Efforts toward the conservation and captive breeding of wildlife can be enhanced by sperm sorting and associated reproductive technologies such as sperm cryopreservation and artificial insemination (AI). Sex ratio management is of particular significance to species which naturally exist in female-dominated social groups. A bias of the sex ratio towards females of these species will greatly assist in maintaining socially cohesive groups and minimizing male-male aggression. Another application of this technology potentially exists for endangered species, as the preferential production of females can enable propagation of those species at a faster rate. The particular assisted reproductive technology (ART) used in conjunction with sperm sorting for the production of offspring is largely determined by the quality and quantity of spermatozoa following sorting and preservation processes. Regardless of the ART selected, breeding decisions involving sex-sorted spermatozoa should be made in conjunction with appropriate genetic management. Zoological-based research on reproductive physiology and assisted reproduction, including sperm sorting, is being conducted on numerous terrestrial and marine mammals. The wildlife species for which the technology has undergone the most advance is the bottlenose dolphin. AI using sex-sorted fresh or frozen-thawed spermatozoa has become a valuable tool for the genetic and reproductive management of captive bottlenose dolphins with six pre-sexed calves, all of the predetermined sex born to date.  相似文献

Many felid species are endangered because of destructive human activities. As a result, zoos are being tasked with sustaining genetically healthy populations in case of catastrophic extinctions. Unfortunately, with the exception of a few species, most felids do not reproduce well in captivity. The ability to track reproductive activity via hormones is key to developing successful ex situ breeding programs. Through the development of noninvasive fecal hormone monitoring techniques, a high degree of variability in estrous cycle characteristics has been found to exist across the taxon, including the type of ovulation. For example, although all felids have induced ovulations, the occurrence of spontaneous ovulations varies across species, and even between individuals within a species. Clouded leopards, fishing cats and margays frequently have spontaneous ovulations, whereas these are rarely observed in the cheetah, tigrina and ocelot. There are marked species differences in the impact of season on reproductive function, with some being exquisitely sensitive to photoperiod (e.g., Pallas' cat), some moderately affected (tiger, clouded leopard, snow leopard), and others that are not influenced at all (e.g., ocelot, tigrina, margay, lion, leopard, fishing cat). One of the greatest challenges remaining is overcoming the problems associated with highly variable ovarian responses to ovulation induction therapies used with assisted reproductive procedures, like artificial insemination (AI). Success is relatively high in the cheetah and ocelot, but few pregnancies have resulted after AI in clouded leopard, fishing cat and tiger. Current knowledge of the reproductive physiology of nondomestic felids, including aspects of the anatomy, behavior and ovarian cycles will be presented, and how the rapidly growing endocrine database is aiding ex situ management efforts.  相似文献

Of the 37 felid species, all but the domestic cat are classified as threatened with extinction in all or part of their native range. Additionally, the domestic cat is a valuable model for human biomedical research. Propagating some wild felids as well as domestic cat populations serving as human models is a major challenge primarily due to difficulties in transporting animals between facilities to ensure the pairing of genetically matched individuals, behavioral incompatibility between pairs and low fertility. Artificial insemination (AI) and in vitro fertilization/embryo transfer (IVF/ET) are powerful tools for helping manage rare populations. Developing successful assisted reproductive techniques requires knowledge of the female reproductive cycle and precise control of ovarian activity. Successful ovarian stimulation for AI and IVF/ET has been achieved in at least one-third of all cat species. However, sensitivity to a given gonadotropin treatment appears highly species-specific, and poor responses are common, particularly in felid species that exhibit spontaneous ovulations. Furthermore, current gonadotropin regimens have been demonstrated to perturb female reproductive function often leading to reduced fertility. Overall, ovarian response to exogenous hormonal stimulation has been highly variable, and pregnancy success after AI or IVF/ET remains low (<20%) in most species. Therefore, there is an immediate need to develop improved regimens that would allow more predictable ovarian responses in felids. We contend that recent research involving the use of progestins to control the ovary prior to gonadotropin stimulation shows promise for providing consistent ovarian stimulation in felids.  相似文献

