Simultaneous whale sighting and hydroacoustic surveys were conducted from a research vessel in the Antarctic to examine the relationship between the distribution of euphausiids and baleen whales. High densities of minke whales and large aggregations of euphausiids were observed along the ice edge over the continental slope in the southeast region of area IV and in the southwest region of area V. The results suggest that the continental slope zone that coincides with the ice edge would be an important minke whale feeding area. Minke whales were rarely sighted in the offshore region even if euphausiids were abundant. Distributions of humpback whales were correlated with high euphausiid density zones, regardless of the bottom topographic features. Several groups of blue whales were sighted in the small area along the ice edge where euphausiids were abundant, but sightings were too few to draw any general conclusion about the relationship between blue whales and euphausiids. Both baleen whales and euphausiids were scarce in the area east of 170°W where sea ice covered the continental shelf and slope zone.  相似文献

Marine phytoplankton was studied in January and July 2002 along of four transects: 32°30′N, 29°N, 24°30′N and 24°N. A total of 142 taxa were recorded in this area. The maximal specific richness, both in summer and in winter, was registered around Dakhla (24°N). The global spatiotemporal variability of species richness and specific diversity showed that the most structured and species-rich populations are situated in the coastal areas. The vertical variation of the two parameters showed homogeneity between depth levels. The maximal phytoplanktonic densities are recorded in the southern transects due to the permanent upwelling activity in the southern Atlantic coast. The bathymetric distribution of densities was more heterogeneous during summer, characterized by a high intensity of upwelling. The species Thalassionema nitzschioides, Asterionellopsis glacialis, Melosira, Chaetoceros and Leptocylindrus minimus are indicators of upwelling.  相似文献

Summary The distribution of phytoplankton along transects amounting to about 10,000 nautical miles in the sector of the Southern Ocean between 20° and 70°W was determined during the austral summer of 1978/79. Chlorophyll a concentration was monitored by the continuous measurement of in vivo fluorescence (IVF). Surface samples were collected for the determination of temperature, salinity, chlorophyll a concentration, carbon fixation rate and species of the phytoplankton. Phytoplankton distribution was found to be extremely patchy both locally and regionally. High phytoplankton concentrations were often associated with either hydrographic features, such as upwelling or the presence of sea-ice, or with bathymetric features, such as shelf breaks, submarine mountain ranges or islands. Enrichment experiments, in which the effects of various nutrient additions on the rate of 14C fixation by the natural phytoplankton were compared, and bioassay experiments, in which the growth of Thalassiosira pseudonana (Hustedt) Hasle and Heimdal in enriched water samples was measured, were carried out using water samples collected at various stations throughout the study area. Although these techniques were effective in demonstrating nutrient limitation elsewhere, the results suggest that availability of nitrate, phosphate, silicate, trace metals or vitamins exerts no primary control over phytoplankton abundance south of the Polar Front.  相似文献

Summary Geographical distribution of biomass and species, community structure, and size comparisons of pelagic shrimps were investigated in the upper 1000m in the Southern Ocean between 150° E and 115° E during the austral summer (December 1985 and January 1986). The biomass ranged from 0 to 4.25 g wet weight/1000 m3 collected by the IKMT and in general tended to decrease southward. The average biomass north of the Polar Front and in the Antarctic Zone was 2.55 and 0.40 g/1000 m3, respectively. Twenty species were collected and of these eight were in the Antarctic Zone. Pelagic shrimps in the study area were assigned to four categories by their geographical distribution. The first included five upper meso-pelagic species and was restricted to the Subtropical Zone. The second included seven lower meso-pelagic species and occurred in the Subtropical and Subantarctic Zones. The third included seven lower meso-and bathy-pelagic species and was distributed from the Subtropical Zone to the Antartic Zone. The fourth category of one species was distributed from the Subantarctic Zone to the Antarctic Zone. We suggest that oceanic fronts in the study area do not constitute a distributional barrier to lower meso-and bathy-pelagic shrimps.  相似文献

