Addition of NaCl at 2.5% to tryptic soy broth (TSB) significantly increased the growth of Photobacterium damselae subsp. damselae. Tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon held in 25 per thousand seawater were injected with P. damsela subsp. damselae grown in TSB containing NaCl at 0.5%, 1.5%, 2.5% and 3.5% at a dose of 8.48 x 10(4)colony-forming units (cfu)shrimp(-1). Over 24-96 h, the cumulative mortality was significantly higher for the shrimp challenged with P. damselae subsp. damselae grown in 2.5% NaCl than those grown in 0.5%, 1.5% and 3.5% NaCl. In another experiment, P. monodon held in 25 per thousand were injected with TSB-grown P. damselae subsp. damselae (8.48 x 10(4)cfushrimp(-1)), and then transferred to 5 per thousand, 15 per thousand, 25 per thousand (control) and 35 per thousand. After 96 h, the mortality was highest for the P. damselae subsp. damselae-injected shrimp held in 5 per thousand, and the lowest for the P. damselae subsp. damselae-injected shrimp held in 25 per thousand. In a separate experiment, P. monodon held in 25 per thousand and then transferred to 5 per thousand, 15 per thousand, 25 per thousand (control) and 35 per thousand were examined for immune parameters, and phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency of P. damselae subsp. damselae after 12-96 h. The THC, hyaline cell, phenoloxidase activity, respiratory burst, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency decreased significantly for the shrimp held in 5 per thousand, 15 per thousand and 35 per thousand after 12h. It is concluded that tiger shrimp P. monodon transferred from 25 per thousand to low salinity levels (5 per thousand and 15 per thousand) and high salinity (35 per thousand) had reduced immune ability and decreased resistance against P. damselae subsp. damselae infection.  相似文献

The ELISPOT assay was used to measure the number of specific antibody secreting cells (ASC) induced during the primary and secondary immune responses in the spleen, head kidney and gut of juvenile (5 g) sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) to bacterial (Vibrio anguillarum and Photobacterium damselae ssp. piscicida) and hapten dinitrophenyl-conjugated to keyhole limpet haemocyanin (DNP-KLH) antigens administered intraperitoneally. High variability among individuals was observed at each sampling day. All fish were bath vaccinated to V. anguillarum at an earlier stage (2 g) in the farm of origin prior to the development of the experiments, and therefore only secondary and tertiary responses were measured in the group immunised with this bacterium. Significant differences to the controls were observed in the primary responses of the head kidney and the spleen to P. damselae ssp. piscicida and DNP, respectively. Frequency analysis of the production of ASC suggests that significant responses in the gut might be masked by the high error variance. The peak of the primary response was observed 4 days earlier to DNP (18-20 days post-immunisation) and it was significantly higher than the response to P. damselae ssp. piscicida. Higher numbers of ASC were observed in the secondary responses of the head kidney and spleen, although they were not statistically significantly different from the primary levels, probably due to the high error variance as supported by the frequency analysis. Nevertheless, together with a faster response (peak at 7 days post-immunisation), the data suggest that memory formation had occurred. Additionally, the data suggest that some suppression of the secondary immune response in the gut might have occurred. The head kidney appears to produce the highest number of specific ASC of the organs tested. It appears that sea bass show a relatively fast but short duration antibody response.  相似文献

Vaccination with bacterial auxotrophs, particularly those with an interruption in the common pathway of aromatic amino-acid biosynthesis, known as the shikimate pathway, has been shown to be effective in the prevention of a variety of bacterial diseases. In order to evaluate this approach to vaccine development in the important marine pathogen Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida, the aroA gene of the shikimate pathway was identified from a P. damselae subsp. piscicida genomic library by complementation in an aroA mutant of Escherichia coli. The complementing plasmid was isolated and the nucleotide sequence of the P. damselae subsp. piscicida genomic insert was determined. Subsequent analysis of the DNA-sequence data demonstrated that the identified plasmid contained 3464 bp of P. damselae subsp. piscicida DNA, including the complete aroA gene. The sequence data was used to delete a 144 bp MscI fragment, and the kanamycin resistance gene (kan) from transposon Tn903 was ligated into the MscI site. This delta(aro)A::kan construct was sub-cloned into a suicide plasmid and transferred to a wild-type P. damselae subsp. piscicida by conjugation and allelic exchange. One selected mutant, LSU-P2, was confirmed phenotypically to require supplementation with aromatic metabolites for growth in minimal media, and was confirmed genotypically by PCR and DNA sequencing. Further, LSU-P2 was demonstrated to be avirulent in hybrid striped bass and to provide significant protection against disease following challenge with the wild-type strain.  相似文献