Artificial insemination (AI) and the cryopreservation of sperm with full reproductive capabilities are vital in the armamentarium of infertility clinics and reproductive laboratories. Notwithstanding the fantastic successes with AI and sperm cryopreservation in numerous species, including humans and cattle, these assisted reproductive technologies are less well developed in other species of importance for biomedical research, such as genetically modified mice and nonhuman primates. To that end, AI at high efficiency in the rhesus macaque (Macaca mullata) and the successful cryopreservation of rhesus sperm is presented here, as are the complexities of this primate model due to differences in reproductive tract anatomy and gamete physiology. Cryopreservation had no effect on the ability of sperm to fertilize oocytes in vitro or in vivo. Post-thaw progressive motility was not affected by cryopreservation; however, acrosome integrity was lower for cryopreserved (74.1%) than for fresh sperm (92.7%). Fertilization rates did not differ when fresh (58.1%; n = 32/55) or cryopreserved sperm (63.8%; n = 23/36) were used for in vitro fertilization. Similarly, pregnancy rates did not differ significantly after AI with fresh (57.1%; n = 8/14) or cryopreserved sperm (62.5%; n = 5/8). Seven live rhesus macaques were born following AI with fresh sperm, and three live offspring and two ongoing pregnancies were obtained when cryopreserved sperm were used. Cryopreservation of rhesus sperm as presented here would allow for the cost-effective storage of lineages of nonhuman primates with known genotypes. These results suggest that either national or international centers could be established as repositories to fill the global needs of sperm for nonhuman primate research and to provide the experimental foundation on which to explore and perfect the preservation of sperm from endangered nonhuman primates.  相似文献

Assisted reproductive techniques (gamete cryopreservation, artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and in vitro fertilization) allow to propagate small fragmented populations of wild endangered species or domestic breeds. There are the best way for producing several offspring from selected genitors in order to avoid inbreeding depression. However, few mammalian species have been well studied for their reproductive biology whereas huge differences have been observed between these species. Furthermore, materials, methods and experimental designs have to be adapted for each case and each limiting factor (wildness, poor quantity of biological material, disparate locations). Genome resource banking is currently arising and the most applied reproductive biotechnology remains artificial insemination. Assisted reproductive techniques currently developed in domestic species (intracytoplasmic sperm injection, nuclear transfer) may offer new opportunities for the propagation of endangered species.  相似文献

We have tried to establish sperm banking for the endangered Poitou donkeys. No successful cryopreservation technique had been described for spermatozoa of this species; our preliminary work indicated that a particular medium and procedure may be effective for cryopreservation of Poitou jackass spermatozoa as evaluated by sperm motility, membrane integrity and pregnancy rate after AI with frozen-thawed semen. We found that glutamine at 80 mM and 10% (v/v) quail egg yolk in a basal medium containing 4% (v/v) glycerol (T2-94 medium) improved the post-thaw total and progressive motility and velocity assessed with the automated analyzer ATS-M. The T2-94 medium also preserved the sperm nuclear, acrosom, and plasma membrane integrity as assessed with the acridine orange method, fluorescein-conjugated Pisum sativum agglutinin (FITC-PSA) lectin procedure, and hypo-osmotic swelling test, respectively. Semen frozen-thawed in T2-94 medium as used to artificially inseminate. 13 Poitou jennies from the beginning of estrus to ovulation during 4 cycles at a rate of one AI per day. Heigh pregnancies and 3 foals were obtained, but only when the glycerol was removed from sperm before AI. We conclude that the cryopreservation of Poitou jackass semen for sperm banking may succeed by using the T2-94 medium and removing the glycerol post-thaw, but before AI.  相似文献

We evaluated the influence of two cooling rates (from 25 to 5 degrees C) on post-thaw function of frozen sperm in ocelots (Leopardus pardalis; n=3 males) and tigrinas (Leopardus tigrinus; n=4 males). Seven normospermic (>70% normal sperm) electroejaculates from each species were diluted with a 4% glycerol freezing medium, divided into two aliquots, and assigned to one of two cooling rates: fast or slow (0.7 or 0.16 degrees C/min, respectively). Sperm motility index (SMI) and percentage of sperm with an intact acrosome were assessed before freezing and after thawing, and the ability of sperm to bind to the zona pellucida of IVM domestic cat oocytes were assessed in a competitive in vitro sperm-binding assay. Regardless of the cooling rate, frozen-thawed sperm from both species exhibited a SMI of 50; approximately 20 and approximately 32% of post-thaw sperm had an intact acrosome in ocelots and tigrinas, respectively (P<0.05). The mean (+/-S.E.M.) number of sperm bound per oocyte was higher for fast-cooled (8.5+/-1.3) than slow-cooled (2.5+/-0.3; P<0.01) ocelot sperm. In contrast, more tigrina sperm bound to domestic cat oocytes when cooled slowly versus quickly (5.8+/-0.9 versus 2.7+/-0.4, P<0.05). In conclusion, cryopreservation decreased sperm function in both species, and the oocyte-binding assay was the most efficient method to detect functional differences in post-thaw sperm.  相似文献

