Methanobactin (mb) is a novel chromopeptide that appears to function as the extracellular component of a copper acquisition system in methanotrophic bacteria. To examine this potential physiological role, and to distinguish it from iron binding siderophores, the spectral (UV–visible absorption, circular dichroism, fluorescence, and X-ray photoelectron) and thermodynamic properties of metal binding by mb were examined. In the absence of Cu(II) or Cu(I), mb will bind Ag(I), Au(III), Co(II), Cd(II), Fe(III), Hg(II), Mn(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), U(VI), or Zn(II), but not Ba(II), Ca(II), La(II), Mg(II), and Sr(II). The results suggest metals such as Ag(I), Au(III), Hg(II), Pb(II) and possibly U(VI) are bound by a mechanism similar to Cu, whereas the coordination of Co(II), Cd(II), Fe(III), Mn(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) by mb differs from Cu(II). Consistent with its role as a copper-binding compound or chalkophore, the binding constants of all the metals examined were less than those observed with Cu(II) and copper displaced other metals except Ag(I) and Au(III) bound to mb. However, the binding of different metals by mb suggests that methanotrophic activity also may play a role in either the solubilization or immobilization of many metals in situ.  相似文献

N-(2-Pyridyl)acetamide (aapH) complexes of palladium(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), and copper(II) have been studied by means of magnetic susceptibilities, and infrared, electronic, and PMR spectra. In the octahedral complexes M(aapH)2X2(M = Co, Ni, Cu; X = Cl, Br, NCS, NO3), bidentate aapH is chelated through the pyridine-N and amid-O atomes, whereas in the square-planar Pd(aapH)2X2 (X = Cl, Br) unidentate aapH is coordinated through the pyridine-N atom alone. Under alkaline conditions aapH is deprotonated in the presence of palladium(II) to form Pd(aap)2·4H2O, aap being an anionic bidentate ligand and chelating through the pyridine-N and amide-O atoms.  相似文献

Metal complexes of d-glucose (d-Glc) from large cation containing dibromo-dichloro salts of dipositive metals [NEt4]2[MBr2Cl2] (M = Mn, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) and the disodium salt of glucose were synthesized from a MeOH:MeCN mixture. The complexes were characterized by UV-vis absorption, circular dichroism, IR and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopies, and by elemental analysis, and were found to be Na[M(d-Glc)(OMe)Cl]. Cyclic voltammetric studies of these complexes, in the acidic to neutral pH range, indicated no dissociation, even in highly acidic conditions.This paper is dedicated to Professor Richard H. The 4-hydroxysalicylidenechitosan Schiff-base (2CS-Hdhba) was prepared by the condensation of 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde with chitosan, and its metal complexes, [M(2CS-dhba)Cl2(H2O)2] (M(III) = Fe, Ru, Rh), [M′(2CS-dhba)(AcO)(H2O)2] (M′(II) = Co, Ni, Cu, Zn), [Pd(2CS-dhba)Cl(H2O)] and [Au(2CS-dhba)Cl2], are reported. These complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, by spectral data (FTIR, solid-phase 13C NMR, UV–vis and ESR spectroscopy), by morphological observations (SEM and XRD), and by magnetic and thermal measurements. The Schiff base (2CS-Hdhba) behaves as a bidentate chelate with a single negative charge. The azomethine nitrogen and the deprotonated 2-hydroxy centres with the pendant glucosamine hydroxy functionality play no role in coordination. The dissociation constants of 2CS-Hdhba and the stability constants of some of its metal complexes have been determined pH-metrically.  相似文献

A new ligand N-salicyloyl-N'-o-hydroxythiobenzhydrazide (H2Sotbh) forms complexes [Mn(HSotbh)2], [Fe(Sotbh-H)(H2O)2], [M(Sotbh)] [M=Co(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)] and [Ni(Sotbh)(H(2)O)2], which were characterized by various physico-chemical techniques. M?ssbauer spectrum of [Fe(Sotbh-H)(H2O)2] reveals the quantum admixture of 5/2 and 3/2 spin-states. Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes were observed to inhibit the growth of tumor in vitro, whereas, Fe(III), Co(II), Zn(II) complexes did not. In vivo administration of Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) resulted in prolongation of survival of tumor bearing mice. Tumor bearing mice administered with Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes showed reversal of tumor growth associated induction of apoptosis in lymphocytes. The paper discusses the possible mechanisms and therapeutic implication of the H2Sotbh and its metal complexes in tumor regression and tumor growth associated immunosuppression.  相似文献