A strategy used by extracellular pathogens to evade phagocytosis is the utilization of exotoxins that kill host phagocytes. We have recently shown that one major pathogenicity strategy of Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida (Phdp), the agent of the widespread fish pasteurellosis, is the induction of extensive apoptosis of sea bass macrophages and neutrophils that results in lysis of these phagocytes by post-apoptotic secondary necrosis. Here we show that this unique process is mediated by a novel plasmid-encoded apoptosis inducing protein of 56 kDa (AIP56), an exotoxin abundantly secreted by all virulent, but not avirulent, Phdp strains tested. AIP56 is related to an unknown protein of the enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7 and NleC, a Citrobacter rodentium type III secreted effector of unknown function. Passive immunization of sea bass with a rabbit anti-AIP56 serum conferred protection against Phdp challenge, indicating that AIP56 represents a key virulence factor of that pathogen and is a candidate for the design of an anti-pasteurellosis vaccine.  相似文献

Inoculation of small gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) (30-75 g body weight) with a sublethal dose of different Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida (Pdp) strains (DI-21 and 94/99) induced an increase in serum concentrations of stable nitric oxide (NO) metabolites lasting from 6 h to six days post-infection, with a peak at 24 h. In contrast, no such response was detected in larger fish (150-600 g). Since the virulence of Pdp correlates with the presence of a polysaccharide capsular layer which can be induced by growing the bacteria in medium supplemented with 1% glucose (C+ forms), the effect of the presence of an enhanced capsular layer on the NO response in small fish was also evaluated. Although, all bacteria induced a similar rapid (6 h) and sustained (up to six days) NO response, serum concentrations of nitrites and citrulline were significantly increased in fish infected with the Pdp strains grown in glucose-supplemented medium. When the NO response of fish infected with the C+ form of Pdp was blocked by prior injection of the inhibitor L-NAME, the LD(50) was reduced by over 10-fold and the mean time to death was also markedly reduced. Considering that (i) pasteurellosis only affects gilthead seabream with body weights below 100 g; (ii) capsulated Pdp are more resistant to the bactericidal action of NO and peroxynitrites than non-capsulated strains; and (iii) blocking the NO response of the fish results in greater susceptibility to Pdp, it seems reasonable to propose that the sustained NO response reported in this study represents a relevant protective mechanism of juvenile gilthead seabream against pasteurellosis.  相似文献

A virulent strain of Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida (Pdp) was grown without (C form) or with (C+ form) glucose supplementation, the latter to enhance capsule formation. Both forms were resistant to killing by normal serum of seabream, red porgy and seabass. However, the C form was killed by immune serum of all three fish species while the C+ form was killed only by seabream and red porgy sera and to a lesser extent than the C form. Both C and C+ forms consumed complement in normal serum and this consumption was enhanced by precoating the bacteria in specific fish antibody. Complement consumption was greatest in seabass serum, especially with antibody-coated C+ form yet in this case the bacteria were not killed. The killing of the C form in immune serum of all three fish species was completely inhibited by EGTA/Mg(2+), indicating that the mechanism of complement activation leading to killing of the bacteria was by the classical pathway. The results suggest that immune serum killing by the classical complement pathway may provide some degree of protection against pasteurellosis, but enhanced expression of the capsule by Pdp in vivo may restrict complement-mediated killing, especially in immunised seabass.  相似文献

