High levels of dietary lipids are incorporated in feeds for most teleost fish to promote growth and reduce nitrogen waste. However, in Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis) previous studies revealed that increasing the level of dietary lipids above 8% negatively affect growth and nutrient utilization regardless of dietary protein content. It has been shown that glucose regulation and metabolism can be impaired by high dietary fat intake in mammals, but information in teleost fish is scarce. The aim of this study was to assess the possible effect of dietary lipids on glucose metabolism in Senegalese sole with special emphasis on the regulation of proteins involved in the muscle insulin-signalling pathway. Senegalese sole juveniles (29 g) were fed two isonitrogenous diets (53% dry matter) for 88 days. These two diets were one with a high lipid level (∼17%, HL) and a moderate starch content (∼14%, LC), and the other being devoid of fish oil (4% lipid, LL) and with high starch content (∼23%, HC). Surprisingly, feeding Senegalese sole the HL/LC diet resulted in prolonged hyperglycaemia, while fish fed on LL/HC diet restored basal glycaemia 2 h after feeding. The hyperglycaemic phenotype was associated with greater glucose-6-phosphatase activity (a key enzyme of hepatic glucose production) and lower citrate synthase activity in the liver, with significantly higher liver glycogen content. Sole fed on HL/LC diet also had significantly lower hexokinase activity in muscle, although hexokinase activity was low with both dietary treatments. The HL/LC diet was associated with significant reductions in muscle AKT, p70 ribosomal S6-K1 Kinase (S6K-1) and ribosomal protein S6 (S6) 2 h after feeding, suggesting down regulation of the AKT-mTOR nutrient signalling pathway in these fish. The results of this study show for the first time that high level of dietary lipids strongly affects glucose metabolism in Senegalese sole.  相似文献

Four diets for sharpsnout sea bream juveniles (14 g body weight) with four levels of air-processed pea protein concentrate (PPC) (0, 160, 320 and 487 g/kg diet) were tested in triplicate. The experimental diets were isonitrogenous (43% crude protein) and isolipidic (19% ether extract) and the fish were fed to satiation twice a day. After 125 d, fish growth was diminished by the inclusion of PPC. Feed conversion did not show significant differences in any treatment. Neither the body analyses nor the protein and individual essential amino acid retention efficiencies were affected by the inclusion of PPC in the diet. However, histological gut examinations revealed noticeable differences. Fish fed the diet with the highest inclusion level of PPC presented the longest villous length and the most goblet cells, and the width of the lamina propria increased in the anterior intestine. Although no negative changes in nutritive parameters were detected, these alterations might affect nutrient transport, with negative consequences for fish growth. It was concluded that the PPC in the amounts tested here is an inappropriate substitute for fishmeal in diets for sharpsnout sea bream juveniles.  相似文献

Twenty-four growing Assaf lambs, divided into four groups of six animals, were used to study the effect of the undegradable protein content of the post-weaning diet on feed intake, body growth and reproductive development. From week 1 to week 21, the four groups were fed ad libitum as follows: group LL was given barley straw and low protein concentrate (LP); group HH was given barley straw and high protein concentrate (HP); group LH was given barley straw and LP concentrate from week 1 to 11 (period 1) and barley straw and HP concentrate from week 12 to 21 (period 2); group HL was given barley straw and HP concentrate in period 1 and barley straw and LP concentrate in period 2. From week 22 to week 26 (period 3), all animals received the same amount of hay and LP concentrate. Barley straw intake was not significantly (P>0.05) affected by dietary treatments. In the 1st period, average concentrate intake and live body weight gain (LWG) were greater in lambs fed HP than LP supplement. In the 2nd period, concentrate intake was not significantly (P>0.05) affected by type of supplement, but LWG was greater for lambs fed HP than LP supplement. Scrotal circumference in week 11 was significantly (P<0.05) lower in lambs fed LP supplement than in lambs fed HP supplement. No significant differences (P>0.05) due to dietary treatments were observed on scrotal circumference in weeks 21 and 25. Dietary treatments had no significant (P>0.05) effect on either circulating concentration of testosterone or ejaculate characteristics. In conclusion, results from this study suggest that supplementing diets with undegradable protein enhanced performance throughout the breeding period and accelerated testis growth. Nevertheless, final testis size, pattern of circulating testosterone and sperm output were unaffected by dietary treatments.  相似文献

