Mating systems of Angiosperms are important determinants of population genetic structure and evolutionary potential. Nicotiana longiflora and N. plumbaginifolia are self-compatible, sister species, with contrasting floral morphology and can be found in allopatry and sympatry in North Argentina. In two sympatric and 10 nearby allopatric populations we studied their natural interpopulational variability and sympatry effects on corolla length and anther–stigma distance. We also estimated seed set by selfing and via pollinators using pollination treatments. Both corolla length and anther–stigma distance varied significantly among N. longiflora, but not among N. plumbaginifolia populations. We did not detect an effect of sympatry in either species for any of the floral traits studied. Pollination treatments suggest that N. longiflora is mainly an outcrosser, although selfing occurs at some extent. Seed set attributed to pollinators was significantly higher in N. longiflora whereas most seeds in N. plumbaginifolia were sired through self-pollination. In N. plumbaginifolia, selfing seems to assure reproduction in sympatric populations, where floral visitors have a strong preference for N. longiflora. Corolla length was significantly negatively correlated with an increase in the percentage of self-seeds estimated by pollination treatments. Within N. longiflora, anther–stigma distance showed a positive correlation with selfing.  相似文献

Summary The evidence discussed in this paper demonstrates unuqual genetic contribution of N. debneyi-tabacum and N. longiflora to the development of tumors in hybrids between them. Tumor formation depends upon the presence of a specific longiflora chromosome fragment in an otherwise debneyi-tabacum background and consequently is transmitted as a dominant trait. Tumor expression remains relatively constant among those segregants which carry the complete complements of N. debneyi-tabacum or N. tabacum along with the longiflora chromosome, but tumors fail to develop on plants with a few debneyi chromosomes on a diploid longiflora background. These results suggest that gene(s) on a single longiflora chromosome fragment are sufficient, whereas from N. debneyi or N. tabacum a large number of genes distributed over many chromosomes are required for tumor formation. An hypothesis concerning genetic components controlling tumor initiation (I) and expression (ee) is proposed, supported by these observations, and by previous studies both genetic and physiological, on another tumorous hybrid between N. glauca and N. langsdorffii. (I) and (ee), representing unequal contributions from two evolutionarily diverse species, must both be present in the hybrid for tumors to develop. Evidence is presented to indicate that N. longiflora and N. langsdorffii, belonging to the section Alatae, represent species carrying (I) and that N. debneyi, N. tabacum and N. glauca, belonging to different sections of the genus Nicotiana, are (ee) carriers. It is predicted that genetic analyses will reveal that the genes for tumor initiation (I) will be carried invariably by species of the section Alatae, or the so-called plus group of Näf, and genes modifying expression (ee) by species from other sections but belonging to the so-called minus group. Specific characterization of (I) and (ee) in biochemical terms is under investigation.  相似文献

The extent and seasonal pattern of asexual reproduction and ability to germinate in the rare liverwort Lophozia ascendens and the common liverworts L. ventricosa and L. longiflora were studied in the Boubínský prales National Nature Reserve in Šumava Mts. (Bohemian Forest), South Bohemia, Czech Republic. Asexual reproduction was quantified as the number of gemmae produced per individual shoot. Numbers of gemmae per shoot among sampling months differed significantly; increase of gemma production was delayed in L. ascendens in comparison with gemma production of L. ventricosa and L. longiflora. We suggest that gemma production is influenced by environmental factors, mainly air humidity. Germinability of gemmae was low in early spring, highest in August and September and slightly depressed in October. This pattern suggests that rather mild winters in the Czech Republic cause the lower mortality of shoots during winter and the environmental pressure towards the production of dormant gemmae is not a prominent factor affecting the population dynamics of the species under study.  相似文献

As part of our continuing search for bioactive natural products from plants, the present study was carried out in order to evaluate the gastroprotective properties of alkaloid extract and 2-phenylquinoline obtained from the bark of Galipea longiflora (Rutaceae). Anti-ulcer assays were performed using the following protocols in mice: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)/bethanecol-induced ulcer, ethanol/HCl-induced ulcer, and stress-induced ulcer. The effects of the extract on gastric content volume, pH and total acidity were also evaluated, using the pylorus ligated model. Treatment using doses of 50, 125 and 250 mg/kg of G. longiflora alkaloid extract and positive controls (omeprazol or cimetidine) significantly diminished the lesion index, total lesion area, and percentage of lesion, in comparison with the negative control groups in all the models evaluated. Regarding the model of gastric secretion, a reduction in volume of gastric juice and total acidity was observed, as well as an increase in gastric pH. The main alkaloid of the plant, 2-phenylquinoline, was also evaluated in the ethanol-induced ulcer model. The results showed that at a dose of 50 mg/kg, it significantly inhibited ulcerative lesions. However, this effect was less than that of the alkaloid extract. All these results taken together show that G. longiflora displays gastroprotective activity, as evidenced by its significant inhibition of the formation of ulcers induced by different models. There are indications that mechanisms involved in anti-ulcer activity are related to a decrease in gastric secretion and an increase in gastric mucus content. Also, there is evidence of involvement of NO in the gastroprotector mechanisms. These effects may be attributed, at least in part, to the presence of some alkaloids, particularly 2-phenylquinoline.  相似文献

