Representatives of the genus Oreoleuciscus (Altai osmans) from the water bodies of Western Mongolia were examined for sequence polymorphism of the mitochondrial DNA fragment containing the cytochrome b (Cyt-b) gene. A total of 17 sequence variants (haplotypes) were discovered, which formed two clusters, A and B, with nonoverlapping geographic localization. Cluster A included haplotypes of Altai osmans from the Valley of Lakes water bodies. Cluster B consisted of two subclusters, the first of which (B1) united sequence variants of the populations from Hollow of the Great Lakes and the lakes of the Great Altai Range. The second subcluster (B2) was formed by the haplotypes originating from the Hollow of the Lake Uvs, some isolated lakes of the Northwestern Khangay region, and the water bodies of the Arctic Ocean Basin (basins of Selenga and Orchon rivers). Based on the genetic divergence estimates and the radiation time of genetic geographic groups identified, the existence of three allopatric species of Altaic osmans in the genus Oreoleuciscus was substantiated.  相似文献

By four meristic and 14 morphometric characters of the skull the phenetic relationships of Altai Osmans of the genus Oreoleuciscus from lakes Ust-Nur (the Selenga Basin), Sangiyn-Dalai-Nur (the Khangai Highland), and Orog-Nur (Lake Valley) are estimated. Principal components analysis is performed. No interpopulational differences by the set of meristic characters are found. By the set of morphometric characters the specimens from Lake Ust-Nur in the space of principal components are separated from specimens from two other lakes while the distributions of specimens from Lake Sangiyn-Dalai-Nur and Orog-Nur overlap. With consideration of estimates of similarity in the structure of interpopulational differences it is assumed that separation of the phyletic line common for populations of lakes Ust-Nur and Orog-Nur from the phyletic line of population of Lake Sangiyn-Dalai-Nur preceded separation of phyletic lines of populations from lakes Ust-Nur and Orog-Nur.  相似文献

The variability of osteological characters has been investigated in cyprinid fish of the genus Oreoleuciscus (Potanin Altai osman) from the river Zavkhan; this fish species is endemic for water bodies of Central Asia. Multivariate analysis of 13 quantitative parameters of the size of the cerebral and visceral skull and the pectoral girdle and the construction of ontogenetic channels allowed the detection of morphologically distinct forms in the fluvial habitats. The result obtained provides additional proof of the possibility of sympatric diversification of fish in river ecosystems. One of the two fluvial forms discovered has been shown to be identical (with regard to the osteological characters) to a previously described herbivorous form of O. potanini from the standing water bodies of the Great Lakes Hollow (Western Mongolia).  相似文献

The phylogenetic diversity and seasonal dynamics of freshwater Actinobacteria populations in four limnologically different lakes of the Mecklenburg-Brandenburg Lake District (northeastern Germany) were investigated. Fluorescence in situ hybridization was used to determine the seasonal abundances and dynamics of total Actinobacteria (probe HGC69a) and the three actinobacterial subclusters acI, acI-A, and acI-B (probes AcI-852, AcI-840-1, and AcI-840-2). Seasonal means of total Actinobacteria abundances in the epilimnia of the lakes varied from 13 to 36%, with maximum values of 30 to 58%, of all DAPI (4′,6′-diamidino-2-phenylindole)-stained cells. Around 80% of total Actinobacteria belonged to the acI cluster. The two subclusters acI-A and acI-B accounted for 60 to 91% of the acI cluster and showed seasonal means of 49% (acI-B) and 23% (acI-A) in relation to the acI cluster. Total Actinobacteria and members of the clusters acI and acI-B showed distinct seasonal changes in their absolute abundances, with maxima in late spring and fall/winter. In eight clone libraries constructed from the lakes, a total of 76 actinobacterial 16S rRNA gene sequences were identified from a total of 177 clones. The majority of the Actinobacteria sequences belonged to the acI and acIV cluster. Several new clusters and subclusters were found (acSTL, scB1-4, and acIVA-D). The majority of all obtained 16S rRNA gene sequences are distinct from those of already-cultured freshwater Actinobacteria.  相似文献

