植物根系间的相互作用分为竞争和互利两种形式 ,它是决定植物群落动态变化和群落结构的重要因素。根系间的竞争包括植株个体自身根系的竞争以及个体与个体根系间 (同种或异种 )的竞争两方面 ,前者的发生在农林系统中是不可避免的并且很难调控 ,后者可以分为种间植物根系的竞争和种内植物根系的竞争。还阐述了根系的竞争能力和与其密切相关的根系生长率、根组织的新陈代谢、植物的生长形式和根系的空间结构等植物特性 ,同时介绍了根系对水和养分的竞争机理、形式、影响以及竞争强度计算方法。接着具体分析包括根系错位在内的各种根系互利现象和相关机理。影响根系间相互作用的限制性因子有土壤营养的异质性、大气 CO2 浓度、地下草食生物、根系生产力和生物量、根系结构、形态和生理调节、土壤养分的扩散性以及植物间距等。随着科技的进步和各门学科的发展 ,未来根系的研究方向主要体现在结合实践优化农林系统中不同物种间的作用关系、预测根系竞争在全球气候变化下的发展规律、更新实验研究方法及手段研究作用机理等 3个方面。 相似文献

春小麦/春大豆间作是西北一熟制灌区广泛采用的高产种植形式.本文采用田间小区和微区根系分隔试验研究了这种种植形式作物种间的竞争作用和促进作用.结果表明,小麦/大豆间作具有明显的间作优势.土地当量比为1.23~1.26.小麦为优势种,竞争力强于大豆,具有明显的间作边行优势.小麦边行优势的1/3贡献来自于地下部.小麦收获后,大豆生长具有恢复作用,认为这种恢复作用是间作优势的机制之一.间作相对于单作两种作物的收获指数均有显著提高.收获指数的种间促进作用是间作优势的另一机制. 相似文献

经过10余年的发展,生态系统服务已经成为生态恢复研究关注的前沿和热点。生态恢复改变了生态系统格局与过程,对生态系统服务的产生和提供具有重要影响。但是目前对于生态系统服务在生态恢复过程中的演化仍缺少系统性研究。对国内外相关研究的最新成果进行综述,总结了生态系统服务评估中框架的构建和方法的选择(参数转移法、系统模型法和定量指标法),介绍了生态恢复对生态系统服务的促进作用、生态系统服务的演变过程以及不同生态系统服务间的协同与权衡关系,分析了社会经济因素对生态恢复和生态系统服务维持的影响。最后结合我国生态恢复实践,提出未来生态恢复和生态系统服务研究可以从深化作用机制研究、推动服务评估创新、增强研究成果应用3方面深化和拓展。 相似文献

The energetic costs of reproduction in birds strongly depend on the climate experienced during incubation. Climate change and increasing frequency of extreme weather events may severely affect these costs, especially for species incubating in extreme environments. In this 3‐year study, we used an experimental approach to investigate the effects of microclimate and nest shelter on the incubation effort of female common eiders (Somateria mollissima) in a wild Arctic population. We added artificial shelters to a random selection of nesting females, and compared incubation effort, measured as body mass loss during incubation, between females with and without shelter. Nonsheltered females had a higher incubation effort than females with artificial shelters. In nonsheltered females, higher wind speeds increased the incubation effort, while artificially sheltered females experienced no effect of wind. Although increasing ambient temperatures tended to decrease incubation effort, this effect was negligible in the absence of wind. Humidity had no marked effect on incubation effort. This study clearly displays the direct effect of a climatic variable on an important aspect of avian life‐history. By showing that increasing wind speed counteracts the energetic benefits of a rising ambient temperature, we were able to demonstrate that a climatic variable other than temperature may also affect wild populations and need to be taken into account when predicting the effects of climate change. 相似文献

