Abstract: The extinct, Cretaceous–Paleogene Gondwanatherians have previously been considered to be early xenarthrans, multituberculates and more recently Mammalia incertae sedis. However, the phylogenetic relationships of Gondwanatheria have yet to be resolved. In this paper, additional dental specimens of the gondwanatherian Sudamerica ameghinoi from the Early Paleocene Salamanca Formation of Argentina are described. These specimens provide additional information on Gondwanatheria affinities, sudamericid morphology and help support earlier hypotheses on Sudamerica dental formula and tooth categories. Sudamericid dental functional morphology and body mass estimates, based on measurements of isolated teeth, are inferred. Dental morphology such as hypsodonty, enamel microstructure and crown features do support a robust clade for Sudamericidae. 相似文献

The study of the holotype and of a new specimen of Nanchangosaurus suni (Reptilia; Diapsida; Hupehsuchia) revealed a suite of hitherto unrecognized characters. For example, Nanchangosaurus has bipartite neural spines and its vertebral count is nearly identical to that of Hupehsuchus. It differs from the latter in having poorly developed forelimbs despite the advanced ossification in the rest of the skeleton. Other differences all pertain to hupehsuchian plesiomorphies retained in Nanchangosaurus, such as low neural spines. The relationship of Hupehsuchia within Diapsida was analyzed based on a data matrix containing 41 taxa coded for 213 characters, of which 18 were identified as aquatic adaptations from functional inferences. These aquatic adaptations may be vulnerable to the argumentation of character homology because expectation for homoplasy is high. There is an apparent incongruence between phylogenetic signals from aquatic adaptations and the rest of the data, with aquatic adaptations favoring all marine reptiles but Helveticosaurus to form a super-clade. However, this super-clade does not obtain when aquatic adaptations were deleted, whereas individual marine reptile clades are all derived without them. We examined all possible combinations of the 18 aquatic adaptations (n = 262143) and found that four lineages of marine reptiles are recognized almost regardless of which of these features were included in the analysis: Hupehsuchia-Ichthyopterygia clade, Sauropterygia-Saurosphargidae clade, Thalattosauria, and Helveticosaurus. The interrelationships among these four depended on the combination of aquatic adaptations to be included, i.e., assumed to be homologous a priori by bypassing character argumentation. Hupehsuchia always appeared as the sister taxon of Ichthyopterygia. 相似文献

A phylogenetic analysis of theUlmaceae, Cannabaceae, Barbeyaceae, andBroussonetia of theMoraceae produced nine equally parsimonious trees with 127 steps. TheUlmoideae (Ulmaceae, sensuGrudzinskaya) are a monophyletic group and distinct from theCeltidoideae. The genusAmpelocera occupies an isolated taxonomic position among the celtidoids. The similarity ofAmpelocera to the fossil celtidoid flowerEoceltis of North America suggests thatAmpelocera posesses an archaic suite of characters, and occupies a primitive position among the celtidoids, theCannabaceae and theMoraceae. The relationships among the other celtidoid taxa,Cannabaceae, andBroussonetia are problematic. TheCannabaceae andBroussonetia of theMoraceae are nested within the celtidoids suggesting that this is a paraphyletic group. The close, but unresolved, relationship of the celtidoids to theMoraceae andCannabaceae observed in this analysis, and the appearance of the celtidoids in the fossil record prior to the ulmoids suggests that the evolutionary relationship of the ulmoids and celtidoids may be more distant than current taxonomic treatments reflect. 相似文献

A cladistic analysis of molecular data from the chloroplast generbcL was used to examine the taxonomic relationships of the walnut family (Juglandaceae). In addition, chemical and morphological data from a previous study byHufford (1992) were incorporated, expanded, and analyzed independently and in combination with the molecular data. The results of these analyses suggest that theJuglandaceae are more closely related to theFagaceae, Betulaceae, Casuarinaceae, andUrticaceae and their relatives (sensuCronquist 1981) than they are to theAnacardiaceae (sensuThorne 1983). However, sequence data fromrbcL also suggest a relationship between the higherHamamelidae and certain families in theRosidae sensuCronquist 1981 (such asRosaceae andRhamnaceae), an outcome which would add credence to the widely accepted view of the polyphyletic nature of theHamamelidae. 相似文献

