The main aim of the study was to compare the peak surface electromyography (sEMG) amplitude of muscles during low and high loaded bench press exercises performed to muscular failure on the dominant and non-dominant body side. Ten resistance-trained healthy males with at least six-year experience in resistance training (27.7 ± 5.6 years, 81.1 ± 5.8 kg and 175.3 ± 5.2 cm, bench press one-repetition maximum [1RM] = 98.9 ± 7.1 kg) performed the bench press at 50% and at 90%1RM. The differences in peak sEMG amplitude between body-sides and the external loads were recorded for the pectoralis major (PM), anterior deltoid (AD), and the long head of the triceps brachii (TB) during each attempt. A two-way repeated-measures ANOVAs revealed statistically significant main effect of side for AD (p < 0.001) and TB (p < 0.001) but not for PM (p = 0.168) and a significant main effect of load for TB (p < 0.001) but not for AD and PM (p = 0.229; p = 0.072; respectively). The post-hoc analysis for the main effect of side showed significantly higher peak sEMG amplitude for the dominant side compared to the non-dominant side for AD and TB at 50%1RM and 90%1RM (p < 0.001; all) with no statistically significant differences for PM (p = 0.187; p = 0.155; both loads). The post-hoc analysis for the main effect of load for TB revealed a significantly higher peak sEMG amplitude at 90%1RM compared to the 50%1RM (p = 0.009). The obtained results indicate that regardless of the external load, the peak sEMG activity of the AD, PM, and TB during the bench press exercise performed to muscular failure was higher on the dominant body-side.  相似文献

The sternocostal and clavicular regions of the pectoralis major are independently harvested to provide shoulder stability, but surgical decision making does not consider the biomechanical consequences that disinsertion of one fiber region over the other has on shoulder function. Differences in material properties between the fiber regions could influence which tissue is more optimal for surgical harvesting. The current study utilized ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE) to investigate whether the in vivo material properties differ between the fiber regions. Shear wave velocities (SWVs) were collected from the sternocostal and clavicular fiber regions of the pectoralis major from ten healthy young male participants. Participants produced isometric shoulder torques of varying magnitudes (passive, 15%, and 30% MVC) and directions (horizontal and vertical adduction). Four shoulder positions encompassing different vertical abduction and external rotation angles were examined. One-way ANOVAs tested the hypotheses that differences in SWVs during rest existed between the fiber regions as a function of shoulder position, and differences in SWVs during contraction existed as a function of shoulder position and torque direction. In all shoulder positions, the clavicular region exhibited greater SWVs during rest than the sternocostal region (P < 0.001). In shoulder positions that did not include external rotation, the clavicular region exhibited greater SWVs during contraction when producing horizontal adduction torques (P < 0.001), while the sternocostal region exhibited greater SWVs during contraction when producing vertical adduction torques at 30% MVC (P < 0.01). Our results suggest that each fiber region of the pectoralis major provides unique contributions to passive and active shoulder function.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesisthat low specific tension (force/cross-sectional area) in skeletalmuscle from aged animals results from structural changes in myosin thatoccur with aging. Permeabilized semimembranosus fibers from young adultand aged rats were spin labeled site specifically at myosin SH1(Cys-707). Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) was then used toresolve and quantify the structural states of the myosin head todetermine the fraction of myosin heads in the strong-binding (forcegenerating) structural state during maximal isometric contraction.Fibers from aged rats generated 27 ± 0.8% less specific tensionthan fibers from younger rats (P < 0.001). EPRspectral analyses showed that, during contraction, 31.6 ± 2.1%of myosin heads were in the strong-binding structural state in fibersfrom young adult animals but only 22.1 ± 1.3% of myosin heads infibers from aged animals were in that state (P = 0.004). Biochemical assays indicated that the age-related change inmyosin structure could be due to protein oxidation, as indicated by adecrease in the number of free cysteine residues. We conclude thatmyosin structural changes can provide a molecular explanation forage-related decline in skeletal muscle force generation.

