A catalogue of the nominal species of the monogenean genus Dactylogyrus Diesing, 1850 and their host genera

Dactylogyrus is the largest helminth genus, with more than 900 nominal species, and is consequently in a state of considerable confusion. In an attempt to consolidate our knowledge of this large taxon, this work surveys the nominal species and catalogues them and their hosts (to the generic level) in the form of a species list which is cross-referenced to host-parasite list. A reference list to the authorities for the taxa is included.     

A Check-List of the Species of the Genus Leucocytozoon (Apicomplexa,Plasmodiidae)*

SYNOPSIS. A list is given of 67 named species of Leucocytozoon considered valid at present. Another list is given of 1 reptilian and 146 avian hosts of named species of Leucocytozoon. A 3rd list is given of 34 synonyms. Leucocytozoon has been named from about 0.7% of the approximately 8600 species of birds that exist. The following new taxonomic names are included: L. danilewskyi var. hirundinis Sergent & Sergent, 1905 is emended to L. hirundinis; Saurocytozoon tupinambi Lainson & Shaw, 1969 is changed to Leucocytozoon (Saurocytozoon) tupinambi (Lainson & Shaw, 1969).     

New genus and species of flea beetles (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Galerucinae, Alticini) from Puerto Rico, with comments on flea beetle diversity in the West Indies and a key to the West Indian Monoplatini genera

A new genus (Borinken) and five new species (Borinken elyunque, Distigmoptera chamorrae, Kiskeya elyunque, Ulrica eltoro, and Ulrica iviei) from Puerto Rico are described and illustrated. A keyto all West Indian Monoplatini genera is provided, as are keys to all speciesof Kiskeya and to the speciesof Ulrica from Puerto Rico. A list of the flea beetle genera, along with the number of species and some of the faunal features is presented and discussed for the West Indies.     

List of the type species of Ceratopogonidae (Diptera, Nematocera) deposited in the Entomological Collection of Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil]

A list of all type specimens of the Family Ceratopogonidae, present in the Entomological Collection of Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil is presented. This list includes the genera Bahiahelea, Culicoides, Dasyhelea, Downeshelea, Forcipomyia, Leptoconops, Mallochohelea, Monohelea, Neobezzia, Palpomyia and Sphaerohelea.     

Crassulacean Acid Metabolism 1975–2000, a Check List

A list of plant species documented over the past 25 years to exhibit Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) is presented. The list compiles all available information on these species including their growth habits, succulent parts, carbon isotope discrimination values, CAM types, CAM inducers, and CAM modifications.     

Waiting list for nursing home admission gives limited insight of the problems. Study in handling of the waiting list and the consequences for the patients

The waiting list for nursing home admission is expected to remain unacceptably long. A study of the use and of possibly problematic consequences of the waiting list was described in a thesis. Despite long mean waiting periods and many problems (depressive symptoms, experiences of burden) already at the start of the waiting period, the majority of the informal caregivers were satisfied with the waiting times. This may be explained by a reticence to nursing home admission and by enlistment to the waiting list "out of precaution". Both a long and a short waiting period could be experienced as too long. Waiting list figures give insufficient insight in the "real" demand for nursing home care and in problematic waiting periods.     

Annotated catalogue of the Haliplidae of China with the description of a new species and new records from China (Coleoptera, Adephaga)

A revised checklist of Haliplidae (Coleoptera: Adephaga) of China is presented. A new species Haliplus (Haliplus) latreilleisp. n. is described from Guizhou, China. Three species, Haliplus (Haliplidius) confinis Stephens, Haliplus (Haliplus) ruficollis (De Geer) and Haliplus (Haliplus) sibricus Motschulsky are reported from China for the first time. Haliplus dalmatinus Müller is excluded from the list of Chinese species. A number of new provincial records from China is presented.     

A nomenclator of extant and fossil taxa of the Valvatidae (Gastropoda,Ectobranchia)

A compilation of all supra- and (infra-) specific taxa of extant and fossil Valvatidae, a group of freshwater operculate snails, is provided, including taxa initially described in this family and subsequently classified in other families, as well as names containing errors or misspellings. The extensive reference list is directly linked to the available electronic source (digital view or pdf-download) of the respective papers.     

