Taxonomic identification, biology, and pathogenicity of a microsporidian recovered from a laboratory culture of the western variety of the alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica, were studied by means of light microscopy. The name Perezia hyperae sp. n. has been proposed for the organism. The developmental stages of the pathogen were characterized on the basis of cell division, nuclear arrangement, and measurements. The complete life cycle, spore-to-spore, including two stages of schizogomy, had a duration of about 100 hr at 22°C and 80% RH in experimentally inoculated fourth instar larvae. In some larvae, the infection induced the formation of irregularly shaped bulges and a reduction in silk production necessary for cocoon formation. However, adults developed from infected larvae did not show corresponding abnormalities. Malpighian tubules were found to be the primary site of infection in the larvae. In later phases of infection the microsporidian was found in the intersegmental muscles, abdominal nerve cords, epidermal cells of the integument, fat bodies, and tracheal systems of the larvae, but not in their alimentary canals.  相似文献

Plagiorchis noblei infections impair the survival and development of fourth instar Aedes aegypti larvae. Mortality during the larval and pupal stages reached 92%, and 60% of the emerging adults were malformed. The metacercariae interfere with pupation and the emergence of adults. Larvae and pupae that fail to transform to the next developmental stage within the normal time characteristically persist for extended periods, but invariably die without transforming. Whereas 82% of the control larvae gave rise to functional adults, only 4% of infected larvae managed to do so. Such effects may facilitate the transmission of the parasite.  相似文献

We studied how biologically relevant trace metals (i.e., micronutrients) in the hemolymph of larval Heliothis virescens and Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) changed in response to per os baculovirus infection, larval development, and injection of heat-killed bacteria. Concentrations of hemolymph Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Mo, Ni, and Zn were measured using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. H. virescens larvae exhibited greater fluctuations in hemolymph trace metal levels in response to baculovirus infection and development than did H. zea larvae. H. zea single nucleopolyhedrosis virus infection significantly altered the levels of Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Mo, and Zn in fourth instar H. virescens larvae. Conversely, in fifth instar H. virescens and both H. zea instar infections, no metal levels were significantly different between infected and uninfected larvae. In fourth instar H. virescens hemolymph, Cu, Fe, Mo, and Zn increased during development. Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Mo, and Zn levels changed significantly during development in fifth instar H. virescens as well as both H. zea instars. Based on this analysis, metals were identified whose levels changed during development in both species and during the immune response of H. virescens larvae.  相似文献

Acquired resistance in sheep to infection with larvae of the blowfly, Lucilia cuprina. International Journal for Parasitology16: 69–75. Resistance to blowfly larvae infections developed in sheep exposed to at least four consecutive infections. Half of the sheep treated showed significant levels of resistance, the others remained susceptible. This resistance took the form of a decreased yield of third instar larvae in comparison to controls and sheep which remained susceptible. In addition an increased sensitivity to larvae developed, as shown by the area of wound obtained per maggot recovered, by the early appearance in resistant sheep of exudate from the infection site and by skin reactions to larval products. Radioimmunoassays demonstrated high levels of serum antibody against larval excretory/secretory antigens, though the response did not peak until after four infections. Resistant animals showed somewhat lower antibody titres than susceptible sheep. Consecutive infections of only 50 larvae failed to induce resistance to larger challenge infections. It is suggested that consecutive infections of larger numbers of maggots induce a hypersensitivity response which may effect larval survival especially of first and second instar maggots.  相似文献

