鱼类能否通过水流速度障碍直接影响过鱼设施的过鱼效果。利用计算机技术,综合水力因素、鱼类行为、地理特征及环境因子,展开鱼类通过水流速度障碍的模拟,有助于过鱼设施的优化设计。以国外涵洞式鱼道模拟软件Fish Xing为切入点,结合主要模块和关键因子,对我国特有鱼类鲢幼鱼进行模拟,得到鲢通过不同水流速度障碍的成功率;对比鲢在物理模型中的游泳表现,从模型主要模块和影响鱼类游泳表现的关键因子角度,分析影响鱼类通过水流速度障碍模拟的因素。结果表明,Fish Xing软件不能精确模拟鲢通过水流速度障碍的表现。分析表明,该软件在地理要素、管道特征和水力信息等参数方面具备独特的优势,但对我国鱼类有一定局限性,主要体现在鱼类的生物学信息如鱼类游泳特征等方面存在不足;进行鱼过障碍的模拟需要深入研究目标鱼类的生理特征、游泳能力及其与水力环境因子的响应关系。  相似文献

研究以具有下行洄游需求的鲢(Hypophthalmichthys molitrix)、鳙(Aristichthys nobilis)幼鱼为实验对象, 分别在2种不同流态加速流(Ⅰ: 22—55 cm/s, Ⅱ: 25—60 cm/s)中进行下行实验, 对实验鱼在2种加速流中的游泳行为(下行率、下行方式及各区域游泳时间)进行定量分析并利用游泳停留时间百分比Ft衡量其偏好水流速度。结果显示: 加速流下鲢、鳙均表现出了直接下行与非直接下行两种行为。其中加速流Ⅰ中鲢、鳙直接下行率分别为35.71%、30.00%, Ⅱ中分别为45.83%、59.09%。非直接下行的鲢在2种加速流中小于30 cm/s流速区域的停留时间显著高于其他区域(P<0.05), 即鲢在实验条件下的偏好水流速度范围为小于30 cm/s; 非直接下行的鳙在加速流Ⅰ中小于30 cm/s及50—55 cm/s流速区域的停留时间显著高于其他区域(P<0.05), Ⅱ中小于30 cm/s流速区域的停留时间显著高于其他区域(P<0.05), 即鳙本实验条件下偏好水流速度范围为小于30 cm/s。将2种加速流流速相同区域合并分析发现鲢、鳙在小于30 cm/s和50—55 cm/s流速区域的停留时间存在显著性差异(P<0.05), 中间及高流速区域无明显性差异(P>0.1)。研究表明: 加速流对鲢、鳙下行游泳行为产生了影响且2种鱼在下行通过方式和偏好流速选择上存在一定的种间差异性。  相似文献

It is thought that grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) eggs must remain suspended in the water column in order to hatch successfully. Using sand, the effects of varying sediment levels on grass carp eggs were tested at different developmental states and temperatures. Survival was high (15–35%, depending on temperature and trial) in the unburied treatment where eggs rested on a sand bed but were not covered by sediment. Survival was lower in the partial burial (5–10%) and very low (0–4%) in the full burial treatment. In all treatments, delayed hatching (organisms remaining in membranes past the stage of hatching competence) was noted. Deformities such as missing heads and pericardial edema occurred at high rates in the partial and full burials. Eggs that come in contact with the benthos and are resuspended in the water column should be considered in embryonic drift models.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that currents, waves, and sediment grain size affect the dispersal of seeds and seedlings of the submersed angiosperms Ruppia maritima, Potamogeton perfoliatus and Stuckenia pectinata. Seed settling velocities and initiation of motion of seeds and seedlings and distance transported were quantified on four sediment types under a range of currents and waves in a flume. The rapid settling velocities of R. maritima and S. pectinata seeds and the increased settling velocity of P. perfoliatus in currents above 8 cm/second suggest that primary dispersal of these species is localized to the general area colonized by their parents. Once settled within a bed, seeds are exposed to weak currents and waves, and are likely to be subject to sediment deposition which may further limit dispersal. In contrast, in restoration projects, the absence of vegetation is likely to make seeds more vulnerable to grazing and transport, and may contribute to the lack of plant establishment. If seeds germinate without being buried, they are susceptible to secondary dispersal at relatively low current velocities and small wave heights due to the drag exerted on the cotyledon. Sand grains tend to stick to the seed coat and rootlet of P. perfoliatus seedlings, perhaps a mechanism to reduce the chances of being displaced following germination. These data reveal the close links between sediment, water flow, and submersed angiosperm seedling establishment; these parameters should be considered when using seeds for restoration of submersed angiosperms.  相似文献