The aim of this paper was to explore egg-laying areas of oviparous chondrichthyans occurring in the northern part of the Southwest Atlantic Ocean (36°S–41°S) at between 50 and 200 metres depth and the Mar del Plata Canyon (from 200 to 3447?m). A total of 515 capsules were collected corresponding to 10 species. Four species accounted for 87.6% of the total catch: Psammobatis normani, Bathyraja macloviana, Amblyraja doellojuradoi and Bathyraja brachyurops. The remaining corresponded to Schroederichthys bivius, Psammobatis rudis, Zearaja chilensis, Bathyraja albomaculata, Psammobatis lentiginosa and Bathyraja sp. Most hauls were monospecific and relatively few hauls contained four or five species (southern part of the area, in sites located at 75 and 94–105?m depth). No egg capsules were recorded between 1712?m and 3447?m. Highest densities (>3000 capsules/km2) were mainly found between 39°46.2′ and 40°29.9′S from 85 to 105?m and they were also recorded near the Mar del Plata Canyon at 37°59.7′S and at 852?m. The highest value recorded was 12,326 capsules/km2 (located at 40°18.9′S and 85.4?m). The highest densities for each of the most abundant species are discussed. The finding of high densities of egg cases near the Argentine shelf-break front indicates that many skate species use this area as a nursery site. The egg-laying areas explored here are the first reported sites of this kind in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean. Recognizing and protecting egg-laying habitats may be important steps to a long-term conservation of oviparous chondrichthyan populations.  相似文献

Indian Ocean hydrothermal vents are believed to represent a novel biogeographic province, and are host to many novel genera and families of animals, potentially indigenous to Indian Ocean hydrothermal systems. In particular, since its discovery in 2001, much attention has been paid to a so-called 'scaly-foot' gastropod because of its unique iron-sulfide-coated dermal sclerites and the chemosynthetic symbioses in its various tissues. Despite increasing interest in the faunal assemblages at Indian Ocean hydrothermal vents, only two hydrothermal vent fields have been investigated in the Indian Ocean. Here we report two newly discovered hydrothermal vent fields, the Dodo and Solitaire fields, which are located in the Central Indian Ridge (CIR) segments 16 and 15, respectively. Chemosynthetic faunal communities at the Dodo field are emaciated in size and composition. In contrast, at the Solitaire field, we observed faunal communities that potentially contained almost all genera found at CIR hydrothermal environments to date, and even identified previously unreported taxa. Moreover, a new morphotype of 'scaly-foot' gastropod has been found at the Solitaire field. The newly discovered 'scaly-foot' gastropod has similar morphological and anatomical features to the previously reported type that inhabits the Kairei field, and both types of 'scaly-foot' gastropods genetically belong to the same species according to analyses of their COI gene and nuclear SSU rRNA gene sequences. However, the new morphotype completely lacks an iron-sulfide coating on the sclerites, which had been believed to be a novel feature restricted to 'scaly-foot' gastropods. Our new findings at the two newly discovered hydrothermal vent sites provide important insights into the biodiversity and biogeography of vent-endemic ecosystems in the Indian Ocean.  相似文献

Summary Immobilized cell technology was used to prepare concentrated cultures ofLactococcus lactis that lost only 22% of viability over a 30-day storage period at 4°C. Concentrated cultures ofL lactis CRA-1 were immobilized in calcium alginate beads and added to glycerol, NaCl or sucrose-NaCl solutions in order to obtain aw readings ranging from 0.91 to 0.97. The suspensions were subsequently placed at 4°C and viability (CFU g–1 of bead) was followed during storage. Viability losses were high at aw readings of 0.95 and 0.97 and pH dropped significantly (up to one unit) in the unbuffered solutions. Addition of 1% soytone or glycerophosphate helphed stabilize pH, and a beneficial effect on viability during storage was observed in the glycerol-soytone mix when the beads were added to the conservation solutions immediately following immobilization. When beads were added to the conservation solution immediately following immobilization, a 70% drop in cell counts occurred during the first 5 days of incubation. Dipping theL lactis-carrying beads in milk for 2h before mixing with the glycerolsoytone 0.93 aw solution reduced this initial 5-day viability loss. Cultures grown in the alginate beads also had good stability in the 0.93 aw glycerol-soytone solution, where 78% of the population was viable after 30 days at 4°C. The process could be used to store immobilized cells at a processing plant, or by suppliers of lactic starters who wish to ship cultures without freezing or drying.  相似文献