Eighty six complete 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene sequences representing every mammalian order (one monotreme, 33 marsupials, 52 placentals) were employed to establish a core secondary structure model for mammalian 16S rRNA. Starting with the Gutell et al. (1993) and De Rijk et al. (1999) models, we used the criteria of potential base-pairing and positional covariance to make refinements in these models for mammalian 16S rRNA molecules. Our results suggest a mammalian secondary structure model with deletions as well as additions to the Gutell et al. (1993) and De Rijk et al. (1999) models for cow. We recognize 53 stems, 41 of which show at least some positional covariance within Mammalia. In addition, we recognize four tertiary interactions. Stems and loops have distinctly different properties, including base composition and relative substitution rates. Accounting for these differences results in improved models of sequence evolution. 相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships within the angiosperm orderCampanulales were investigated by comparative sequencing of the chloroplast generbcL. CompleterbcL sequences were obtained for ten species in six families within the order. These data were analyzed along with previously publishedrbcL sequences from other taxa (for a total of 117 species) within the subclassAsteridae and outgroups, producing 32 equally parsimonious trees. A subset consisting of 44 of these taxa was then chosen and more rigorous analyses performed, resulting in four equally parsimonious trees. Results indicate that two major clades roughly corresponding to traditionally circumscribedAsterales andCampanulales exist as sister taxa. In particular, therbcL trees indicate thatSphenoclea is not a member ofCampanulales orAsterales, thatPentaphragma is more closely allied toAsterales thanCampanulales, that theCyphiaceae are not monophyletic, thatCampanulaceae andLobeliaceae are not sister taxa, and thatStylidiaceae are correctly placed withinCampanulales. 相似文献

A cladistic analysis of 44 species of the generaCladina andCladonia is presented.Pycnothelia papillaria, Cladia aggregata andC. retipora were used as outgroup taxa. The consensus of all equally parsimonious trees suggests a common ancestral origin for species inCladonia andCladina while the generaPycnothelia andCladia cluster outside this group. The results do not support distinction ofCladina at genus level although it is distinguished as a monophyletic group but within the genusCladonia. The current sectional division ofCladonia is not supported. SectionsCocciferae andHelopodium are best supported but even these groups as currently delimited seem to in include elements that are more closely related to species of the other sections, e.g.C. carneola of sect.Cocciferae andC. pityrophylla of sect.Helopodium. Sections such asUnciales andPerviae seem to be artificial assemblages. In general the evolutionary scheme of the genus seems to be more complicated than revealed by the current sectional division. 相似文献

Partial 25S rRNA sequencing of Cerinosterus cyanescens showed it to be a close relative of Microstroma juglandis, a member of the basidiomycetous order Microstromatales. It is unrelated to the generic type species, C. luteoalba, which is a member of the order Dacrymycetales. The clinical occurrence of C. cyanescens is possibly explained by its thermotolerance and lipolytic activity. The species' nutritional profile is established. Growth on n-hexadecane is rapid; it grows well on typical plant constituents like gallic, tannic, vanillic, quinic and p-coumaric acids, but not on 3-hydroxybenzoic acid, phenol and hydroquinone. The failure to assimilate D-galactose, L-sorbose and ethylamine, the presence of urease and sensitivity to cycloheximide are diagnostic for the species. 相似文献

