Two new species of the oribatid mite genus Galumnella (Oribatida, Galumnellidae) are described from the Philippines. Galumnella processa sp. n. differs from G. junichiaokii Ermilov, Corpuz-Raros et Shimano, 2014 in a triangular process on the anterior margin of the ventral plate and in smooth bothridial setae. Galumnella quezonensis sp. n. differs from G. cellularis Balogh et Mahunka, 1967 in a larger body and in the presence of bothridial setae with very long and thin apices and of longitudinal ridges in the anogenital region.  相似文献

A previously unknown larva of Protaetia famelica is described and illustrated. The larva of P. famelica is similar to that of P. brevitarsis in the number of posterior epicranial setae and in the presence of anterior frontal setae but differs in the chaetotaxy of the head capsule, in the epipharynx structure, and in the number and position of spinules on the anal sternite. An original key to the known larvae of the genus Protaetia in the fauna of the Russian Far East is given.  相似文献

Three of the five European species of Branchinecta have a disjunct distribution. In this study, we analyze populations of B. ferox and B. orientalis for mitochondrial (cox1) and nuclear (ITS2) molecular markers. We compare intraspecific genetic divergences between geographically distant populations of B. orientalis, from its only known Spanish population (originally described as B. cervantesi) and from a Hungarian population (assigned to B. orientalis since its discovery), with data from two relatively close Iberian populations of B. ferox. Results indicate that isolation between B. ferox and B. orientalis clades is ancient, and that the clade including the two Iberian populations of B. ferox is geographically structured. Conversely, Iberian and Hungarian populations of B. orientalis do not show geographical structure for the mitochondrial fragment. Lack of geographic structure coupled with very low genetic distances indicates that current Iberian and Hungarian populations of B. orientalis originated from a common population stock, and that the time elapsed since their separation has not been long enough to render the clades reciprocally monophyletic. We hypothesize that colonization of the Iberian Peninsula by B. orientalis is probably the consequence of a single recent dispersal event, and consequently we confirm the synonymy between B. cervantesi and B. orientalis.  相似文献

Two new feather mite species of the family Pteronyssidae Oudemans, 1941 collected from birds captured in Ivory Coast are described: Pteronyssoides cyanomitrae n. sp. from Cyanomitra obscura (Jardine) (Passeriformes: Nectariniidae) and Conomerus pygmaeus n. sp. from Hylia prasina (Cassin) (Passeriformes: Macrosphenidae). Pteronyssoides cyanomitrae n. sp. belongs to the nectariniae species group and differs from the closest species, P. garioui Gaud & Mouchet, 1959, in having, in males, the adanal shield present and setae f longer than setae d on the tarsus III; females of this species have the hysteronotal shield with two small median incisions on the anterior margin barely extending beyond the level of setae e2. Conomerus pygmaeus n. sp. is the first species of this genus found on a passerine host, and seems to be more similar to C. sclerosternus Gaud, 1990. This new species has the following distinctive characters: in females, the opisthosoma has small lobe-like extensions and the central sclerite is fused posteriorly with the lateral opisthosomal sclerites; in males, coxal fields I–IV lack large sclerotised areas.  相似文献

Local populations of the black honeybee Apis mellifera mellifera from the Urals and the Volga region were examined in comparison with local populations of southern honeybee subspecies A. m. caucasica and A. m. carpatica from the Caucasus and the Carpathians. Genetic analysis was performed on the basis of the polymorphism of nine microsatellite loci of nuclear DNA and the mtDNA COI–COII locus. On the territory of the Urals and the Volga region, five extant populations (reserves) of the black honeybee A. m. mellifera were identified, including the Burzyanskaya, Tatyshlinskaya, Yuzhno-Prikamskaya, Visherskaya, and Kambarskaya populations. These five populations are the basis of the modern gene pool of the black honeybee A. m. mellifera from the Urals and the Volga region. The greatest proportion of the remaining indigenous gene pool of A. m. mellifera (the core of the gene pool of the population of A. m. mellifera) is distributed over the entire territory of Perm krai and the north of the Republic of Bashkortostan. For the population of A. m. mellifera from the Urals and the Volga region, the genetic standards were calculated, which will be useful for future population studies of honeybees.  相似文献

