Meranoplus periyarensis,a remarkable new ant species (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) from India

Meranoplus periyarensis sp. nov. is the sixth species of its genus to be described from India. The others are: M. bicolor (Guerin-Meneville, 1844), M. bellii Forel, 1902; M. laeviventris Emery, 1889; M. levis Donisthorpe, 1942 and M. rothneyi Forel, 1902. A revised key to the Indian species is provided.     

Osteology of Halosauridae (Notacanthiformes)

With reference to three species (Halosaurus pectoralis (McCulloch, 1926), Halosauropsis macro-chir (Günther, 1878), and Aldrovandia phalacra (Vaillant, 1888)), specific features of skeleton structure in all three genera of Halosauridae fish are described. It is recommended to use the obtained results for the specification of classification of these fish.     

Note on the Arcturidae from the Weddetl Sea and description of Antarcturus hempeli sp.n. (Crustacea, Isopoda, Valvifera)

New localities of several arcturids are reported from the Atlantic sector of the Antarctic Ocean. Antarcturus hempeli sp.n. is described and drawings from type material of the following species are presented: Antarcturus furcatus (Studer, 1882), A. polaris (Hodgson, 1902), A. glacialis (Beddard, 1886). A granulosus Nordenstam, 1933, A. antarcticus Bouvier, 1910, A. lillei Tattersall, 1920, A. coppingeri (Miers, 1881), A. hodgsoni Richardson, 1913. Of the 37 species known from the studied area only 6 occur in the high Antarctic Weddell Sea. It is suspected that the semi-sessile way of life yielded the evolution of many local species and races.     

长江三峡库区鱼类资源现状的研究

1997－2000年在长江三峡库区的巴南和万州江段共监测1292船次,统计 渔获物4096．38kg,生物学测定2464尾,共采集鱼类30种,分属8科24属,目前库区渔获物组成和结构与20世纪70年代相比发生了较大变化,白甲鱼,中华倒刺靶,岩原鲤等在渔获物中比较已经很少,铜鱼资源也明显下降,Gua,Gan,鳊等在渔获物中已基本消失,而南方鲇,鲤,黄颡鱼等比较相对上升,渔获物中高龄鱼个体减少,低龄鱼及幼鱼个体比重增加,与70年代资料相比,三峡库区鱼区资源已呈衰退趋势。     

嘉陵江中游蓬安段鱼类群落功能多样性研究

研究调查了蓬安段2014—2019年洪水期 (6、7和8月)和枯水期 (11、12和1月)渔获物, 用11项鱼类功能性状类型结合蓬安段鱼类群落结构特点来分析该江段鱼类群落功能多样性在洪、枯期上的变化及与水环境的关系。研究结果表明, (1)2014—2019年洪水期的物种丰富度指数、辛普森多样性指数、Pielou均匀度指数和香浓威纳指数均高于枯水期; (2)SIMPER分析显示, 大鳍鳠Mystus macropterus、子陵吻鰕虎鱼Ctenogobius giurinus、似鳊Pseudobrama simoni、黄颡鱼Pelteobagrus fulvidraco、鳜Siniperca chuatsi、蛇 Saurogobio dabryi、飘鱼Pseudolaubuca sinensis、鲫Carassius auratus、黄尾鲴Xenocypris davidi和? Hemiculter leucisculus是造成洪水期与枯水期鱼类群落结构变化的主要差异贡献种; (3)各年份洪水期的功能丰富度FRic、功能离散度FDiv、功能散布度FDis和二次熵指数Rao及2015、2016和2017年的功能均匀度指数FEve均显著高于枯水期(P<0.05), 表明枯水期鱼群落的抵抗力稳定性和恢复力稳定性显著低于洪水期, 即枯水期水生生态系统功能较脆弱; (4)鱼类群落功能多样性与水环境因子存在显著相关关系, 但不同时期的功能多样性指数与环境因子相关性程度则呈现较大差异, 表明功能多样性是鱼类群落结构和各水环境因子综合作用的结果。     

Redescriptions of species of Tetrarhynchobothrium Diesing, 1850 and Didymorhynchus Beveridge & Campbell, 1988 (Cestoda: Trypanorhyncha), with the description of Zygorhynchus borneensis n. sp

Tetrarhynchobothrium tenuicolle Diesing, 1850 is redescribed from the type-specimens collected from Raja clavata Linnaeus in the Adriatic Sea. T. striatum (Wagener, 1854) is redescribed from voucher specimens from the type host, Myliobatis aquila Linnaeus, from the type-locality, off Naples, Italy. The two species are very similar in tentacular armature, but are provisionally maintained as independent species, since the armature of T. tenuicolle cannot be fully described and because all available specimens of T. striatum are immature, limiting comparisons of potential differences in segment anatomy. T. setiense Dollfus, 1969 is treated as a synonym of T. striatum. Zygorhynchus borneensis n. sp. is described from Himantura uarnacoides (Bleeker) and H. pastinacoides (Bleeker) off Sabah, Malaysia. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by the very small hooks present in the basal region and by the presence of a uterine pore. The metabasal tentacular armature of Didymorhynchus southwelli Beveridge & Campbell, 1988, described for the first time, is homeoacanthous and homeomorphous in form. However, it has a basal swelling with hook rows originating on the bothrial surface and terminating on the antibothrial surface of the tentacle.     