Little is known of the co‐occurrence and implications of competitive and facilitative interactions within sites. Here we show spatially disjunct competition and facilitation at forest edges, with beneficial influences of trees on seedling growth via increased ectomycorrhizal infection apparent from 12 to 20 m while closer to trees seedling growth is negatively correlated with canopy closure. As a result, seedling growth is maximized at intermediate distances. Facilitative interactions were nonlinear: being within 15.7 m of a tree maximized seedling mycorrhizal infection; while competitive effects were correlated with canopy closure, which was related to distance and generally scales with density. These patterns result in a positive correlation of tree density and seedling growth at low densities of trees, and negative correlation at higher densities because of competition. A spatial model suggests that plant communities are a mosaic of positive and negative interactions, which may contribute to population homeostasis and plant diversity. 相似文献

Studies on tree communities have demonstrated that species diversity can enhance forest productivity, but the driving mechanisms at the local neighbourhood level remain poorly understood. Here, we use data from a large‐scale biodiversity experiment with 24 subtropical tree species to show that neighbourhood tree species richness generally promotes individual tree productivity. We found that the underlying mechanisms depend on a focal tree's functional traits: For species with a conservative resource‐use strategy diversity effects were brought about by facilitation, and for species with acquisitive traits by competitive reduction. Moreover, positive diversity effects were strongest under low competition intensity (quantified as the total basal area of neighbours) for acquisitive species, and under high competition intensity for conservative species. Our findings demonstrate that net biodiversity effects in tree communities can vary over small spatial scales, emphasising the need to consider variation in local neighbourhood interactions to better understand effects at the community level. 相似文献

Sperm production is a key male reproductive trait and an important parameter in sperm competition theory. Under sperm competition, paternity success is predicted to depend strongly on male allocation to sperm production. Furthermore, because sperm production is inherently costly, individuals should economize in sperm expenditure, and conditional adjustment of the copulation frequency according to their sperm availability may be expected. However, experimental studies showing effects of sperm production on mating behaviour and paternity success have so far been scarce, mainly because sperm production is difficult to manipulate directly in animals. Here, we used phenotypic engineering to manipulate sperm-production rate, by employing dose-dependent RNA interference (RNAi) of a spermatogenesis-specific gene, macbol1, in the free-living flatworm Macrostomum lignano. We demonstrate (i) that our novel dose-dependent RNAi approach allows us to induce high variability in sperm-production rate; (ii) that a reduced sperm-production rate is associated with a decreased copulation frequency, suggesting conditional adjustment of mating behaviour; and (iii) that both sperm production and copulation frequency are important determinants of paternity success in a competitive situation, as predicted by sperm competition theory. Our study clearly documents the potential of phenotypic engineering via dose-dependent RNAi to test quantitative predictions of evolutionary theory. 相似文献

The shelter defense dynamics of reproductively active (Form I) male red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii (Girard) were investigated by staging serial intrusions by male, maternal or non-maternal female conspecifics after one day of residence. The male residents showed a direct contest advantage only against non-maternal females, and won a significantly higher proportion of the encounters against non-maternal females than against either male or maternal female intruders. However, there was no significant difference in success against male or maternal female intruders. Further experiments against male intruders showed that increasing male prior residence to either 2 or 4 days did not significantly improve the residents' proportion of successful encounters. A final experiment revealed extremely low shelter fidelity in male P. clarkii, the most likely reason why male shelter defense against conspecific males and maternal females is not successful. These results, combined with those of past research, suggest that non-maternal females, juveniles and recently molted conspecifics are most vulnerable to predation and cannibalism, since males and maternal females easily out-compete non-maternal females for shelter, and adults out-compete juveniles. These findings may have implications for P. clarkii aquaculture and general management. 相似文献

1. The introduced North American crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus Dana, is expanding its range in Europe and locally often replaces two native crayfish species, Astacus astacus L. and Austropotamobius pallipes Lereboullet. Pacifastacus leniusculus is also expected to invade the habitat of a third native crayfish, the endangered Austropotamobius torrentium Schrank. Interspecific aggressive interactions and competition for shelter were experimentally studied in the laboratory to assess the potential impact of P. leniusculus on A. torrentium .
2. Neither species was inherently dominant in aggressive interactions, but dominance was strongly size-dependent, favouring the larger and faster growing species, P. leniusculus .

