The efficient evolution of hydrogen through electrocatalysis is considered a promising approach to the production of clean hydrogen fuel. Platinum (Pt)‐based materials are regarded as the most active hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts. However, the low abundance and high cost of Pt hinders the large‐scale application of these catalysts. Active, inexpensive, and earth‐abundant electrocatalysts to replace Pt‐based materials would be highly beneficial to the production of cost‐effective hydrogen energy. Herein, a novel organoimido‐derivatized heteropolyoxometalate, Mo4‐CNP, is designed as a precursor for electrocatalysts of the HER. It is demonstrated that the carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus sources derived from the Mo4‐CNP molecules lead to in situ confined carburization, phosphorization, and chemical doping on an atomic scale, thus forming nitrogen‐doped porous molybdenum carbide and phosphide hybrids, which exhibit remarkable electrocatalytic activity for the HER. Such an organically functionalized polyoxometalate‐assisted strategy described here provides a new perspective for the development of highly active non‐noble metal electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution.  相似文献

Electrochemical splitting of water is an attractive way to produce hydrogen fuel as a clean and renewable energy source. However, a major challenge is to accelerate the sluggish kinetics of the anodic half‐cell reaction where oxygen evolution reaction (OER) takes place. Here, a seamlessly conductive 3D architecture is reported with a carbon‐shelled Ni‐Co nanowire network as a highly efficient OER electrocatalyst. Highly porous and granular Ni‐Co nanowires are first grown on a carbon fiber woven fabric utilizing a cost‐effective hydrothermal method and then conductive carbon shell is coated on the Ni‐Co nanowires via glucose carbonization and annealing processes. The conductive carbon layer surrounding the nanowires is introduced to provide a continuous pathway for facile electron transport throughout the whole of the integrated 3D catalyst. This 3D hierarchical structure provides several synergistic effects and beneficial functions including a large number of active sites, easy accessibility of water, fast electron transport, rapid release of oxygen gas, enhanced electrochemical durability, and stronger structural integrity, resulting in a remarkable OER activity that delivers an overpotential of 302 mV with a Tafel slope of 43.6 mV dec?1 at a current density of 10 mA cm?2 in an alkaline medium electrolyte (1 m KOH).  相似文献

The ever‐increasing demand for clean and renewable power sources has sparked intensive research on water splitting to produce hydrogen, in which the exploration of electrocatalysts is the central issue. Herein, a new strategy, metal–organic framework template‐directed fabrication of hierarchically structured Co3O4@X (X = Co3O4, CoS, C, and CoP) electrocatalysts for efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is developed, where Co3O4@X are derived from cobalt carbonatehydroxide@zeolitic‐imidazolate‐framework‐67 (CCH@ZIF‐67). Unique hierarchical structure and synergistic effect of resulting catalysts endow abundant exposed active sites, facile ion diffusion path, and improved conductivity, being favorable for improving catalytic activity of them. Consequently, these derivatives Co3O4@X reveal highly efficient electrocatalytic performance with long‐term durability for the OER, much superior to previously reported cobalt‐based catalysts as well as the Ir/C catalyst. Particularly, Co3O4@CoP exhibits the highest electrocatalytic capability with the lower overpotential of 238 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm?2. Furthermore, Co3O4@X can also efficiently catalyze other small molecules through electro‐oxidation reaction (e.g., glycerol, methanol, or ethanol). It is expected that the strategy presented here can be extended to the fabrication of other composite electrode materials with hierarchical structures for more efficient water splitting.  相似文献