Monogeneans from Pangasiidae (Siluriformes) in Southeast Asia: X. six new species of Thaparocleidus Jain, 1952 (Ancylodiscoididae) from Pangasius micronema

The examination of gill parasites from Pangasius micronemao Bleeker, 1847 (Siluriformes, Pangasiidae) in Southeast Asia revealed the presence of nine species of Monogenea. Two (Thoparocleidus brevicochleus Pariselle, Lim & Lambert, 2001 and T. sinespinoe Pariselle, Lim & Lambert, 2001) have been previously described. Among the others, six species, belonging to Thaporocleidus Jain, 1952 (Monogenea, Ancylodiscoididae) as defined by Lim (1996) and Lim et al. (2001), are considered new species: T. tacitus n. sp., T. summagracilis n. sp., T. portentosus n. sp., T rukyonii n. sp., T. durandi n. sp., and T. lebrunce n. sp. The remaining species is represented by too few individuals to be conclusively described.     

Biogeography and phylogeny of Dermoergasilus Ho & Do, 1982 (Copepoda: Ergasilidae), with descriptions of three new species

Three new species of Dermoergasilus are described from six species of grey mullet hosts. Dermoergasilus longiabdominalis n. sp. was found on Valamugil engeli (Bleeker) from the Philippines and Madagascar and on V. cunnesius (Valenciennes) from the Philippines and Mangalore, India. D. semiamplectens n. sp. occurred on Sicamugil hamiltoni (Day) from the Sittang River, Burma, on Liza subviridis (Valenciennes) and L. parsia (Hamilton Buchanan) from Calcutta, India, and on V. cunnesius (Valenciennes) from China. D. curtus n. sp. parasitised Rhinomugil squamipinnis (Swainson) from Alahabad, India. A key to the ten currently accepted species of Dermoergasilus is given. The biogeographical distribution of Dermoergasilus species is analysed and levels of host-specificity are surveyed within the genus. The phylogenetic relationships between the species of Dermoergasilus are also analysed.     

Hysterothylacium pseudotumbili n.sp. (Nematoda: Anisakidae) from the marine fishes of Visakhapatnam, Bay of Bengal.

Hysterothylacium pseudotumbili n.sp. from the stomach and body cavity of marine fishes. Chrorinemus tol Couvier. Saurida undosquamis (Richardson), Lutianus russelli (Bleeker), Rastrilliger kanagurta (Cuvier) and Saurida pseudotumbili Dutt and Vidyasagar collected from Visakhapatnam (Bay of Bengal) is described and figured. A detailed examination has allowed us to erect a new species of Hysterothylacium to accommodate the worm. It shows remarkable differences from other known species of Hysterothylacium in respect of body measurements, the papillae on the lips arrangement, location of nerve ring and excretory pore, long intestinal caecum, position of vulva, number and arrangement of caudal papillae and size of the spicules. The new species is designated as Hysterothylacium pseudotumbili. Saurida pseudotumbili is the new host record. This is the first report of the genus in this host. Visakhapatnam coast is the new locality record.     

Metapolybia araujoi,a new species of swarming social wasp from the Brazilian Amazon rainforest (Vespidae: Polistinae)

A new species of Metapolybia, collected in Pará State, Brazil, by Adolph Ducke, in 1902, is described and comparative remarks are given.     

Three new species of Bychowskyella Achmerow, 1952 (Monogenea) from Peninsular Malaysia

Three new and one previously described species of Bychowskyella Achmerow, 1952 were collected from the gills of four species of freshwater catfish in Peninsular Malaysia. They are Bychowskyella teysmanni n. sp. from Clarias teysmanni (Bleeker, 1857) (Clariidae), Bychowskyella sisoris n. sp. from Glyptothorax major (Boulenger, 1894) (Sisoridae), Bychowskyella baueri n. sp. from Silurichthys hasselti (Bleeker, 1858) (Siluridae), and Bychowskyella tchangi Gussev, 1976 from Clarias macrocephalus Gunther, 1864 (Clariidae). B. teysmanni n. sp. differs from B. tchangi in having two pairs of large marginal hooks. B. sisoris n. sp. is unique in possessing two onchia, while B. baueri n. sp. differs from previously described Bychowskyella species in the structure of the dorsal onchium. C. macrocephalus is a new host record for B. tchangi in Peninsular Malaysia.     

