The effects of a decomposing cyanobacteria bloom on water quality and the accumulation of microcystin-LR equivalent toxin in fish at Loskop Dam were studied in May 2012. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay [ELISA] was used to confirm the presence of microcystin-LR equivalent in the water and to determine the microcystin (MCYST) concentration in the liver and muscle of fish. The lowest concentration of extracellular MCYST-LR equivalent was recorded in the lacustrine zone, where no cyanobacterial cells were observed, while the highest concentration (3.25 µg l?1), 3.25 higher than World Health Organization standard, was observed in the riverine zone. Extremely high MCYST-LR equivalent concentrations of 1.72 µg MCYST-LReq kg?1 in the liver and 0.19 µg kg?1 in muscles of Labeo rosae, and 2.14 µg MCYST-LReq kg?1 in the liver and 0.17 µg kg?1 in muscles of Oreochromis mossambicus, indicate that the consumption of sufficient fish biomass might cause severe adverse effects in humans. Microscopic analyses of the stomach content of both fish species revealed low numbers of cyanobacterial Microcystis aeruginosa cells in comparison to other phytoplankton. The extracellular MCYST-LR equivalent of the decomposing bloom may have played a major role in the high levels observed in the livers of the two fish species. These findings are important for all downstream water users.  相似文献

The concentrations of Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and V in water, sediment and the gill, liver and muscle tissues of Synodontis resupinatus, Heterotis niloticus and Clarias gariepinus, all commercially important fish species of the lower Niger River, were investigated in 2015. Water, sediment and fish samples were collected for six months and heavy metals were determined using an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. Fe ranked highest in water and sediment, with concentrations of 2.74 mg l?1 and 61.60 mg kg?1, respectively. Metals followed the magnitude of Fe > Mn > Ni > V > Pb in the water and Fe > Mn > V > Ni > Pb in the sediments. Metal concentrations were higher in the tissues of S. resupinatus compared with H. niloticus and C. gariepinus. Fe was also highest in the gills, liver and muscle of the three fish species. Its highest concentration of 132.97 mg kg?1 dry weight was recorded in the gills of S. resupinatus. Bioconcentration factors of metals ranged from 8.79 for Mn in H. niloticus muscle to 67.99 for Ni in S. resupinatus gills. The fish species studied pose no health risk for all metals studied, because the target hazard quotient was less than 1 and the estimated daily intakes of the metals were below the reference doses.  相似文献

Abstract

Mature starfish Leptasterias polaris were exposed to labelled mercury (II) species via food contaminated at a level of 5.0 μg g?1. The distribution of inorganic Hg and methylmercury (MeHg) in starfish organs and tissues and the effect of a series of complexing agents on mercury translocation between organs and tissues were examined over a 24-h period. The distribution of mercury species in coelomic fluid components, ammonia excretion rate and mercury excretion were also measured. The highest concentrations were observed in the stomach (the source organ) and in pyloric caecum (up to 0.32 μg g?1 wet weight for inorganic Hg and 0.22 μg g?1 for MeHg). Concentrations of MeHg in gonads ranged from ≤ 0.01 to 0.08 μg g?1 whereas concentrations of inorganic Hg never exceeded 0.06 μg g?1. In all studied cases, mercury concentration was very low the coelomic fluid (≤ 0.01 μg g?1). The short-term distribution of Hg species via contaminated food in starfish L. polaris seems to be controlled by the haemal system, a primitive circulatory system responsible for the transport of soluble nutrients from the digestive track towards organs and tissues, but a possible role of the coelomic fluid can not be excluded. Very low Hg contents were observed in gonads and in the coelomic fluid which fills the general cavity. Except for mercaptoethanol (merOH) and dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA), the addition of complexing agents to the food had little effect on the distribution of Hg species. MerOH appeared as an efficient carrier for methylmercury transport through the digestive system. DMSA enhanced the translocation of inorganic mercury from stomach and pyloric caecum toward external tissues and markedly increased its excretion.  相似文献