We have analyzed the promoter and the coding sequences of the two homologous histone H1°-encoding genes from Xenopus laevis, here termed H1°-1 and H1°-2. Both genes encode proteins of 193 amino acids and differ at just 16 amino-acid residues. Putative regulatory sequences identified in the promoter region are the same and are highly conserved. However, significant differences exist in the 5′ untranslated regions (UTR) of the transcribed sequences of these two genes, such as several deletions in the 5′-UTR of the H1°-2 gene in comparison with the H1°-1 gene 5′-UTR. The 3′-UTR is a short sequence of about 200 bp which is unexpected compared with the long 3′-UTR of mammalian H1° mRNA, but it is in the same size range as in avian H5 mRNA. Thus, the main differences between these two genes are observed in sequences potentially involved in the regulation of the H1° gene expression such as the 5′-UTR. The two genes are expressed during embryogenesis and in several adult tissues. We discuss these findings in terms of the evolution of histone H1° genes in vertebrates and the appearance of histone H5 in avian species.© 1997 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.  相似文献

The H1° gene has a long 3′ untranslated region (3′UTR) of 1,125 nucleotides in the rat and 1,310 in humans. Analysis of the sequences shows that they have features of simple DNA that suggest involvement of replication slippage in their evolution. These features include the length imbalance between the rat and human sequences; the abundance of single-base repeats, two-base runs and other simple motifs clustered along the sequence; and the presence of single-base repeat length polymorphisms in the rat and mouse sequences. Pairwise comparisons show numerous short insertions/deletions, often flanked by direct repeats. In addition, a proportion of short insertions/deletions results from length differences in conserved single-base repeats. Quantification of the sequence simplicity shows that simple sequences have been more actively incorporated in the human lineage than in the rodent lineage. The combination of insertions/deletions and nucleotide substitutions along the sequence gives rise to three main regions of homology: a highly variable central region flanked by more conserved regions nearest the coding region and the polyA addition site. The time-course of thyroliberin transfer to the nucleus of GH3/B6 rat pituitary prolactin cells was studied by both autoradiography and cell fractionation of intact cells exposed to [3H]thyroliberin at 4°C or 37°C. It was previously shown that thyroliberin is not degraded in these conditions. It is found by autoradiography that [3H]-thyroliberin is transferred to the nucleus of GH3/B6 cells within 5 min at least at both 37° C and 4°C. Consistent results are obtained by fractionation of cells exposed to [3H]thyroliberin at 37°C. However after binding at 4°C 50% of the cell radioactivity is extractible by glutaraldehyde and after fractionation the isolated nuclei retain only 1–1.5% of the cell radioactivity. This suggests the existence of both tightly bound and loosely bound internalized thyroliberin molecules.  相似文献

