A case of abdominal dioctophymosis in a domestic cat was found in San Juan Bautista district, the Peruvian rainforest, in the Loreto department of Peru. The pet went to a veterinary clinic for a routine ovariohysterectomy during which a large nematode was found in the abdominal cavity. The nematode was morphologically identified as an adult female of Dioctophyme sp. A few morphological parameters, such as the vagina distance from the anterior part and the egg size, were different than D. renale. Partial sequences of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox1) and the small subunit 18S ribosomal RNA genes were compared with the references from public sequence database and showed a genetic identifies of 89.25% and 99.65% with D. renale, respectively. This is the first mitochondrial molecular analysis of a Dioctophyme specimen from South America and the results showed up to 12.5% nucleotide sequence variation in cox 1 gene of D. renale.  相似文献

We collected 24 brown rats, Rattus norvegicus, in Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan and found one rat harboring a dioctophymatid nematode. A single male and a female worm were recovered from the abdominal cavity and were identified as Dioctophyme renale based on morphologic features and a BLAST DNA sequence analysis. We describe the morphological features of the adult worms and eggs from this extremely rare case of D. renale infection in a brown rat.  相似文献

Some properties of the pili of the gram-positive bacteria Corynebacterium renale were described. A relationship was found between the morphological features of pili and the types of C. renale. Strains of types I and III usually possessed a small number of pili, whereas those of type II possessed numerous pili. Thick and long bundles of pili characteristic of C. renale were frequently observable in type II strains. Piliation of C. renale was stable under various cultural conditions. No ability to agglutinate red blood cells was demonstrated by piliated strains of C. renale. Pili were isolated from the cells of C. renale and studied serologically by immunodiffusion. The pili of a type II strain were serologically identical with the pili of another type II strain but not with those of the strains belonging to types I and III. The pili were serologically distinct from the cell wall. The pili were broken into short pieces by boiling, but their antigenicity was increased after boiling.  相似文献

A case of acute intestinal anisakiasis has been reported; a nematode larva being found in the submucosa of the ileum of a woman in Jaén (Spain). The source of infection was the ingestion of raw Engraulis encrasicholus. On the basis of its morphology, the worm has been identified as a fourth-stage larva of Anisakis simplex. In Spain, this is the ninth report of human anisakiasis and also probably the first case of anisakiasis caused by a fourth-stage larva of A. simplex.  相似文献

Mice concurrently infected with the rodent piroplasms Babesia hylomysci or B. microti during a primary infection with the nematode Trichuris muris showed marked immunodepression, and the normal immune expulsion of the nematode was delayed. Immunodepression was most severe when the Babesia infections reached peak parasitaemia during the preexpulsion phase of the worm infection. Decline in parasitaemia to subpatent levels was associated with a reappearance of the immune response and expulsion of the worm. Babesia infections had little effect upon the expulsion of challenge infections of T. muris from mice previously immunized against the worm. Acute Babesia infections were found to exert a profound immunodepressive effect upon the agglutinating antibody response of mice to sheep red blood cells.  相似文献

To resolve the taxonomic relationship between two types of parasitic nematode larvae (Type I and II) and two species of parasitic nematode adults (Anisakis simplex and A. physeteris) of the aquatic ascarid genus Anisakis, collected in Japanese coastal water, a comparison was made of their hemoglobins' physicochemical properties. The larval hemoglobins were more similar to each other in electrophoretic pattern than to either adult, indeed there were few similarities whatsoever in these patterns of larval and adult hemoglobins. However, isoelectric points were 6.2 for the Type I larva and for A. simplex and 5.4 for the Type II larva and for A. physeteris. All samples showed identical patterns in spectrophotometric scanning. The circular dichroic spectra of the samples were also virtually identical, although slight differences were noted in the oxygenated hemoglobins; the Type II larva and A. physeteris exhibited a small positive peak at 575 nm but the Type I larva and A. simplex exhibited a much smaller peak (negative position). The sedimentation coefficients of the samples possessed essentially identical values (11.2–12.4). The molecular weights of the samples were estimated, roughly, to be in the range 33 to 43 × 104 by thin-layer chromatography on Sephadex G-200. The evidence suggests that a relationship may exist between the Type I larva and A. simplex, and between the Type II larva and A. physeteris.  相似文献