We investigated whether adaptations of quadriceps muscle activity to fatiguing exercise differs between sexes. Fifteen healthy men (age, mean ± SD; 22. ± 2.4 yr, body mass 70.5 ± 11.4 kg, height 1.72 ± 0.06 m) and 15 healthy women (age, mean ± SD; 21 ± 1.8 yr, body mass 60 ± 7.5 kg, height 1.62 ± 0.07 m), all right leg dominant, participated in the study. Participants performed a submaximal isometric knee extension contraction at 50% of the maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) sustained until task failure before and after a fatiguing exercise. Surface electromyography (EMG) was simultaneously recorded from nine regions distributed over the medial, middle and lateral locations of the quadriceps muscles in a longitudinal direction corresponding to the vastus medialis, rectus femoris (RF) and vastus lateralis muscle, respectively. A significant reduction in maximal force and time to task failure were observed after fatiguing exercise for both sexes (P < 0.001). However, women displayed greater myoelectric manifestations of fatigue specifically for the RF during the post-fatigue sustained contraction (P < 0.05). The RF is more susceptible to fatiguing exercise in women compared to men which may partly explain the higher risk of knee injuries among female athletes during competitive sports.  相似文献

We hypothesized that resistance training with combined eccentric and concentric actions, and concentric action only, should yield similar changes in muscular strength. Subjects in a free weight group trained three times a week for 12 wk with eccentric and concentric actions (FW, n = 16), a second group trained with concentric-only contractions using hydraulic resistance (HY; n = 12), and a control group did not train (n = 11). Training for FW and HY included five sets of supine bench press and upright squat at an intensity of 1-6 repetition maximum (RM) plus five supplementary exercises at 5-10 RM for a total of 20 sets per session for approximately 50 min. Testing at pre-, mid-, and posttraining included 1) 1 RM bench press and squat with and 2) without prestretch using free weights; 3)isokinetic peak force and power for bench press and squat at 5 degrees/s, and isotonic peak velocity and power for bench press with 20-kg load and squat with 70-kg load; 4) hydraulic peak bench press force and power, and peak knee extension torque and power at fast and slow speeds; and 5) surface anthropometry (fatfolds and girths to estimate upper arm and thigh volume and muscle area). Changes in overall fatness, muscularity, and muscle + bone cross-sectional area of the limbs did not differ between groups (P greater than 0.05). This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of using different dietary forage-to-concentrate ratios on growth performance and carcass characteristics of eighty Chall male fat-tailed lambs, averaging 165 ± 15 (SD) days of age and body weight of 38.4 ± 4.8 (SD) kg, randomly assigned to four diets containing alfalfa hay-to-concentrate ratios (DM basis) of 70:30 (C30), 50:50 (C50), 30:70 (C70), 10:90 (C90). Metabolizable energy (ME) contents were, 9.12. 9.96, 10.67, and 11.34 MJ/kg dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) contents were 143, 152, 161, and 174 g/kg for the C30, C50, C70, and C90 diets, respectively. Sixteen lambs (4 lambs/treatment) were slaughtered at the end of feeding period (84 days). Dry matter intake and feed conversion ratio (FCR) (i.e., kg DM/kg gain) decreased linearly (P<0.001) as concentrate level increased in the diet. However, a linear increase (P<0.001) for ME intake and a quadratic increase for average daily gain (ADG, P<0.001) and final body weight (P<0.01) were observed with increasing dietary concentrate. Slaughter weight, eye muscle area, and weights of lean, bone, neck, shoulder, rack–loin, leg, skin, head, lung, and spleen were not affected by the experimental diets. However, as dietary concentrate increased, a linear increase for dressing percentage, feet weight (P<0.001), and backfat thickness (P<0.02), a quadratic increase for empty body weight (EBW, P<0.02), weights of hot and cold carcass (P<0.001), subcutaneous fat (P<0.02), total fat (P<0.01), brisket–flank (P<0.04), and tail fat (P<0.001), a linear decrease for weights of liver (P<0.01), and heart (P<0.05), and a quadratic decrease for lean-to-fat ratio (P<0.02) were observed. This study indicates that in Chall fat-tailed lambs the increase of dietary concentrate (up to 700 g/kg) improves growth rate, FCR and dressing percentage with negative effect on carcass lean-to-fat ratio.  相似文献