The acclimatization of methanogens to two-phase olive mill wastes (TPOMW) was investigated in pilot fermenters started up with cattle excreta (37°C) and after changing their feed to excreta plus TPOMW (37°C or 55°C) or TPOMW alone (37°C) until a steady state was reached (28 days). Methanogenic diversity was screened using a phylogenetic microarray (AnaeroChip), and positive targets were quantified by real-time PCR. Results revealed high phylogenetic richness, with representatives of three out of the four taxonomic orders found in digesters. Methanosarcina dominated in the starting excreta (>96% of total 16S rRNA gene copies; over 45 times more abundant than any other methanogen) at high acetate (0.21 g liter−1) and ammonia N concentrations (1.3 g liter−1). Codigestion at 37°C induced a 6-fold increase of Methanosarcina numbers, correlated with CH4 production (rPearson = 0.94; P = 0.02). At 55°C, the rise in temperature and H2 partial pressure induced a burst of Methanobacterium, Methanoculleus, Methanothermobacter, and a group of uncultured archaea. The digestion of excreta alone resulted in low but constant biogas production despite certain oscillations in the methanogenic biomass. Unsuccessful digestion of TPOMW alone was attributed to high Cu levels inducing inhibition of methanogenic activity. In conclusion, the versatile Methanosarcina immediately adapted to the shift from excreta to excreta plus TPOMW and was responsible for the stimulated CH4 production at 37°C. Higher temperatures (55°C) fostered methanogenic diversity by promoting some H2 scavengers while yielding the highest CH4 production. Further testing is needed to find out whether there is a link between increased methanogenic diversity and reactor productivity.Turning residues into energy is a societal and scientific priority due to climate change, fossil fuel exhaustion, and waste accumulation. In 2006, in Europe (EU27), less than 3% of electricity production came from biomass and wastes (11). Biogas plants, which anaerobically treat organic wastes to produce energy, are increasingly promoted in Europe, but their distribution is highly biased (35). While thousands of full- and farm-scale biogas plants are spread over central and northern Europe, anaerobic digestion technology in Mediterranean countries—Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey—is in its early stages (35). These nations and other circum-Mediterranean countries lead in the production of olive oil and thus in olive mill wastes and wastewaters, which have a huge biogas production potential due to their lipid composition (1). Spain alone generates one-third of the world''s oil production and millions of tons of two-phase olive mill wastes (TPOMW) per year. TPOMW are mostly burned or composted (28), hence releasing methane into the atmosphere. This compels a change in strategy: methane production from TPOMW should be optimized in engineered environments and transformed into energy.TPOMW is a humid residue containing the olive pulp and stone. Its anaerobic digestibility is hampered by its low pH, low ammonia N, and high content in antimicrobial substances (1). However, it has been successfully fermented under laboratory conditions by supplementing it with nutrients and increasing the reactor organic loading rate stepwise (2) or by codigesting it with residues with a high buffering capacity, e.g., cattle excreta (17). These approaches seem to facilitate the adaptation of the methane-producing anaerobic community to the environmental conditions that TPOMW impose.Methanogenic archaea—microbes clustered within five orders of the Euryarchaeota—constitute the last step in the trophic chain of decomposers degrading organic matter in oxygen-free environments (36). Methanogenesis is often the rate-limiting step of anaerobic digestion of organic wastes (3) due to the fast duplication times of bacteria, which generate all substrates for the slow-growing methane-producing archaea. It is also the most sensitive step in processing imbalances (4), likely due to the lack of functional redundancy among methanogens (8). High concentrations of volatile fatty acids, salts, ammonia, and heavy metals can be inhibitory for methanogens (5, 22) and are the most common reasons for reactor failure (3). Our objective was to understand the adaptation of methanogenic communities to TPOMW. We investigated methanogenic diversity and abundance in pilot digesters fed with cattle excreta and after changing their feed to TPOMW or TPOMW plus excreta. We expected that mixing both residues would allow a faster adaptation and more efficient performance of the methanogenic communities in digesting TPOMW. The cofermentation was evaluated at 37°C and 55°C. During an acclimatization period of 28 days, we screened the methanogenic diversity using an in-house-devised phylogenetic microarray, the AnaeroChip (13), and quantified dominant genera by real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR). We have taken primers from the literature, and we present four new sets of genus-specific primers and SYBR green I-optimized assays for quantifying methanogens in anaerobic environments.  相似文献

This paper identifies the larval fish community distribution, emphasizing non-commercial species, in the coastal zone and the adjacent oceanic area off the Peninsula de Mejillones (23°S, 71°W) during the 1997 El Niño. We performed one survey in the austral summer (January) and one in the austral winter (July). In January, cold, upwelled water dominated the area off the Peninsula de Mejillones with a cold-water filament extending 60 nm offshore. In July, warm Subtropical Surface Waters affected the area. We identified a total of 56 taxa, which included taxa from different adult habitats (coastal, epipelagic, epi-mesopelagic and mesopelagic). The most abundant species were Engraulis ringens (18% and 21%), Bathylagus sp. (4% and 5%), Diogenichthys laternatus(12% and 39%), Lampanyctus parvicauda (9% and 2%), Triphoturus mexicanus (14% and 3%) and Vinciguerria spp. (21% and 23%), in January and July, respectively. A multidimensional scaling (MDS) ordination and similitude dendograms revealed changes in the larval fish community structure influenced by hydrographic conditions. The rank correlations between the assemblage similarity matrix and the physical variables matrix indicate the importance of the distance from shore and production processes (represented by chlorophyll-a) on the assemblage distributions. Off the Mejillones' coast, there is a complex spatial and temporal hydrographic system where ichthyoplankton of coastal and oceanic fish species coexist. Despite both short-term and longer-term disruptive oceanographic processes (e.g., mesoscale filaments, El Niño events), it seems that the numerically dominant species persist in the area due to their various behavioral strategies and physiological adaptations.  相似文献

