The authors present efficient all‐polymer solar cells comprising two different low‐bandgap naphthalenediimide (NDI)‐based copolymers as acceptors and regioregular P3HT as the donor. It is shown that these naphthalene copolymers have a strong tendency to preaggregate in specific organic solvents, and that preaggregation can be completely suppressed when using suitable solvents with large and highly polarizable aromatic cores. Organic solar cells prepared from such nonaggregated polymer solutions show dramatically increased power conversion efficiencies of up to 1.4%, which is mainly due to a large increase of the short circuit current. In addition, optimized solar cells show remarkable high fill factors of up to 70%. The analysis of the blend absorbance spectra reveals a surprising anticorrelation between the degree of polymer aggregation in the solid P3HT:NDI copolymer blends and their photovoltaic performance. Scanning near‐field optical microscopy (SNOM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements reveal important information on the blend morphology. It is shown that films with high degree of aggregation and low photocurrents exhibit large‐scale phase‐separation into rather pure donor and acceptor domains. It is proposed that, by suppressing the aggregation of NDI copolymers at the early stage of film formation, the intermixing of the donor and acceptor component is improved, thereby allowing efficient harvesting of photogenerated excitons at the donor–acceptor heterojunction.  相似文献

To explore the advantages of emerging all‐polymer solar cells (all‐PSCs), growing efforts have been devoted to developing matched donor and acceptor polymers to outperform fullerene‐based PSCs. In this work, a detailed characterization and comparison of all‐PSCs using a set of donor and acceptor polymers with both conventional and inverted device structures is performed. A simple method to quantify the actual composition and light harvesting contributions from the individual donor and acceptor is described. Detailed study on the exciton dissociation and charge recombination is carried out by a set of measurements to understand the photocurrent loss. It is unraveled that fine‐tuned crystallinity of the acceptor, matched donor and acceptor with complementary absorption and desired energy levels, and device architecture engineering can synergistically boost the performance of all‐PSCs. As expected, the PBDTTS‐FTAZ:PNDI‐T10 all‐PSC attains a high and stable power conversion efficiency of 6.9% without obvious efficiency decay in 60 d. This work demonstrates that PNDI‐T10 can be a potential alternative acceptor polymer to the widely used acceptor N2200 for high‐performance and stable all‐PSCs.  相似文献

A series of PBDB‐TTn random donor copolymers is synthesized, consisting of an electron‐deficient benzo[1,2‐c:4,5‐c′]dithiophene‐4,8‐dione (BDD) unit and different ratios of two electron‐rich benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene (BDT) and thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene (TT) units, with intention to modulate the intrachain and/or interchain interactions and ultimately bulk‐heterojunction morphology evolution. A comparative study using 4 × 2 polymer solar cell (PSC) performance maps and each of the [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) and the fused‐aromatic‐ring‐based molecule (m‐ITIC) acceptors are carried out. Given the similarities in their absorption ranges and energy levels, the PBDB‐TTn copolymers clearly reveal a change in the absorption coefficients upon optimization of the BDT to TT ratio in the backbone. Among the given acceptor combination sets, superior performances are observed in the case of PBDB‐TT5 blended with PC71BM (8.34 ± 0.10%) or m‐ITIC (11.10 ± 0.08%), and the dominant factors causing power conversion efficiency differences in them are found to be distinctly different. For example, the performances of PC71BM‐based PSCs are governed by size and population of face‐on crystallites, while intermixed morphology without the formation of large phase‐separated aggregates is the key factor for achieving high‐performance m‐ITIC‐based PSCs. This study presents a new sketch of structure–morphology–performance relationships for fullerene‐ versus nonfullerene‐based PSCs.  相似文献

High‐performance perovskite solar cells (PVSCs) with absorber layer thickness insensitive features are important for practical fabrication, however these features are difficult to be realized. There are very few reports of the fabrication of polycrystalline PVSCs with power conversion efficienies (PCE) insensitive to film thickness beyond 600 nm. The main reason lies in more serious recombination of the thick perovskite layer compared to the thin layer. Herein, this challenge is addressed by a simple hot casting method to formulate high‐quality perovskite film with enlarged grain size, high carrier mobility, and reduced defects. It is found that increasing the temperature to 70 °C can dramatically increase the film thickness and enlarge the perovskite crystal, therefore boost the efficiency from ≈16% to ≈19%. Notably, a record PCE of 19.54% is achieved with 850 nm thick perovskite film, which is among the highest efficiency for thick‐film PVSCs. The PCE remains steady around 19% when modifying the perovskite layer from 700 to 1150 nm. Moreover, these thick‐film PVSCs show good stability with 80% of its initial efficiency after 30 d in air with a humidity of 50%. Overall, this simple yet effective method has a great potential in the mass manufacture of PVSCs.  相似文献

