The adsorption performance of CS beads impregnated with triton X-100 (TX-100) as a nonionic surfactant and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as an anionic surfactant was investigated for the removal of anionic dye (congo red) from aqueous solution. While the adsorption capacity of CS/TX-100 beads was enhanced at all concentrations of TX-100 (0.005–0.1%), the increase in the concentration of SDS above 0.01% in the CS/SDS beads gradually reduced the adsorption capacity of the beads. Equilibrium adsorption isotherm data indicated a good fit to the Sips isotherm model and a heterogeneous adsorption process. The Sips maximum adsorption capacity in dry weight of the CS/TX-100 beads was 378.79 mg/g and 318.47 mg/g for the CS/SDS beads, higher than the 223.25 mg/g of the CS beads. Modification of CS beads by impregnation with nonionic surfactant, or even anionic surfactant, at low concentrations is a possible way to enhance adsorption of anionic dye.  相似文献

The adsorption of congo red (CR) onto chitosan (CS) beads impregnated by a cationic surfactant (CTAB, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide) was investigated. Chitosan beads impregnated at a ratio of 1/20 of CTAB to CS (0.05% of CTAB and 1% of CS) increased the CR adsorption capacity by 2.2 times from 162.3 mg/g (0% CTAB) to 352.5 mg/g (0.05% CTAB). The CR adsorption decreased with an increase in pH of the CR solution from 4.0 to 9.0. The Sips isotherm model showed a good fit with the equilibrium experimental data and the values of the heterogeneity factor (n) indicated heterogeneous adsorption of CR onto CS/CTAB beads, as well as CS beads. The kinetic data showed better fit to the pseudo second-order rate model than to the pseudo first-order rate model. The impregnation of CS beads by cationic surfactants showed the highest adsorption capacities of CR compared to any other adsorbents and would be a good method to increase adsorption efficiency for the removal of anionic dyes in a wastewater treatment process.  相似文献

The current study reports a facile method to fabricate functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes and montmorillonite clay mineral-based nanocomposite matrix and its detailed characterization using spectroscopic and morphological techniques. The nanocomposites have been studied for their potential applications in the treatment of contaminated water using batch adsorption studies. The investigations conducted using optical absorption spectroscopic measurements for the adsorption process indicate that the nanocomposite matrix can effectively remove almost 98% of the dye from aqueous solution. The nanocomposites have showed fast and strong adsorption behaviour for the dye with the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) of ~467.3 mg g−1 in 25 min. The experimental data at equilibrium were also correlated with the theoretical adsorption isotherm and kinetic models. The results demonstrate that the experimental data fits well to the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model and conforms to second-order kinetics. Furthermore, the nanocomposite exhibits good recyclability without any marked decrease in the adsorption performance even after five adsorption cycles of usage which indicates its potential application as reusable adsorbent for the efficient removal of hazardous dyes from contaminated water.  相似文献

Covalent coupling of chitosan (CS) to activated nylon membrane was performed after the reaction of the microporous nylon membrane with formaldehyde. Non-specific adsorption on the CS-coated nylon membrane decreased greatly, compared with plain nylon membrane. The dye Cibacron Blue F3GA (CB F3GA) as a ligand was then covalently immobilized on the CS-coated membranes. Physical properties of the composite membrane and its applications in affinity membrane chromatography were examined. The contents of CS and CB F3GA-attached membranes were 89.6 mg/g nylon membrane and 146.1 micromol/g nylon membrane, respectively. These CB F3GA-attached composite membranes were used in the papain adsorption studies. Higher papain adsorption capacity, up to 235.3mg/g affinity membrane, was obtained. The adsorption isotherm fitted the Freundlich model well. Significant amount of the adsorbed papain (about 94.3%) was eluted by 1.0M NaSCN at pH 9.0. Experiments on regeneration and dynamic adsorption were also performed. It appears that CB F3GA-CS nylon membranes can be applied for papain separation without causing any denaturation.  相似文献

