In this study the effects of immature wheat grains (IWG), a natural source of fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), on intestinal microbiota and gastrointestinal function were evaluated. Ileal effluents from three ileostomates were collected for 8 h after IWG-enriched or Control biscuit administration, and then fermented in vitro with human faecal inoculum. On fermentation broths, microbial counts and SCFA were measured. Moreover, we investigated the effect of IWG biscuits on gastric emptying. Twelve healthy volunteers underwent ultrasound measurement of gastric emptying of a standard meal consumed 5 h after a breakfast composed by lactose-free milk and IWG or Control biscuits; hunger and satiety sensations were also evaluated in this period. Bifidobacteria and lactic acid bacteria counts were higher (P < 0.05) in IWG than in Control cultures, supporting the prebiotic effects of IWG, probably linked to its FOS content; moreover IWG fermentation produced more acetate. In vivo IWG biscuits delayed gastric emptying of the next meal (P < 0.05), decreased hunger (P < 0.001) and increased satiety (P < 0.005). Therefore in vitro results substantiate the potential of IWG as a prebiotic ingredient and in vivo data suggest an effect of IWG on gastric emptying and on persistent satiety. These preliminary data tend to support the use of IWG in formulating functional prebiotic products suitable to promote satiety.  相似文献

Gastric motor dysfunction induced by psychological stress results in many symptoms of functional dyspepsia (FD). There are a number of herbal medicines that are reported to improve gastrointestinal motor. However, the mechanisms of considerable herbal medicines are not explicit. In the present study, the effects of an essential oil (EO) extracted from Atractylodes lancea on delayed gastric emptying, gastrointestinal hormone and hypothalamic corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) abnormalities induced by restraint stress in rats were investigated and the mechanism of the EO is also explored.Oral administration of EO for 7 days did not affect normal gastric emptying, but accelerated delayed gastric emptying induced by restraint stress in rats. The EO significantly increased the levels of motilin (MTL) and gastrin (GAS) and decreased the levels of somatostatin (SS) and CRF. The EO did not modify gastric emptying in vagotomized rats that underwent restraint stress, but antagonized delayed gastric emptying induced by intracisternal injection of CRF. These results suggest that the regulative effects of the EO on delayed gastric emptying are preformed mainly via inhibition of the release of central CRF and activation of vagal pathway, which are also involved in the release of gastrointestinal hormones such as MTL, GAS and SS.  相似文献

Objective: The objective was to describe the pattern of breakfast eating over time (“breakfast history”) and examine its associations with BMI and physical activity. Research Methods and Procedures: This longitudinal investigation of patterns of breakfast eating included 1210 black and 1161 white girls who participated in the 10‐year, longitudinal National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Growth and Health Study (NGHS). Three‐day food records were collected during annual visits beginning at ages 9 or 10 up to age 19. Linear regression and path analysis were used to estimate the associations between breakfast history, BMI, and physical activity. Results: Among girls with a high BMI at baseline, those who ate breakfast more often had lower BMI at the end of the study (age 19), compared with those who ate breakfast less often. Path analysis indicated that energy intake and physical activity mediated the association between patterns of breakfast eating over time and BMI in late adolescence. Discussion: The association between regular breakfast consumption over time and moderation of body weight among girls who began the study with relatively high BMI suggests that programs to address overweight in children and adolescents should emphasize the importance of physical activity and eating breakfast consistently.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo determine the frequency of gastric sensory motor symptoms in youth with type 1 diabetes.MethodsA prospective cross-sectional study was performed to evaluate symptoms of delayed gastric emptying in participants with type 1 diabetes, aged 12 to 25 years, using the Gastroparesis Cardinal Symptom Index (GCSI) questionnaire. In addition, a 5-year (January 2015 to December 2019), a retrospective study was completed on all gastric emptying scans performed in youth at our institution.ResultsA total of 359 participants (mean age, 17.7 ± 3.33 years) with type 1 diabetes completed the GCSI questionnaire. Compared with nonresponders, responders were more likely to be non-Hispanic White (90% vs 86%; P =.003) and female patients (58% vs 44%; P <.0001), with a lower HbA1c (8.1 ± 1.8 vs 9.0 ± 2.1; P <.0001). At least 1 gastrointestinal symptom was reported in 270 (75%) of responders, of which nausea was the most common (71%). A GCSI score of ≥1.9 suggestive of more severe gastrointestinal symptoms was reported in 17% of responders. Participants with scores ≥1.9 were older (19.1 ± 3.0 vs 17.8 ± 3.3 years; P =.01). In the retrospective study, 778 underwent gastric emptying scan, 29 participants had type 1 diabetes and 11 (38%) showed delayed gastric emptying.ConclusionGastrointestinal symptoms related to gastric sensory motor abnormalities are seen in youth and young adults with type 1 diabetes. In particular, for those with higher GCSI scores, earlier recognition and referral may be warranted.  相似文献

