Physical-chemical conditions, phytoplankton productivity, community structure and productivity of the macroinvertebrate benthic community were determined during 1976–77 in a subtropical reservoir. Physical-chemical results revealed high nitrate and phosphate concentrations with highest values in the riverine segment. Large phytoplankton populations were present during most of the year. Phytoplankton productivity was high, producing an annual mean of 87 mg C · m−3 · h−1 (12 hours light day). High turbidity in the riverine segment limited phytoplankton productivity during winter and spring. Macrobenthos was dominated by chironomids (Chironomus, Procladius, Coelotanypus and Tanypus) and oligochaetes (Limnodrilus). The annual mean benthic population was estimated at 1,626 · m−2 with a mean dry weight of 0.66 g · m−2. Mean benthic species diversity was 1.80. A lacustrine-riverine community gradient was revealed. Benthic productivity was 6.8 g · m−2 · yr−1 (dry weight) with a P: B ratio of 10. A low correlation was observed between benthic and phytoplankton productivity, and between phytoplankton standing crop and benthic macroinvertebrate numbers throughout the reservoir. Algal food supplies had little impact on the benthic community which was composed predominately of species which fed mostly on organic detritus. Stressful conditions caused by low dissolved oxygen concentrations probably inhibited development of the benthic community throughout the reservoir during summer months, while high sedimentation rates limited development in the head waters.  相似文献

In August 2004 and 2005, an extensive study of the fish community was carried out in the largest water supply reservoir in the Czech Republic and Central Europe, the canyon‐shaped ?elivka Reservoir, using a fleet of Nordic multimesh gillnets. Fishes were sampled at eight locations along the longitudinal profile of the reservoir and at five benthic depth layers covering depths from the surface down to 18 m (benthic gillnet 1·5 m high), and at three pelagic depth layers down to the depth of 5 m above the bottom (pelagic gillnets 4·5 m high). Catches of both juvenile (age 0+ year) and adult (fishes >1 year) fishes were highest in the upper layers of the water column (i.e. in the epilimnion down to 5 m, and down to 10 m in the benthic habitats). Along the tributary–dam axis in the pelagic habitats, both juvenile and adult fishes preferred the upper part of the reservoir, where the maximum number of species and also the greatest abundance of zooplankton were found. In the benthic habitats, fishes selected location according to factors other than trophic status. More juvenile fishes were recorded in the benthic habitats than in the pelagic habitats. Depth had the largest explanatory power for predicting fish community composition, followed by the affiliation with benthic and pelagic habitats, and location on the longitudinal axis of the reservoir. The fish community was represented mainly by cyprinids and consisted of two distinct groups of species, with bleak Alburnus alburnus, rudd Scardinius erythrophthalmus and asp Aspius aspius dominating the offshore group while perch Perca fluviatilis and ruffe Gymnocephalus cernuus were affiliated with the inshore group of the adult fish community. Roach Rutilus rutilus, bream Abramis brama and pikeperch Sander lucioperca occurred in important proportions in both the inshore and the offshore zones. All species, with the exceptions of adult perch (1+ year and older), 0+ year perch and 0+ year roach, preferred the most eutrophic tributary part of the reservoir. 为探究三峡水库修建对库区不同水文类型支流大型底栖动物的影响,于2015年7月和2016年1月对三峡水库四条支流的大型底栖动物进行调研,分别对周期性受蓄水影响支流的非回水区与回水区和长期受蓄水影响支流的非回水区与回水区大型底栖动物群落结构进行比较研究,结果表明:⑴7月份三峡水库145米低水位时期共采集到底栖动物655头计59种(属),在受蓄水影响河段采集到底栖动物4种共40头,优势种为日本沼虾(占受蓄水影响区域的57.5%); 1月份三峡水库175米蓄水时期共采集到底栖动物1123头计69种(属),在受蓄水影响河段采集到16种238头,优势种为锯齿新米虾(占受蓄水影响区域的14.2%)。⑵周期性受蓄水影响支流的非回水区与回水区底栖动物密度、生物量和多样性指数无显著差异(P0.05);长期受蓄水影响支流的非回水区与回水区之间底栖动物密度和Pielou均匀度指数无显著差异(P0.05),但非回水区底栖动物生物量显著高于回水区(P0.05),底栖动物多样性和丰富度极显著高于回水区(P0.01)。⑶7月份影响底栖动物分布的主要环境因子共6个,分别是水深、流速、硝态氮、溶解氧、水温和电导率; 1月份影响底栖动物分布的主要环境因子共7个,分别是水温、溶解氧、总磷、流速、深度、电导率和透明度。  相似文献