在水温(18±1)℃的条件下,以全长(11.70±0.57)cm的鲢(Hypophthalmichthys molitrix)幼鱼为研究对象,测定其不同流速(16.5、22.0、27.5、33.0、38.5、44.0、49.5和55.0 cm/s)下的持续游泳时间、调头百分比和暴发-滑行运动数据。结果表明,鲢的平均持续游泳时间先随流速的增加而减小,后随流速的增加而增加。当流速33.0 cm/s时,平均持续时间最短为118.6min,其中各组试验鱼的最大可持续游泳时间均可达到200min。调头百分比随流速的增加迅速减小,当流速≥44.0 cm/s时,不再出现调头行为。暴发-滑行游泳的平均暴发时间随流速的增加呈上升趋势(y=0.03x+2.64,R2=0.92,P<0.05)。平均对地暴发距离均在30-45 cm,没有显著性差异(P>0.05),平均绝对暴发距离存在极显著性差异,且随流速的增加而增加(y=4.98x-5.63,R2=0.98,P<0.001)。平均对地暴发速度没有显著性差异(平均对地平均速度和最大速度分别在9-12 cm/s、12-16 cm/s,P>0.05)。平均绝对暴发速度与水流速度之间存在线性正相关关系(平均绝对平均暴发速度:y=0.98x+10.74,R2=1.00,P<0.001;平均绝对最大暴发速度:y=1.02x+13.75,R2=0.99,P<0.001)。研究表明鲢在不同的流速下采取的暴发-滑行行为策略不同。  相似文献

Sturgeon use benthic habitats in and adjacent to main channels where environmental conditions can include bedload sediment transport and high near‐bed flow velocities. Bed velocity measurements obtained with acoustic Doppler instruments provide a means to assess the concentration and velocity of sediment moving near the streambed, and are thus indicative of the bedload sediment transport rate, the near‐bed flow velocity, and the stability of the substrate. Acoustic assessments of benthic conditions in the Missouri River were conducted at scales ranging from the stream reach to individual bedforms. Reach‐scale results show that spatially‐averaged bed velocities in excess of 0.5 m s−1 frequently occur in the navigation channel. At the local scale, bed velocities are highest near bedform crests, and lowest in the troughs. Low‐velocity zones can persist in areas with extremely high mean bed velocities. Use of these low‐velocity zones may allow sturgeon to make use of portions of the channel where the average conditions near the bed are severe. To obtain bed velocity measurements of the highest possible quality, it is necessary to extract bottom‐track and GPS velocity information from the raw ADCP data files on a ping‐by‐ping basis. However, bed velocity measured from a point can also be estimated using a simplified method that is more easily implemented in the context of routine monitoring. The method requires only the transect distance and direction data displayed in standard ADCP data‐logging software. Bed velocity estimates obtained using this method are usually within 5–10% of estimates obtained from ping‐by‐ping processing.  相似文献

Rheotaxis is a ubiquitous phenomenon among aquatic animals and thought to be an adaptation to maintain populations in flowing waters. While many estuarine copepods can retain their populations in estuaries with net seaward flow, rheotaxis of individual copepods has not been reported before. In this study, the behavior of a calanoid copepod Pseudodiaptomus annandalei in flow was examined in a recirculating laboratory flume. This estuarine copepod displayed different responses to ambient flow fields while swimming in the water column or attaching to the flume bed (walls). Copepods in the water column showed vigorous countercurrent swimming by occasional bounding when flow velocity was increased up to 2.1 cm s?1, but none of the individuals in the water column were retained in the flume when flow speeds were higher than 4 cm s?1. This indicates P. annandalei profits little from rheotaxis to withstand flow when they were swimming in the water column. Instead, more individuals attempted sinking downwards to the slow flow region near the flume bed (walls) and showed active substrate attachment to avoid being flushed out by the high-velocity channel flow. The results suggest that P. annandalei benefits from rheotaxis and association with the substrate which allows them to hold position well at ambient flow velocities up to 3 cm s?1. These adaptive responses might be important for population maintenance.  相似文献