Motilin--an update   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
J E Fox 《Life sciences》1984,35(7):695-706
Motilin isolated in 1971 from the porcine gastrointestinal tract and localized there to endocrine cells, now appears to have a CNS neural origin by RIA and immunohistochemistry. In most species motilin releases neurotransmitters in the CNS to both increase and decrease neural transmission and in the gastrointestinal tract to increase motor activity. In the fasting animal, motilin initiates premature activity fronts of the migrating motor complex (MMC) in the upper gastrointestinal tract by an atropine or tetrodotoxin-sensitive mechanism. Immunoreactive motilin-release from the gut can be correlated with the passage of these fronts through the upper gut. In the dog, the associated events of this MMC, i.e. motor activity of the duodenum extrinsic and intrinsic neural activity and emptying of biliary and pancreatic secretions into the duodenum, all appear to contribute to the peaks in peripheral plasma immunoreactive motilin concentrations. In man, there appears to be a close association of motilin secretion with biliary and pancreatic secretions being emptied into the duodenum and less evidence for motor activity releasing motilin. Only in the dog is there strong evidence for an absolute requirement of motilin for the consolidation of the motor activity of the upper gut into the MMC. In man, the evidence is less convincing although motilin may facilitate the process and in the pig, motilin appears to have little or no role in MMC generation. No pathological consequences of hypermotilemia have been described although elevated motilin levels have been found to be associated with some diarrheal states, renal failure, and in the first week following abdominal surgery. Motilin thus remains a hormone seeking a physiological function in some species and a pathological role in all species.  相似文献

Background Lengthy social separation and prolonged fasting time contribute to increased risks associated with anesthesia in captive primates. This study is an initial attempt to identify a safe pre‐anesthetic fasting procedure by identifying gastric emptying time (GET) and gastrointestinal transit time (GTT) of captive chimpanzees, Pan troglodytes. Methods Seven adult chimpanzees at the North Carolina Zoo immobilized for annual physical examinations were fed barium‐impregnated polyethylene spheres to measure GET. Eleven animals were individually fed a color dye marker and fecal passage was observed to determine GTT. Results Gastric emptying time (GET) was approximated to be >3 hours but <16 hours. The mean GTT was 16.5 hours. Conclusions This study indicates that a fasting time of 3 hours would allow for complete gastric emptying and could potentially replace the current overnight fast (≥16 hour) to help minimize complications associated with pre‐anesthetic fasting in captive primates.  相似文献

Objective

To investigate associations of family-related factors with children’s breakfast consumption and BMI-z-score and to examine whether children’s breakfast consumption mediates associations between family-related factors and children’s BMI-z-score.

Subjects

Ten- to twelve-year-old children (n = 6374; mean age = 11.6±0.7 years, 53.2% girls, mean BMI-z-score = 0.4±1.2) and one of their parents (n = 6374; mean age = 41.4±5.3 years, 82.7% female, mean BMI = 24.5±4.2 kg/m2) were recruited from schools in eight European countries (Belgium, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland). The children self-reported their breakfast frequency per week. The body weight and height of the children were objectively measured. The parents responded to items on family factors related to breakfast (automaticity, availability, encouragement, paying attention, permissiveness, negotiating, communicating health beliefs, parental self-efficacy to address children’s nagging, praising, and family breakfast frequency). Mediation analyses were performed using multi-level regression analyses (child-school-country).