A laboratory study was made of the feeding behaviour of the ladybeetlePseudoscymnus kurohime (Miyatake) when attacking the sugar cane woolly aphidCeratovacuna lanigera Zehntner. The 1st-instar ladybeetle larva was smaller than the 1st instar aphid nymph. All larval stages of the ladybeetle sucked out the body fluids of aphids and left their emptied corpses. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd instar ladybeetle larvae mostly attacked 1st instar aphids, whereas the 4th-instar ladybeetle larvae attacked all stages of aphids. Ladybeetle adults ate mostly 1st-instar aphids. Young larvae attacked aphids in several different ways: (1) They crawled under an aphid, seized it by its underside and lifted it up. (2) They attacked new born nymphs at birth or shortly afterwards. (3) They fed on an aphid that had been captured by an older larva. The larvae preferred to seize with their mandibles the head or thorax of an aphid, while adults seized their prey by the abdomen. When attacked by an adult, 82% of the aphids secreted droplets from their abdominal cornicles, whereas only 7.2–12% secreted droplets when attacked by larvae. From February 1998 to January 1999, 106 red deer in the Autonomic Organism National Park "Quintos de Mora" (Toledo, central Spain) were evaluated to determine the prevalence and dynamics of infection with Hypoderma sp. by detection of subcutaneous larvae. Between six and 13 deer shot in selective hunting were examined monthly. Hypoderma sp. larvae were detected throughout the period except in June, July and August of 1998. Excluding the period during which no subcutaneous larvae were detected, the number of animals sampled was 80 (52 males and 28 females), belonging to three age classes: 12 calves (<1-yr-old), 19 yearlings (1-yr-old), and 49 adults (2- to 10-yr-old). All the third instar (L3) collected were identified as H. actaeon. Total prevalence during the period of larval detection was 61%. Prevalence in yearling and adult deer shot during the official hunting season was 89%. Monthly prevalence increased from September to January and decreased from February to May. In September and October, a small percentage of larvae were classified as first instar (L1). The rest of larvae collected between September and December were second instar (L2). Third instar (L3) predominated in January and February and was the only stage collected from March to May. Intensity ranged from 1 to 145 larvae. Intensities were >100 larvae in 6% of animals. Possible relationships of intensity or prevalence of infection with sex or age of the animals were evaluated. Significant differences in prevalence were observed among different host age classes. Prevalence was higher in yearlings (84%) than in adults (63%) and lowest in calves (17%).  相似文献

Two experiments on the nymphal predation of Podisus maculiventris were conducted using Spodoptera litura larvae as prey. First experiment: The predator nymphs divided into three groups were reared individually from second instar to adult in a small vessel. Each nymph in the groups 1, 2 and 3 was allowed to attack the serially growing larvae (these were supplied at the rate of one per day) from 3-, 5- and 7-day old after hatching, respectively. The first prey used for the group 1 was so small that it was not only insufficient to satiate the predator but also was difficult to be searched out. But these disadvantages were soon recuperated due to the rapid growth of the prey and all nymphs could survive to adults. The survival rate of third and fourth instar nymphs in the group 3 was severely affected by vigorous counterattack of older prey larvae. Second experiment: The predator nymphs were individually reared either in a small vessel or in a large one at various rates of food supply (the prey larvae of 7-day old were used). The functional response curves obtained for each instar of the predator took a saturation type within a certain range of the prey density. The saturation level specific to each instar was generally higher for the predator reared in the large vessel than in the small one. The functional response of fourth and fifth instar nymphs was accelerated at a high prey density, viz. 16 larvae per vessel. Even at the low rate of food supply, viz. one larva per day per predator, the predator nymphs could survive to adults, but the size of resultant adults were abnormally small.  相似文献

实验室条件下研究了黄玛草蛉2龄与3龄幼虫对甘蓝蚜以及玉米蚜成虫的捕食功能反应。结果表明:黄玛草蛉2龄与3龄幼虫对2种蚜虫的捕食量均随着猎物密度的增加而增加,寻找效应随着猎物密度的增加而减小。不同龄期幼虫对2种蚜虫的捕食功能反应均符合HollingⅡ模型,黄玛草蛉2龄与3龄幼虫对玉米蚜最大理论日捕食量分别为120.48头、185.18头;黄玛草蛉2龄与3龄幼虫对甘蓝蚜最大理论日捕食量分别为60.60头、86.95头。在相同猎物种类下,黄玛草蛉3龄幼虫对2种蚜虫的捕食量均高于黄玛草蛉2龄幼虫;在相同猎物密度下,黄玛草蛉2龄幼虫与3龄幼虫对玉米蚜的捕食量均高于甘蓝蚜。  相似文献

室内研究了蓝蝽Zicrona caerula(Linnaeus)对马铃薯甲虫Leptinotarsa decemlineata(Say)低龄幼虫的捕食功能反应和选择效应。HollingII型圆盘方程和HollingⅢ型新模型拟合结果共同显示,蓝蝽若虫对马铃薯甲虫1龄幼虫的捕食量随着龄期的增加而增大;4、5龄若虫及成虫的捕食量均在17头以上。由HollingII模型获得蓝蝽对马铃薯甲虫1龄幼虫的控制能力为2龄<3龄<4龄<5龄<成虫;随着食物密度的增加,蓝蝽各虫态的寻找效应逐渐下降。田间防治马铃薯甲虫1龄幼虫时,2~5龄蓝蝽若虫及成虫的最佳益害比应该分别为1∶2、1∶4、1∶13、1∶14、1∶13,然而,食物选择效应显示蓝蝽原生境中猎物-兰叶甲可能会对防治产生影响。  相似文献