Nine test diets were formulated at three low levels of crude protein (P; 35%, 40% or 45%) and three high levels of crude lipid (L; 9%, 12% or 15%) to investigate whether Epinephelus moara differs in the nutrient requirements from any of the other closely‐related grouper species, and if there are any indications that a further decrease in protein with increasing dietary lipid would induce a higher protein‐sparing effect. Fish (20.34 ± 0.82 g/ind) were distributed among 27 experimental cages (100 cm diameter, 80 cm depth), with 20 fish per cage and three replicates for each test diet. The experiment was conducted over an 8‐week period at a temperature of 23.9–25.7°C. Weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) tended to increase either with an increase in dietary protein level (at the same lipid level) or with the increase in dietary lipid level (at the same protein level, except at the 45% protein level). The highest weight gain and SGR occurred in fish fed the diet P45/L12. The serum cholesterol, high‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol (HDL‐C) and low‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol (LDL‐C) contents in fish were significantly increased as the dietary lipid increased. The increase of dietary protein significantly decreased the activities of serum and hepatic alanine aminotransferase (ALT) as well as aspartate aminotransferase (AST). Hepatic fatty acid synthase (FAS) activity significantly increased with the decrease of dietary protein and lipid levels (< .05). However, lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity showed an inverse trend compared to FAS. Hepatic glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activity significantly increased with the increase in the dietary protein level. In conclusion, the results reveal that growth performance and metabolic responses of E. moara are dependent on dietary protein and lipid levels, and that protein‐sparing action can be induced by increasing the dietary lipid. To support the feeding and growth of juvenile E. moara under the present conditions, 45% protein and 12% lipid are adequate.  相似文献

Uric acid is an important antioxidant and methods to elevate its plasma concentration may be important in animal health. In a first study, the effect of dietary protein on plasma uric acid (PUA) and glucose concentrations were determined in 3-week-old chicks. Twenty-four broiler chicks were randomly assigned to four diets: a commercial control diet (C, 20% crude protein), low protein (LP) containing 10% casein, medium protein (MP) containing 20% casein or high protein (HP) containing 45% casein for a 3-week experiment. PUA concentration increased (P<0.05) in chicks fed HP diet and declined (P<0.05) in chicks fed LP while plasma glucose concentrations were lower (P<0.05) in chicks fed the LP diet at the end of the study. In a second study, PUA and leukocyte oxidative activity (LOA) were determined in broilers fed C, LP, MP or HP diets for 4 weeks. As in the first study, dietary protein directly affected PUA concentrations. In birds consuming HP diets, PUA was negatively correlated (P=0.06) with lowered LOA. These data support the view that increases in dietary protein can increase PUA concentrations, which can ameliorate oxidative stress.  相似文献