The causative agent of fish pasteurellosis, the organism formerly known as Pasteurella piscicida, has been reclassified as Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida on the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons and chromosomal DNA-DNA hybridization data; thus, this organism belongs to the same species as Photobacterium damselae subsp. damselae (formerly Vibrio damselae). Since reassignment of P. damselae subsp. piscicida was based on only two strains, one objective of the present work was to confirm the taxonomic position of this fish pathogen by sequencing the 16S rRNA genes of 26 strains having different geographic and host origins. In addition, a nested PCR protocol for detection of P. damselae based on 16S rRNA was developed. This PCR protocol was validated by testing 35 target and 24 nontarget pure cultures, and the detection limits obtained ranged from 1 pg to 10 fg of DNA (200 to 20 cells). A similar level of sensitivity was observed when the PCR protocol was applied to fish tissues spiked with bacteria. The PCR approach described in this paper allows detection of the pathogen in mixed plate cultures obtained from asymptomatic fish suspected to be carriers of P. damselae subsp. piscicida, in which growth of this bacterium cannot be visualized. Our results indicate that the selective primers which we designed represent a powerful tool for sensitive and specific detection of fish pasteurellosis.  相似文献

Three feeding trials were conducted to evaluate potential immunomodulatory effects of nucleotides in the diet of hybrid striped bass. A basal diet was formulated from menhaden fish meal to contain 40% crude protein and 10% lipid. An oligonucleotide product (Ascogen P) from brewer's yeast was added to the basal formulation at the manufacturer's recommended rate of 0.5% to produce the experimental diet. Each diet was fed to four replicate groups of juvenile hybrid striped bass for seven or eight weeks in two separate trials. After Trials 1 and 2, a Streptococcus iniae bath challenge was executed to test the effects of diet on disease resistance. No significant difference in growth performance was observed between fish fed the basal and experimental diets. Body composition of whole fish, hematocrit and serum lysozyme levels were observed to be within normal ranges and not influenced by dietary nucleotides. Neutrophil oxidative radical production of fish fed the nucleotide-supplemented diet was significantly (P=0.011) higher than in fish fed the basal diet. Significantly (P<0.05) enhanced survival after exposure to S. iniae also was generally observed in fish fed the nucleotide-supplemented diet. In addition, fish fed the nucleotide-supplemented diet tended to have a higher antibody response based on microtitration agglutination; however, the difference was not statistically significant because of high variation between individual fish. Long-term (16 weeks) administration of oligonucleotides in Trial 3 failed to show enhancement of immune responses between treatments. It is concluded that dietary oligonucleotides positively influenced immune responses and resistance of juvenile hybrid striped bass to S. iniae infection.  相似文献

A PCR protocol for the rapid diagnosis of fish 'pasteurellosis' based on 16S rRNA gene sequences was developed. The procedure combines low annealing temperature that detects low titers of Photobacterium damselae but also related species, and high annealing temperature for the specific identification of P. damselae directly from infected fish. The PCR protocol was validated on 19 piscine isolates of P. damselae ssp. piscicida from different geographic regions (Japan, Italy, Spain, Greece and Israel), on spontaneously infected sea bream Sparus aurata and sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax, and on closely related American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) reference strains. PCR using high annealing temperature (64 degrees C) discriminated between P. damselae and closely related reference strains, including P. histaminum. Sixteen isolates of P. damselae ssp. piscicida, 2 P. damselae ssp. piscicida reference strains and 1 P. damselae ssp. damselae reference strain were subjected to Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) analysis, and a similarity matrix was produced. Accordingly, the Japanese isolates of P. damselae ssp. piscicida were distinguished from the Mediterranean/European isolates at a cut-off value of 83% similarity. A further subclustering at a cut-off value of 97% allowed discrimination between the Israeli P. damselae ssp. piscicida isolates and the other Mediterranean/European isolates. The combination of PCR direct amplification and AFLP provides a 2-step procedure, where P. damselae is rapidly identified at genus level on the basis of its 16S rRNA gene sequence and then grouped into distinct clusters on the basis of AFLP polymorphisms. The first step of direct amplification is highly sensitive and has immediate practical consequences, offering fish farmers a rapid diagnosis, while the AFLP is more specific and detects intraspecific variation which, in our study, also reflected geographic correspondence. Because of its superior discriminative properties, AFLP can be an important tool for epidemiological and taxonomic studies of this highly homogeneous genus.  相似文献