Additional records and notes for Wheeler's (1992) List of the Common and Scientific Names of Fishes of the British Isles

This paper compiles information new to an earlier list published in 1992. Most changes are (1) additions largely resulting from importation of freshwater species, (2) range extensions of neritic and oceanic epipelagic species, together with (3) the incidental capture of species from within the 200 m bathymetric limit of resident deep pelagic and demersal deep‐sea representatives. A list of such species with the potential to stray from residence in the deeper strata of the oceanic region to shelf waters (<200 m) is presented in appendices.

A list of 67 species group taxa of longhorned beetles described by B.E. Jakovlev with data on their types and nomenclatorial history is presented.     

Data on the flora of bacillariophyta of Lake Shira (Khakassia,Russia)

This article deals with the results of the study of diatom algae of Lake Shira. The list of found algae contains 95 species (126, including infraspecific taxa). A brief ecological and geographical analysis of the algal flora is made.     

An annotated checklist of the planthoppers of Iran (Hemiptera, Auchenorrhyncha, Fulgoromorpha) with distribution data

A list of Hemiptera Fulgoromorpha (planthoppers) of Iran is provided, based primarily on literature records from 1902 to the present. In total 15 families and 235 species are recorded, with taxonomic details. Distribution data in Iran are given. Iranissus ephedrinus Dlabola, 1980 is transferred from Issidae to Nogodinidae. To resolve nomenclatural difficulty the following new combinations in Issidae are given: Iranodus dumetorus (Dlabola, 1981), Iranodus khatunus (Dlabola, 1981) and Iranodus repandus (Dlabola, 1981). Due to published generic synonomy the following are new combinations: Duilius seticulosus (Lethierry, 1874), Duilius tamaricis (Puton & Lethierry, 1887), Duilius tamaricicola (Dubovsky, 1966) and Duilius v-atrum (Dlabola, 1985).     

The bicarbonate effect,oxygen evolution,and the shadow of Otto Warburg

A short list of the twentieth century's dominant figures in photosynthesis would unquestionably include Otto Warburg. One of his many discoveries, the `bicarbonate effect' remains a lasting puzzle to his heirs in the field. Recent developments in this area of research have renewed interest and call for a re-examination of the ideas surrounding this controversial topic. Focus here will be on hypotheses developed by a small number of researchers who proposed that bicarbonate may be involved in oxygen evolution. The effect of bicarbonate on the acceptor side of Photosystem II (PS II) is discussed by Jack van Rensen (in this issue). Anisoloboides joliveti n. g., n. sp. (Apicomplexa,Eugregarina, Gregarinidae), parasite of Brachyomus histrio Faust (Coleoptera,Curculionidae), with remarks on the other gregarines from the Curculionidae

The creation of a new genus of Eugregarina, Anisoloboides n. g., is proposed to accommodate the gregarines from the Curculionidae (Coleoptera) belonging to the subfamily Brachycerinae and the tribe Entimini and formerly described as Anisolobus (A. bulliardi, A. gymnopholi, A. desportis). A fourth species, A. joliveti n. sp. is described from another curculionid, Brachyomus histrio Faust, from Venezuela, and a list is presented of the other gregarines (Gregarina, Hirmocystis, Steinina) recorded from the Curculionidae.     

Fauna of Sponges (Porifera) of Peter the Great Bay,Sea of Japan

A complete list of sponges of Peter the Great Bay (northwestern Sea of Japan) is presented comprising 40 species belonging to 27 genera, 19 families, 9 orders, and 2 classes. A synopsis of the genus Mysidopsis (Mysidacea, Crustacea) with a key for the identification of its known species and descriptions of two new species from South African waters

A list of the species now included in the genus is given with notes of their geographical distribution and (where possible) details of their ecology and a key for their identification. An amended diagnosis of the genus is given to include two new species, hitherto unnamed and known only from damaged and inadequate material, which are now named and fully described and figured.     

Contributions to the knowledge of the Noctuoidea (Lepidoptera) of the Republic of Belarus

The paper contains a detailed overview of the history of Noctuoidea study in Belarus since the middle of the XIX century. Critical analysis of the Noctuoidea species list in the Catalogue of Lepidoptera of Belarus (Merzheyevskaya et al., 1976) is made. A list of species missing from this catalogue but recorded in preceding publications is compiled, supplemented with records of the species found in Belarus after publication of the catalogue. Data on the examined material for 19 species new to the fauna of Belarus are given.