Several species of palaeoscolecidan worm have been found in the Tonggao Formation (earliest Floian) of Guizhou Province, China. Two new palaeoscolecidan taxa are described (Sanduscolex regularis n. gen. n. sp. and Ashetscolex nuppus n. gen. n. sp.); another palaeoscolecidan (Wronascolex sp.) is left in open nomenclature. This is the youngest known occurrence of Wronascolex. A possible large free-living nematode is described and illustrated, representing the earliest known nematode in the fossil record, and a rare example from a marine setting.  相似文献

Human Gnathostoma hispidum infection is extremely rare in the world literature and has never been reported in the Republic of Korea. A 74-year-old Korean man who returned from China complained of an erythematous papule on his back and admitted to our hospital. Surgical extraction of the lesion and histopathological examination revealed sections of a nematode larva in the deep dermis. The sectioned larva had 1 nucleus in each intestinal cell and was identified as G. hispidum. The patient recalled having eaten freshwater fish when he lived in China. We designated our patient as an imported G. hispidum case from China.  相似文献

The nematode Heterorhabditis bacteriophora serves as a vector enabling its bacterial associate to reach the hemocoel of its host, the seventh-instar larva of Galleria mellonella. Early stages (neonate to 7- or 8-day-old larvae) of Spodoptera exigua and Pseudaletia unipuncta were exposed to the entomogenous nematode, Steinernema feltiae, at concentrations of 0, 10, 25, 60, 100, or 200 nematodes per larva. Larvae of both species were susceptible to nematode infections. However, neonate larvae of S. exigua were significantly less susceptible to nematode infection than 3- or 8-day-old larvae at or above 50 nematodes per larva. Mortalities of neonate larvae exposed to 50 or more nematodes ranged from 68 to 74% while mortalities of 3- and 8-day-old larvae ranged from 91 to 100%. The results with P. unipuncta showed similar trends as described for S. exigua, albeit at a lower mortality level and usually with no statistical differences. Mortalities of neonate larvae exposed to 50 or more nematodes ranged from 34 to 44% while mortalities of 7-day-old larvae ranged from 32 to 91%.  相似文献

Calcineurin, a well-conserved protein phosphatase 2B (PP2B), is a Ca2+-calmodulin–dependent serine/threonine protein phosphatase that is known to be involved in a myriad of cellular processes and signal transduction pathways. The biological role of calcineurin has been extensively studied in diverse groups of organisms. Homologues of mammalian and Drosophila calcineurin subunits exist in the nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans. The C. elegans counterpart of the catalytic subunit, calcineurin A, cna-1/tax-6, and the regulatory subunit, calcineurin B, cnb-1, are known to express ubiquitously in multiple tissues including neurons. The characterization of C. elegans calcineurin mutants facilitates identification of its physiological functions and signaling pathways. Genetic interactions between cna-1/tax-6 and cnb-1 mutants with a number of mutants involved in several signaling pathways have exemplified the pivotal role of calcineurin in regulating nematode development, behaviour and lifespan (aging). The present review has been aimed to provide a succinct summary of the multiple functions of calcineurin in C. elegans relating to its development, fertility, proliferation, behaviour and lifespan. Analyses of cna-1/tax-6 and cnb-1 interacting proteins and regulators of the phosphatase in this fascinating worm model have an immense scope to identify potential drug targets in various parasitic nematodes, which cause many diseases inflicting huge economic loss; and also for many human diseases, particularly neurodegenerative and myocardial diseases.  相似文献

A case of Pseudoterranova decipiens infection was found in a 43-year-old man by gastroendoscopic examination on August 20, 1996. On August 6, 1996, he visited a local clinic, complaining of epigastric pain two days after eating raw marine fishes. Although the symptoms were relieved soon, endoscopic examination was done for differential diagnosis. A white, live nematode larva was removed from the fundus of the stomach. The larva was 38.3 x 1.0 mm in size and had a cecum reaching to the mid-level of the ventriculus. A lot of transverse striations were regularly arranged on the cuticle of its body surface, but the boring tooth and mucron were not observed at both ends of the worm. The worm was identified as the 4th stage larva of P. decipiens.  相似文献

A 23-year-old female residing in a village of Cao Bang Province, North Vietnam, visited the Hospital of Hanoi Medical University in July 2013. She felt dim eyes and a bulge-sticking pain in her left eye for some days before visiting the hospital. In the hospital, a clinical examination, an eye endoscopy, and an operation were carried out. A nematode specimen was collected from the eye of this patient. The body of this worm was thin and long and measured 22.0×0.3 mm. It was morphologically suggested as an immature female worm of Angiostrongylus cantonensis. By a molecular method using 18S rRNA gene, this nematode was confirmed as A. cantonensis. This is the first molecular study for identification of A. cantonensis in Vietnam.  相似文献

