SUMMARY. The effects of temperature on development and growth are described for the common Cladocera and Copepoda in Tjeukemeer. Eight cladoceran species and five copepod species have been investigated: Daphnia hyalina, Daphnia cucullata, Bosmina coregoni, Bosmina longirostris, Chydorus sphaericus, Ceriodaphnia pulchella, Diaphanosoma brachyurum, Leptodora kindtii, Acanthocyclops robustus, Mesocydops leuckarti, Diacyclops bicuspidatus, Cyclops vicinus vicinus and Eurytemora affinis . Growth is expressed as length increment per size class (cladocerans) or instar (copepods) per week and as the relationship between time and length. The curvilinear logarithmic equation: In D = In a + b (In T)2 is fitted to the development times of eggs, combined naupliar instars and combined copepodite instars, as well as to the longevity of the adults. The results are compared with those found in the literature and differences are discussed.  相似文献

The following method is used for maintaining a laboratory supply of freshwater cyclopoid copepods with intervening diapause phase. Animals are collected with a core sampler from the upper sediment surface just after initiation of diapause, i.e. during early summer for summer resting species and mid autumn for winter resting species. The method makes it possible at all times of the year to keep a variety of cyclopoid copepod species ready for experimental work. The following widespread species have been used: Mesocyclops leuckarti, Thermocyclops oithonoides, Diacyclops bicuspidatus, Cyclops vicinus, C. strenuus and C. abyssorum. Probably all cyclopoid copepods with a diapause phase could be stored according to the present method.  相似文献

1. The interactions between calanoid and cyclopoid copepods were examined in an 11-year field study of a eutrophic lake (Heiligensee, Berlin, Germany).
2. A diminishing ratio of calanoids to cyclopoids was observed. The responses, however, were species specific. While two cyclopoid species responded with increased populations ( Cyclops vicinus, Thermocyclops oithonoides ), one species exhibited marked declines ( C. kolensis ). Other species extended the duration of their pelagic phase ( Mesocyclops leuckarti, Diacyclops bicuspidatus, T. oithonoides, C. vicinus ), leading to higher population overlaps. Eudiaptomus graciloides and E. gracilis, which used to be present throughout the year, were more frequently absent.
3. These changes coincided with a series of mild winters during which prey availability (algae and rotifers) was high.
4. Enhanced prey availability, in conjunction with a flexible diapausing strategy, are hypothesized to underly the increased success of C. vicinus . Predatory losses due to early occurrence and enhanced abundances of C. vicinus, rather than competition for the same food resources, are hypothesized to be responsible for the declines of C. kolensis and Eudiaptomus .
5. Summer species tended to develop higher abundances early in the season, which led to enhanced seasonal means during spring. These changes cannot be explained by the interaction between calanoids and cyclopoids alone, but were probably a result of changes in fish predation.  相似文献

The duration times of eggs, combined naupliar instars and of the different copepodite stages of five species of cyclopoid copepods — Acanthocyclops robustus, Cyclops vicinus, Diacyclops bicuspidatus, Mesocyclops leuckarti, and Thermocyclops crassus — were investigated at five different temperatures. The five species can be divided in two groups: two species, C. vicinus and D. bicuspidatus, adapted to cold water conditions and three species, A. robustus, M. leuckarti and T. crassus adapted to warm water conditions. The cold water species showed a faster egg development than M. leuckarti and T. crassus at 5–15 °C. The eggs and instars of the warm water species M. leuckarti tend to develop faster than those of the former two species at higher temperatures. A. robustus showed the shortest egg and instar development at 10–25 °C. The warm water species T. crassus produced no eggs at 10 °C and temperatures below. At higher temperatures (20, 25 °C) the egg and instar duration times were similar or longer than those of the other species. When cultured in total darkness a great part of the CIV respectively CV copepodites of the summer forms entered arrest and the percentage of copepodites that showed an arrest of development was highest at lowest temperatures. The present results are compared with data from literature and differences are discussed.  相似文献