Tandem structure provides a practical way to realize high efficiency organic photovoltaic cells, it can be used to extend the wavelength coverage for light harvesting. The interconnecting layer (ICL) between subcells plays a critical role in the reproducibility and performance of tandem solar cells, yet the processability of the ICL has been a challenge. In this work the fabrication of highly reproducible and efficient tandem solar cells by employing a commercially available material, PEDOT:PSS HTL Solar (HSolar), as the hole transporting material used for the ICL is reported. Comparing with the conventional PEDOT:PSS Al 4083 (c‐PEDOT), HSolar offers a better wettability on the underlying nonfullerene photoactive layers, resulting in better charge extraction properties of the ICL. When FTAZ:IT‐M and PTB7‐Th:IEICO‐4F are used as the subcells, a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.7% is achieved in the tandem solar cell. To validate the processability of these tandem solar cells, three other research groups have successfully fabricated tandem devices using the same recipe and the highest PCE obtained is 16.1%. With further development of donor polymers and device optimization, the device simulation results show that a PCE > 22% can be realized in tandem cells in the near future.  相似文献

The commercially available PM6 as donor materials are used widely in highly efficient nonfullerene polymer solar cells (PSCs). In this work, different concentrations of iridium (Ir) complexes (0, 0.5, 1, 2.5, and 5 mol%) are incorporated carefully into the polymer conjugated backbone of PM6 (PM6‐Ir0), and a set of π‐conjugated polymer donors (named PM6‐Ir0.5, PM6‐Ir1, PM6‐Ir2.5, and PM6‐Ir5) are synthesized and characterized. It is demonstrated that the approach can rationally modify the molecular aggregations of polymer donors, effectively controlling the corresponding blend morphology and physical mechanisms, and finally improve the photovoltaic performance of the PM6‐Irx‐based PSCs. Among them, the best device based on PM6‐Ir1:Y6 (1:1.2, w/w) exhibits outstanding power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 17.24% tested at Wuhan University and 17.32% tested at Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as a certified PCE of 16.70%, which are much higher than that of the control device based on the PM6‐Ir0:Y6 blend (15.39%). This work affords an effective approach for further break through the reported champion PCE of the binary PSCs.  相似文献

Highly efficient tandem and semitransparent (ST) polymer solar cells utilizing the same donor polymer blended with [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) as active layers are demonstrated. A high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.5% and a record high open‐circuit voltage of 1.71 V are achieved for a tandem cell based on a medium bandgap polymer poly(indacenodithiophene‐co‐phananthrene‐quinoxaline) (PIDT‐phanQ). In addition, this approach can also be applied to a low bandgap polymer poly[2,6‐(4,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)‐4H‐cyclopenta[2,1‐b;3,4‐b′]dithiophene)‐alt‐4,7‐(5‐fluoro‐2,1,3‐benzothia‐diazole)] (PCPDTFBT), and PCEs up to 7.9% are achieved. Due to the very thin total active layer thickness, a highly efficient ST tandem cell based on PIDT‐phanQ exhibits a high PCE of 7.4%, which is the highest value reported to date for a ST solar cell. The ST device also possesses a desirable average visible transmittance (≈40%) and an excellent color rendering index (≈100), permitting its use in power‐generating window applications.  相似文献

Understanding the morphology of polymer‐based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells is necessary to improve device efficiencies. Blends of a low‐bandgap silole‐containing conjugated polymer, poly[(4,4′‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)dithieno[3,2‐b;2′,3′‐d]silole)‐2,6‐diyl‐alt‐(4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole)‐5,5′‐diyl] (PSBTBT) with [6,6]phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were investigated under different processing conditions. The surface morphologies and vertical segregation of the “As‐Spun”, “Pre‐Annealed”, and “Post‐Annealed” films were studied by scanning force microscopy, contact angle measurements, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, near‐edge X‐ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy, dynamic secondary ion mass spectrometry, and neutron reflectivity. The results showed that PSBTBT was enriched at the cathode interface in the “As‐Spun” films and thermal annealing increased the segregation of PSBTBT to the free surface, while thermal annealing after deposition of the cathode increased the PCBM concentration at the cathode interface. Grazing‐incidence X‐ray diffraction and small‐angle neutron scattering showed that the crystallization of PSBTBT and segregation of PCBM occurred during spin coating, and thermal annealing increased the ordering of PSBTBT and enhanced the segregation of the PCBM, forming domains ~10 nm in size, leading to an improvement in photovoltaic performance.  相似文献