Bi-nuclear complexes of 28- atom membered macrocycles derived from 2,6-diacetyl pyridine and the amines 3,3′-diamino dipropylamine or 3,3′-diamino-N-methyl dipropylamine have been prepared by template synthesis on Ag+ or Pb2+. Template synthesis can also be accomplished, in the case of 3,3′-diamino dipropylamine, but not its N-methyl derivative, on Gp(II) metal ions, with accompanying rearrangement of the macrocycle. All the complexes produced by template synthesis can be transmetallated with the first transition series metal ions M = Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) to give binuclear and in some cases, mononuclear, derivatives. The binuclear complexes show no evidence of magnetic exchange interaction from magnetic susceptibility measurements in the range 93-300 K. The cyclovoltammetric behaviour of mono- and bi-nuclear Fe(II) complexes is compared.  相似文献

Vitamin K3-thiosemicarbazone (C12H11N3NaO4S2 x 5H2O, abbreviated as VT), a new Schiff base derivative, has been synthesized. Its crystal structure, determined by X-ray diffraction, is triclinic, space group P1. We have also prepared five novel complexes of VT with transition metals: [M(VT)(2)2H2O] x nH2O, (n = 1 and 2 for M = Cu(II) and Zn(II), respectively) and [M'(HVT)2Cl2] x mH2O, (m = 4, 5, and 7 for M' = Co(II), Mn(II), and Ni(II), respectively). These compounds were characterized by IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, molar conductivity, thermal analyses, complexometric titration, and elemental analysis. In all the complexes, the VT ligand coordinates through sulfur and oxygen atoms, and the geometry around metal atom is best described as octahedral. In vitro tests of antibacterial activity showed that VT and its complexes with Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) all had strong inhibitory actions against G(+) Staphylococcus aureus, G(+) Hay bacillus, and G(-) Escherichia coli.  相似文献

The acid-base and coordination properties towards Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) of four polyamino-phenol macrocycles 15-hydroxy-3,6,9-triazabicyclo[9.3.1]pentadeca-11,13,115-triene L1, 18-hydroxy-3,6,9,12-tetraazabicyclo[12.3.1]octadeca-14,16,118-triene L2, 21-hydroxy-3,6,9,12,15-pentaazabicyclo[15.3.1]enaicosa-17,19,121-triene L3 and 24-hydroxy-3,6,9,12,15,18-hexaazabicyclo[18.3.1]tetraicosa-20,22,124-triene L4 are reported. The protonation and stability constants were determined by means of potentiometric measurements in 0.15 mol dm−3 NMe4Cl aqueous solution at 298.1 K. L1 forms highly unsaturated Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) mononuclear complexes that are prone to give dimeric dinuclear species with [(MH−1L1)2]2+ stoichiometry, in solution. L2 forms stable Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) mononuclear complexes that can coordinate external species as OH anion, giving hydroxylated complexes at alkaline pH. L3 forms stable Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) mononuclear complexes and Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) dinuclear [M2H−1L3]3+ species. L4 forms stable mono- and dinuclear Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes, but only mononuclear species with Pb(II). The effect of macrocyclic size is considered in the discussion of results.  相似文献

Complexes of formula M(2,5-DHB)24H2O (M = Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Cu and Cd; 2,5-DHB = 2,5-dihydroxybenzoate) were prepared and characterized by means of infrared and electronic spectroscopy, and by electron spin resonance. For the Zn complex the crystal and molecular structure was also determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal is orthorhombic, space group Pbca (No. 61), with a = 18.503(4), b = 13.536(3), c = 6.900(2) Å, and Z = 4. The final refinement used 877 reflections and gave a residual R value of 0.041. The complex has slightly compressed octahedral coordination, with the zinc atom bound to two monodentate carboxylate groups lying in trans positions and four water molecules. X-ray data and infrared spectra show the Mn, Co, Ni, Zn and Cd complexes to be isostructural with the Zn compound. The electronic, infrared and ESR spectra of the copper(II) complex are consistent with a CuO4? based chromophore involving two water molecules and two monodentate carboxylate groups in the metal plane, and long axial contacts.  相似文献

Synthesis and physical-chemistry characterization of five new genuine complex compounds of 1-Benzylidine-2-phenazinoylhydrazine with Pd(II), Pt(II), Ni(II), Hg(II) and Cu(I) are presented. The chemical structure for these complexes is suggested by the elemental chemical analysis, molecular mass measurements, electric conductivities as well as by IR and UV-VIS spectra. The metal:ligand molar ratio is found 1:1, the obtained complexes belonging to the square planar geometry D4h.  相似文献

The influence of Mn2+, Fe3+, Co2+, and Zn2+ ions on the extent of trypsinogen activation has been determined for several ion concentrations at pH 7.4 and 36.4 degrees C. For the Mn2+ ion also the autocatalytic rate constants have been detected. The effect of Ca2+ has been reinvestigated for comparison purposes. The apparent dissociation constants of KMn2+ = 0.01 (M) and KCa2+ = 0.02 (M) have been found for the given metal ion-trypsinogen complexes. For Co2+ ion, however, only a slight effect and for Fe3+ and Zn2+ ions no significant effect could be detected on trypsinogen activation. The investigated ions are of empty, open, and completed d subshells of electrons and they are different also in their ionic size. The differences in effects of the ions are discussed on the basis of these factors.  相似文献