Moringa oliferia seed pod was modified using orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) and used as adsorbent for sequestering Rhodamine B (Rh-B) dye from aqueous solution. The acid-modified adsorbent (MOSPAC) was characterized using Scanning Electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), pH point of zero charge (pHpzc) and Boehm Titration (BT) techniques, respectively. Operational parameters such as contact time, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, pH and solution temperature were studied in batch process. Optimum dye adsorption was observed at pH 3.01. Equilibrium adsorption data was tested data using four different isotherm models: Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich. Langmuir isotherm model fitted most with maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 1250 mg g–1. Pseudo-second-order kinetic model provided the best correlation for the experimental data. Thermodynamic study showed that the process is endothermic, spontaneous and feasible. MOSPAC is an effective adsorbent for the removal of RhB dye from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

A composite membrane from 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate)/chitosan (pHEMA/chitosan) was synthesized via UV initiated photo-polymerization in the presence of an initiator α,α′-azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN). Procion Brown MX 5BR was then covalently immobilized onto composite membrane as a dye–ligand. The binding characteristics of a model protein (i.e. lysozyme) to the dye–ligand immobilized affinity membrane have been investigated from aqueous solution using the plain composite membrane as a control system. The experimental data was analyzed using two adsorption kinetic models, the pseudo-first-order and the pseudo-second-order, to determine the best-fit equation for the adsorption of lysozyme onto affinity composite membrane. The second-order equation for the adsorption of lysozyme on the dye–ligand membrane systems is the most appropriate equation to predict the adsorption capacity for the affinity membrane. The reversible lysozyme adsorption on the affinity membrane obeyed the Freundlich isotherm. The lysozyme adsorption capacity of the plain membrane and the dye–ligand affinity membrane were 8.3 and 121.5 mg ml−1, respectively.  相似文献

Silica gel/chitosan composite (SiCS) was prepared via., sol-gel method by mixing silica gel and chitosan and cross-linked with bifunctional cross-linker glutaraldhyde. The SiCS composite was characterized using FT-IR, SEM-EDAX, XRD and BET methods. The sorption of copper and lead ions onto SiCS has been investigated. The SiCS composite was found to have excellent metal sorption capacity than the silica gel (Si) and chitosan (CS). The sorption experiments were carried out in batch mode to optimize various parameters viz., contact time, pH, initial metal ion concentration, co-ions and temperature that influence the sorption. Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich adsorption isotherm models were applied to describe isotherm constants. Equilibrium data agreed well with the Freundlich isotherm model. Thermodynamic studies revealed that the nature of sorption is spontaneous and endothermic. The SiCS removes metals by means of adsorption and complexation. Sorption capacity of SiCS is compared with other sorbents which suggest that this composite was useful for removing copper and lead from aqueous solution.  相似文献

A novel nanoscale zero-valent iron-Sargassum swartzii (nZVI-SS) biocomposite was synthesized and evaluated for its ability to adsorb crystal violet (CV) from aqueous solutions. Involvement of various functional groups of the biosorbent in preferential adsorption of cationic dye was observed using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Morphological changes occurring on the biocomposite materials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Significant increase (~90%) in the biosorption of cationic dye was observed with gradual increase in pH of the medium from 3 to 12. The effect of biosorbent concentration, initial pH, temperature, agitation rate, adsorption time, and initial dye concentration was studied for the biosorption of CV using nZVI biocomposite. During the optimization study, maximum biosorption capacity was observed at pH of 8. At various initial CV concentrations (20–100 mg/L), attainment of batch sorption equilibrium was observed within 120 min of reaction time. The Langmuir isotherm model expressed high coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.999). The maximum dye uptake of 200 mg/g was reported at pH 8. Kinetics and temperature profiles were evaluated and reported. Desorption study was carried out with 0.1 M HCl. Investigations proved that nZVI-SS is an excellent biosorbent for the sequestration of CV in aqueous media.  相似文献

