The aim of this study was to investigate the etiological characteristics of Chlamydia trachomatis conjunctivitis among resident students at primary schools in the Qinghai Tibetan area in order to understand the distribution of C. trachomatis and other pathogenic microorganisms, to detect the isolation rate of infectious pathogens, and to provide an evidence for further targeted efforts in the prevent of sporadic trachoma efforts. From two primary schools in Qinghai Province, ocular samples from 35 students who were clinically diagnosed as trachoma cases and 60 normal controls were obtained by swabbing their upper eyelids and lower conjunctival sacs. Samples were preserved at 4°C and airlifted to Beijing Tongren Hospital within 24 h. Real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) was used to screen for C. trachomatis, and nested PCR was used to amplify a fragment of the omp A gene for serotype confirmation. Bacterial cultivation and sensitivity tests were conducted based on the 2015 version of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. Adenovirus, herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, and Epstein-Barr virus were screened by RT-PCR. Among the 35 students with trachoma, 8 came from the Jianshetang Primary School and 27 came from the Central Primary School. Two novel C. trachomatis B serotypes(Gen Bank accession numbers KU737520 and KU737521) were detected based on a sequence analysis of the omp A gene. Single C. trachomatis infections accounted for 42.86%(9/21) of the cases, and infections with multiple bacteria, particularly Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pneumoniae, accounted for the remaining 57.14%(12/21). Of the 14 C. trachomatis-negative samples, one was positive for adenoviral infection(serotype D) and 13 were positive for bacterial infections(H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, S. pneumoniae, S. aureus, streptococci other than S. pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Corynebacterium, and Arthrobacterium). In addition to C. trachomatis, the other bacteria and virus that were detected in the boarding students of primary schools in the Qinghai Tibetan area should be emphasized in trachoma prevention and control.  相似文献

To study the molecular characteristics of Chlamydia trachomatis, the major outer membrane protein gene(omp A) of C. trachomatis from primary school students with trachoma residing in the Qinghai Tibetan area was sequenced and compared with the same serotype in Gen Bank. In Jianshetang Primary School and Galeng Central Primary School in the Galeng Tibetan Township of Qinghai Haidong Sala Autonomous County, scraped samples were collected from the upper tarsal conjunctiva and lower conjunctival sac of both eyes of 45 students with trachoma, stored at 4°C, and transported to Beijing Tongren Hospital by air within 24 h. The samples were screened for C. trachomatis by real-time PCR. The omp A gene from the C. trachomatis-positive samples was amplified by nested PCR. The serotype was confirmed by National Center for Biotechnology Information(NCBI) BLAST search and homology analysis. The entire omp A gene sequence was compared with the corresponding gene sequences of serotype B strains available in Gen Bank. Of the 45 students aged 6–13 years with trachoma, 26 C. trachomatis-positive students were identified by the initial real-time PCR screening(average age,(9.09±1.63) years; sex ratio, 1.0), accounting for 57.78%(26/45). The cycle threshold values for real-time PCR were 16.79–37.77. Half(13/26) of C. trachomatis-positive students had a bacterial copy number of 105. The compliance rate of the omp A gene sequences with the C. trachomatis serotype B strains in Gen Bank was up to 99%. Two novel genetic mutations were found when the omp A gene was compared with those of the 11 serotype B strains in Gen Bank. The two non-synonymous mutations were located at(i) position 271 in the second constant domain, an adenine(A) to guanine(G) substitution(ACT?GCT), changing the amino acid at position 91 from threonine to alanine(Thr?Ala) in all 26 strains; and(ii) position 887 in the fourth variable domain, a cytosine(C) to thymine(T) substitution(GCA?GTA), changing the amino acid at residue 296 from alanine to valine(Ala?Val) in four of the 26 strains. Six mutations were identified relative to ATCC VR-573. The strains could be divided into two gene clusters according to the mutation at nucleotide position 887: CQZ-1(China Qinghai Tibetan-1) and CQZ-2(China Qinghai Tibetan-2). We thus detected two novel serotype B mutant strains of C. trachomatis among study subjects with trachoma.  相似文献