A high electron mobility polymer, poly{[N,N’‐bis(2‐octyldodecyl)‐naphthalene‐1,4,5,8‐bis(dicarboximide)‐2,6‐diyl]‐alt‐5,5’‐(2,2’‐bithiophene) (P(NDI2OD‐T2)) is investigated for use as an electron acceptor in all‐polymer blends. Despite the high bulk electron mobility, near‐infrared absorption band and compatible energy levels, bulk heterojunction devices fabricated with poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) as the electron donor exhibit power conversion efficiencies of only 0.2%. In order to understand this disappointing photovoltaic performance, systematic investigations of the photophysics, device physics and morphology of this system are performed. Ultra‐fast transient absorption spectroscopy reveals a two‐stage decay process with an initial rapid loss of photoinduced polarons, followed by a second slower decay. This second slower decay is similar to what is observed for efficient P3HT:PCBM ([6,6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester) blends, however the initial fast decay that is absent in P3HT:PCBM blends suggests rapid, geminate recombination of charge pairs shortly after charge transfer. X‐ray microscopy reveals coarse phase separation of P3HT:P(NDI2OD‐T2) blends with domains of size 0.2 to 1 micrometer. P3HT photoluminescence, however, is still found to be efficiently quenched indicating intermixing within these mesoscale domains. This hierarchy of phase separation is consistent with the transient absorption, whereby localized confinement of charges on isolated chains in the matrix of the other polymer hinders the separation of interfacial electron‐hole pairs. These results indicate that local, interfacial processes are the key factor determining the overall efficiency of this system and highlight the need for improved morphological control in order for the potential benefit of high‐mobility electron accepting polymers to be realized.  相似文献

The temperature‐dependent aggregation behavior of PffBT4T polymers used in organic solar cells plays a critical role in the formation of a favorable morphology in fullerene‐based devices. However, there is little investigation into the impact of donor/acceptor ratio on morphology tuning, especially for nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs). Herein, the influence of composition on morphology is reported for blends of PffBT4T‐2DT with two NFAs, O‐IDTBR and O‐IDFBR. The monotectic phase behavior inferred from differential scanning calorimetry provides qualitative insight into the interplay between solid–liquid and liquid–liquid demixing. Transient absorption spectroscopy suggests that geminate recombination dominates charge decay and that the decay rate is insensitive to composition, corroborated by negligible changes in open‐circuit voltage. Exciton lifetimes are also insensitive to composition, which is attributed to the signal being dominated by acceptor excitons which are formed and decay in domains of similar size and purity irrespective of composition. A hierarchical morphology is observed, where the composition dependence of size scales and scattering intensity from resonant soft X‐ray scattering (R‐SoXS) is dominated by variations in volume fractions of polymer/polymer‐rich domains. Results suggest an optimal morphology where polymer crystallite size and connectivity are balanced, ensuring a high probability of hole extraction via such domains.  相似文献

With the advances in organic photovoltaics (OPVs), the invention of model polymers with superior properties and wide applicability is of vital importance to both the academic and industrial communities. The recent inspiring advances in OPV research have included the emergence of poly(benzodithiophene‐co‐thieno[3,4‐b]thiophene) (PBDTTT)‐based materials. Through the combined efforts on PBDTTT polymers, over 10% efficiencies have been realized recently in various types of OPV devices. This review attempts to critically summarize the recent advances with respect to five well‐known PBDTTT polymers and their design considerations, basic properties, photovoltaic performance, as well as device application in conventional, inverted, tandem solar cells. These PBDTTT polymers also make great contributions to the rapid advances in the field of emerging ternary blends and fullerene‐free OPVs with top performances. Addtionally, new challenges in developing novel photovoltaic polymers with more superior properties are prospected. More importantly, the research of highly efficient PBDTTT‐based polymers provides useful insights and builds fundamentals for new types of OPV applications with various architectures.  相似文献

Polymer aggregation plays a critical role in the miscibility of materials and the performance of all‐polymer solar cells (APSCs). However, many aspects of how polymer texturing and aggregation affect photoactive blend film microstructure and photovoltaic performance are poorly understood. Here the effects of aggregation in donor–acceptor blends are studied, in which the number‐average molecular weights (Mns) of both an amorphous donor polymer, poly[4,8‐bis(5‐(2‐ethylhexyl)thiophen‐2‐yl)benzo[1,2‐b;4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐2,6‐diyl‐alt‐(4‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3‐fluorothieno[3,4‐b]thiophene‐)‐2‐carboxylate‐2‐6‐diyl)] ( PBDTT‐FTTE ) and a semicrystalline acceptor polymer, poly{[N,N′‐bis(2‐octyldodecyl)naphthalene‐1,4,5,8‐bis(dicarboximide)‐2,6‐diyl]‐alt‐5,5′‐(2,2′‐bithiophene)} ( P(NDI2OD‐T2) ) are systematically varied. The photovoltaic performance is correlated with active layer microstructural and optoelectronic data acquired by in‐depth transmission electron microscopy, grazing incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering, thermal analysis, and optical spectroscopic measurements. Coarse‐grained modeling provides insight into the effects of polymer aggregation on the blend morphology. Notably, the computed average distance between the donor and the acceptor polymers correlates well with solar cell photovoltaic metrics such as short‐circuit current density (Jsc) and represents a useful index for understanding/predicting active layer blend material intermixing trends. Importantly, these results demonstrate that for polymers with different texturing tendencies (amorphous/semicrystalline), the key for optimal APSC performance, photovoltaic blend morphology can be controlled via both donor and acceptor polymer aggregation.  相似文献