Individual competitiveness conditions access to resources when they are limited. Immature individuals that are less skilled than adults have to adapt their foraging strategies to survive. Among strategies to reduce competition, spatial segregation has been widely demonstrated. However, the use of spatial segregation by immatures to limit intra‐specific competition with adults has rarely been tested. In this study, we investigated and compared habitat preferences and distributions of free‐ranging immature and breeding adult northern gannets Morus bassanus in order to determine whether they compete for similar habitats during the year, and if this results in a spatial segregation between birds of different age groups. Based on > 66 000 km of aerial surveys conducted in the North‐East Atlantic Ocean during winter and summer 2012, habitats selected by immatures and adult birds were modelled independently, linking gannet density to a set of oceanographic and physiographic predictors. Their large‐scale seasonal distribution was then predicted. We found that gannets displayed a strong season‐dependent competition between immatures and adults, as a consequence of immatures and adults using similar habitats in both summer and winter. During summer, when adults are constrained by reproduction, both groups were spatially highly segregated despite similar habitat preferences (thermal fronts), with youngest individuals selecting habitats out of range of central‐place foragers, highlighting intra‐specific competition. Contrastingly during winter, when reproductive constraints disappear, immature and adult distributions largely overlapped. Our study provides new insights into the role played by age, foraging experience and reproductive constraints on the distribution of marine predators. More specifically, these results highlight in seabirds how the youngest fraction mitigates, through spatial segregation, the competition with experienced adults, and suggest a progressive strategy along the maturation process. 相似文献

探索种群的空间分布格局及其相互作用有助于阐释种群结构构建过程和空间分布维持机制中的潜在驱动因素, 进而为森林生态系统内不同种群的配置、经营与管理提供指导, 也为当地生态环境保护和区域资源开发提供科学依据。该研究以青海云杉(Picea crassifolia)为研究对象, 在祁连山排露沟流域设置3个面积为1 hm2的重复样地, 对样地内所有胸径≥1 cm的树木个体进行测量记录。采用成对相关函数(单变量成对相关函数g(r)和双变量成对相关函数g12(r))和标记相关函数(标记相关函数Kmm(r)、标记变异函数γm(r)和Schlather’s Im(r)函数)等点格局分析方法分析青海云杉种群的空间格局及种内相互作用。发现: (1)青海云杉种群径级分布连续, 整体呈倒“J”形结构。(2)青海云杉整体及幼树、小树呈现出小尺度上的聚集分布, 随空间尺度的增大逐渐趋于随机分布, 中树在整个观察尺度内均为随机分布模式, 大树则表现为小尺度上的均匀分布和大尺度上的随机分布。(3)青海云杉大树在小尺度范围内与其他径级个体均呈现出负关联, 在中尺度上呈现出正关联, 中树与小树、小树与幼树在小中尺度上表现为显著的正相关关系且随着空间尺度的增大逐渐转变为不相关。(4)青海云杉个体属性(胸径、树高、树冠面积)间在小中尺度上呈现出高度的相关性、强烈的抑制作用和显著的对称性竞争。 相似文献

Host individuals are often infected with more than one parasite species (parasites defined broadly, to include viruses and bacteria). Yet, research in infection biology is dominated by studies on single-parasite infections. A focus on single-parasite infections is justified if the interactions among parasites are additive, however increasing evidence points to non-additive interactions being the norm. Here we review this evidence and theoretically explore the implications of non-additive interactions between co-infecting parasites. We use classic Lotka-Volterra two-species competition equations to investigate the within-host dynamical consequences of various mixes of competition and facilitation between a pair of co-infecting species. We then consider the implications of these dynamics for the virulence (damage to host) of co-infections and consequent evolution of parasite strategies of exploitation. We find that whereas one-way facilitation poses some increased virulence risk, reciprocal facilitation presents a qualitatively distinct destabilization of within-host dynamics and the greatest risk of severe disease. 相似文献

