The hybridization of crucian carp Carassius carassius inhabiting polyspecific carp populations of Ukraine’s water bodies and the genetic structure of its hybrids were studied using biochemical gene marking and cytometry procedures. The widespread hybridization between C. auratus and C. carassius was justified by a large number of hybrids, which could form populations only represented by hybrid specimens. The hybrids of C. auratus × C. carassius were diploid, triploid, and, in exceptional cases, tetraploid. Females and males were presented in equal numbers and were most likely breeding by hybridogenesis. Alongside with that, some clonal hybrids of C. carassius × C. gibelio-1 were represented by tetraploid females, and one triploid female of C. carassius × Tinca tinca was found. Arguments are presented in favour of hybridization of alien C. auratus and endemic C. carassius and that this hybridization may appear as one of the mechanisms of replacement and suppression of the C. carassius species.  相似文献

1. Releases of non‐native fish into the wild is an increasing problem posing considerable ecological and genetic threats through direct competition and hybridisation. 2. We employed six microsatellite markers to identify first generation hybrids and backcrosses between native crucian carp (Carassius carassius) and introduced goldfish (C. auratus) and common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in the U.K. We also investigated the genetic characteristics of the taxonomically controversial gibel carp (Carassius spp.) from sites across Europe. 3. Natural hybridisation between goldfish and crucian carp occurs frequently, although hybrids between all other species pairs were observed. Only 62% of British crucian carp populations (n = 21) consisted exclusively of pure crucian carp. In some populations hybrids were so frequent, that no pure crucian carp were caught, indicating a high competitive ability of hybrids. 4. Most hybrids belonged to the F1 generation but backcrossing was evident at a low frequency in goldfish × crucian carp hybrids and goldfish × common carp hybrids. Furthermore, some local populations had high frequencies of backcrosses, raising the opportunity for introgression. 5. Gibel carp from Germany and Italy belonged to two triploid clonal lineages that were genetically closely related to goldfish, whereas all individuals identified from British populations proved to be crucian carp × goldfish hybrids. 6. Our study suggests that the release of closely related exotic cyprinids not only poses a threat to the genetic integrity and associated local adaptations of native species, but may also contribute to shifts in community structure through competitive interactions.  相似文献

Hybrids from an intergeneric cross betweenCarassius carassius ? ×Gnathopogon elongatus elongatus ♂ were analyzed morphologically and karyologically and compared with the parental species. These hybrids possessed a mosaic of character expressions, but could be generally classified in two types similar to either C.carassius orG. elongatus elongatus. The karyotype was composed of two genomes of theCarassius parent and one of theGnathopogon parent for theCarassius- type hybrids, and one genome of theCarassius parent and two genomes of theGnathopogon parent for theGnathopogon- type hybrids.  相似文献

Only single cells in the carrier fish species Carassius carassius (Linnaeus, 1758) for koi herpesvirus (KHV) are infected in contrast to large numbers in the susceptible species common carp Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus 1758). Several species of the family Cyprinidae have been described as virus carrier species, showing no clinical signs of a KHV disease but able to transmit the virus to other susceptible fish. In this study, 72 common carp Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus, 1758), 36 tench Tinca tinca (Linnaeus, 1758), 36 crucian carp Carassius carassius (Linnaeus, 1758) and 36 common roach Rutilus rutilus (Linnaeus, 1758) were experimentally infected with KHV (isolate “Israel”) by immersion and kept at 20°C. The fish were euthanized at 12 timepoints over a period of 90 days and virus DNA was quantified in tissues by a real‐time TaqMan PCR. Whereas KHV‐DNA was found in Cyprinus carpio for up to 90 days, the virus DNA was detectable only in single individuals of Rutilus rutilus, Tinca tinca and Carassius carassius for up to 25 days after experimental virus exposure. Tissue samples of Cyprinus carpio and Carassius carassius were screened by in‐situ hybridization. Positive signals were found in various organs of the common carp tested crucian carp. In the latter species a much smaller number of virus‐positive stained cells was detected compared to the infected carp.  相似文献