Assisted breeding technology (ART), including artificial insemination (AI), has the potential to advance the conservation and welfare of marsupials. Many of the challenges facing AI and ART for marsupials are shared with other wild species. However, the marsupial mode of reproduction and development also poses unique challenges and opportunities. For the vast majority of marsupials, there is a dearth of knowledge regarding basic reproductive biology to guide an AI strategy. For threatened or endangered species, only the most basic reproductive information is available in most cases, if at all. Artificial insemination has been used to produce viable young in two marsupial species, the koala and tammar wallaby. However, in these species the timing of ovulation can be predicted with considerably more confidence than in any other marsupial. In a limited number of other marsupials, such precise timing of ovulation has only been achieved using hormonal treatment leading to conception but not live young. A unique marsupial ART strategy which has been shown to have promise is cross-fostering; the transfer of pouch young of a threatened species to the pouches of foster mothers of a common related species as a means to increase productivity. For the foreseeable future, except for a few highly iconic or well studied species, there is unlikely to be sufficient reproductive information on which to base AI. However, if more generic approaches can be developed; such as ICSI (to generate embryos) and female synchronization (to provide oocyte donors or embryo recipients), then the prospects for broader application of AI/ART to marsupials are promising.  相似文献

Cryopreservation of domestic animal sperm has been widely used for artificial insemination (AI), and egg yolk is one of the most commonly used cryoprotectants during the freezing-thawing process. The objectives of this study were to compare the effectiveness of egg yolk from five avian species (domestic chicken, domestic duck, domestic goose, Japanese quail or domestic pigeon) and to optimize the concentration of egg yolk on the cryopreservation of bull sperm in terms of frozen-thawed sperm progressive motility and viability. The results were two-fold. First, they showed that pigeon egg yolk provided the best cryoprotective effects on the cryopreservation of bull sperm, compared with egg yolk of chicken, quail, goose or duck. Second, the best concentration of pigeon egg yolk in extender was 20% during cryopreservation among five concentrations of 5, 10, 20, 30 or 40%. The results suggest that pigeon egg yolk could be used as an alternative to chicken egg yolk in extender but requires further testing in fertility trials.  相似文献

Over the last century, several reproductive biotechnologies beyond the artificial incubation of eggs were developed to improve poultry breeding stocks and conserve their genetic diversity. These include artificial insemination (AI), semen storage, diploid primordial germ cell (PGC) methodologies, and gonad tissue storage and transplantation. Currently, AI is widely used for selection purposes in the poultry industry, in the breeding of turkeys and guinea fowl, and to solve fertility problems in duck interspecies crosses for the production of mule ducklings. The decline in some wild game species has also raised interest in reproductive technologies as a means of increasing the production of fertile eggs, and ultimately the number of birds that can be raised. AI requires viable sperm to be preserved in vitro for either short (fresh) or longer periods (chilling or freezing). Since spermatozoa are the most easily accessed sex cells, they are the cell type most commonly preserved by genetic resource banks. However, the cryopreservation of sperm only preserves half of the genome, and it cannot preserve the W chromosome. For avian species, the problem of preserving oocytes and zygotes may be solved via the cryopreservation and transplantation of PGCs and gonad tissue. The present review describes all these procedures and discusses how combining these different technologies allows poultry populations to be conserved and even rapidly reconstituted.  相似文献