The Western European population of wild boar (Sus scrofa) has increased its distribution over the past several decades, and some populations have colonized areas strongly influenced by human activity. Wild boars are known carriers of antibiotic-resistant bacteria acquired from the environment, and urban populations of wild boars may be more exposed than their rural counterparts. In this work, we compared the frequency of antibiotic resistance in indicator bacteria (Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium) isolated from urban wild boars with that from rural wild boars in NE Spain. We further assessed whether bacterial isolates from the urban wild boars had a higher probability of showing antibiotic resistance when their host was highly associated to urban features. Seventy-two and 100 bacterial isolates from urban and rural habitat, respectively, were screened for antibiotic resistance against a set of antibiotics (13 per bacterial species). We found a significantly higher frequency of E. faecium showing resistance to tetracycline (70.0% vs 36.4%) and high-level resistance to streptomycin (30.0% vs 4.5%) in urban wild boars compared to rural wild boars (p?<?0.05). E. faecalis was more frequently resistant to trimethoprim in urban than rural wild boars (33.3% vs 0.0%, p?<?0.05). In isolates from urban origin, 55.6% of the likelihood of detecting antibiotic resistance depended only on the bacterial species, being more likely in the enterococci than in E. coli. These results suggest that urban wild boars may be more exposed to certain antibiotic-resistant bacteria or antibiotic resistance genes that they may acquire from the urban environment, although implications are uncertain.  相似文献

Tick-borne rickettsiosis is an important emerging disease in Panama; to date, there have been 12 confirmed cases, including eight fatalities. To evaluate the distribution of rickettsiae in Panamanian ticks, we collected questing and on-host ticks in urban and rural towns in elevations varying between 0 and 2300 m. A total of 63 sites (13 urban and 50 rural towns) were used to develop models of spatial distributions. We found the following tick species: Rhipicephalus sanguineus s.l. (present in 54 of 63 towns and cities), Amblyomma mixtum (45/63), Dermacentor nitens (40/63), A. ovale (37/63), Rhipicephalus microplus (33/63), A. oblongoguttatum (33/63), Ixodes affinis (3/63), and Ixodes boliviensis (2/63). Rhipicephalus sanguineus s.l. was present in urban and rural towns, and other species were present only in rural towns. DNA was extracted from 408 R. sanguineus s.l., 387 A. mixtum, 103 A. ovale, and 11 A. oblongoguttatum and later tested for rickettsiae genes using PCR. Rickettsia DNA was detected in ticks from 21 of 63 localities. Rickettsia rickettsii was detected in five A. mixtum (1.29%), and Candidatus “Rickettsia amblyommii” was found in 138 A. mixtum (35%), 14 R. sanguineus (3.4%), and one A. ovale (0.9%). These results suggest that much of rural Panama is suitable for the expansion of tick populations and could favor the appearance of new tick-borne rickettsiosis outbreaks.  相似文献

Length–weight relationships (LWRs) of three Chinese endemic fish species (Gymnocypris eckloni eckloni Herzenstein, 1891, Platypharodon extremus Herzenstein, 1891 and Triplophysa pseudoscleroptera (Zhu & Wu, 1981)) were analyzed, collecting from the upper Yellow River (Xunhua and Guide Counties, Qinghai Province). Totally 347 specimens monthly collected by gill nets with 40 mm mesh size and traps with 5 m length from August to October 2014, were used to estimate the relationship parameters. The allometric factor b values ranged from 2.96 in T. pseudoscleroptera to 3.33 in G. eckloni eckloni. The condition factor a values varies between 0.0063 and 0.0175 in three species. Three WLRs of fishes distributed in the upper Yellow River were firstly reported and will fill in some of the empty spaces on endemic species in the Fishbase.  相似文献

