Recently great progress has been achieved in highly effective hybrid solar cells fabricated using aqueous materials. The state‐of‐the‐art energy conversion efficiency has been close to 5% with high photocurrent. However, charge separation and transport mechanism in the aqueous‐processed hybrid solar cells are rarely reported and are usually assumed to be similar to oil‐phase processed systems; that is, self‐assembly polymers are mainly responsible for charge separation and carrier transport. To date, this assumption has prohibited further improvement of the conversion efficiency in aqueous‐processed hybrid systems by adopting any appropriate technique routes. Here, ultrafast carrier dynamics in these hybrid solar cells consisting of poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV)‐based aqueous polymers and water‐solution CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) are investigated in detail. Self‐charge separation in grown CdTe NC partly capped CdS shell layers after anneal treatment is unambiguously identified. Different from their oil‐soluble counterparts, these core/shell nanocrystals do not have the restrictions of quantum confinement and surface ligands, form effective charge transport networks, and play a dominant role in the charge separation and carrier transport processes. These findings provide a greater understanding on the fundamental photophysics in aqueous‐processed hybrid systems.  相似文献

Efficient conventional bulk heterojunction (BHJ) perovskite hybrid solar cells (pero‐HSCs) solution‐processed from a composite of CH3NH3PbI3 mixed with PC61BM ([6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester), where CH3NH3PbI3 acts as the electron donor and PC61BM acts as the electron acceptor, are reported for the first time. The efficiency of 12.78% is twofold enhancement in comparison with the conventional planar heterojunction pero‐HSCs (6.90%) fabricated by pristine CH3NH3PbI3. The BHJ pero‐HSCs are further optimized by using PC61BM/TiO2 bi‐electron‐extraction‐layer (EEL), which are both solution‐processed and then followed with low‐temperature thermal annealing. Due to higher electrical conductivity of PC61BM over that of TiO2, an efficiency of 14.98%, the highest reported efficiency for the pero‐HSCs without incorporating high‐temperature‐processed mesoporous TiO2 and Al2O3 as the EEL and insulating scaffold, is observed from PC61BM modified BHJ pero‐HSCs. Thus, the findings provide a simple way to approach high efficiency low‐cost pero‐HSCs.  相似文献

Environmental friendly aqueous‐processed solar cells have become one of the most promising candidates for the next‐generation photovoltaic devices. Researchers have made lots of progress in designing active materials with novel structures, manipulating the defects in active materials, optimizing device architecture, etc. However, it has long been a challenge to control the width of the depletion region and enhance carrier extraction ability. Fabrication of a thick bulk heterojunction (BHJ) film is an effective strategy to address these issues but difficult to realize. Herein, the thicker BHJ film of ZnO:CdTe is successfully fabricated and incorporated into CdTe‐poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) hybrid solar cells. As expected, this BHJ film enhances light absorption, extends the width of the depletion region, prolongs carrier lifetime, and promotes carrier extraction ability. Moreover, the electron transport layer of sol–gel ZnO with excellent transmittance and electrical conductivity boosts electron generation, transport, and injection, which further improves the device performance. As a result, the highest short current density (Jsc) of 19.5 mA cm?2, power conversion efficiency of 6.51%, and the widest depletion region (177 nm) are obtained in aqueous‐processed hybrid solar cells.  相似文献

A family of porphyrins and benzoporphyrins bearing phenyl, thiophenyl, or bithiophenyl groups at their meso‐positions are synthesized and systematically investigated for their potential use in bulk heterojunction solar cells (BHJ‐SCs). Comparative studies of these compounds show that the introduction of the thiophenyl and bithiophenyl groups, and the extension of the porphyrin π‐conjugated system significantly affect both photophysical and electrochemical properties. Binary conventional and ternary converted BHJ‐SCs based on these compounds are fabricated and studied. Results show that remarkable enhancement of the device efficiency is achieved by using the thiophene‐containing benzoporphyrin derivatives as additives for a poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT):phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester blend in the inverted BHJ‐SCs. The optimum BHJ‐SC exhibits a maximum energy conversion efficiency of 4.3%, corresponding to 19% enhancement of the conversion efficiency as compared with the benchmark BHJ‐SCs.  相似文献

A three‐dimensional indium tin oxide (ITO) nanohelix (NH) array is presented as a multifunctional electrode for bulk heterojunction organic solar cells for simultaneously improving light absorption and charge transport from the active region to the anode. It is shown that the ITO NH array, which is easily fabricated using an oblique‐angle‐deposition technique, acts as an effective antireflection coating as well as a light‐scattering layer, resulting in much enhanced light harvesting. Furthermore, the larger interfacial area between the electrode and the active layer, together with the enhanced carrier mobility through highly conductive ITO NH facilitate transport and collection of charge carriers. The optical and electrical improvements enabled by the ITO NH electrode result in a 10% increase in short‐circuit current density and power‐conversion efficiency of the solar cells.  相似文献