The zooplankton fauna of the Zeeschelde estuary (Belgium) wasinvestigated over 10 months by means of monthly sampling. CanonicalCorrespondence Analysis (CCA) was used to relate the speciesdistribution to environmental factors. The variation in thespecies data was significantly (P < 0.05) related to a setof 10 environmental variables (chlorinity, NH4+, temperature,PO4-P-, DW, Chl a and Chl b, NO2-N, NO3-N and pH). The mainspatial and seasonal gradients were associated with chlorinityand temperature respectively. The brackish water zone was dominatedby the calanoid Eurytemora affinis in spring, succeeded by Acartiatonsa and mysid species during summer. In the freshwater transect,cyclopoids dominated, together with several cladoceran species.Thermophilic cyclopoid species (Thermocyclops oithonoides, Th.crassus and Mesocyclops leuckarti) occurred during periods ofmaximal temperature. The cyclopoids Acanthocyclops robustus,Paracyclops poppei and Cyclops vicinus, the cladocerans Daphnialongispina, Chydorus sphaericus and Bosmina longirostris togetherwith the numerically dominant rotifers, oligochaetes, nematodesand juvenile copepods seemed little affected by environmentalgradients.  相似文献

A method of estimating the population density of bream in Tjeukemeer (21.3 km2) using 16 690 introduced fish (fin-clipped and opercular tagged) is described. Gill nets of the winter fishery proved to be a more effective method of sampling the population for marked fish than fyke nets. The population density of bream (⋝25 cm) was estimated to be 180 000. There was no significant difference between the estimates derived from fin-clipped and opercular tagged fish. The growth rate of bream in Tjeukemeer (L=41 cm) is poor compared with that of bream in other waters, due to its high density and the scarcity of zoobenthos available to it.
The production of bream (I–XV) is estimated to be 34 kg ha−1 of which 25% is contributed by two (1959, 1963) strong year classes. Of a total biomass of 37.5 kg ha−1 available to the fishery in 1969 only 2.7 kg ha−l was removed as yield. The average P/B ratio for the population was low (0.39). It is concluded that a major flow of energy to bream is through zooplankton.  相似文献

本文主要论述1980—1982年武汉东湖桡足类生物量及生产量的测算结果。三周年来在东湖Ⅰ、Ⅱ采样站上共观察到5种剑水蚤:广布中剑水蚤(Mesocyclops leuckarti)、近邻剑水蚤(Cyclops vicinus vicinus)、透明温剑水蚤(Thermocyclops hyalinus)、台湾温剑水蚤(Thermocyclops taihokuensis)、锯缘真剑水蚤(Eucyclops serrulatus)和5种哲水蚤:球状许水蚤(Schmackeria forbesi)特异荡镖水蚤(Neutrodiaptomus incongruens)、右突新鏢水蚤(Neodiaptomus schmackeria)、中华原鏢水蚤(Eodiaptomus sinensis)、汤匙华哲水蚤(Sinocalanus dorrii)。其总年平均生物量为321.74毫克干重/平方米。其中剑水蚤为194.70毫克干重/平方米,占60.51%;哲水蚤为127.04毫克干重/平方米,占39.49%。总年生产量为16.959克干重/平方米。其中剑水蚤为11.225克干重/平方米,占66.19%;哲水蚤为5.734克干重/平方米,占33.81%。年P/B比为52.55;其中剑水蚤为57.63,哲水蚤为46.02。各发育阶段的年平均生物量以桡足幼体最高,其次为无节幼体,卵最低。年生产量则以无节幼体最高,其次为桡足幼体,卵最低。从各种类所占总年平均生物量、年生产量的百分比值来看,广布中剑水蚤的比值最大,其次为球状许水蚤、近邻剑水蚤和特异荡鏢水蚤。    相似文献