Haemaphysalis qinghaiensis as an endemic species in China mainly infests domestic animals and causes great harm to animals and humans in Northwestern plateau. However, there is no information about genetic diversity within the recently established populations of this tick species. Therefore, the present study analyzed the fragments of mitochondrial 16S rDNA, COI and the nuclear gene ITS1 of 56 H. qinghaiensis ticks across four regions of China which are main endemic areas of this species. Analysis showed 98.1–100% (16S rDNA), 97.9–100% (COI), 99.7–100% (ITS1) identity within individuals. For these sequences, 9, 15 and 8 haplotypes were found for 16S rDNA, COI and ITS1, respectively. Ticks from Yongjing were the most variable group, followed by Lintan, Huangyuan, and Tianzhu. Based on parallel analysis of the mitochondrial and nuclear genetic diversity of H. qinghaiensis, our results indicated that mitochondrial markers (especially COI) were much more useful than nuclear ITS for intraspecific genetic variability analysis.  相似文献

目的: 观察青海不同海拔高度的果洛(4 100 m)和互助(2 600 m)与平原地区上海(4 m)汉族健康人大循环及微循环特征。方法: 将青海果洛28名年龄(45.62±10.15)岁、青海互助27名年龄(47.25±8.43)岁、上海20名年龄(43.12±8.28)岁的三地区汉族健康人分为:果洛组(GL)、互助组(HZ)和上海组(SH);抽取静脉血分别行血常规:红细胞(RBC)、血红蛋白(HGB)、红细胞压积(HCT)、血小板(PLT)的检测;凝血功能:凝血酶原时间(PT)、国际标准化比值(INR)、纤维蛋白原(Fib)、部分凝血活酶(APTT)、凝血酶时间(TT)的检测,应用连续无创血流动力学监测仪(CNAP)连续测定连续心排量(CO)、每搏输出量(SV)、平均动脉压(MAP)、心率(HR)、脉压差变异率(PPV)、血管外周阻力指数(SVRI),应用脉氧监测仪测得指脉氧(SPO2),用旁流暗视野成像(SDF)监测技术观察舌下微循环指标:总血管密度(TVD)、灌注血管密度(PVD)、灌注血管比例(PPV)、微血管流动指数(MFI)。结果: 与上海组比较,互助组和果洛组的RBC、HGB明显升高(P<0.05),而PLT明显降低(P<0.05);互助组的PT、Fib、APTT、TT、CO、HR、SV、MAP、SPO2均明显降低(P<0.05),而TVD、PVD、PPV、MFI均明显升高(P<0.05);果洛组的HCT、 Fib、CO、SV、PPV、MAP、TVD、PVD均明显升高(P<0.05),而PT、INR、TT、SPO2均明显降低(P< 0.05)。与互助组比较,果洛在组的RBC、HGB、HCT、 Fib、APTT均明显升高(P<0.05);而SPO2、TVD、PVD、INR、TT均明显降低(P<0.05)。结论: 不同海拔地区的健康人微循环具有较明显的差异,高海拔地区健康人群微循环密度较平原地区明显增加,特别是在中度海拔地区更为明显,其特殊的生理意义,对救治高原地区感染性休克及慢性高原病有指导意义。  相似文献

Biofuel plants such as Jatropha curcas L. have potential to support the livelihoods of rural communities and contribute to sustainable rural development in Africa, if risks and uncertainties are minimized. Yet, recent papers have warned of the risk of biological invasions in such tropical regions as a consequence of the introduction of exotic biofuel crops. We investigated the seed dispersal risk and invasiveness potential of both J. curcas monoculture plantations and live fences into adjacent cultivated and uncultivated land use systems in Sissili province, Burkina Faso. Invasiveness potential was assessed through (i) detecting evidence of natural regeneration in perimeters around J. curcas plantations and live fences, (ii) assessing seed dispersal mechanisms, and (iii) assessing seedling establishment potential through in situ direct seed sowing. Spontaneous regeneration around the plantation perimeters of the three sites was very low. Individual seedling density around J. curcas live fences was less than 0.01 m?2 in all sites. Seventy percent of the seedlings were found close to the live fence and most of them derived from the same year (96 %), which indicates low seed-bank longevity and seedling survival. J. curcas can be dispersed by small mammals and arthropods, particularly rodents and ants. In some sites, such as in Onliassan, high secondary seed dispersal by animals (up to 98 %) was recorded. There were highly significant differences in germination rates between seeds at the soil surface (11 %) and those buried artificially at 1–2-cm depth (64 %). In conclusion, we failed to find convincing evidence of the spreading of J. curcas or any significant impact on the surrounding environment.  相似文献

