ACactoblastis sp. was found on Harrisia cactus (Eriocereus martinii Lab.) in north-eastern Argentina. In biology and life history it is similar toCactoblastis cactorum (Berg.) though attacking different cacti. Laboratory tests and field observations demonstrate that it will only damage plants in the sub-tribeCereanae of theCactaceae. It was approved for liberation in Queensland, Australia in August 1975 for the control ofEriocereus spp., and field releases were made in October 1978.  相似文献

In Madagascar, the leaf feeding Pyralid,Euclasta whalleyi Popescu-Gorj & Constantinescu, occurs onCryptostegia grandiflora R. Br. and other genera in the subfamilyPeriplocoideae of the familyAsclepiadaceae. Studies on its biology and host plant specificity have shown it is restricted to this subfamily. The Australian native,Gymnanthera nitida R. Br., also belongs to this sub-family and is host to an Australian native moth,Euclasta maceratalis Lederer. Despite the likelihood ofE. whalleyi feeding onG. nitida and competing withE. maceratalis, the moth was approved for release in Australia in October 1987. Bembecia chrysidiformis (Esper) [Lep.: Sesiidae] was examined for its natural history and specificity toRumex spp. (Polygonaceae) which are weeds in Australia. Adults of this southern European insect appear in late spring to summer. Eggs are laid on the dried, seed bearing stems of perennialRumex plants. The larvae tunnel inside the root during summer through to the next spring. In nature, the larvae are round inRumex species of the subgeneraRumex andAcetosa. In host-specificity tests with 1st instar larvae, the roots of a number of genera within thePolygonaceae were attacked. Larvae died on a range of plants from other families except inPersea americana Miller(Lauraceae), Helianthemum nummularium (L.) Miller (Cistaceae) andQuercus ilex L. (Fagaceae) where larvae fed on the stems. The insect was judged safe for release in Australia by assessing aspects of its biology, its known host plants, and the lack of reported attack on other plants.   相似文献

Abstract

The novel N-bridgehead formycin analog 3- β-D-ribofuranosyl-8-amino-s-triazolo [4, 3-a] pyridine (8a-aza-4, 6-dideaza formycin) has been prepared from 5- [2, 3, 5-tri-O-benzoyl- β-D-ribofuranosyl] - (2H)-tetrazole and 2-chloro-3-nitropyridine. The synthetic route used an initial condensation followed by deprotection and subsequent hydrogenation to afford 2a. 2-Hydroxyethoxymethyl group, an acyclic group, that mimics the ribofuranose unit was also introduced. These compounds were tested against type 1 herpes and poliovirus in tissue culture and their effect on cellular RNA and DNA synthesis was determined. All derivatives possess considerable cytotoxic effect which is expressed more with ribofuranosyl derivatives.  相似文献

In an attempt to delineate the binding site(s) of monellin to the receptor by means of a structure-taste relationship, we synthesized four monellin analogues, [AsnA16]-, [AsnA22]-, [GlnA25]-, and [AsnA26]-monellin, which were 7500, 750, 2500, and 5500 times as sweet as sucrose on a weight basis, respectively. Among them, [AsnA22]monellin and [GlnA25]monellin were less sweet than monellin, and were susceptible to the HPLC conditions used. It can be concluded that Asp16, Asp22, Glu25, and Asp26 residues of the A chain did not participate in binding with the receptor, since the sweet taste was not removed by replacing the amino acid residues with Asn or Gln. It can also be concluded that Asp22 and Glu25 of the A chain may have participated in intramolecular binding, as was pointed out by Kim et al., since exchanging Asp22 and Glu25 of the A chain with Asn and Gln significantly decreased the stability in solution.  相似文献

The metabolism of [1-(14)C]glyoxylate to carbon dioxide, glycine, oxalate, serine, formate and glycollate was investigated in hyperoxaluric and control subjects' kidney and liver tissue in vitro. 2. Only glycine and carbon dioxide became significantly labelled with (14)C, and this was less in the hyperoxaluric patients' kidney tissue than in the control tissue. 3. Liver did not show this difference. 4. The metabolism of [1-(14)C]glycollate was also studied in the liver tissue; glyoxylate formation was demonstrated and the formation of (14)CO(2) from this substrate was likewise unimpaired in the hyperoxaluric patients' liver tissue in these experiments. 5. Glycine was not metabolized by human kidney, liver or blood cells under the conditions used. 6. These observations show that glyoxylate metabolism by the kidney is impaired in primary hyperoxaluria.  相似文献

Artificial and modified natural hosts were exposed to females of the gypsy moth [Lymantria dispar (L.)] hyperparasite,Eurytoma appendigaster (Swederus), to investigate its host recognition behavior on the primary host, which are cocooned larvae of the gypsy moth parasite,Cotesia melanoscela (Ratzeburg). Material(s) which caused drilling behavior by the hyperparasite on host cocoons were extracted with both polar and non-polar solvents. However, cocoons washed with large volumes of solvent still caused substantial drilling activities by females, suggesting that additional cues may be important. Results suggest that host recognition in this hyperparasite involves a variety of host characteristics.   相似文献

[Tyr22] glucagon and [desHis1, Tyr22] glucagon were synthesized by an improved solid phase procedure on a Pam-resin. The course of the synthesis was monitored by quantitative ninhydrin analysis and preview sequencing. Following cleavage by the low/high HF method the peptides were purified by ion exchange chromatography and reverse phase HPLC. The overall yield of homogeneous isolated peptide from the first amino acid was 41%. Circular dichroism measurements on dilute solutions in mixed aqueous organic solvents at pH 2, 6.9 and 9.2 showed increased beta-sheet structure relative to glucagon. [Tyr22] glucagon was a full agonist with 20-30% activity in the rabbit blood glucose assay and 10% activity in the rat liver membrane adenyl cyclase assay. [desHis1, Tyr22] glucagon had only a trace of activity in the adenyl cyclase assay (less than 0.002%) but bound to membranes in a competitive [125I] glucagon assay 1.0% as well as glucagon. The analog completely inhibited formation of cAMP by natural glucagon, with 50% inhibition at a ratio of 83:1 and pA2 = 6.7. The data are discussed in terms of models of glucagon structure in dilute solution.  相似文献

The greatly improved sensitivity resulting from the use of TROSY during 15N evolution and amide proton acquisition enables the recording of HNCA spectra of large proteins with constant-time 13C evolution. In [13C]-ct-[15N,1H]-TROSY-HNCA experiments with a 2H/13C/15N-labeled 110 kDa protein, 7,8-dihydroneopterin aldolase from Staphylococcus aureus, nearly all correlation peaks seen in the [15N,1H]-TROSY-HNCA spectrum were also detected. The improved resolution in the 13C dimension then enabled a significant number of sequential assignments that could not be obtained with [15N,1H]-TROSY-HNCA without [13C]-constant-time period.  相似文献