2007年1-12月对淮河中游浮游甲壳动物群落结构的季节动态进行研究。共记录浮游甲壳动物24种, 其中枝角类8属13种、桡足类9属11种。枝角类在4月和9月形成两个峰值, 即(28.2±21.6) ind/L和(40.8±10.1) ind/L, 其优势种分别为僧帽溞 Daphnia cucullata和脆弱象鼻溞 Bosmina fatalis。捕食性桡足类-近邻剑水蚤Cyclops vicinus vicinus、广布中剑水蚤Mesocyclops leuckarti和台湾温剑水蚤Thermocyclops taihokuensis分别在4月、5月和6月形成较大的密度。汤匙华哲水蚤Sinocalanus dorrii和中华窄腹剑水蚤Limnoithona sinensis分别在5月和8月占优势。小型浮游植物(≤20 μm)生物量在4月达到最大值, 之后快速下降, 而较大型浮游植物(>20 μm)生物量从4月上升, 到7月达到最大值。典型冗余分析(RDA)显示, 溞属Daphnia的仲春下降与捕食性桡足类(尤其是近邻剑水蚤)的摄食压力、浮游植物生物量的季节变化密切相关。    相似文献

ABSTRACT. In laboratory-laid eggs of the striped ground cricket, Allonemobius fasciatus DeGeer (Gryllidae), water absorption occurs at an early stage of embryogenesis (stage II) at 30°C but is delayed until later stages at lower temperatures. This is related to the variation in diapause stage at different temperatures. No egg developed beyond stage VII (the end of anatrepsis) without water absorption.
A. fasciatus shows seasonal variation in the stage of water absorption. At 30°C, eggs collected in August absorb water at the early stage while many of those collected in September avert diapause and absorb water at a later stage.
Diapause also influenced the water absorption of eggs in A. socius Scudder. Eggs of short-day females enter diapause and absorb water at stage II, while those of long-day females develop without diapause and absorb water at a later stage (around stage IV).
The susceptibility to desiccation (r.h. 50%) was examined at 20°C with A. fasciatus eggs. The percentage water loss and mortality of eggs varied with the time and duration of exposure to desiccation. Eggs are most sensitive to desiccation during the first several days after being laid and during the period of water absorption.  相似文献

1. We report on a long-term study (1975–94) of water temperatures and plankton in a eutrophic lake (Heiligensee, Berlin, Germany). Using a phenomenological approach, we use historical data to infer how an increase in air temperature has influenced a natural zooplankton community.
2. Air temperatures in Berlin showed a significantly rising trend between 1975 and 1994. Mean winter air temperatures in the last 8 years always exceeded the long-term mean.
3. A rising trend was also found for April water temperature, which increased significantly beginning in 1988–89. An increase of 2.58°C in the last 21 years was recorded using a linear model. A significantly decreasing trend was found in June but no trend was noted for the other summer months.
4. Phytoplankton composition shifted from a dominance of diatoms and cryptophytes during winter and spring in the 1980s towards a dominance of cyanobacteria in 1990–94.
5. The dominant zooplankton species in spring shifted in recent years from the large-bodied Daphnia galeata to the smaller D. cucullata . Cyclops kolensis , previously the only invertebrate predator during winter, decreased in abundance while C. vicinus , usually present during spring and autumn, increased in abundance and was numerous during winter, a season passed in diapause in the earlier years.
6. Because direct and indirect temperature effects are species specific, we put forward the hypothesis that zooplankton species, rather than functional groups, are the nexus between environmental stress, such as rising air temperatures, and ecosystem changes.  相似文献

Asobara tabida Nees (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is a widespread parasitoid, attacking larvae ofDrosophila (Diptera: Drosophilidae) species in fermenting substrates. In this species, geographic variation is found in the percentage of parasitoids entering diapause and in the sex ratio of emerging parasitoids. Percentage diapause appears to be influenced by host species (more parasitoids enter diapause inD. melanogaster Meigen than inD. subobscura Collin) and temperature. It is not correlated with any of the abiotic factors investigated, but is correlated with survival probability inD. melanogaster larvae and with the time of year in which the experiment was conducted (even though none of the parasitoids experienced natural day light). Sex ratio was only found to correlate with percentage diapause, suggesting that males enter diapause more frequently than females. It is concluded thatA. tabida uses diapause to survive both unfavourable abiotic and biotic circumstances.  相似文献