The genus Chaetoceros is among the most species-rich marine planktonic diatoms. Most Chaetoceros are considered important primary producers in various marine environments, but because of their small size, we know little about their ecology and distribution. Therefore, from 2008 to 2012, we examined the occurrence of C. tenuissimus Meunier, one of the smallest members in the genus, and its infectious viruses in western Japanese coastal waters. Using real-time quantitative PCR, we found that C. tenuissimus was widely detected throughout our study sites, with a maximum concentration of 2.4 × 107 cells/l in May 2012. Sediment analysis revealed that C. tenuissimus resting-stage cells were present at potentially high levels, despite its infectious viruses being detected in the same region. The present study suggests that C. tenuissimus remains highly productive even when surrounded by its infectious viruses. This tolerance to viral infection, along with the diatom’s fast growth rate, suggests that C. tenuissimus might play an important role in maintaining the growth of important filter feeders.  相似文献

Breeding new interspecific banana hybrid varieties relies on the use of Musa acuminata and M. balbisiana parents. Unfortunately, infectious alleles of endogenous Banana streak virus (eBSV) sequences are present in the genome of Musa balbisiana genitors. Upon activation by biotic and abiotic stresses, these infectious eBSVs lead to spontaneous infections by several species of Banana streak virus in interspecific hybrids harboring both Musa acuminata and M. balbisiana genomes. Here we provide evidence that seedy M. balbisiana diploids display diverse eBSV allelic combinations and that some eBSVs differ structurally from those previously reported. We also show that segregation of infectious and non-infectious eBSV alleles can be achieved in seedy M. balbisiana diploids through self-pollination or chromosome doubling of haploid lines. We report on the successful breeding of M. balbisiana diploid genitors devoid of all infectious eBSV alleles following self-pollination and on the potential of breeding additional M. balbisiana diploid genitors free of infectious eBSVs by crossing parents displaying complementary eBSV patterns. Our work paves the way to the safe use of M. balbisiana genitors for breeding banana interspecific hybrid varieties with no risk of activation of infectious eBSVs.  相似文献

The model of fixed set (for Uznadze’s paradigm) was used to estimate the functional activity of the cortico-thalamic system of selective attention and cortico-hyppocampal system of emotional and volitional activity in second-year medical students with learning difficulties (n = 20). The control group (n = 30) consisted of successfully studying students of the same year. We observed a significant reduction of induced reactions of neocortical EEG α oscillations in response to the facial stimuli or conditioning Go/NoGo signals in underperforming students. This indicates a decrease in the functional activity of the corticothalamic system of selective attention, i.e., weakening of the top–down cognitive control. This disorder is the psychophysiological basis of cognitive difficulties in the learning process. The amplitude of θ-range cortical potentials in underperforming students is significantly higher than that in the control group, i.e., the level of functional activity of the cortico-hippocampal system is higher, which indicates a higher level of stress. These findings make it possible to conclude that psychophysiological laboratory studies should be used as a supporting tool for high school teachers and psychologists during their work with students with learning difficulties.  相似文献

Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a hereditary autoinflammatory disorder caused by mutations in the MEFV gene. The disease is especially common among Armenian, Turkish, Jewish and Middle East Arab populations. To identify the frequency and the spectrum of common MEFV mutations in different Iranian populations, we investigated a cohort of 208 unselected asymptomatic individuals and 743 FMF patients. Nine hundred and fifty-one samples were analysed for the presence of 12 MEFV mutations by PCR and reverse-hybridization (FMF StripAssay, ViennaLab, Vienna, Austria). Confirmatory dideoxy sequencing of all MEFV gene exons was performed for 39 patients. Fifty-seven (27.4%) healthy individual carried mutant MEFV alleles. Three hundred and ninety-one (52.6%) FMF patients were found positive for either one (172/743; 23.1%), two or three MEFV mutations. Using dideoxy sequencing, three novel variants, A66P, R202W and H300Q, could be identified. Our analysis revealed an allele frequency and carrier rate of 15.6 and 27.4%, respectively, among healthy Iranians. Still moderate compared to neighbouring Armenia, but higher than in Turkey or Iraq, these data suggest that FMF is remarkably common among Iranian populations. E148Q was most frequent in the group of healthy individuals, whereas M694V was the most common mutation among FMF patients, thereby corroborating previous studies on MEFV mutational spectra in the Middle East. Accordingly, MEFV mutations are frequent in healthy Iranian individuals across different ethnic groups. Based on this finding, the awareness for FMF and the implementation of augmented carrier screening programmes considering the multiethnic nature of the Iranian population should be promoted.  相似文献