Results

Three of the eleven family-related variables were significantly associated with children’s BMI-z-score. The family breakfast frequency was negatively associated with the BMI-z-score; permissiveness concerning skipping breakfast and negotiating about breakfast were positively associated with the BMI-z-score. Children’s breakfast consumption was found to be a mediator of the two associations. All family-related variables except for negotiating, praising and communicating health beliefs, were significantly associated with children’s breakfast consumption.

Conclusions

Future breakfast promotion and obesity prevention interventions should focus on family-related factors including the physical home environment and parenting practices. Nevertheless, more longitudinal research and intervention studies to support these findings between family-related factors and both children’s breakfast consumption and BMI-z-score are needed.  相似文献

Objective: It has been reported that electrical stimulation at the distal stomach can disrupt intrinsic gastric electrical activity and delay gastric emptying. Gastric dysrhythmia and impaired gastric emptying are associated with upper gastrointestinal symptoms and weight loss. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of low‐frequency/long‐pulse gastric electrical stimulation (GES), at proximal and distal stomach, on canine gastric emptying, food intake, and body weight. Research Methods and Procedures: Eight dogs were surgically implanted with four pairs of electrodes along the greater curvature and a gastric tube at the dependent part of the stomach. Liquid gastric emptying at baseline, during proximal and distal GES at 6 cycles per minute, was assessed first by a dye dilution technique. Proximal and distal GES were then randomly delivered during feeding for 10 consecutive days, and food intake and body weight were recorded daily. Results: There was no significant difference in gastric emptying parameters among the various sessions. The mean daily food consumption was significantly reduced during both sessions of GES, resulting in significant immediate weight loss. Percentage weight loss was comparable between both sessions of GES. Discussion: Short‐term GES significantly reduced canine food intake and weight. This effect may not be related to changes in gastric emptying. GES may have a potential role in the treatment of obesity.  相似文献

Urocortin (Ucn) 1, 2 and 3 are corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF)-related peptides recently characterized in mammals. Urocortin 1 binds with high affinity to CRF type 1 (CRF1) and type 2 (CRF2) receptors while Ucn 2 and Ucn 3 are selective CRF2 ligands. They also have a distinct pattern of distribution, both in the brain and the gastrointestinal tract, compatible with a role mediating, with CRF, the response to stress. In rats and mice, Ucn 1 injected centrally or peripherally inhibited gastric emptying and stimulated colonic propulsive motor function, mimicking the effects of stress or exogenous CRF. Centrally administered Ucn 2 inhibited gastric emptying with similar potency as CRF, while Ucn 1 and Ucn 3 were less potent. However, after peripheral administration, Ucn 1 and Ucn 2 were more potent than CRF. In mice, centrally administered Ucn 1 and 2 stimulated colonic motility with lower potency than CRF, and Ucn 3 was inactive. Studies with selective CRF1 and CRF2 antagonists demonstrated that the gastric-inhibitory and colonic-stimulatory effects of exogenously administered Ucns are mediated through CRF2 and CRF1 receptors, respectively. In addition, Ucn 2 showed visceral anti-nociceptive activity associated with the selective activation of CRF2 receptors. These observations suggest that, acting centrally and peripherally, Ucns might play a significant role in the modulation of gastrointestinal motor and pain responses during stress and stress-related pathophysiological conditions.  相似文献

Unhealthy dietary pattern increases the risk of obesity and metabolic disorders in growing children and adolescents. However, the way the habitual pattern of breakfast consumption influences body composition and risk of obesity in adolescents is not well defined. Thus, the aim of the present study was to assess any associations between breakfast consumption practices and body composition profiles in 236 apparently healthy adolescents aged 12 to 19 years. A self-administered questionnaire on dietary behaviour and lifestyle practices and a dietary food frequency questionnaire were used. Body composition and adiposity indices were determined using standard anthropometric measurement protocols and dual energy χ-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Mean age of the participants was 15.3±1.9 years. The majority of participants (71.2%) fell in the normal body mass index (BMI) ranges. Breakfast consumption patterns showed that only half of the participants (50%) were consuming breakfast daily. Gender-specific multivariate analyses (ANCOVA) showed that in both boys and girls, those eating breakfast at least 5 times a week had significantly lower body weight, body mass index (BMI), BMI z-scores, waist circumference, body fat mass and percent body fat (%BF) compared to infrequent breakfast eaters, after adjustment for age, household income, pubertal status, eating-out and snacking practices, daily energy intakes, and daily physical activity levels. The present findings indicate that infrequent breakfast consumption is associated with higher body adiposity and abdominal obesity. Therefore, daily breakfast consumption with healthy food choices should be encouraged in growing children and adolescents to prevent adiposity during these critical years of growth.  相似文献