Efficient and cost‐effective bifunctional electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are of vital importance in energy conversion and storage devices. Despite the recent progress in bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts, their unbalanced and insufficient OER and ORR activities has continued to pose challenges for the practical application of such energy devices. The design of highly integrated, high‐performance, bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts composed of highly graphitic nanoshells embedded in mesoporous carbon (GNS/MC) is reported. The GNS/MC exhibits very high oxygen electrode activity, which is one of the best performances among nonprecious metal bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts, and substantially outperforms Ir‐ and Pt‐based catalysts. Moreover, the GNS/MC shows excellent durability for both OER and ORR. In situ X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and square wave voltammetry reveal the roles of residual Ni and Fe entities in enhancing OER and ORR activities. Raman spectra indicate highly graphitic, defect‐rich nature of the GNS/MC, which can contribute to the enhanced OER activity and to high stability for the OER and ORR. In aqueous Na–air battery tests, the GNS/MC air cathode‐based cell exhibits superior performance to Ir/C‐ and Pt/C‐based batteries. Significantly, the GNS/MC‐based cell demonstrates the first example of rechargeable aqueous Na–air battery.  相似文献

Rational synthesis of hybrid, earth‐abundant materials with efficient electrocatalytic functionalities are critical for sustainable energy applications. Copper is theoretically proposed to exhibit high reduction capability close to Pt, but its high diffusion behavior at elevated fabrication temperatures limits its homogeneous incorporation with carbon. Here, a Cu, Co‐embedded nitrogen‐enriched mesoporous carbon framework (CuCo@NC) is developed using, a facile Cu‐confined thermal conversion strategy of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF‐67) pre‐grown on Cu(OH)2 nanowires. Cu ions formed below 450 °C are homogeneously confined within the pores of ZIF‐67 to avoid self‐aggregation, while the existence of Cu? N bonds further increases the nitrogen content in carbon frameworks derived from ZIF‐67 at higher pyrolysis temperatures. This CuCo@NC electrocatalyst provides abundant active sites, high nitrogen doping, strong synergetic coupling, and improved mass transfer, thus significantly boosting electrocatalytic performances in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). A high half‐wave potential (0.884 V vs reversible hydrogen potential, RHE) and a large diffusion‐limited current density are achieved for ORR, comparable to or exceeding the best reported earth‐abundant ORR electrocatalysts. In addition, a low overpotential (145 mV vs RHE) at 10 mA cm?2 is demonstrated for HER, further suggesting its great potential as an efficient electrocatalyst for sustainable energy applications.  相似文献

Although the maximized dispersion of metal atoms has been realized in the single‐atom catalysts, further improving the intrinsic activity of the catalysts is of vital importance. Here, the decoration of isolated Ru atoms into an edge‐rich carbon matrix is reported for the electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction. The developed catalyst displays high catalytic performance with low overpotentials of 63 and 102 mV for achieving the current densities of 10 and 50 mA cm?2, respectively. Its mass activity is about 9.6 times higher than that of the commercial Pt/C‐20% catalyst at an overpotential of 100 mV. Experimental results and density functional theory calculations suggest that the edges in the carbon matrix enhance the local electric field at the Ru site and accelerate the reaction kinetics for the hydrogen evolution. The present work may provide insights into electrocatalytic behavior and guide the design of advanced electrocatalysts.  相似文献

Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is a key reaction in water splitting, and developing efficient and robust non‐noble electrocatalysts for HER is still a great challenge for large‐scale hydrogen production. Herein, a vertically aligned core–shell structure grown on Ti foil with CoP nanoarray as a core and N,P‐doped carbon (NPC) as a shell (CoP/NPC/TF) is first reported as an efficient electrocatalyst for HER. Results indicate that CoP/NPC/TF only demands the overpotentials of 91 and 80 mV to drive the current density of 10 mA cm?2 in acidic and alkaline solutions. The electrochemical measurements and theoretical calculations show that the synergy of CoP nanorod core and porous NPC shell enhances HER performance significantly, because the introduction of porous NPC shell not only offers more active sites but also improves the electrical conductivity and durability of the sample in acidic and alkaline solutions. Density functional theory calculation further reveals that all the C atoms between N and P atoms in CoP/NPC are the most efficient active sites, which greatly improve the HER performance. The identification of active species in this work provides an effective strategy to design and synthesize the low‐cost, high‐efficient, and robust CoP‐based electrocatalysts.  相似文献