When examined using SEM, Chinese samples of Tuber indicum and T. sinense displayed the same ascospore ornamentation as that of T. pseudohimalayense, T. indicum, collected in India by Duthie in 1899, and samples renamed T. himalayense in 1988. The different authors who named the four taxa (T. indicum, T. himalayense, T. sinense, T. pseudohimalyense) described differences in the surface of the peridium which could be considered as usual variations within a single species. We consider T. indicum, T. himalayense, T. sinense and T. pseudohimalayense as one species, T. indicum. Within this T. indicum complex, according to ITS and β-tubulin sequences, there are two groups in China, which could be considered as geographical ecotypes. This study is the first to identify a genetic and phylogeographical structure within the Chinese Tuber species. 相似文献

This study addresses the phylogenetic relationships among Pistacia species by amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLPs). A total of 31 wild Pistacia accessions belonging to P. eurycarpa, P. khinjuk, P. atlantica, P. mutica, P. integerrima, P. terebinthus, P. palaestina, P. mexicana, P. lentiscus species and to a hybrid between P. atlantica and P. integerrima and four P. vera cultivars were the plant materials of this study. Six AFLP primer combinations generated a total of 275 fragments, an average
of 45.8 bands per primer pair, of which 254 (92.4) were polymorphic. Unweighted pair group method based on arithmetic average
(UPGMA) and principle coordinates (PCo) analysis were performed using both mean character difference and Jaccard similarity
matrices. According to the results, P. vera, P. khinjuk, P. eurycarpa, P. atlantica, P. mutica, P. integerrima and P. atlantica x P. integerrima hybrids were in the first cluster. UPGMA analysis using mean character difference clustered P. palaestina, P. terebinthus, P. mexicana and P. lentiscus in the second cluster, whereas UPGMA analysis using Jaccard coefficient separated P. palaestina and P. terebinthus from P. lentiscus and P. mexicana. The P. khinjuk accessions had closer relationships to P. eurycarpa and P. atlantica than to P. vera which led to mis-identification of P. khinjuk samples as P. eurycarpa in this tudy. P. atlantica – P. mutica and P. terebinthus – P. palaestina pairs were the closest species, and therefore P. mutica were classified as P. atlantica, and P. palaestina were as P. terebinthus. The resulted dendrograms and the PCo plots in this study did not support evergreen versus deciduous sectional division of
Pistacia species and suggested classifying P. terebinthus in a separate group rather than being in the first cluster. Further study is inevitable including more evergreen species
and accessions to clarify the position of P. terebinthus and the evergreen species. 相似文献

Phylogenetic Timing of the Fish-Specific Genome Duplication Correlates with the Diversification of Teleost Fish 总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13
For many genes, ray-finned fish (Actinopterygii) have two paralogous copies, where only one ortholog is present in tetrapods. The discovery of an additional, almost-complete set of Hox clusters in teleosts (zebrafish, pufferfish, medaka, and cichlid) but not in basal actinopterygian lineages (Polypterus) led to the formulation of the fish-specific genome duplication hypothesis. The phylogenetic timing of this genome duplication during the evolution of ray-finned fish is unknown, since only a few species of basal fish lineages have been investigated so far. In this study, three nuclear genes (fzd8, sox11, tyrosinase) were sequenced from sturgeons (Acipenseriformes), gars (Semionotiformes), bony tongues (Osteoglossomorpha), and a tenpounder (Elopomorpha). For these three genes, two copies have been described previously teleosts (e.g., zebrafish, pufferfish), but only one orthologous copy is found in tetrapods. Individual gene trees for these three genes and a concatenated dataset support the hypothesis that the fish-specific genome duplication event took place after the split of the Acipenseriformes and the Semionotiformes from the lineage leading to teleost fish but before the divergence of Osteoglossiformes. If these three genes were duplicated during the proposed fish-specific genome duplication event, then this event separates the species-poor early-branching lineages from the species-rich teleost lineage. The additional number of genes resulting from this event might have facilitated the evolutionary radiation and the phenotypic diversification of the teleost fish.[Reviewing Editor: Martin Kreitman] 相似文献