Population genetic structure of silver Prussian carp from the Middle Dnieper basin was established by means of biochemical gene marking and cytometric analysis. In addition to diploid goldfish Carassius auratus, which was the basic species of bisexual colonies, a number of biotypes of triploid silver Prussian carp C. gibelio were identified. These biotypes either formed isolated unisexual populations, or were an admixture to the bisexual colonies. In addition, in bisexual colonies, triploid females of non-clonal origin were identified. Despite the fact that all forms of C. gibelio reproduced by means of gynogenesis, some of them (C. gibelio-1) formed isolated unisexual populations, while the others (C. gibelio-2, -3, and -4) usually coexisted with C. auratus.  相似文献

Investigations on myxozoan parasites of fish from Chongqing in China, revealed two Myxidium cuneiforme-like myxosporeans infecting the gallbladder of Cyprinus carpio carpio and Carassius auratus. We researched their myxospore morphology, and analyzed their genetic similarity and phylogenic relationships to other myxozoans based on small subunit ribosomal DNA (18S rDNA) sequences. Although both parasites recovered were morphologically similar, the myxosporean isolated from Cauratus was consistent in morphology to Myxidium cuneiforme, which was described from this host species. The parasite isolated from C. ccarpio had overlapping myxospore dimensions to Mcuneiforme, but on average, the polar capsules were not as long. More importantly, this parasite was genetically distinct from Mcuneiforme with 96.3% and 96.5% similarity in two sequences of 18S rDNA, and we propose the name Myxidium pseudocuneiforme n. sp. for this myxozoan from common carp. Its mature myxospores are ellipsoidal and asymmetric with pointed ends in valvular view, arc-shaped or fusiform in sutural view. The pyriform polar capsules are equal in size, and polar filament with 5–6 coils. This study highlights that molecular characteristics and host specificity are indispensable for myxozoan species identification when presented with the taxonomic dilemma of whether we are observing one species that exhibits slight morphological differences or multiple, but similar, species in different hosts.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships of Carassius genus subspecies were investigated based on the data of the variability of nucleotide sequences of the mtDNA cytochrome b (cyt b) and control region (CR). Dendrograms constructed based on the BA, ML, NJ, and MP methods revealed five clusters of the congruent topologies that substantially corresponded to geographical localities and taxonomic conception of the C. auratus complex. An analysis of two mtDNA fragment topologies demonstrated that the island forms of Japanese crucian carps C. cuvieri and C. auratus langsdorfii diverged later compared to the divergence of continental C. auratus forms (4.0?C4.5 mln years ago, by molecular calibration). Among the continental silver crucian carps, C. a. gibelio forms two clusters corresponding to two phylogroups with a mean uncorrected genetic distance p = 0.044. The genealogical combination of haplotypes with the first C. a. gibelio phylogroup was observed in C. auratus clade. According to the data of mtDNA analysis, these subspecies represent sister lineages with a level of intergroup divergence of p = 0.022?C0.036. No genetic differences were observed between diploid (except for the two C. a. gibelio phylogroups) and polyploid C a. auratus, as well as monophyly in polyploid forms. New approaches based on a comparative study of the nuclear markers might help to unravel the origin of gynogenetic forms and phylogenetic relationships within the C. auratus complex.  相似文献

Introduction of non-native fish species has been criticized as one of the major threats to freshwater ecosystems. During recent years, the cyprinid fish genus Carassius has been the subject of various studies in terms of introduction biology and ecology. The taxonomy and identification of described species in the genus Carassius is still ambiguous. In order to increase the knowledge of introduced species of the genus in Iran, molecular approaches were employed to identify species based on the mitochondrial gene, cytochrome b (Cyt b). In total, 417 specimens across Eurasia and some other parts of the world have been analyzed. Afterwards, investigation of the possible origin and pathways of introduction was done using analysis of haplotype networks based on the Cyt b gene. The results revealed that there are three introduced species i.e., Carassius auratus, Carassius gibelio and Carassius langsdorfii, in inland waters of Iran. Carassius langsdorfii was recorded from Iran and western Asia for the first time. Analysis of haplotype network showed various potential sources of introduction for each species in Iran and regions beyond their native distribution ranges.  相似文献

We report the development of 20 microsatellite markers for Fangzheng silver crucian carp, Carassius auratus gibelio (Bloch). Nineteen out of 20 showed polymorphism with alleles ranging from two to 14. These loci were screened to amplify the closely related species crucian carp, Carassius auratus auratus (Linnaeus) and all of them can amplify DNA with the size similar to the former. The origin of silver crucian carp is in issue and the population genetic structure is still unclear. Microsatellite markers isolated from the silver crucian carp and their utility in the crucian carp will be useful for these researches.  相似文献