Microcystis is a toxic freshwater cyanobacterium with an annual life cycle characterized by the alternation of a planktonic proliferation stage in summer and a benthic resting stage in winter. Given the importance of both stages for the development and the survival of the population, we investigated the genotypic composition of the planktonic and benthic Microcystis subpopulations from the Grangent reservoir (France) during two distinct proliferation periods. Our results showed a succession of different dominant genotypes in the sediment as well as in the water all along the study periods with some common genotypes to both compartments. Analysis of molecular variance and UniFrac analysis confirmed the similarity between some benthic and planktonic samples, thus evidencing exchanges of genotypes between water and sediment. Thanks to these data, recruitment and sedimentation were proven not to be restricted to spring and autumn, contrary to what was previously thought. Finally, genetic diversity was significantly higher in the sediment than in the water (P < 0.01; Student's t‐test). Taken together, our results shed light on the hidden contribution of the benthic compartment in maintaining the genetic diversity of Microcystis populations throughout their annual cycle, which could explain their ecological success in aquatic ecosystems.  相似文献

While the importance of canopy‐forming algae in structuring ecosystems is recognized, their role in the carbon budget is still not well understood. To our knowledge, no measurements of rocky shores primary production and respiration under emersion periods have been carried out in situ. A benthic chamber coupled to a CO2‐infrared gas analyzer was used to measure gross primary production and respiration on the Ascophyllum nodosum (L.) Le Jol. zone of a sheltered rocky shore in Brittany, France. Over a year of monthly measurements on the zone with and without the A. nodosum canopy showed fairly high production and respiration values for the global community as well as carbon fluxes due to the canopy that largely dominated the benthic metabolism of the zone. The strong canopy respiration relative to the primary production also suggested a high metabolic activity by microscopic heterotrophs on the surface of the alga. Both the canopy and the understory annual primary production and respiration were under the control of light and temperature seasonal variations. Finally, the range of the amount of carbon produced on the A. nodosum zone during diurnal emersions was estimated. Additional measures accounting for the day–night cycles and seasonal light variations over an entire tidal cycle are, however, necessary to establish an annual carbon budget. Such measures using the benthic chamber together with complementary techniques would allow a better understanding of the functioning of sheltered rocky shores.  相似文献

Total community, planktonic and benthic metabolisms were measured by using the carbon dioxide production and consumption, the diurnal curve' method and the in situ bottle incubation technique over an annual cycle in two sublagoons of the Saquarema Lagoon, Brazil. Metabolic rates of the phytoplankton-based lagoon were characterized by considerable daytime and daily variability in production and respiration, by a seasonal shift between net autotrophy and heterotrophy and by an annual balance of production (P = 105 ± 65 mmoles/m2/dayn = 25) and respiration (R = 102 ± 50 mmoles/m2/dayn = 25). Total community metabolism was similar throughout the lagoon, but phytoplankton assimilation rates and benthic respiration showed spatial differences. Bottle incubations compared to total community free water respiration suggested that the pelagic community was 2–5 times more active than the benthos  相似文献

Benthic stages of the annual life cycle of the meroplanktonic cyanobacterium Microcystis spp. in relation to microcystin (MCYST) dynamics in sediments of a shallow lake (Quitzdorf Reservoir, Germany) were investigated. Based on changes in the absolute abundance of benthic Microcystis, the annual life cycle was subdivided into four phenological stages: reinvasion, pelagic growth, sedimentation, and overwintering. Habitat‐coupling processes, such as reinvasion of the pelagic zone in spring as well as autumnal sedimentation, were particularly triggered by changes in water temperature. During reinvasion substantial losses of Microcystis were detected. Only a minor part of benthic Microcystis (about 3%) formed the inoculum for pelagic growth. Between 65% and 85% of the benthic Microcystis stock disappeared during the reinvasion phase. Because these colonies were neither detected within the sediments nor in the pelagic inoculum, it was concluded that they were subjected to decay. The occurrence of extracellular MCYSTs in the pelagic zone during this period, which cannot solely originate from the pelagic Microcystis population, supports this conclusion. Dynamics of benthic Microcystis and MCYSTs were characterized by almost identical successions with a decrease during reinvasion, an increase during sedimentation, and remarkable invariability throughout pelagic growth and overwintering. It can be deduced that MCYSTs are preserved within benthic resting stages of Microcystis because they could play a role during overwintering or reinvasion.  相似文献