The phylogenetic diversity of picocyanobacteria in seven alkaline lakes on the Tibetan Plateau was analyzed using the molecular marker 16S-23S rRNA internal transcribed spacer sequence. A total of 1,077 environmental sequences retrieved from the seven lakes were grouped into seven picocyanobacterial clusters, with two clusters newly described here. Each of the lakes was dominated by only one or two clusters, while different lakes could have disparate communities, suggesting low alpha diversity but high beta diversity of picocyanobacteria in these high-altitude freshwater and saline lakes. Several globally distributed clusters were found in these Tibetan lakes, such as subalpine cluster I and the Cyanobium gracile cluster. Although other clusters likely exhibit geographic restriction to the plateau temporally, reflecting endemicity, they can indeed be distributed widely on the plateau. Lakes with similar salinities may have similar genetic populations despite a large geographic distance. Canonical correspondence analysis identified salinity as the only environmental factor that may in part explain the diversity variations among lakes. Mantel tests suggested that the community similarities among lakes are independent of geographic distance. A portion of the picocyanobacterial clusters appear to be restricted to a narrow salinity range, while others are likely adapted to a broad range. A seasonal survey of Lake Namucuo across 3 years did not show season-related variations in diversity, and depth-related population partitioning was observed along a vertical profile of the lake. Our study emphasizes the high dispersive potential of picocyanobacteria and suggests that the regional distribution may result from adaptation to specified environments.  相似文献

Similarity of populations of Altai osmans Oreoleuciscus (Cyprinidae) is estimated on the material from all principal parts of their area in Mongolia using methods of population-genetical analysis. Nineteen loci are considered coding isozymes and isoforms of non-enzyme proteins on the material of ten samples, RAPD-analysis is made for two samples representing different population sets. The analyzed populations of Altai osmans on the Mongolia territory are subdivided into two spatial and genetically clearly differentiated population groups—the Selenga group (with the Tesiyn-Gol basin) and the Central Asian group (populations from water bodies of Lake Valley and Great Lakes Basin. Probable causes and mechanisms of formation of the revealed population-genetical structure are discussed.  相似文献

An amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) method, developed to genotype Yersinia enterocolitica, has been used to investigate 70 representative strains isolated from humans, pigs, sheep, and cattle in the United Kingdom. AFLP primarily distinguished Y. enterocolitica strains according to their biotype, with strains dividing into two distinct clusters: cluster A, comprising largely the putatively pathogenic biotypes (BT2 to -4), and cluster B, comprising the putatively nonpathogenic biotype 1A strains and a single BT1B isolate. Within these two clusters, subclusters formed largely on the basis of serotype. However, AFLP profiles also allowed differentiation of strains within these serotype-related subclusters, indicating the high discriminatory power of the technique for Y. enterocolitica. Investigation of the relationship between strain AFLP profile and host confirmed that pigs are, and provides further proof that sheep may be, potential sources of human infection with putatively pathogenic strains. However, the results suggest that some strains causing human disease do not come from veterinary sources identifiable at this time. The distribution of some BT1A isolates within cluster A raises questions about the relationship between virulence potential and biotype.  相似文献

Ninety strains of eleven Bacillus species in the Bacillus brevis group and the Bacillus aneurinolyticus group were compared with the electrophoretic whole-cell protein pattern. The strains were separated into two clusters at the similarity of 55%. One cluster (cluster 1) was consisted of strains from the B. brevis group, and another cluster (cluster 2) was composed of strains from the B. aneurinolyticus group. The cluster 1 was separated into eight subclusters. Out of eight subclusters, seven subclusters contain strains from B. brevis, B. laterosporus, B. agri, B. reuszeri, B. choshinensis, B. formosus, and B. borstelensis. Another subcluster was further separated into two related clusters, which corresponded to B. centrosporus and B. parabrevis, and they were fused at the similarity of 76%. Cluster 2 was separated into two subclusters, which corresponded to B. aneurinolyticus and B. migulanus. The above eleven species showed characteristic patterns distinct from one another, and this correlated well with the published DNA relatedness data. The comparison of the electrophoretic whole-cell protein pattern proved to be useful for evaluation of taxonomic relationships among these taxa.  相似文献