During summer 2011, samples of sediment, macrophytes, and fish tissues from the shallow, slightly alkaline Lake Neusiedl, Austria, were evaluated for their total Hg content. This is the first report of Hg levels from this lake. Sediments displayed Hg contents between 0.025 and 0.113 μg g?1 dw (dry weight), significantly correlating with the proportion of organic components pointing to a small anthropogenic impact on the lake's Hg content. Hg Levels in plants and fish were unexpectedly high: both investigated submerged plant species, Potamogeton pectinatus and Myriophyllum spicatum, showed mean values of 0.245±0.152 and 0.298±0.115 μg g?1 dw, respectively. Biomagnification was evident when comparing muscle samples of the planktivorous fish species rudd Scardinus erythrophthalmus (n=10, mean=0.084 μg g?1 ww (wet weight)) with the piscivorous perch Perca fluviatilis (n=21, mean=0.184 μg g?1 ww) or pike‐perch Sander lucioperca (n=9, mean=0.205 μg g?1 ww). Significantly lower values were found in the muscle of the piscivorous pike Esox lucius (n=25, mean=0.135 μg g?1 ww), pointing to a specific Hg metabolism of this fish, presumably under the particular physicochemical properties of the lake. Hg Concentrations in fish could pose a risk to piscivorous birds in this protected wetland system.  相似文献

The aim of the investigations was the determination of the Cu contents in the liver, kidneys and skeletal muscles of canine females. Material for research was collected post mortem from 45 animals aged 1 to 18 years coming from the Warsaw area. The effect of the health state, age and life conditions on the distribution of copper in the investigated organs was estimated. That element was determined using the method of inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). In the liver, the average Cu contents amounted to 24.04 mg kg−1 wet weight, in kidneys to 2.90 mg kg−1 wet weight and in muscles to 0.94 mg kg−1 wet weight. The highest values of copper content in particular tissues and organs were noted in the group of animals with neoplastic changes. In respect to the animal age the highest mean values of the copper content were noted in the oldest animals. They amounted to 30.97 mg kg−1 in the liver, 3.34 mg kg−1 in kidneys and 1.18 mg kg−1 wet weight in muscles. Considering life conditions of the dogs it was observed that the higher mean values in all the investigated organs occurred in dogs coming from the urban areas.  相似文献

Abstract

The capacity of Elodea canadensis to phytofiltrate arsenic species from water was evaluated. Plants were adapted to tap water and supplemented with 15 and 250?µg L?1 of As. Inorganic arsenic species (As III, As V), and organic arsenic compounds: monomethylarsonate (MMA) and dimethylarsinate (DMA) were analyzed. Sampling was carried out at different times after exposure in culture water and plant organs. Plants exposed to 15?µg L?1 of As concentration showed no significant difference on As concentration (95% confidence level) in their organs compared to controls. When plants were exposed to 250?µg L?1 of As concentration, a significant increase of As concentration in plant organs was observed. After 1?h exposure, plants reduce 63.16% the As concentration in the culture water, with a bioaccumulation factor (BF) of 4.3. Under these conditions, E. canadensis accumulate As V in roots and do not translocate it to stems (transfer factor <1). MMA was determined in stems and leaves. E. canadensis effectively phytofiltrate As from tap water of a city located in an arsenic endemic area from concentrations of 36?µg L?1 to undetectable levels (10?ng L?1).  相似文献

Exposure to inorganic arsenic (InAs) through drinking water, even at low to moderate concentrations, is a global public health problem. The objectives of this study were to estimate the risk ratio (HQ), cancer risk (R), and DNA damage (comet assay) of children from three indigenous Yaqui populations located in southern Sonora, Mexico, who were exposed to InAs through drinking water. A cross-sectional study was employed, and analysis of InAs in water and urine was performed via HPLC/ICP-MS. InAs levels in drinking water from Pótam, Vícam, and Cócorit were 108.2, 36.0, and 6.2 μg/L?1 respectively. Children from Pótam had arsenic concentrations in urine of 107.1 μg As L?1 compared with 40.3 μg As L?1 for the children of Cócorit. The HQ values for the children of Pótam, Vícam, and Cócorit were 16.64, 6.02, and 0.94, while the R values were 9.4E-04, 3.5E-04, and 5.7E-05, respectively. Children with the highest arsenic exposure had significantly increased DNA damage (OTM = 14.4 vs. 4.3) [p < 0.0005] which positively correlated with urinary arsenic levels (r = 0.56, p < 0.0001). In conclusion, children of Pótam and Vícam are at significant risk of developing chronic diseases and cancers associated with chronic exposure to this metalloid.  相似文献

Evans, S.W. & Bouwman, H. 2000. The geographic variation and potential risk of DDT in the blood of Pied Kingfishers from northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Ostrich 71 (1 & 2): 351–354.