The oxygen electrode plays a vital role in the successful commercialization of renewable energy technologies, such as fuel cells and water electrolyzers. In this study, the Prussian blue analogue‐derived nitrogen‐doped nanocarbon (NC) layer‐trapped, cobalt‐rich, core–shell nanostructured electrocatalysts (core–shell Co@NC) are reported. The electrode exhibits an improved oxygen evolution activity and stability compared to that of the commercial noble electrodes. The core–shell Co@NC‐loaded nickel foam exhibits a lower overpotential of 330 mV than that of IrO2 on nickel foam at 10 mA cm?2 and has a durability of over 400 h. The commercial Pt/C cathode‐assisted, core–shell Co@NC–anode water electrolyzer delivers 10 mA cm?2 at a cell voltage of 1.59 V, which is 70 mV lower than that of the IrO2–anode water electrolyzer. Over the long‐term chronopotentiometry durability testing, the IrO2–anode water electrolyzer shows a cell voltage loss of 230 mV (14%) at 95 h, but the loss of the core–shell Co@NC–anode electrolyzer is only 60 mV (4%) even after 350 h cell‐operation. The findings indicate that the Prussian blue analogue is a class of inorganic nanoporous materials that can be used to derive metal‐rich, core–shell electrocatalysts with enriched active centers.  相似文献

A unique approach for the synthesis of nonstoichiometric, mesoporous molybdenum oxide (MoO3–x) with nanosized crystalline walls by using a soft template (PEO‐b‐PS) synthesis method is introduced. The as‐synthesized mesoporous MoO3–x is very active and stable (durability > 12 h) for the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under both acidic and alkaline conditions. The intrinsic MoO3 serves as an HER electrocatalyst without the assistance of carbon materials, noble metals, or MoS2 materials. The results from transmission electron microscopy and N2 sorption techniques show that the as‐synthesized mesoporous MoO3–x has large accessible pores (20–40 nm), which are able to facilitate mass transport and charge transfer during HER. In terms of X‐ray diffraction, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, temperature‐programmed oxidation, and diffusive reflectance UV–vis spectroscopy, the mesoporous MoO3–x exhibits mixed oxidation states (Mo5+, Mo6+) and an oxygen‐deficient structure. The as‐synthesized MoO3–x only requires a low overpotential (≈0.14 V) to achieve a 10 mA cm?2 current density in 0.1 m KOH and the Tafel slope is as low as 56 mV dec?1. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate a change of electronic structure and the possible reaction pathway of HER. Oxygen vacancies and mesoporosity serve as key factors for excellent performance.  相似文献

A homologous Ni–Co based nanowire system, consisting of both nickel cobalt oxide and nickel cobalt sulfide nanowires, is developed for efficient, complementary water splitting. The spinel‐type nickel cobalt oxide (NiCo2O4) nanowires are hydrothermally synthesized and can serve as an excellent oxygen evolution reaction catalyst. Subsequent sulfurization of the NiCo2O4 nanowires leads to the formation of pyrite‐type nickel cobalt sulfide (Ni0.33Co0.67S2) nanowires. Due to the 1D nanowire morphology and enhanced charge transport capability, the Ni0.33Co0.67S2 nanowires function as an efficient, stable, and robust nonnoble metal electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), substantially exceeding CoS2 or NiS2 nanostructures synthesized under similar methods. The Ni0.33Co0.67S2 nanowires exhibit low onset potential of ?65, ?39, and ?50 mV versus reversible hydrogen electrode, Tafel slopes of 44, 68, and 118 mV dec?1 at acidic, neutral, and basic conditions, respectively, and excellent stability, comparable to the best reported non‐noble metal‐based HER catalysts. Furthermore, the homologous Ni0.33Co0.67S2 nanowires and NiCo2O4 nanowires are assembled into an all‐nanowire based water splitting electrolyzer with a current density of 5 mA cm?2 at a voltage as 1.65 V, thus suggesting a unique homologous, earth abundant material system for water splitting.  相似文献