This review describes the use of modern reproductive biotechnologies or assisted reproductive techniques (ART) including artificial insemination, embryo transfer/sexing, in vitro fertilization, gamete/embryo micromanipulation, semen sexing, genome resource banking, and somatic cell nuclear transfer (cloning) in conservation programs for endangered mammalian species. Such biotechnologies allow more offspring to be obtained from selected parents to ensure genetic diversity and may reduce the interval between generations. However, the application of reproductive biotechnologies for endangered free-living mammals is rarer than for endangered domestic breeds. Progress in ART for non-domestic species will continue at a slow pace due to limited resources, but also because the management and conservation of endangered species is biologically quite complex. In practice, current reproductive biotechnologies are species-specific or inefficient for many endangered animals because of insufficient knowledge on basic reproduction like estrous cycle, seasonality, structural anatomy, gamete physiology and site for semen deposition or embryo transfer of non-domestic species.  相似文献

Because reproductive studies and the application of assisted reproductive techniques are relevant issues for an endangered species such as Chinchila laniger, the availability of a source of viable spermatozoa becomes of utmost importance. In this paper, we evaluate several functional parameters (motility, viability, response to hypoosmotic swelling test and acrosomal integrity) of fresh or frozen-thawed spermatozoa. Electro-ejaculation trials (50-cyc/sec sinusoidal wave was applied for 5 of every 10 sec) were successful in all unanesthetized animals. After volume (108.3 +/- 12.0 microL, n = 15) and concentration (421.8 +/- 34.4 x 10(6) cells/mL, n = 15) measurements, the above mentioned parameters were determined. In frozen-thawed semen samples sperm motility, viability, hypoosmotic swelling test and acrosomal integrity were significantly lower than in fresh semen samples. The results clearly indicated that electro-ejaculation is a useful method for evaluating spermatozoa for genetic analysis or for used in Al in this species. In addition, the cryopreservation procedure in this study preserved adequate levels of functional sperm activity.  相似文献

Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infects numerous wild and domestic feline species and is closely related to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). Species-specific strains of FIV have been described for domestic cat (Felis catus), puma (Puma concolor), lion (Panthera leo), leopard (Panthera pardus), and Pallas' cat (Otocolobus manul). Here, we employ a three-antigen Western blot screening (domestic cat, puma, and lion FIV antigens) and PCR analysis to survey worldwide prevalence, distribution, and genomic differentiation of FIV based on 3,055 specimens from 35 Felidae and 3 Hyaenidae species. Although FIV infects a wide variety of host species, it is confirmed to be endemic in free-ranging populations of nine Felidae and one Hyaenidae species. These include the large African carnivores (lion, leopard, cheetah, and spotted hyena), where FIV is widely distributed in multiple populations; most of the South American felids (puma, jaguar, ocelot, margay, Geoffroy's cat, and tigrina), which maintain a lower FIV-positive level throughout their range; and two Asian species, the Pallas' cat, which has a species-specific strain of FIV, and the leopard cat, which has a domestic cat FIV strain in one population. Phylogenetic analysis of FIV proviral sequence demonstrates that most species for which FIV is endemic harbor monophyletic, genetically distinct species-specific FIV strains, suggesting that FIV transfer between cat species has occurred in the past but is quite infrequent today.  相似文献

Appreciable progress has been made in the development of assisted reproductive technology (ART) for creating in vitro embryos in cats. Moreover, the extent of advancement in the last decade has been similar, albeit of more modest magnitude, to that seen in some other domestic and laboratory species, particularly when the disparities in financial, and, hence, scientific, resources are considered. The recent progress in domestic felid ART has made it possible to envisage their potential role in supporting the conservation of endangered felid species, which, in reality, is a multifarious process requiring wide-ranging, yet coordinated approaches. The prospect of incorporating ART into that intricate domain, with limited exceptions, remains a long-term, but highly motivating objective. Meanwhile, the straightforward accessibility and abundant supply of domestic cat gametes from local veterinary clinics provides a valuable and practical source of material for further research on the basic aspects of in vitro oocyte maturation, fertilization and early embryo development. Furthermore, extrapolating the domestic biotechniques to non-domestic felids has produced encouraging results in some species.  相似文献