By analyzing isofemale strains extracted from a natural population of Nasonia vitripennis, we detected variation for the sex ratios produced in fresh hosts (first sex ratios) and in previously parasitized hosts (second sex ratios). Under simple assumptions of population structure, this between-strain heterogeneity of first sex ratios results in heterogeneity of fitnesses. There is approximately ten percent difference in average fitnesses between the strains. (The fitnesses of second sex ratios are analyzed in the accompanying paper.) Average first and average second sex ratios are uncorrelated. There is significant between-female heterogeneity within some strains for first sex ratios but not for second sex ratios. In addition, the average direct-developing and diapause first sex ratios (but not second sex ratios) are significantly correlated. There are significant correlations between the direct-developing and diapause sex ratios produced by the same female. The strains differ in their effects on the sex ratio and size of another female's brood in the same host. Data on these types of variation for sex ratio traits are essential for further progress in the study of sex ratio evolution.  相似文献

Differences in breeding, population structure, dispersion and habitat are described between various species and subspecies of wallaroo (Macropus robustus robustus; M. r. cervinus; M. r. alligatoris; M. r. erubescens; Macropus antilopinus; Macropus bernardus).
Pouch young of Macropus robustus erubescens in western New South Wales were born throughout the year, while in both M. r. alligatoris and M. antilopinus then Northern Territory, most pouch young found were born during March and April.
In the populations of wallaroos in western New South Wales and the Northern Territory where there had been no systematic shooting of wallaroos for many years, 11|X% of the animals were immature. In the New England district of New South Wales where regular shooting occurs, 46|X% of the animals were immature.
The habitat of M. r. alligatoris of the Northern Territory was very similar to that of M. erubescens in inland Australia, amongst rocky hills and gullies. M. antilopinus , which is sympatric with M. r. alligatoris in the Northern Territory, also occurred in the rocky hills, but it was also found in open savannah woodland in flat and gently undulating country.
M. r. erubescens and M. r. alligatoris were almost always seen alone or in pairs, while M. antilopinus often formed larger groups.  相似文献

A method of estimating the population density of roach in Tjeukemeer (21.3 km2) using 20 529 introduced fin-clipped fish is described. Fyke nets proved to be an effective method of sampling the population for marked fish during the spawning season. A total of 20 277 roach were processed during the recapturing period. The population density of roach (⋝ 14 cm) was estimated to be 1 246 458. The growth rate of roach in the lake although relatively poor (von Bertalanffy's L ∞ for males and females, 22 and 26 cm respectively) for the species was similar to that recorded in three other Friesian lakes. The mortality rate of males was higher than that of females. Logarithmic length-weight regression analyses showed that the value of the coefficient varied both within and between the sexes, that of females being higher (range 3.03–3.375) than that of males (range 2.76–3.254). Seasonal changes in the size of the coefficient were due to a disproportionate loss of gonad weight in larger fish. The fecundity of the population was comparatively high for the species.
The total production of the population was estimated to be 95 hg ha−1 of which 39 kg ha−1 was contributed by fry. In older (⋝ IV) fish the production of females (12 kg ha−1) exceeded that (2 kg ha−1) of males, due to differences in their growth and mortality rates. The relatively poor performance of roach in Tjeukemeer, in terms of biomass and production was due to a scarcity of zoobenthos and competition from other species offish. There is no evidence either from this study or the literature that the productive potential of roach in lakes is high, even though macrophytes and detritus can be consumed in significant amounts.  相似文献

We detected significant parent-offspring regressions for the first sex ratio (the sex ratio produced by a female in a fresh host) and the second sex ratio (the sex ratio produced by a female in a previously parasitized host) in the parasitic wasp, Nasonia vitripennis. For both traits, estimates of the narrow-sense heritability range from &0.05 to &0.15 (depending on how the data are analyzed). The study population was derived from isofemale strains created from wasps captured in a single bird nest. The same population exhibited no significant parent-offspring regression for the brood sizes associated with the first and second sex ratios. There may be a significant negative parent-offspring regression for diapause proportion in the first sex ratio broods. The estimates of the genetic correlations between first and second sex ratios are positive although almost all are not significantly different from 0.0. To our knowledge, this study is the first ``fine-scale' analysis of genetic variation for sex ratio traits in any species of insect. Such studies are an essential part of the assessment of the validity of claims that sex ratio traits are locally optimal.  相似文献