BackgroundForward head posture is a head-on-trunk malalignment, which results in musculoskeletal dysfunction and neck pain. To improve forward head posture, both the craniocervical flexion exercise and the suboccipital release technique have been used. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the immediate effects of craniocervical flexion exercise and suboccipital release combined with craniocervical flexion exercise on craniovertebral angle, cervical flexion and extension range of motion, and the muscle activities of the sternocleidomastoid, anterior scalene, and splenius capitis during craniocervical flexion exercise in subjects with forward head posture.MethodsIn total, 19 subjects (7 males, 12 females) with forward head posture were recruited using G-power software. Each subject performed craniocervical flexion exercise and suboccipital release combined with craniocervical flexion exercise in random order. After one intervention was performed, the subject took a 20 min wash out period to minimize any carry-over effect between interventions. Craniovertebral angle, cervical flexion and extension range of motion, and the muscle activities of the sternocleidomastoid, anterior scalene, and splenius capitis were measured. A one-way, repeated-measures ANOVA was used to assess differences between the effects of the craniocervical flexion exercise and suboccipital release combined with craniocervical flexion exercise interventions in the same group.ResultsCraniovertebral angle (p < 0.05), cervical flexion range of motion (p < 0.05), and cervical extension range of motion (p < 0.001) were significantly greater after suboccipital release combined with craniocervical flexion exercise compared to craniocervical flexion exercise alone. The muscle activities of the sternocleidomastoid, anterior scalene, and splenius capitis were significantly lower during suboccipital release combined with craniocervical flexion exercise than during craniocervical flexion exercise alone across all craniocervical flexion exercise phases except the first (all p < 0.05).ConclusionThe addition of suboccipital release to craniocervical flexion exercise provided superior benefits relative to craniocervical flexion exercise alone as an intervention for subjects with forward head posture.  相似文献

The myoelectric signal of the sternoclavicular and clavicular portions of the pectoralis major, the biceps brachii, and the lateral head of triceps brachii of 12 healthy men was collected during an isometric hold of 5 different bench press exercises. Grip width (narrow, mid, and wide) and the level of supination/pronation was varied to determine how these factors influence myoelectric amplitude during the flat bench press. A supinated grip resulted in increased activity for the biceps brachii and the clavicular portion of the pectoralis major. Additionally, moving from wide to narrower grip widths increased triceps activity and decreased the sternoclavicular portion of the pectoralis major. However, if the grip was supinated, moving to a narrower grip position did not result in a decrease in muscle activity of the sternoclavicular portion of the pectoralis major. The increase in triceps brachii activity when moving to a narrower grip width was not influenced by the level of supination. Considering the small changes that occur during changes in grip width, the choice of grip position should be determined by the positions athletes adopt during their sport. Sport specificity should supercede attempts to train specific muscle groups.  相似文献

This study aimed to compare the effects of different velocities of eccentric muscle actions on acute blood lactate and serum growth hormone (GH) concentrations following free weight bench press exercises performed by resistance-trained men. Sixteen healthy men were divided into two groups: slow eccentric velocity (SEV; n = 8) and fast eccentric velocity (FEV; n = 8). Both groups performed four sets of eight eccentric repetitions at an intensity of 70% of their one repetition maximum eccentric (1RMecc) test, with 2-minute rest intervals between sets. The eccentric velocity was controlled to 3 seconds per range of motion for SEV and 0.5 seconds for the FEV group. There was a significant difference (P < 0.001) in the kinetics of blood lactate removal (at 3, 6, 9, 15, and 20 min) and higher mean values for peak blood lactate (P = 0.001) for the SEV group (9.1 ± 0.5 mM) compared to the FEV group (6.1 ± 0.4 mM). Additionally, serum GH concentrations were significantly higher (P < 0.001) at 15 minutes after bench press exercise in the SEV group (1.7 ± 0.6 ng · mL−1) relative to the FEV group (0.1 ± 0.0 ng · mL−1). In conclusion, the velocity of eccentric muscle action influences acute responses following bench press exercises performed by resistance-trained men using a slow velocity resulting in a greater metabolic stress and hormone response.  相似文献