The light intensity dependence of the main photoelectrical parameters of the nonfullerene small‐molecule bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells p‐DTS(FBTTh2)2:perylene diimide (T1:PDI) shows that the nongeminate recombination losses play an important role in this system. A simple approach for the quantitative analysis of capacitance spectroscopy data of the organic BHJ solar cells, which allows to determine the density of free charge carriers as a function of applied bias under standard working conditions, is demonstrated. Using the proposed capacitance spectroscopic technique, the nongeminate recombination losses in the T1:PDI solar cells are quantitatively characterized in the scope of the bimolecular‐ and trap‐assisted recombination mechanisms. Their contributions are separately analyzed within a wide range of the applied bias.  相似文献

Two similar structural versions of a molecular donor, in which two terminal hexyl‐substituted bithiophene units are connected to a central dithienosilole (DTS) through electron deficient thiadiazolopyridine (PT) units, and which differ only in the position of pyridyl N‐atoms, were explored to study the interplay of crystallization and vertical phase segregation as a result of annealing. The donor materials exhibit greatly contrasting photovoltaic performance despite similarity in molecule structure. The difference in position of the pyridal N‐atom which points away (distal configuration; compound 1) or towards (proximal configuration; compound 2) from the DTS core, modifies the aggregation/molecular packing in the solid state, resulting in differences in the phase segregation and formation of crystalline domains. A systematic study of the temperature dependence of photovoltaic performance reveals a parameter trade‐off: as annealing temperature increases, higher donor crystallinity and ordering results, but increased donor segregation near the surface or decrease in electrode selectivity also occurs, resulting in increased interfacial recombination and hence reduction in open‐circuit voltage (Voc). The higher crystalline nature of 2 is found to have a higher impact on cell performance despite a competing undesired effect at the donor/aluminum cathode interface, contributing to its superior performance to 1 when blended with [6,6]phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM). Molecule 2 exhibits a performance increase of a factor of two after thermal annealing at 100 °C, achieving a power conversion efficiency of 5.7%.  相似文献

In order to be competitive on the energy market, organic solar cells with higher efficiency are needed. To date, polymer solar cells have retained the lead with efficiencies of up to 8%. However, research on small molecule solar cells has been catching up throughout recent years and is showing similar efficiencies, however, only for more sophisticated multilayer device configurations. In this work, a simple, highly efficient, vacuum‐processed small molecule solar cell based on merocyanine dyes – traditional colorants that can easily be mass‐produced and purified – is presented. In the past, merocyanines have been successfully introduced in solution‐processed as well as vacuum‐processed devices, demonstrating efficiencies up to 4.9%. Here, further optimization of devices is achieved while keeping the same simple layer stack, ultimately leading to efficiencies beyond the 6% mark. In addition, physical properties such as the charge carrier transport and the cell performance under various light intensities are addressed.  相似文献

CdSe nanocrystals (NCs) can be used as an electron acceptor in solar cells, employing organic ligands to passivate their surface and make them processable from solution. The nature and abundance of impurities present after NC ligand exchange from oleic acid to n‐butylamine are identified. A further purification step using hexane as a selective solvent is described, which excludes NC aggregates from solution. The influence of NC aggregates on photovoltaic device performance is studied in a CdSe:poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(3′,7′‐dimethyloctyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] (MDMO‐PPV) bulk heterojunction solar cell. The exclusion of NC aggregates leads to a four‐fold increase in device power conversion efficiency (PCE) in optimized devices. A superior blend morphology leading to improved charge generation and a better NC percolation network is identified as the main causes of this increased solar cell performance.  相似文献

Bulk heterojunction solar cells (BHJs) based on poly[N‐9″‐hepta‐decanyl‐2,7‐carbazole‐alt‐5,5‐(4′,7′‐di‐2‐thienyl‐2′,1′,3′‐benzothiadiazole)] (PCDTBT) can have internal quantum efficiencies approaching 100% but require active layers that are too thin to absorb more than ~70% of the above band gap light. When the active layer thickness is increased so that the cell absorbs more light, the fill factor and open circuit voltage decrease rapidly, so that the overall power conversion efficiency decreases. We find that hole‐traps in the polymer, which we characterize using space‐charge limited current measurements, play an important role in the performance of PCDTBT‐based BHJs and may limit the active layer thickness. Recombination due to carrier trapping is not often considered in BHJs because it is not believed to be a dominant loss mechanism in the “fruit‐fly” P3HT system. Furthermore, we show that in contrast to P3HT, PCDTBT has only weak short‐range molecular order, and that annealing at temperatures above the glass transition decreases the order in the π–π stacking. The decrease in structural order is matched by the movement of hole‐traps deeper into the band gap, so that thermal annealing worsens hole transport in the polymer and reduces the efficiency of PCDTBT‐based BHJs. These findings suggest that P3HT is not prototypical of the new class of high efficiency polymers, and that further improvement of BHJ efficiencies will necessitate the study of high efficiency polymers with low structural order.  相似文献