A nine‐week feeding trial was conducted to test the hypothesis that an adequate methionine diet might improve growth, feed utilization, body composition and physiology, and biochemical parameters in pre‐adult blunt snout bream Megalobrama amblycephala, whereas a methionine deficiency might have adverse effects on these parameters. Six isonitrogenous and isoenergetics semi‐purified diets (33.0% crude protein, 7.0% crude lipid) were formulated to contain graded methionine levels (0.39–1.54% of dry weight) at 0.25% increments replaced by equal proportions of glycine. Results show that the survival rate (SR) was not significantly affected by the dietary methionine level. Final weight (FW), feed efficiency ratios (FER), weight gain (WG), and specific growth rate (SGR) increased with increasing dietary methionine levels up to 1.00% and then showed a declining trend. Using quadratic regression analysis of FER and SGR, the dietary methionine requirement was estimated to be 0.74% (2.24% of dietary protein) and 0.76% of the diet (2.30% of dietary protein), respectively. Fish fed the 0.39% methionine diet showed significantly lower whole body protein content compared to those fed with 0.85, 1.00 and 1.24% methionine diets (P < 0.05). Whole body moisture, lipid, and ash contents in pre‐adult adult blunt snout bream were not significantly affected. The urea content in fish fed the 0.85% methionine diet was significantly higher than those of fish fed a 0.39, 0.56, 1.24, 1.54% methionine diet (P < 0.05), but not significantly different in fish fed the 1.00% methionine diet (P > 0.05). No significant differences were found in other indexes such as the hepatosomatic index (HSI), viscerosomatic index (VSI), condition factor (CF), albumin (ALB), total protein (TP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and spartate transaminase (AST) (P > 0.05). Most important, the optimal dietary methionine level of pre‐adult blunt snout bream should be 0.74–0.76% of the diet (2.24–2.30% of dietary protein).  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to study the effect of partial replacement of dietary monocalcium phosphate (MCP) with phytase on growth performance, feed utilization and phosphorus discharge in black sea bream, Acanthopagrus schlegelii. In the feeding trial, the control diet (designated as P1.5) was prepared with 1.5% MCP but without phytase, and the three other diets (designated as PP1.0, PP0.5 and PP0, respectively) were supplemented with 1.0%, 0.5% and 0% MCP, respectively, along with 200 mg (400 U) phytase/kg diet in each. Each diet was tested in triplicate tanks and fish were fed twice daily to satiation. After an 8‐week feeding trial in indoor flow‐through cylindrical fibreglass tanks (25 fish per tank, initial body weight: 11.5 ± 0.12 g), fish fed with PP1.0 and PP0.5 had no significant change in weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR), protein efficiency rate (PER) or feed conversion ratio (FCR) compared to the control (p > .05), whereas fish fed with PP0 showed a significantly lower growth performance in the above parameters (p < .05). The addition of phytase did not affect the body composition or muscle composition. The apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of crude protein and phosphorus increased when fish were fed diets in which MCP was replaced by phytase. Phosphorus discharge was also significantly reduced in fish fed diets in which MCP was replaced by phytase (10.2 ± 0.50 to 8.01 ± 0.47 g/kg weight gain). The present study suggests that dietary MCP can be reduced when phytase is added to the black sea bream diet, with a maximum MCP reduction level of up to 1% when phytase is supplemented at 200 mg (400 U)/kg diet. Thus, phytase in the diet of black sea bream is economically and ecologically beneficial.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of elevated dietary levels of vitamin E (α‐tocopherol) on growth performance, proximate composition and fatty acid profiles of juvenile silver pomfret, Pampus argenteus. Three semi‐purified experimental diets were formulated to contain 49% protein and 16% lipid. High docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) tuna oil was added to the diets to supplement DHA. A graded level of vitamin E (0‐, 50‐, and 100 mg kg?1) was added to experimental diets 1 to 3, respectively. Analyzed vit. E levels were 155.2, 195.3 and 236.4 mg kg?1 in diets 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The experiment was conducted for 12 weeks with juvenile silver pomfret (29.6 ± 7.6 g) using a flow‐through system consisting of nine 1‐m3 tanks. Each treatment had three replicates and fish were stocked at the rate of 20 m?3. Growth performance and feed utilization parameters of fish fed diets 2 and 3 were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than in fish fed diet 1, but the parameters in diets 2 and 3 did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). Although whole body protein levels were not influenced by the dietary vit. E levels, whole body lipid in fish fed diet 2 was significantly higher than in fish fed the other diets. The whole body vit. E levels in fish fed diet 2 (22.6 mg kg?1) and diet 3 (24.1 mg kg?1) were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than in those fed diet 1 (18.2 mg kg?1). Whole body total saturated fatty acids were significantly lower, and DHA levels higher in fish fed diets 2 and 3 than those fed diet 1. The results of the present study suggest that increasing dietary supplementation of vit. E in high lipid diets enhances the growth performance of fish and that a dietary level of 196 mg kg?1 vit. E is suitable for the growth of silver pomfret.  相似文献