A fundamental consideration for the conservation of a species is the extent of its native range, that is, regions naturally colonized. However, both natural processes and human‐mediated introductions can drive species distribution shifts. Ruling out the human‐mediated introduction of a species into a given region is vital for its conservation, but remains a significant challenge in most cases. The crucian carp Carassius carassius (L.) is a threatened freshwater fish thought to be native to much of Europe. However, its native status in England is based only on anecdotal evidence. Here, we devise an approach that can be used to empirically test the native status of English fauna. We use this approach, along with 13 microsatellite loci, population structure analyses, and Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC), to test hypotheses for the origins of C. carassius in England. Contrary to the current consensus, we find strong support for the human‐mediated introduction of C. carassius into England during the 15th century. This result stimulates an interesting and timely debate surrounding motivations for the conservation of species. We discuss this topic, and the potential for continued conservation of C. carassius in England, despite its non‐native origins.  相似文献

Carassius carp is one of the most popular freshwater fish as a source of food and aesthetic enjoyment from historical times. However, the species status of this group is controversial owing to extreme morphological variation and various ploidy levels, and therefore, many regional groups still remain to be reconsidered. The taxonomy of the Carassius fish in the Korean Peninsula, previously identified as C. auratus langsdorfi, has long been in doubt because several river basins were isolated from each other by the sea to such an extent that the strong geographic structure of the population may have influenced this fish group distributed over whole peninsula. Here, we suggest some clues to resolve the taxonomic entity of Carassius fish in South Korea using mitochondrial genetic variation in a comparison with those from nearby regions with a view to establishing the phylogeography and genetic structure of population. We found three monophyletic phylogroups (pgA, pgB, and pgC), which interestingly do not relate to C. auratus langsdorfi. Geographically, pgA and pgB were observed only in the westward rivers (WWRs) and southward rivers (SWRs), respectively, except for some marginal locations between the two river groups. pgA, including the haplotypes from Weihai, northern China, shared a common ancestry with C. gibelio. pgC may be a lineage that has been introduced, as shown by the result that it belongs to same clade as goldfish. It is likely that pgB has undergone a distinct evolutionary process after separation from pgA and the population of northern mainland China. Our results suggest the need of further taxonomic studies to elucidate the status of these groups and to assign an adequate taxonomic category to each. And, therefore, pgA and pgB, regardless of taxonomic level, deserve conservation as endemic groups in this region.  相似文献

Ichthyofauna in the Hellenic freshwaters is quite diverse consisted of 161 species (including 28 non-natives), out of the 546 native species in Pan-European level. However, the status of many aquatic ecosystems is currently degraded as a result of a variety of anthropogenic impacts. This has direct reflection on the conservation status of the indigenous and native fish species whose populations are in many cases declining in favor of the invasive ones. Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio) is probably the most dominant invasive species and currently is considered as naturalized in about 26 lake and river basins. Its successful adaptation and proliferation is mainly attributed to its dual reproductive mode (allogynogenetic and gonochoristic), the opportunistic-omnivorous feeding habits and the ability to withstand and flourish in adverse ecological conditions. Accordingly, it exerts competitive, as well as destructive effects upon the indigenous fish species (sperm parasitism, antagonism for food, spawning grounds and spawning substrates) and therefore, efforts are needed to sustain a relative balance of the populations. This review aims to critically discuss the status of C. gibelio in Greece, the intrinsic causes of establishment and the observed impacts on ecosystems. Finally, reasonable actions are proposed related to exploitation of C. gibelio stocks and a path model for the protection of native fish species and their ecosystems.  相似文献

The genetic constitution and phylogenetic relationships among the proposed species and subspecies of the crucian carp complex in Japan (Carassius cuvieri, C. auratus subspp. 1 and 2, C. a. grandoculis, C. a. buergeri, and C. a. langsdorfii) were investigated based on analyses of the partial nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial DNA control region and amplified fragment length polymorphisms of nuclear DNA. Our results demonstrate that C. cuvieri and C. auratus are different entities. However, although several distinct lineages were observed for C. auratus, none corresponded to the proposed subspecies. Moreover, the five subspecies of C. auratus were not necessarily separated genetically from each other. Triploid fish, which are currently classified as a single subspecies (C. a. langsdorfii) but are sometimes treated as an independent species, fell into various clades along with diploid individuals of other subspecies that have the same or similar mitochondrial haplotypes. This suggests that gynogenetic triploid crucian carps distributed throughout the Japanese Archipelago have polyphyletic maternal origins. Our results indicate that Japanese crucian carps are a much more complex assemblage than previously believed.  相似文献