The inter-annual variation in the structure of the benthic community of riffles and pools was evaluated in contrasting geomorphic settings. The community structure of riffles and pools was a function of habitat, reach gradient, and discharge and was taxon specific. In years of below average peak discharge, riffles had higher taxon richness than pools (66 versus47) but richness was similar between habitats during a year of average discharge (56 versus 54). The percentage composition of oligochaetes and elmid beetles was more variable inter-annually in pools and low gradient reaches than in high gradient reaches. Differences in the percentage of collector-gatherers and scrapers in riffles and pools appeared related to inter-annual differences in discharge regimes. Two components of the annual discharge regime appear to differentially affect the composition of the benthic community in the snowmelt dominated stream studied: the magnitude of the annual peak discharge and the duration and timing of the period of extended high flow.  相似文献

SUMMARY. 1. The abundance and composition of entomostracan zooplankton were studied between 1977 and 1984 in relation to abiotic and biotic conditions in Lake le Roux (LLR), a large silt-laden reservoir on the Orange River formed in 1976. The community consisted of Metadiaptomus meridianus, Lovenula excellens (Calanoida), Daphnia gibba, D. barbata, D. longispina and Moina brachiata (Cladocera), and various Cyclopoida. 2. Zooplankton biomass varied seasonally from winter lows below 50 mg m?2 dry wt at temperatures of 9–10°C to summer peaks generally above 1000 mg m?2 at 21–23°C. It correlated strongly and positively with prevailing water temperature and transparency but only weakly with chlorophyll concentration. 3. Mean annual zooplankton biomass, which varied four-fold (97–408 mg m?2) in 7 years, increased with annual mean transparency (23–75 cm Secchi depth) and especially with summer heat content (33–230 degree-days above 20°C) which was itself positively correlated with transparency. 4. Daphnid species showed most annual variation in abundance. Large forms(D. gibba and D. barbata) were scarce or absent in two years of very low transparency and low planktivore abundance. The smaller D. longispina developed once during clearer conditions when more fish were present. Copepod biomass also varied inversely with turbidity, but was not as severely reduced at high turbidities. 5. Smallmouth yellowfish(Barbus aeneus: Cyprinidae) is the principal planktivore and candidate fishery species in LLR. It feeds selectively on Lovenula and large daphnids. Catches and growth rates of yellowfish varied directly with the abundance of zooplankton, particularly large food forms, and with water transparency. High turbidity and associated food limitation seems to reduce standing stocks especially of the daphnid zooplankton more than the effects of fish predation. 6. Spawning of yellowfish depends upon the release of water from an upstream reservoir which concurrently reduces transparency and thus zooplankton availability in LLR. Transparency values above 30–35cm SD appear necessary for the development of sufficient and suitable zooplankton to benefit the fishery.  相似文献

Mediterranean‐type streams are characterized by great seasonal and annual variation in flow. We studied the biology of the freshwater mussel Unio tumidiformis in such a stream, the Vascão River in southern Portugal, during a period of great interannual variation in hydrology. We studied growth patterns of the mussels between 2002–2008, and the reproductive cycle between 2005–2006. Life‐history parameters were calculated and related to environmental variables and fish community patterns. Mark–recapture growth data confirmed that observed annuli were formed annually and are therefore reliable for use in growth studies of U. tumidiformis. The von Bertalanffy growth constant K and the asymptotic length L were negatively correlated. K varied between 0.20 and 0.58 and was positively correlated with factors related to eutrophication. The maximum observed age was 7 years, and the maximum observed length was 52 mm. There was no apparent sexual dimorphism, and sexual maturity was reached at the age of 2 years. Fecundity was low, between 1500–15000 glochidia per female, and positively correlated with body length. Only one annual gametogenic cycle was identified, leading to a short‐term reproductive period in spring (tachyticity). The reproductive cycle was similar in the two years sampled, between which hydrology and water quality differed greatly. The presence of glochidia was synchronized with the period when the proportion of fish hosts (genus Squalius) was higher in the fish community. Unio tumidiformis seems to be well adapted to the natural variability in flow in temporary Mediterranean‐type streams. Modifications of the natural flow regime caused by climate change or increased water exploitation may lead to rapid declines in mussel populations.  相似文献