In order to evaluate the protein and energy requirement of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) sub‐yearlings, eight experimental diets containing two protein levels (40% and 45%) and four lipid levels (10%, 15%, 20% and 25%) were tested. Sturgeons (W0 = 136.8 g) were fed the experimental diets to satiation four times daily for 150 days, resulting in a final mean weight of 375.8 g. Growth was significantly affected by lipid content of the diets. At 40% protein level, weight gain and specific growth rate (% per day) were significantly improved (P < 0.05) by increasing the dietary lipid (energy) content. Protein efficiency ratio (PER) was significantly affected by different dietary treatments for each dietary protein level tested, reaching a mean value of 3.58 in fish fed high lipid diets and a PER of 2.77 in low lipid diets. Results obtained in the present study suggest that the optimum dietary protein content for Persian sturgeon is 40%, with an estimated optimum protein‐to‐energy ratio of 18–20 mg kJ−1.  相似文献

The effects of feeding condition and dietary lipid level on lipoprotein lipase (LPL) gene expression in the liver and visceral adipose tissue of red sea bream Pagrus major were investigated by competitive polymerase chain reaction. Not only visceral adipose tissue but also liver of red sea bream showed substantial LPL gene expression. In the liver, starvation (at 48 h post-feeding) drastically stimulated LPL gene expression in the fish-fed low lipid diet, but had no effect in the fish fed high lipid diet. Dietary lipid level did not significantly affect the liver LPL mRNA level under fed condition (at 5 h post-feeding). In the visceral adipose tissue, LPL mRNA number per tissue weight was significantly higher in the fed condition than in the starved condition, irrespective of the dietary lipid levels. Dietary lipid levels did not affect the visceral adipose tissue LPL mRNA levels under fed or starved conditions. Our results demonstrate that both feeding conditions and dietary lipid levels alter the liver LPL mRNA levels, while only the feeding conditions but not dietary lipid levels cause changes in the visceral adipose LPL mRNA level. It was concluded that the liver and visceral adipose LPL gene expression of red sea bream seems to be regulated in a tissue-specific fashion by the nutritional state.  相似文献

Either high protein, low carbohydrate (HP) or low protein, high carbohydrate (LP) diets were fed for 6 weeks to rabbits with or without resection of the distal half of the small intestine. Control and resected rabbits fed HP consumed more food and gained more weight than the animals fed LP. The level of dietary protein has a different effect on intestinal transport in animals with an ileal resection than in those with an intact small intestine. With 0.5 mM glucose, the in vitro uptake in control rabbits was greater for the LP than HP diet but was unchanged in resected rabbits; uptake of 0.5 mM galactose and 3-O-methyl glucose was unaffected by HP and LP, whereas in rabbit uptake was lower in LP than HP. The uptake of 40 mM glucose was greater with the LP than HP diet in control rabbits, but lower with LP than HP in resected rabbits. In control rabbits, the uptake of aluric acid was lower on the LP than HP diet; the uptake of octanoic acid, decanoic acid, and cholesterol was unchanged; and the uptake of each fatty acid and cholesterol was greater in resected rabbits fed LP than HP. Feeding a low protein diet to animals with an ileal resection is associated with lower jejunal uptake of high concentrations of glucose, but the higher uptake of galactose and enhanced permeability to fatty acids result in superior weight gain. Thus, recommendations for alterations in dietary protein and carbohydrate levels following ileal resection must be made with the knowledge that these changes may influence intestinal transport function as well as body weight gain.  相似文献