The quinolinium chloride salt of 8-hydroxyqinolinecarbaldehyde (2-Formyl-8-hydroxy-quinolinium chloride) was prepared as Galipea longiflora alkaloid analogue and its anticancer activity was evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. This chloride salt was found to show certain degree of selectivity between hepatoma cells and normal hepatocytes in vitro. Athymic nude mice Hep3B xenograft model further demonstrated that this 2-Formyl-8-hydroxy-quinolinium chloride could execute strong anti-tumour activity with the identification of extensive necrotic feature from the tumour xenograft and limited adverse toxicological effect.  相似文献

Observations of meiotic chromosomes are reported for all 21 species and 3 additional sub species ofGaura (Onagraceae), based upon a study of 647 individuals from 509 naturally occurring populations throughout the range of the genus. The basic chromosome number for the genus isx = 7, and 18 species are diploid withn = 7. Among these, the self-incompatible ones are often highly chromosomally heterozygous, with no homozygous individuals having been found in nature in the perenrennialsGaura lindheimeri andG. villosa, and two-thirds or more of the individuals apparently heterozygous in the following well-sampled species:G. calcicola, G. longiflora, andG. suffulta subsp.suffulta. In contrast, the autogamous species are entirely chromosomally homozygous or nearly so. Two species ofGaura are reported as chromosomal structural heterozygotes, with about 50% pollen abortion:G. biennis andG. triangulata; the translocation systems originated independently of one another. Two of the three polyploid species,G. sinuata andG. drummondii (G. odorata of many authors), are consistently tetraploid (n = 14) and, despite their cytological autotetraploidy, are thought to have originated following interspecific hybridization. They are the only rhizomatous species in the genus and may have had one ancestor in common. The remaining polyploid,G. coccinea, includes populations withn = 7, 14, 21, and 28, as well as evident interploid hybrids and, frequently, supernumerary chromosomes. The relationship among these populations is close and is maintained by frequent hybridization and exchange of genetic material. No other species seems to have participated in their origin, and the association of their chromosomes is consistently that characteristic of autopolyploidy in plants with tetraploid and higher chromosome numbers.  相似文献

A total of 301 adult hispine beetles of the genera Cephaloleia and Chelobasis were found in rolled leaves of plants of 17 species of Zingiberales (families Costaceae, Heliconiaceae, Maranthaceae, Musaceae, and Zingiberaceae) during a field study at La Gamba, Golfito region, Costa Rica. Of these beetles, Cephaloleia belti was recorded from 12 potential host plant species, C. distincta from 7, C. dilaticollis from 5, C., Chelobasis bicolor, C. championi, and C. histrionica from 3, Chelobasis perplexa and C. instabilis from 2, whereas C. trivittata from only one. Of the plant species, Heliconia latispatha had 7 beetle species in its leaf rolls, Calathea lutea had 5, H. imbricata and H. rostrata had 4, H. stricta and Musa paradisiaca had 3, H. wagneriana had 2, while on H. vaginalis, H. danielsiana, H. densiflora, H. longiflora, Calathea crotalifera, C. platystachya, Goeppertia lasiophylla, Alpinia purpurata, Costus pulverulentus and Costus barbatus, H. densiflora, H. vaginalis, and H. danielsana only hispines of one species were found.Cephaloleia belti occurred together with beetles of six other hispine species, whereas Cephaloleia trivittata never shared a leaf roll with another hispine species. The remaining beetle species aggregated with one to four other hispines. Adults of C. belti and C. championi were frequently seen, occasionally also with C. dilaticollis, C. histrionica, and Chelobasis perplexa, to co-occur with the carabid Calophaena ligata in the same leaf roll without any sign of interspecific aggression.A comparison of host choices and the phylogeny of the hispines and of their host plants revealed no signs that beetles used species level phylogenetic relationships within the Zingiberales to select food plants. Obviously, within this plant order, rolled-leaf hispines choose their plant hosts in a nearly opportunistic manner. Seemingly, they use differences among plants at higher taxonomic levels but within the Zingiberales, the availability of young – rolled – leaves might be the actual decisive factor.  相似文献

A new species of Kerianthera, K. longiflora Zappi & C. T. Oliveira (Rubiaceae), has been discovered in relicts of Atlantic Forest in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, Brazil. This genus was, until now, thought to be monotypic and to occur only in the Amazon. The morphology, phenology and habitat of the new species are discussed and the IUCN conservation status of this and K. preclara are provided.  相似文献