SUMMARY 1. The effects of cattle grazing on stream bank stability, biomass of riparian vegetation, instream vegetation cover, biomass of coarse particulate organic matter (CPOM) and epilithon and benthic invertebrate community structure were investigated over a 2‐year period using: (i) enclosures containing different cattle grazing treatments and (ii) by comparing streams with different grazing intensities in the Cypress Hills Provincial Park, Alberta, Canada. 2. Livestock enclosure experiments comprised four treatments of: (1) early season cattle grazing (June–August), (2) late season cattle grazing (August–September), (3) all season cattle grazing (June–September) and (4) cattle‐absent controls. All four treatments were replicated in two streams while two treatments (i.e. cattle‐absent controls, early season cattle grazing) were established in a third stream. 3. Bank stability, estimated visually based on sediment inputs to the stream channel, increased significantly in cattle‐absent treatments compared with cattle‐present enclosures over the 2‐year study period. 4. Epilithic chlorophyll a was significantly affected by time, but neither cattle nor the interaction of time and treatment were significant. 5. At the end of the experiment, total invertebrate biomass in the late and all‐season treatment exceeded that in the early and cattle‐absent treatments. However, excluding cattle from the streams, at any of the different treatments, had little clear impact on the total benthic invertebrate abundance or the abundance of the predominant functional feeding groups over the 2‐year study period. 6. In contrast, comparisons of benthic assemblages from streams with different grazing intensities showed that the non‐grazed reach of Storm Creek contained significantly higher biomass of CPOM and shredders compared with the cattle‐absent enclosures in Battle, Graburn and Nine Mile creeks. Redundancy analysis showed that benthic communities from all enclosures and Storm Creek in summer and autumn 2000 were affected primarily by CPOM biomass, pH, nitrate, turbidity and benthic chlorophyll a. Construction of a 99% probability ellipse from enclosure sites showed that invertebrate communities from livestock enclosures differed from that in the non‐grazed Storm Creek. 7. Results from stream‐scale comparisons indicate that current livestock grazing practices in the Cypress Hills significantly impact riparian zones, stream channels and benthic invertebrate community structure and that alternative practices, such as rotational grazing, need to be developed.  相似文献

A critical component in the effort to restore the Kissimmee River ecosystem is the reestablishment of an aquatic invertebrate community typical of free‐flowing rivers of the southeastern United States. This article evaluates early responses of benthic and snag‐dwelling macroinvertebrates to restoration of flow and habitat structure following Phase I construction (interim period) of the Kissimmee River Restoration Project. Replicate benthic and snag samples were collected from remnant river channels in Pool A (Control site), and Pool C, the site of the first phase of restoration (Impact site). Samples were collected quarterly for 2 years prior to construction (baseline) and monthly or quarterly for 3 years following Phase I construction and restoration of flow. Baseline benthic data indicate a community dominated by taxa tolerant of organic pollution and low levels of dissolved oxygen, including the dipterans Chaoborus americanus (Chaoboridae) and the Chironomus/Goeldichironomus group (Chironomidae). Baseline snag data indicate a community dominated by gathering‐collectors, shredders, and scrapers. Passive filtering‐collector invertebrates were rare. Following restoration of flow, benthic invertebrate communities are numerically dominated by lotic taxa, including bivalves and sand‐dwelling chironomids (e.g. Polypedilum spp., Cryptochironomus spp., and Tanytarsini). Snags within the Phase I area support an invertebrate community dominated by passive filtering‐collectors including Rheotanytarsus spp. (Chironomidae) and Cheumatopsyche spp. (Hydropsychidae). Results indicate that restoration of flow has resulted in ecologically significant changes to the river habitat template not observed in Pool A. Observed shifts in benthic and snag macroinvertebrate community structure support previously developed hypotheses for macroinvertebrate responses to hydrologic restoration.  相似文献