Apelin, as the endogenous ligand for the APJ, regulates many biological functions, including blood pressure, neuroendocrine, drinking behavior, food intake and colonic motility. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of central apelin-13 on gastric emptying and gastrointestinal transit in mice. Intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) injection of apelin-13 (3 and 10 μg/mouse) decreased gastric emptying rate by 10.9% and 17.1%. This effect was significantly antagonized by the APJ receptor antagonist apelin-13(F13A) and the opioid receptor antagonist naloxone, respectively. However, intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of apelin-13 (10-100 μg/mouse) did not affect gastric emptying. Apelin-13 (0.3, 1 and 3 μg/mouse, i.c.v.) inhibited gastrointestinal transit by 16.8%, 23.4% and 19.2%. Apelin-13(F13A) and naloxone could also reverse this antitransit effect induced by apelin-13. Taken together, these results suggest that i.c.v. injected apelin-13 inhibits gastric emptying and gastrointestinal transit and it seems that APJ receptor and opioid receptor might be involved in these processes.  相似文献

Gastrointestinal motor effects of corticotropin-releasing factor in mice   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The present investigation examined the effects of centrally and peripherally administered corticotropin-releasing factor on gastric emptying and gastrointestinal transit in mice. Corticotropin-releasing factor, given either intracerebroventricularly or intrathecally, caused a dose-dependent inhibition of gastric emptyping and gastrointestinal transit. Intravenous or intraperitoneal administration of corticotropin-releasing factor, while 5- to 7-fold less potent than after central injection, produced an equivalent level of effect. alpha-Helical corticotropin-releasing factor, a corticotropin-releasing factor receptor antagonist, blocked the effects of intracerebroventricularly administered corticotropin-releasing factor when the antagonist was given concurrently by the intracerebroventricular, but not by the intraperitoneal, route. Conversely, corticotropin-releasing factor, when given peripherally, was antagonized equally well by intracerebroventricular or intraperitoneal administration of the antagonist. The inhibition of gastric emptying induced by corticotropin-releasing factor was reduced by pretreatment with the ganglionic blocking agent, chlorisondamine, and in adrenalectomized mice, but this effect was not antagonized by naloxone. These findings provide evidence for an action of corticotropin-releasing factor within the central nervous system, as well as a peripheral site of action, to inhibit gastric emptying in the mouse. The gastrointestinal motor effects of corticotropin-releasing factor are not mediated through opioid mechanisms although their full expression may require intact autonomic innervation and adrenal function.  相似文献

Background Available data conflict regarding the possible relation between chronic gastritis, Helicohacter pylori (H p), and gastric motor disorders in nonulcer dyspepsia. The aim of this study, therefore, was (1) evaluate both gastroduodenal fasting motility and gastric emptying in subjects with functional dyspepsia, with and without gastritis, and (2) to correlate the motility pattern to H p infection.
Materials and Methods. Thirty-eight patients were studied, 20 positive for Hp infection (15 with gastritis) and 18 Hp-negative (8 with gastritis). All the subjects underwent 240-minute manometric recording of the interdigestive migrating motor complex, with evaluation of gastric and duodenal motility pattern and scintigraphic study of gastric emptying.
Results. Whereas gastric emptying half-times did not differ in the subgroups of dyspeptic patients, a significant reduction of gastric phase 111s of the migrating motor complex was detected between Hp-positive and Hp negative subjects, both in overall patients (p < .01) and in patients with gastritis (p < .05).
Conclusions. Hp infection seems to be related to a reduction of interdigestive gastric activity fronts, though it does not affect gastric emptying. The conflicting data regarding gastric emptying and interdigestive motility in Hp infection could be explained as probably investigating two different functional aspects.  相似文献