DDT has, since 1946 been used in the intradomicilliary control of malaria in northern KwaZulu-Natal. The Pied Kingfisher was selected as representative for organisms in relatively high trophic levels. Blood was obtained from Pied Kingfishers at Kosi Bay (n = 5), Pongolo Floodplain (n = 13), Mkuzi Nature Reserve (n = 4), Ndumu Nature Reserve (n = 4) and St Lucia (n = 3), extracted and analysed [SWEl] via gas chromatography. The highest blood DDE and σDDT concentrations were obtained for the birds from the Pongolo Floodplain (means of 95.92 μg 1?1/107.01 μg μg 1?1) and Kosi Bay Nature Reserve (means of 189.09 μg 1?l/241.8 μg 1?1). DDT was detected in the blood of Pied Kingfishers from Kosi Bay (mean 47.14 μg 1?1) and Pongolo Floodplain (mean 44.34 pg 1?1) only. This indicated their proximity to DDT application and the greater influx of DDT and its metabolites into the water component of these systems. The EDDT plasma concentrations in the Pied Kingfisher blood were calculated by multiplying the blood values of σDDT by 1.8. Using the regression, log10Y = 0.7785 + 0.8593 (log10X), relating the σDDT in eggs to σDDT in plasma of American Kestrel Falco sparverius it was possible to calculate the mean Pied Kingfisher egg σDDT concentration. The approximate mean Pied Kingfisher egg concentration of σDDT was calculated at 2.26 mg kg?1 for Kosi Bay and 1.24 mg kg?1 for the Pongolo Floodplain. Using the highest calculated plasma value of σDDT for Kosi Bay and the Pongolo Floodplain indicated that egg σDDT concentrations could be as high as 4.01 mg kg?1 and 4.17 mg kg?1 respectively. These calculated levels may be significant when compared to levels of DDE, known to have a detrimental effect, in the eggs of the Brown Pelican Pelecanus occidentalis, where a concentration of 2.5 to 3 mg kg?1 was associated with substantially impaired reproductive success. The highest calculated egg concentration was nearing this level and it is therefore possible that the Pied Kingfisher population may be at risk.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (standard addition method) was used to determine the total arsenic in wild-growing mushrooms after digestion with nitric acid, then with perchloric acid and in associated soils after digestion with mixtures of nitric and hydrofluoric acids in a microwave system. Among 83 species of mushrooms the highest concentrations of arsenic on a dry mass basis were found in Laccaria amethystea (26–125 mg kg?1), Laccaria laccata (11–33 mg kg?1), Thelephora terrestris (38 mg kg?1), Boletus cavipes (11.6 mg kg?1) and Ramaria botrytis (10 mg kg?1). Mushroom caps of L. laccata, L. amethystea, and B. cavipes had approximately double the arsenic concentrations found in stems. The arsenic concentrations in caps of L. amethystea and L. laccata were directly proportional to the concentrations in the soils. The concentrations of arsenic in the soils were in the range 6.5–65 mg kg?1. Among the 19 mushroom caps with arsenic concentrations above the method detection limit of 0.2 mg As/kg dry mass, only L. amethystea and L. laccata had arsenic concentration ratios ‘cap/soil’ higher than 1 (between 1.1 and 1.9). Thelephora terrestris had a ratio of 2.37.  相似文献