The infection of sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of the agent of fish pasteurellosis Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida resulted in the apoptosis of peritoneal neutrophils and macrophages. All the eight virulent and none of the two non-virulent strains tested exhibited apoptogenic activity. A secreted bacterial protein(s) is a likely candidate as the factor(s) responsible for this activity, since no apoptosis was induced by i.p. injected UV-killed virulent strains and the virulent culture supernatants exhibited a thermo-labile apoptogenic activity identical to that of live bacteria. The apoptotic process was characterized by the occurrence of DNA fragmentation detected by terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining and DNA electrophoresis, and of typical ultrastructural alterations namely cell shrinkage, chromatin condensation, nuclear fragmentation and production of blebs with shedding of apoptotic bodies. In the apoptotic process induced by lethal doses of virulent bacteria or culture supernatants both peritoneal macrophages and neutrophils were extensively affected, the majority of these cells being apoptotic and reaching values around 10(7)per peritoneal cavity for each cell type at 24h post-injection. Moreover, the number of non-apoptotic macrophages was always below the initial number in the resting peritoneal cavity. Since macrophages are key cells in the elimination of both bacteria and apoptotic moribund cells and apoptotic bodies, the induction by Ph. damselae subsp. piscicida of simultaneous macrophage and neutrophil apoptosis results, on the one hand, in the destruction of the two phagocytic cell types involved in the restriction of multiplication of the bacteria and, on the other hand, in the uncontrolled progression of the apoptotic process towards secondary necrosis and eventual lysis of high numbers of moribund neutrophils and of neutrophilic apoptotic bodies, with the consequent extensive release of their highly cytotoxic components. Abundant apoptotic cells were also seen in sections of head-kidney from fish dying from experimental pasteurellosis. In contrast, no apoptosis was seen in vitro after the treatment with virulent culture supernatants of sea bass head-kidney macrophage cultures or after the treatment ex vivo of peritoneal exudate leukocytes with virulent bacteria or culture supernatants. The apoptotic process described here appears as a novel and very powerful microbial pathogenic strategy.  相似文献

The post-challenge immune and histopathologic responses of hybrid striped bass vaccinated with a DNA vaccine encoding the Mycobacterium marinum Ag85A gene and subsequently challenged with M. marinum were investigated. Juvenile hybrid striped bass Morone saxatilis x M. chrysops were injected intramuscularly with 25 or 50 microg DNA plasmid and developed significant specific protective responses to live bacterial challenge 120 d post-vaccination. Both vaccine groups demonstrated increased survival, reduced splenic bacterial counts, and reduced granuloma formation compared to the control groups 14 d after challenge with approximately 8 x 10(5) cfu M. marinum g(-1) fish body wt. The vaccine groups also developed more rapidly and significantly increased antibody and lymphoproliferative responses post-challenge compared to control groups, and these post-challenge immune responses appear to be vital against M. marinum infection in vaccinated hybrid striped bass. No significant differences in immune responses were recognized between the 25 and 50 microg vaccination groups, and these groups eventually experienced mortalities, splenic bacterial counts, and granuloma formation 28 d post-challenge comparable to those of the control groups at 14 d post-challenge. Therefore, vaccination of hybrid striped bass with a DNA vaccine encoding the M. marinum Ag85A gene provided significant but limited duration of protection against an acute high-dose M. marinum challenge.  相似文献

The accuracy of the magnetic beads-EIA based BIONOR AQUAEIA-Pp kit for the rapid diagnosis of pasteurellosis was evaluated. The kit reacted with all the Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida strains included in this study, with a detection limit of 10(4) bacteria/ml. However, non-specific reactions were observed with isolates of Ph. damselae subsp. damselae or Ph. histaminum when the bacterial concentration was high (10(9)-10(10) bacteria/ml). Similar findings in specificity and sensitivity were observed when the kit was applied to experimentally infected fish tissues. However, since those bacterial species are not usually found in the fish species susceptible to pasteurellosis, the AQUAEIA kit appears applicable for a rapid screening of the disease. In addition, when the kit was utilized to analyze cultured populations of seabream, it allowed the detection of the pathogen, not only in individuals affected by the disease, but also in asymptomatic carrier fish. Furthermore, the positive detection of Ph. damselae subsp. piscicida in broodstock gonads, seminal, and ovaric fluids, and also in eggs indicated the possibility of vertical transmission of pasteurellosis.  相似文献