Fucoidan is a sulfated polysaccharide with promising pharmacological applications. Due to its medicinal properties, there is a demand for a separation technique that yields a high purification grade. Here, we present a novel purification tool for recovering fucoidan from the marine brown macroalgae Fucus vesiculosus. The developed method is based on amino‐derivatized Sepabeads® EC‐EA. The beads were modified with toluidine blue (TB), a thiazine derivative, to exploit the strong donor acceptor interactions between the cationic dye and the anionic polysaccharide. The adsorption kinetics and the binding capacity of the resin were analyzed. A Sips model was used to approximate the adsorption isotherm, resulting in a maximum capacity of 127.7 mg fucoidan per g adsorbent. Investigation of the effect of adsorption step's pH on purity and chemical structure was performed by TB and Fourier transform infra‐red spectroscopy assays. Results showed that adsorption at pH 1 and 6 had negligible effects on fucoidan's chemical structure. However, purity was actually improved by 1.55‐ and 1.69‐fold at pH 1 and 6, respectively, with an average yield of 5 g/100 g dried algae powder. In contrast, only a 1.46‐fold increment was observed in fucoidan purified by the traditional method at pH 2, with a yield of 7.5 g/100 g dried algae powder. Furthermore, fucoidan purified by this method at pH 6 complies with, or even exceeds the quality of the commercially available (≥95% pure) fucoidan (Sigma‐Aldrich®) with respect to molecular weight and sulfur content. Therefore, dye affinity chromatography provides more advantages than the classically used techniques for fucoidan purification.  相似文献

The adsorption of a reactive dye (Reactive Yellow K-4G) and a disperse dye (Disperse yellow brown S-2RFL) onto polyepicholorohydrin-dimethylamine (EPIDMA) cationic polymer modified bentonite (EPIDMA-bentonite) in batch adsorber was studied, respectively. Two equilibrium models, the Langmuir and Freundlich models were selected to follow the adsorption process. It was shown that the equilibrium experimental data for reactive dye adsorption could be well described by the Freundlich model, but for disperse dye the Langmuir model could be better. Based on the well correlated adsorption isotherm, an adsorption process design model was developed for the design of a two-stage batch adsorber to predict the minimum amount of adsorbent to achieve a specified percentage of dye removal at a given volume of wastewater effluents. The adsorption process design analysis indicated that compared with the single-stage batch adsorption, the two-stage process could significantly save adsorbent to meet the higher demands of dye removal efficiency.  相似文献

Varying the parameters such as agitation time, dye concentration, adsorbent dose, pH and temperature carried out the potential feasibility of thermally activated coir pith carbon prepared from coconut husk for removal of methylene blue. Greater percentage of dye was removed with decrease in the initial concentration of dye and increase in amount of adsorbent used. Kinetic study showed that the adsorption of dye on coir pith carbon was a gradual process. Lagergren first-order, second-order, intra particle diffusion model and Bangham were used to fit the experimental data. Equilibrium isotherms were analysed by Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubnin-Radushkevich, and Tempkin isotherm. The adsorption capacity was found to be 5.87 mg/g by Langmuir isotherm for the particle size 250-500 microm. The equilibrium time was found to be 30 and 60 min for 10 and 20 mg/L and 100 min for 30, 40 mg/L dye concentrations, respectively. A maximum removal of 97% was obtained at natural pH 6.9 for an adsorbent dose of 100 mg/50 mL and 100% removal was obtained for an adsorbent dose of 600 mg/50 mL of 10 mg/L dye concentration. The pH effect and desorption studies suggest that chemisorption might be the major mode of the adsorption process. The change in entropy (DeltaS0) and heat of adsorption (DeltaH0) of coir pith carbon was estimated as 117.20 J/mol/K and 30.88 kJ/mol, respectively. The high negative value of change in Gibbs free energy indicates the feasible and spontaneous adsorption of methylene blue on coir pith carbon.  相似文献