Autochthonous human gnathostomiasis had never been reported in the Republic of Korea. We report here a case of Gnathostoma spinigerum infection in a 32-year-old Korean woman, presumed to have been infected via an indigenous route. The patient had experienced a painful migratory swelling near the left nasolabial fold area of the face for a year, with movement of the swelling to the mucosal area of the upper lip 2 weeks before surgical removal of the lesion. Histopathological examinations of the extracted tissue revealed inflammation with heavy eosinophilic infiltrations and sections of a nematode suggestive of a Gnathostoma sp. larva. The larva characteristically revealed about 25 intestinal cells with multiple (3-6) nuclei in each intestinal cell consistent with the 3rd-stage larva of G. spinigerum. The patient did not have any special history of travel abroad except a recent trip, 4 months before surgery, to China where she ate only cooked food. The patient is the first recorded autochthonous case of G. spinigerum infection in Korea.  相似文献

Pathogenicity of Rhabditis blumi Sudhaus against major cruciferous insect pests was evaluated in the lab and greenhouse. In Petri-dish tests against the insects, including Artogeia rapae L., Mamestra brassicae L., and Plutella xylostella L., insect mortality by R. blumi and its associated bacteria was dose and time dependent, which increased with dose (0?C80 dauer juveniles/larva) and time increments. Pathogenicity against fourth-instar larvae was higher than the rate of corresponding third-instar larvae. The highest insect mortality rate was observed in fourth-instar larvae of P. xylostella, followed by A. rapae, and M. brassicae, with mortality rates of 93.5, 88.2, and 77.8?%, respectively. Lethal dose values at 50?% (LD50) of R. blumi were 25.7 dauer juveniles/larva on P. xylostella; 28.0 dauer juveniles/larva on A. rapae; and 40.6 dauer juveniles/larva on M. brassicae, respectively. In greenhouse tests, P. xylostella larvae were most susceptible to nematodes, with insect reduction rate of 88.0?%. The rate varied with vegetable species and persistence time of live nematodes on vegetable leaves after spraying. Nematodes established in cadavers showed positive correlation with nematode dose, whereas nematode persistence on the leaf was inversely related to hours after treatment.  相似文献

We report a case of preputial myiasis in a child who presented with painful penile swelling suggestive of balanoposthitis. Treatment consisted of manual extraction of the worm followed by circumcision. Parasitologic study of the worm revealed a stage-three larva of Cordylobia anthropophaga. Through this case report and a review of the literature, we discuss the epidemiologic, diagnostic and therapeutic features of this disease.  相似文献

The rate of uptake of 3H2O increases in Phocanema decipiens between 8 and 13 h after it has been activated by exposure to 37°C in 0.9% Nacl containing juvenile hormone (0.4 μl/ml), while worms incubated in the absence of the hormone show no such increase. The exchange volume of an activated worm is greater than that of an unstimulated worm, but direct measurement by dry weight determination shows that both stimulated and unstimulated worms have a similar water content. The uptake of 3HO into the excretory cell is more rapid in stimulated worms, although there is no increase in uptake into the pseudoceolomic fluid. Moreover, there is an increase in water content of the excretory cell in activated worms. These observations are best explained by postulating that in an unactivated worm two compartments exist and in only one of these is water freely available for exchange. In an activated worm, the water in both compartments is available for exchange.  相似文献

A female dioctophymatid nematode larva, presumably belonging to the genus Dioctophyme, was found in a dermal granuloma accompanied by creeping eruption in the left inner thigh of a 26-yr-old Chinese woman who had stayed in Japan for 4 yr. Morphology of the sectioned worm is described in detail. This is the fourth case of dermal infection with dioctophymatid larva in humans.  相似文献

We develop a model of the undulatory locomotion of nematodes, in particular that of Caenorhabditis elegans, based on mechanics. The model takes into account the most important forces acting on a moving worm and allows the computer simulation of a creeping nematode. These forces are produced by the interior pressure in the liquid-filled body cavity, the elasticity of the cuticle, the excitation of certain sets of muscles and the friction between the body and its support.

We propose that muscle excitation patterns can be generated by stretch receptor control. By solving numerically the equations of motion of the model of the nematode, we demonstrate that these muscle excitation patterns are suitable for the propulsion of the animal.