Abstract. The upper courses of brook valley systems harbour Nardo‐Galion saxatilis communities characteristic of oligo‐trophic soils under low‐intensity farming. Most of these communities have disappeared under intensified farming i.e. application of fertilizers. We studied the possibilities of restoration i.e. re‐establishment of the former plant community by adopting various cutting regimes after the cessation of fertilization in 1972. The various cutting regimes revealed different effects after 25 yr. Regimes with cutting every second year with or without removal of the swath, and complete abandonment deviated from the other regimes that included annual haymaking with different frequency and timing. The latter group of cutting regimes came closer to the community of an adjacent field where fertilization stopped in 1967. This field in turn harboured several Nardo‐Galion species after 25 yr of annual cutting, and showed more resemblance with a local reference community (at a distance of 500 m) that had not been fertilized since the 1940s. The local reference still does not match poorly developed Nardo‐Galion saxatilis communities found in the region of ca. 50 km around the study area, and is far from well developed Nardo‐Galion communities in the same region. The study site still harbours several species characteristic of eutrophic soil and few species characteristic of oligotrophic soil after 25 yr of annual cutting and removal of the swath. The soil seed bank harbours only few target species. Although species characteristic of oligotrophic soil are present in an adjacent field and Nardo‐Galion saxatilis species occur at 500 m, they have not (yet) established in the target area.  相似文献

Seven ephemeral pools on the coastal plain of southern Brazil were found to be inhabited by three annual and 22 non‐annual fish species. Two common annual species (Austrolebias minuano and Cynopoecilus fulgens) exhibited clear seasonal dynamics, with the appearance of young fishes in the austral autumn (May to June) and a decline in abundance over the seasonal cycle. The third annual species, Austrolebias wolterstorffii, was rare. No seasonal dynamics were observed in non‐annual fishes. The relative abundance of non‐annual fishes compared with annual fishes increased over the seasonal cycle, but they coexisted widely. The size structure of annual fishes suggested the presence of a single age cohort in most pools though a second age cohort was registered in one pool in August, coinciding with a large flooding. Strong sexual dimorphism in body size was found in C. fulgens throughout the seasonal cycle, while no sexual dimorphism in body size was found in A. minuano. Female‐biased sex ratios were recorded in both common annual fish species in the last three sampling dates (in spring), but not during the first two sampling dates (in winter). The natural lifespan of annual fishes was <8 months. Annual fishes disappeared before habitat desiccation in half of the pools, while non‐annual fishes were still present.  相似文献

Annual Patterns in Bacterioplankton Community Variability in a Humic Lake   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Bacterioplankton community composition (BCC) was monitored in a shallow humic lake in northern Wisconsin, USA, over 3 years using automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (ARISA). Comparison of ARISA profiles of bacterial communities over time indicated that BCC was highly variable on a seasonal and annual scale. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis indicated little similarity in BCC from year to year. Nevertheless, annual patterns in bacterioplankton community diversity were observed. Trends in bacterioplankton community diversity were correlated to annual patterns in community succession observed for phytoplankton and zooplankton populations, consistent with the notion that food web interactions affect bacterioplankton community structure in this humic lake. Bacterioplankton communities experience a dramatic drop in richness and abundance each year in early summer, concurrent with an increase in the abundance of both mixotrophic and heterotrophic flagellates. A second drop in richness, but not abundance, is observed each year in late summer, coinciding with an intense bloom of the nonphagotrophic dinoflagellate Peridinium limbatum. A relationship between bacterial community composition, size, and abundance and the population dynamics of Daphnia was also observed. The noted synchrony between these major population and species shifts suggests that linkages across trophic levels play a role in determining the annual time course of events for the microbial and metazoan components of the plankton.  相似文献