Objective

Allergic conjunctivitis (AC) is a common condition, especially in childhood. The extent to which it occurs concurrently with or independently from allergic rhinitis (AR) has not been well described.

Aim

To examine the inter-relationship between rhinitis and conjunctivitis and the epidemiological risk factors for these conditions in a rural UK population.

Methods

Cross-sectional study of rural school children (aged 5–11 years). Parental questionnaires were used to diagnose allergic outcomes (including conjunctivitis, rhinitis and rhinoconjunctivitis), and to collect data on atopic history, demographic and environmental exposures. Odds ratios of allergic outcome by exposure were examined adjusted for age, sex, breastfeeding, family history of allergy, number of older and younger siblings.

Results

Prevalence of conjunctivitis was 17.5%, rhinitis 15.1% and rhinoconjunctivitis 13.0%. Seasonality of symptoms varied by condition: 64.7% of those with conjunctivitis had seasonal symptoms (April-Sept only), 46.7% of those with rhinitis and 92.2% of those with rhinoconjunctivitis. Living on a farm consistently reduced the risk of conjunctivitis (odds ratio 0.47, 95%CI 0.29–0.79, p = 0.004), rhinitis (OR 0.57, 95%CI 0.33–1.01, p = 0.05) and rhinoconjunctivitis (OR 0.57, 95%CI 0.32–1.03, p = 0.06). Exposure to farm animals (particularly in early life), current consumption of unpasteurised milk and playing in a barn or stable significantly reduced the risk of all three conditions.

Conclusion

More children had parent-reported conjunctivitis than rhinitis. The majority of children with either condition also reported symptoms with the other condition. Farmers’ children have less eye and/or nasal symptoms. A number of farming variables linked with the farm microbial environment are likely to be mediating the protective effect.  相似文献

We studied neurophysiological characteristics of the age-related development in junior school students (7–8 and 10–11 years of age) living in the Arctic region of the Russian Federation. The background electroencephalograms (EEGs) were recorded during quiet wakefulness with the eyes closed and open, and event related potentials (ERP) were recorded during the passive perception of sound stimuli within the oddball paradigm in the group of children (33 subjects, 18 boys and 15 girls). A decrease of the latency period and the spatial rearrangement of mismatch negativity with an increase in the amplitude in the centrofrontal cortex have been revealed in the groups of children aged 10–11 years during the perception of a rare stimulus and a decrease of the latency period of the Р300 component in the central and parietal areas associated with the maturation of mechanisms for involuntary auditory attention. Age-specific differences in the components of auditory ERP (N1 and N2) have been shown during passive perception of rare and frequent sounds, which reflect the processes of the morphofunctional maturation of the brain cortex in healthy Arctic school students (an increase of the N1 component amplitude, a decrese of the amplitude and the latency period of the N2 component). The analysis of the background EEG characteristics has shown both the common features, such as a decrease with age of the EEG power in the Δ and θ bands in the eyes-open state, and the different direction and topographic specificities in the age-dependent reorganization of bioelectrical activity in boys and girls in the α1 and α2 EEG bands.  相似文献