A 10‐week feeding trial was conducted to determine the dietary protein requirement of juvenile triangular bream (Megalobrama terminalis). Five semi‐purified diets (white fishmeal as a protein source) were formulated with five crude protein (CP) levels (26.30%, 32.94%, 38.33%, 44.18% and 50.09%; diets P1–P5). Each diet was fed to triplicate groups (20 per fish replicate, initially weighing 1.30 ± 0.02 g). The following parameters were measured to evaluate the effects of different CP levels: weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR), feed efficiency (FE), protein efficiency ratio (PER), daily feed intake (DFI), viscerosomatic index (VSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI), intraperitoneal fat ratio (IPF), lipid retention (LR), liver glycogen content and plasma triglyceride level. The results of the feeding trial showed that WG, SGR and FE were significantly enhanced by an increasing dietary protein level of up to 44.18%, but there were no significant differences in protein levels from 44.18% to 50.09%. The PER and DFI showed a decreasing trend with increasing dietary CP levels. The VSI and HSI were not significantly affected by the different treatments, whereas the IPF increased significantly with decreasing CP levels. The highest LR value, liver glycogen value and triglyceride level in plasma were observed in fish fed the lowest CP diet (P1). Based on the WG and FE, this study suggests an optimum dietary protein level for M. terminalis of 44.18%.  相似文献

Two separate experiments were conducted to determine the dietary requirements of juvenile Asian sea bass Lates calcarifer Bloch for lysine and arginine. Fish (average initial weight: lysine experiment, 13.12 ± 0.12 g; arginine experiment, 2.56 ± 0.13 g) were given amino acid test diets for 12 weeks containing fish meal, zein, squid meal, and crystalline amino acids. Each set of isonitrogenous and isocaloric test diets contained graded levels of L ‐lysine or L ‐arginine. The feeding rate in the lysine experiment was at 4–2.5% of the body weight day?1, while in the arginine experiment it was at 10–4% of the body weight day?1. The fish (20 per tank, lysine experiment; 15 per tank, arginine experiment) were reared in 500‐L fibreglass tanks with continuous flowthrough sea water at 27 °C and salinity of 31 ppt in the lysine experiment and at 29 °C and salinity of 29 ppt in the arginine experiment. The experiments were in a completely randomized design with two replicates per treatment. Survival was high in fish given adequate lysine or arginine. Mean percentage weight gains were significantly different in fish fed varying levels of lysine or arginine. Fish fed high levels of L ‐arginine suffered high mortalities. No significant differences were obtained in the feed efficiency ratios (FER, g gain g?1 feed) of fish fed graded lysine, although the values tended to increase as the dietary lysine level was increased up to the requirement level. In contrast, in the arginine experiment, significant differences in FER of fish among treatments were obtained; the highest FER was observed in fish fed the diet containing an optimum arginine level. On the basis of the growth response, survival, and FER, the lysine and arginine requirements of juvenile Asian sea bass were estimated to be 20.6 g kg?1 dry diet (4.5% protein) and 18.2 g kg?1 dry diet (3.8% protein), respectively. These data will be useful in the further refinement of practical diet formulations for the Asian sea bass.  相似文献

Four groups of juvenile Megalobrama amblycephala were fed three times daily with six semi-purified diets containing 3.39 (PA unsupplied diet), 10.54, 19.28, 31.04, 48.38 and 59.72 mg kg-1 calcium D-pantothenate. The results showed that survival rate, final weight, specific growth rate, protein efficiency ratio and nitrogen retention efficiency all increased significantly (P<0.01) as dietary PA levels increased from 3.39 to 19.28 mg kg-1, whereas the opposite was true for feed conversion ratio. Whole-body crude protein increased as dietary PA levels increased, while the opposite pattern was found for the crude lipid content. Intestinal α-amylase, lipase, protease, Na+-K+-ATPase, alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl transferase activities were all elevated in fish fed PA-supplemented diets. Hepatic catalase activities improved with increases in dietary PA, while the opposite was true for malondialdehyde contents. The liver PA concentration and coenzyme A content rose significantly (P<0.01), up to 31.04 mg kg-1, with increasing dietary PA levels and then plateaued. The percentage of hepatic saturated fatty acids increased significantly (P<0.01) as dietary PA levels increased, while the percentages of monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) decreased as dietary PA increased. Fish fed diets containing 19.28 and 31.04 mg kg-1 PA exhibited higher (P<0.01) docosahexaenoic acid and PUFA percentages in muscle than those fed with other diets. The expression of the gene encoding pantothenate kinase was significantly up-regulated (P<0.01) in fish fed PA-supplemented diets. Hepatic Acetyl-CoA carboxylase α, fatty acid synthetase, stearoyl regulatory element-binding protein 1 and X receptor α genes all increased significantly (P<0.01) as dietary PA levels increased from 3.39 to 31.04 mg kg-1. Based on broken-line regression analyses of weight gain, liver CoA concentrations and PA contents against dietary PA levels, the optimal dietary PA requirements of juvenile blunt snout bream were estimated to be 24.08 mg kg-1.  相似文献