CarAlg/MMt nanocomposite hydrogels composed of kappa-carrageenan (Car) and sodium alginate (Alg) biopolymers were synthesized by incorporation of sodium montmorillonite (Na-MMt) nanoclay. Acrylamide (AAm), methylenebisacrylamide (MBA), and ammonium persulfate (APS) were used as monomer, crosslinker, and initiator, respectively. The structure and morphology of nanocomposites were characterized by XRD, SEM, and TEM techniques. The XRD results showed exfoliated MMt nanoclay and exfoliation of MMt was confirmed by TEM graph. The resulting nanocomposites were evaluated to remove cationic crystal violet (CV) dye from water. According to data, the adsorption capacity of nanocomposites was enhanced as the clay content was increased. The experimental data were analyzed according to both Langmuir and Freundlich models and experimental maximum adsorption capacity was obtained 88.8 mg g−1. By studying the effect of pH on the dye adsorption capacity of nanocomposites, it was revealed that the adsorption capacity of nanocomposites was enhanced at acidic pHs as the Na-MMt nanoclay and kappa-carrageenan components were increased.  相似文献

Cibacron Blue 3GA was immobilized on Sepharose CL-6B to obtain a highly substituted dye-ligand adsorbent which dye concentration was 17.4?μmol dye per gram wet gel. This adsorbent had a highly binding capacity for bovine serum albumin (BSA). The effects of ionic strength on the adsorption and desorption of BSA to the adsorbent were studied. Adsorption isotherms were expressed by the Langmuir model. The quantitative relationships between the model parameters and the ionic strength were obtained. The desorptions were performed by adding salt to the BSA solutions in which adsorption equilibria had been reached. Adding salt to the solution resulted in the desorption of the bound protein. It was found that the isotherm obtained from the desorption experiments agreed well to the isotherm obtained from the adsorption experiments at the same ionic strength. The result demonstrated that the adsorption of BSA to the highly substituted adsorbent was reversible.  相似文献

Adsorption kinetic and equilibrium of a basic dye (Astrazon Yellow 7GL) from aqueous solutions at various initial dye concentration (50-300 mg/l), pH (4-10), adsorbent dosage (2-8 g/l), particle size (354-846 microm) and temperature (30-50 degrees C) on wheat bran were studied in a batch mode operation. The result showed that the amount adsorbed of the dye increased with increasing initial dye concentration and contact time, whereas particle size and pH had no significant affect on the amount of dye adsorbed by the adsorbent. A comparison of kinetic models on the overall adsorption rate showed that dye/adsorbent system was best described by the pseudo second-order rate model. The removal rate was also dependent on both external mass transfer and intra-particle diffusion. The low value of the intraparticle diffusivity, 10(-11) cm2/s, indicated the significant influence of intraparticle diffusion on the kinetic control. The adsorption capacity (Q0) calculated from the Langmuir isotherm was 69.06 mg/g for at pH 5.6, 303 K for the particle size of 354 microm. The experimental data yielded excellent fits with Langmuir and Tempkin isotherm equations. Different thermodynamic parameters showed that the reaction was spontaneous and endothermic in nature.  相似文献

The adsorption performance of chitosan (CS) hydrogel beads (CSBs) generated by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) gelation with multi-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) impregnation was investigated for Congo red removal as a model anionic dye. CNT-impregnated CSBs were prepared by four different strategies for dispersing CNTs: (a) in CS solution (CSBN1), (b) in SDS solution (CSBN2), (c) in CS solution containing cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) (CSBN3), and (d) in SDS solution for gelation with CTAB-containing CS solution (CSBN4). It was observed from FE-SEM study that depending on nature of CNT dispersion, CNTs were found on the outer surface of CSBN2 and CSBN4 only. The adsorption capacity of the CSBs varied with the strategy used for CNT impregnation, and CSBN4 exhibited the highest maximum adsorption capacity (375.94 mg/g) from the Sips model. The lowest Sips maximum adsorption capacity by CSBN3 (121.07 mg/g) suggested significant blocking of binding sites of CS by CNT impregnation.  相似文献