Invasive species often have instable population dynamics and are known to collapse or oscillate heavily after passing through the initial lag/growth phases. Long-term data-series documenting these fluctuations are however rare. We use long-term (starting in the early 1960s), semi-quantitative data on the invasive signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus), capturing its population development after introduction in 44 Swedish lakes. In total 18 (41 %) of these populations had experienced a collapse. A stepwise discriminant function analysis including 20 different ecological or physicochemical characteristics identified three variables explaining collapses in the following order: stocking year, population age and mean air temperature. Populations stocked in the 1980s were more likely to collapse than populations stocked in the 1970s. Lakes with collapses were located in areas with 0.4 °C higher yearly mean air temperatures than the still viable populations. Collapses also depended on the time phase of the population and started to occur 12 years after stocking and were most frequent in the interval 16–20 years after stocking and after 11–15 years duration of the established phase with harvestable densities. An analysis of prevalence and pathogen load of Aphanomyces astaci was conducted in eight of the studied populations. A. astaci was present in all populations but neither the level of prevalence nor the pathogen load in infested specimens differed significantly between lakes with collapses and lakes without. Our results highlight the potential sensitivity and instability of introduced crayfish. The importance of density-dependence and temperature suggest that both climate variability and/or fisheries can influence these processes.  相似文献

Freshwater lakes play a crucial role in sustainability of ecosystem in the favour of communities flourishing around it. In this study, differential metagenomic evaluation of three freshwater ecosystems in Pakistan was carried out. These included Lakes Keenjhar, Rawal and Saif-ul-Muluk situated at the altitudes 21, 527, 3224 m respectively. Former two lakes serve as water reservoirs for three major cities of Pakistan, while the high-altitude Lake Saif-ul-Muluk is located in a pristine environment at the meeting point of Himalayan and Karakoram ranges. Next generation sequencing (NGS) of metagenomic DNA of microbial communities was carried out using surface water samples from these lakes by Illumina Hi-Seq 2500 sequencing technology. Bioinformatics analysis identified Proteobacteria as the most dominant phylum (58–79%) followed by Planctomycetes (34%), Cyanobacteria (12%) and Bacteroidetes (15%). Lake Saif-ul-Muluk contained highest abundance of bacterial genera including Vibrio, Bordetella, Pseudomonas, Burkholderia and Escherichia; while Microcystis were found to be abundant in Lakes Keenjhar and Rawal. Non-parametric multi-dimensional scaling (NMDS) principle component analysis on genus level revealed that these ecosystems were divergent from each other and from metagenomes of lakes in the Americas. Characterization of virulence factors and antibiotics resistant genes in metagenomic contigs were also identified. Chemical profiling of Lakes Keenjhar and Rawal showed higher concentration of phosphorus which indicated eutrophication in these lakes might be due to Microcystis infestation.  相似文献

Background

The Northern Great Plains of Canada are home to numerous permanent and ephemeral athalassohaline lakes. These lakes display a wide range of ion compositions, salinities, stratification patterns, and ecosystems. Many of these lakes are ecologically and economically significant to the Great Plains Region. A survey of the physical characteristics and chemistry of 19 lakes was carried out to assess their suitability for testing new tools for determining past salinity from the sediment record.

Results

Data on total dissolved solids (TDS), specific conductivity, temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), and pH were measured in June, 2007. A comparison of these data with past measurements indicates that salinity is declining at Little Manitou and Big Quill Lakes in the province of Saskatchewan. However salinity is rising at other lakes in the region, including Redberry and Manito Lakes.

Conclusion

The wide range of salinities found across a small geographic area makes the Canadian saline lakes region ideal for testing salinity proxies. A nonlinear increase in salinity at Redberry Lake is likely influenced by its morphometry. This acceleration has ecological implications for the migratory bird species found within the Redberry Important Bird Area.  相似文献

A new species of Pseudanabaena (Cyanoprokaryota, Oscillatoriales) from the plankton of North American large lakes is documented, with ecological and distributional data. This taxon differs from previously described Pseudanabaena species with respect to a characteristic undulating and coiling filament structure. Pseudanabaena contorta spec. nova appears to be specific to large North American Great Lakes with a drainage basin that is not totally Precambrian shield. Recently, it has been found as a consistent but minor component of the planktic cyanoprokaryote populations during the spring and summer months in Lake Superior and Lake Ontario. Comparisons are made with other common species of this genus as well as another undulating morphotype of the genus Glaucospira, that could possibly result in confusion, found in other large Alberta and northern Saskatchewan lakes.  相似文献

