levels, 15 patches), by considering both migrations (fast time scale) and demography (slow time scale). We study how the environmental management can influence the global population dynamics. We present a general model coupling both a linear discrete model for constant migrations and a non-linear density-dependent Leslie model for the demography, with (15 × 3) difference equations (15 patches, three age-classes). The variable aggregation method applied to discrete time models allows us to aggregate the previous model into a new one with only three equations. We assume fecundity and survival gradients with respect to the river network levels. The Salmo trutta whole population tends towards an equilibrium state depending on the environmental structure, and we show that dams have a stronger influence than channelling on this equilibrium. 相似文献

P. aurelia is currently defined as a complex of 15 sibling species including 14 species designated by Sonneborn (1975) and one, P. sonneborni, by Aufderheide et al. (1983). The latter was known from only one stand (Texas, USA). The main reason for the present study was a new stand of Paramecium in Cyprus, with strains recognized as P. sonneborni based on the results of strain crosses, cytological slides, and molecular analyses of three loci (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2-5′LSU rDNA, COI, CytB). The new stand of P. sonneborni in Europe shows that the species, previously considered endemic, may have a wider range. This demonstrates the impact of under-sampling on the knowledge of the biogeography of microbial eukaryotes. Phylogenetic trees based on all the studied fragments revealed that P. sonneborni forms a separate cluster that is closer to P. jenningsi and P. schewiakoffi than to the other members of the P. aurelia complex. 相似文献

Navicula subtilissima was described by Cleve as a new species from ‘a dry rivulet at the shore of Imandra, at the foot of Chibinä, Lapland’. However, the examination of the type slides and the unmounted original material using transmission and scanning electron microscopy revealed that there are at least three finely striated similar taxa distinguishable at the specific level. From these taxa, application of the nameN. subtilissima Cleve is established by selecting a lectotype; a second one is described as a new species,N. parasubtilissima, and the third is identified asN. subtilissima var.micropunctata Germain. The last one warrants a specific status by its fine structural differences in having continuous striae consisting of a single elongate areola occluded by a hymen with perforations arranging hexagonally. The occurrence of these three species is shown in Japanese collections. 相似文献