ObjectiveWe address two questions relevant to infants’ exposure to potentially toxic arsenolipids, namely, are the arsenolipids naturally present in fish transported intact to a mother’s milk, and what is the efficiency of this transport.MethodsWe investigated the transport of arsenolipids and other arsenic species present in fish to mother’s milk by analyzing the milk of a single nursing mother at 15 sampling times over a 3-day period after she had consumed a meal of salmon. Total arsenic values were obtained by elemental mass spectrometry, and arsenic species were measured by HPLC coupled to both elemental and molecular mass spectrometry.ResultsTotal arsenic increased from background levels (0.1 μg As kg−1) to a peak value of 1.72 μg As kg−1 eight hours after the fish meal. The pattern for arsenolipids was similar to that of total arsenic, increasing from undetectable background levels (< 0.01 μg As kg−1) to a peak after eight hours of 0.45 μg As kg−1. Most of the remaining total arsenic in the milk was accounted for by arsenobetaine. The major arsenolipids in the salmon were arsenic hydrocarbons (AsHCs; 55 % of total arsenolipids), and these compounds were also the dominant arsenolipids in the milk where they contributed over 90 % of the total arsenolipids.ConclusionsOur study has shown that ca 2–3 % of arsenic hydrocarbons, natural constituents of fish, can be directly transferred unchanged to the milk of a nursing mother. In view of the potential neurotoxicity of AsHCs, the effects of these compounds on the brain developmental stage of infants need to be investigated.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a dietary Allium sativum (garlic) addition on growth, parasite infestation and blood parameters in Colossoma macropomum (tambaqui) using 12 net‐cages (1 m3). There were four treatments with three replicates each (15 fish per replicate). Tambaqui of 112.4 g mean weight were fed for 45 days with diets containing 0, 15, 30 and 45 g of fresh garlic kg?1 feed. Garlic did not affect the tambaqui survival, growth, feed conversion, body condition, plasma glucose levels, total plasma protein levels or red blood cells. Total leukocyte and lymphocyte numbers decreased in fish fed diets containing 45 g garlic kg?1 feed, but neutrophils decreased in fish fed diets containing 15, 30 and 45 g garlic kg?1 diet, while the number of immature leukocytes increased in fish fed 30 g and 45 g garlic kg?1diet. Gills in fish fed 30 and 45 g kg?1 diet had lower infestation (52% and 63%, respectively) of Anacanthorus spathulatus (Monogenea) compared to controls. The application of garlic in diets improved the response of leukocytes and enhanced the resistance to infections by monogeneans.  相似文献

Four kinds of soil material were used in a pot experiment with velvetgrass (Holcus lanatus). Two unpolluted soils: sand (S) and loam (L) were spiked with sodium arsenite (As III) and arsenate (As V), to obtain total arsenic (As) concentrations of 500 mg As kg?1. Two other soils (ZS I, ZS III), containing 3320 and 5350 mg As kg?1, were collected from Zloty Stok where gold and arsenic ores were mined and processed for several centuries. The effects of phosphate addition on plants growth and As uptake were investigated. Phosphate was applied to soils in the form of NH4H2PO4 at the rate 0.2 g P/kg. Average concentrations of arsenic in the shoots of velvetgrass grown in spiked soils S and L without P amendment were in the range 18–210 mg As kg?1 d.wt., whereas those in plants grown on ZS I and ZS II soils were considerably lower, and varied in the range 11–52 mg As kg?1 d.wt. The addition of phosphate caused a significant increase in plant biomass and therefore the total amounts of As taken up by plants, however, the differences in As concentrations in the shoots of velvetgrass amended and non-amended with phosphate were not statistically significant.  相似文献

The concentrations of the 16 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in urban street dust with a view to understanding the potential risk to urban residents exposed to street dust, sources, and distribution of the PAHs. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry was used to measure the concentrations of the PAHs after ultra-sonication with hexane/dichloromethane and clean up. The total concentrations of the ?16 PAHs in the urban street dust from Warri and its environs ranged from 165.1 to 1012 µg kg?1. The isomeric ratios and the PCA indicated that combustion of petroleum and biomass are the major sources of PAHs in Warri and its environs. The total BaP carcinogenic and mutagenic potency concentrations (?BaPTEQ and ?BaPMEQ) were in the range of 0.03 to 219 µg kg?1 and 0.52 to 182 µg kg?1, respectively. The incremental life cancer risk from exposure of the residents of Warri and its environs ranged from 4.07 × 10?7 to 3.11 × 10?3 and 2.13 × 10?7 to 1.49 × 10?3 for the children and adults, respectively, which were higher than the baseline value of acceptable risk of 10?6 (i.e., one case per million people).  相似文献

The present study was aimed at assessing drinking water quality regarding arsenic (As) and its impact on health from Mailsi (Punjab), Pakistan. Forty-four groundwater samples were collected from two sites, Sargana and Mailsi. Arsenic and other cations were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometer, whereas the anions were determined either through titration or spectrophotometer. The results revealed that dominant anions were HCO3? and Cl?, Ca+2 was the dominant cation, and overall water chemistry of the area was CaMgHCO3? type. Arsenic concentrations were high, ranging from 11 to 828 µg/L that crossed the World Health Organization permissible limits. Likewise, higher SO4?2 concentrations ranging from 247 to 1053 mg/L were observed. The health risk index was higher in the Sargana site, which employed the differences in terms of higher Average Daily Dose, Hazard Quotient, and Carcinogenic Risk of arsenic, which is unsuitable for drinking purposes. The area seems to be at high risk due to arsenic pollution and wells have never been tested for arsenic concentrations earlier; therefore, necessary measures should be taken to test the wells with respect to arsenic.  相似文献