It is commonly believed that there are differences in the evolutionary lability of the crania, dentition, and postcrania of mammals, the latter two being more prone to homoplasy because of strong selective pressures for feeding and locomotion, respectively. Further, because of the fragmentary nature of fossils, phylogenetic analyses of extinct taxa often must utilize characters based on only one of these systems. In this paper the levels of homoplasy (as measured by the consistency index; CI) were compared in characters based on these three anatomical systems in therian mammals. No statistically significant differences were found in the overall CIs of 41 data sets based on dental, cranial, or postcranial characters. Differences in homoplasy within data sets with two or three kinds of data were not statistically significant. These findings suggest that dental, cranial, and postcranial characters can be equally prone to homoplasy and none should be automatically dismissed, disregarded, or systematically weighted in phylogenetic analyses. The level of homoplasy in characters derived from a given region of the skeleton may differ depending on the taxonomic level of the taxa considered. Dental, cranial, and postcranial characters may not constitute natural classes, yet examination of the phylogenetic signal of these subsets of data previous to a simultaneous analysis can shed light on significant aspects of the evolutionary process. 相似文献

The Passeridae are characterized by possessing a neomorphic preglossale bone in the tongue and a uniquely enlarged M. hypoglossus anterior forming part of the seed-cup used to orient and hold seeds in position when they are being husked. The pale rock finch (Carpospiza brachydactyla), which had been suggested in recent years to be allied to the Fringillidae rather than to the Passeridae, also possesses these unique derived features of the passerine finches and hence is clearly a member of the latter group. Further, the combination of the neomorphic preglossale bone and the large M. hypoglossus anterior provide strong support for the independent evolution of granivorous feeding in the Passeridae and against the placement of these birds with any members of the Ploceidae.Communicated by F. The family Sordariaceae incorporates a number of fungi that are excellent model organisms for various biological, biochemical, ecological, genetic and evolutionary studies. To determine the evolutionary relationships within this group and their respective phylogenetic placements, multiple-gene sequences (partial nuclear 28S ribosomal DNA, nuclear ITS ribosomal DNA and partial nuclear β-tubulin) were analysed using maximum parsimony and Bayesian analyses. Analyses of different gene datasets were performed individually and then combined to generate phylogenies. We report that Sordariaceae, with the exclusion Apodus and Diplogelasinospora, is a monophyletic group. Apodus and Diplogelasinospora are related to Lasiosphaeriaceae. Multiple gene analyses suggest that the spore sheath is not a phylogenetically significant character to segregate Asordaria from Sordaria. Smooth-spored Sordaria species (including so-called Asordaria species) constitute a natural group. Asordaria is therefore congeneric with Sordaria. Anixiella species nested among Gelasinospora species, providing further evidence that non-ostiolate ascomata have evolved from ostiolate ascomata on several independent occasions. This study agrees with previous studies that show heterothallic Neurospora species to be monophyletic, but that homothallic ones may have a multiple origins. Although Gelasinospora and Neurospora are closely related and not resolved as monophyletic groups, there is insufficient evidence to place currently accepted Gelasinospora and Neurospora species into the same genus. 相似文献

The phylogeny of Auriculoscypha anacardiicola, an associate of scale insects in India, is investigated using subcellular characters and MP and Bayesian analyses of combined nuLSU-rDNA, nuSSU-rDNA and 5.8S rDNA sequence data. It has simple septa with a pulley-wheel-shaped pore plug, which is diagnostic of phytoparasitic members of the Pucciniomycetes, and hyphal wall break on branching, a phenomenon unique to some simple septate heterobasidiomycetes. The septal ultrastructure of A. anacardiicola is similar to that of the genus Septobasidium. The close relationship to Septobasidium is also confirmed by rDNA sequence analyses. The polyphyletic nature of the order Platygloeales, noted in earlier studies, is evident from the present molecular analysis as well. The placement of Auriculoscypha in the Platygloeales can no longer be justified and both ultrastructural and molecular evidence strongly support the placement of Auriculoscypha in the Septobasidiales. 相似文献