We performed a randomized double-blind controlled trial to compare the efficacy and safety of multistrain probiotic and acyclovir in women patients with recurrent genital herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infections. Eighty-one patients enrolled in the study were being treated with multistrain Lactobacillus brevis one vaginal capsule every 12 h and oral acyclovir 400 mg twice daily for 6 months. Of 53 patients who completed both treatment courses, no important differences were identified between acyclovir and probiotic for the primary and secondary efficacy endpoint, resolution of episode (hazard ratio, 0.60; 95% CI, 0.3429 to 1.0663; P = 0.08), lesion healing time (hazard ratio, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.3034 to 1.0717, P = 0.08), viral shedding (hazard ratio, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.3027 to 0.9750, P = 0.04), and percentage of pain (hazard ratio, 0.48; 95% CI, 0.2708 to 0.8545, P = 0.01). The median time to first and second recurrence after treatment were 43 and 121 days in patients receiving acyclovir and 33 and 118 days in patients receiving probiotic (HR 2.61; 95% CI, 1.4427 to 4.7546, P = 0.001, and HR 0.62; 95% CI, 0.3500 to 1.1133, P = 0.1, respectively). No clinically important effects happened during the probiotic treatment but some of adverse events reported in patients taking acyclovir. Easy availability, low cost, and no side effect of L. brevis are valuable properties of probiotic therapy compared with acyclovir. Therefore, we concluded that multistrain L. brevis could play an important role in suppression of recurrent genital herpes simplex virus infection.  相似文献

Rice blast is one of the most destructive diseases of rice. The most effective way of managing this disease is to develop resistant cultivars by introducing resistance genes into elite rice recipients. In this study, the near-isogenic lines (NILs) of six resistance alleles of the Piz locus (Pizt, Pi2, Pigm, Pi40, Pi9 and Piz) were constructed with Yangdao 6 as genetic background. Seedling inoculation tests showed that most of the NILs, namely NIL-Pi2, NIL-Pigm, NIL-Pi9, NIL-Pizt and NIL-Pi40, exhibited good resistance to blast with resistance frequencies (RFs) of over 82.50 %, execpt NIL-Piz which showed lower resistance with a RF of only 36.13 %. Furthermore, the improved-resistance NILs exhibited high similarity of their resistance spectra, with overlapping degrees of resistance spectrum (OD) of more than 75.83 %. However, the RF of panicle blast for all NILs decreased significantly compared with seedling blast in an artificial inoculation test. Although NIL-Pigm showed a higher panicle blast RF of 80 %, other NILs with outstanding performance in seedling blast resistance, namely NIL-Pizt, NIL-Pi2, NIL-Pi9 and NIL-Pi40, exhibited middle or low RFs of panicle blast with values from 56.67 to 33.30 %. Natural induction in a disease nursery showed a consistent trend in artificial inoculation results at seedling and heading stages. While NIL-Pigm was found to exhibit good resistance to leaf blast and panicle blast, NIL-Pi9 and NIL-Pizt were further demonstrated to show excellent resistance in Suichuan, Jiangxi province and Enshi, Hubei province, respectively, because of the race–region specificity. Agronomic traits of NILs were also investigated in order to evaluate the linkage drag effect of different alleles of the Piz locus. The resistance effects of the different alleles of the Piz locus under identical genetic background against seedling blast and panicle blast was first reported in this study, and the above results are expected to provide a theoretical support for the rational utilization of broad-spectrum resistance genes in breeding practice.  相似文献

目的:探讨青海省大学生吸烟现状及其影响因素分析。方法:选择青海省综合性大学学生1106 例作为调查对象,采用分层 整群随机抽样的调查方法,对入选者使用自制问卷进行调查。结果:不同性别、不同专业、不同年级及父母是否抽烟的学生吸烟率 比较,差异具有统计学意义(P<0.05)。对影响大学生吸烟行为的相关影响因素进行单因素分析发现,性别、周围朋友吸烟、父母不 反对以及抑郁或伤心是造成大学生吸烟的相关危险因素(P<0.05)。对以上相关危险因素进行多因素回归分析发现,四者均是造 成大学生吸烟的独立危险因素(P<0.05)。结论:性别、父母态度、周围朋友吸烟状况及自身抑郁心理是造成青海省大学生吸烟行 为的主要危险因素,高校应针对不同大学生的自身现状制定相应的控烟措施,减少大学生吸烟率。  相似文献