Alterations of gastrointestinal (GI) motor function are part of the visceral responses to stress. Inhibition of gastric emptying and stimulation of colonic motor function are the commonly encountered patterns induced by various stressors. Activation of brain corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) receptors mediates stress-related inhibition of upper GI and stimulation of lower GI motor function through interaction with different CRF receptor subtypes. CRF subtype 1 receptors are involved in the colonic and anxiogenic responses to stress and may have clinical relevance in the comorbidity of anxiety/depression and irritable bowel syndrome.  相似文献

The prostaglandins PGF, PGE2 and 16,16-dimethyl PGE2, when administered intravenously, orally, subcutaneously or intraduodenally to laparotomized rats, decreased gastric emptying, small intestinal transit and colonic transit as compared to unoperated controls. All three prostaglandins increased colonic transit above that found with unoperated controls. This activity was independent of small intestinal fluid accumulation (i.e., enteropooling) since ligating the ileal-cecal junction had no effect on colonic transit. Small intestinal transit was increased, but not normalized, by PGE2 and 16,16-dimethyl PGE2. 16,16-Dimethyl PGE2 completely restored gastric emptying when given intravenously to laparotomized rats at doses greater than 5.0 μg/kg. This effect on gastric emptying lasted approximately 4 hrs. Thus, 16,16-dimethyl PGE2, when given intravenously, normalized gastric emptying, significantly increased small intestinal transit, and made the colon hypermotile. Prostaglandins may be beneficial in the treatment of post-operative ileus and other conditions of sluggish gastrointestinal propulsion.  相似文献

Distension and chemosensitization of the stomach are insufficient to induce a ghrelin response, suggesting that postgastric feedback is required. This postgastric feedback may be regulated through insulin. We investigated the relation between gastric emptying rate and the postprandial ghrelin response as well as the role of insulin and other hormones possibly mediating this response. Fifteen healthy men [BMI 21.6 kg/m2 (SD 1.9), age 20.5 yr (SD 2.5)] were studied in a single-blind, crossover design. Subjects received two treatments separated by 1 wk: 1) a dairy breakfast in combination with a 3-h intravenous infusion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which delays gastric emptying, and 2) a dairy breakfast in combination with a 3-h intravenous infusion of saline. Blood samples were drawn before breakfast and during the infusion. Postprandial ghrelin (total) responses were lower following the saline infusion compared with the GLP-1 infusion (P < 0.05). Acetaminophen concentrations, an indirect measurement of gastric emptying rate, were inversely correlated with total ghrelin concentrations (saline r = -0.76; 95% CI = -0.90, -0.49, GLP-1 r = -0.47; 95% CI = -0.76, -0.04). Ghrelin concentrations were only weakly correlated with insulin concentrations (saline r = -0.36; 95% CI = -0.69, 0.09; GLP- 1 r = -0.42; 95% CI = -0.73, 0.03), but strongly inversely correlated with GIP concentrations (saline r = -0.74; 95% CI= -0.89, -0.45; GLP-1 r = -0.63; 95% CI = -0.84, -0.27). In conclusion, our results support the hypothesis that ghrelin requires postgastric feedback, which may not be regulated through insulin. Conversely, our data suggest a role of glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide in ghrelin secretion.  相似文献

Background

Regular breakfast consumption may protect against type 2 diabetes risk in adults but little is known about its influence on type 2 diabetes risk markers in children. We investigated the associations between breakfast consumption (frequency and content) and risk markers for type 2 diabetes (particularly insulin resistance and glycaemia) and cardiovascular disease in children.

Methods and Findings

We conducted a cross-sectional study of 4,116 UK primary school children aged 9–10 years. Participants provided information on breakfast frequency, had measurements of body composition, and gave fasting blood samples for measurements of blood lipids, insulin, glucose, and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c). A subgroup of 2,004 children also completed a 24-hour dietary recall. Among 4,116 children studied, 3,056 (74%) ate breakfast daily, 450 (11%) most days, 372 (9%) some days, and 238 (6%) not usually. Graded associations between breakfast frequency and risk markers were observed; children who reported not usually having breakfast had higher fasting insulin (percent difference 26.4%, 95% CI 16.6%–37.0%), insulin resistance (percent difference 26.7%, 95% CI 17.0%–37.2%), HbA1c (percent difference 1.2%, 95% CI 0.4%–2.0%), glucose (percent difference 1.0%, 95% CI 0.0%–2.0%), and urate (percent difference 6%, 95% CI 3%–10%) than those who reported having breakfast daily; these differences were little affected by adjustment for adiposity, socioeconomic status, and physical activity levels. When the higher levels of triglyceride, systolic blood pressure, and C-reactive protein for those who usually did not eat breakfast relative to those who ate breakfast daily were adjusted for adiposity, the differences were no longer significant. Children eating a high fibre cereal breakfast had lower insulin resistance than those eating other breakfast types (p for heterogeneity <0.01). Differences in nutrient intakes between breakfast frequency groups did not account for the differences in type 2 diabetes markers.