Artificial insemination (AI) and semen freezing have become services available to dog owners worldwide, and the demand for services to freeze semen is increasing. In other canids such as the fox, the fur industry utilizes fresh or frozen semen to artificially inseminate vixens to produce pelts. Clearly, AI facilitates the use of a male to sire several females by diluting the ejaculate, increases breeding hygiene, and allows crossing between species with slightly different breeding seasons. The African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) is currently considered by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) as one of most endangered canids. In captive populations of African wild dogs, semen has been frozen with encouraging results, using a standard cryopreservation protocol for domestic dogs, but successful AI has not been reported. In wolves, there is one report regarding the live birth of an offspring after intravaginal AI of a deslorelin-induced estrous female. In 2005, three Mexican gray wolf females were artificially bred by intrauterine insemination with freshly collected semen from unrelated males, and all females whelped. Artificial insemination may be vaginal, intrauterine or intratubal, and the semen may be fresh, fresh and chilled (diluted), or frozen-thawed, and the source of semen may be epididymal or ejaculated. In the domestic dog, the results are good to excellent for AI with all three types of processed semen when the source is ejaculated semen, whereas epididymal sperm still yields poorer results. Species differences in female physiology, as well as differences in the cryotolerance of the sperm from various canid species, warrant further research and development.  相似文献

Wild felids and canids are usually the main predators in the food chains where they dwell and are almost invisible to behavior and ecology researchers. Due to their grooming behavior, they tend to swallow shed hair, which shows up in the feces. DNA found in hair shafts can be used in molecular studies that can unravel, for instance, genetic variability, reproductive mode and family structure, and in some species, it is even possible to estimate migration and dispersion rates in given populations. First, however, DNA must be extracted from hair. We extracted successfully and dependably hair shaft DNA from eight wild Brazilian felids, ocelot, margay, oncilla, Geoffroy's cat, pampas cat, jaguarundi, puma, and jaguar, as well as the domestic cat and from three wild Brazilian canids, maned wolf, crab-eating fox, and hoary fox, as well as the domestic dog. Hair samples came mostly from feces collected at the S?o Paulo Zoo and were also gathered from non-sedated pet or from recently dead wild animals and were also collected from museum specimens. Fractions of hair samples were stained before DNA extraction, while most samples were not. Our extraction protocol is based on a feather DNA extraction technique, based in the phenol:chloroform:isoamyl alcohol general method, with proteinase K as digestive enzyme.  相似文献

Laparoscopic artificial insemination has an important role in felid conservation but it is costly and includes surgical risk. Therefore, radiographic contrast medium combined with non-surgical transcervical AI to verify intrauterine gamete placement could be a viable alternative. Gamete-rescued fresh and frozen-thawed sperm were extended with one of two commercial contrast media (nonionic and ionic), with osmolarity adjusted to 320-330 mOsm, or feline optimized culture medium (control). Percent motility, forward progression status, and acrosomal integrity were recorded every 30 min for 4 h. Sperm penetration abilities were assessed by coincubating treated sperm with conspecific in vitro matured oocytes for 18 to 20 h, and presumptive zygotes and embryos were fixed and stained to determine sperm penetration and fertilization rate. There was reduced motility and acrosomal integrity in frozen-thawed versus fresh sperm (P < 0.05). Neither radiographic contrast medium induced adverse effects on fresh sperm motility relative to control medium (P > 0.05), but motility of frozen-thawed sperm decreased when treated with nonionic radiographic contrast medium compared to control medium (P < 0.05). There were no differences in acrosomal integrity between radiographic contrast and control media in fresh (P > 0.05) or frozen sperm (P > 0.05). Neither radiographic contrast media decreased the numbers of morphologically normal sperm (P > 0.05) or reduced the ability of domestic cat sperm to penetrate (P > 0.05) or fertilize (P > 0.05) conspecific oocytes. Ionic radiographic contrast medium can be added to fresh or frozen-thawed domestic cat sperm with no adverse effect on motility, morphology, acrosomal integrity or oocyte penetration rates, and thus may be used to facilitate further development of transcervical AI procedures.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Except for lions and cheetahs, members of family Felidaeexhibit spatially and temporally dispersed social systems. However,this solitary existence does not preclude possession of a richrepertoire of communication signals. While patterns of communicationhave been examined in a number of the larger cats (e.g., lions,cheetahs, tigers), those of the smaller cats (<20 kg) remainvirtually unstudied. The purpose of this study was to examinebehavior in the smaller members of the Family Felidae to determinethe level of behavioral uniformity within the family and toascertain whether systematic behavioral observations could beused as an effective bioassay to monitor reproduction. A comparativeexamination of the occurrence and rate of scent marking, socialbehavior (especially behaviors associated with copulation),and other reproductive parameters was made in 20 species ofcaptive, small felids. In general, small felids exhibited remarkableuniformity in their behavioral repertoire, both with respectto scent-marking and social behaviors. While the frequency ofsocial behaviors differed among species, their appearance andgeneral order of occurrence was similar. This was especiallyapparent with regard to the copulatory sequence. Detectablebehavioral changes occurred in association with reproduction,supporting the concept of using systematic behavioral observationsas a viable, non-invasive assay for monitoring reproductiveactivity. Reproductively active felids scent marked more frequentlythan reproductively inactive cats. However, no single scent-markingbehavior was a good indicator of reproductive activity. Rather,the relative change in rates of behaviors over time was a betterindicator of reproduction. As with scent-marking behaviors,a change in the relative rates of some social behaviors wasthe most reliable indicator of reproductive activity. Comparativebehavioral data also show promise for understanding the phylogeneticrelationships of three proposed lineages within the family Felidae(Panthera, ocelot, and domestic cat).  相似文献