Nomenclatural status of the fish names created by J. C. van Hasselt (1823) and of some cobitoid genera

The nomenclatural status of the 16 genera and 42 species of fishes described by van Hasselt is reviewed. One genus is preoccupied and 4 genera and 26 species are nomina nuda. The status of some cobitoid generic names is reviewed with greater details:Noemacheilus van Hasselt is a nomen nudum;Acantophthalmus van Hasselt is a junior synonym ofCobitis Linnaeus andAcanthophthalmus Bleeker is an incorrect spelling; the fishes usually calledAcanthophthalmus arePangio Blyth;Acanthopsis Bleeker is an incorrect spelling ofAcantopsis van Hasselt;Acanthopsis Agassiz is valid and its type species isA. angustus Agassiz.     

New and rare species of snailfishes (Scorpaeniformes: Liparidae) collected during the ICEFISH cruise of 2004

During the ICEFISH cruise of 2004 13 specimens of the fish family Liparidae (Scorpaeniformes) were collected from Burdwood Bank and near South Georgia. These specimens, with the addition of three more from the King Edward Point Laboratory of the British Antarctic Survey, represent nine species. Two of these are new and are described herein: Careproctus stigmatogenus new species and C. maculosus new species; the second specimen of C. minimus Andriashev and Stein is reported and described, specimens of C. georgianus Lönnberg, C. falklandicus (Lönnberg), C. ?pallidus (Vaillant), Paraliparis copei gibbericeps Andriashev, P. gracilis Norman, and P. tetrapteryx Andriashev and Neelov are reported, and live color of C. georgianus, C. falklandicus, and P. tetrapteryx is described and shown.     

Phylogeny and species boundaries in the gobiid genus Gnatholepis (Teleostei: Perciformes)

Species of the goby genus Gnatholepis Bleeker, 1874, are common inhabitants of shallow tropical seas worldwide. In this study, mitochondrial DNA sequence (ND2 gene), from 349 Gnatholepis individuals sampled from across the South and Central Pacific and Caribbean, is used to infer phylogeny and determine species boundaries. Seven species of Gnatholepis are recognized: the Indo-Pacific G. anjerensis (Bleeker, 1851) [ G. cauerensis (Bleeker, 1853) is a synonym]; G. scapulostigma Herre, 1953; G. davaoensis Seale, 1910; G. knighti Jordan & Evermann, 1903; G. gymnocara Randall & Greenfield, 2001; G.  sp. Randall & Greenfield, 2001; and the Atlantic/Caribbean G. thompsoni Jordan, 1904. Results from the molecular phylogeny are compared with a previous morphology-based revision of the genus in order to establish which morphological characters diagnose species in correspondence with the molecular phylogeny.  © 2004 The Linnean Society of London, Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society , 2004, 142 , 573–582.     

Redescriptions of Phallodrilus parthenopaeus Pierantoni and P. obscurus Cook (Oligochaeta, Tubificidae)

The type species of Phallodrilus Pierantoni, 1902, P. parthenopaeus Pierantoni, 1902; is redescribed on the basis of new material from W Scotland. The species is characterized by its specific spermathecal and penial setae, its very slender atria, and its long spermathecal ducts. Sexually fully mature specimens of P. obscurus Cook, 1969 are described for the first time, on the basis of material from New Jersey (E USA). The new material shows that this species possesses 5 to 9 penial setae in each ventral bundle of segment XI, and that its atria are coated with a relatively thick musculature.     

Synodontisia moraveci n. sp. (Oxyuroidea: Pharyngodonidae) from Osteochilus melanopleurus (Cyprinidae) of Malaysia, with a review of pinworms in fish and a key to species

Synodontisia moraveci n. sp. (Oxyuroidea: Pharyngodonidae), described from Osteochilus melanopleurus (Bleeker) (Cyprinidae) from Malaysia, is the 20th species of oxyuroid to be described from fish. It is distinguished from S. thelastomoides Petter, Vassiliades & Troncy, 1972 of Synodontis spp. in Africa by the absence of a spicule and the presence of two separate papillae on the caudal appendage rather than a fused pair as found in S. thelastomoides. The two species of Synodontisia are similar morphologically to some species of Thelastoma Leidy, 1850 of the intestine of Diplopoda, Blattoida and larval Scarabaeidae. The various species are listed with their hosts and geographical distributions, and a key to species is provided.     

淡水鱼类寄生粘孢子虫两新种的记述

在整理1982年从湖北省宜都市和1984年从湖北省黄岗市团风镇采集的长江鱼类粘孢子虫标本的过程中,作者发现寄生于鳜Siniperca chuats(Basilewsky)和蛇(Saurogobio dabrui Bleeker)的两种粘孢子虫,经鉴定是文献中没有报道的新物种1。模式标本保存在中国科学院水生生物研究所鱼病病原标本室。