1. The effect of benthivorous bream and carp on sediment resuspension and the concentrations of nutrients and chlorophyll a were studied in sixteen experimental ponds (mean depth 1m, mean area 0.1 ha, sandy clay/clay sediment), stocked with bream or carp at densities varying from 0 to 500 kg ha?1. Planktivorous perch (Perca fluviatilis L.) were added to some ponds to suppress zooplankton. 2. Suspended sediment concentrations increased linearly with biomass of benthivorous fish. Bream caused an increase of 46 g sediment m?2 day?1 per 100kg bream ha?1 and a reduction of 0.38m?1 in reciprocal Secchi disc depth, corresponding to an increase in the extinction coefficient of 0.34m?1. 3. No relationship was found between size of fish and amount of resuspension, but the effect of bream was twice as great as that of carp. Benthivorous feeding was reduced in May because alternative food (zooplankton) was available. 4. Assuming a linear relationship, chlorophyll a level increased by 9.0 μgI?1, total P by 0.03mgl?1 and Kjeldahl-N by 0.48mgl?1 per 100kg bream ha?1. Silicate, chlorophyll a, total P and total N were all positively correlated with fish biomass, but orthophosphate showed no correlation.  相似文献

Field survey, hydroponic culture, and pot experiments were carried out to examine and characterize cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) uptake and accumulation by Sedum jinianum, a plant species native to China. Shoot Cd and Zn concentrations in S. jinianum growing on a lead/Zn mine area reached 103–478 and 4165–8349 mg kg?1 (DM), respectively. The shoot Cd concentration increased with the increasing Cd supply, peaking at 5083 mg kg?1 (DM) when grown in nutrient at a concentration of 100 μmol L?1 for 32 d, and decreased as the solution concentration increased from 200 to 400 μmol L?1. The shoot-to-root ratio of plant Cd concentrations was > 1 when grown in solution Cd concentrations ≤ 200 μmol L?1. Foliar, stem, and root Zn concentrations increased linearly with the increasing Zn level from 1 to 9600 μmol L?1. The Zn concentrations in various plant parts decreased in the order roots > stem > leaves, with maximum concentrations of 19.3, 33.8, and 46.1 g kg?1 (DM), respectively, when plants were grown at 9600 μmol Zn L?1 for 32 d. Shoot Cd concentrations reached 16.4 and 79.8 mg kg?1 (DM) when plants were grown in the pots of soil with Cd levels of 2.4 mg kg?1 and 9.2 mg kg?1, respectively. At soil Zn levels of 619 and 4082 mg kg?1, shoot Zn concentrations reached 1560 and 15,558 mg kg?1 (DM), respectively. The results indicate that S. jinianum is a Cd hyperaccumulator with a high capacity to accumulate Zn in the shoots.  相似文献

The objective of this study in 2009 was to examine whether levels of cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr) were higher in the leaves than in the stems of a submerged aquatic plant Ceratophyllum demersum in Anzali wetland. Cadmium, Pb and Cr concentrations were highest in the leaves. The mean concentrations of Cd and Cr in the leaves at all the sampling sites ranged between 0.94–1.26 μg g?1 and 1.03–2.71 μg g?1, respectively. Lead also had its highest concentrations in the leaves. The mean concentration of Pb in the leaves at all sampling sites ranged between 7.49–11.88 μg g?1. Copper and Zn concentrations were highest in the stems. The mean concentrations of Cu and Zn in the stems at all sampling sites ranged between 10.79–17.91 μg g?1 and 19.89–40.01 μg g?1, respectively. Cadmium and Pb concentrations were higher in the leaves than in the stems, while Zn concentration was higher in the stems than in the leaves. Accumulation of Cu and Cr in the organs of C. demersum was in descending order of leaf ~ stem, since there was no significant difference between their mean concentrations in the leaves and stems.  相似文献