We evaluated the effect of dietary starch level on growth performance, feed utilization, whole-body composition and activity of selected key enzymes of intermediary metabolism in gilthead sea bream juveniles reared at 18 and 25 degrees C. A diet was formulated to contain 48% crude protein, 12% lipids and 30% gelatinized maize starch (diet 30GS). Two other diets were formulated to include the same level of ingredients as diet 30GS except for the gelatinized starch, which was included at 20% (diet 20GS) or 10% (diet 10GS). No adjustment to diet composition was otherwise made. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of gilthead sea bream (30 g initial mass) for 8 weeks, on a pair-feeding scheme. The higher temperature improved growth performance but the opposite was true for feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio. Independently of temperature, growth performance, feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio were lower in fish fed diet 30GS. No effect of temperature or dietary starch level on whole-body composition was noticed. Hepatosomatic index and liver glycogen were higher at 18 degrees C and, within each temperature, in fish fed diet 30GS. Glycemia was not affected by temperature, but was lower in fish fed diet 10GS. Data on enzyme activities showed that increasing water temperature enhances liver glucokinase (GK) and pyruvate kinase (PK) activities, suggesting that gilthead sea bream is more apt to use dietary starch at higher temperatures. No effect of temperature was noticed on hexokinase (HK), fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBPase), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activities. Dietary starch enhanced PK and FBPase activities while depressed GDH activity, suggesting a lack of significant regulation of hepatic glucose utilization and production in this species. HK, GK and G6PD activities were unaffected by dietary composition. Irrespectively of water temperature, gelatinized starch may be included up to 20% in diets for gilthead sea bream juveniles; at higher dietary levels, growth and efficiency of feed utilization are depressed.  相似文献

In order to assess the influence of dietary protein levels on the fluoride (F) bioavailability, 30 crossbred calves (6-8 months; approximately 104 kg BW) initially exposed to different dietary protein levels were allotted into six groups in a 3?×?2 factorial design. The factors included three different levels of protein viz. normal (100%; NP), low (75%; LP), and high (125%; HP) as per Kearl recommendations besides two levels of supplemental fluorine (as sodium fluoride) at 0 or 200 mg/kg diet. The animals were fed on the respective concentrate mixture and wheat straw for 210 days. A metabolism trial was conducted at 200 days post-feeding to study digestibility, plane of nutrition, and nutrient balances. The final body weight at the end of 210 days was lower (p?<?0.01) in animals fed 200 mg/kg F (164.2?±?8.92 kg) compared to those fed no F (200.7?±?8.05 kg). Calves on LP diets attained lower (p?<?0.05) average daily gain in comparison to NP or HP fed calves. The F-supplemented calves exhibited lower (p?<?0.01) voluntary feed intake than their non-supplemented control. The digestibility of proximate nutrients other than ether extract exhibited higher (p?<?0.01) values in F-fed calves attributable chiefly to reduced consumption of dry matter. The calves fed extra F retained lower mean daily nitrogen; calcium, and phosphorus compared to the calves fed no F. The mean daily intake, excretion, and retention of F were higher (p?<?0.01) in the F-supplemented calves. A significant (p?<?0.01) interaction between protein levels and F was evident in the urinary excretion of F; calves on LP diet exhibiting lower urinary excretion. Consequently, the bioavailability of F tended to be higher on LP than NP or HP diets. From the results, it is concluded that protein levels in the diet do not impart significant influence on susceptibility to fluorosis in crossbred calves. However, the bioavailability of F tended to increase on diets low in protein.