The black honeybee Apis mellifera mellifera L. is today the only subspecies of honeybee which is suitable for commercial breeding in the climatic conditions of Northern Europe with long cold winters. The main problem of the black honeybee in Russia and European countries is the preservation of the indigenous gene pool purity, which is lost as a result of hybridization with subspecies, A. m. caucasica, A. m. carnica, A. m. carpatica, and A. m. armeniaca, introduced from southern regions. Genetic identification of the subspecies will reduce the extent of hybridization and provide the gene pool conservation of the black honeybee. Modern classification of the honeybee mitotypes is mainly based on the combined use of the DraI restriction endonuclease recognition site polymorphism and sequence polymorphism of the mtDNA COI–COII region. We performed a comparative analysis of the mtDNA COI–COII region sequence polymorphism in the honeybees of the evolutionary lineage M from Ural and West European populations of black honeybee A. m. mellifera and Spanish bee A. m. iberiensis. A new approach to the classification of the honeybee M mitotypes was suggested. Using this approach and on the basis of the seven most informative SNPs of the mtDNA COI–COII region, eight honeybee mitotype groups were identified. In addition, it is suggested that this approach will simplify the previously proposed complicated mitotype classification and will make it possible to assess the level of the mitotype diversity and to identify the mitotypes that are the most valuable for the honeybee breeding and rearing.  相似文献

A new genus, Tologuica, with two species (T. aurorae sp. nov. and T. karhui sp. nov.), from the Middle Miocene of the Sharga locality (western Mongolia) is described. The new genus shares some characters with the extinct genera Palaeocryptonyx, Palaeortyx, and Plioperdix and with extant Coturnix. The foot structure suggests that Tologuica resembled in ecology the European genus Palaeortyx and was probably adapted to an arboreal mode of life, in contrast to the terrestrial Coturnix and Plioperdix.  相似文献

The Agave angustifolia complex, distributed from Mexico to Costa Rica, comprises four species and five varieties, including three species used for mescal production. The complex is represented in the Mexican state of Oaxaca by two wild taxa, A. angustifolia var. angustifolia and A. angustifolia var. rubescens, the cultivated form A. angustifolia “Espadín” and the partially cultivated species A. rodacantha. The aims of this study were to investigate the morphological and genetic variation of the A. angustifolia complex in the state of Oaxaca and to identify traits useful for taxonomic delimitation. Four wild and three cultivated populations of A. angustifolia from Oaxaca, one population of A. tequilana from Guanajuato and one population of A. angustifolia from Sonora were sampled for morphological, genetic and cytometric analyses. We showed that cultivated populations of A. angustifolia “Espadin,” A. rhodacantha and A. tequilana could be clearly differentiated from wild populations. Furthermore, the domesticated populations of A. angustifolia, known locally as “Espadin,” had a higher ploidy level and lower genetic variation than their related wild populations. The population of A. angustifolia from Sonora could be recognized as a different entity. Populations of A. rhodacantha need to be studied throughout their entire distribution area to further evaluate their taxonomic delimitation.  相似文献

A new oribatid mite species of the genus Benoibates (Oribatida, Oripodidae) is described from Antigua Island. Benoibates antiguaensis sp. n. differs from B. muscicola Baranek 1981 in shorter adanal and notogastral setae and in spiniform anal setae. Benoibates crinitus (Berlese 1910) is redescribed from the USA, based on the topotypes.  相似文献

The Caucasus region is one of the 25 global biodiversity hotspots and constitutes a shelter area for Neogene relict species as well as a center of ongoing radiation. In order to elucidate the taxonomic identity, divergence patterns, and evolutionary history of the largely widespread Georgian durmast oak (Quercus petraea subsp. iberica), we examined leaf morphology and chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) (trnH-psbA, trnK-matK) sequence variation across its South Caucasian range. Six other oak taxa distributed throughout Georgia were included in the dataset and used for comparison. Evidence for differentiation in both sets of traits was found. Populations represented by different taxa from ecologically equivalent areas showed common morphological features and genetic structures. Molecular analysis clearly indicated the presence of two major haplotype lineages (West Caucasian vs. East Caucasian zonation type) and suggested a maternal lineage diversification of Q. petraea subsp. iberica in the Late Miocene, as a likely result of complex patterns associated with major orogenic and climatic changes. The Quaternary glacial oscillations resulted in a number of less common, derived haplotypes. Based on mismatch distribution analysis and neutrality tests, we found no evidence of demographic expansion for the populations from the West and East Caucasian zonation types. The two Caucasian provinces therefore acted as important shelter/diversification areas and as a lineage crossroad for the Georgian oaks. Close intra- and interspecific cpDNA relationships shared with other oaks from bordering countries support the relevant role played by the Colchis region as a primary refugium for the European temperate forest species.  相似文献