Abstract Cells of Pasteurella haemolytica A2 were harvested directly from the pleural fluid of sheep with pneumonic pasteurellosis and the protein composition of their envelopes was examined by SDS-PAGE. Several high molecular-weight proteins expressed in pleural fluid were absent when the same isolate was grown in nutrient broth, but were produced during culture in iron restricted media. When the cell wall envelopes were examined by immunoblotting with sera and lung washes of lambs recovering from pneumonic pasteurellosis, antibodies to the major outer membrane proteins, the iron-regulated proteins and one other 'in vivo'-expressed antigen were present. These results have implications for the formulation of effective vaccines against pasteurellosis in sheep.  相似文献

A multiplex-PCR approach, employing 2 primer pairs directed to internal regions of the 16S rRNA and ureC genes, was utilized to analyze a collection of Photobacterium damselae strains, including 25 isolates of subspecies piscicida and 15 isolates of subspecies damselae. With this procedure, all the P. damselae subsp. damselae strains yielded 2 amplification products, one of 267 bp and the other of 448 bp, corresponding to internal fragments of the 16S rRNA and ureC genes, respectively. However, P. damselae subsp. piscicida isolates only showed the PCR product of 267 bp (16S rRNA fragment), indicating the absence of the urease gene in its genome. We have constructed a DNA probe directed to an internal region of the ureC gene, and corroborated by dot blot hybridization that the P. damselae subsp. piscicida lacks this gene, whereas it is present in the subspecies damselae. This constitutes the first successful discrimination between both subspecies using a PCR procedure, which could become a useful tool for diagnosis of pasteurellosis in the field. In addition, since these 2 subspecies have been shown to share nearly the same rrn operon sequence, our results provided evidence that one of the steps in the P. damselae speciation proccess included gain/loss events associated with the ure operon.  相似文献

Extremely high numbers of antibody secreting cells (ASC) were observed in the gills of sea bass fry immunised at three different age/sizes (initial weight of 0.1, 2 and 5 g) by direct immersion in a Photobacterium damselae spp. piscicida bacterin. The relatively low ASC production in the head kidney and spleen suggests that the systemic compartment was only slightly stimulated upon immersion vaccination. There was no response of corresponding magnitude in the gut as the one observed in the gills. A clear age effect was observed in the ASC response of the different groups, especially visible in the gills. Significantly higher numbers of specific ASC were observed in the gills of the two oldest groups (initial weight of 2 and 5 g) compared with the youngest fish (initial weight of 0.1 g), but the oldest groups were not significantly different from each other. Additionally, a more rapid response was observed with the ageing of the fish, with peak responses in all the organs at day 18, 16 and 8 post-immunisation in the smallest to largest fish, respectively. There was no evidence that direct immersion exposure to P. damselae ssp. piscicida at the earliest stages used in the present study (0.1 g) was tolerogenic. In the context of present knowledge, this study strongly supports the importance of the route of immunisation to locally stimulate ASC and the importance that the gills might have in specific responses.  相似文献

The gene encoding the ferric uptake regulator protein (fur gene) of the fish pathogenic bacterium Photobacterium damselae ssp. piscicida Strain D121 was partially amplified using degenerate oligonucleotides. Complete sequencing of the fur gene and neighbouring DNA was accomplished by primer walking. An open reading frame of 447 bp, coding for a protein of 148 amino acids, and with high homology to previously described Fur proteins, was identified. The fur gene of P. damselae ssp. damselae ATCC 35083 was subsequently amplified by PCR with specific primers and its sequence determined, showing a 99.3% similarity to the P. damselae ssp. piscicida fur gene. The P. damselae fur gene was able to complement the fur mutation of Escherichia coli Strain H1681 in an iron-dependent fashion.  相似文献