Metal ion binding properties of the immunosuppressant drug cyclosporin A have been investigated. Complexation studies in acetonitrile solution using 1H NMR and CD spectroscopy yielded 1:1 metal-peptide binding constants (log(10)K) for potassium(I), <1, magnesium(II), 4.8+/-0.2, and calcium(II), 5.0+/-1.0. The interaction of copper(II) with cyclosporin A in methanol was investigated with UV/visible and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. No complexation of copper(II) was observed in neutral solution. In the presence of base, monomeric copper(II) complexes were detected. These results support the possibility that cyclosporin A has ionophoric properties for biologically important essential metal ions.  相似文献

Complexes of the type [M(bssdh)]Cl and [M(dspdh)]Cl, where M = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II); Hbssdh = benzil salicylaldehyde succinic acid dihydrazone, Hdspdh = diacetyl salicylaldehyde phthalic acid dihydrazone have been synthesized and characterized with the help of elemental analyses, electrical conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, electronic, ESR and IR spectra and X-ray diffraction studies. Magnetic moment values and electronic spectral transitions indicate a spin free octahedral structure for Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes. IR spectral studies suggest that both the ligands behave as monobasic hexadentate ligands coordinating through three > C = O, two > C = N- and a phenolate group to the metal. ESR spectra of Cu(II) complexes are axial type and suggest d(x(2)-y(2)) as the ground state. X-ray powder diffraction parameters for [Co(bssdh)]Cl and [Co(dspdh)]Cl complexes correspond to an orthorhombic crystal lattice. The ligands as well as their metal complexes show a significant antifungal and antibacterial activity against various fungi and bacteria. Metal ion (Mg(II), Ca(II), Zn(II), Cu(II), Ni(II)) complexes of nystatin and amphotericin B (polyene antibiotics) have been prepared as solids. The stoichiometry of the complexes has been established. IR, ESR investigation indicates the metal-ligating sites in the polyene molecules. Biosorption is potentially an attractive technology for treatment of wastewater for retaining heavy metals from dilute solutions. This study investigated the feasibility of anaerobic granules as a novel type of biosorbent, for lead, copper, cadmium, and nickel removal from aqueous solutions. Anaerobic sludge supplied from a wastewater treatment plant in the province of Quebec was used. Anaerobic granules are microbial aggregates with a strong, compact and porous structure and excellent settling ability. After treatment of the biomass with Ca ions, the cation exchange capacity of the biomass was approximately 111 meq/100 g of biomass dry weight which is comparable to the metal binding capacities of commercial ion exchange resins. This work investigated the equilibrium, batch dynamics for the biosorption process. Binding capacity experiments using viable biomass revealed a higher value than those for nonviable biomass. Binding capacity experiments using non-viable biomass treated with Ca revealed a high value of metals uptake. The solution initial pH value affected metal sorption. Over the pH range of 4.0-5.5, pH-related effects were not significant. Meanwhile, at lower pH values the uptake capacity decreased. Time dependency experiments for the metal ions uptake showed that adsorption equilibrium was reached almost 30 min after metal addition. It was found that the q(max) for Pb2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, and Ni2+ ions, were 255, 60, 55, and 26 mg/g respectively (1.23, 0.53, 0.87, and 0.44 mmol/g respectively). The data pertaining to the sorption dependence upon metal ion concentration could be fitted to a Langmiur isotherm model. Based on the results, the anaerobic granules treated with Ca appear to be a promising biosorbent for removal of heavy metals from wastewater due to its optimal uptake of heavy metals, its particulate shape, compact porous structure, excellent settling ability, and its high mechanical strength.  相似文献

Tenuazonic acid (TA) is a phytotoxin produced by a fungal pathogen of rice, Pyricularia oryzae. We have synthesized and characterized the metal complexes of TA with copper (II), iron (III), nickel (II), and magnesium (II). The stoichiometry of the complexes determined by microanalysis and mass spectroscopy (D/CI) are Cu(II)TA2, Fe(III)TA3, Ni(II)TA2, and Mg(TA)2. Voltammograms of Fe(III)TA3, and Cu(II)TA2 in methanolic solutions confirmed this stoichiometry. Ni(II)TA2 paramagnetism and visible absorption data suggest an octahedral geometry. Fe(III)TA3 showed a characteristic visible absorption at 450 nm. Addition of Fe(III)Cl3 and Mg(II)Cl2 did not reverse the toxicity of NaTA to rice and bacterial cells, showing that this toxicity is not due to the privation of the cells of these metals essential for cell growth.  相似文献