Rhodnius prolixus adults which had fed to repletion at each larval instar were frequently autogenous, while those allowed to take only partial blood meals at the 3rd, 4th and 5th larval instars were always anautogenous.Bugs fed to repletion at each larval instar had large abdominal fat bodies throughout adult life. In such bugs, the quantity of blood associated with the production of one egg was small and constant during the course of several blood meals.Bugs fed partial blood meals as larvae had small abdominal fat bodies following ecdysis to the adult; the quantity of blood associated with the production of one egg was large following the first adult feed because some of the blood meal was used to increase the size of the abdominal fat bodies.  相似文献

Trypsin and chymotrypsin-like enzymes were detected in the gut of Aedes aegypti in the four larval instar and pupal developmental stages. Although overall the amount of trypsin synthesized in the larval gut was 2-fold higher than chymotrypsin, both enzymes are important in food digestion. Feeding Aea-Trypsin Modulating Oostatic Factor (TMOF) to Ae. aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus larvae inhibited trypsin biosynthesis in the larval gut, stunted larval growth and development, and caused mortality. Aea-TMOF induced mortality in Ae. aegypti, Cx. quinquefasciatus, Culex nigripalpus, Anopheles quadrimaculatus, and Aedes taeniorhynchus larvae, indicating that many mosquito species have a TMOF-like hormone. The differences in potency of TMOF on different mosquito species suggest that analogues in other species are similar but may differ in amino acid sequence or are transported differently through the gut. Feeding of 29 different Aea-TMOF analogues to mosquito larvae indicated that full biological activity of the hormone is achieved with the tetrapeptide YDPA. Using cytoimmunochemical analysis, intrinsic TMOF was localized to ganglia of the central nervous system in larvae and male and female Ae. aegypti adults. The subesophageal, thoracic, and abdominal ganglia of both larval and adult mosquitoes contained immunoreactive cells. Immunoreactive cells were absent in the corpus cardiacum of newly molted 4th instar larvae but were found in late 4th instar larvae. In both males and females, the intrinsic neurosecretory cells of the corpus cardiacum were filled with densely stained immunoreactive material. These results indicate that TMOF-immunoreactive material is synthesized in sugar-fed male and female adults and larvae by the central nervous system cells.  相似文献

室内研究了草间钻头蛛Hylyphantes graminicola雌蛛对茶尺蠖Ectropis oblique1龄幼虫和小绿叶蝉Em-poesca flavescens成虫、大草蛉Chrysopa pallens和中华通草蛉Chrysoperla sinica的2龄幼虫对茶尺蠖卵、1龄幼虫的选择捕食作用。对试验数据应用Ivelev指数、Jacobs指数和Manly指数及Murdoch作图法进行了比较分析。结果显示,草间钻头蛛对茶尺蠖1龄幼虫和小绿叶蝉成虫的选择性不明显,选择性不因猎物数量的增加而转移。而大草蛉和中华通草蛉对茶尺蠖卵均有明显的正选择效应。  相似文献

【目的】为明确新疆棉田棉蚜 Aphis gossypii 捕食性天敌之间的集团内捕食效应及其对蚜虫数量的控制作用。【方法】本研究以优势天敌昆虫大草蛉 Chrysopa pallens 和七星瓢虫 Coccinella septempunctata 为对象,以棉蚜为猎物,在温室中利用盆栽棉花,首先观察了2种天敌昆虫之间各虫态及虫龄配对的19个处理在无蚜植株上共存24 h后的存活数,然后观察了2种天敌昆虫配对处理下棉苗上棉蚜数量随时间的变化趋势。【结果】在无蚜棉株上2种捕食性天敌昆虫共存24 h后的存活结果表明:(1)在发育阶段相同的配对组合中,若是成虫则均存活,若是1龄幼虫则大草蛉存活较多,若是末龄幼虫则七星瓢虫存活较多;(2)在有卵的组配中,除七星瓢虫卵不被大草蛉成虫所捕食外,其他5个组配处理中卵均被捕食;(3)在有蛹的配对组合中,除七星瓢虫蛹被大草蛉末龄幼虫捕食外,其他处理下蛹均不被捕食;(4)在成虫与幼虫的配对组合中,七星瓢虫成虫捕食较多的大草蛉1龄幼虫,但不捕食大草蛉末龄幼虫,而大草蛉成虫与七星瓢虫1龄或末龄幼虫之间不发生捕食;(5)在不同龄期幼虫的配对组合中,大草蛉末龄幼虫捕食七星瓢虫1龄幼虫,而七星瓢虫末龄幼虫捕食大草蛉1龄幼虫。在有蚜植株上2种捕食性天敌共存对棉蚜数量具有不同的控制作用:(1)2种捕食昆虫的幼虫各自单独存在(对照)下,蚜虫密度随时间而降低;(2)大草蛉幼虫与七星瓢虫幼虫或成虫配对处理下,棉蚜密度随时间而增大;(3)大草蛉成虫与七星瓢虫幼虫或成虫配对处理下,棉蚜密度随时间而减小。【结论】研究结果说明,大草蛉与七星瓢虫之间存在集团内捕食,但2种天敌共存对棉蚜的控制作用取决于大草蛉虫态, 若大草蛉为幼虫,可使蚜虫密度增大,若为成虫,则使蚜虫密度减小。  相似文献