The electrolysis processes such as hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) require high efficient catalysts with robust surface stability. A high conductivity is also necessary to speed up the charge transport between the catalyst and the electrolyte. Recently, the observation of exceedingly high conductivity in the topological semimetal MoP, has provided a model catalyst to investigate the correlation between the electrical transport and the electrocatalytic activity for the HER. Thus, MoP is encapsulated in a Mo, P codoped carbon layer (MoP@C). This composite material exhibits outstanding HER performance, with an extremely low overpotential of 49 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm?2 and a Tafel slope of 54 mV dec?1 in an alkaline medium. In addition, electron transport analysis indicates that MoP exhibits high conductivity and mobility due to the existence of triple‐point fermions and a complex Fermi surface. Furthermore, the presence of P? C and Mo? C bonds at the interface between the carbon layer and the MoP particles modulates the band structure of MoP@C and facilitates fast electron transfer, accumulation, and subsequent delocalization, which are in turn responsible for the excellent HER activity.  相似文献

It is of great significance to develop highly efficient and superior stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts for upcoming electrochemical conversion technologies and clean energy systems. Here, an assembled 3D electrode is synthesized by a one‐step solvothermal process using such an original OER electrocatalyst. During the solvothermal process, Ni ions released from Ni foam in acidic solution and Fe ions added exogenously act as metal centers and coordinate with terephthalic acid (TPA) organic molecules by robust coordinate bonds, and finally, NiFe‐based metal–organic framework (MOF) nanosheets in situ grown on Ni foam, i.e., MIL‐53(FeNi)/NF, are prepared. This binder‐free 3D electrode shows superior OER activity with high current density (50 mA cm?2) at an overpotential of 233 mV, a Tafel slope of 31.3 mV dec?1, and excellent stability in alkaline aqueous solution (1 m KOH). It is discovered that introduction of Fe into MIL‐53 structure increases electrochemically‐active areas as well as reaction sites, accelerated electron transport capability, and modulated electronic structure to enhance catalytic performance. Besides, first principles calculations show that MIL‐53(FeNi) is more favorable for foreign atoms' adsorption and has increased 3d orbital electron density boosting intrinsic activity. This work elucidates a promising electrode for electrocatalysts and enriches direct application of MOF materials.  相似文献

Highly efficient and stable catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction, especially in alkaline conditions are crucial for the practical demands of electrochemical water splitting. Here, the synthesis of a novel RuAu single‐atom alloy (SAA) by laser ablation in liquid is reported. The SAA exhibits a high stability and a low overpotential, 24 mV@10 mA cm?2, which is much lower than that of a Pt/C catalyst (46 mV) in alkaline media. Moreover, the turnover frequency of RuAu SAA is three times that of Pt/C catalyst. Density functional theory computation indicates the excellent catalytic activity of RuAu SAAs originates from the relay catalysis of Ru and Au active sites. This work opens a new avenue toward high‐performance SAAs via fast quenching of immiscible metals.  相似文献

Water splitting is a promising technology for sustainable conversion of hydrogen energy. The rational design of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) bifunctional electrocatalysts with superior activity and stability in the same electrolyte is the key to promoting their large‐scale applications. Herein, an ultralow Ru (1.08 wt%) transition metal phosphide on nickel foam (Ru–MnFeP/NF) derived from Prussian blue analogue, that effectively drivies both the OER and the HER in 1 m KOH, is reported. To reach 20 mA cm?2 for OER and 10 mA cm?2 for HER, the Ru–MnFeP/NF electrode only requires overpotentials of 191 and 35 mV, respectively. Such high electrocatalytic activity exceeds most transition metal phosphides for the OER and the HER, and even reaches Pt‐like HER electrocatalytic levels. Accordingly, it significantly accelerates full water splitting at 10 mA cm?2 with 1.470 V, which outperforms that of the integrated RuO2 and Pt/C couple electrode (1.560 V). In addition, the extremely long operational stability (50 h) and the successful demonstration of a solar‐to‐hydrogen generation system through full water splitting provide more flexibility for large‐scale applications of Ru–MnFeP/NF catalysts.  相似文献