The stomach of Pterygoplichthys anisitsi has a thin, translucent wall and a simple squamous epithelium with an underlying dense capillary network. In the cardiac and pyloric regions, most cells have short microvilli distributed throughout the cell surface and their edges are characterized by short, densely packed microvilli. The mucosal layer of the stomach has two types of pavement epithelial cells that are similar to those in the aerial respiratory organs. Type 1 pavement epithelial cells, resembling the Type I pneumocyte in mammal lungs, are flat, with a large nucleus, and extend a thin sheet of cytoplasm on the underlying capillary. Type 2 cells, resembling the Type II pneumocyte, possess numerous mitochondria, a well‐developed Golgi complex, rough endoplasmic reticulum, and numerous lamellar bodies in different stages of maturation. The gastric glands, distributed throughout the mucosal layer, also have several cells with many lamellar bodies. The total volume (air + tissue), tissue, and air capacity of the stomach when inflated, increase along with body mass. The surface‐to‐tissue‐volume ratio of stomach varies from 108 cm?1 in the smallest fish (0.084 kg) to 59 cm?1 in the largest fish (0.60 kg). The total stomach surface area shows a low correlation to body mass. Nevertheless, the body‐mass‐specific surface area varied from 281.40 cm2 kg?1 in the smallest fish to 68.08 cm2 kg?1 in the largest fish, indicating a negative correlation to body mass (b = ?0.76). The arithmetic mean barrier thickness between air and blood was 1.52 ± 0.07 μm, whereas the harmonic mean thickness (τh) of the diffusion barrier ranged from 0.40 to 0.74 μm. The anatomical diffusion factor (ADF = cm2 μm?1 kg?1) and the morphological O2 diffusion capacity (DmorpholO2 = cm3 min?1 mmHg?1 kg?1) are higher in the smallest specimen and lower in the largest one. In conclusion, the structure and morphometric data of P. anisitsi stomach indicate that this organ is adapted for oxygen uptake from air. J. Morphol. 2009. © 2008 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.  相似文献

Measurements of bimodal oxygen uptake have been made in a freshwater air-breathing fish,Notopterus chitala at 29.0±1(S.D.)°C. xhe mean oxygen uptake from continuously flowing water without any access to air, was found to be 3.58±0.37 (S.E.) ml O2 · h?1 and 56.84+4.29 (S.E.) ml O2 · kg?1 · h?1 for a fish weighing 66.92 + 11.27 (S.E.) g body weight. In still water with access to air, the mean oxygen uptake through the gills were recorded to be 2.49 ± 0.31 (S.E.) ml O2 · h?1 and 38.78 ± 1.92 (S.E.) ml O2 · kg?1 · h?1 and through the accessory respiratory organs (swim-bladder) 6.04±0.87 (S.E.) ml O2 · h?1 and 92.32±2.91 (S.E.) ml O2 · kg?1 · h?1 for a fish averaging 66.92±11.27 (S.E.) g. Out of the total oxygen uptake (131.10 ml O2 · kg?1 · h?1), about 70% was obtained through the aerial route and the remainder 30% through the gills.  相似文献

Sea bass with approximate average weights of 5 and 20 g were treated against Ceratothoa oestroides infection with: (i) medicated pellets of diflubenzuron PC90 at a dosage of 3 mg kg?1 body weight (BW) per day for 14 days. Lice were counted at the beginning of treatment and 19 days after treatment. The drug cleared all lice in the treated group; in the control group, infection remained high 30 days after beginning the experiment. It was concluded that medicated pellets containing 3 mg kg?1 BW diflubenzuron effectively cleared pre‐adult and adult stages of the isopod parasite over a 14‐day period. No adverse effects were recorded in treated sea bass during the trials and no reinfection occurred 15 days after end of the treatment. (ii) Deltamethrin by means of bath treatments in infected sea bass kept in experimental tanks at 20°C. Before treatment, toxicity on healthy fish was preliminarily assessed by testing five fish from each size group at concentrations of 30, 10, 5, 3, 1, 0.1, 0.05 and 0.01 mg L?1 for 30 min. The therapeutic concentrations tested were: 10, 5, 3, 0.15, 0.1, and 0.05 μg L?1 and assessed at 1, 24 and 48 h. Best results were achieved with the 10 μg L?1 (0.01 mg L?1) dose, where prevalence was reduced from 100 to 0% over 24 h in both large and small fish. No parasite recovery was observed at 48 h. The dose of 5 μg L?1 reduced prevalence from 100 to 11.7% and to 0% for small and large fish, respectively. Finally, with the 3 μg L?1 dose, prevalence was reduced from 100 to 37.5% (small fish) and to 13.3% (large fish). Lower doses were ineffective on the parasites at either 24 or 48 h.  相似文献