The diversity of Laurentian Great Lakes ciscoes (Coregonus artedi, sensu lato) arose via repeated local adaptive divergence including deepwater ciscoes that are now extirpated or threatened. The nigripinnis form, or Blackfin Cisco, is extirpated from the Great Lakes and remains only in Lake Nipigon. Putative nigripinnis populations were recently discovered in sympatry with artedi in a historical drainage system of glacial Lake Algonquin, the precursor of lakes Michigan and Huron. Given the apparent convergence on Great Lakes form, we labeled this form blackfin. Here, we test the hypothesis that nigripinnis may have colonized this area from the Great Lakes as a distinct lineage. It would then represent a relict occurrence of the historical diversity of Great Lakes ciscoes. Alternatively, blackfin could have evolved in situ in several lakes. We captured more than 600 individuals in the benthic or pelagic habitat in 14 lakes in or near Algonquin Provincial Park (Ontario, Canada). Fish were compared based on habitat, morphology, and genetic variation at 6,676 SNPs. Contrary to our expectations, both cisco and blackfin belonged to an Atlantic lineage that colonized the area from the east, not from the Great Lakes. Sympatric cisco and blackfin were closely related while fish from different lakes were genetically differentiated, strongly suggesting the repeated in situ origin of each form. Across lakes, there was a continuum of ecological, morphological, and genetic differentiation that could be associated with alternative resources and lake characteristics. This study uncovers a new component of cisco diversity in inland lakes of Canada that evolved independently from ciscoes of the Laurentian Great lakes. The diversity of cisco revealed in this study and across their Canadian range presents a challenge for designating conservation units at the intraspecific level within the framework of the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC).  相似文献

Species composition and density of cladoceran populations changed in Lakes Zürich, St. Mortiz and Baldegg as human populations increased in these watersheds. Lake Zürich sediments became annually laminated in the 1890's as a result of increased organic input as the size of the cities surrounding the lake grew. At the same time, the Bosmina species changed from a oligotrophic form (longispina) to a eutrophic form (longirostris). An increase in Daphnia spp. populations also occurred at this time in the lake's history. Bosmina longispina reappeared in the lake in 1965 as the lake's trophic status changed from eutrophic to mesotrophic due to effective sewage treatment facilities. Annual laminations appear in the Lake St. Moritz sediments about 1910. Shortly thereafter, a shift from B. longispina to B. longirostris occurred. This change in trophic status is associated with increased tourism in the area. Lake Baldegg sediments also show annual laminations beginning in 1885 and a similar shift in the Bosmina species. Other cladoceran remains were too scarce to be useful in interpreting the histories of these lakes.  相似文献

The internally transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences of 21 Arthrospira clonal strains from four continents and assigned to four different species (A. platensis, A. maxima, A. fusiformis, A. indica) in the culture collections were determined. Two main clusters, I and II, were differentiated by 49 positions out of 475 nt or 477 nt, respectively. Each cluster was further subdivided into two subclusters. Subclusters I.A and I.B were separated by two substitutions, whereas subclusters II.A and II.B were distinguished by four substitutions. After direct sequencing of the PCR products, three dried samples from Chad aged between 3 months and 35 years yielded a sequence belonging to subcluster I.A, as did a recent commercial product. The strains grown in production plants belonged to the same (sub)clusters as strains from culture collections, mainly I.A and II. PCR primers specific for each cluster and subcluster were designed and tested with crude cell lysates of Arthrospira strains. One dried sample (“dihé” 1) and a herbarium sample from Lake Sonachi (Kenya) only contained I.A sequences, whereas the commercial product was a mixture of the four genotypes and the other two dried samples contained minor polymorphisms characteristic of different clusters. Five clonal Arthrospira strains, thought to be duplicates, showed the simultaneous presence of the two forms of the four diagnostic positions that distinguish subclusters genotype II.A and genotype II.B. This is likely to be caused by multiple copies of the rDNA operon, in a intermediate stage of homogenization between subcluster II.A and subcluster II.B. The high conservation of ITS sequences is in contrast with the assignment to four different species, the great morphological variability of the strains, and their wide geographic distribution.  相似文献

Müller et al. (1998) noted that freshwater collections of the genus Bangia formed a distinct group separate from marine entities in gene sequence analyses. Recently, the species epithet B. atropurpurea has been resurrected to represent this freshwater lineage. This taxon is one of many invasive species within the Laurentian Great Lakes. B. atropurpurea was first observed in Lake Erie in 1964 and by 1982 was observed in all of the Great lakes except Lake Superior. The present study was initiated to examine the further spread of B. atropurpurea and determine the origin of these populations. Hence, a survey of all the Great Lakes was conducted in 1995 (86 sites) and again in 2002 (104 sites). Bangia was observed at 43 sites in 1995 and 39 sites in 2002. For the first time, this alga has been observed to be present in the St. Lawrence River (1995), Georgian Bay on Lake Huron (2002) and Lake Simcoe (eastern shore, 2002) and hence this alga appears to be spreading into new locations. Cluster analyses of morphological data reveal three distinct groupings that do not separate according to location or lake basin. Preliminary analyses of ITS 1 and 2 sequences show differences among samples within Lake Ontario and among all Lakes; however, collections from Lake Simcoe are very similar in sequence. We are continuing to examine the relationship of Great Lakes populations with freshwater collections from Europe.  相似文献