Conclusions

Children who ate breakfast daily, particularly a high fibre cereal breakfast, had a more favourable type 2 diabetes risk profile. Trials are needed to quantify the protective effect of breakfast on emerging type 2 diabetes risk. Please see later in the article for the Editors'' Summary  相似文献

The aims of this study were to investigate gastric motor correlates of vection, a centrally acting stimulus, and relate these responses to the induction of motion sickness symptoms. Antral contractile activity and gastric volume retained after a liquid nutrient meal (600 ml) were assessed by magnetic resonance imaging in healthy subjects during two different protocols. Vection was induced by an optokinetic drum, and subjects repeatedly rated the intensity of vection and nausea on 0-10 analog scales. Vection delayed gastric emptying [99% (89-102%) [median (interquartile ranges)] of volume retained at 28 min; control situation: 79% (69-81%), P < 0.05]. Antral contractile activity followed a distinct time course of rapid decrease [-64% (-72 to -59%) change from baseline activity] immediately after onset of drum rotation followed by gradual recovery upon withdrawal of the stimulus. No relationship was found between the severity of nausea and inhibition of gastric emptying or antral contractile activity. The inhibition of antral contractile activity appears to be a good measure of the peripheral response to vection but is probably independent of subjective symptom induction.  相似文献

Cholecystokinin (CCK) had been the first gastrointestinal hormone known to exert anorexic effects. CCK had been inferred to contribute to the onset of functional dyspepsia (FD) symptoms. To understand the pathophysiology of FD, the roles of stress have to be clarified. In this study, we aimed to clarify the influence of stress on the action of cholecystokinin (CCK) on appetite and gastric emptying. Using rats, stress was simulated by giving restraint stress or intraperitoneal injection of the stress-related peptide hormone urocortin 1 (UCN1). The effects of CCK and restraint stress, alone or in combination, on food intake and gastric motility were examined, and c-Fos expression in the neurons of appetite control network in the central nervous system was assessed by immunohistochemical staining. CCK inhibited food intake and gastric emptying in a dose-dependent manner. Food intake for 1 h was significantly lower with UCN1 (2 nmol/kg) than with the saline control. Restraint stress amplified the suppressive effects of CCK on food intake for 1 h and on gastric emptying. With regard to brain function, the CCK induced c-Fos expression in the neurons of the nucleus tractus solitarius and paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus was markedly and significantly amplified by the addition of restraint stress with CCK. The results suggested that stress might amplify the anorexic effects of CCK through activation of the nuclei that comprise the brain neuronal network for satiation; this might play a role in the pathogenesis of the postprandial distress syndromes of functional dyspepsia.

Although gastrointestinal complications are common in patients with renal disease, the effects of renal dysfunction on bowel motility and gut transit times are not well known. We assessed gastrointestinal electromyographic activity, gastric emptying rate, orocolonic transit time, oroanal transit time, and xylose absorption before and after surgically inducing a 66% decrease in glomerular filtration rate in dogs. Moderate renal failure induced no gross or microscopic gastrointestinal lesions but caused a 16-42% increase in gastrointestinal motility indexes. We found a 24% decrease in the propagation velocity of the myoelectrical migrating complex in the duodenojejunal segment, a 30% decrease in phase I duration in duodenal and jejunal regions, a 20% increase in the total irregular electrical activity of the small intestine, and a 22% increase in duration of the meal response in the duodenum and jejunum. Renal failure did not change xylose absorption, gastric emptying rate, and orocolonic transit time but decreased colonic transit time by 38%. The mean weight of feces was increased. These results indicate that moderate renal failure alters duodenojejunal motility and decreases colonic transit time.  相似文献
