A gas-phase biofilter inoculated with the fungus Fusarium solani, isolated from a consortium grown on hexane vapors, was used to degrade this compound. The biofilter, packed with perlite and operated with an empty bed residence time of 60 s, was supplied with hexane concentrations between 0.5 gm(-3) and 11 gm(-3). Biofilter performance was evaluated over 100 days of operation. Several strategies for supplying the nutritive mineral medium were assayed to maintain favorable conditions for the fungal growth and activity. The Fusarium system was able to sustain an average elimination capacity of 90 gm(-3)(reactor) h(-1) with a maximum of 130 gm(-3)(reactor) h(-1) . The mass transfer limitations due to high biomass development in the biofilter were confirmed in batch experiments. Bacterial contamination was observed, but experiments in the biofilter and in batch reactors using selective inhibitors and controlled pH confirmed the predominant role of the fungus. Results indicate that fungal biofilters can be an effective alternative to conventional abatement technologies for treating hydrophobic compounds. 相似文献

AbstractCadmium is one of the most toxic contaminant causing many problems to human health and the environment. These days the world is moving toward ecofriendly and efficient techniques to remove the pollutant from the wastewater. The present study aims to investigate the tolerance of Fusarium solani toward cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), and lead (Pb). Maximum tolerance was observed with Cd. Cadmium removal ability of F. solani was examined from contaminated PDB medium. pH, initial concentration and time optimization for maximum removal of Cd by F. solani was also studied. The maximum removal (92.4%) was recorded at initial concentration of 50?mg/L after 144?h of incubation. Cadmium exposure increased the level of glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) contents and the activity of catalase (CAT) in F. solani. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis indicated the involvement of the different surface functional group in biosorption of Cd while Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) analysis revealed the presence of Cd on the surface of fungal cell. The changes observed in compositions of S, P, and Cd using EDS analysis on biomass surface indicated the precipitation of Cd as CdS and Cd3(PO4)2. The XRD analysis revealed the presence of Cd3(PO4)2 on mycelia surface of F. solani. 相似文献

A stable microbial consortium that grew on nitrobenzene (NB) as its sole source of carbon, nitrogen and energy and liberated
excess nitrogen as ammonia, was immobilized on a perlite-packed trickling air biofilter. On a sustained basis, the biofilter
removed 50 g NB m−3 packing h−1 and its operation at pH 8.7 resulted in ammonia stripping, making pH and salinity controls unnecessary. Low maintenance
and stable performance during 4 months of continuous operation invite the scale-up of this biofilter for control of NB emissions.

Ammonia was deodorized using fibrous peat on laboratory-scale. The removal of NH3 by the peat was principally by physical and chemical adsorption of NH3 with functional groups of humic substances of the peat. The NH3 adsorption capacities of the various peats tested ranged from 10 to 20 g-N/kg·dry peat, and were decreased by neutralization with Ca(OH)2. The removal of NH3 by nitrification could be achieved by seeding the peat with nitrifying bacteria. The maximum removal rate of NH3 was about 70 percent of the nitrifying capacity which was, in this study, quantified by 48 h nitrifying capacity. 相似文献

Several methodologies were tested to supply nutrients to a downflow biofilter packed with perlite and used to treat toluene-polluted
air. Despite the presence of an inorganic carrier, elimination capacities of up to around 60 g/m3 per hour could be maintained when a basal medium, containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, was supplied once every
fortnight or even once a month rather than once a week. Experimental results also indicated that the addition of vitamins
or trace minerals to the basal aqueous medium hardly improved biofilter performance. Furthermore, the nutrient supply could
be combined with a biomass control strategy, using air sparging, without any adverse effect on biofilter performance compared
to supplying nutrients alone, and limiting the accumulation of excess biomass on the packing material. The performance of
the biofilter was not significantly affected by temperature fluctuations between 25 and 33 °C.

Biofilter system is a relatively new process that has been proven to be more cost-effective than traditional technologies such as carbon adsorption, liquid scrubbing, condensation, thermal incineration, and catalytic incineration for removing low-strength volatile organic compounds from waste gases. The trickle-bed air biofilter (TBAB) performance for ethylacetate (EA) removal was evaluated under different influent loadings. In the pseudo-steady states, the elimination capacity increased, but the removal efficiency decreased with increased influent loading. More than 95 and 90% removal efficiencies could be achieved for EA loadings below 490 and 810 g m(-3) h(-1), respectively. The TBAB appears to be very effective for controlling EA emission under low to high loading conditions, and the effectiveness could be maintained over 190 days of laboratory operation. 相似文献

Summary
Fusarium solani strains DSM 62416 and 62413 were found to hydrate trans-nerolidol or geranylacetone at the inner double bond. The stereochemical requirements for the substrate are rather narrow. Only E-configurated double bonds were accepted by the hydratases and no hydration was observed at the terminal isoprenyl unit of various substrates. The hydratases differ in their substrate specificity. While trans-nerolidol is accepted by the hydratase of strain DSM 62416 and geranylacetone is not, the contrary is found for the hydratase of strain DSM 62413. A fungus disease of Trifolium subterraneum, previously unknown in South Africa, was identified as Fusarium root rot caused by F. solani (Mart.) Sacc. Diseased plants were severely stunted. The characteristic internal root discolouration observed in the field, is described. The disease occurred mainly between Swellendam and Humansdorp in the southern and south-eastern Cape Province. The subterranean clover fields inspected were between 95 and 100 % infected with the root rot disease. T. repens and T. pratense were also susceptible. 相似文献