Depth distributions and inventories of137Cs (mCi km2) were determined in sediment from several fresh water lakes in the New York State Adirondack Preserve. Included were Big Moose and Darts Lakes, part of the North Branch of the Moose River system, as well as North, Sagamore, South, and Woods Lakes and the seepage pond, Tamarack Lake. Comparisons were made between the137Cs inventories in these lakes and large inpoundments in the Adirondacks (Hinkley, Great Sacandaga, Stillwater and Cranberry Lake Reservoirs) and other large impoundments and lakes located in various regions of the U.S., especially Cayuga Lake, Ithaca, NY.None of the Adirondack Lakes had137Cs distributions with depth in sediment that closely resembled the deposition pattern of weapons testing as a function of time. All of the natural lakes and small impoundments, including the seepage pond, were found to have significantly lower inventories of137Cs than expected; while the large reservoirs were generally enhanced in137Cs. We suggest that more than one mechanism may be responsible for the low sediment inventories: for the majority of lakes, flushing of137Cs out of the lakes during periods of thermal stratification and ice thaw; and for the seepage pond, remobilization of137Cs into the water column due to biological recycling.  相似文献

Blanding’s turtle, Emys blandingii, is a globally endangered species with a range centred on the Great Lakes of North America. Several disjunct populations also occur along the East Coast of North America. Previous studies suggest that the Great Lakes portion of the species’ range exhibits panmixia. However, E. blandingii is restricted to relatively small populations in many areas around the Great Lakes. Therefore, panmixia across large geographic distances in this area is unlikely. Here, we apply Bayesian analyses of population structure to samples collected across southern Ontario (N = 97) to test a null hypothesis of panmixia and assess possible management units (MUs), and to estimate rates of gene flow across the study area. Sampled sites in Ontario represent a minimum of four distinct genetic clusters of E. blandingii, which we recommend should be considered as independent MUs. Preliminary evidence suggests that further structure may be present in less robustly sampled areas, which deserve further consideration. Genetic diversity at sampled sites is comparable to that reported for other freshwater turtles. Our comparison between this study and previous work confirms that genetic diversity in E. blandingii is reduced in disjunct eastern populations compared to populations centred on the Great Lakes. Genetic diversity in E. blandingii is not correlated with latitude, and instead may reflect post-glacial dispersal of this species from multiple Pleistocene glacial refugia.  相似文献

The existence of multiple independently derived populations in landlocked marine lakes provides an opportunity for fundamental research into the role of isolation in population divergence and speciation in marine taxa. Marine lakes are landlocked water bodies that maintain a marine character through narrow submarine connections to the sea and could be regarded as the marine equivalents of terrestrial islands. The sponge Suberites diversicolor (Porifera: Demospongiae: Suberitidae) is typical of marine lake habitats in the Indo-Australian Archipelago. Four molecular markers (two mitochondrial and two nuclear) were employed to study genetic structure of populations within and between marine lakes in Indonesia and three coastal locations in Indonesia, Singapore and Australia. Within populations of S. diversicolor two strongly divergent lineages (A & B) (COI: p = 0.4% and ITS: p = 7.3%) were found, that may constitute cryptic species. Lineage A only occurred in Kakaban lake (East Kalimantan), while lineage B was present in all sampled populations. Within lineage B, we found low levels of genetic diversity in lakes, though there was spatial genetic population structuring. The Australian population is genetically differentiated from the Indonesian populations. Within Indonesia we did not record an East-West barrier, which has frequently been reported for other marine invertebrates. Kakaban lake is the largest and most isolated marine lake in Indonesia and contains the highest genetic diversity with genetic variants not observed elsewhere. Kakaban lake may be an area where multiple putative refugia populations have come into secondary contact, resulting in high levels of genetic diversity and a high number of endemic species.  相似文献