Background

The lowering of the age of onset and chronicity have been key problems related to eating disorders (EDs). As the proportion of teens in the estimated onset ages has increased, it has become important to detect students with EDs and to clarify how they can be supported. Though epidemiological surveys of Yogo teachers (school nurse/health science teachers) have been conducted to inquire about the number of such students, none of these were done according to ED type based on DSM-5. Thus, we conducted a wide area survey in Japan with the goal of proposing a better framework of support for Yogo teachers in their efforts to care for students with EDs.

Methods

A questionnaire survey organized by ED type (based on DSM-5) was administered to Yogo teachers working at elementary/junior high/senior high/special needs schools in four prefectures of Japan in 2015, and 1,886 responses were obtained. Based on the results, the encounter rates (the proportion of Yogo teachers who had encountered a student with an ED) were calculated, and factors that could affect the rates were examined by logistic regression analysis.

Results

The order of the encounter rates of the ED types was as follows: Anorexia Nervosa (AN)?>?Bulimia Nervosa (BN)?>?Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)?>?Binge Eating Disorder (BED)?>?Others. The factors significantly affecting the rates were “location, school type, number of students, experience years, and AN knowledge” for AN, “school type, experience years, and BN knowledge” for BN, “school type, experience years, and BED knowledge” for BED, “location, experience years, and ARFID knowledge” for ARFID, and “school type, experience years, and Others knowledge” for Others.

Conclusions

Because the encounter rate of AN was the highest, providing support for AN would be the most effective. Moreover, one factor that affected the encounter rate of all ED types was ED knowledge. In addition to this, senior high schools had the highest encounter rates for AN, BN and BED, and special needs schools had the highest rates for Others. These findings imply that, in order to detect and support ED students at an early stage, it is necessary to offer knowledge of the most prevalent ED types to Yogo teachers at the corresponding school type.

To improve baseline data for the developing truffle industry in British Columbia, we compiled existing Tuber species sequences from published and unpublished studies and generated new ITS sequences for truffles belonging to Tuber collected in the province. In doing so, we obtained evidence that 13 species of Tuber occur in the province, including six introduced and seven native species, two of which are putative undescribed species. Of the native species, the Tuber anniae species complex is widely distributed in the province while Tuber beyerlei appears to be much more restricted in distribution. Four of the introduced species have commercial value (Tuber melanosporum, Tuber aestivum, Tuber brumale, and Tuber borchii) as do two of the native species (Tuber gibbosum and Tuber oregonense). Focused sampling on likely tree hosts, both hardwood and Pinaceae species, as well as in currently unexplored parts of the province seems likely to expand our knowledge of the diversity and distribution of Tuber species in British Columbia.  相似文献

Background

Epidemic models are being extensively used to understand the main pathways of spread of infectious diseases, and thus to assess control methods. Schools are well known to represent hot spots for epidemic spread; hence, understanding typical patterns of infection transmission within schools is crucial for designing adequate control strategies. The attention that was given to the 2009 A/H1N1pdm09 flu pandemic has made it possible to collect detailed data on the occurrence of influenza-like illness (ILI) symptoms in two primary schools of Trento, Italy.

Results

The data collected in the two schools were used to calibrate a discrete-time SIR model, which was designed to estimate the probabilities of influenza transmission within the classes, grades and schools using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. We found that the virus was mainly transmitted within class, with lower levels of transmission between students in the same grade and even lower, though not significantly so, among different grades within the schools. We estimated median values of R 0 from the epidemic curves in the two schools of 1.16 and 1.40; on the other hand, we estimated the average number of students infected by the first school case to be 0.85 and 1.09 in the two schools.

Conclusions

The discrepancy between the values of R 0 estimated from the epidemic curve or from the within-school transmission probabilities suggests that household and community transmission played an important role in sustaining the school epidemics. The high probability of infection between students in the same class confirms that targeting within-class transmission is key to controlling the spread of influenza in school settings and, as a consequence, in the general population.