During the last half of the 20th century there have been considerable advancements in mammalian reproductive technologies, including in vitro production of pre-implantation embryos and embryo sexing, and even cloning in some species. However, in most cases, management of non-cryopreserved reproductive cells (i.e., spermatozoa or oocytes) and tissues (i.e., testicular tissue or ovarian tissue) is problematic due to difficulties in donor-recipient synchronization and the potential for transmission of infectious pathogens, which cumulatively limits widespread application of these techniques. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the development of optimum cryopreservation methods for reproductive cells and tissues from many species. Today frozen-thawed spermatozoa and embryos have become an integral component of animal agriculture, laboratory animal genome banking, and human sperm banking and infertility programs. However, although widely implemented, the protocols currently used to cryopreserve bull sperm, for example, are still suboptimal, and cannot readily be extrapolated to other species' sperm. Similarly, embryo-freezing protocols successfully used for mouse and cattle have yielded little success when applied to some other species' embryos, or to a related cell type, oocytes. To date, with the exception of mouse oocytes, almost all mammalian species' oocytes studied have proven very difficult to successfully cryopreserve. Currently, there is a growing interest to understand the underlying cryobiological fundamentals responsible for these low survival rates in an effort to develop better cryopreservation methods for oocytes. Additionally, there is growing interest in developing technologies for the optimal isolation and cryopreservation of the earliest stage of male (spermatogonia, spermatids) and female (primordial follicle) germ cells, with subsequent maturation to the desired stage in vitro. Female gamete maturation, fertilization, and embryo development entirely under in vitro conditions from primordial follicles has been achieved in mice, however techniques for this and other species are still very early in their development. Furthermore, with the recent advances made in intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and gamete isolation and maturation, close attention has been given to cryopreservation of gametes in the form of gonadal tissue (i.e., testicular tissue and ovarian tissue) containing various developmental stages of male (spermatogonia, spermatids, and spermatozoa) and female (primordial, secondary) germ lines.  相似文献

The objective was to compare pregnancy rates in domestic cats using fresh semen for intravaginal artificial insemination (IVI), either at the time of hCG treatment for induction of ovulation, or 28 h later, and to compare pregnancy rates following IVI or transcervical intrauterine insemination (IUI) of frozen-thawed semen. Eighteen queens were inseminated during 39 estrus cycles. Fresh semen with 13.5+/-5.4 x 10(6) sperm (range, 6.8-22 x 10(6)) collected by electroejaculation from four male cats was used in Experiment 1, and cryopreserved semen (20 x 10(6) sperm, with 70+/-5% post-thaw motility) from one male cat was used in Experiment 2. Serum concentrations of estradiol-17beta and progesterone were determined in most queens on the day of AI and again 30-40 days later. Treatment with 100 IU of hCG 3 days after the onset of estrus induced ovulation in 95% of treated queens. Pregnancy rates to IVI with fresh semen at the time of hCG administration versus 28 h later were not different (P=0.58); overall 33% (5/15) of the queens became pregnant. For frozen-thawed semen, AI was consistently done 28h after hCG administration; IUI and IVI resulted in pregnancy rates of 41.7% (5/12), whereas no queen (0/12) became pregnant by IVI (P=0.0083). In conclusion, an acceptable pregnancy rate was obtained with frozen-thawed semen in the domestic cat by non-surgical transcervical IUI; this method might also be useful in other small felids.  相似文献