Phylogenetic systematics of the monotypic genus Hayataella (Rubiaceae) endemic to Taiwan 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Hayataella (Rubiaceae) is a monotypic genus endemic to Taiwan that comprises H. michelloides. In recent years, Hayataella was considered to be synonymous with Ophiorrhiza; however, no specific data have been reported, and the systematic treatment of Hayataella has been unclear. To elucidate the systematic treatment of Hayataella, molecular phylogenetic analyses based on ITS of nrDNA, atpB–rbcL, and trnK/matK of cpDNA were conducted with four Ophiorrhiza species. In the Bayesian and the most parsimonious trees, H. michelloides was included in the Ophiorrhiza clade. The monotypic status of Hayataella is, therefore, not considered appropriate, and the combination Ophiorrhiza michelloides (Masam.) H. S. Lo is supported. 相似文献

With the rapid increase in available bacterial whole-genome information, comparison of bacteria at the whole-genome level
has proven to be highly useful in microbial phylogenetic research. Here we constructed a phylogenetic tree based on 15 whole
genomes of Mycoplasma and the related bacteria. First, 143 orthologous gene families that are shared by all of the 15 bacteria were selected and
143 multiple alignments were generated. Next, a concatenated multiple alignment inferred from the 143 multiple alignments
was generated. A total of 43,370 amino acid sites were considered in the neighbor-joining analysis. The phylogenetic tree
based on the whole-genomic information indicated that the 15 bacteria were divided into four major groups with 100% bootstrap
support, i.e., the M. hyopneumoniae (Mhy) group, the M. mycoides (Mmy) group, the M. pneumoniae (Mpn) group, and the Bacillus-Phytoplasma (BP) group. In the phylogenetic tree, the Mhy group was more closely related to the Mpn group than the Mmy group. The relationships among the Mhy, Mmy, Mpn, and BP groups were supported with 100% in bootstrap analysis. The phylogenetic tree based on the whole-genome comparison is different
from the 16S rRNA tree. Thirty-nine of the 143 phylogenetic trees had the same type of the topology based on the whole-genome
comparison. However, we could not identify a gene family contributing or solely belonging to the topology of the 39 proteins.
In this study, we showed that some proteins, such as RpoA, RpoB, RpoC, and RpoD, are not suitable for evolutionary studies
on relationships among major groups of mycoplasmas. We also showed that glycolysis-related genes of Ureaplasma have a higher substitution rate than the other bacteria. The phylogenetic approaches at the whole-genome level are very important
and will be essential for microbial evolutionary studies.

Laccopetalum giganteum (Ranunculaceae) is a rare endemic buttercup from the montane regions of the Peruvian Andes. The systematic position of this monotypic genus within Ranunculaceae was investigated using cpDNA matK sequence data. Our findings indicate that L. giganteum forms a highly supported clade together with Krapfia. Several morphological characters are shared by these genera; large subglobose and fleshy flowers, presence of androgynophore with a separated staminal and carpellate region and many tiny achenes. The Laccopetalum-Krapfia clade is sister to the core Ranunculus group with a high bootstrap support. The number of sepals and similar characteristics of achene morphology support an affinity of Laccopetalum with Ranunculus s.s tr. 相似文献

Parsimony and maximum likelihood analyses of combinedtrnL (UAA) 5 exon —trnF (GAA) andrps4 exon cpDNA, and 18S nrDNA sequences of 60 arthrodontous moss taxa indicate strong support for the monophyly of a clade containing theSplachnineae, Orthotrichineae, and diplolepideous alternate sub-orders. A clade including theSplachnineae, Meesiaceae andLeptobryum (Bryaceae) is similarly well supported and forms the sister group to a clade comprising theOrthotrichineae and the other diplolepideous alternate mosses. Within this latter clade a number of well supported lineages are identified, but relationships among these remain poorly resolved. These analyses indicate that the Splachnaceous and Orthotrichaceous peristomes have been independently derived from an ancestral perfect bryoid peristome. 相似文献