The effects of timed ingestion of high-quality protein before and after resistance exercise are not well known. In this study, young men were randomized to protein (n = 11), placebo (n = 10) and control (n = 10) groups. Muscle cross-sectional area by MRI and muscle forces were analyzed before and after 21 weeks of either heavy resistance training (RT) or control period. Muscle biopsies were taken before, and 1 and 48 h after 5 × 10 repetition leg press exercise (RE) as well as 21 weeks after RT. Protein (15 g of whey both before and after exercise) or non-energetic placebo were provided to subjects in the context of both single RE bout (acute responses) as well as each RE workout twice a week throughout the 21-week-RT. Protein intake increased (P ≤ 0.05) RT-induced muscle cross-sectional area enlargement and cell-cycle kinase cdk2 mRNA expression in the vastus lateralis muscle suggesting higher proliferating cell activation response with protein supplementation. Moreover, protein intake seemed to prevent 1 h post-RE decrease in myostatin and myogenin mRNA expression but did not affect activin receptor IIb, p21, FLRG, MAFbx or MyoD expression. In conclusion, protein intake close to resistance exercise workout may alter mRNA expression in a manner advantageous for muscle hypertrophy.  相似文献

Although there is ample evidence for the effects of sperm head shape on sperm function, its impact on fertility has not been explored in detail at the intraspecific level in mammals. Here, we assess the relationship between sperm head shape and male fertility in a large-scale study in Manchega sheep (Ovis aries), which have not undergone any selection for fertility. Semen was collected from 83 mature rams, and before insemination, head shapes were measured for five parameters: area, perimeter, length, width, and p2a (perimeter2/2×π×area) using a computer-assisted sperm morphometric analysis. In addition, a cluster analysis using sperm head length and p2a factor was performed to determine sperm subpopulations (SPs) structure. Our results show the existence of four sperm SPs, which present different sperm head phenotype: SP1 (large and round), SP2 (short and elongated), SP3 (shortest and round), and SP4 (large and the most elongated). No relationships were found between males' fertility rates and average values of sperm head dimensions. However, differences in fertility rates between rams were strongly associated to the proportion of spermatozoa in an ejaculate SP with short and elongated heads (P < 0.001). These findings show how the heterogeneity in sperm head shape of the ejaculate has an effect on reproductive success, and highlight the important role of modulation of the ejaculate at the intraspecific level.  相似文献