Location and timing of Asian carp spawning in the Lower Missouri River   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We sampled for eggs of Asian carps, (bighead carp Hypophthalmichthys nobilis, silver carp H. molitrix, and grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella) in 12 sites on the Lower Missouri River and in six tributaries from the months of May through July 2005 and May through June 2006 to examine the spatial and temporal dynamics of spawning activity. We categorized eggs into thirty developmental stages, but usually they could not be identified to species. We estimated spawning times and locations based on developmental stage, temperature dependent rate of development and water velocity. Spawning rate was higher in the daytime between 05:00 and 21:00 h than at night. Spawning was not limited to a few sites, as has been reported for the Yangtze River, where these fishes are native, but more eggs were spawned in areas of high sinuosity. We employ a sediment transport model to estimate vertical egg concentration profiles and total egg fluxes during spawning periods on the Missouri River. We did not identify substantial spawning activity within tributaries or at tributary confluences examined in this study.  相似文献

Although the movement of invasive bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) and silver carp (H. molitrix) in the Upper Mississippi River system is dependent on their ability to swim through its numerous lock‐and‐dams, the swimming performance of adults of these species is at present unknown. Using a large (2,935‐L) mobile swim tunnel, the swimming performance of adult bighead and adult silver carp was quantified at water velocities that challenged them to exhibit either prolonged and/or burst swimming (76–244 cm/s) with fatigue times of less than 10 min. Simple log‐linear models best described the relative swim speed to fatigue relationships for both species. Under these conditions, the swimming performances of adult bighead and silver carp were similar to several species of adult fishes native to the Mississippi River system, but relatively low (<3 total body lengths per second, TL/s) compared to previously studied juveniles and sub‐adult bigheaded carps (3–15 TL/s). The decline in endurance with water velocity was three times greater in bighead carp (slope = ?2.98) than in silver carp (slope = ?1.01) and the predictive ability of the bighead model was appreciably better than the silver carp model. The differences in adult swimming performance between the two species were coincident with behavioral differences (e.g. breaching in silver carp but not in bighead carp). The swimming performance data of adult bighead and silver carp can now be used to evaluate whether their passage through manmade river structures including the gates of lock‐and‐dams in the Upper Mississippi River might be reduced.  相似文献

1. The hydraulic and geomorphic characteristics of stream patches are often associated with distinctive assemblages or densities of stream invertebrates, and it is routinely presumed that these patterns reflect primarily species‐specific habitat requirements. An alternative hypothesis is that such patterns may be influenced by constraints on movement, such as the results of departure and settlement processes. We describe a manipulative experiment that examined how the hydraulic environments created by topographic bedforms influenced the drift behaviour and potential settlement sites for two species of mayfly (Baetis rhodani and Ecdyonurus torrentis). These species are common in the drift and often co‐occur in streams, but differ in their small‐scale distribution patterns, body shape and movement behaviour. 2. Flume experiments were carried out to determine how the hydraulic environments conditioned by a step bedform influence the behaviour of mayflies in the drift (swimming, posturing, tumbling), and the consequences of those behaviours (drift distance and time), compared to drift over a plane bed. The ramped step in the flume mimicked step bedforms that are common in coarse‐grained, high‐gradient streams. In contrast to the plane bed, a zone of recirculating flow was created downstream of the step, above which flow was faster and more turbulent. Uniform flows are used in most flume studies of drift; our approach is novel in recreating a complex hydraulic environment characteristic of stream channels. 3. Both species had some behavioural control over drift, and drift distances and times were shorter for live larvae than for dead larvae over the plane bed. The step had no impact on drift time or distance for live Baetis, but dead larvae were trapped in the flow separation eddy and drift time increased accordingly. Some Ecdyonurus also became trapped in the eddy, but live larvae drifted farther than dead larvae, and farther over the step than the plane bed. 4. Whilst in the drift, larvae altered their behaviour according to the ambient hydraulic environment, but in a species‐specific manner. Over the plane bed, Baetis had occasional swimming bursts, but primarily postured (maintained a stable body orientation), whereas Ecdyonurus spent roughly equal time posturing and swimming. In the more turbulent flows generated by the step, Baetis spent proportionately more time swimming, whereas Ecdyonurus spent more time posturing and often tumbling as body orientation became unstable. 5. In a high‐gradient stream, Baetis was more abundant close to steps than in plane bed patches with less complex flow, whereas the opposite pattern held for Ecdyonurus. Thus, the small‐scale distribution patterns of these species within streams correspond to their drift behaviours and ability to access various hydraulic patch types in our flume. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that constraints on movement and settlement may be important driver of distribution patterns within streams.  相似文献