The vertical and horizontal distribution of Copepoda and Cladocerain Tjeukemeer were studied. Indices of dispersion are discussed,the sample variance of log-transformed data proved to be anappropriate way to quantify patchiness. Indices of dispersionwere calculated to express species specific differences. Onlyduring short periods of the year the population densities appearedto be influenced by canals and pumping stations that bring waterto the lake. Dispersion values were influenced by windspeed,inhomogenities in the chlorophyll-a concentrations and by thepopulation densities of the populations studied. Sample variancesare relatively low, compared with those of other lakes.  相似文献

A study of eel catches from Lesina (444 specimens) and Varano lagoons (325 specimens), in southern Adriatic, Italy, was made. Male silver eels in Lesina ranged from 33.4–51.5 cm in length, with a mean of 42.6 cm; from 50–240 g in weight, with a mean of 141 g and were 1.5–6.5 years old with a mean of 2.5 years. The average length of male silver eels in Varano lagoon was 40.5 cm (range 31–48.5 cm); the average weight was 122 g (range 80–220 g)and a mean age of 2.6 years (range 1.5–7.5 years).
The females are bigger, heavier and older than the males with, in Lesina, a mean length of 61 cm (range 50.9–74.3 cm), a mean weight of 438 g (range 240–730 g) and a mean age of 3.4 years (range 1.5–6.5). The average length of Varano female silver eels was 58 cm (range 50.8–72.5 cm), and the average weight was 383 g (range 225–840 g). They were 1.5–7.5 years old, with an average of 3.8 years. Female silver eels were only 20% of the population at Lesina and 10% at Varano.
In comparison with the silver eel populations of the North Adriatic lagoons, the North Sea or the Atlantic Ocean, the silver eels of Lesina and Varano show a greater growth rate, are younger and have a sex ratio in favour of the males.
The water temperature, higher than in other countries, could be an important factor affecting the differences in age and growth rates between Lesina and Varano silver eels and those of other waters.  相似文献

The infections of emerging damselfly cohorts by ectoparasitic water mites Arrenurus cuspidator were followed closely over two years in two populations. In one pond Coenagrion puella was the single host species, whereas in the second pond C. hastulatum co-occurred. The prevalences found were close to 100%. The mean daily abundance of mites ranged from I to 45 mites per host with a peak after roughly one third of the emergence period.
The water mites displayed a clumped distribution on their hosts measured by the variance/mean ratio. No differences in parasite abundance due to host sex, head width, or host species could be detected. The abundance of mites was synchronised with host's emergence patterns. This was stronger in the system with two host species. Shaw and Dobson recently showed a generalised relationship of variance/mean of parasite abundance combining data from 269 host parasite systems. The data presented here and some other water mite associations show a significant deviation from this general rule.  相似文献

In much of the arid rangelands of Australia the common large mammalian herbivores are the native marsupials, the Red kangaroo ( Megalein rufa ) and the Euro ( Mucropus robustus ), and the introduced eutherian species, the domestic sheep ( Ovis aries ) and the feral goat ( Capra hircus ). In the north west of New South Wales a study was carried out to examine the patterns of water usage during summer of these species when they were free ranging in the same area. Drinking frequencies, water turnovers, electrolyte concentrations and diet preferences were determined and information obtained on movements and dispersal from watering points.
The marsupials had a much lower water usage than either of the eutherians. The tritiated water turnover of the goats was three times and that of the sheep four times the value obtained for kangaroos. While much of the difference between the marsupials and eutherians appeared to be due to fundamental physiological differences the high water usage of sheep was in part related to the high intake of halophytic plants in their diet.
The water turnovers of the Red kangaroos and Euros were not found to be different. Drinking studies and urine osmolalities suggested, however, that the open plains dwelling Red kangaroos had a higher water requirement than the hill inhabiting Euro.
The principal components of the diets of the Red kangaroo were grasses; of the Euro, grasses and shrubs; of goats, trees and shrubs; of sheep, halophytic shrubs.  相似文献