Influence of density‐dependent competition on foraging and migratory behavior of a subtropical colonial seabird 下载免费PDF全文
Density‐dependent competition for food resources influences both foraging ecology and reproduction in a variety of animals. The relationship between colony size, local prey depletion, and reproductive output in colonial central‐place foragers has been extensively studied in seabirds; however, most studies have focused on effects of intraspecific competition during the breeding season, while little is known about whether density‐dependent resource depletion influences individual migratory behavior outside the breeding season. Using breeding colony size as a surrogate for intraspecific resource competition, we tested for effects of colony size on breeding home range, nestling health, and migratory patterns of a nearshore colonial seabird, the brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis), originating from seven breeding colonies of varying sizes in the subtropical northern Gulf of Mexico. We found evidence for density‐dependent effects on foraging behavior during the breeding season, as individual foraging areas increased linearly with the number of breeding pairs per colony. Contrary to our predictions, however, nestlings from more numerous colonies with larger foraging ranges did not experience either decreased condition or increased stress. During nonbreeding, individuals from larger colonies were more likely to migrate, and traveled longer distances, than individuals from smaller colonies, indicating that the influence of density‐dependent effects on distribution persists into the nonbreeding period. We also found significant effects of individual physical condition, particularly body size, on migratory behavior, which in combination with colony size suggesting that dominant individuals remain closer to breeding sites during winter. We conclude that density‐dependent competition may be an important driver of both the extent of foraging ranges and the degree of migration exhibited by brown pelicans. However, the effects of density‐dependent competition on breeding success and population regulation remain uncertain in this system. 相似文献

The ecosystem is a fundamental ecological concept that is not as simple as it first appears. We explore three key dimensions
of the concept that make it both complex and broadly useful—its basic definition, its application via models to concrete or
specific situations, and its metaphorical connotations as used in general communication within the domain of science and with
the public at large. Clarity in identifying what the dimensions are and how they are related can help to maintain the rigor
of the concept for specific scientific uses while also allowing enough flexibility for its use in the integration of scientific
principles, as well as in public discourse. This analysis of the ecosystem as a multidimensional concept is likely to be generalizable
to other important concepts in ecology.

Microbial consortium is a complex adaptive system with higher‐order dynamic characteristics that are not present by individual members. To accurately predict the social interactions, we formulate a set of unstructured kinetic models to quantitatively capture the dynamic interactions of multiple microbial species. By introducing an interaction coefficient, we analytically derived the steady‐state solutions for the interacting species and the substrate‐depleting profile in the chemostat. We analyzed the stability of the possible coexisting states defined by competition, parasitism, amensalism, commensalism, and cooperation. Our model predicts that only parasitism, commensalism, and cooperation could lead to stable coexisting states. We also determined the optimal social interaction criteria of microbial coculture when sequential metabolic reactions are compartmentalized into two distinct species. Coupled with Luedeking–Piret and Michaelis–Menten equations, accumulation of metabolic intermediates in one species and formation of end‐product in another species could be derived and assessed. We discovered that parasitism consortia disfavor the bioconversion of intermediate to final product; and commensalism consortia could efficiently convert metabolic intermediates to final product and maintain metabolic homeostasis with a broad range of operational conditions (i.e., dilution rates); whereas cooperative consortia leads to highly nonlinear pattern of precursor accumulation and end‐product formation. The underlying dynamics and emergent properties of microbial consortia may provide critical knowledge for us to understand ecological coexisting states, engineer efficient bioconversion process, deliver effective gut therapeutics as well as elucidate probiotic‐pathogen or tumor‐host interactions in general. 相似文献

Abstract Seabirds can influence entire island ecosystems through the effects of their burrowing and of their underground deposition of vegetation on biotic and abiotic island processes. This study quantifies the extent of these effects at three sooty shearwater breeding islands in southern New Zealand, with the aim of assessing the importance of this species as an ecosystem engineer. Mean burrow volumes ranged between 158.2 and 528.1 m3 ha–1. Between 18 and 34% of the ground surface was undermined by burrow space on the three islands. This extent of burrowing is comparable to that of fossorial mammals, widely recognised as ecosystem engineers. Mean vegetation inputs (dry weight), transported underground by birds and incorporated into nests, varied between 33 and 96 g m‐2 The implications of the biopedturbation caused by sooty shearwater burrowing to the extent measured in this study may be profound for some ecosystem processes, and certainly warrants further research. 相似文献