AIM: To characterize and identify Photobacterium damselae ssp. damselae present in black gill diseased Penaeus monodon collected from east coast of India. METHODS AND RESULTS: Photobacterium damselae ssp. damselae was isolated from hepatopancreas, muscles and gills by using the thiosulfate citrate bile salts sucrose agar supplemented with 1.5% NaCl (TCBS-1) medium. A total of 32 Ph. damselae ssp. damselae isolates were studied together with two reference strains. The biochemical tests and analysis of ureC and 16S rRNA genes confirmed the phenotypic characterization of the isolates as Ph damselae ssp. damselae. Experimental infection studies revealed that the LD50 values of P. monodon and P. indicus ranged from 2x10(3) to 5x10(5) CFU per shrimp and from 4x10(2) to 2x10(4) CFU per shrimp, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Photobacterium damselae ssp. damselae was found in the internal organs of P. monodon and it showed pathogenic to shrimp. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: This is the first study on the Ph. damselae ssp. damselae present in the black gill diseased P. monodon in India and therefore might serve as a basis for future studies and diagnosis purpose to shrimp culturists.  相似文献

Vibrio alginolyticus is one of the Vibrio pathogens common to humans and marine animals.During infection and induction of the host immune response, outer membrane proteins of bacteria play animportant role.In this study,an outer membrane protein gene(ompW)was cloned from V.alginolyticus andexpressed in Escherichia coli. The 645 bp open reading frame(ORF)encodes a protein of 214 amino acidresidues with a predicted molecular weight of 23.3 kDa.The amino acid sequence showed a high identitywith that of Photobacterium damselae(96.2%)and Vibrio parahaemolyticus(94.4%).The alignment analy-sis indicated that OmpW was highly conserved.Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresisshowed that the gene was over-expressed in E.coli BL21(DE3).Western blot analysis revealed that theexpressed protein had immunoreactivity. The recombinant protein was purified by affinity chromatographyon Ni-NTA Superflow resin.Large yellow croaker vaccinated with the purified OmpW showed significantlyincreased antibody to OmpW,which could resist the infection by V.alginolyticus.A specific antibody wasdetected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. This study suggested that the conserved OmpW could bean effective vaccine candidate against infection by V.alginolyticus.  相似文献

Whole cells of virulent (DI 21 and B 51) and avirulent (ATCC 29690 and EPOY 8803-II) strains of Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida, grown under iron-supplemented or iron-restricted conditions, were able to bind haemin. Iron limitation resulted in an increased binding of haemin by DI 21, B 51 and ATCC 29690 cells but did not affect the haemin-binding ability of the EPOY 8803-II cells. Proteinase K treatment of whole cells markedly reduced the binding of haemin, indicating that protein receptors located at the cell surface are involved in the binding. This was confirmed by the observation that isolated total as well as outer membrane proteins from all the strains, regardless of the iron levels of the media, were able to bind haemin, with the outer membranes showing the strongest binding. Haemin binding by membrane protein extracts was not affected by heat treatment but was almost completely abolished by Proteinase K treatment, suggesting the presence of thermostable protein receptors for haemin. The capsular polysaccharide also appears to play a minor role in binding of haemin. It was concluded that constitutive as well as inducible mechanisms of haemin binding occur in P. damselae subsp. piscicida. These mechanisms would rely mainly upon the direct interaction between the haemin molecules and surface-exposed outer membrane protein receptors.  相似文献

The antimicrobial compounds against the fish pathogen Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida were isolated from Polygonum sachalinense rhizomes. The structures of the antimicrobial compounds 1 and 2 were determined by 1H and 13C NMR, 2D-NMR (COSY, HSQC, HMBC and ROESY) and FAB-MS to be phenylpropanoid glycosides, vanicoside A and B, respectively. Both compounds have feruloyl and p-coumaroyl groups bonded to a sucrose moiety in their structures. Vanicoside A also has an acetyl group in the sucrose moiety. The MIC values for vanicoside A and B against Ph. damselae subsp. piscicida DPp-1 were 32 and 64 microg/ml, respectively. The antimicrobial activities of these vanicosides were modest, in contrast to higher activities (MICs at < 4 microg/ml) of antibiotics, florphenicol, ampicillin and amoxicillin, which have been generally used for treating pasteurellosis. The activities of the vanicosides, however, were higher than those (MICs at 256 microg/ml) of ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid. It was suggested that the structure of phenylpropanoids esterified with sucrose was essential for higher antimicrobial activity of vanicosides and also acetylation of sucrose might affect the activity against the bacterium.  相似文献