Understanding the morphology of polymer‐based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells is necessary to improve device efficiencies. Blends of a low‐bandgap silole‐containing conjugated polymer, poly[(4,4′‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)dithieno[3,2‐b;2′,3′‐d]silole)‐2,6‐diyl‐alt‐(4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole)‐5,5′‐diyl] (PSBTBT) with [6,6]phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were investigated under different processing conditions. The surface morphologies and vertical segregation of the “As‐Spun”, “Pre‐Annealed”, and “Post‐Annealed” films were studied by scanning force microscopy, contact angle measurements, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, near‐edge X‐ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy, dynamic secondary ion mass spectrometry, and neutron reflectivity. The results showed that PSBTBT was enriched at the cathode interface in the “As‐Spun” films and thermal annealing increased the segregation of PSBTBT to the free surface, while thermal annealing after deposition of the cathode increased the PCBM concentration at the cathode interface. Grazing‐incidence X‐ray diffraction and small‐angle neutron scattering showed that the crystallization of PSBTBT and segregation of PCBM occurred during spin coating, and thermal annealing increased the ordering of PSBTBT and enhanced the segregation of the PCBM, forming domains ~10 nm in size, leading to an improvement in photovoltaic performance.  相似文献

In this study, a comprehensive analytical model to quantify the total nongeminate recombination losses, originating from bimolecular as well as bulk and surface trap‐assisted recombination mechanisms in nonfullerene‐based bulk heterojunction organic solar cells is developed. This proposed model is successfully employed to obtain the different contributions to the recombination current of the investigated solar cells under different illumination intensities. Additionally, the model quantitatively describes the experimentally measured open‐circuit voltage versus light intensity dependence. Most importantly, it is possible to calculate the experimental results with the same fitting parameter values from the presented model. The validity of this model is also proven by a combination of other independent, steady‐state, and transient experimental techniques. This new powerful analytical tool will enable researchers in the photovoltaic community to take into account the synergetic contribution from all relevant types of nongeminate recombination losses in different optoelectronic systems and target their analysis of recombination dynamics at any operating voltage.  相似文献

Poly(benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene–alt–thieno[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐4,6‐dione) (PBDTTPD) polymer donors with linear side‐chains yield bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) solar cell power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of about 4% with phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) as the acceptor, while a PBDTTPD polymer with a combination of branched and linear substituents yields a doubling of the PCE to 8%. Using transient optical spectroscopy it is shown that while the exciton dissociation and ultrafast charge generation steps are not strongly affected by the side chain modifications, the polymer with branched side chains exhibits a decreased rate of nongeminate recombination and a lower fraction of sub‐nanosecond geminate recombination. In turn the yield of long‐lived charge carriers increases, resulting in a 33% increase in short circuit current (J sc). In parallel, the two polymers show distinct grazing incidence X‐ray scattering spectra indicative of the presence of stacks with different orientation patterns in optimized thin‐film BHJ devices. Independent of the packing pattern the spectroscopic data also reveals the existence of polymer aggregates in the pristine polymer films as well as in both blends which trap excitons and hinder their dissociation.  相似文献

The use of fullerene as acceptor limits the thermal stability of organic solar cells at high temperatures as their diffusion inside the donor leads to phase separation via Ostwald ripening. Here it is reported that fullerene diffusion is fully suppressed at temperatures up to 140 °C in bulk heterojunctions based on the benzodithiophene‐based polymer (the poly[[4,8‐bis[(2‐ethylhexyl)oxy]‐benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐2,6‐diyl][3‐fluoro‐2‐[(2‐ethylhexyl)carbonyl]‐thieno[3,4‐b]thiophenediyl]], (PTB7) in combination with the fullerene derivative [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM). The blend stability is found independently of the presence of diiodooctane (DIO) used to optimize nanostructuration and in contrast to PTB7 blends using the smaller fullerene derivative PC70BM. The unprecedented thermal stability of PTB7:PC70BM layers is addressed to local minima in the mixing enthalpy of the blend forming stable phases that inhibit fullerene diffusion. Importantly, although the nanoscale morphology of DIO processed blends is thermally stable, corresponding devices show strong performance losses under thermal stress. Only by the use of a high temperature annealing step removing residual DIO from the device, remarkably stable high efficiency solar cells with performance losses less than 10% after a continuous annealing at 140 °C over 3 days are obtained. These results pave the way toward high temperature stable polymer solar cells using fullerene acceptors.  相似文献