Exercise or Swiss balls are increasingly being used with conventional resistance exercises. There is little evidence supporting the efficacy of this approach compared to traditional resistance training on a stable surface. Previous studies have shown that force output may be reduced with no change in muscle electromyography (EMG) activity while others have shown increased muscle EMG activity when performing resistance exercises on an unstable surface. This study compared 1RM strength, and upper body and trunk muscle EMG activity during the barbell chest press exercise on a stable (flat bench) and unstable surface (exercise ball). After familiarization, 13 subjects underwent testing for 1RM strength for the barbell chest press on both a stable bench and an exercise ball, each separated by at least 7 days. Surface EMG was recorded for 5 upper body muscles and one trunk muscle from which average root mean square of the muscle activity was calculated for the whole 1RM lift and the concentric and eccentric phases. Elbow angle during each lift was recorded to examine any range-of-motion differences between the two surfaces. The results show that there was no difference in 1RM strength or muscle EMG activity for the stable and unstable surfaces. In addition, there was no difference in elbow range-of-motion between the two surfaces. Taken together, these results indicate that there is no reduction in 1RM strength or any differences in muscle EMG activity for the barbell chest press exercise on an unstable exercise ball when compared to a stable flat surface. Moreover, these results do not support the notion that resistance exercises performed on an exercise ball are more efficacious than traditional stable exercises.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effect of Holstein donor category (cows vs. heifers) and climate variation (hot vs. cooler season) on the efficiency of in vivo embryo production programs as well as embryo survival after transferred to Holstein recipient cows. A total of 1562 multiple ovulation (MO) procedures (cows: n = 609, and heifers: n = 953) and 4076 embryo transfers (ETs) performed in two dairy herds were evaluated. Donor cows had greater number of CLs (10.6 ± 0.6 vs. 7.5 ± 0.4; P < 0.0001) and ova/embryos recovered (7.6 ± 0.6 vs. 4.6 ± 0.4; P < 0.0001) compared with donor heifers. However, fertilization rate (47.9 vs. 82.4%; P < 0.0001) and proportion of transferable embryos (31.5 vs. 67.4%; P < 0.0001) were lower in donor cows than heifers, respectively. Regardless of donor category, the proportion of freezable embryos was less (P < 0.001) during hot season than in cooler season (21.4 vs. 32.8%). However, greater decline in the proportion of freezable embryos during the hot season was observed in cows (21.7 vs. 10.7%) compared with heifers (46.2 vs. 38.1%; P = 0.01). In contrast, the season on which the embryo was produced (hot or cool) did not affect pregnancy rate on Day 31 (30.5 vs. 31.7%; P = 0.45) and 45 (25.3 vs. 25.1%; P = 0.64) of pregnancy. Regardless of the season in which the embryos were produced, embryonic survival after transferring embryos retrieved from donor cows was greater on Days 31 (36.0 vs. 30.7%; P = 0.001) and 45 (28.3 vs. 23.1%; P = 0.001) of pregnancy when compared with embryos from donor heifers. In conclusion, MO embryo production efficiency decreased during the hot seasons both in cows and heifers; however, the decline was more pronounced in donor cows. Regardless of the embryo source, similar pregnancy rate was observed in the recipient that received embryos produced during the hot and cooler seasons. Curiously, embryos originating from donor cows had higher embryonic survival when transferred to recipient cows than embryos originating from heifers.  相似文献

The experiment was conducted at Maichew Agricultural Technical Vocational Education and Training College, Ethiopia. Twenty four male yearling Tigray Highland sheep with mean body weight (BW) of 21 ± 2.6 kg (mean ± S.D.) were used to investigate the effect of different protein sources on feed intake, nutrient digestibility, BW change and carcass parameters in a study comprising of 90 days feeding trial, followed by 7 days of digestibility trial and evaluation of carcass parameters. Six individually fed animals were used per treatment in a randomized complete block design. The treatments consisted of ad libitum feeding of tef (Eragrostis tef) straw plus 172 g dry matter (DM) of cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) pear (T1, control) and supplementation with 145 g DM cotton seed cake (CSC) (T2), 195 g DM noug seed cake (NSC) (T3) or 149 g DM peanut cake (PNC) (T4) per head per day. The quantity of the supplements was set to supply 62.5 g crude protein (CP). Tef straw DM intake was depressed (P<0.01) as the result of NSC supplementation. Sheep supplemented with CSC and PNC had higher (P<0.001) total DM intake than the control and NSC supplemented ones. Supplementation with NSC and PNC also resulted in higher (P<0.01) apparent digestibility of DM and OM compared to the control treatment. Supplementation with CSC and PNC resulted in better daily BW gain (P<0.001), feed conversion efficiency (FCE) and dressed carcass weight (P<0.01) compared to the non-supplemented diet. Dressing percentage on slaughter weight base was higher (P<0.01) in supplemented sheep than in the non-supplemented ones. Supplementation with PNC also promoted higher (P<0.05) rib-eye muscle area than in the non-supplemented ones. It was concluded that supplementation with 145 g DM CSC and 149 g DM PNC resulted in better feed intake, BW gain and carcass traits in cactus–tef straw based feeding of sheep.  相似文献

