The concept of evolution of ontogenesis by I. I. Shmal'gauzen is presented as a result of reviewing some of his theoretical works. This concept appears to be the most consistent development of classical darwinism on the basis of a basically new (as compared with synthetic theory of evolution) evolutionary-synthetic approach. This latter has been based on the idea of the organism integrity in onto- and phylogenesis and the involvement of the organismic level (ontogenesis), together with the population and biocoenotic ones, in the evolutionary process as a whole.  相似文献

Evo-devo is considered a special field of knowledge emphasizing the role of developmental processes and mechanisms in evolution and integrating the data of many disciplines studying various structural levels of biosphere organization. A mechanical approach to estimation of events is regarded as a specific feature of the evo-devo concept. In our opinion, the I.I. Schmalhausen concept of the evolution of ontogeny, opposing the reductionist approach of many contemporary evo-devo adherents, can be regarded as the fundamental basis of evo-devo.  相似文献

I. I. Mechnikoff's contribution to various aspects of immunology is evaluated. The 25 years' struggle of this scientist for the existence of phagocytosis theory is briefly described. Works of I. I. Mechnikoff dealing with several factors of humoral immunity and cytotoxins are reviewed. The significance of I. I. Mechnikoff's studies providing analysis of immune processes in the phylogenetic sense as well as his ideas about the nervous system role in immunity processes is stressed.  相似文献

Cyanobacterial photosystem (PS) I is remarkably similar to its counterpart in the chloroplast of plants and algae. Therefore, it has served as a prototype for the type I reaction centers of photosynthesis. Cyanobacterial PS I contains 11-12 proteins. Some of the cyanobacterial proteins are modified post-translationally. Reverse genetics has been used to generate subunit-deficient cyanobacterial mutants, phenotypes of which have revealed the functions of the missing proteins. The cyanobacterial PS I proteins bind cofactors, provide docking sites for electron transfer proteins, participate in tertiary and quaternary organization of the complex and protect the electron transfer centers. Many of these mutants are now being used in sophisticated structure-function analyses. Yet, the roles of some proteins of the cyanobacterial PS I are unknown. It is necessary to examine functions of these proteins on a global scale of cell physiology, biogenesis and evolution.  相似文献

Thresholds of the Non-Pacinian I (NP I) channel were measured using a two-interval forced-choice paradigm, a technique independent of the subject's criterion. The studies were performed using the terminal phalanx of the human middle finger with a 40-Hz vibratory stimulus. Unlike most of the previous experiments performed in our laboratory, a contactor surround was not used. This was done to enable comparison with population models of mechanoreceptive fibers in the literature. Since the Pacinian (P) channel and NP I channel have similar vibrotactile thresholds at 40?Hz, a forward-masking procedure was used to elevate the thresholds of the P channel with respect to the NP I channel. While it has been established that the Pacinian fibers are entrained at high stimulus levels, the P channel can be perceptually masked using a 250-Hz stimulus presented prior to the 40-Hz test stimulus. The masking functions were found to be approximately linear on log-log axes and the threshold shifts were found to increase as the masking-stimulus levels increased. The results are discussed in relation to previous studies that were performed at various stimulation sites by using a contactor surround or not. A companion paper presents the variation of NP I-channel thresholds, measured using the methods described herein, and addresses the effects of stimulation along the proximo-distal axis of the phalanx. The companion paper also discusses the predictions of a computational model, recently proposed, in light of the empirical results presented.  相似文献