对青藏高原长花马先蒿9个居群的核型及细胞地理学进行研究,所有居群的染色体数目均为2n=16,染色体基数为x=8。现有的细胞学资料表明:分布于云南中甸的居群可能为较原始的类群,而分布于西藏日土和青海门源的居群较为进化。长花马先蒿的9个居群均为二倍体,并未出现多倍化现象,可能是由于在末次冰期青藏高原存在广泛的避难所,二倍体得到很好的保存,冰期对它们的影响不是很大; 也可能是对环境的选择压力造成的。  相似文献

A novel flavonoid, (?)-2R,3R-3,5,4′-trihydoxyflavan-[6,7:5″,6″]-2″-pyranone, named uncariechin (1), was isolated from the methanolic extract of the leaves of Uncaria longiflora var. pteropoda (Miq.) Ridsd. along with the known (?)-epiafzelechin (2) and (?)-epicatechin (3), methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, four pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids, isopteropodine, pteropodine, uncarine F and isopteropodic acid, previously found in the stems, and two coumarins, scopoletin and 3,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxycoumarin. Structures of the compounds were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR, FTIR, UV, MS, and experimental as well as calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data. Compounds 2 and 3 were evaluated for their neurotoxic and neuroprotective properties against differentiated SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell lines using the MTS assay. Compounds 2 and 3 did not show any neurotoxic effects but showed strong protective potential against hydrogen peroxide-induced neurotoxicity with maximum cell viability at a concentration of 1 μM.  相似文献

Although several studies have shown that ants can recognize chemical cues from their host plants in ant-plant systems, it is poorly demonstrated in ant gardens (AGs). In this interaction, ant species constantly interact with various epiphyte species. Therefore, it is possible to expect a convergence of chemical signals released by plants that could be acting to ensure that ants are able to recognize and defend epiphyte species frequently associated with AGs. In this study, it was hypothesized that ants recognize and differentiate among chemical stimuli released by AG epiphytes and non-AG epiphytes. We experimentally simulated leaf herbivore damage on three epiphyte species restricted to AGs and a locally abundant understory herb, Piper hispidum, in order to quantify the number of recruited Camponotus femoratus (Fabricius) defenders. When exposed to the AG epiphytes Peperomia macrostachya and Codonanthe uleana leaves, it was observed that the recruitment of C. femoratus workers was, on average, respectively 556% and 246% higher than control. However, the number of ants recruited by the AG epiphyte Markea longiflora or by the non-AG plant did not differ from paper pieces. This indicated that ants could discern between chemicals released by different plants, suggesting that ants can select better plants. These results can be explained by evolutionary process acting on both ants’ capability in discerning plants’ chemical compounds (innate attraction) or by ants’ learning based on the epiphyte frequency in AGs (individual experience). To disentangle an innate behavior, a product of classical coevolutionary process, from an ant’s learned behavior, is a complicated but important subject to understand in the evolution of ant-plant mutualisms.  相似文献

In order to find new non-molecular evidence to support the phylogenetic and taxonomic position, pollen grains of 20 populations of 16 species of Chinese Curcuma L. and Boesenbergia Kuntz (Zingiberaceae) were investigated under SEM and TEM. The pollen grains are spherical and ovoid, nonaperturate. The pollen wall is composed of a very thin exine and a thick intine. The exine is psilate or echinate. The intine consists of two layers, i.e., a thick, channeled layer (exintine) and an inner homogenous layer (endintine). The results reveal morphological congruence between the pollen grains of species of Curcuma, which according to DNA sequence data appears to be a polyphyletic genus. However the uniform pollen morphology in Curcuma provides no evidence to divide this genus into separate taxonomic entities. Our results on pollen morphology also do not provide any additional evidence to either unite or segregate Boesenbergia albomaculata and Curcumorpha longiflora in the same genus and demonstrate that more taxonomic data on the genus Boesenbergia and its relatives are needed before a final decision can be made.  相似文献