流溪河水库是位于北回归线上的大型峡谷型供水水库,于2013—2014年对该水库敞水区轮虫群落及其环境因子进行观测,分析敞水区轮虫多样性与群落动态特征。流溪河水库介于贫营养到中营养水平之间,丰水期(5月—9月)的总磷、透明度均高于枯水期(10月—4月),两年的总磷的平均值为0.019mg/L,透明度为2.55m。两年共检出轮虫40种,单月检出物种数波动范围为8—19种,月均检出轮虫13种。螺形龟甲轮虫、真翅多肢轮虫、沟痕泡轮虫和胶鞘轮虫是主要优势轮虫。2013、2014年轮虫年均总丰度分别为68.9、66.9个/L,两年物种丰富度在丰水期大于枯水期,但枯水期轮虫群落Simpson多样性指数均大于丰水期。采用Bray-Curtis距离测度群落之间的相异性,计算表明两年的枯水期轮虫群落之间的平均距离均大于丰水期,即丰水期时轮虫群落相似性较高,枯水期时轮虫群落变异较大。丰水期的水温和水质参数的变化相对稳定,种类的优势度更为明显,导致丰水期群落之间更为相似。主成分分析表明,无柄轮属、胶鞘轮属、多肢轮属、异尾轮属、泡轮属、晶囊轮属和皱甲轮属的主要种类的全年分布有较大的差异,而其余多数轮虫种类全年分布差异较小,反映了我国南亚热带地区水温全年变幅小,可维持较多的全年性种类共存。群落的方差解析与RDA分析表明,相对于生物与化学变量,物理环境变量主导了流溪河水库敞水区轮虫群落的变异,就单个变量而言,水温和食物是影响流溪河水库敞水区轮虫群落结构的重要因素,降雨则是影响轮虫群落结构变异的宏观因素。绝大多数轮虫为滤食性的,处于食物链底端,个体小、生活史短,轮虫群落在对环境因子变化的响应上与浮游植物具有相似性。  相似文献

The Abra alba community is considered as a faunistical unity well established on coastal areas of North Sea. This community shows, since several years, very important recruitments of certain species. Since 1978, recruitments of Abra alba, Tellina fabula, Phyllodoce (Anaïtides) mucosa, Lagis koreni or Lanice conchilega have been observed. However these demographic phenomena does not affect the structure of the community, which shows, through rank-frequency diagrams, the characteristic of a mature population, principally constituted of 7 species.An annual cycle study shows a succession of recruitments of several species. A correspondance factorial analysis was realised from grain size datas as well as abundances of 18 main species. This analysis shows an annual cycle which seems to be linked to the clay part. Maximal values of clay part appears in summer and minimal values at the end of winter or early springtime.The hydrological parameters studied, allowed to make the difference between external factors (continental contributions, phytoplanctonic activity etc...) and benthic activity.

Quantified were the age, growth, mortality and reproductive structure of lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) collected in the US and Canadian waters of the Namakan Reservoir. The hypotheses were tested that (i) age and growth of lake sturgeon in the Namakan Reservoir would differ by sex and reproductive stage of maturity, and (ii) that the relative strength of year‐classes of lake sturgeon in the reservoir would be affected by environmental variables. To quantify age, growth and mortality of the population, existing data was used from a multi‐agency database containing information on all lake sturgeon sampled in the reservoir from 2004 to 2009. Lake sturgeon were sampled in the Minnesota and Ontario waters of the Namakan Reservoir using multi‐filament gillnets 1.8 m high and 30–100 m long and varying in mesh size from 178 to 356 mm stretch. Reproductive structure of the lake sturgeon was assessed only during spring 2008 and 2009 using plasma testosterone and estradiol‐17β concentrations. Ages of lake sturgeon >75 cm ranged from 9 to 86 years (n = 533, mean = 36 years). A catch‐curve analysis using the 1981–1953 year classes estimated total annual mortality of adults to be 4.8% and annual survival as 95.2%. Using logistic regression analysis, it was found that total annual precipitation was positively associated with lake sturgeon year‐class strength in the Namakan Reservoir. A 10 cm increase in total annual precipitation was associated with at least a 39% increase in the odds of occurrence of a strong year class of lake sturgeon in the reservoir. Plasma steroid analysis revealed a sex ratio of 2.4 females: 1 male and, on average, 10% of female and 30% of male lake sturgeon were reproductively mature each year (i.e. potential spawners). Moreover, there was evidence based on re‐captured male fish of both periodic and annual spawning, as well as the ability of males to rapidly undergo gonadal maturation prior to spawning. Knowledge of lake sturgeon reproductive structure and factors influencing recruitment success contribute to the widespread conservation efforts for this threatened species.  相似文献