Beauveria bassiana, an entomopathogenic fungus, was evaluated for its potential against second and third instar larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus, Anopheles stephensi and Aedes aegypti. Conidiospores of this fungus were effective in causing infection leading to mortality of different larval instars. Larvae of Cx. quinquefasciatus were more susceptible to infection than An. stephensi and the second instar larvae of these two species were more susceptible than third instar larvae. Larvae of Ae. aegypti were resistant to infection by B. bassiana.  相似文献

1. Previous laboratory bioassays indicate that exocrine glandular secretions of larvae of Gastrophysa viridula repel conspecific adults and deter them from feeding and oviposition. The present study was conducted to investigate the influence of larvae of G. viridula on conspecific adults in the field.
2. Within the G. viridula population studied, two generations were observed in a year. Occurrence of the different developmental stages overlapped temporally.
3. Some individual plants of Rumex obtusifolius , the host of the G. viridula population studied, grew so close to each other that they were considered as a plant group. When investigating the spatial distribution of larvae and adults within such plant groups, larvae were rarely found on plant groups on which adults were feeding.
4. A field experiment revealed that adults avoided plants of R. obtusifolius infested by conspecific larvae of the second and third instar. Adults still avoided these damaged plants when larvae had left them for pupation.
5. Gastrophysa viridula avoided oviposition on leaves and plants infested by conspecific larvae. Larvae of the second instar significantly deterred oviposition when present at a high density (33.3 larvae/dm2), whereas larvae of the first instar did not deter oviposition of conspecifics at either density tested. The oviposition deterring effect was also observed when just exocrine glandular secretion of larvae of the second instar was applied to the leaves in amounts equivalent to a density of 33.3 larvae/dm2.
6. Availability of food ( R. obtusifolius ) largely exceeded its exploitation in each group of plants examined. This may be due to either the spatial separation of adults and larvae or the low population density observed on these plant groups.  相似文献

研究了饲料中不同浓度的Ni2+(140mg/kg)对连续3个世代斜纹夜蛾Spodoptera litura Fabricius6龄末幼虫、蛹和成虫血淋巴中能量物质总糖、蛋白质和脂肪含量及血淋巴中热量值的影响。结果表明,Ni2+胁迫1个世代,6龄末幼虫、蛹和成虫血淋巴中的总糖含量均低于对照,而血淋巴中的蛋白质含量则在低浓度Ni2+胁迫下增高,在高浓度Ni2+胁迫下降低;只有受120mg/kg Ni2+胁迫的6龄末幼虫血淋巴的脂肪含量高于对照,而蛹和成虫血淋巴中的脂肪含量及热量值均低于对照。在Ni2+胁迫的第2、3代,6龄末幼虫、蛹和成虫血淋巴中的总糖、蛋白含量和热量值与饲料中Ni2+浓度的反应关系均表现为低浓度Ni2+胁迫增加而高浓度Ni2+胁迫降低的趋势;然而,血淋巴中的脂肪含量随饲料中Ni2+浓度的增加而降低。因此,重金属Ni2+对S.litura能量物质的影响与虫体内能量物质的种类和虫体的发育阶段有一定的关联。  相似文献