The vertical distribution of heterotrophic bacteria and four ultraphytoplanktonic (<10 µm) groups (Prochlorococcus, Synechococcus, pico- and nanoeukaryotes) was investigated by flow cytometry at three process stations located in three different sub-systems belonging to the Antarctic Circumpolar Current frontal zone and to the Southern Indian Ocean (60–66°E, 43–46°S; ANTARES 4 cruise, January-February 1999): the Subtropical Zone (STZ), the Convergence Zone and the Polar Frontal Zone (PFZ). In each sub-system, short-term variability of cell abundance and flow cytometric parameters (right-angle light scatter and chlorophyll autofluorescence) was assessed through a times series of up to 24 h with a 2 h sampling frequency. The ultraphytoplankton vertical distribution exhibited a high spatial variability, with dominance of Prochlorococcus in the STZ (mean: 762.85×1010 cells m–2), whereas picoeukaryotes (<3 µm) were dominant in the PFZ (55.46×1010 cells m–2), a typically high-nutrient low-chlorophyll zone. Heterotrophic bacteria abundance was maximum (9.84×1013 cells m–2) in the frontal zone, between the Agulhas Front and the Subtropical Front. Nanoeukaryotes showed the largest (up to 80%) variations between two consecutive sampling periods (2 h). Abundance variations could not be assigned to the same water mass during the time series due to the highly variable hydrodynamics of the study area. Trends of short-term abundance variations were opposite between the PFZ (lowest at night) and north of the Subtropical Front (highest at night). The observed spatial and short-term variations illustrate the complexity of the water masses in the Indian sector of the Southern Ocean, and highlight the challenge of extrapolating discrete measurements over space and time for use in evaluating carbon budgets in such dynamic areas.  相似文献

Temperature variations in cells, tissues and organs may occur in a number of circumstances. We report here that reducing temperature of cells in culture to 25°C for 5 days followed by a rewarming to 37°C affects cell biology and induces a cellular stress response. Cell proliferation was almost arrested during mild hypothermia and not restored upon returning to 37°C. The expression of cold shock genes, CIRBP and RBM3, was increased at 25°C and returned to basal level upon rewarming while that of heat shock protein HSP70 was inversely regulated. An activation of pro-apoptotic pathways was evidenced by FACS analysis and increased Bax/Bcl2 and BclXS/L ratios. Concomitant increased expression of the autophagosome-associated protein LC3II and AKT phosphorylation suggested a simultaneous activation of autophagy and pro-survival pathways. However, a large proportion of cells were dying 24 hours after rewarming. The occurrence of DNA damage was evidenced by the increased phosphorylation of p53 and H2AX, a hallmark of DNA breaks. The latter process, as well as apoptosis, was strongly reduced by the radical oxygen species (ROS) scavenger, N-acetylcysteine, indicating a causal relationship between ROS, DNA damage and cell death during mild cold shock and rewarming. These data bring new insights into the potential deleterious effects of mild hypothermia and rewarming used in various research and therapeutical fields.  相似文献

This work examined the diet of the porbeagle shark Lamna nasus in the south-west Atlantic Ocean (SWAO, Argentina, 52° S–56° S) by analysing the stomach content information obtained by scientific observers who sampled specimens captured as by-catch on-board commercial fishing vessels from 2010 to 2020. A total of 148 fishing sites were analysed, in which the estimated catch was composed mainly of hoki Macruronus magellanicus (56.00%) and southern blue whiting Micromesistius australis (33.13%). From 413 porbeagle sharks sampled (292 females and 121 males) ranging from 71 to 241 cm total length (LT) (mean: 179.76 ± 26.74 cm), 310 (75.06%) contained food in the stomachs. The forage fish were mainly hoki M. magellanicus (23.53%) and southern blue whiting M. australis (19.05%), followed by the Patagonian sprat Sprattus fuegensis (4.48%) and nototheniids (1.4%). Cephalopods and crustaceans accounted for 10% of the diet. The estimated trophic level was 4.35. Generalized linear models revealed that the consumption of hoki M. magellanicus and southern blue whiting M. australis increased with the LT of the porbeagle shark. Moreover, smaller porbeagle sharks preyed upon both small and large teleost fish, whereas larger porbeagle sharks predated exclusively upon large fish. The diet of porbeagle shark involved interactions with fisheries as it fed upon the fish species that constituted the main catch in the analysed fishing sites, as well as the main catches of the austral trawl fisheries. The ecological role of porbeagle shark observed in the SWAO exposed implications for fisheries management from a multispecies perspective.  相似文献