Starch/polyaniline nanocomposite was synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline and was subsequently analyzed for dye removal from aqueous solution. Batch experiment results showed that nanocomposite removed 99% of Reactive Black 5, 98% of Reactive Violet 4, and decolorized 87% of dye bath effluent. The Toth isotherm model better described single component equilibrium adsorption, whereas the modified Freundlich model showed satisfactory fit for dye bath. In kinetic modeling, single system followed pseudo-second-order and dye bath followed the modified pseudo-first-order model. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy pattern of the nanocomposite showed the participation of aromatic, amino, hydroxyl, and carboxyl groups. The results indicate that starch/polyaniline nanocomposite can be used as an effective adsorbent for removal of dyes from textile effluents.  相似文献

This study was aimed at using sugar extracted spent rice biomass (SRB) as a potential adsorbent to remove methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solution. The SRB was used without any modification. A three factor full factorial experimental design (2(3)) was employed to investigate the effect of factors (adsorbent dose, dye concentration, temperature) and their interaction on the adsorption capacity and color removal. Two levels for each factor were used; adsorbent dose (0.25-0.5g/100mL), dye concentration (25-50mg/L), and temperature (25-45°C). Initial dye concentration and adsorbent dosage were found as significant factors for the adsorption of MB dye. Langmuir isotherm (R(2)>0.998) best explained the equilibrium of MB adsorption on SRB with monolayer adsorption capacity of 8.13mg/g. The pseudo-second order model (R(2)>0.999) was best fitted to explain the adsorption kinetics. Thermodynamic investigation revealed that the adsorption process was spontaneous, endothermic, and was feasible to treat dyeing wastewater.  相似文献

The adsorption of cationic basic blue 9 and anionic acid orange 51 from aqueous solution onto the calcified eggshell (ES) and its ground eggshell powder (ESP) was carried out by varying the process parameters such as agitation speed, initial dye concentration, adsorbent mass and temperature. The adsorption potential for basic blue 9 onto ESP is far lower than that for acid orange 51, mainly due to the ionic interaction between the acid dye with the sulfonate groups and the positively charged sites on the surface of ESP. The adsorption capacity of acid orange 51 onto ES is significantly smaller than that onto ESP, which is in line with their pore properties (i.e., 1 vs. 21 m(2)/g). The experimental results showed that the adsorption process can be well described with a simple model, the pseudo-second-order model. According to the equilibrium adsorption capacity from the fitting of pseudo-second order reaction model, it was further found that the Freundlich model yields a somewhat better fit than the Langmuir model in the adsorption of acid orange 51 onto ESP. In addition, an increase in adsorption temperature from 15 to 45 degrees C significantly enhances the adsorption capacity of acid orange 51 onto ESP, revealing that the adsorption should be an endothermic or chemisorption process. From the results, it is feasible to utilize the ground eggshell waste as an effective adsorbent for removal of anionic dye from aqueous solution.  相似文献

A novel affinity sorbent system for direct bilirubin removal from human plasma was developed. These new adsorbents comprise Cibacron Blue F3GA as the specific ligand, and microporous membranous poly(tetrafluoroethylene) capillary (modified by coating with a hydrophilic layer of poly(vinyl alcohol) after activation) as the carrier matrix. The affinity adsorbents carrying 126.5 micromol Cibacron Blue F3GA/g polymer was then used to remove bilirubin in a flow-injection system. Non-specific adsorption on the poly(vinyl alcohol) coated capillary remains low, and higher affinity adsorption capacity, of up to 76.2 mg/g polymer was obtained after dye immobilization. The bilirubin adsorption capacity of the affinity capillary decreased with increase in the recirculation rate of plasma. The adsorption capacity increased with increase the temperature while decreased with increase the ionic strength. The maximum adsorption was only observed in neutral solution (pH 6-7). The adsorption isotherm fitted the Langmuir model well. These new adsorbents have higher velocity of mass transfer, better adsorption capacity, less fouling, longer service life and good reusability. The results of blood tests suggested the dye affinity capillary has good blood compatibility.  相似文献