Complete energy budgets were constructed for 19 grass carp, Ctenupharyngudon idella (Val.), held individually in a respirometer for a month. The fish were fed one of four diets or starved. Diets varying in the proportions of protein, lipid and carbohydrate were described as high protein (HP), high carbohydrate (HC) or high lipid (HL). A fourth diet (LM) was made from dried duckweed, Lemna spp., to provide a more natural diet. Fish were fed and faeces collected daily and oxygen consumption was measured continuously over the month that each experiment lasted. Excretion of ammonia and urea was measured on several days. The total energy lost via nitrogenous waste was calculated using an average daily ammonia quotient (AQ).
For growing fish between 50 and 61% of consumed energy was lost via respiration. Energetic losses via nitrogenous wastes were highest on the HP diet (4.7%) and lowest on the HC diet (3.1%). Faecal loss washigheston the HL diet (19.4%)and lowest on the HP diet (10.2%). Over a month of starvation, 32.5% of energy requirement was met by the respiration of protein and 3.2% of the total energy lost was via nitrogenous waste. Fish fed zero or sub-maintenance rations tended to respire lipid in preference to protein whereas fish fed super-maintenance rations accumulated lipid. Protein retention was proportionally highest on HP (48% of total energy retained as growth) and lowest on HC (32%) and HL (30%). This reflected the accumulation of lipid on both the high carbohydrate and high lipid diets. The partitioning of metabolizable energy (ME) was investigated and 0.45 (HL), 0.59 (HP) and 0-67 (HC) kJ ME.kJ-1 retained were lost via respiration.  相似文献

A factorial experiment was designed to examine the effect on compensatory growth (CG) of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus fed diets containing different protein and lipid levels under normal and temporally restricted feeding regimes. Four diets were formulated to contain either 30% or 36% crude protein, and 5% or 11% crude lipid. Triplicate replicates of each treatment were assigned to 24 150‐L tanks (20 fish/tank density). Fish (mean initial weight ± SD = 8.79 ± 0.34 g) were then fed either the normal feeding regime (thrice daily to apparent satiation) or the restricted regime (1 day feed deprivation followed by 3 days of feeding to apparent satiation) over a 44‐days study period. Fish receiving a diet under the restricted regime achieved weight gains (WG) comparable to fish consuming the diet containing 30% protein and 5% lipids under the normal feeding regime. Fish maintained on the restricted feeding regime exhibited reduced feed intake (FI), WG, feed efficiency ratio (FE), protein efficiency rate (PER) and hepatosomatic index versus fish on the normal feeding regime, except WG in fish fed the diet with 30% protein and 5% lipids. However, the resultant FI (85%~94%) was higher than the excepted 75% intake when fish were subjected to the restricted regime. Feeding 11% lipid diets led to improved FI, WG, FE, and PER compared to feeding the 5% lipid diets. Increased FI, WG, and FE, but reduced PER were observed in fish fed with 36% protein versus fish fed 30% protein. Fish receiving the 36% protein diets had lower whole‐body moisture and ash contents, but elevated whole‐body protein and lipid contents compared to those receiving the 30% protein diets. Whole‐body moisture contents were lower, but whole‐body protein, lipid and ash contents were higher in fish fed 11% lipid diets than in fish fed 5% lipid diets. There was an increase in whole‐body moisture content, but a decrease in protein and lipid content in response to the restricted feeding regime. Ash content was not affected by the feeding regime. The present study shows that Nile tilapia fed diets subjected to a restricted feeding regime exhibited growth comparable to those fed the diet at 30% protein and 5% lipid levels under a normal feeding regime. This positive effect was more pronounced in diets at a high protein level or in a combination of high protein and lipid levels.  相似文献