【目的】本研究旨在明确松墨天牛 Monochamus alteratus 成虫及越冬幼虫体型大小的差异,探讨该虫越冬后成虫体型大小和越冬幼虫体重大小关系及原因。【方法】于2014年5月1日至10月31日在浙江富阳野外诱捕松墨天牛,通过测量野外诱捕到的松墨天牛成虫体长、体宽,确定林间松墨天牛成虫体型的差异;松墨天牛越冬幼虫的采集和称重测量明确越冬幼虫的组成和体重大小差异;进而通过对越冬幼虫单头跟踪饲养至化蛹、羽化,确定越冬幼虫体重大小与发育所得蛹和成虫大小的关系,阐明林间松墨天牛成虫体型差异的原因。【结果】浙江富阳野外诱捕发现,松墨天牛的活动期间很长,从5月中旬到10月初一直能诱捕到松墨天牛成虫,高峰期在6和7月份。松墨天牛雌雄成虫体型差异很大,雌虫平均体长和体宽分别为20.59±0.19和6.59±0.06 mm;雄虫平均体长和体宽分别为19.90±0.26 和6.44±0.08 mm; 雌虫的平均体长明显高于雄虫,但二者体宽没有显著差异;并且雌雄成虫体长和体宽呈显著正相关。越冬幼虫的头宽测定表明头宽的变化很大,最小为2.20 mm,最大为4.24 mm,经比对越冬幼虫由4龄和5龄幼虫组成;幼虫体重差异大,平均体重为304.2 mg, 介于71.6~858.0 mg之间,其中5龄越冬幼虫显著重于4龄越冬幼虫。进一步将越冬幼虫单管饲养跟踪研究发现,越冬幼虫体重大小决定蛹和羽化后的成虫的大小,二者存在显著的正相关,并且由4龄越冬幼虫发育所得的蛹和成虫显著轻于由5龄幼虫发育所得的蛹和成虫。【结论】松墨天牛成虫体型差异很大,这与越冬幼虫体重差异相关;越冬幼虫的体重大小决定了其化蛹后的蛹重和羽化后成虫的体型和体重的大小;造成越冬幼虫体重差异的可能原因包括松墨天牛成虫扬飞周期长导致的产卵期长而使得天牛发育进度不一致以及寄主不同部位营养的差异。  相似文献

Mounting evidence implicates ecdysteroids in queen-worker differentiation during the last larval instars of highly social insects. In the present study, we analyzed ecdysteroid titers in queen and worker larvae of the bumblebee Bombus terrestris from the second to the early fourth instar. B. terrestris is of particular interest because caste is already determined in the second instar, presumably by a pheromonal signal emitted by the egg-laying queen. Caste differences in the adults, however, are only expressed at the physiological and not at the morphological level, except for the distinctly larger size of the queen. In the second and third instar, ecdysteroid titers in queen larvae were generally higher than those of workers. These early caste-specific differences, however, were abolished in the fourth instar. In the early fourth instar we could detect two small ecdysteroid peaks, with the one preceding the cocoon-spinning phase presenting the characteristics of a pupal commitment peak. The synchrony of caste differences in ecdysteroid and juvenile hormone titers suggests a synergistic action of these hormones in caste determination.  相似文献

Descendants of two Colorado, U.S.A., populations of D. pseudoobscura, Boulder and La Foret, were exposed to +2 degrees and -2 degrees . In third instar larvae from Boulder AR and PP third chromosome gene arrangements survived better than TL and others, while the reverse situation occurred for La Foret. Deleterious dominant effects were observed for AR from La Foret. In adults from Boulder there was a trend towards greater survival for AR and PP than for other gene arrangements, while AR from La Foret showed relatively poor cold resistance. Survival of Boulder and La Foret flies, and their interpopulation hybrid, was determined after exposure to -2 degrees at two humidities. Order of survival of developmental stages was: adults > third instar larvae > mixture of first and second instar larvae. Adults survived better at low humidity, while larvae survived better at high humidity. Boulder adults and larvae survived better than those from La Foret. Advantage in survival of hybrids over the midparent ranged from 23% to 138%. Hybrid advantage over the higher parent ranged from 5% to 111%. Order of expression of heterosis was: mixture of first and second instar larvae > third instar larvae > adults. Relation of all results to the chromosomal polymorphisms at Boulder (seasonally constant) and La Foret (seasonally cyclic) is discussed.  相似文献

Morphology of the first instar larvae of Collembola has considerably taxonomical and phylogenetic significance. We describe the first instar larvae for the first time in Homidia. External morphology of first instar larvae and adults of Homidia jordanai sp. n. is described based on observations under light and scanning electron microscopes. Most organs of adults bear considerably more setae than the first instar larvae; in addition, first instar larval Homidia lack labial seta R, seta on tenaculum, mucronal spine, and dental spines. The new species is characterized by weakly pigmented body, long antennae subequal to body in length, 1+1 inner macrochaetae on Abd. III, few inner macrochaetae on posterior Abd. IV, and spiny and short seta pi on dental base. Differences between new species and other two similar ones, taxonomical significance of the first instar larvae and the position of Homidia are also discussed.  相似文献