The transfer of Cryptosporidium oocysts from the surface water to the sediment beds of streams and rivers influences their migration in surface waters. We used controlled laboratory flume experiments to investigate the deposition of suspended Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in streambeds. The experimental results demonstrate that hydrodynamic interactions between an overlying flow and a sediment bed cause oocysts to accumulate in the sediments and reduce their concentrations in the surface water. The association of C. parvum with other suspended sediments increased both the oocysts' effective settling velocity and the rate at which oocysts were transferred to the sediment bed. A model for the stream-subsurface exchange of colloidal particles, including physical transport and physicochemical interactions with sediment grains, accurately represented the deposition of both free C. parvum oocysts and oocysts that were attached to suspended sediments. We believe that these pathogen-sediment interactions play an important role in regulating the concentrations of Cryptosporidium in streams and rivers and should be taken into consideration when predicting the fate of pathogens in the environment.  相似文献

Little is known about the reproductive biology of the exotic bighead carp Hypophthalmichthys nobilis and silver carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix in the Missouri River. In order to fill this gap in understanding, herein is described the reproductive condition of these Asian carps. Evidence is presented which indicates that bighead and silver carp in the Missouri River have a protracted spawning period that extends from early spring through fall and some individual bighead and silver carp are spawning multiple times during a reproductive season. Although bighead and silver carps are successfully maturing and spawning in the Missouri River some reproductive abnormalities such as intersex, atresia, and sterility were observed. Knowledge of the reproductive activity of these invasive carps may be useful to resource managers tasked with their control. Furthermore, the reproductive abnormalities observed should be considered when evaluating the environmental condition of the Missouri River relative to supporting a healthy fish fauna.  相似文献

Benthic suspension feeders are important components of aquatic ecosystems, often dominating the use of space and influencing patterns of material cycling between the water column and benthos. Biomechanical theory predicts that feeding by these consumers is governed by the flux (i.e., product of food concentration and velocity) of particulate material to their feeding appendages. We performed a laboratory flume experiment to test how feeding by larval black flies (Simulium vittatum Zett.) responds to independent manipulations of flow and food concentration. We quantified larval body posture, flick rate of the labral fans, and ingestion rate as a function of two concentrations of a baker's yeast/chalk suspension (0.96 and 4.44 mg l-1) and five water velocities (20, 30, 45, 60, and 90 cm s-1). Using analysis of covariance, we found that both flick rate and ingestion rate increased in a decelerating manner with increasing velocity, while fan height decreased linearly with increasing velocity. In contrast, food concentration had no effect on any aspect of feeding behavior. Thus, although both velocity and food concentration contribute to particle flux, our results indicate that the two were not substitutable under the range of conditions tested here.  相似文献