In chemostat cultures of Bacillus caldolyticus, adaptation in a single step from 70–100°C was followed under aerobic and oxygen-limited conditions and was found to proceed more smoothly under the latter circumstances. Variations of the medium (e.g. yeast extract or silicate concentrations) showed that growth at 100°C is in all respects similar to that of cultures at moderate temperatures.Enzyme preparations derived from cultures at 5°C intervals between 70 and 100°C were used to determine the temperature range. For all nine enzymes tested, the optimum temperature was found to be 67°C; the latter was independent of the growth temperature. Differences were found, however, with respect to the maximum temperature of individual enzymes, and three groups, with maxima between 70 and 80°C, 80 and 90°C and 90 and 100°C can be distinguished. Again, there was no correlation with the growth temperature.Stability experiments also revealed that enzymes from the same organism can have different thermal properties: Some were found to be quite thermolabile (e.g. the pyruvate kinase), while others (e.g. hexokinase and glutamate-pyruvate transaminase) exhibited a high thermostability. These properties were not related to the growth temperature within the 70–100°C range, too.Six of the enzymes tested could be stabilized by their respective substrates, but the degree of protection varied for individual enzymes. Three enzymes (acetate kinase, glutamate dehydrogenase and myokinase) could not be stabilized by their substrates.Comparative experiments with the hexokinase suggested, that the thermal integrity of the enzymes is better protected within the cell as compared to the stability of the enzyme preparations.Abbreviations used AK acetate kinase - Ala-DH alanine dehydrogenase - Ald aldolase - GIDH glutamate dehydrogenase - G6P-DH glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase - GTP glutamate-pyruvate transaminase - HK hexokinase - ICDH isocitrate dehydrogenase - MK myokinase - PK pyruvate kinase  相似文献

In January 2004 the microplankton community from the coastal waters of Terre Adélie and Georges V Land (139°E–145°E) was studied. Results showed a diatom-dominated bloom with chlorophyll a levels averaging 0.64 μg l−1 at 5 m depth (range 0.21–1.57 μg l−1). Three geographic assemblages of diatoms were identified, based on principal diatom taxa abundances. The stratified waters near the Mertz Glacier presented highest phytoplankton biomasses (0.28–1.57 μg Chl a l−1 at 5 m) and diatom abundances (6,507–70,274 cells l−1 at 5 m), but low diversity, dominated by Fragilariopsis spp. Lower biomasses (0.38–0.94 μg Chl a l−1 at 5 m) and abundances (394–9,058 cells l−1 at 5 m) were observed in the mixed waters around the Astrolabe Glacier with a diverse diatom community characterised by larger species Corethron pennatum and Rhizosolenia spp. Finally an intermediate zone between them over the shallower shelf waters of the Adélie Bank represented by Chaetoceros criophilus, where biomasses (0.21–0.35 μg Chl a l−1 at 5 m) and abundances (1,190–5,431 cells l−1 at 5 m) were lowest, coinciding with the presence of abundant herbivorous zooplankton.  相似文献

We explored the relationships between surface-soil (1–20 cm) organic carbon isotopic signatures and associated climatic factors in central-east Asia in an attempt to develop transfer functions that can be used to retrieve the paleoclimatic information stored in the thick eolian–paleosol sequences within the area. Our analysis shows that the negative correlation between the surface-soil organic δ13C values and the mean annual precipitation is robust (R2 = 0.453; n = 196; p < 0.05) and the negative correlation with the growing-season (April–September) precipitation is more significant (R2 = 0.4966; n = 196; p < 0.05). Our study further shows that the positive correlation between the surface-soil organic δ13C values and mean growing-season aridity is most significant (R2 = 0.5805; n = 196; p < 0.05). We have smoothed both the organic δ13C values and the mean growing-season aridity values using a 3-point moving-window average-filter method in an attempt to remove some of random errors and found that the positive correlation between the two is further increased (R2 =  0.7784; n =  192; p < 0.05). These robust linear relationships demonstrate their value in reconstructing paleoclimate changes in the study area. The documented climatic dependency of the surface-soil carbon isotopic composition in the study area might have resulted both from the humidity-related isotopic enrichment processes of the dominant C3 plants (stomatal conductance and photosynthetic discrimination) and from the aridity-related abundance of C4 plants (mainly Chenopodiaceae species) along the S–N bioclimatic gradient.  相似文献