ObjectiveInflammation has been considered as an important factor in cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Curcumin has been well known for its anti-inflammatory effects. In current research, protective effect of curcumin on cardiovascular oxidative stress indicators in systemic inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was investigated in rats.Material and methodsThe animals were divided into five groups and received the treatments during two weeks [1]: Control in which vehicle was administered instead of curcumin and saline was injected instead of LPS [2], LPS group in which vehicle of curcumin plus LPS (1 mg/kg) was administered [3-5], curcumin groups in them three doses of curcumin (5, 10 and 15 mg/kg) before LPS were administered.ResultsAdministration of LPS was followed by an inflammation status presented by an increased level of white blood cells (WBC) (p < 0.001). An oxidative stress status was also occurred after LPS injection which was presented by an increased level of malondialdehyde (MDA) while, a decrease in thiols, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase(CAT) in all heart, aorta and serum (p < 0.001). The results also showed that curcumin decreased WBC (doses: 10 and 15 mg/kg) (p < 0.001) accompanying with a decrease in MDA (P < 0.01 and P < 0.001). Curcumin also improved the thiols and the activities of SOD and catalase (P < 0.05, P < 0.01 and P < 0.001).ConclusionBased on our findings, curcumin can ameliorates oxidative stress and inflammation induced by LPS in rats to protect the cardiovascular system.  相似文献

Eccentric muscle actions are known to induce temporary muscle damage, delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and muscle weakness that may persist for several days. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether DOMS-inducing exercise affects blood lactate responses to subsequent incremental dynamic exercise. Physiological and metabolic responses to a standardised incremental exercise task were measured two days after the performance of an eccentric exercise bout or in a control (no prior exercise) condition. Ten healthy recreationally active subjects (9 male, 1 female), aged 20 (SD 1) years performed repeated eccentric muscle actions during 40 min of bench stepping (knee high step; 15 steps · min−1). Two days after the eccentric exercise, while the subjects experienced DOMS, they cycled on a basket loaded cycle ergometer at a starting work rate of 150 W, with increments of 50 W every 2 min until fatigue. The order of the preceding treatments (eccentric exercise or control) was randomised and the treatments were carried out 2 weeks apart. Two days after the eccentric exercise, all subjects reported leg muscle soreness and exhibited elevated levels of plasma creatine kinase activity (P < 0.05). Endurance time and peak O2 during cycling were unaffected by the prior eccentric exercise. Minute volume, respiratory exchange ratio and heart rate responses were similar but venous blood lactate concentration was higher (P < 0.05) during cycling after eccentric exercise compared with the control condition. Peak blood lactate concentration, observed at 2 min post-exercise was also higher [12.6 (SD 1.4) vs 10.9 SD (1.3) mM; P < 0.01]. The higher blood lactate concentration during cycling exercise after prior eccentric exercise may be attributable to an increased rate of glycogenolysis possibly arising from an increased recruitment of Type II muscle fibres. It follows that determination of lactate thresholds for the purpose of fitness assessment in subjects experiencing DOMS is not appropriate. Accepted: 27 September 1997  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to identify different objective categories of sperm head size evaluation, using both morphometric and statistical analyses. For this purpose, semen samples (n = 16) were collected from 4 Florida male goats and assessed using a computer-assisted sperm morphometric analysis (ASMA) to obtain sperm head size measurements. The sperm heads were grouped into categories according to 25th and 75th percentiles (the lower and upper quartile, respectively) of their area values. Thereafter, a discriminant analysis was implemented on all the sperm morphometric parameters assessed, to obtain a classification matrix for sperm head size. Sperm heads by this method were classified into 3 categories depending on their size (small, medium and large), with a globally correct assignment of 95.5%. Moreover, significant differences (p < 0.001) were recorded between individual animals for all the sperm head morphometric parameters assessed. In conclusion, by using both statistical and morphometric analyses, it was possible to recognize the three categories of sperm head size. It is expected that research could be useful in defining the relationship between sperm head size measurements and actual fertility data.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of moderate treadmill exercise session on body surface and core temperature in dog measured by means of two infrared instruments. Ten Jack Russell Terrier/Miniature Pinscher mixed-breed dogs were subjected to 15 min of walking, 10 min of trotting and 10 min of gallop. At every step, body surface temperature (Tsurface) was measured on seven regions (neck, shoulder, ribs, flank, back, internal thigh and eye) using two different methods, a digital infrared camera (ThermaCam P25) and a non-contact infrared thermometer (Infrared Thermometer THM010-VT001). Rectal temperature (Trectal) and blood samples were collected before (T0) and after exercise (T3). Blood samples were tested for red blood cell (RBC), hemoglobin concentration (Hb) and hematocrit (Hct). A significant effect of exercise in all body surface regions was found, as measured by both infrared methods. The temperature obtained in the eye and the thigh area were higher with respect to the other studied regions throughout the experimental period (P<0.0001). RBC, Hb, Hct and Trectal values were higher at T3 (P<0.05). Statistically significant higher temperature values measured by infrared thermometer was found in neck, shoulder, ribs, flank, back regions respect to the values obtained by digital infrared camera (P<0.0001). The results obtained in this study showed that both internal and surface temperatures are influenced by physical exercise probably due to muscle activity and changes in blood flow in dogs. Both infrared instruments used in this study have proven to be useful in detecting surface temperature variations of specific body regions, however factors including type and color of animal hair coat must be taken into account in the interpretation of data obtained by thermography methodology.  相似文献