Two new species of the oribatid mite superfamily Trizetoidea (Acari, Oribatida) are described from Peru. Rhynchoribates (Rhynchoribatodes) rioyuyapichisensis Ermilov, sp. n. differs from the other species of the subgenus by the long flagelliform notogastral setae. Rhynchoppia puertoincaensis Ermilov, sp. n. is morphologically similar to R. capillata (Balogh, 1963), but differs by the shape and in a greater number of rostral teeth, in the number and a smaller length of notogastral setae, and in the number of genital setae. The genus Rhynchoppia (Balogh 1968) is recorded from the Neotropical Region for the first time, while Rhynchoribates (Rhynchoribatodes) brasiliensis Woas 1986 is new to the fauna of Peru.  相似文献

Variation of the 838-bp fragment of the mitochondrial cytb gene was analyzed in Sylvaemus uralensis from the northern macroslope of the Western Caucasus. On the basis of two fixed nonsynonymous substitutions, cytb sequences of the population sample studied can be considered as a distinct Lago-Naki haplogroup, which is clustered in the European cytb lineage. As estimated on the basis of the known rate of substitutions per third codon position in S. sylvaticus, the population must have been isolated for all or a part of the last glaciation period (10000 to 100000 years ago). The observed differentiation of cytb haplotypes is indicative of the refugial distribution of S. uralensis in the northern macroslope of the Western Caucasus, as well as of a secondary contact between the Caucasian and the Russian Plain populations during the Holocene.  相似文献

Most perennial herbaceous plants are able to reproduce vegetatively as well as sexually. Sometimes, such plants may lose the capacity for sexual reproduction. We have studied the case of sterility in triploid populations (2n = 3x = 45) of Gladiolus tenuis M.Bieb. in a considerable part of its area of distribution. Initially, we recorded the presence of a large clone of G. tenuis to the east of the Volga River, as a result of isozyme analysis. We also used AFLP fingerprinting to genotype 55 samples from 10 populations of G. tenuis and one population of the closely related G. imbricutus L. This analysis revealed an extremely low genetic diversity in sterile triploid populations of G. tenuis and a rather high genetic diversity in fertile tetraploid populations (2n = 4x = 60) over most of the area of this species. Genetic distances between fertile and sterile populations of G. tenuis were similar to those between different species of gladioli. It appears that a single sterile genotype has spread vegetatively over 800 km, propagating by daughter corms. The study of the reproductive features of G. tenuis suggests that the cause of sterility may be self-incompatibility between individuals of the clone.  相似文献

Background

The roe deer, Capreolus sp., is one of the most widespread meso-mammals of Palearctic distribution, and includes two species, the European roe deer, C. capreolus inhabiting mainly Europe, and the Siberian roe deer, C. pygargus, distributed throughout continental Asia. Although there are a number of genetic studies concerning European roe deer, the Siberian roe deer has been studied less, and none of these studies use microsatellite markers. Natural processes have led to genetic structuring in wild populations. To understand how these factors have affected genetic structure and connectivity of Siberian roe deer, we investigated variability at 12 microsatellite loci for Siberian roe deer from ten localities in Asia.

Results

Moderate levels of genetic diversity (H E = 0.522 to 0.628) were found in all populations except in Jeju Island, South Korea, where the diversity was lowest?(H E?= 0.386). Western populations showed relatively low genetic diversity and higher degrees of genetic differentiation compared with eastern populations (mean Ar = 3.54 (east), 2.81 (west), mean F ST = 0.122). Bayesian-based clustering analysis revealed the existence of three genetically distinct groups (clusters) for Siberian roe deer, which comprise of the Southeastern group (Mainland Korea, Russian Far East, Trans-Baikal region and Northern part of Mongolia), Northwestern group (Western Siberia and Ural in Russia) and Jeju Island population. Genetic analyses including AMOVA (F RT = 0.200), Barrier and PCA also supported genetic differentiation among regions separated primarily by major mountain ridges, suggesting that mountains played a role in the genetic differentiation of Siberian roe deer. On the other hand, genetic evidence also suggests an ongoing migration that may facilitate genetic admixture at the border areas between two groups.