PCR-RFLP analysis of the ND3/ND4L/ND4 and 12S/16S rRNA regions and nucleotide sequence variation of the cytochrome b gene were used to study the mtDNA divergence in species of the family Cyprinidae, to examine the phylogenetic relationships of the species, and to identify their taxonomic status. The results indicated that an ancestral form diverged into silver crucian carp and crucian carp after its separation from the common carp lineage. The divergence of continental Carassius auratus gibelio and Japanese C. auratus cuvieri occurred more recently. Two well distinguishable mtDNA phylogroups, suggesting divergent evolution, were observed in continental C. auratus gibelio populations. The divergence was possibly related to the formation of two silver crucian carp groups with different types of reproduction, triploid gynogenetic and diploid gonochoric. At the same time, the results supported the high probability of current genetic exchange between the forms. In view of these findings and high morphological similarity of the two forms, they were not considered to be separate species.  相似文献

This study investigated the morphological variation of gibel carp Carassius gibelio collected from various water bodies in Türkiye. The fish samples were obtained from three dams (Karacaören-1, Karakaya, and Keban), two natural lakes (Beyşehir and Suğla), and a river (the Tigris River). The dimorphism in body shape was examined with geometric morphometrics, while elliptic Fourier analysis and shape indices were used to describe the variation in lapilli otoliths (hereafter “otoliths”) and scale shapes. The body of C. gibelio revealed higher variations, particularly in the body depth, snout length, caudal fin, and caudal peduncle, among different stations. Geometric morphometric analysis determined a streamlined body shape of C. gibelio in the Tigris River compared to other stations, while C. gibelio from the natural lakes had a deeper body shape. The body of C. gibelio exhibited a significant homogenous shape between the Beyşehir and Suğla lakes, providing the lowest Procrustes distance. The elliptic Fourier analysis revealed that the otolith shape varied significantly between all stations. However, the scale shape was remarkably similar among nearby areas such as Karacaören dam, Suğla, and Beyşehir lakes. These results evinced high degree of intra-population morphological variation in C. gibelio in response to prevailing environmental conditions that probably facilitate their successful establishment in a novel environment.  相似文献

Hypoxia tolerance of diploid gynogenetic and triploid backcross hybrids between golden carp Carassius auratus and carp Cyprinus carpio was investigated in comparison with carp. The more that heredity of golden carp was in their genotype, the better the hybrids survived under hypoxia conditions.  相似文献

The present study reports length–weight relationships (LWR) and length–length relationships (LLR) for five native freshwater fish species (Schizopygopsis younghusbandi, Triplophysa orientalis, T. tibetana, T. stewartii and T. stenura) and four introduced freshwater fish species (Pseudorasbora parva, Carassius auratus, Micropercops cinctus and Oryzias latipes) captured in the Lhasa River Basin, Tibet, China. Five of the LWRs are presented for the first time.  相似文献

The crucian carp (Carassius carassius, L.) and the brown trout (Salmo trutta, L.) are vanishing from freshwater ecosystems of central Europe. To conserve both species, tailor‐made conservation management of habitats and populations of both species was implemented and tested in the Czech Republic (central Europe). This management was adjusted to reflect the ecological needs of both species. This study aimed to describe the results of a tested in situ management and to analyze the population growth of brown trout and crucian carp under ideal conditions. An experiment was performed at 14 small gravel pit lakes. Seven of them were adjusted to fit the crucian carp habitat requirements while the other seven were treated as a control group. The same experiment was done on 14 smaller streams and with brown trout. The occurrence and growth of crucian carp and brown trout were surveyed over 2 years. A significantly faster growth of both crucian carp and brown trout was observed on the adjusted lakes and streams in comparison to the control group ones. Trout and carp prospered on small streams and gravel pit lakes (respectively) that were free of angling, fish stocking, pollution, piscivorous predators, and competition with hybridizing species like Prussian carp (Carassius auratus, L.) or hatchery‐reared brown trout.  相似文献