Field and climatic chamber studies revealed that walking at 4.5 km/h elicited greater thermoregulatory responses in Hereford cattle than did the possession of a wooly hair coat.Under mild field conditions, walking caused sweating rate to increase to 150–200 g/m2/h within one hour (P<0.001); no significant differences were recorded between wooly-coated and clipped cattle.Walking at 4.5 km/h on a treadmill in a climate chamber at 38°C and 34 mm Hg water vapour pressure elevated rectal (P<0.001) and skin (P<0.05) temperatures to levels considerably above those in stationary controls. There were no differential effects on sweating or respiratory rates, though the latter were generally higher in the exercising group.Differences in skin temperature, sweating and respiratory rates between coat-types and exercise groups in the climate chamber were similar, but exercise resulted in a much greater rectal temperature response.Overall, exercise represented a more potent thermoregulatory stimulus than a wooly hair coat.  相似文献

Studies were conducted to determine the rumen degradable nitrogen (RDN) requirement levels for optimum microbial protein synthesis and nutrient utilization in Nellore rams fed on finger millet straw (FMS) based diet. Thirty six Nellore sheep were randomly divided into four groups of nine animals each using the balanced completely randomized design. Animals in all the groups were fed finger millet straw as a basal roughage and groundnut cake (GNC) was offered daily in two equal halves in the morning (8.00 AM) and evening (4.00 PM) as RDN source. The animals in group I (GI) were fed with ad libitum FMS. Animals in group II, III and IV (GII, GIII, and IV) were offered GNC @ 12.4, 16.6, and 21.1 g RDN/kg digestible organic matter (DOM) along with FMS. The daily total dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) intakes linearly increased (P<0.05) with increasing level of RDN supplementation while there was no difference in total DM and OM intake/kg W0.75 among different experimental groups. The digestibility coefficients of DM (P<0.001), OM (P<0.001), crude protein (CP) (P<0.001), ether extract (EE) (P<0.001), neutral detergent fibre (NDF) (P<0.01) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) (P<0.03) increased quadratically with increasing level of RDN supplementation from GI to GIV. The purine derivatives (PD) excretion, microbial purine absorption and microbial nitrogen supply (MNS g/day) linearly increased (P<0.001) as the level of RDN supplementation increased. There was no difference in nitrogen capture efficiency (NCE) and microbial nitrogen to total urinary nitrogen ratio (MN:UN) among the RDN supplemented groups. This study indicated that 12 g RDN/kg digestible organic matter intake (RDN g/kg DOMI) or 18 g RDN/kg OM apparently digested in the rumen (RDN g/kg DOMR) may be adequate for optimum microbial protein synthesis and digestibility of nutrients, there by improved plane of nutrition in sheep fed on finger millet straw based diet.  相似文献