1. There is much concern that filter‐feeding Asian carp will invade the Laurentian Great Lakes and deplete crucial plankton resources. We developed bioenergetic models, using parameters from Asian carp and other fish species, to explore the possibility that planktonic food resources are insufficient to support the growth of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and bighead carp (H. nobilis) in the Great Lakes. 2. The models estimated basic metabolic requirements of silver and bighead carp under various body sizes, swimming speeds and reproductive stages. These requirements were then related to planktonic food resources and environmental temperature to predict when and where silver and bighead carp may survive in the Great Lakes, and how far they may travel. 3. Parameter values for respiration functions were derived experimentally in a coordinated study of silver and bighead carp, while consumption parameters were obtained from the literature on silver carp. Other model parameters lacking for Asian carp, such as those for egestion and excretion, were obtained from the literature on other fish species. 4. We found that full‐sized bighead carp required 61.0 kJ d?1 just to maintain their body mass at 20 °C, approximately equivalent to feeding in a region with 255 μg L?1 macrozooplankton (dry) or 10.43 μg L?1 chlorophyll a. Silver carp energy requirements were slightly higher. 5. When applied to various habitats in the Great Lakes, our results suggest that silver and bighead carp will be unable to colonise most open‐water regions because of limited plankton availability. However, in some circumstances, carp metabolism at lower temperatures may be low enough to permit positive growth even at very low rations. Positive growth is even more likely in productive embayments and wetlands, and the modelled swimming costs in some of these habitats suggest that carp could travel >1 km d?1 without losing biomass. 6. The simulation (and firmly hypothetical) results from this modelling study suggest when and where Asian carp could become established in the Great Lakes. Given the potential consequences to Great Lakes ecosystems if these filter feeders do prove capable of establishing reproducing populations, efforts to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes must not be lessened. However, we do encourage the use of bioenergetic modelling in a holistic approach to assessing the risk of Asian carp invasion in the Great Lakes region.  相似文献

Measurements of sedimentation were combined with water samples to calculate settling velocity of suspended particulate matter (SPM) in lakes. The study sites were open water stations and enclosures in Lake Erken (Sweden) and Lake Balaton (Hungary). Settling velocities were found to vary considerably both inside and outside the enclosures. Within sites, the differences between 25th and 75th percentiles of measured settling velocities of SPM were two‐ or three‐fold. Median settling velocities of SPM ranged from around 0.5 m/d in the enclosures of Lake Erken to more than 8 m/d in the open water of Lake Balaton. Special relevance was attributed to flocculation, which is known to be affected by, e.g., SPM concentration and turbulence. Even though not directly measured, the less turbulent environment inside the enclosures was suggested to explain the low settling velocity compared to the open water environment. Settling velocity apparently correlated with water current speed (r2 = 0.66; n = 12). Stepwise multiple linear regressions were used to relate the variability in settling velocity of SPM to the variability of possible controlling factors in a number of data subsets. In most cases, one variable describing the total amount of settling material (e.g., SPM) and one variable reflecting the composition of settling material (e.g., total phosphorus) were chosen. The use of suspended solids concentration to predict settling velocity in mass balance models was discussed. It was found that the mean slope between SPM and vSPM was close to 0.1 (m4d–1 g–1). Mean settling velocity of granular sludge in full-scale UASB (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket) and EGSB (expanded granular sludge bed) reactors was evaluated by settling column tests, and a settling velocity model based on the experimental results and available literature data was developed. It is concluded that the settling velocity should be calculated by the Allen formula, because the settling process of the granules is in the category of intermediate flow regime rather than in the laminar flow one. The comparison between calculated and measured values of the settling velocity shows an excellent agreement, with an average relative error of 4.04%. A simple but reliable mathematical method to determine the settling velocity is therefore proposed.  相似文献

Cohesive sediment deposits in the Three Gorges Reservoir, China, were used to investigate physical and geochemical properties, biofilm mass, and erosion and deposition characteristics. Biofilm cultivation was performed in a recirculating flume for three different periods (5, 10 and 15 days) under ambient temperature and with sufficient nutrients supply. Three groups of size-fractionated sediment were sequentially used, including 0–0.02 mm, 0.02–0.05 mm and 0.05–0.10 mm. Desired conditions for erosion and deposition were designed by managing high bed shear stress at the narrow part of upstream flume and low shear stress at the wide part of downstream flume. Biostabilization and transport characteristics of the biofilm coated sediment (bio-sediment) were strongly influenced by the cultivation period, and the results were compared with clean sediment. The bio-sediment was more resistant to erosion, and the mean shear stress was increased by factors of 2.65, 2.73 and 5.01 for sediment with 5, 10 and 15 days of biofilm growth compared with clean sediment, resulting in less sediment being eroded from the bed. Simultaneously, the settling velocity was smaller for bio-sediment due to higher organic content and porosity (i.e., lower density). Additionally, there was a smaller probability of deposition for sediment with a longer cultivation period after erosion, resulting in more retention time in aquatic systems. These results will benefit water management in natural rivers.  相似文献