目的探讨真菌性角膜溃疡的病原学特点、临床表现及抗真菌综合治疗的方法。方法对2004年10月-2006年10月送检的疑似感染的角膜标本进行镜检、培养及菌种鉴定。对其中14例病历资料完整的茄病镰刀菌所致角膜溃疡患者进行临床分析。结果在33例送检标本中分离出茄病镰刀菌24株(72.7%)。上述14例患者中,有3例角膜穿孔合并眼内炎行眼球内容物除去术,3例行结膜瓣或羊膜移植,1例角膜移植,7例经非手术治疗保留较好视力。结论茄病镰刀菌是我国北方真菌性角膜炎的主要致病菌,可导致视力严重受损且治愈困难。早期诊断配合以抗真菌为主的综合治疗可阻止病情进展,明显改善视力。 相似文献

The development of dry rot caused by Fusarium solani f. sp. eumartii was evaluated in susceptible (Huinkul) and resistant (Spunta) potato cultivars. Fungal proteolytic and polygalacturanase activities were measured at different days postinoculation either with the pathogenic F. solani f. sp. eumartii, isolate 3122 or with the non‐pathogenic F. solani, isolate 1042. After inoculation with the pathogenic fungus, proteolytic and polygalaturonase activities were higher in the susceptible than in the resistant cultivar. In addition, we found a correlation between the levels of proteolytic activity detected in the intercellular washing fluids with the size of the lesion area caused by F. solani f. sp. eumartii in Huinkul tubers. The action of the proteolytic activity over cell wall proteins of both potato cultivars was assayed. An extracellular potato protein with homology to proteinase inhibitors of the Kunitz family was identified as a substrate of the proteolytic activity in the susceptible cultivar. A microscopic study revealed differences between the potato genotypes in the rate of response to infection by F. solani f. sp. eumartii. In addition, the cell wall alteration caused by F. solani f. sp. eumartii in cortical cells of susceptible tubers was evaluated. The data with respect to the correlation between the course of cyto‐ and biochemical events of the two host–pathogen interactions were discussed. 相似文献

When the cells of the newly isolated marine bacterium, Vibrio alginolyticus, were inoculated on to an inorganic packing material in biofilter, and a load of ammonia of 2.4–22.5 g-N kg–1dry packing material was introduced continuously under non-sterile conditions, the average amount of NH3removed exceeded 85% over 61-d operation. A fungus was isolated from the stem cuttings of Taxus celebica, which produced paclitaxel in liquid-grown cultures. The fungus was identified as Fusarium solani based on colony characteristics, morphology of conidia and the 26S rDNA sequence. Paclitaxel was identified by chromatographic and spectroscopic comparison with authentic paclitaxel and its cytotoxic activity towards Jurkat cells in vitro. 相似文献

A parallel trickling biofilter (TBF) system that consists of two TBFs units in parallel, one for biodegradation of trichloroethylene (TCE) and the other for reactivation of an inactivated biofilm, was developed and operated for continuous treatment of gas-phase TCE by Burkholderia cepacia G4. The trickle-bed air biofilter (TBAB) performance for treating acrylonitrile (AN) and styrene (SR) mixtures was evaluated under different influent carbon loadings. In the pseudo steady state conditions, the elimination capacities of AN and SR increased but the removal efficiencies decreased with increased influent carbon loading. The removal efficiencies of AN were higher than those of SR, indicating that AN is a preferred substrate in the ANSR waste gas. More than 80% removal efficiencies were achieved with influent carbon loadings of AN and SR below 28 and 22 g/m(3)/h, respectively. The TBAB appears to be efficient for controlling ANSR emission with low to medium carbon loadings, and the effectiveness could be maintained over 175 days of laboratory operation. The elimination capacities of AN and SR for a pure volatile organic compound (VOC) feed were higher than those for a mixed VOC feed and the differences increased with increased influent VOC loading. 相似文献

Tecnazene (up to 33 ppm) and dichloran (up to 500 ppm) had little effect on germination of spores or growth of Fusarium solani isolated from and causing a rot of potato tubers; they also did not decrease rotting when applied to wounds later inoculated with the pathogen. Benomyl and thiabendazole (up to 500 ppm) also had little effect on spore germination but did greatly decrease growth at 5 ppm. A pronounced pink coloration developed in cultures growing slowly in the presence of benomyl; a similar though less striking effect appeared in agar cultures containing thiabendazole. Benomyl suspended in water or diluted with Fuller's earth gave good control of rotting when applied to wounds inoculated later with F. solani. Still better control was obtained with thiabendazole; dusts containing 1% a.i. substantially decreased rots and those containing 10 % a.i. gave almost complete control when applied to wounds shortly before inoculation. Thiabendazole was also very effective when used 24 h after inoculation and a fair measure of control was obtained when it was applied 24 h later. Benomyl and thiabendazole placed on apparently intact surfaces of tubers caused tissue 5 mm deep to become toxic to F. solani 10 days later, and, unexpectedly, this tissue prevented spore germination. Fuller's earth alone substantially decreased rotting. The results obtained suggest that dusts containing thiabendazole have some promise for the control of Fusarium rots of potato tubers, especially of early crops. 相似文献