 Five discrete plastid genotypes (plastomes), designated I–V and typified by Oenothera Hookeri, biennis, Lamarckiana, parviflora and argillicola respectively, have been previously characterized within the European subsect. Euoenothera. The evolutionarily more-derived plastome types (I, II and V) are generally less tolerant of new hybridization events than the ancestral types (III and IV), and were first identified based on their incompatibility reactions with standard hybrid nuclei. Restriction maps for all five plastomes are available for the enzymes PvuII, SalI, KpnI and PstI (Gordon et al. 1982). The present study employs PvuII and KpnI restriction digests to compare 28 of the 45 species of subsect. Munzia with Euoenothera plastomes I–V. The results of plastome RFLP fingerprinting show uniform divergence of the South American taxa from their European congeners; all share the previously documented 45-kb inversion in the large single-copy region reported by Hachtel et al. (1991). However, at least six new plastome types have evolved within subsect. Munzia, giving rise to small-fragment size differences of 0.1–0.7 kb. In two of these cases (Oe. featherstonei and Oe. longiflora) unique fragments occurred. For Oe. featherstonei the unique KpnI fragment resulted from a novel 2.2 kb insertion, whereas in Oe. longiflora an additional PvuII restriction site has been created. Fonio millets (Digitaria exilis, D. iburua) are minor but important indigenous cereals in the semiarid areas of West-Africa. Recent interest in breeding strategies for these crops requires a better understanding of their biology and genetics. Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) markers were employed to assess the phylogenetic relationships among cultivated fonio species and some polyploid wild relatives and examine proposed hypotheses on fonio ancestry. The AFLP analysis was found quite suitable for identifying each species. A very strong genetic affinity (over 92% similarity) was detected between the wild D. longiflora and D. ternata and the cultivated D. exilis and D. iburua, respectively. These data provided additional molecular evidence supporting the previous view of direct domestication of fonio millets from these two wild species. High genetic divergences were expectedly found between fonio species and the other taxonomically distant Digitaria taxa investigated. The results also revealed D. ciliaris and D. sanguinalis as separate species sharing close ancestry. Selfing experiments and subsequent progeny analyses using three isozymes supplemented by AFLPs were further conducted to determine the reproductive system in fonio millets. The results revealed apomixis as absolute mode of reproduction of these crops, except D. exilis in which 2% residual sexuality was detected. Additional data documented on seed set and pollen viability suggested that apomixis in fonio would be of pseudogamous type. The data also revealed fonio crops as highly self-compatible and of allopolyploid origin. This study adds new information about the reproductive system and the evolution of fonio, contributing to the knowledge on their biology, and thus providing useful subsides for future genetic improvement of these valuable crops.  相似文献

We have constructed a genetic linkage map for Nicotiana plumbaginifolia/Nicotiana longiflora (2n= 2x=20), based on the segregation of 69 RFLP and 102 RAPD loci in 99 F2 plants from the cross N. plumbaginifolia×N. longiflora. The map consists of nine major linkage groups, each containing more than nine marker loci, and spans 1062 cM. Twenty of the RFLP markers were mapped previously to Nicotiana sylvestris (2n=2x=24) chromosomes using monosomic alien addition lines. Taxonomically, N. plumbaginifolia and N. sylvestris belong to the same section, namely the Alatae; however, cytogenetic evidence indicates that they are not closely related. Comparison of the distribution of markers common to both maps suggests that genome reorganization has occurred during the evolution of these two species. Evidence is also presented that genome reorganization may be accompanied by gain and loss of specific classes of DNA sequences in their genomes.  相似文献

Two new species of Pleonotoma Miers (Bignonieae, Bignoniaceae) from Brazilian Amazonia are described and illustrated: Pleonotoma fissicalyx B. M. Gomes & Proen?a and P. longiflora B. M. Gomes & Proen?a. P. fissicalyx is characterised by foliaceous prophylls of the axillary bud, 3-ternate leaves, a large number of short racemes concentrated at the apex of the flowering branch with many visible pedicel scars, a laterally fissured, almost spathaceous calyx, and a small, narrow hypocrateriform corolla with subexserted anthers; the fruits are unknown. P. longiflora is characterised by the combination of weakly tetragonal branchlets with unribbed angles, non-foliaceous, flat, rounded prophylls of axillary bud with an eccentric tip, 2-ternate leaves, broad axillary racemes, an elongate tubular calyx and a hypocrateriform corolla up to 12 cm long; its inclusion within Pleonotoma is confirmed by molecular phylogeny.  相似文献

The nectar-sugar compositions of 338 individuals from 27 populations in two subspecies of Ipomopsis longiflora from Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Chihuahua were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. Mean sucrose compositions of populations ranged from 73.2% to 91.9%, and the standard deviations ranged from 1.9% to 9.1%. Pairs and aggregates of populations were statistically compared. The nectar-sugar compositions of the two subspecies were significantly different as aggregates. Subspecies australis averaged 9.5% fructose, 7.9% glucose, and 82.6% sucrose while subspecies longiflora averaged 7.8% fructose, 5.7% glucose, and 86.5% sucrose. Each subspecies was found to have two groups of populations. Groups of higher sucrose populations were found along the contact zone of the subspecies; away from the contact zone both subspecies had groups of lower sucrose populations. The data show that significant variability exists in this biochemical character, and the pattern of variation is clearly related to the geographic distribution of the populations. The genetic and selective mechanisms involved are unknown.  相似文献