Conclusions

Our results reveal an apparent pattern of genetic differentiation among populations inhabiting Asia, showing moderate levels of genetic diversity with an east-west gradient. The results suggest at least three distinct management units of roe deer in continental Asia, although genetic admixture is evident in some border areas. The insights obtained from this study shed light on management of Siberian roe deer in Asia and may be applied in conservation of local populations of Siberian roe deer.

It is assumed that daphnids adjust the filter screen morphology in order to minimize the interference with cyanobacterial filaments. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of filamentous cyanobacteria (Aphanizomenon gracile Lemmermann, Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii Woloszynska Seenaya et Subba Raju) on the thickness and length of setae of the third pair of thoracic limbs of Daphnia magna. The second objective was to assess whether the setae modifications could improve the performance of daphnids in the presence of cyanobacteria. Three clones of Daphnia magna Straus were cultured with: green algae; green algae with filaments of Cylindrospermopsis; and green algae with filaments of Aphanizomenon. The size and age of animals in the first reproduction cycle as well as the number of offspring were recorded. Setae thickness and length were measured in the central part of each endopodite. Additionally, we analyzed how the changes in setae morphology affect the fitness of experimental animals using the intrinsic rate of population increase calculated with the Euler–Lotka equation. The results showed that the thickness and length of setae increased in the presence of filamentous cyanobacteria. Moreover, cyanobacteria-induced setae thickening was positively correlated to the fitness of daphnids, which may indicate setae thickening as a phenotypic adaptation to cope with food stress caused by filamentous cyanobacteria.  相似文献

Extractive foraging in nonhuman primates may involve different levels of technical complexity in terms of the number of actions that must be performed and the manual dexterity involved. We describe the extractive foraging of caterpillars in wild northern pig-tailed macaques (Macaca leonina) at Khao Yai National Park, Thailand. The study group, observed from May to December 2016 (n = 146 days), comprised 60–70 habituated individuals, including 3–4 adult males, 20–23 adult females, and 36–47 immatures. Four adult males and five adult females, observed from September to November 2016 for a total of 24 days, were selected for focal animal sampling. Northern pig-tailed macaques were observed eating at least two families (Erebidae and Limacodidae) and three genera (Macrobrochis sp., Phlossa sp. and Scopelodes sp.) of caterpillars. While the monkeys ate short and small caterpillars with stinging setae and non-setae caterpillars without processing, they performed extensive caterpillar-rubbing behavior on large and long caterpillars with stinging setae. Based on 61 extractive foraging bouts, we found that caterpillar rubbing was hierarchically organized into five stages and 12 elements. Five stages of behavior sequence started with picking the caterpillar up, transporting it to a substrate, rubbing it to remove stinging setae, ingesting it, and then cleaning hands and mouth. Only adult macaques were observed using a leaf to rub stinging caterpillars.  相似文献

Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes are excellent markers for the study of adaptive genetic variation occurring over different geographical scales. The Chinese egret (Egretta eulophotes) is a vulnerable ardeid species with an estimated global population of 2600–3400 individuals. In this study, we sampled 172 individuals of this egret (approximately 6 % of the global population) from five natural populations that span the entire distribution range of this species in China. We examined their population genetic diversity and geographical differentiation at three MHC class II DAB genes by identifying eight exon 2 alleles at Egeu-DAB1, eight at Egeu-DAB2 and four at Egeu-DAB3. Allelic distributions at each of these three Egeu-DAB loci varied substantially within the five populations, while levels of genetic diversity varied slightly among the populations. Analysis of molecular variance showed low but significant genetic differentiation among five populations at all three Egeu-DAB loci (haplotype-based ?ST: 0.029, 0.020 and 0.042; and distance-based ?ST: 0.036, 0.027 and 0.043, respectively; all P < 0.01). The Mantel test suggested that this significant population genetic differentiation was likely due to an isolation-by-distance pattern of MHC evolution. However, the phylogenetic analyses and the Bayesian clustering analysis based on the three Egeu-DAB loci indicated that there was little geographical structuring of the genetic differentiation among five populations. These results provide fundamental population information for the conservation genetics of the vulnerable Chinese egret.  相似文献
